How To Stay Young

by Mary/MI

1.  Try everything twice. On one woman's tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph:
"Tried everything twice. Loved it both times!"

2.  Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

3. Keep learning: Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever...Never let the brain get idle.  'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with HIM /HER.

6.. The tears happen: Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love: whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever..Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips..Take a trip to the mall, even to the next  city, state, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second chance.

What J/L said.

Jodi, ditto.

Going to fix me some left-over prime rib for diner. I left it in a little too long and we didn't have any rare. I used a meat thermometer but I forgot that it continues to cook after it's taken out of the oven, but it was still pretty good...mostly pink and no one complained.

BARB - Love me some prime rib, but I've never made it at home. Have a good night :-)

What does everyone have planned for New Year's?

Dianne/Denver said...

Hi Everyone....

We went to an after Christmas party today at my uncles. They usually have it before but no time this year. It was very nice. I liked it being the weekend after as things are calmer this week.

Yum, I'd like some potato soup and bourbon balls. Sounds like a perfect breakfast, lunch or dinner to me.

Jodi, have fun with Lois and be careful, driving home. Go packers!!!

Going to my brothers for the bad Raider game tomorrow and stay for dinner too. Barb, ready to bet and give me points? I know how you like to do that with me when the two teams meet. Umm, we need to win to have playoff at home...if you don't mind? We don't need a spoiler team to mess it up, please.

Wow Jl....70... I'll take that it's snowing here lightly tonight and in the 20's.

Whoops I put this on yesterday's or this mornings blog but Louis showed me how to copy and paste it.

We are going to dinner with a couple of other couples on New Years Eve and then home. I think on anew Years Day we might go up n the mountains for lunch and to the casinos for the afternoon....depending on the weather.

Good blog, Mary and words to think about for sure.

Barb, I love rare prime rib. My daughters boyfriend made it on Thanksgiving but cooked it pretty well done. It wasn't good. He said his the thermometer broke.

I still thinking about the soup, and balls

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I have some leftover soup for you but no balls. I gave all of them to my daughter as I made them specifically for her.

HOdi I will be home with my dog on New Year's Eve. On New Year's Day I will be going to dinner and movie with friends. We are interested in seeing "The Wolf of Wall Street".

sacBarb said...

I have no plans for New Year's Eve, but I might go to the movies on New Year's Day. Not sure what movie I'll see yet.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I'm not a betting person, remember???

Dianne/Denver said...

Barb ...I know except with me on Raider games...remember? Bet you a nice rare rib roast ..I'll take the broncos and 15 points...deal?? If I lose I'll have to hire someone to pay off the bet. Maybe JL can make some balls for you. Am I tempting you yet?

I'd like to go see the new movie with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. I can't remember the name. It's something with august in the title I think. It looks funny.

Dianne/Denver said...

Movie is August: Osage County

Jodi said...

DIANNE - Hope the Broncos win for that home field advantage!! Big game today in Chicago. Praying we beat those "Stinky Bears"!!!

Jodi said...

SLIN - The Wolf of Wall Street looks good!!

Jodi said...

BARB - I work on New Year's Day. I think the Badgers r playing in a bowl game. I think its the Capital One Bowl.

Jodi said...

DIANNE - August Osage County looks really good, too!!

Being that I work at the pre-buttcrack of dawn on New Year's Day, I can't stay real long, but I am going to my bosses New Year's Eve party. I'm heading over to his apartment earlier in the afternoon to help him get ready for the party.

Jodi said...

Got home ok from LOIS's. The roads were kinda dicy til I hit Rockford. Took me about 45 minutes longer than usual. Just remade our bed and am going to sit down to watch the Packers!!

Just_Lin said...

HOdi Glad you got home safe and sound.

I went to work for a while today. I meant to go in yesterday but I forgot! Yikes! Alzheimer's, anyone?

Jodi said...

SLIN - Looks like we will be playing The Niners next week. That was a heckofa game!! So good to see my Aaron back out there!!

Hi there! Sorry to be MIA. I have been getting ready for our New Years Eve party at the VFW. Jim and I are doing it again. I think this is our 10th year.
I drove to Lansing to get a new monitor for my karaoke. I have been waiting for them to go on sale. It was 32 deg. when I left. I started raining and the temps went down 5 deg. before I got home. I was a wreck thinking the roads would get icy!
Jodi I would not have attempted a road trip! You are a lot braver than me!

My sons have been working hard outside cleaning up the branches and sawing down trees that the ice storm downed. I hate when they climb ladders and use chain saws!!
My son Tony was coming down from the ladder and slipped and rolled down our embankment. He wasn't hurt. Good thing because when he disappeared Jim bout had a stroke, then they all laughed about it!! It was a big walnut tree close to the house.

Since our Lions took a dive I lost interest in watching football today. On a good note, our Michigan State Spartans are in the Rose Bowl New Years Day!!

In about 2 weeks we are heading to Vega$. Our anniversary is the Jan. 22nd. W e leave on the 20th.

Time to check my farm and hit the bed.

Jodi said...

MARY - So glad your boy is ok!! And it was beautiful when I took off on Friday. The scary drive back was sooooo worth the trip!! I just kept saying prayers that my angels watch over me ♥ I will be keeping an eye on your Spartans in the Rose Bowl!!

Jodi said...

Best get prettied up for work. Love me a 3 day work week. I only work today, Wednesday and Thursday!!

Have a great day HOoters ♥

Just_Lin said...

HOdi The 49ers won their game in the last 2 seconds. They need to step it up big-time if they're going to get anywhere in the playoffs.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Sounds like you will be partying on New Year's Eve. I hope it's good travel weather for you.

Jodi said...

SLIN - I just hope Sunday wasn't a fluke!!

Jodi said...

30!!

Temps tonight are going to drop again below zero and we are under a winter weather advisory starting at noon tomorrow. We could get up to 8 inches of snow by New Year's Day. Oh joy ;)

Heading out soon for bowling with my gays. I don't have to bowl, but feel like a few beers since I have tomorrow off.

Have a good night HOoters ♥

Just_Lin said...

HOdi I bet you're having a lot of fun even if you aren't bowling. I'm making a yellow sheet cake. The Best By date on the box was July 2013 and I only had 2 eggs, not 3, so substituted 1 Tb milk for the 3rd egg. It will be interesting to see how it comes out.

Mary/MI said...

Making a quick fly-by! I have a hair appmt in the morning. I have no idea what I was thinking making an appmt. on NYE day! I have so much to do! I have to drive into the big city (Lansing) to get it done and we are supposed to get snow tomorrow. I sure hope it waits until I get home!
We don't have far to drive NYE. Just 6 miles to our little town's VFW.

Later hooters! I'll prolly see you all next year!!

Dianne/Denver said...

Hi Everyone....not much going on at my house. Had lunch with my daughter and came home and napped. Boring.

I hopefully will be able to visit my volunteer lady tomorrow. Haven't seen her for two weeks. Dinner out tomorrow might and then it's a new year!!

Broncos did really good Sunday and now we get home field advantage. We did last year but lost so hope we do better this time. We don't know who we play yet.

Jodi, you be careful out there on those roads and walking too. That was quite a game you had Sunday.
Now u and JL play each other? I'll have to wear two tassels.

Mary, sounds like you have a fun New Year's Eve planned. I wish I lived by you and could come to the party.

JL..how did the cake turn out? I wouldn't have used it but I'm funny about dates. Now you have to eat the whole cake!

Hi barb. What are you doing?

Just_Lin said...

Dianne The cake turned out fine. I worry more about the dates on perishables in the fridge than on dry goods in the cupboard. On cake mixes, it just means they won't guarantee it's at it's optimum best past that date. Now, if it was a year old, I would have thrown it out because it might not have risen very well at that point.

SLIN - We had a blast last night!! We had a couple of pitchers of Spotted Cow. My boss didn't want a big pint glass, so I went and got him a "kiddie kup"!! So funny!!

Jodi said...

MARY - I hope that snow holds off til you get back. I'm sure you look marvelous!!

Jodi said...

DIANNE - So funny....wearing 2 tassels!! Need a pic of that for sure ;) They now have scaled back the winter storm advisory. Won't start until 3pm and we might get up to 4 inches.

Just_Lin said...

HOdi LOL @ the kiddie kup!

Just_Lin said...

I got up a couple of hours ago for a phone call. The dog is still sleeping on my bed. What's wrong with this picture?

Jodi said...

SLIN - I slept on the couch in the basement. Woke up at ny "normal" time, fed the fire, and went back to bed. Slept til 9:30. That never happens!!

Just_Lin said...

Took the dog for a nice long walk by the pier. On the way home, I decided to stop for milk and eggs. It took me forever to find a parking spot and once I did, I realized I had only a driver's license with me; no money and no debit card. Took me another 10 minutes to back out of parking space because no one would let me out! Agh!

Happy New Year to all you HOoters.

I am chillin' at home and hoping to stay up to see the ball drop into 2014. Funny that I stay up til the wee hours when there is no reason and when I make a plan to stay up, I usually fall asleep early. I hope you all have an exciting New Year's Eve. ♥

Just_Lin said...

Barb Chillin' at home here, too. I think I'll get out the Bailey's pretty soon.

Dianne/Denver said...

Happy New Years to u all. It's 1:15 here and Nrw a Years for all of us now. I hope we all have a good a healthy year ahead.
