Tens of thousands of people gathered at the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah for the annual Festival of Colors.
The Festival of Colors, also known as Holi, is a festival celebrated every spring by Hindus. As part of the celebration, participants traditionally throw scented powder and perfume at each other. The festival has roots to many Hindu legends, most celebrating the victory of good over evil.
“The colors come from the emergence of spring after the stark bleakness of winter. Everything bursts forth in colors and fragrance and so that’s emulated through the festival,” said Charu Das, the founder of the Lotus Temple.
My twins went to the Festival of Colors. My daughter came home and announced that she wants to become Hindu!

thats wonderful!! I have been to Hare Krishna festivities before and they know how to have fun.
Hindu folks are vegan and I would love to have a vegan cook....
I find this much more interesting than Christianity. Hindus actually follow the principles of their faith...
Hindu views of homosexuality and.. in general..LGBT(lesbian..gay..bisexual..and transgender) issues..are diverse. Homosexuality is regarded as one of the possible expressions of human desire and Hindu mythic stories have portrayed homosexual experience as natural and joyful.
The Hindu's don't practice hate and judgement...or division...
So...YAY!! for them on all fronts...

Well Tina... you raised 3 free thinking Catholics (and who knew that was even possible) so you did good!
Your oldest has chosen his path...Miss Twin has stumbled unto Hinduism...and who can imagine what Mr. Twin will discover!!
And you'll get to experience all these things through your children and then your grandchildren's choices....
By the time you are 80 you are going to be so open minded and sophisticated!!
And bravo for letting your children really express themselves freely!!

MICHAEL: You're right..TINA did do good! My mom raised us to be open minded..she went to Catholic schools..and loved the Church..but sometimes she didn't always agree..I'm glad she taught us the way she did.
This video just made me smile today..I think tho..if I ever went to the Festival of Colors..I'd need to bring my inhaler! It would be cool to go though! :)

Michael I think you are speaking in very broad generalities there when you say that ALL Hindus follow the principles of their faith. Aren't the vast majority of religions based on admirable qualities? I think the ten commandments pretty much covers everything and is seen in some form in all the great religions. It's our ability as humans to really follow those rules that is the problem.

They had food and music. Like a Krishna rock band. Huge tents. It was fun and interesting.
Venice is one of the best people watching places in the world so the festival was an added treat!

Hinduism doesn't condemn people...such as gays...for what they are...
And although Jesus never uttered a word about homosexuality...Christians have taken it upon themselves to condemn...
and Hindu's follow four principles and Christians needed 20 (Moses dropped one of the tablets) and still got 10!!
They had to be told not to kill!! And to honor thy Mother and Father! And not to bugger their friends wife and steal her money!!
Four regulative principles...
Srila Prabhupada prescribed four regulative principles, in relation to the four legs of dharma...as the basis of the spiritual life:
No eating of meat (including fish) or eggs (lacto-vegetarianism)
No illicit sex
No gambling
No intoxication (including alcohol, caffeine, tobacco and other recreational drugs).
The four legs of Dharma are:
Daya: Mercy
Tapas: Self-Control or Austerity
Satyam: Truthfulness
Śaucam: Cleanliness of body and mind...
therefore...IMHO...the day they were handing out commandments and principles it wasn't the Hindu's that arrived on the short bus...

On March 27, 1912, First Lady Helen Herron Taft and the Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese ambassador, planted two Yoshino cherry trees on the northern bank of the Potomac River Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. The event celebrated the Japanese government's gift of 3,000 trees to the United States.
