My Roller Coaster Ride

Lately my life has been like a roller coaster ride. The ride has been going up and down so much lately that I wish the darn roller coaster would go straight for a while.
I have been trying to keep my chin up even when the car is going down the hill. It is a lot of work and I'm exhausted every night.

I rely on my children and a good book. I love to get lost in a book and I love to watch my children laugh.

Iteach: Wow great blog. I have felt my whole life has been a roller coaster and have always craved a level track.
Right now is kind of up and down and it is wearing me out.
I am like you when things get really stressful I read like a demon. I can go through 6 or 7 books a week. I also get very sleepy and want to be in bed! I know this is purely to let my whirling thoughts focus on something else.
I also tend to over commit myself with projects just to keep the roller coaster at bay.
I have been working on trying to face the various issues and let myself know it is OK and I just don't have to control every out come. This is really hard!!!
I let myself know there is a plan I just can't see it right now.

Sometimes in life we are hit with way to much at one time. And yes it does feel like a roller coaster! I always say God does not give you want you can't handle, so that is what I think about, when times as such as this hits me. I tell myself I can handle it, cause it I could not it would not be thrown my way!

Good morning!
iteach what a great blog this morning. Things sure do go up and down. Right now things are on a pretty even keel.
We have little things, like our tenant. It could be a major issue, but I decided after losing sleep that she is not worth it. We will get her out and carry on.
Hopefully things will stay steady. I don't like that "dip" down to the low side.
Premenopause sure makes things difficult, tho! yikes.

Good Morning - What a beautiful day. Yesterday I was so frustrated with a myspace that wouldn't 'log on' until we discovered the anti phishing ad was interferring. I also found out last night that they were working on cable in our area which slowed things down to a 'trinkle'. I would try to send a message or blog and it would take 10 minutes to post. I was ready to give up myspace and blogging altogether. But here it is a new day and after spending 6 hours yesterday working with the Mac tech guy installing new programs and solving problems I am ready to blog and answer my messages with a new enthusiasm. I love this place.

Iteach - I feel like I am coasting right now. Being retired, most of my big goals have either been achieved or given up on. (I always wanted to learn to speak many languages but never made it). Day by day is a roller coaster ride because life is so unpredictable. I have been trying all my life to not worry about what may happen tomorrow but I never really succeeded. I will however keep trying to 'live for today'.
I was going to correct a word in my first comment but I clicked 'post' instead of 'edit'. For the spelling police, there are not 3 'r's in 'interfering.'

Zona - You are still here. So happy to see you. Yes I was very frustrated yesterday. I missed you too. I had better go and answer messages or my owl friends will think I don't love them anymore. You can write me at myspace again. They fixed the problem. I wish they would stop 'messing around' with it. I liked it better when we could send messages and pictures without doing the security code. It is supposed to be for our protection but why do they need to make the code so difficult to copy. With my eyes, sometimes I have to
try three times before I succeed.

Life is a roller coaster - I seem to be more down than up - I have felt this way since we moved to AZ - It's not pretty! - on the outside - I seem to be a VERY happy person, but on the inside - I'm dying!! (gosh - I have never put that in writing before)..
Cpgem - I have always said the same thing about God - that he doesn't give us more than we can handle - and then I have to add - I must have EXTREMELY broad shoulders, cuz sometimes, I feel as though I am holding the whole world on them..... and I'll stop my thoughts right there..... Iteach: Sorry about the roller coaster you have been on. Life can seem like that, expecially when the kids are small. I feel like I am coasting right now and all is good. I do believe, as Carol said, that we are always where we are supposed to be and things work out as they should according to a plan (LynnD). I just wish I knew the plan sometimes. Other times, I think it's a good thing I didn't know the plan.

My roller coaster is in full forward motion right now. The good, the bad and the ugly.
I have a friend going thru a terrible ordeal, I have assholes and idiots to deal with at work and I am tired of getting it up the butt at the gas pump and grocery store.
That said- Mr. Goldie and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary 2 weeks from today and in just over 3 weeks I will be going to a lovely resort for 10 days that is within 20 minutes of my Grandbabies!! My kids are healthy and happy and I am grateful that my Mom is also doing well. She leaves on our anniversary for 2 1/2 months in Germany. So on that front life is really good.
I too can devour a book in pretty much a day and a half or 2 and I love to read! It lets me lose myself and stop my stressing.
Ok, I thought I was doing better today but my internet is not allowing me into the system I have spent the last 2 days uploading on my office computer...oy

My roller coaster has been on a pretty even keel since retirement except for friend's & family deaths or illnesses. I feel pretty helpless then. Except for that I don't let too many things get to me anymore. It's a waste of my energy. Stress can bring on many physical problems.

Zona~ It helps to be married to a Finn-lander. Nothing gets to him. My first Huz was just the opposite. He had me walking on eggshells. It took me a long time to get used to Mr Mary's laid back ways. Yoga taught me how to relax & bring my BP down fast.
I never mastered the meditation stuff. There is no magic answer. Everyone deals with stress differently.
p.s. Mr Mary may not deal to well with my being gone 2wks to an other country LOL!! We have never been separated more than 3 days.

Went to leave on a mini-road trip this morning and I realized I had a goopy eye. Went to the walk-in clinic...and yup..it's pink eye. None of the schools I was to see want me to come in...surprise!! The doctor prescribed eye drops...anybody have any home remedies for pink eye?
Vig, sorry I have never dealt with pink eye. I only know it is contagious...stand back a little please ..lol!
Okay, Mary, and I will wash my hands before I type!!! No pink eye for the Owls. Wait a minute don't Owls have red/pink eyes?!

VIG, home care for pink eye can be warm compresses (be sure to use a clean wash cloth/towel each time).
Also, using saline solution is soothing for the itchy, sandpaper feeling of pink eye.
It is very contagious, so wash your hands a lot!
The policy where I work is that if you have pink eye, you stay home.

Ah, the roller coaster ride -- been on too many to count or wish to recount. Things have been a little more even for me lately. I don't how or why but I'm going to enjoy this moment and not worry about what the next one is going to bring. Between Randy Pausch and Eckhart Tolle, I've learned some really valuable lessons over the past couple of months.
In one of his web classes with Oprah, Tolle said stress comes from wishing the moment to be different. I think about that every time I'm tempted to say I'm feeling stressed and it helps. He also talked about the saying, "this too shall pass", and I'm beginning to realize that is an undeniable fact that applies both to the positive and negative aspects of life. And how do we decide what is positive and what is negative? It's all about our conditioned thoughts about a particular event.
I've always been more than a little envious of people who can take things in stride. I understand now that it has to do with the difference between our conditioning. We aren't born responding to things the way we do. My first area of practice has been when I'm driving. Instead of yelling at other drivers (under my breath or at least in a way they don't hear me) when they do something I perceive as idiotic (and let's face it, this happens alot), I remind myself it isn't personal and, BTW, by the time I've reacted to them, the moment has already passed. A better use of my energy is to remember that I'm alive, I'm breathing, and I'm in a pretty darn good place. The first time I did this, I was caught completely off guard at how free I felt. If I resorted to my previous behavior, I would have fumed for at least a couple of minutes and probably would have carried some of that anger with me.
Tolle talked about two ducks having a squabble -- the ducks quarreled for a few seconds and when it was over, they flapped their wings as if to shake it off and the quarrel was forgotten. After this lesson, I noticed my dogs also "shake it off" after a too-rough play session. I hope I can continue to flap my wings and shake things off -- it really is a great feeling!
Speaking of wings -- YH, Youngest Son, The Pups, and I will be breezing through MEK's state on Sunday on our way to Oklahoma City. MEK, I'd wave a wing your way as we pass through but I'm terrible at directions and not sure which way that will be so I'll just flap both wings at all our potty stops. The other road warriors may think I've gone bonkers but oh well...

I agree with you, there are many things that are really petty. Things I get upset about, then realize that in the scheme of things, my problems are nothing compared to people who have nothing following a tornado, etc.
Sometimes when I am feeling sorry for myself (like dealing with our tenant), I stop to think that I am so lucky to have a roof over my head, a good job that I love, all the things that many people do not have.
So I try to just look past the small things and count my blessings that I am fortunate to have what I have.
Like I mentioned earlier, the premenopause is hell. I can't believe the mood changes and hot flashes. I am afraid to take anything like hormone replacement, because my mom had breast cancer. I feel she got it from taking the HRs.
Anyway, life goes on and we have to deal with what we are given. That's the bottom line. I just try to deal with it by not freaking out, and try to rationalize what can be done.
ITEACH - Great blog. I'm definitely on one roller coaster ride right now......what do you think with a hormonal teenage daughter? LOL!! My favorite magnet says.....Give your troubles to God...He's up all night anyway!! And I also believe that He will not give you anymore than you can handle.

After waiting forever for my sites to load I finally called the internet people to launch a complaint. I have had just about my limit the last few days of people and corporations not doing what they are supposed to do. But lo and behold I find out that a major fiber optic line has been cut down by Chicago and that is affecting all internet providers to some degree in this area. So, if you are having problems in the midwest- thats why. Couldn't even bitch about it! What fun is that???
I am going to give myself a much needed break today and leave work early. I decided an hour early is good. Do you think I should tell anyone I am leaving or just go??? :)

EBJ...thanks for your ideas! I will try them out!! I was surprised that the doctor told me that pink eye was jut a virus and to wash my hands alot and go to work. The schools I was to go to today didn't agree with him and told me not to come. I totally agreed with them and not the doctor!

I snuck out of work early, I took Pepper for a long walk, I came home and gorged on pasta again, and now I am looking at a lovely bowl of strawberries I just cleaned. I feel so much better.
Waiting for Idol tonight and I am going to eat those strawberries and put my feet up. I have also come to the realization that I will be happy if David C DOES NOT WIN Idol! He will be free to use his artistic influences on an album not under their control. Didn't see to hurt Daughtery much!
I owned and ran a day care of 10 years. The rule was that kids with pink eye had to be on medication for a minimum of 24 hours before they could be around the other kids. Good luck with that Vig- and wash those hands!

I am home and just dragging behind again. In the words of Iteach Aunt Flo is visiting and she is sucking the life right out of me.
Vig: I have had pink eye about 6 times as an adult. I did not get it from my kids. I got it from people I worked with at the furniture store.
It is a pain in the butt! I do know that you are no longer contagious after you use the eye drops for 24 hours and yes use a clean cloth everytime you wash them. Also change your pillow case everyday for a couple of days!
I evidently am highly suseptible (sp) to it.

Seven months ago, I was very, very low but then, out of nowhere, Custard came along and I've been going up ever since. I'm pretty darn high right now, as you know. There are so many highs and lows as we go through life. It's the lows that make the highs so wonderful. (((HUGS)))
MEK I'm sorry that you have to live someplace you don't like. That can change, one day, too.
iteach I'm sorry, but I didn't go to my beloved Farmer's Market today, afterall. I had a long lunch with friends, then had to go clothes shopping (which I absolutely hate to do), then had to go to the paint store to get paint for my bedroom. On the way home I forgot about the market until I was already driving by the turn off. I thought I might go back a little later but then the fog came in and there's a very cold wind blowing. Plus, I'm just tired and lazy now.
