The first time I went to visit Dianne, she took me to Clement Park, near Columbine High School, where the Columbine Memorial is located. I went to look at it on my own and took my camera along. As I neared what I thought was the memorial, I remember thinking that they really could have done a better job, especially since it had already been 10 years since the tragedy. There were some bushes and a couple of flowers and a sign that told where you were.
As I neared the sign, I realized my error. That was just the entrance. Tucked into the side of the hill was the Memorial, and although it was the middle of the day, it was calm and quiet. There were colorful flowers as you walked in. I recognized the white ones as the columbine flower, but I didn't know until later that they were all columbines, just different colors. They were exquisite.
The memorial itself is circular. There is a ring in the center and the families of the deceased were able to write something about or to their loved one. There is water constantly running from a fountain that adds to the tranquility of the place. Along the back wall are quotes from various people: students, parents, President Clinton. One parent was quoted, "I hope people come here to this place to think about how they themselves can be better people rather than come here to reflect on death." A student was quoted as saying, "I would be misleading you if I said I understand this. I don't." If you start at one end and read to the other, there is no way you can get through it all without crying. I filmed this video after reading and while crying, so I'm sorry for the quality, but it will give you an idea of what it's like. The next time you visit Dianne, be sure to have her take you there. It's incredibly humbling.

Wow! What a beautiful memorial.
I didn't know they built that. If It was ever on the new's, I missed it.
Thank's for filming that Tina!♥♥♥
Good Morning Tina!
good morning fuzzy~ how are you doing this fine sunny day?
Good Morning Everyone!
TINA: I'll never forget seeing the Columbine Memorial..I really don't think the magnitude of the loss of life really hit me until I walked along and read the words written by the family memebrs of everyone that loss their life that day. I went at sunset..and it was so eerily quiet and very moving. Every flower placed upon the stone shelves reminded me of a heart that was broken by the loss of a loved one in a terrible and senseless act of violence.
Great blog today TINA, thank you.
Not too bad, Tina. Been up since about 6:30 and trying to get myself motivated.
I think we are going to have another nice day here.
Hope you're doing well today.
BIRRRDDDEEE!!: Congrats on FIRST..glad you DID make it! :D

Staying cool???
BIRDEE: Trying..always trying! It's supposed to be 112 here today..pool weather I'm thinkin'.. ;)

I'm glad you have the pool and MEK's will be ready soon!
Good Morning..
Tina - thank you for your blog today - I can't watch the video yet - cuz just reading your blog has brought tears to my eyes - I remember that day like it was yesterday..
patients kept coming in the office saying one of our high schools had been taken hostage and no one knew WHAT school - it turned everyone's day upside down......
Only saving grace - those two kids made a shitty bomb or it could have been WAY more tragic than it was!!!
Thank God.......
Birdee - you are on a roll...
FORETEEN
yes..
okay - now to continue..
Birdee - congrats on first..
Zona - good morning - it's already hot out there...

:-)
Mary, (area 51)....Sweetie, I'm keeping the fuzzies on...My cute day's are def over! :o)
Dianne, I hope your next trip to the dentist finally does the trick.
Bonacci, OUCH!! sorry you got hurt.
Morning Glories!
Birdee first again!
Tina thank you for sharing the memorial with us! I did not know that this was set up either. How beautiful it is and you can tell a lot of thought went into it.
I love this quote:
"I hope people come here to this place to think about how they themselves can be better people rather than come here to reflect on death."
That would be the best lesson anyone can learn from this tragedy.
Waving at everyone!
From Area 51: Dianne I can feel your pain from my house. I hate dentist stuff! I hope they get that infection cleared up quickly.
Just Lin welcome back! Sounds like you had a great time on your cruise!
Lani so happy to see you posting!
Bonacci so sorry to hear you got hurt!
Ok I am headed to pack a bag Mr. Lynn D and I are taking off for a few days. Going to check on my Uncle who has been very ill and then we are going to spend a few days on the beach.
Mr. Lynn D was so mad at me this weekend because I was so exhausted I was shaking and in bad shape on Sunday. He put his foot down and cleared his schedule and declared we are gone this week. Time for me to get some rest where no one can reach me. So no computer on the trip and no phone calls from the food bank.
Love you all see you when I get back!
Area 51:
JENNIFER: I have pretty much always gotten along with my co-workers..can't remember any real problems. There was one woman I worked with that never seemed to be able to stand anyone for very long. Every few weeks she would get in an argument with someone, march up to the HR office and say "It's him (or her) or me!" In order to keep this 15 yr employee happy, the person she complained about would be moved to another area. One day we saw her marching up the stairs to HR, and we knew exactly what was going to happen. Well, we were wrong. It seems she told HR "It's him or me.." and HR finally said "I guess it's you then!" I think the news spread faster than she could walk out of the building..and boy were there a lot of smiles as she went out the front door!
DIANNE: I sure hope you are finally on the road to being pain free..I'm just sorry it's such a frickin' long road.
CAROL: My shoulder is all wonky..so there haven't been too many laps lately. I have to settle with exercising with the pool noodle. ;)
J/LIN: Welcome back! Can't wait to hear about your trip! :)
Lynn!!! Glad Mr. LynnD put his foot down....get outa here and relax, take care of Yourself!
Sorry your uncle has been sick.
xoxox
LYNND: Good for you..and yay for Mr LYNND..I hope your uncle will be feeling better and that you'll have a relaxing time at the beach.
MEK: Water soon!! Yippee! :)
BIRDEE: I don't want to say you get used to the high temps..you really don't..but you kinda learn to cope..and a pool is a great coping mechanism! Our thermostat is set to 80..but if you come to visit I'll turn it down to 75..and I'll open the curtains!! ;)

25!! YAY!
Good morning, Birdee, Tina, Zona, MEK, Zona, and Lynn D!
Tina, your description of both the memorial and your reaction to it reminded me so much of the Vietnam Vets memorial in Washington! Thanks for writing about it!
Lynn D: Take the time, relax, take a deep breath!
Good Morning Hooters!
Congrats on 1st again fuzzy!!
tina~ thanks for sharing. I had never seen the memorial or any pics of it. Very impressive.
I have to say that I felt the way you did numerous times when in DC. The Vietnam Wall, Arlington and watching the changing of the guard. Impossible to put into words what those emotions are when you 'feel' that experience.
Lynn- enjoy and have fun!
oh, I forgot to say~~~
thanks for the 69 yesterday k-girl :)
bonacci- so sorry you got hurt, glad the drugs were good though!
Good Morning Birdee - Congrats on first. What an early bird you have been lately.
Good Morning Tina, Zona-My-Baby, Mek, Lynn, Whabbear, and Goldie. Wishing you all a great day.
Tina - What a beautiful tribute. I would love to go there. I also remember the day like it was yesterday. I lay on the bed watching it all day crying over the enormity of the whole event. Some images were shown over and over again (like the one where the boy was pulled through the window onto a truck) but I kept watching. I felt I knew every child and his/her parents. I remember Rachel Scott's brother talking about trying to find his sister. It turned out she was shot in front of the school. It was horrible. To add to my memories was a near tragedy here. I was always checking to make sure Tango was near by as she had access to the back yard through her doggy door. I was watching T.V. and never even thought about her. Suddenly there was a knock on the door and my neighbour was holding a wet almost unconscious Tango. She had gone out, saw there were ducks swimming in about a foot of water that was on the winter cover of my swimming pool. She chased them, slipped in and couldn't get out. A neighbour two doors down heard her crying for an hour but didn't know what it was. My next door neighbour arrived home, heard the cry, jumped the fence and saved her. I will love that neighbour for the rest of my life. Tango survived thanks to the Vet. The pool was filled in the next day and I bought a Hot Tub. I always thought I was so careful but it only took one accident and that could have been the end of Tango. I spent the next day again on the bed. This time with a wrapped up puppy watching CNN for another day. The Columbine tragedy and the Oklahoma bombing both affected me so much. When children are involved I get so invested in their lives. Again I think of that song "I Wonder Who'd You Would Be today".
Lynn - Have a good rest. I think you are marvelous with the volunteer work you do. You need a good rest. Listen to your husband.
Zona-My-Baby - I am expecting your call in ten minutes.
Jodi - I got your phone message. I am home all morning, then a nap and home all afternoon. Call me again please. I would love to talk to you.
Whabbear - Did you get a good rest this weekend?
Mek - I am waiting to see pictures of your pool. I bet it's going to be lovely. I know you won't be as foolish as I was and let your dear puppy near it unattended. I will never forgive myself for that mistake. We had wonderful years with our pool and you will too.
Goldie - I saw you got 69 yesterday. I have to hold my record for # 50 so here goes some tedious marching.
Oh I forgot to say we had a wonderful time at the farm. I will read the weekend blogs and be back later. Love, Tinka
I see Birdee, Zona, Mek, LynnD, Bear, Goldie, and Tinka~
Bear and Goldie~ I felt the same way when I saw the Vietnam memorial, the Korean War memorial, and Arlington Cemetary~
Tinka~ I'm glad your Tango was safe and sound~
Morning Hooters...
Thanks Tina~
I think memorials of any kind can tear at your heart as it is brings the tragedy or experience back to reality. My father fought in the Korean War. On his first visit to Hawaii after having surgery and many rounds of chemo we we're out and about and I took them to see the State Building and Iolani Palace (the former home to the ruling Kings and Queens of Hawaii) What he didn't know is that I knew that was the day that they we're dedicating a small memorial to those who we're from Hawaii and had fought in the Korean War. He was overwhelmed.....until that point many had forgotten the lives lost in Korea and the men that had fought there.
My only wish is that we didn't need to build memorials such as these.....especially for children.
Hi, HOoters!
I see Birdee, Zona, Mek, LynnD, Bear, Goldie, Tinka, and Tina/Eunice.
Birdee Congrats on being first today.
Tinka Your little brown owl is so cute on his marches.
Zona I see you slipped in there at 25. I almost didn't see that, you were so stealthy.

Here goes, let's hope I don't wipe myself out again!
Birdee, congrats on 1st, and you are a cutie patootie no matter what you wear :)
Tina, good job on your blog. I have never seen the memorial. It was amazing! I especially loved the water fountains.

Waving at Zona, Whabby, Goldie & JustLin~~~~~~
I want you all to know I have NOT talked to Di today! I have no idea that she feels like shit! I DO NOT know that she sounds awful! I DO know that I feel so bad for her and wish she felt better~ And I love her like a mother~ :)~ (how'd I do?) :D
Tina, You don't know that I feel bad for her and that she is getting my hugs! Diane we don't know anything lol!
Hey Mary~
What I didn't explain in my earlier post is that my Dad was sent to Korea with the 24th Infantry which was based at Schofield Barracks here on Oahu. So he had spent many months "holed" up in a MASH unit with locals. It's a small small world sometimes. The woman who gave me my Hawaiian name was the wife of one of my Dad's war buddies....but that's another blog~
Should I not know that Dianne_who_got_another_root_canal_in_Denver is feeling like shit? Should I not be sending well wishes that she feels better?
Kgrl, you gave me chills! Yes it is a small world!
Not waving at Diane~~
sticking my tongue out at Dianne~
Hi All,
Well, I don't know if you saw the news but Louisville got hit pretty hard today with rain. Everything is fine here but downtown, west, south and University of Louisville got a lot of flooding!

Dianne: I hope you get to feeling better really soon.
I did 35,313 steps today. My best since I started recording! woo hoo.

Happy Dance
I don't quite understand NCIS but I am trying. Night All.
I thought I posted this an hour ago but it says it's still saved. I will try again.
Mary - I thought I requested you. Did I request the wrong person? Facebook has given me a slight headache today. Zona kept me from getting a migraine.
I am glad you didn't step on me.
The Happy Dance was for getting 100. It posted an hour later than it was supposed to.
Jennifer - Thank you for the wishes. My daughter, son-in-law, his brother, Tango, Barack Obama and Gelman on "Regis and Kelly" were all born on this day. Lots of celebrating is going on tonight.
I got Tango a new red velvet collar with "diamonds" on it. She looks beautiful.
Dianne - I hope you feel better tonight.
Bebbi - You are doing great. Congratulations.

Tinka, you have the right Mary. I didn't know you had already "friend ed" me when I asked you. You did a fine job on FB. I an glad Zona was helful.
Tinka, holy cow! I can't believe I forgot to tell you to add my stepdaughter Gracie to that list. She turned ten today along with your daughter. lol
TINA - I just read your blog and viewed the video. It is quite touching and it does bring tears. My clock chimed 10 chimes just as I started the video. It made the whole experience even more solemn.
Thank you. xoxoxo
Happy Birthday Gracie. I hope you had a fine day. Tango did and so did my daughter even though tomorrow is really her party.
Off to bed again. I will get there yet.
Dianne It's a good thing I don't know that you don't feel well 'cause otherwise I'd have to tell you how badly I feel for you and how much I hope you feel better soon. :)
Tink: Lazy Bear Weekend is actually anything but "lazy" or "restful". It's a nonstop party that leaves you needing a vacation from your vacation! LOL!
So I stayed up at the Russian River yeterday and just kind of chilled out (no alcohol even), and then leisurely drove home in the late afternoon.
Despite all the craziness, I wouldn't miss it for the world! :)
Dianne: How are you today? LOL!
