Twins Days

by Maureen

This weekend marks the 36th Twins Days festival in my sleepy little burgh of, where else but, Twinsburg! My little town of less then 19,000 people plays host to thousands of multiples from all over the world to celebrate twin-dom! I am not a gracious host, as I make sure to get the heck out of dodge for the weekend!

In 1976, in celebration of the Bi-Centennial, the first festival was held with a whopping 36 sets of twins. Now, wherever you look you see what you just saw! Twins, triplets, quads and quints! If a face looks familiar it's because you just saw it on someone else!

I enjoy seeing the matching babies and octogenarians and every age in between, but seeing double takes its toll! The traffic is horrendous and the noise is terrible. The festival takes place at the high school which is literally around the corner from my house. My street is blocked off on Saturday morning due to the parade through town. And even when it is finally opened, forget making a left turn out of it and going right takes you right into the midst of it.

So, as a benevolent action on my part, I make the sacrifice and remove myself and 1 more car from the traffic jams!

It really is a great weekend for the multiples, their families and the local economy. I hope the tradition carries on for at least another 36 years and beyond. And I hope I continue to have a place to escape to each of those years!!!

Be sure to Google the festival and see the smiling faces and matching outfits...in stereo!!

Well, it's me at first again. JL get the intervention ready!!!

I always either wanted a twin sister or twin children. Shoot--- I didn't even get a sister. I think it would be fun to go to this festival once and see all those matching faces.

Thanks for the blog, Mo.

Dianne Wow! Pretty soon you will become a closet early bird so we won't know. LOL I hope you aren't up because you didn't sleep well, but rather because you just feel so spunky and energetic nothing can keep you down. :)

I, on the other hand, am just now enjoying my first cup of coffee. I did play with the dog a little bit before sitting down at the computer, though.

MO Thanks for the blog. I think it would be weird to have someone else walking around that looks just like me. Of course, twins don't know any different though. At least they can look at each other and get a sense of what looks good on them and what doesn't. It would be more objective than trying to figure that out in a mirror.

Dianne2 There's something terribly wrong with the world when you and I are the first two in the nest.

I hate twins....they're shits......I told the boy about this and he shuddered at the thought of dressing like his sister and going to Ohio.....sorry Mo ~

Tina LOL I guess the key word at the twin reunion is "identical".

MO: Cool festival! My grandfather was a twin..and my dad's mom's brothers were twins. They would have all loved this..too bad it wasn't around when they were young!

I had friends in California that were twins..and they used to talk to each other in this weird language..weird to me anyway. It turns out they were talking backwards! I guess a lot of twins have their own language that only they understand. Can you imagine walking through the crowd and hearing all of them talking like that..wow..lol..

DI: My mom always wished she had had twins too..she wanted to dress them alike..The one time she made my sister and I the same top we screamed..'I don't want to be HER twin!!'..lol..

J/LIN: There's something wrong when I go to bed at about 9:30p and get up at 8am!! ;)

TINA: I bet if your twins have twins someday you will be thrilled! :D

JL: I was thinking the same thing about Zona. You know how those young chicks are....ahhh, to be young again.

I just received the notice for my 50 year class reunion in 2014. I hope I'm still around then.

Zona: my mom never dressedbruce and I the same. Maybe we can do that sometime now that we are grown up. I'll check with him and get back to you on that idea!!!

JL: I've woke before the alarm every day this week---yikes!!
I guess we will have to do something to occupy our time to stay up later. Btw, where is Barb?

We went to the red lobster tonight with a $10 off coupon. Pretty good deal---and that was my Saturday night.

Dianne Well, I cooked dinner for myself and THAT was my Saturday night. And where is Barb, anyway? Good question.

Barb is at home thinking about morning sex!!!! :)~

LOL Tina, I see you got me email. Did it make you think about it too?

Dianne and J/L, Here I am. I've been busy gossiping about our new priest. No one likes him. He's been here a year and has made so many changes and has plans to make more. We have a LOT of OLD people in our church. They have been parishioners for 50+ years and they apparently don't like changes.

Mo, I have heard of this gathering of twins, etc. and wondered about it. My Hubby has triplets in his family, but I never met them. I thought I wanted twins, until I had my first child and I quickly changed my mind.

Zona, You have a lot of twins in your family. You probably could have had twins. I've heard it skips a generation, but I don't know if that's true.

Di-2 Sorry I forgot to comment on how lovely you look in first today again. Are you still working for your daughter? What are you doing for her?

sacBarb said...

Tina, I didn't proof my comment and it sounds like I have an Irish accent. I must have picked it up from the Irish lady I was talking to tonight. :)

Just_Lin said...

SacBarb Hey! There you are! You haven't been having more triple digit temps up there, have you?

sacBarb said...

J/L I think our high was in the 80s today but it was muggy and it rained a little when I came out of church. Yesterday I think it was 101. I stayed in with the a/c all day.

Dianne/Denver said...

Sacbarb: Why thank you for mentioning how lovely I look at first, I thought you would never notice. :)

Yes, I'm still working for my daughter after one week on the job. She is a mortgage processor out of her home and I'm helping her with submitting files. She is really busy right now with the rates so I'm hoping I can take some of the burden off her.

Dianne, Glad to hear you haven't been fired yet. jk It's really good of you to help your daughter out. I hope Louis is feeling better.

Good night and sweet dreams everyone. The Olympics are repeating the shows from today, so I guess I'll go turn on the TV in the bedroom and see what I missed. I already heard about Phelps and Franklin.
