Silver or Gold

by Iteach

This day in history gold was discovered in the Yukon. While salmon fishing near the Klondike River in Canada's Yukon Territory on this day in 1896, George Carmack reportedly spots nuggets of gold in a creek bed. His lucky discovery sparks the last great gold rush in the American West.

When I saw this it reminded me of a dilemma that I'm having right now.  I'm looking to buy a Mother's Ring, but I don't know if I should have the band be in silver, gold,etc.....  I don't have a preference.  So now here is a dumb question.  Should all the ring bands on your fingers be the same?  Can you have one be gold and the other white gold or is that a big no-no?  What kind of rings do you like on your fingers?  Also, what should I do with my wedding ring?

Good morning ladies!!

well this just happens to be one of my areas of expertise....

One ring per ensemble. Now if you want to wear 3 rings its ok as long as you are wearing 3 ensembles. I mean...one or the other is going to you look strange...

A Mexican lady I know wears a ring on every finger...she thinks it looks good and I think its like a badge of wealth or something. But all the rings are relatively inexpensive little clusters of diamonettes when put together with many clusters of diamonettes looks like a lot....of diamonettes...

but I see peoples faces when they ask to see her rings....it a confused bewildered look....lol

One person asked her one day if they were for sale.... :o

As refined ladies I know you will want to follow the "one ring" rule...

Plan A: As for what to do with your wedding set....well it depends....if its one of those pitiful little dinky things that you need a magnifying glass to find the diamond chip and while looking you see 10-15-20 years of mashed potatoes and boogers and baby poop....you may just toss it into the trash.

Plan B: If its a little better than that you can have it melted down and made into ...say...a button or a tooth!

I knew a girl who had hers melted down and the diamond got melted down too!! She said the jeweler didn't realize it had a diamond in it!! Now this would have been a good opportunity to have followed "plan A"....

Plan C: Lets say that wedding set is platinum and has a diamond of a carat or more...and depending on the quality of the stone...you might consider having it set as a pendant to wear around your neck...provided of course that you have a neck...

For example...Tina could utilize plan A or B....

And again...a gracious good morning and so glad to be of help!

Mr. Michael, I always enjoy your help. Now option C is something to ponder....I had not thought of making it into a pendant.

Good Morning Tina, Lynn, Iteach and Michael. Sorry I have been MIA. I honestly have been so busy with Tia I didn't have time to read the blogs. I will get to eventually however.

Michael - I feel so bad that I missed your birthday. Happy belated birthday wishes. I hope you had a good one.

We went to the Vet yesterday and got the good news that Tia's tumour was benign. I was worried because it took so long to get the results. Apparently it had exploded and was growing fast. That is why it was of great concern to the Vet. Tia still is in misery over it even though it has been ten days. She keeps trying to bite it, (even with a Buster collar on) so she must be watched constantly. Today is the first day I am leaving her with Jack and I am going to try water therapy again.

Iteach - I will give you ring dilemma some thought and will get back to you.

Have a great day everyone. I think I am now going to be late.

Good Morning Hooters!

Iteach, I think you can mix and match any type of ring. My wedding/diamond set is yellow gold. On my right hand I wear a silver ring with small blue sapphires/diamonds. It was a birthday gift from same fellow who bought me the wedding set. I also wear (for casual dress), a silver equality ring on my right index finger.

As for the wedding set- if you have no reason to want to keep it, or do not think that your daughter would want it- then go to a reputable place and sell it! Then buy yourself something nice.

tink~ glad the tumor was benign!
Hope she feels better soon.

Good Morning!

ITEACH: I don't think it matters if you mix gold with silver..or wear white gold with rose gold..as long as you like them..that's all that counts. After all, jewelry is a personal statement..so wear whatever makes you happy! :)

I wear 3 rings everyday..each one means a lot to me..one is from Randy, one from my mom..the other from my dad. I rarely take them off.

btw..the rumor that I also have bells on my toes is false.. ;D

TINA: Gorgeous..as always! :)

TINKA: I'm so glad that TIA is healing and that the tumor was benign!

Waving a wing at MICHAEL, GOLDIE and LYNN!

Have a good day everyone!

iteach Great blog today! You know, here in the Western States, more people are trying their hand at panning for gold because the price has gone way up. Definitely do not throw your wedding ring away! I don't know if it is a simple design or not but maybe a jeweler could change it into a Mother's ring.

Michael I guess that woman doesn't realize that more is just.....more.

Tinka Yay! So glad that Tia's tumor was benign. Her sutures probably bug her because the skin around them starts itching as it heals. I imagine she only has a few days left until she's 100%.

Waving at Zona, Goldie, and LynnD. I hope everyone has a good day. Maybe I'll polish my rings.....jk.

By the way, in the circles I travel in, no one would care if I mixed and matched yellow gold with white gold.

ITEACH - My wedding set is yellow gold, but in the last 15+ years I have grown more fond of silver jewelry. So the ring stays *until our 25th wedding anniversary, at which time I want everything reset in platinum*!!!

I agree with SLIN - make your wedding set into your Mother's ring!! Or with GOLDIE - and the proceeds of the ring into your Mother's ring!!

MICHAEL - I do agree with your assessment of the "ring lady"!! I however usually wear 3!! My wedding set, a plain silver band on my left index finger, and another simple silver ring on my right ring finger. And being that it's summer...bring on the toe rings & ankle bracelets!!

TINA - Moaning again I see ;P

LYNN - Thank you!!

TINKA - Congrats on the great news ♥

ZONA - I used to wear Mom's ring everyday, but have it put away for Sam.

Naptime!! Just got back from school registration and taking the boys to football. Can't wait for my date with a hot blonde....wheeeeeeee!!!

Jodi....you may want to rethink that platinum thing....seriously.... white 18k gold is prettier and retains it beauty much better than platinum...

Platinum is used in mounting precious stones because of its strength. Many people think that platinum is the "best" because of price and the fact that it is less common....I know I thought that until it was explained to me...

What are your chirrens birthstones please?

Anonymous said...

I'd also like to see the hand you plan to wear a Mothers ring on...

I'd like to give you some ideas if you don't mind...affordable and fabulous...

Just take a picture of your hand with fingers spread and tell me the birthstones....

and no flipping me off in the picture TYVM!

MICHAEL - I had never thought of that. Thank you!! All I knew is that I wanted a white metal!

I wear a ring on my left finger that my husband gave me. He bought it at a police auction (after having it appraised....he was the lieutenant in charge of the auction of unclaimed recovered stolen merchandise). Anywho, it has a lot of diamonds on it, would have been made in Europe, probably in the early 1930's. It is a platinum setting. When we had the shank re-done, we did it in white gold.

Had the second part of my root canal done today. The numbness is taking a long time to go away. Guess it's soup for dinner.

Jennifer, I have a friend who made a pendant out of her wedding set and it turned out really nice. She had her birthstone paired with the diamonds and it means a lot more to her now.

My husband died only six months after he gave me a new wedding band with five .20 diamonds for my 50th birthday. I didn't want to store it in my jewelry box, so I had it and my engagement ring resized for my right hand and I wear them all the time. On my left hand I wear a black hills gold ring that my youngest son gave me one year for Mother's day, plus a sterling silver key ring that is very special to me. So I have mixed up all the metals and I like it just fine. I think you can do whatever you like.
