Wise Old Man

by Dianne

A wise old gentleman retired and purchased a modest home near a junior high school. He spent the first few weeks of his retirement in peace and contentment.

Then a new school year began. The very next afternoon three young boys, full of youthful, after-school enthusiasm, came down his street, beating merrily on every trash can they encountered. The crashing percussion continued day after day, until finally the wise old man decided it was time to take some action.

The next afternoon, he walked out to meet the young percussionists as they banged their way down the street. Stopping them, he said, “You kids are a lot of fun. I like to see you express your exuberance like that. In fact, I use to do the same thing when I was your age. Will you do me a favor? I’ll give you each a dollar if you’ll promise to come around every day and do your thing.” he kids were elated and continued to do a bang-up job on the trashcans.

After a few days, the old-timer greeted the kids again, but this time he had a sad smile on his face. “This recession’s really putting a big dent in my income,” he told them. “From now on, I’ll only be able to pay you 50 cents to beat on the cans.”

The noisemakers were obviously displeased, but they did accept his offer and continued their afternoon ruckus. A few days later, the wily retiree approached them again as they drummed their way down the street.

“Look,” he said, “I haven’t received my Social Security check yet, so I’m not going to be able to give you more than 25 cents. Will that be okay?”

“A lousy quarter?” the drum leader exclaimed. “If you think we’re going to waste our time, beating these cans around for a quarter, you’re nuts! No way, mister. We quit!”

And the old man enjoyed peace and serenity for the rest of his days.

Hi....WE are having a really good time in Deadwood. We went on a bus tour today for a couple of hours. Saw wild bill hickocks grave and where he was shot. Lots of history here. Went black hills gold jewelry shopping. Louis found a chair to nap in as I shopped. Had some yummy ice cream cones snd went to a different place to gamble. I won $258 right before left on a penny machine playing 75 cents. I'm excited!!! I was talking or really more listening to a guy next to me that has 17 kids. I was learning his life story we both almost started crying sometimes. He ended up giving me two buffet tickets for free dinner on him. I must have charmed him....lol. Tomorrow we have activities planned all day and then a little more gambling and then home. It's just a quick little get away. The place we are staying is pretty nice for not much money. It was the Sturgis motorcycle rally last week and they said over 500,000 bikers were here..whEw. It's been very quiet this week which is just fine with us.

Dianne, That was a good story, and funny, too. Yes, my hubby loved bologna and he did eat it for a lunch a lot, but I did change it up with other lunch meats and egg salad and sometimes even PB&J. He did take a big lunch, but he was 19 when we got married and he worked off all the calories. Neither of us was fat back then. I don't think I've had bologna since he died. I don't mind it, but I just don't buy it anymore.

Congratz on being all packed early. I'm sure you feel really good about having it done and all the other stuff, too.

Are you watching Bachelor in Paradise?

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I think we were typing at the same time. Deadwood sounds like a fun place and winning on the slots is always a very good thing. I am never that lucky on slot machines.

Dianne said...

Barb, I'm never lucky Either. It was a fluke but exciting watching the meter go,up ,
Have you ever been to Mt rushmore? It's really pretty here.

No, I don't watch that show. I've kind of given up,reality shows

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Thanks for the blog. It's really cute.

It does sound like you are having a really nice time on your get away. The winnings at the slot machine is like icing on the cake. How fun! I've never been to that area but it sounds like a neat place to go. I would make sure not to go at the same time as the motorcycle rally, though. It's probably a good thing you missed that.

I have nothing exciting to write about. Sunday I stayed home and played with my paints. Monday I did some grocery shopping and a little housework. Yesterday I played with the dog for a while and then met my friends at a local little Chinese/American restaurant for dinner. I had one of their specials of the day; chicken marsala. It seems counter intuitive to order that at a Chinese restaurant but it was actually okay.

Barb I haven't had bologna in quite a while now but I do like it and now that I'm an older person, I like the turkey bologna which is less calories and tastes just like regular bologna to me. I like bologna and cheese sandwiches and bologna and tomato sandwiches. Maybe I'll look this up and see how many WW points it would be. I'm getting a little tired of turkey sandwiches. That was so funny about you making your husband a sandwich using the cardboard bologna. You must have been half asleep. By the way, yesterday was my day to weigh myself and I am down 1 1/2 lbs for the week so I guess my large jar of Hershey kisses hasn't been hurting me too much even though I seem to take one every time I walk by it. LOL

Well, it looks like there's going to be plenty of tears and drama next week on Bachelor in Paradise.

Dianne, I have not been to Mt. Rushmore, but I would like to go sometime. I'm getting old, so I need to hurry up an go to the places on my bucket list. Sharon and I may go to Hawaii again in January or February. We were going to go in September, but my roof expense curtailed that, so we decided to wait until after the holidays.

sacBarb said...

J/L, That bologna story came up quite a few times during our 33 years of marriage and I have to admit, it was funny, although when it first happened, I was embarrassed. I was too young to appreciate the humor in it.

Hi...we're home. Got home last night. We had a really fun trip. We spent one day going to Devils Tower In Wyoming about an hour from Deadwood and to bear country which was really fun and to Mt Rushmore. Louis was just about to give up gambling and then won $400. Once he wins he won't put that back so he always comes home a winner. We had 70's weather. They said it had been 100!!! Glad we missed that part.

I didn't weigh yet as I was too bloated today but tomorrow I will. Not too excited about it. Wonder why on vacation ice cream always seems extra good? Not much doing today...unpacked and got hair colored.

Tammy went to jakes hearing today and DA didn't have things ready (stupid) so postponed until oct 26. He will stay in jail we think until hearing ..we hope.

Barb, that would be fun if you go to Hawaii again. I'd really like to go there with louis. He's never been and I'd like him to see Pearl Harbor. I went many years ago. I'd like to go in our winter. Maybe after louis retires this year. He started school today. He wasn't really excited so no first day of school picture of him. Lol.

JL, I've never tried the turkey bologna but I don't eat the regular either. I might get some with all the food talk. Glad to see you are painting. It looks really nice.

Mary....where are you?

Hi there! Heading to bed and thought I better check in.
It has been one hectic week! I haven't started packing yet!
I spent the day with my sis in Wyoming (MI). We went shopping for things for my Niece Raquel's upcoming baby shower. My sis is so excited on being a Grandma!
Wed. I had my mani/pedi, Thurs. had my hair dyed, tomorrow a memorial service for an elderly lady friend who had been suffering from Dementia and later Alzheimer.
I visited my neighbors Dad the other day in a nursing home who is also suffering from Alzheimer. Such a sad disease!
Sunday I have a long drive to a wedding shower, my Grandson Logan's fiance`. I hate driving anywhere near Detroit or Ann Arbor. I need to go there soon to meet up with Karina. I keep telling her I will meet her half way for lunch, but life keeps getting in my way lol!

Time to head to bed. I was up very early today. Zoie won't go to bed until I do, so she is pooped too lol!!
Sorry I didn't comment on each of you. You know I love you!! :)

sacBarb said...

Mary, Good to see you back here. When is Raquel's baby due? Do they know the sex yet? I remember when she came to Judy's BABB with you. She was so nice and friendly with us strangers and would-be axe murders! LOL When you do get together with Karina, please give her a big hug from me.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I bet you are glad to be back home and sleeping in your own bed. I am always glad to get back to my own bed after traveling.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne It sounds like you had a wonderful time in and around Deadwood. I've never been to that part of the country. It sounds like you found plenty of things to do there or nearby. Louis must have been happy with his $400 win. Unfortunately, I'm not the type to walk away after a win. I probably would have put half of the win back into the slot machine.

As for Jake's hearing....What a waste of everyone's time for the DA not to be prepared. I'm sure this is small potatoes compared to some cases but that's no excuse. This is part of the reason the courts are so backed up.

A trip to Hawaii would be a nice way to celebrate Louis's birthday.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Which island are you and Sharon thinking of going to? I've been to Oahu, Maui, and Kauai, but never the big island. Living where I live, I definitely do not have enough clothing for hot weather. Planning a trip usually forces me to go shopping for new clothes.

Thursday night a friend and I went to Olive Garden for dinner. They are having their "buy one, take one home" event. I brought home a spaghetti dinner so that was my dinner for Friday night. I missed not having that delicious Zuppa Toscana at home, though. As much as I like their salad, I just can't pass up the chance to have that soup. I did make it once when my son and his kids were staying with me but it makes too much to make it just for me. I was very pleased that it turned out well and tasted just like what you get at the restaurant.

Just_Lin said...

Mary You are always so busy and are such a good friend and neighbor, always visiting with people who are ill or shut in. I hope you are able to make time to meet up with Karina. You need to do that before the snow starts, right?

I am trying to force myself to get my paints out once a week and play with them. Even if I am not wild about the end product, I find I always learn something from each endeavor and that's a good thing.

I don't know what bug got up my ass yesterday, but I did quite a lot of housework and laundry. I'm glad that doesn't happen too often. LOL

Dianne said...

JL, we are beating you right now for the pre-season game but it's only half time. We really don't know who our quarterback is this year...Not good. I like your coach. We went to Olive Garden with my son and family tonight. It was so nice to see them and the boys. We never get to see them as they are always so busy with sports. We did the buy one get one too.

Housecleaning....wow!! I seldom get that urge. I did get unpacked before louis this trip..very unusual for me. Tomorrow will be the darn laundry. I'll wait until louis is home to help me fold as there is a lot. I think that's really good that you are getting your paints out. I think the pictures you post are good.

It would be nice to go to Hawaii but as louis reminds me, we've already had our vacation this year. He has school anyway for this year.
I've never been to the big island either. I'd like to do it on a cruise.

Mary, Vegas on Monday, right? How long are you going to be there? Any shows planned? I agree with JL, you are a good friend and neighbor. Have fun at the shower tomorrow.

Our news is full of showing the traffic to Wyoming for the eclipse. Louis ordered glasses a week ago and they didn't come today. He'll probably get them Monday afternoon!! They are out every where here.

Barb, I'm never really ready to come home from vacation. Lately I sleep terrible everywhere. It was a fun trip and so pretty. I like the Mt Rushmore area better than Yellowstone. There is a lot more to do there.

Stupid about the Jake thing. How long do they need to prepare?

Well, guess I'll get back to watching the game.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, As long as they keep Jake in jail, I guess it's not terrible that they weren't prepared, but I'm sure it's frustrating for your family.

We are going to go to Oahu. I've been to Maui, Kauai and the Big Island a number of times, but only to Oahu once, and it was only for two days. We stopped there on the way to Kauai one time and went to the Arizona/Pearl Harbor exhibit. I didn't think I would be so moved by it all. We also met Turtle on that trip and we took her to dinner and the next night we went with her to see Sunway and her band at the time. I think she has different people with her now.

sacBarb said...

J/L, The first time I had that Zuppa Toscana was when you were here and we went to OG. I ordered it based on your recommendation and I order it every time now. I've never tried to make it. If it makes too much for you why not split it up into portions and freeze them. That's what I do when I do finally cook something like taco soup or spaghetti sauce. That way I am not tempted to eat too much and I can still enjoy it at a later date. Lately, I am mostly eating Jenny Craig food still because it forces me to use portion control.

Just_Lin said...

Hi, HOoters. Well, it's Eclipse Day. It's very unexciting here as we have so much cloud cover. It just looks dull and dusky outside. I guess it will get darker later. Have any of you got glasses or devices to look at it. I don't. I guess I'm just not that into it.

Dianne said...

No glasses. Louis ordered and was guaranteed they'd be here in time. Still, haven't received them. Too late now. It was very clear here and got pretty dark when it was supposed to. Great tv pictures. I love the zuppa but sometimes it's a little spicy for me.

I'm not feeling well. My cough is back, I feel very lightheaded and my breathing is terrible. I got a dr appt tomorrow. I'm not getting any sleep either. Dr gave me a new sleeping pill to try and I felt drugged this morning and I still got no sleep. I'm not taking that again. I'm afraid dr will put me on oxygen. It's all very depressing. Sorry I'm whining

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Maybe the problem is something like allergies. Not sleeping is not helping anything, that's for sure, and neither is feeling drugged. I'm glad you got a doctor appointment so soon.

Louis must have been very disappointed not to get his eclipse glasses in time.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I went clothes shopping today. That's a statement I don't make very often. LOL I got two pairs of pants and 3 tops and even a pair of little ankle boots. Yikes! I'm on a roll!

Just_Lin said...

Mary Waving a wing at you!

Dianne said...

LOUIS received his glasses today. I went to dr and she put me on a stronger water pill, echo cardiogram next week, blood work today. She said I'm retaining a lot of fluid. I don know if that will help me breath. Increased my sleepy pill too. I went to Costco and it was half the price it usually is for 90 pills. Weird. I have to go back in a week. Ended up with $1.50 hot dog and drink for dinner. Can't beat the price.

JL, sounds like you got a lot of shopping done. Did you do it all at the same store? That always helps. The boots will be good in the smow...ha ha.

Hi mary and Barb.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I love the hot dogs at Costco. It's about the only time I eat hot dogs. They do sell those same hot dogs inside the store in packages of 12 or 24 I think. I bought them once when Chad was here, but I won't buy them again unless I have company, because I would be too tempted to eat them all. When Chad was here, we split them up into portions of three to baggie and froze them so we could have one portion for each of us in the baggie. They are very hard to pull apart when the whole bunch is frozen. Chad was here for almost three months, and they were all gone by the time he left. LOL The cooked hot dogs that they sell outside of Costco have been $1.50 since 1980-something. Every time I go to Costco, I wonder if/when they are going to raise the price.

sacBarb said...

J/L, I didn't go outside to look at the eclipse either because I didn't have glasses or other devises to watch it. I did open the door, just to see it it looked darker but it didn't really look too different. we had about 80% totally here. I did watch the reporting on TV and it was really cool! The station I was watching chased it from Oregon to South Carolina. In IL they were in a stadium with 15,000 people who paid big bucks for seats, (some paid $1000), and the cloud cover obscured the whole thing. What a disappointment for them.

sacBarb said...

Hi Mary.

Dianne said...

Dr called late today and said I don't have congestive heart failure but my sodium is "dangerously" low and get right to blood place stat. Well it was 4:15 and I was on other side of town so going first thing in am. Scares me.

I don't want to cook those hot dogs but it's a treat when we go. Barb, you ate a lot of hot dogs. The pizza always looks good. Have you ever tried it? We had 92% on the eclipse so it got pretty dark here. It was interesting. Boy, I would hate to pay all that money and have clouds.

I think mary is in Vegas

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Did you get another blood test this morning? Did the doctor get back to you about the results, yet? I like that I get my lab test results on the computer as soon as they are available. I can compare with past results and know when things are getting better or worse.

Louis must have been very annoyed to get his glasses a day late. I know I would have been, especially when they are only good for 3 years.

By the way, yes, too much fluid retention can definitely cause difficulty breathing.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I don't belong to Costco so I don't get their hot dogs. I'm not a big hot dog fan but they do taste better when eating them outside for some reason. I do like to get an occasional kraut dog from der Weinerschnitzel when I'm in SoCal.

There's a man here in town that I see occasionally at Safeway for at a local restaurant. He's a large man, long gray hair, large gray beard. I would guess he's in his late 60's or so. He's always wearing a plaid flannel shirt of some kind. He wears the shirt open like a jacket and is either wearing a woman's silky blouse under it or, as he was the other night, a strapless purple sundress. There are usually dangling earrings, too. So, this confuses me. I guess he's just a cross-dresser because he's obviously not trying to look like a woman. Anyway, it's interesting.

My daughter and I are going on BART to the Orpheum in SF on Saturday. I've never been on BART before and it's been a long time since she has. We get off at the Civic Center station and there is going to be an anti-rally at the civic center that day in counterpoint to the rally some group is having in the marina district. I hope it isn't going to be a complete zoo down there but it may be. We are going a couple hours prior to the performance as we are having lunch in the city first.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Are you winning big bucks?

Dianne said...

JL, yes I did my blood test. My sodium cam back a couple of points higher. Dr said if any lower go to hospital. My potassium is low too so received a prescription tonight. I hope these meds will help with my breathing. This has really got me down. I go back for another blood test on Wednesday and dr on Friday. Boy, these potassium pills are huge.

Hmm, your man sounds a little different. Don't be flirting with him!! Sounds like fun on Saturday. I'll watch the news for you in the demonstration. What show are you going to see?

It is funny how hot dogs taste good away from home. I think so too

Barb, what are you doing?

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Chad ate most of those hot dogs. He was here for three months so he did eat them often. I think I only ate four the whole time he was here. I agree that eating them away from home they taste better. It must be the way they cook them. We mostly broiled them so they got a little crispy on the outside. I think Chad also cooked them in the microwave a few times.

So if your sodium level is low did the doctor tell you to add salt to your food? I used to have to take potassium pills and they were huge too. I try to eat a banana a few times a week hoping I won't have to take them again.

sacBarb said...

J/L, I took my Tara kitty to the vet for her annual check up and I asked them about her sneezing so much so they gave me an RX for an antihistamine. They said I could get it over the counter, but I have to be careful about the dosage, so I opted to just get it there. It was only $10 and it had really helped her a lot. I haven't heard her sneeze at all since I started her on the pills. I have to use a pill pusher to make sure she swallows it because she spits it out no matter what I wrap it in.

I hope you don't get caught up in the rally crowds on Saturday. It can get scary. What show are you going to see?

Mary/MI said...

Whew! What a week!
Vegas was fun as usual, but I didn't have much luck until the last day, but then, I didn't gamble that much. I was on a mission to find an outfit for my Grandsons wedding next month. I hate dresses, so I was looking for nice tops to go with my dressy slacks. I found two at Dillard's. A bit pricey, but bought them anyway.
I can't believe how expensive everything has gotten in Vegas. We went to a buffet and it was 35 dollars each. One night we weren't very hungry. I had a grilled cheese and Jim had soup. The bill was almost $30!.When Jim checked us out of the Venetian, he noticed they added a "convenience" fee of $40 a day. I guess for things like the pool which I never used. I had heard about the fee, so I was not surprised to see it on the bill. Jim was pissed! I didn't see any shows. The only 2 I wanted to see were "black" until
next month :(
Last night at my Karaoke gig, I got so mad, I was spitting nails!!
I had set up my equipment last Sunday night so I wouldn't have to rush around when I got back from Vegas. I pushed everything to the corner and unplugged cables and covered with large cloth. The bar owner assured me no one would bother my stuff.
Well, I got there a bit early and the bar was already full & hopping with young peeps celebrating 2 Birthdays. I went to uncover my stuff and lo and behold someone had plugged things in, uncovered my equipment and were trying to start up my computer! You need my pass word to get in. They were trying to bypass it! I looked at my screen and was horrified to see it trying to fix itself! I gave the two behind my DJ table a bit of my mind! I could not fix it! I rebooted and no luck! mind you, the place was packed and ready to dance and sing! I heard later they had been partying all day!
Anyway., I called my son Matthew and told him what happened. It was so hard to hear him with all the noise! He ran me through what to do, which involved disconnecting and reconnecting a few things. I restarted it and BAM! It was fixed! I have never been so relieved in my whole life( ok, exaggerating a bit lol).
Now, I had to survive 4 hours of drunked up kids just turning 21, on less then 3 hrs sleep!
I did my best to keep a smile on my face all night. It was a trying experience believe me! I never once took a bathroom break!
If you are wondering where Jim was all this time, well, he was passed out in bed! Our last night in Vegas, I went to bed. Jim laid down for a whole hr. I woke up to hear him going back down to gamble some more. I could not get back to sleep! We had to leave the Casino at 4:00 am to meet our flight! We slept a bit on the plane, but not very restful!
I slept in until noon today, went to our Union picnic, bought grosseries, cooked supper, and here I am blurry eyed and ready to crash!

Am I forgiven for not posting earlier lol!

Dianne said...

Hi....whew Mary. You are forgiven a thousand times. I'm sure you were very mad about your equipment. That would really make mad too. I.m glad nothing was broken when you got it up and working. Well, it sounds like you've had more fun in Vegas in the past. That's too bad you didn't get to see any shows. What were you wanting to see? I'm glad you found a couple of nice tops. I haven worn a dress on a hundred years either. You can use your tops on a cruise.
Yes, that's a lot for food. I don't care for buffets at all. We did a free one in Deadwood but only because we got it free.
Good you slept until noon. Think I would have passed on fixing dinner. You are such a good wife and mom.

We went on a lunch ride today. We ended up gone the whole afternoon. We went to a little town south of here to Buds Burgers. All they have is hamburger or cheese burgers. No fries and cash only. It's A very famous little bar. Hard to find a seat but one came open. The food was good and it come with a bag of chips, onion and pickle. CHeap too. There is a bar there too.

One of our friends in Texas had to evacuate. They live in suburb of Houston in a beautiful new home. They had to be rescued by a boat. So scary and sad. So far all my family down there is safe.

Barb, the dr told me NOT to eat salt. I'm breaking those potassium pills for in half and taking them. I just have to limit my fluid intake to the 48 oz. we shall see how Wednesday test comes out.

JL, how did Saturday work out? Didn't see you on tv or anything.

sacBarb said...

Mary, That's terrible that the bar owner didn't make sure no one messed with your equipment. I hope he apologized. They could have done some some real damage. I heard on the news that it was really hot while you were in Vegas. At least they have good A/C in every casino and store! Sorry you didn't win.

Just_Lin said...

Mary OMG, I really don't know where you get the energy. I spent Saturday in San Francisco going to lunch and a play, got a good night's sleep, and still felt exhausted all day Sunday. You are used to a lot more daily activity than I am. I certainly understand your anger about someone messing with your stuff and screwing it up. I would have been livid, too.

What's with the "convenience fee"? I've never heard of such a thing. What BS!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I'm so glad your Texas family is safe. That's so sad about your friends having to evacuate by boat. I hope they can repair whatever water damage their new home suffers.

Everything turned out fine in San Francisco where we were. The rally that everyone was dreading as it always attracts white supremacists and neo-nazis was cancelled. There was another rally in opposition to them that was scheduled to take place at the Civic Center and our play was right by there. That rally was scheduled to be about love and laughter and positive stuff and it did take place and everything was fine there. We did see a lot of groups of cops prior to when the rally was going to start and periodically saw someone with their signs heading to the plaza in front of city hall. We were inside the theater when most of the activities took place.

When I had my perforated ulcer and peritonitis resulting in emergency surgery back in '96, they gave me liquid potassium in the hospital. OMG! You definitely do not want to have it in liquid form. I can't even describe how it tastes but it's like a really nasty metallic taste that stays with you and makes all your food for the day taste like it. It was the grossest taste ever! When I was released from the hospital a week later, I had to take potassium pills for a while. Yes, they are huge and I cut them in half, too. I still found them hard to swallow and I sometimes scraped the cut edge a bit in order to round off the sharp corners.

Just_Lin said...

Barb As you now know, we went to see "Rotten Tomatoes". It was really fun and had a lot of laughs in it. You will really enjoy it. There are some numbers in it that refer to a lot of other musicals that you will recognize. It was a fun experience.

I had never taken BART before but it sure was an easy way to go to the Civic Center area of the city and perfect for going to The Orpheum. It was nice not having to look for a parking garage, especially on a day like that when a lot of people were expected to attend the rallies. Parking in the city isn't easy on the best of days.

Mary/MI said...

JustL, I envy all the shows you and Barb go to. I wish I had someone to go along with me. As I have said before, I only go to matinees because I hate looking for my car at night! Sometimes I get turned around. I go into the venue one way and sometimes come out in the opposite direction! My dialectic-ism kicks in lol!!

Barb, yest it was very hot in Vegas. I see on the news it will be even hotter this week!
I didn't realize how hot it was when I sat outside on the stairs to watch the Gondoliers. When I got home I noticed my forehead was a bit burned! All the big hotels on the strip are pulling the "airline" add on crap! They are now charging for parking in their ramps!

The bar owner stopped in for a minute when I was trying to fix my puter. She wanted to know what was going on. I told her. Last I saw, she was stomping to the bar to talk to the bartender. The idiot that messed it up did come up and apologized. It didn't mean much to me because he was pretty drunk and slobbering all over me! yuck! I finally told him I accepted his apology, just to get rid of him!
I have never had to deal with so many young drunks. Obviously they started way early!

Dianne,I would love to go on another cruise!
It looks like my friends and I will not be going on our trip to Punta Cana. They have read and heard a lot of talk about murders and kidnappings in Mexico and are afraid to go. Our travel agent told me that the warnings did not apply to where we were going. I sure don't want to go alone! We will all lose our deposits.

I have seen most shows in Vegas (that I wanted to see). I wanted to see the Beatles "Love" again and the Righteous Brothers with a replacement for Bobby Hatfield.

I am heart sick watching all the devastation in Texas! My family has checked in. I am glad yours are accounted for Dianne!

I made tortillas to make burritos tonight. My Mom would be proud at my tortilla making lol!!

Mary/MI said...

I was sure I proof read lol I meant that my "dyslectic-ism" kicked!

Just_Lin said...

Mary Your friends are confusing me. Have they looked at a map? Punta Cana is in the Dominican Republic, right? Which is in the Caribbean, right? What the hell does that have to do with Mexico? Plus, I think they need to consider the source of that information they have and the motivations behind it. Sorry, but I'm pissed off at your friends about this even if you aren't.

Dianne said...

Hi....Well, we had fun at the Lady Antebellum concert last night. There were two other good popular artists so it made for a really good show. It was outside and weather was perfect. Louis Even went and enjoyed it and he's not a country guy. Tammy and I are going to see Dierks Bently Saturday night at the same venue. As long as the weather is ok I love going there. We get good handicap seats and parking too for me. I enjoy a concert I just get stressed before we go regarding parking and getting me in but tammy is good at it.

Had to get blood tested again today and dr Friday. Lost at ww today so that was good since I gained last week.

JL, sounds like you had fun on your Saturday outing. I really like the picture of you and your daughter. You are looking good!! I remember years ago riding the Bart on a vacation there. I wish we had something like that here. Any more future Plans?.i sure hope I don't have to take liquid potassium. I am not a good drinker.

Mary, glad your family is ok in Texas too. The people we know that had to leave their new home came back today to five feet of water...everything gone. It's so darn sad. even st the concert last night they said rather than buy a tshirt, donate it to Texas.

Barb, are you still going to a full group of shows? My friend and I should look at starting that again. We were just getting bored. Frozen is here now. I wouldn't mind seeing that as I like the music. It always fun to see the little girls in the audience all dressed up too.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne It looked like you and Louis were enjoying yourself at the concert. I'm glad he enjoyed it, too, even though he's not a country guy. I'm more of a rock and roll girl, myself. I don't know why it makes you anxious to go to your music concerts as it seems you always get there fine and have great seats for viewing.

I did have a really fun day going to lunch and play with my daughter. It was a lovely day but I am not happy with that photo of the two of us. How many chins do I have, anyway? That was not the best angle to take a selfie but she wanted to get the Orpheum sign in the background. That bit outing wore me out as I was tired all the next day and found myself making really bad food choices. My body seems to think that eating would give me more energy when, in reality, what I needed was more sleep, not food.

Mary/MI said...

I went to my home town today. I had lunch with the Lady who wrote my family's book, her hubby, their son and wife and my friend Sylvia. We ate at a Mennonite restaurant. Everything is home made and delicious!
Sylvia is one of the gals going on the trip. She decided to hold off cancelling, and I may have convinced my other friend to hold off, although she had already called and cancelled. She will see if she an be reinstated. I convinced them we were NOT going to Mexico lol!

I also stopped and visited with my great nephew Tonio who is up from Tennessee with his parents for a funeral.
I took them all fresh tomatoes and red potatoes from our garden.

Zoie and I didn't get much sleep last night. About 3:00 am I heard a thump and a yell from Jim's room. I ran to see what happened. He was half way off the bed head bouncing off of the tall dresser next to the bed. He was trying to get up and yelling "let me out of here! I woke him up and said, "what the hell are you doing?" He looked at me and said "sky diving!" Well after I got done laughing and checking for damages to his head, I went back to bed. Zoie was all worked up of course and took her a while to settle down! Oye vey!
We took a short nap when I got back from my visits.
Have a great week end all!

sacBarb said...

Mary, I tried not to laugh at Jim falling our of bed, but I couldn't help it. That must been one hell of a dream! When my cats hear a loud noise outside in the middle of the night they get all keyed up, too. Then they chase each other all up and around the bed for about 20-30 minutes. I live on a dead end street and during the summer kids often go to the park at the end of the street to party. They are usually already pretty liquor-ed up and make a lot of noise walking by my house.

sacBarb said...

J/L, Was it hot at your house today? I heard SF had temps over 100 and broke records. Do you have a/c? I guess you really don't need it because of the ocean breezes you get. There is nothing to this climate change/global warming thing anyway! It's just a hoax perpetrated by China!

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Yes, I still have season tickets to our Broadway Series shows. Sharon and I have been going for 23 years and it gets more expensive each year. Each year we say we may not renew, but when we see the show schedule, there has always been at least three shows we want to see, so we just renew.

How's Kayla doing? You haven't mentioned her lately. I hope she's doing well.

Just_Lin said...

Barb No A/C here and I really don't need it as it is so unusual for me to experience really hot weather. I'm only 1 mile from the beach and can usually count on that to keep me comfortable even on really warm days. Yesterday was one of the very rare exceptions. I don't know how hot it got at my house but I believe it was somewhere in the 90's and it feels like we are in for the same today. Yesterday on the news they said it reached 109 in parts of Pacifica. That was certainly newsworthy. That must have been in a spot that is more inland and higher elevation than where my house is. I have an outside thermometer on my window that looks out on the back deck and yard and it reads 90 right now at 10:17 a.m. and that's in the shade! It's definitely going to be another hot one today. Last night I noticed I had rashes on the insides of my arms. I assume they were heat rashes. My arms are fine now.

LOL @ China, btw. I sure wish they'd knock this crap off.

Just_Lin said...

Mary You are such a busy bee that it makes me tired just reading about it. I sure wish I lived closer so I could cleverly suggest you give me some of your homegrown tomatoes. Boy, there is nothing like it. I remember as a kid I would sometimes eat a tomato at night as a snack. In those days tomatoes still tasted like tomatoes. I'll still sometimes snack on cherry tomatoes or heirloom tomatoes.

That is pretty funny about Jim falling out of bed. Boy, what an active dreamer he is! I'm surprised you stayed in that bedroom as long as you did without getting squished or flung to the far side of the room.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I'm seconding what Barb wrote. I am curious as to how Kayla is doing these days.

Mary/MI said...

LOL, JL, If Jim ever "flung me around", it would be his last act on earth! I would have retaliated with a kung foo chop lol!!
You are right about the taste and smell of new vs old tomatoes. The new one s have been altered/hybrid so much! I have been eating them pretty much at every meal incl breakfast lol!

SacBarb,Last night on his way to bed, Jim poked his head into my office and said he was going to bed and prolly skydiving! I told him not to forget his parachute this time!

Dianne, You sure love going to concerts! You go girl! George Strait is one I would love to see, and Bruno Mars :).

My body is paying me back today. I had my son til and apply top soil next to our house where it is bare and ugly. I bought 6 flowering bushes and planted them myself.
Let me tell you, digging 6 holes is tiring! I didn't want my son doing anymore work because of his bad back. Jim's breathing has been bad, so no sense in asking him! I watered them good last night and this morning. They look pretty good imo :)
I had been waiting for them to go on sale. I got each one for 5.00,plus 30% off the total. Some places wanted $35 each, and that was at half price!
I haven't moved much today except for making meals and changing bedding.
Have a great Sunday all!

Such a sad day losing one of our HOoters.

sacBarb said...

Yes, it is a very sad day. I am actually having trouble wrapping my head around the whole thing. I have been in tears off and on all day. :(

I too have been In Tears looking at her pictures on FB and talking to,louis about it. It's just such a sad day

Mary/MI said...

Our sweet Heidi has left us and I am still wondering why? I know none of us are getting out of this alive, but to die so young!

Dianne said...

Hi...well, it's Labor Day and I'm hoping you all are having a good day today. Anyone do anything fun? We went gambling with barb snd to lunch in the mountains. I lost $100 so that part of the day wasn't good. Louis lost $100 and Barb won $50. It was a fun day. Not much else going on around here. Breaking temps to 97 but going down to 70 here. It's very hazy here from the wester fires. How are things outside at your houses? It's amazing that the haze comes this far.

Tomorrow is yet another start of the week. I will be calling the new pulmonary dr for an appt. I go Friday for my echocardiogram so it's a busy week.

Mary, I too am wondering why? Much too young to have such a loss of a wonderful person.

Just_Lin said...

Hi, HOoters. I've had a very low key 3 day weekend. It has been too hot here and we aren't used to that in my area here by the ocean. Plus, there has been poor air quality due to the fires burning here in California and also in Oregon. The air has not been helpful to my asthma and the heat has kept me from sleeping well. So far, I think today will be an improvement. In short, I celebrated Labor Day by doing as little labor as possible.

Dianne said...

JL, I hope things are better for your breathing today. They are telling us not to go out with all the smoke haze here. It's amazing it comes so far. It's good you took it easy.

I called for a pulmonary appt today and first available date is October 23..,,crazy. Then I heard from them and they have a cancellation tomorrow. Now the kicker is can I get a referral from my ins that quick? My appt is for 8:30 so I guess if they don't have one I'll be turned away. I was hoping to hear back from dr today but didn't. I guess I'll just go and hope for the best.

Meeting my granddaughters for dinner. Kayla update : she's still working and has her own apartment. She's kind of seeing a couple of guys..nothing serious. She has finished her community service and only eight more classes left to finish her court ordered classs. She don't good....As far as I know!! Jake is still in jail (good) but I still don't feel overly confident about Kayla's choices. She's starts beauty school November 8. When tam and Kayla went to court a couple of weeks ago, Jake was in a blue uniform as he's a trustee now because he is such "a good prisoner". Whoopee.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, what are the court ordered cs about? I don't remember you saying anything about that.

Dianne said...

Barb, I thought I'd mentioned it but so much going on then I may not have. Kayla was driving and fell asleep and hit a parked car. She left scene and police were right there. She had taken a Zantex and tested bad for taking it. She got a dui ticket for that and in a lot of trouble. She totaled her car, lost her license for a year, 24 hours community service and classes. This was right after all the Jake shit so I can't even blame him. She was taken to detox and tammy and andy were notified that her car was in a tow lot. Since she was 18 they were not contacted. They didn't know what happened and if she was even alive. They found her and she was released. She has finished community service working at a vet place cleaning poop. She has done a full set of classes with eight left in final group. She goes every week. And then she goes in for random urine analysis (ua's) a couple of times a week. I think and pray she has learned a lesson. Her dad or mom take her to work or she has to do uber. She's learning the hard way and it cost her a lot too. She actually paid not dad. Sooo, that's that sad story. She's hoping to get her license back early since she has completed everything. We shall see. .

I went to pulmonary dr today. Very stressful as referral cam overcas I was standing there at 8:30'this morning. Gave me a chest X-ray and aanother test. I go back in a month after All The testing my primary has ordered is done...echocardiogram, Ct scan of lungs, stress test. I will also get an hour long breathing test when I go back. They had me do a long walk today to check my oxygen and he held to 92 otherwise they were going to try it with oxygen. I was glad about that and chest X-ray was good. Lots of dr appts but this shortness of breath has to have something done to help me. It's not at rest but any movement walking.

I'm full of cheerfulness today. I did lose another 4.2 pounds at ww. Three more and I'll be back where I was before prednisone. Takes forever. I'm hopping back on my exercise bike tonight. I haven't done it all summer.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Congrats on your weight loss. Last weekend and beyond was so warm here that it really made my normal edema a lot worse. Yesterday was finally cooler and I was down 3 lbs from the day before; all fluid retention.

It looks like you have a lot of medical testing coming up. Try not to stress out about it. Your oxygen level did well during your long walk.

Like Barb, I had forgotten about Kayla's accident. I'm glad she wasn't hurt and hope she learned a valuable lesson.

My brother will probably have surgery on his other knee in November like he did last year. That means I will be down in SoCal for about 3 weeks to help him out. We will be able to have Thanksgiving together again which is nice, but it also means I will be cooking. I'm not looking forward to that part although I love turkey dinners. At least the weather shouldn't be hideously hot by then.

My neighbor behind me and I both got estimates on how much it will cost to repair storm damage on our shared back fence. We've been procrastinating about that as neither of us is eager to spend the money. Anyway, we've decided to go with the estimate from my gardener. He did a really good job on my side fence and is most reasonable.

Hi gals!
I had my sweat pants and hoodie on all day! It was gloomy and rainy. We needed the rain, but hate the gloom! It is getting dark by 8:30 now. I hate that too!! LOL!
Aren't I a barrel of sunshine today!

I have been working on a nasty project. My son Matthew accidentally found a hornet's nest under a pile of hay in our wheel barrel. The hay is for the dog house. He was bitten several times! Jim peaked in and saw a huge hornets about the size of a basketball! They are the type of hornets that don't just sting once. They sting several times! I made a trap, threw in moth balls and they are still thriving! Tomorrow I am buying hornet spray foam. I will have to wait until dark when they are less active. Jim is highly allergic and Matthew is not thrilled to get bitten again!
Wish me luck!

I went shopping yesterday. I bought a few things for Raquel's baby shower this Sat.
I have to bake a green bean casserole for 40 peeps. Raquel wanted all "comfort" food! I helped my sis pay for part of the shower. I live too far away to help any other way. That's another problem! I will be driving to her home about 1 1/2 hrs from me. It is a bit complicated getting there. I hate driving that far alone, but, I did it a couple of weeks ago for the wedding shower in another direction.

Am I the only one that hates wrapping gifts? Thank goodness for gift bags!

My step son and his family live i the middle of all the fires in Montana. They have a truck and trailer packed and ready to roll with all their animals if necessary. It is so sad to see so much beautiful land go up in flames!

I hope you Cali gals can breath better air soon!

Mary/MI said...

"peeked in" geesh!

Just_Lin said...

Mary Hornets would be stinging, not biting. Be very careful in your attempts to remove that nest. Also, be careful on that drive to the baby shower. I think that's a great idea to have all comfort. I know a lot of people like green bean casserole but I'm afraid I'm not one of them.

The air here has been much better in my area in the last day or two. My daughter and her dogs are on a week long road trip up in Oregon and are running into some really bad smokey areas. I'd rather she not be up there while all those fires are burning.

Just_Lin said...

...all comfort FOOD.

Just_Lin said...

I just realized I got "69". Woo hoo!

Mary/MI said...

Woot woot on the old 69er Jl!

Well, I did it again! I got a call today for a last minute Birthday party DJ/Karaoke gig, and said yes!
I will be getting home from the baby shower just in time to pack up my gear and head out. I am so gluten for punishment!!

I made sure to add Raquel's address to my Navigator. The casserole is put together, in the frig and ready to cook in the morning. I wound up wrapping the baby gifts after all. I just don't have time to kill hornets tonight lol!

I bought grosseries and did my own nails. I have the wedding coming up and didn't want to have my nails done twice in one month.

Dianne said...

Hi everyone..ahhh, the good old 69. You were the lucky winner this times JL. The good old days. Lol.

I went to a close friends granddaughters baby shower today. There were games but we didn't have to play and I'm glad. One was they gave you an ice cube with a tiny baby in it and you had to use body heat to melt it and get the baby snd then yell out..my water broke. Glad I didn't have to play. I did win a nice travel bathroom bag in the diaper raffle. It was a long shower by the time she opened all the gifts. I'm not nuts about showers.

Mary, you really book yourself. I saw where you p

Dianne said...

Hi again....weird post but my iPad froze.

Anyway Mary, you sure book yourself. I saw where you posted your favorite singer on FB. What song does he sing? I think it's fun to listen to the singers. I loved doing that on our cruise. I don't like wrapping gifts either. I use bags except at Christmas. Louis helps me wrap then. My granddaughters used to love doing it for a few $$. Not so much any more. They are busy getting a tattoo (don't like) or doing something. It's been like that for a few years now.

Think I'll get my nails done tomorrow if there are any openings.

JL, it's nice you are able to help your brother out during his surgery. I would not be excited to cook Thanksgiving though. At least you remember how. Lol.
Is your daughter back yet? How are your smoke days going? Our haze hasn't been as bad the last couple of days.

My nephew has a condo in Florida and is very nervous right now. Plus he has a car there too. He was going to go there this week but obviously didn't go. He's hoping go go survey the damage next weekend. Its so darn scary.

Barb, haven't heard from you for awhile. Everything ok? Just checking on you. Im the nest worrier.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Here I am. Thanks for worrying about me. I'm OK, just been kinda busy and tired. I've been purging a bunch of files from when we had the Glass business. I should have done it 20 years ago. I only needed to keep them for seven years, but it was a chore I never wanted to do. I have to go through every file because I can't just throw them away. Some have names, addresses and personal information of customers, and some have my husband's and my personal information, so I have to get them shredded. I have a shredder, but it is way too much for me to do and would probably burn up my shredder. I can take it to a place and they can do it in less than an hour. Whatever it cost will be worth it.

Just_Lin said...

Hi, I'm up at Tha ass crack of dawn so I can get Turtle back to the airport. I picked her up yesterday and we went out for Mexican food and had a great night visiting. She slept on my couch as I no longer have a bed in the extra bedroom. My dog thought this was great fun to have someone here for the night. Drinking my coffee now so I can be alert to drive.

Dianne said...

Well, guess what I'm doing? Watching my favorite annual show....Miss America. I've missed it the last few years but not this year. I let it record for awhile so I can fast forward through the commercials. I like looking at ther dresses and talent. It's my guilty pleasure. These girls are so pretty. I'm glad I'm not a judge.

JL, so nice you were able to spend time with Sue. I'll bet you two had a nice visit. What time did you get up,this morning? Take a nap? I woke up much too early and planned on a nap but had nails done instead. I hope to have a good sleep tonight..I'll bet you will too.

Barb, glad to,see you. I'm used to seeing you more often. It does sound like you've been very busy doing not fun things. I would take it all to a shredding place too. Too much work when you have that much. You will feel so glad when you are all done and your kids wil thank you someday! I've been trying to downsize some too. I'm pretty good not keeping too much. I try to keep up,with it...in spurts. It's hard to get motivated sometimes. I need to get into my office....Again.. and sort. Yuck. How long do you think it will take you to get to get it all done?
Btw, how's that neighbors roof going?

Mary, how did last night go? I hope it was calm this time for you. Are you pooped today? You had a big day yesterday. Did you have fun at your shower? Did you have to play games? I was glad to opt out at my shower.

I had my echocardiogram on Friday. Of course they tell you nothing. At the end the tech decided to have an Iv with fluid for better pictures. Not my favorite as my veins do not just pop out. Oh well..one down, three to go

Well, about time for the winner to get picked. The one I chose didn't get in the last five. Chris Harrison is a host. I kerp waiting for him to give a rose. Funny. Night all. (Why do I still get alittle teary eyed when the winner is announced)? Dumb

sacBarb said...

Dianne. I wish I could just shred everything without even looking at the files. I'm not going through every piece of paper, but I do have to be a little careful because there are some I have to keep. I'm only working on this project about four hours a day. I figure I can have it done by the end of the week. I didn't do any of it today. I had two file cabinets with four drawers and two with two drawers. I have already emptied one four drawer file cabinet.

When will you get the results of the EKG? I know the technicians will never say anything, but when I had to have the pacemaker surgery, I knew the EKG was not good because of the look on her face, but when I asked her she said the doctor would give me the results. I hope your results are good.

sacBarb said...

J/L, How nice that you got to hang out with Sue, but not that you had to get up so early. I'm sure Sue appreciated your hospitality and taxi service. That had to be a tough trip, though, knowing she was going so she could say goodbye to Heidi.

sacBarb said...

Dianne2, I forgot to say the roof next door appears to be done, however looking out my kitchen window, I can see two areas under the eves where they didn't fill in holes on each corner. They are small holes, but I'm sure they shouldn't be there. I haven't seen the owner since my roof has been done, but a man has been there every day that I think is doing some other work. The owner said he was going to replace the heat/ac but I don't think that what this man is doing.

Mary, Raquel's cake was so pretty. When is her baby girl due to make an appearance? You probably told us, but my memory sucks! I bet she got a lot of cute girly things.

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, the Karaoke night went pretty good, as not that many 21 yr olds were there! The older gentleman was singing an old tune "Your Cheatin' Heart". He's so sweet! Sometimes when I sing "Me and Bobbi McGee", he jumps up and joins me. He is in his 90s. I think he takes long naps just so he can stay up and sing lol! He is usually at the American Legion Post when I am there.
I got a call yesterday asking me to so their annual Halloween party again. It is always fun. They have a huge crowd and have a costume party. I am always amazes at how many peeps dress up! Last year my son Tony won first prize. I didn't even recognize him!

SacBarb,She is due late December. I am hoping she arrives on my birthday Dec. 16 lol! The cake was delicious! Raquel did a great job de-skunking her house! Her dogs got sprayed a week before the party!

JustLin, I had no idea you had a house guest, our Turtle! I am so NOT a morning person, but i would have done it for her. You are a sweet heart!

Oh Dianne, btw, I did a couple of the games. My sis had a small baby pic of Raquel pasted on a Popsicle stick and hidden all over the yard. The one who found the most baby Raquels" , won. :( I didn't. I tried guessing the number of M&Ms in a jar and failed that too lol! The games were short and easy. I let the younger ones measure her tummy, diapers in the "corn-holes", and "The Price is Right" baby items guesses.

I made it home in time to pack up and hit the road. Jim drove to help me set up, then went home and came back to help me tear down and pack up. It's only a 15 mile drive.

Now my Great Grand daughter's first birthday party this Sunday (another long trip alone), and the wedding and Karaoke gig on the 30th. I'm trying to find someone to cover me for a couple of hrs so we don't have to rush! I known a young friend who might do it if he doesn't already have a job that night. Wish me luck!!

I am not proof ready this novel lol!!

Watching the Broncos play the LA Chargers. Sure sounds weird not saying San Diego. This is going to be a good game. Our first home game and fans are loud! Beautiful night for a game ..in the high 70's . Wish I was mobile enough to use my tickets. Anyone else watching football? I'm glad it started again.

Finally got approval for my CT Scan...now waiting to get it scheduled.

Mary, sounds like your games were better but I still don't like shower games. Heck, I don't like showers. It would be nice if you could get someone to fill in for you on wedding night. So..I'm wishing you luck. Exciting that you have a great granddaughter. I don't want my grandkids to have babies yet but hope they do when I'm still alive. Do you wear a costume for the Halloween DJ night? Maybe you and Jim could go as Adam and Eve,,,,how cute you guys would look.

JL, did you catch up on sleep yet? I think you might still be sleeping.

Barb, I had the EKG at the dr office last week and it showed my heart was fast. I haven't heard on Echo yet...maybe tomorrow as my dr was off today. Must not be bad or someone should have called me.
Boy, you are making fast progress on your sorting files. Great that you are being so dedicated. I wish I was like that more. I can think of too many excuses.

Went to lunch with my older friend today. She picks the restaurant and they keep getting closer and closer to her house. She's 87 though so I just make the 45 min drive. I just happy to see her and spend time with her. She is a young acting person for her age.

Well, time to get back to game. Half time and we are ahead by a touchdown. It's pretty fun game. I like them to not be to not be outscored on either side. Well ok, if it's Denver leading I'm ok with it. I noticed Raiders won yesterday but not San Fransisco. JL, I like your coach and GM or whatever Lynch is up there. Mary, I think Lions lost but not sure.

Night...

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, the Lions won! humpt! lol!

Barb, my high school friend has been doing a lot of shredding since her parents passed away. Her Father did taxes, he was a teacher, accountant, and more. He never threw anything away! Her Mother was also a teacher, artist, and an accomplished pianist. I think I mentioned her to you before.Their house has 4 floors with at least 4 rooms each room with at least 2 attics, all full of files, reference books, etc. She had a shredding truck come to her house 3 times! She took me through each nook and cranny , so I have seen the before and after. She still has a way to go. That would drive me over the edge lol!

Time for bed......

Dianne I got up at 4:45 because we wanted to leave for the airport at 5:30 and I wanted time to wake up and have coffee. Not too many people on the Coast Highway at that time of morning. There was a bit more traffic once we got on the freeway. I would hate to have to go to work so early on a regular basis.

Speaking of traffic: After I picked Sue up at the airport we went and had dinner in Burlingame at a favorite Mexican place. Then on the way home, while we were on the Coast Highway, I noticed way back in the traffic were some blue and red flashing light. The next time I checked the rear view mirror, the lights were closer but still a few cars back. I saw one of the cars move to the right so assumed a cop was pulling someone over. Well, a couple of seconds later, the cop car is on my bumper and using his mic to yell, "Red Prius, move to the right! Red Prius, move to the right!". At that point, I was moving to the right and thought I must be getting a ticket for something but he sped on past me. I felt bad for not being more alert and getting over sooner. If it would have been an ambulance or fire engine, I would have. I just kind of didn't know what was going on when it was a cop car.

By the way, my police lieutenant husband used to like to watch Miss America and he would shed tears when the winner cried. LOL

Mary It was nice to spend one-on-one time with Sue and get to know her better.

I don't know where you get the energy for all the running around you do. Having to get up before the sun, wiped me out for the day. I wasn't doing well yesterday, either, as my stomach felt bad for most of the day. I guess I am a delicate flower. Hahahaha!

I haven't been to a baby shower in many, many years. I guess I hang out with old people. LOL

It cracked me up that your last sentence in your comment was, "I am not proof ready this novel".

Barb Well, the finale of Bachelor in Paradise was interesting. Now next week is the start of DWTS. I don't know who most of the "stars" are. LOL

It's another warm and muggy day here today. Last night the lightning and thunder was really bothering my dog. I gave her half of a tranquilizer so at least she wasn't shaking but she insisted on being right next to me and I almost tripped over her a couple of times.

There's plenty of old paperwork here that I should sort through and discard. Maybe you will inspire me.

Sue got to have a nice long visit with Heidi, who was cracking jokes and having a good day. Apparently, it was her last "good" day so it seems that Sue timed her visit perfectly. She will always have good memories from that day.

Dianne said...

Hi....well, got my echo results and I have to monitor blood pressure for a month, go see dr in month, exercise 30 min five times a week., keep losing weight. Their concern is pulmonary hypertension issue. The nurse tells me, " it could make you short of breath." Really!!! That's why I'm doing all these tests, etc.

I haven't even looked at DWTS lineup. Guess I'd better do it.

It's so nice that Sue was able to have that visit with Heidi. Good memories.

JL, These showers are now my friends grandkids. I guess they will never end. Wow, that was an early wake-up call the other day. Too early for me too i would have been napping when I came home. You'd better watch those police cars. I would think you'd know even more than us. Lol good thing he wasn't pulling you over. ....whew!!!

Mary, I see you had your hair done today...so did I. Boy, was I glad to get rid of the grey. Expensive week though...hair and nails.

Barb, how's the shredding thing going? Are you going to be done tomorrow? Boy, will you ever feel a relief.

W are gong to a friend's bronco party on Sunday. I like to go to those... expecially if we could win. Btw mary, I heard your lions did win your game. Congratulations.

sacBarb said...

J/L, Did Sue only get to see Heidi that one day? I think I read that Jodi went to see Heidi the day after Sue saw her, but she was asleep. I'm so glad Sue got to spend that time with her. Did Sue get to see Kim and Jodi also?

I am so tired of going through files, but I did come across a few things that were buried and I'm glad I found. I had a lot of work stuff in addition to the Glass Shop stuff that I could just dump without hardly looking at them. I have a lot of tax returns and I have to call my tax guy to ask if I could dump them. He told me once that I should keep them even if it's beyond the mandatory time frame, but I can't remember why. I've got the four drawer and one two drawer file mostly done, however, now that I'm on a roll, I've decided to go through some other places where there is a lot of paper crap. I have a desk in each spare bedroom that I'm going to clean out. I don't think there is anything in either of them that needs to be shredded, so it should go quicker.

sacBarb said...

Mary, Wow. I thought I had a lot to shred, but your friend beat me by far. I wonder how much it cost to have a truck come to her house? I think I'll ask Google if we have anything like that here. It would sure be easier than lugging a bunch of bags to my car.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I will be done tomorrow with the initial shredding batch. I found my marriage certificate in the Social Security file, where I must have put it when they returned it to me. I had to send the original in when my Hubby died, so I could get that whopping death benefit check ($255.00) and I must have just put it in there without thinking. I have a file for all the certificates, birth, baptism, first communion, confirmation, graduation, etc. Good thing I haven't needed it.

Dianne said...

Barb, my daughter has a bin and the truck comes for $40 when it's full. You for sure might want to check. You are for sure on a roll. Keep it up as once you stop (sigh) it's hard to get going again.

JL. Has a Barb inspired you yet?

Just_Lin said...

Dianne No, I'm afraid I have not been inspired to start going through old paperwork. LOL I will think about it and procrastinate for a while longer.

My 46 year old son has very bad asthma. At this point they tell him his lungs are working at 26% capacity. They took blood from him recently from the artery in this wrist. Not his vein, his artery. They had to slowly push the needle straight down into the inside of his wrist in order to check the oxygen level in the blood. Yikes! He has pulmonary hypertension and is on 4 different blood pressure pills. Because he has such bad asthma, he is on permanent disability.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Apparently, Sue got to see Heidi on Heidi's last good day. It seems she started slipping away the following day. During the last week of Sue's visit, she and her mother met Kim and Jodi for lunch at a place that is about the same distance away for each of them. She had another visit with Kim, too, that Jodi couldn't attend as she had to work.

I'm getting my back fence repaired (finally) on Monday. That's the fence that had the most storm damage. Once that gets fixed, I'll see about spending more money to fix the side fence that also has some storm damage. House maintenance just never ends, does it?

Just_Lin said...

Mary Where for art thou?

sacBarb said...

J/L, Agreed, house maintenance never ends. My carpets really need cleaning, and they also need stretching, There are quite a few places where they have buckled, but I think I want to just remove them. That poses a few problems, though. The floor under the carpets has vinyl parquet squares that are really ugly. I would like to replace it with either hard wood (very expensive) or laminate (a little less expensive). Also, the poolroom has bare concrete under the rug and mat and it took four hunky men to carry all the pieces into the house. They put it together in the room and it took about six hours. That alone will cost a small fortune. I have almost spent all of the money I received from my FIL's estate, so if I do the floors, that means payments and I'm not too excited about that. So I'm really going to have to think about it for a little longer.

sacBarb said...

I meant to say "all the pieces of the pool table"

Dianne said...

Well
, I'm hoarse from the game. We went to a bronco party and beat the Cowboys big time!! So fun when we win and others to celebrate with too. I see those Raiders won again. All our old friends came today and we hadn't seen one couple do to health reasons since NEw Years Eve.

Barb, wow that sounds like a lot of work to change carpet. I'd like new too but too much work to pack things up so just get it cleaned. We went to movie called Home Again with a Reece Witherspoon. It was so darn cute and good ending. So nice to finally have a good movie out. There were a lot of good coming attractions too....again..finally. Go see the movie if you get a chance.

JL, that's sad and interesting about your son. Ouch on that needle. I felt the pain just reading your description!! Is his disability because of the hypertension? It's so scary not breathing. We went to my grandsons game Friday night and the walk was just too much for me. I brought a walker with wheels and still couldn't breath. Louis ended up pushing me on the walker. I was in tears by the end of the push. I feel like such a burden and maybe I shouldn't go to things. I'm so frustrated. I need to be grateful that I can walk as it could be so much worse but I was feeling miserable about the whole thing.

Mary, missing you!!!

Dianne said...

Congrats Mary....your team played good tonight. They were talking Super Bowl on tv....of course, so are the Broncos. Lol.

Not much new. Went to lunch with my aunt today. She took the day off so we could go and spend done time visiting. Came home and took a nap. Ho hum.

Called to schedule stress test and after talking they realized the one ordered was nuclear with the treadmill. There's no way I could do it I'd have to test every few minutes. They are getting anew order. Nothing is ever right.

What are you all up to this week? Louis turns 70 on Friday. We are having a little dinner in Thursday night for him.

I made reservations for a train ride Saturday to see fall colors. It's pretty far into the mountains so hope it's not snowing. We are expecting a cool weekend here.

That's it....night

Here I am !
As you know by now, we went to my Great Grand daughter's 1st Birthday party. It was an hrs drive. Jim missed our exit and were late, not because we missed the exit, but because Jim was stubborn and would not take my phone's map-quest directions! It said to turn left after exiting, he turned right! I didn't even try to argue with him. I just let it play out. After an eternity of weird turns, he finally had to listen to my phone to get back to the exit and go the opposite direction! Men!!
My Gr Granddaughter,Everleigh Rose, was a bit grouchy with so many people around. I am one to not push myself onto babies until they are comfortable with me, so I kept my distance for a while. Before leaving Everleigh's mom asked me to pose with her. I almost declined, afraid to upset her. I finally went to her and started talking to her like I do to Zoie lol! She smiled a big smile and looked me in the eye as if to say," I love that you waited and I love you". Melted my heart! That is the pic you saw on my wall.

This week looks pretty quiet except for Zoie's annual Vet visit on Fri.

I felt like baking yesterday so I made an apple pie. I saw a new/different pie crust recipe online and decided to try it. It seemed a bit weird to add salt, sugar, milk, butter and baking power to flour, instead of just Crisco, salt and water. After I put the pie in the oven, I double checked my crust recipe. It was a crust for quiche!
The apples were great, but the crust was a bit bread like on the edges. I guess I am not so good at directions
instructions either lol!!

Dianne,Yes. our Lions won! Super Bowl talk is a bit far fetched, but better than what we have been hearing all these years lol!

SacBarb,Wow, I am glad you found your marriage license! We keep the original in my safety deposit box at the bank, and a copy in a safe at home. You had me confused for a minute. I thought you had 4 hunky men lifting pieces of your carpet into your house lol!

Justlin, I cringed when you described your son's procedure! I have donated so many times that my veins have rolled a bit and getting harder to get to. I keep getting messages from the Red Cross for me to donate again, but I am thinking twice about it. I made need my veins and blood for myself someday lol!!

Ok Dianne, I wrote another novel lol! You didn't even come and help me make those enchiladas!

Dianne said...

Mary, I wanted to come and eat those enchiladas!! You didn't set a place for me. Thanks for coming in blog. I've been talking to myself. I love your great granddaughters name. It is so pretty. Loved the picture too. You are good that you don't say anything about jims lack of directions. I can't keep,my mouth shut when we go wrong and I know it, although it doesn't happen often with our gps

Louis does blood a lot but he has good veins. I have bad ones. I went to lunch with tammy today and grocery store...that was my big day. Just ww and lunch tomorrow. My CT Scan is Thursday.

Mary, hmm, interesting crust for pie. Lol.

Just_Lin said...

Barb The repairs on my back fence were completed yesterday so that's good. Now I have to replace a long section of a side fence. I'm not looking forward to that as it will be more expensive than the one that just gone done.

It's funny that you are considering taking out your carpet and putting in a hardwood floor because I occasionally consider covering up my hardwood floor with carpet. That's because the floor is now in pretty bad shape due to so many years of wear and tear. Like my crappy sofa, I just put up with it and spend money on other things, most often, traveling. LOL

I have always really wanted to see The Book of Mormon and I got an email recently that it was coming back to the Orpheum in SF for one month only and they were having a pre-sale until the following night. I immediately called my daughter to see if I could get her to go with me and she said she had already purchased two tickets. Yay! I'm really looking forward to it. The performance is in late February so I have to wait a while.

Just_Lin said...

Mary LOL @ your pie crust. Sometimes you should just stick with what you know. I bet you could make pie crust in your sleep. I used to make tasty apple turnovers with hard sauce when my kids were little. I always felt to proud of myself as they always turned out good. I grew up with a mom that always made homemade pies, cakes, and cookies. I was lucky to have a stay at home mother which I wasn't able to do.

I wouldn't have had the patience with Jim to just let him keep on getting more lost. You've been together a lot of years so I'm sure you know how to "handle" him. None of us is perfect, right? I'm not perfect but I'm usually right. LOL

The photo of you talking to Everleigh Rose is so sweet. That's a very pretty name. The little 2 year old that lives across the street from me is named Autumn Rose. I like that, too.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Your train ride to see fall colors sounds like a lovely way to spend the day. I miss doing day trip type stuff but I don't really have anyone to do it with. I have signed up for another couple of painting classes and also a class in making paper collages. I'm looking forward to those. I will miss a couple of classes that are offered because I will be down at my brothers for 3 weeks beginning in mid-November to help him out after his surgery.

I feel bad that you feel bad about your mobility issues. You are such a lovely person and no one would ever, ever think of you as a burden. I hope your tests give you some answers so they can provide proper treatment.

My son is on permanent disability because his asthma is so extremely bad. He was in the ER again a couple weeks ago because he couldn't get his asthma under control in spite of all the inhalers and breathing treatment machine he has at home.

I'm not into watching the 49er games. I guess I'm a fair weather fan.

sacBarb said...

J/L, Have you looked into getting your wood floors refinished? A friend had that done and they turned out beautifully. They were in pretty bad shape, with scratches and the finish almost worn off in many places. I don't know how much it cost her, but she said it was a lot cheaper than carpeting over them.

Book of Mormon is on our schedule this season. We have seen it once and we liked it a lot. I think you will like it, too.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I agree with J/L, no one would ever think of you as a burden. People don't volunteer to help other people unless they want to. I hope you can get some answers from the doctor that will help your mobility.

Todd and Vicki are finally coming up on Friday to get my old car. Tomorrow I have to take it to get washed because it has been parked on the street in front of my house for almost three months. It is so dirty that I am going to have to wash the windshield first because I can't see out of it to drive! That's no exaggeration! LOL

sacBarb said...

Mary, Everleigh Rose so a real cutie and I love the pic of you and her. Rose is a popular middle name, my cousin's one year old baby's name is Amber Rose. If I had a baby girl, I would probably have used Rose for a middle name also because it was my Mom's name.

sacBarb said...

I hear crickets in here! I don't have anything to report, I am just checking in. I hope everyone is OK.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Here I am. I have nothing to report, either. I live a boring life. I'm trying to let my hair grow longer and that is becoming a challenge. It's very difficult to style right now. Thank goodness for hairspray so I can spray it into submission.

The other day I had just stepped out onto my back deck when there was a bit of a ruckus next door and their young dog started barking excitedly. Well, the neighbors (who weren't at home) had a large square umbrella set up on their deck with table and chairs under it. It's the kind of umbrella with 4 legs that you might set up at a picnic or on the beach. Anyway, although it was a beautiful calm day, a random gust of wind came up and lifted the umbrella so it was now sitting on the roof of their house, one leg collapsed. It looked like a big, blue alien on their house. Every time the breeze picked up, the canvass rustled and the legs scraped a bit on the roof shingles. The poor dog was just besides himself over the situation so I talked to it for a while and it finally calmed down but it stayed down in the yard and didn't come back up to the deck. Can't trust blue aliens. LOL

Mary/MI said...

JustLin, LOL, @ blue aliens!! I am sure pink ones would be less intimidating lol!!
Zoie would go nuts until the noise stopped!

SacBarb, I think JL should send her neighbor's alien to locate your cricket!

This morning I took Zoie for her yearly check up and shots. We were out of heart worm tablets. My bill was $215.00! Did I mention I bought Zoie toothpaste and chew stuff?
I don't remember my kids physicals being that expensive lol!

I had a DDS appt. in the afternoon. I guess I need to have a tiny cavity filled :(.
I bought some grosseries and went home. The guys wanted pizza, so I ordered that.

Sad news. Raquel just found out she has gestational diabetes. She is so upset! Her mom had it with at least one of her girls. I think it was Jaimie.
Keep her in your thoughts and prayers please!

I started reading a book a few days ago and almost done with it. I hate finishing books lol! I mostly read biographies and auto biographies. I am in the middle of at least 3 or 4 lol!II found 2 very cheap at B&N. I am just finishing Tom Jones's book. I didn't think I would find it very interesting, but I was wrong! I couldn't put it down! I love anything to do with the music industry and see how the stars started.
Tom was quite the drinker and scrapper growing up in the poor section of Whales.
Burt Reynolds is next. I have yet to finish "Lust for Life, about Van Gogh, and Mick Jagger, of the Rolling Stones. Mick was waaaay nuts lol!!

Just_Lin said...

Mary I'm sorry to hear about Raquel's gestational diabetes. I'm sure she'll take good care of herself and get through this with flying colors. I think this happens a lot more often than we know. I'll be keeping her in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't know how you can read more than one book at a time. One of the best biographies I ever read is Raven, the story of Jim Jones and the People's Temple. It was written by Tim Reiterman who was a journalist for a San Francisco paper and accompanied Congressman Leo Ryan on that fateful trip to Jonestown in Guyana. It's a very interesting book that explores Jones' childhood and background right up through the tragedy at Jonestown.

BTW, did you ever see the movie version of Lust for Life starring Kirk Douglas?

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, Yes, I have seen it several times! I will look for that book. Thanks for the info!
Thanks, I will be sure to tell Raquel what you said :)
Heading to bed. Have a great week end everyone!!

sacBarb said...

Mary, I am so sorry to hear about Raquel. I don't know anyone who has had that during pregnancy, but I seem to hear about it more often lately. I, too, will keep Raquel in my prayers. I will often start a book when I am already reading another one. It's usually because I am bored with the first one.

sacBarb said...

J/L, That must have been a fierce gust of wind to blow the umbrella up on the roof. The poor dog just doesn't know how to handle aliens! LOL

I just got a text from Todd with a link to Lyft and his trip from the airport to my house. It's kinda cool to watch the little car on I80 and turn onto 50 headed this way. He will be here in about 10 minutes. :)

Dianne said...

Barb, have fun with your son and dil. I don't get to see mine as often as I would like to with their schedules. We went to homecoming football game tonight for my grandson and they won 37-0 plus I got to to see my three grandsons and even meet a girlfriend plus see my son and wife. I miss them being around them. I would like them to be more. Did you get the car washed? How long will they be able to stay? Have a great time visiting.

JL, I've seen the Book Of Mormon and I'll be interested to see what you think of it. It's pretty funny and different...that's all I'll say. How is your son feeling? That's scary not being able to breath. I hope he's feeling better. Glad you signed up for more classes. Wished we lived near each other.....I'd have you out of the house more than you'd like probably. How long are you going to let your hair grow to now? I think it already looks really nice. Crazy about the dog and umbrella. I'll bet your neighbors were surprised when they came home.

Mary, sorry about Raquel. My stepdaughter had that when she was pregnant the first time and then it went away and never came back. She had two more kids and it didn't show up. Think she'll be fine...just follow Dr orders. I will put her in my prayers. I don't know how you can read more than one book at a time. I would get them mixed up. I do like to read as but I go in spurts. I especially like to read on vacation.....speaking of....are you still going? When?.

Took a good friend to lunch for her bday today. It was a fun lunch. Our weather is getting cooler although broke a high record yesterday. The weekend is supposed be pretty fall chilly. It was cool at the game tonight...jacket weather.

Dianne said...

JL and Barb, thank you so much for kind words. I hope the drs are able to help me. I just would really like to get around without needing help and using devices to help me ....but I will as I'm not going to let it keep me home. It does limit me a lot though.

I had a horrible day yesterday. I Went for my ct Scan At 10am and got home at 1:15 and it was five minutes from here. Four people tried to find a vein for an Iv for contrast. I ended up getting stuck eight..8....times between both arms and they never found one. I have to go to another place on Monday to try again. They even used an ultrasound to locate a vein and it didn't work. The first guy thought he had a vein and put the contrast in my arm. It didn't go where it was supposed to go so it was a no good X-ray. Now I have the contrast in my upper arm and it hurts. They couldn't try on that side anymore because of that. They told me to elevate and Ice and it would get swollen. If it got red go to ER. Crazy and it did swell and still hurts troday. Not red though. So I have 90 ccs of contrast in my upper arm. My arms are bruised horrible......really big ones. Can't wait to go again Monday and then my stress test (need another Iv) is Friday. I'm scared now.

We took louis out for his 70th bday dinner last night. There were 8 of us and he wanted to go to Red Lobster...not my favorite but his choice. Didn't want a party or anything. We had big balloons and the two granddaughters were there. I think louis really enjoyed his evening Tomorrow we are off to our train ride to see the fall colors and maybe snow!

Just_Lin said...

Remember that 3 bedroom, one bath house a couple of blocks away that was in horrible shape with no roof tiles and painted outlandish, ugly colors with a purple driveway? Well, it had been on the market back in March for $625,000 and actually sold for $715,000. It's now been fixed up and has normal colors and normal driveway. It was put back on the market at $808,000 and there is currently a sale pending for $875,000. Crazy!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I am sooooo sorry about your horrible time with them trying to get in a vein. I am lucky that I have a really good big one on the inside of my right elbow. I remember when I was in labor with my first and some newbie kept trying to get a catheter into the top of my left hand and failed, and failed, over and over again. I don't recall how many times she tried but when I started crying, she got someone else who did it on first try.

Mary/MI said...

JustLin, I wonder if whoever buys that house will upgrade it some more and sell it for a million lol!

Dianne, Sounds liek Louis had a great Birthday. You were a trooper to take him where you don't like to go lol1
Sorry about your sucky vein stabber!I can still see mine, so hopefully I won't ever have to go through that! When it comes to getting blood drawn I usually tell them to please get me someone with experience, and not a newbie!

We had a lazy dinner tonight. Hot dogs, Brats and home made FF ( in the deep fryer not homemade potatoes).
I washed all the bedding including the comforters.
It has been ungodly hot in Michigan! It has been in the mid 90s. We got each of the dogs their own kiddie pools a while back. We filled them up and let them cool off after our walks. Jim likes to leave the water in them overnight. I sneak out there and empty them out. I hate to give "skeeter" a place to breed! We have had 4 west Nile outbreaks here. I take no chances!

sacBarb said...

Dianne, How horrible that you had to go through all that and they still couldn't get it done. It shouldn't have taken that many to decide they couldn't do it. It's almost like they like to torture people! I will pray that Monday goes much better.

I LOL'd when you wrote on FB about Louis' birthday that 70 is like the new 50. If only that were true!

sacBarb said...

J/L, Funny that you should mention that house. I was purging more crap yesterday and I came across some pics with a house that was painted crazy colors. It used to be down the street and for some reason one of my kids took a couple of pics of it. I had forgotten all about that house. The pic reminded me of the house you described on your walk and I was going to ask about it. So, the pending sale is for $160,000 more than they paid. I wonder how much it cost to do all the remodeling? Regardless, they are going to make money. I bet the neighbors are glad it's back to normal house colors!

sacBarb said...

Mary, I check the yard regularly for water puddles because we have had three cases of west nile fever here, too. I have a cousin in New York that had it and she has had severe after affects from it. The worst was having to have a tracheotomy because she had some kind of attack that affected her breathing. The trach ended up having to be permanent. She is in very bad shape.

sacBarb said...

So, Todd and Vicki and I went to breakfast at the little restaurant by my house and they left with their Saturn after we got home. They should be close to home by now. I was sad to see it go, but happy that they will be driving it. I know they will take care of it. I sold the car I had before this last one, to Sheenah, my manicurist, for one of her boys and he didn't take care of it at all. I saw it one day and there was a big hole in one of the doors. I know it wasn't mine anymore and I had no right to care what happened to it, but I silently said "I'm sorry" to the car as I passed by it. I never said anything to Sheenah, though.

Mary/MI said...

Sac Barb, I know how you feel about your old car :(. I have had 3 Jeeps and know for a fact they are all in tip top shape :) Matthew has one and my Grandson has the other. I "visited" that one when we went to Everleigh's birthday party lol! Logan takes real good care of it.
How sad about your cousin. Jim kind of laughs at me when I worry about water around the yard, like the pools. I will mention your cousin's sad illness.
I will do the water "dumping" again tonight lol!

It is unmercifully hot today! I like to sit in my rocker patio chair with Zoie at least once a day, even in the winter. I forget the chair has metal arms and I got a nice burn when I put my arms on it! The patio door handle was not fun to open either!
I know it will be winter soon, so mums the word on the heat lol!!

Dianne said...

Hi..We had a great train ride. It was so pretty with the colors and then on top of mountain it started snowing. We were in an inside car but no doors and it got freezing. We were dressed warm but still freezing. By the time we got back to car temp was down to 37....brrr. Drive home was not fun. We had dinner and then snow started and turned to hard rain and fog. Glad I wasn't driving...scary.

Mary, maybe you will get our cold front. We will have it all week. Only 49 here updated and raining. We had to turn our heat on today. You are lucky to have a good vein. Btw, we lost to buffalo today. Darn. Too many turnovers.

Barb, thank you a lot for the prayers. I think I'll need them. Terrible about your cousin. So sorry.

JL, keep that elbow vein. My arms look ridiculous. I look like I have tattoos. Wow, your purple house must be really nice now. It would be fun to go see the inside. That sale price makes a nice comp for your house value.

Well, that's about it. Hope you're all doing good. Cool off Mary...too hot for September

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Your train ride sounds really charming but I wouldn't have wanted to end up cold, either. It sounds like you needed to have a blanket with you.

It sounds like Louis had a very nice birthday dinner. I like Red Lobster okay. I really like their biscuits but only allow myself to have one.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Ouch! at putting your arm down on that hot metal arm. That made me jump a little when I read it. LOL People don't think about it but when it's really hot you have to be careful about letting dogs walk on pavement as they can burn their paw pads. It rarely gets that hot here but it did several weekends ago when we had our big heatwave.

I've never felt an emotional connection to a car. Then again, I never sold or gave one away to someone that would be driving it around locally where I would see it on occasion. I don't name my cars, either, so maybe that's part of it.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Breaking news: I've ordered my Christmas cards. I'm hoping to get them all addressed during October so I won't feel pressed for time after I get back from my brother's in early December. But you know what they say about best laid plans.....

DTWS is on tonight. I didn't bother voting last week. Two or three of them were quite good.

Dianne said...

JL, you are ahead of me. Haven't recd the catalog to order yet. I'd better check online. We should have Brought a blanket. Nice warm ones in gift shop after trip. It was very cold. In the low 50's today. Feels good.

Guess what .??? NURSE FOUND A VEIN SECOND TIME. I was so happy a tear of joy slipped out. They were so nice and gave me information to tell the nurse on Friday when I have stress test. Thanks for prayers and good wishes. It meant a lot.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Yay! So glad it went much smoother for you today. You must be so relieved to have that out of the way. Too bad you can't have that nurse every time they need to get into a vein.

It's beautiful here today; about 70.

Dianne said...

JL, I wish I could take her to stress test on Friday.

Brr here. Chilly and rainy again

Barb, how are you liking your car?

Dianne said...

Ok JL .i ordered my Christmas cards tonight. Thanks for the push.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I'm really liking my car. I have read some of the manual so I know how to work the basic things. I have Sirius Radio and some of the stations were already set by the former owner and two of them are oldies stations so I listen to them most of the time. These stations are what I call the real oldies -50s & 60s - not what the stations now call the oldies -80s & 90s! I didn't really want leather seats and this car has them, but it also has seat warmers so it won't be so bad in the winter. That's why I didn't want leather seats, cloth seats are warmer.

sacBarb said...

J/L, I have never named any of my cars either, however the car I just gave to Todd has OnStar and I have used it many times for directions which are voiced by a sexy man's voice, so I named him George Clooney. Whenever he gave me a direction, I would always say "Thank you, George Clooney."

I voted for Victoria, Vanessa, and Jordan. Hopefully they will remain on DWTS for next week. I wonder if Terrell will go home tomorrow night. He was much better tonight.

sacBarb said...

Mary, We had some nice mild weather last week and the week before, so I thought we were moving into fall nicely. Guess I was wrong, because it was 90 today and the weather people said it's going to get hotter every day and by the weekend it will be in the 100's. I don't mind warm weather, but that's too hot. I do feel fortunate that I don't live in Arizona, however. I talked to Kathy today and she said it was cooling down in Phoenix and she is happy about that. She said for the past few years the summers have been hotter than the year before. They had some days this year where it was 120! YIKES!!

Barb I totally forgot to vote! As soon as the show was over, my dog needed to go out for the final time of the night so I took her out front on a leash in case the neighborhood skunk was around. I then came back inside and watched Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon which I had been recording while we were watching DWTS. My brain is a sieve. I can't retain a thought longer than one minute.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Hopefully, I won't procrastinate about addressing my cards once I have them. I could never make my own like Barb does. If I did, they'd probably only be ready to send once every 5 years.

Mary/MI said...

Hi gals!!

Justlin, We live in the boonies with no cement for Zoie to walk on. We have a nice trail with a lot of shade trees. It helps that we live next to a tree farm :). I took Zoie for a walk tonight. The Vet wants her to lose a couple of pounds. I think she meant me, and more than " a couple lbs" lol!!

Dianne. It was a bit cooler today. I see that we will be getting higher temps next week, but only in the 80s. I can take that, especially when I know what is coming!
This is the week end of my Grandson's wedding and DJ/karaoke job on the same day!It will be interesting to see how I manage it lol! I prolly won't be staying very long at the reception. It is over an hr drive so I will be zipping along! I have tried to find someone to at least cover me for a couple of hrs, but so far no luck :(

Barb,I swear Zoie knows when the end of a show is about over! It never fails that she has to go out about that time!
I really don't know how Kathy takes all that heat! I like our 4 seasons. I also like that I don't live where there are hurricanes, large forest fires, earthquakes,or landslides! We do have snow storms and a tornado now and then. I guess we all manage to survive lol! I think my ideal place in U.S.A, would be where you live Barb. I would love to live near the ocean!

I made a baked chicken with dressing, taters and fresh corn on the cob. I took the carcass and made a broth for noodles later in the week end.

I went to my eye specialist this morning. I get checked for Glaucoma. It was a tiny bit high, but I am good until next Jan. Prolly during a snow storm lol!

Just_Lin said...

Mary Well, Barb lives in the city that is our state capitol and it is NOT on the ocean. It does get warm there and you would like that. I am on the ocean and our weather is mild and sometimes, especially in late summer, we can get fog along the coast because of the ocean. Maybe you could have a home in both places and have the best of both worlds.

I need to walk my dog more as it would certainly help me lose weight and she would enjoy it. I momentarily lost my dog for about 30-40 minutes the other day. I had gone to the store and took a couple trips from car to house, bringing in groceries. I put groceries away and then got lost on the computer for a while. I realized I hadn't seen the dog in a while and started checking the usual places in the house. No dog. Double checked outside in case I had accidentally locked her out, checked in the garage. At that point I was calling her name and starting to feel the beginnings of panic. Then I recalled putting the large packages of toilet paper and paper towels on shelves in the back room. Sure enough, there she was. She had followed me in there and I had left, closing the door behind me. She's such a good girl. She had just remained in there quietly, probably wondering why she was in detention. LOL

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, I keep forgetting who lives where! I am dyslectic in every way possible. That's my story ans I am sticking to it lol!!!
I have accidentally closed the door with Zoie behind it. She will be quiet for about 10 sec. and then start her yipping. When I let her out, she lurches at me in her silly anger! Kind of funny!

I got Jim to help me wash windows today. It was cool & cloudy when we started , then the sun came out and it got hot. I take my time doing the window buy Jim's chair commenting and showing him the dark brown cigarette tar/goop on the paper towel. Never helps :( He was so out of breath washing windows, that I almost felt sorry for him. He sat down and lit up!

Ok, I will leave this on a good note..
It's not snowing ...:)

Dianne said...

Hi...Mary. It's snowing in our mtns. Hopefully it will warm up tomorrow. We do have the heat on. That's good Jim washes windows. I need to get mine done. You notice how I say...get them done? It's been awhile. Have a fun time at the wedding Saturday. Hope you found someone to help you out so you can stay longer.

Barb, whew your weather is going to be too hot for me. I'd rather it be cool. I too don t know how kathy stands the heat. She said sometimes it's too hot to stand on pavement. My air conditioner bill would be terrible. You're listening to the same stations Louis listens to. He loves the sixties on six. I get tired of it especially since I'm a country music gal. I have to admit that I do know all the songs on his station. I don't like when Cousin Brucie is on. Have you heard him?

JL, scary moment thinking you lost your dog. Glad you found her. Funny after you find her. I think I would like where you live by the ocean but not the fog too much of you have to drive in it. I'll bet it's so pretty there and you are so close to go to the ocean and close to SF.

Well, tomorrow is my stress test. I only hope they can find a vein right off. Im a little Nervous about the whole procedure. I wish I was done with it. We leave early sat am to go meet my Texas cousins for the weekend...looking forward to it.

Dianne said...

Happy day...they found a vein first try today for stress test. That is quite a lot of tests for three hours. Won't know results until next week sometime. I'm so glad needles are done with now. All I have left is an hour long breathing test in a couple of weeks...no needles.

Hope you are all ok.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Oh, I'm so happy for you that you had an easy time with the needle yesterday. What a relief! It was probably enough of a stress test just worrying about if they'd get into the vein or not. LOL

I was disappointed yesterday that my favorite place to get pot stickers has changed ownership. It's a little take-out place at the other end of town and I'd occasionally pop in there when I'd get a craving for their pot stickers. So last night I got pot stickers and won ton soup to bring home. It was okay but it's not great like the other ones were. There's a fancy Chinese restaurant in the same shopping center and even their pot stickers are not as good as the ones that used to be made at the little take out place. I'm so bummed. Change isn't always good.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I kind of had to laugh at Jim being out of breath and then lighting up. I know it doesn't make sense but I used to feel like smoking a cigarette actually opened up my bronchial tubes. I think maybe it makes them relax when they are tightening up. Of course, it's still doing damage to the lungs, though.

I don't have a GPS system in my car but I do have it available on my phone and I love it for when I'm traveling to new or unfamiliar places. It's so much easier and safer than trying to read an old fashioned map and driving at the same time.

One thing about the San Francisco Bay Area is that we have a lot of different micro-climates happening at the same time. If I don't like the weather here, all I have to do is go over the hill and find something completely different. Yesterday was overcast and gray and today there are beautiful blue skies.

Just_Lin said...

Barb That's the thing I miss most about my husband's Town Car; the heated seats. That was really, really nice on a frigid or rainy day. I especially liked how the warmth felt on my back.

My hair is now at a length where I'm not sure what to do with it so I'm just trying to force it to be some kind of style. It's so awkward right now. Normally, I would have gotten my hair dyed last Thursday but I'm stretching the time out until Tuesday. I will have to make it 4 1/2 weeks again between dye jobs next time, too, so that I have covered roots when I go down to my brother's for 3 weeks in mid November.

Mary/MI said...

JL, you sound like me. I have to check the calendar to make sure my hair appmts. coin-side with things going on lol! Nails too!

The wedding was beautiful. My Grandson's bride was breathtaking in her wedding dress. I saw Logan wipe away tears when he saw her come down the isle. They took so long taking pictures, that we were unable to stay for the meal because we had to get back to my DJ job. I glanced at the food on the way out. Sure looked good :(. We stopped at McDs on the way home lol!
Can you believe I had the same problem with my equipment as I did a few weeks ago!! Nothing was working! It was working fine when we left earlier! Come to find out they had moved my stuff out of the way to take pictures! Mind you, it is a very big building and all kinds of room for picture taking! Some guy brought his own cd that he had made and from I gather, he tried to use my puter to play it Ugh! It took me forever to get it working right! I couldn't play any of the music in the file I made especially for them. I tried Karaoke and that has never let me down, yup, that was messed up too! I must have rebooted and rechecked my cables a dozen times! I think something must have gotten disconnected when they moved things around. Well, I finally got everything going. To make things worse, I had to deal with bees flying around! They must of built a nest in the walls and didn't like my music, cuz they were everywhere! One time I was getting to reboot and luckily I saw the bee on the button I was about to push on! What a night!! I did have them deduct $50 from my earnings since they had nothing for an hour. I know it wasn't my fault, but I felt bad about letting them down. Not good for PR.

In all my rushing around, I forgot to leave my wedding gift at the venue! oye vey!! I will mail it out tomorrow! I am glad Sept. is over lol! So far I only have Halloween to do. I will not set up early!

Diane. Yay on their finding your vein right away! Not the kind of "poking" I would enjoy either lol!! I used to have an awesome place to get Lemon chicken. It too was in a small building and went someplace else. I have yet to find anything even close to what they used to make. :(

Barb, I love my Siriuss! I have mine set to classical, smooth listening, blues, Beatles, Elvis, and 60s,70s, and country. I need the classical when I am "stress driving", especially in the winter. Mostly I do the 60s.

I think Zoie and I will take a nap. I have steak cubes in broth on slow cook for making beef stroganoff later.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I have not listened to that 60s channel. I'm still learning how to use sirius. The channels I listen to are the ones that have already been set by the previous owner. I haven't been in the car for a long enough period of time to really study how to navigate sirius. I need to just sit in the car and play with all the controls. One of the preset stations is a country station and I listen to it and the 60s mostly.

That Broncos vs Raiders game today was a good game. It's too bad the Raiders didn't win. But, congratz to your Broncos.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I live about two hours from the ocean, but I do have a river right across the street from my house. My kids loved going down there when they were growing up. My oldest is a serious fisherman and he just got a boat so he can go after the "big" ones. LOL

sacBarb said...

J/L, We had a really good Chinese restaurant in the same shopping center where we ate when you and Lynn were here and it also changed hands. I went to the new place for dinner with a friend and we were both very disappointed. My Vet is also in the same center and I took the cats for their annual check-up and noticed the signs were all down in the Chinese restaurant. I don't think it was even open a year. The other place was there for over 20 years.

I have been wanting to do something different with my hair, but I don't know what. I talked to my hairdresser about it and he said it it too thin to wear it longer so I guess I'll just keep it this way.

Dianne said...

Hi...
Barb, thanks for the congrat. It was a pretty close game in points. I really like your coach. He used to be a bronco coach. MY hair is thin in the front. I have used everything to make it thicker but nothing works. I used to have really thick hair and then some medicine I took about two years ago thinned it and it never came back.

Fun that your son bought a boat. He must be a true fisherman. When I got my car I went to the park and went through the whole manual so I could do it right then in front of me.

Mary, things sounded very hectic for you Saturday. That’s too bad you didn’t get to stay for the dinner. What a pain with your equipment. It would be very frustrating. Glad you got it up and going. I like the Love channel when I want to relax. It’s channel 70. I mostly listen to country.
Yum, dinner sounded really good.

We went out of town this weekend to meet my Texas cousins. I struggled breathing at 7000 feet. We had a fun weekend though and it was fun to see them. I only watched half the game and listened to the second half on the radio coming home. It was a cold rainy weekend again.

JL. did you have a class this weekend? I have to go get a crown tomorrow....Not excited ! I’d like to have a car with cooling seats. I never turn my heated one on....feels like I’m wetting my pants.

Well, time for sleep. I woke up today at 5:30.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I'm so glad you are no where near Las Vegas right now. Hopefully, no one I know was there, either. Such a horrible shooting that took place during the night. I started watching coverage of it late last night and found out this morning that so far 58 people dead and 515 wounded. I can't even wrap my head around why someone would do that and hurt so many people they don't even know.

As for your equipment; I would be soooo pissed off with people messing with my stuff. What makes people think they have the right to fool with someone else's stuff? It is totally not okay. Maybe you need an sign that reads, "You break it, you buy it". Whoever messed with it should have been the one to cough up the $50 refund for loss of music time. What with the bees and everything else, I bet you would have rather passed on that gig and just enjoyed your grandson's wedding and reception.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I have a hair appointment tomorrow and I'm thinking of getting a few highlights around my face. I'm not sure if I'll like it or not. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? It would be easy enough to rectify if I hate it. A hairdresser I used to go to said that Rogaine for Men works very well for women. Her mother-in-law had very good results with it. Her father-in-law was a retired OB/GYN and he checked it out and said there was nothing about it that would hurt women, their hormones, etc. It's stronger strength than the one for women, for some reason.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne No art class but I do have one coming up this Saturday. I'm looking forward to it. I thought I would play with my paints sometime this past weekend but I never got around to it. The paints I bought to start out with are basic and the color is not as vivid as more expensive paints. That's kind of a bummer. When I have to replace them, I'll get a better grade of paints.

You have certainly contributed a lot of money to dentists. I would not look forward to going for a crown, either. I hope it goes well. I remember how relieved I used to feel once a dentist appointment was over.

It sounds like you had a fun time visiting with your cousins this weekend. It's so nice that you and Louis are able to travel and do as much as you do.

Just_Lin said...

Well, I just read on FB that Lynn's dad and brother are in Las Vegas but they are safe. Phew!

sacBarb said...

J/L, I watched the coverage of the Vegas shooting almost all night. It started dudring the late news and I usually watch Scandal reruns after that, but all of the regular programming was preempted to cover the shooting. I can't imagine being in that situation. I was thinking of when Sharon and I were there to see Cher in May. We were inside a casino venue and possibly safer. Those people were sitting ducks in an outside open venue with the shooter in a high rise building. I felt so sorry for the brother of the shooter when a reporter was talking to him and asking him questions to which he had no answers. I wanted to smack the reporter! It was clear he was in shock and had no information, but she kept hounding him. He should have just shut it down and gone back in his house.

sacBarb said...

P.S. I'm so glad Lynn's father and brother are safe.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I echo J/L's comment about people messing with your equipment. That takes a lot of nerve to think it was OK to do that. Why didn't the owner step in and protect your stuff? I would think he would have some responsibility there and I'm not sure I would have given him the $50. After all, it really wasn't your fault!

Are you going to post pics of your grandson's wedding? It's too bad you weren't able to stay longer to enjoy the reception.

Dianne said...

Hi.....very sad day. I was asleep when it all started and saw breaking news when I woke up early this am. My cousin and two friends were at the concert. She had just posted pictures. They got separated from their friend until later. They hid under a police car. They are safe but very shook up as you can imagine. Mary, I too am so glad you weren’t there. So scary and awful. So glad Lynn’s family is ok

I was at dentist for three hours and ten min getting a crown today but I’m all done. They make it right there and worth the time. Only $1003...with insurance!! Terrible. They’ve missed me since the first of the year. LOL. I had soup from Panera for dinner. It’s so cold here — 45degrees along with dental work— -perfect combination

Barb, I agree with smacking that reporter. The brother was so upset and confused. Reporters get so crazy in these situations.

Not much more to say today. Watching football as I’ve watched so much news today and tonight I needed a break.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb. I didn't take pictures of the wedding. I always hated seeing people stick their phones out in the isles or standing to take pics, getting in the way of the paid photographer. I hope they put some pics up on their wall, then I can share :).

Someone posted a photo of the class reunion where our equipment was. The equipment was no where in sight. Now it makes sense! They must have pulled out some of my cables to move things out of their way. I wish they would have told me that they wanted pics taken there, I would have pulled things back on my own and not screwed things up! Had I know this, I would have kept all the money!

I picked up my wedding ring today at the "Jewelry Dr". My prongs were shot and in danger of losing the diamonds. I hesitated taking them anywhere because I have had bad luck with jewelers. One replace one of my diamonds with a cz (not this ring). Many years ago I bought a beautiful beautiful ruby ring. The stones were a deep color. I was getting new prongs. When I picked it up, the stones were no longer a deep ruby, but an awful dark pink! I had no way of proving them wrong! About three years ago I took the same ring to a local jeweler to replace a stone. When I picked it up the prong holding the new stone was crooked. She said she would send it out to an "expert" friend of hers. I picked it up and saw it and actually cried! All the stones and the band were dark like they had been burned! She said she couldn't understand what happened and offered to have it fixed again! I grabbed it and got the hell out of there! I was so mad!! They were new in town then, and are still there.
I had a lot of good recommendations about the "Jewelry Dr". I am very pleased with their work!

I am so sad about Vegas! My nephew and sister called to make sure I wasn't there!
I told them I was not that surprised. It was only a matter of time! I have been in the elevators with people taking huge boxes to their rooms, probably stuff for conventions. They could have easily been bomb components!

I have been to an outdoor concert at Mandalay Bay, but it was in the pool area, many years ago. The singer was set up in a raised place in the middle of the pool. You could wade out and be really close to the singer. Of course I was right next to her. I am fighting to remember her name lol!! There were a few stars roaming around. I went there on my own and had a long walk back to our hotel, so I decided to leave early. I accidentally walked into a private exit.I happened to catch a peek of a private outdoor elevator, just in time to get a quick glimpse of Michael Jackson getting in. I was quickly escorted to the "public" exit lol!

sacBarb said...

Helloooo. I guess everyone is busy doing something more fun than being on the internet. I haven't even wanted to watch TV that much. I am so sick of seeing the devastation in Puerto Rico followed by more 'news' about Vegas, then back to watching the A$$hole in chief throwing paper towels at people and telling them they don't need flashlights. I guess he forgot they still don't have electricity. I keep praying and asking how much longer is this going to go on?

Dianne said...

It’s been a very sad week. We went to my grandsons football game tonight and I was able to spend time with my son and family. I always love seeing them.

Louis’s daughter is very ill and has been in ICU. It all started with the flu and she went to the emergency room a week ago. Her blood sugar was over 700 and she’s lucky she wasn’t in a coma. She has a horrible infection going into gangrene in her thigh and has been very ill all week. She’s been diagnosed as diabetic. Louis’s other daughter drove out there and now her mom who’s a retired nurse is there. As of tonight they are going to move her out of ICU and into a room. LOUIS is planning on going out soon. She is predicted to be in hospital two months. She’s had three surgeries since Saturday night. Very scary and awful.

Got my stress test and ct scan back and both good....still can’t breathe. It’s good news though.

That’s about it. Take care all.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I'm so sorry about Louis's daughter. That is very scary. Her blood sugar was through the roof. Did she know she was diabetic before this happened? My daughter is diabetic but keeping it well under control and she exercises every day, mostly by taking the dogs to the dog park and walking a lot. The insulin and other medication allow her to eat pretty normally, even indulging her sweet tooth. I hope Louis's daughter gets better every day. I'll be keeping her in my thoughts.

Are you living at a high elevation? I know Denver is called the Mile High City. Do you think your breathing is easier at a lower elevation? That's wonderful that your test results were good. You must be relieved about that.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Yes, the news has been horrific lately; bad news and then more bad news. It's all very stressful. I'm still watching it, though. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

I got blonde highlights in my hair the other day and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. The ladies at the salon were gushing about how pretty it is but they would do that, right? My friend, John and Jane, like it so maybe it's okay. I alternate with hating it and thinking it's okay. Maybe I just need to get used to it. If I don't, I can always dye over it.

My Christmas cards that I ordered online have arrived. I wonder if Christmas stamps are out yet.

Just_Lin said...

Mary That's a cool story about seeing Michael Jackson getting into the private elevator. Many years ago, one of my brother's friends, Phil, was doing some kind of construction work at one of the casinos. I can't remember now if it was actually Vegas or it if was Reno or Tahoe. Anyway, he happened to be walking around the back side of a casino when an exit door opened and out stepped Frank Sinatra and a woman. Without missing a beat, Frank said to Phil, "Just keep walking, Buddy. Just keep walking". Well, Phil kept walking as he didn't want to have his knee caps broken. LOL

That's horrible that your jewelry was ruined by a so-called jeweler. We have a really good one here at the local little shopping center. They are family owned and been there many years and really know their stuff. It's good you found someone trustworthy now.

Mary/MI said...

JustLin, My jaw dropped when I read about Frank Sinatra! What a memory to have!
I would love to see your hair!
My son's diabetes sounds just like your daughter's. Since he has been on meds and exercising on the treadmill, he has been great!

Dianne, good news on stress test and ct scan. I too wondered if the altitude was a part of your problem.
I am sorry to hear about Louis's daughter. How far is she from you? It all sounds scary. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Give Louis a big ole hug for me!

Barb, I had to take a break from all the news. It was hard to watch and I was feeling so sad & helpless!

I had a filling replaced today. I am such a woos! I have a phobia of not being able to swallow, especially with a dry throat. My DDS was very patient and would stop, spray a bit of water in my mouth and let me swallow whenever I wanted. I forgot my left side was numb when I got home and took a drink of water. Yup, I drooled lol!!

I made home made pizza and pb cookies. kitchen is closed! I just have to fold a bit of laundry and my day is done.

Mary, I have wanted to have my rings cleaned, but I am afraid to leave them at a jewelers. I usually just clean them myself with ammonia soap and they come out sparkly. My husband got me a one carat diamond engagement for our 25th anniversary and a wedding ring with five .20 diamonds for my 50th birthday. He had them both made by someone he knew who dealt in diamonds. He knew a lot of people in different trades and was always wheeling and dealing and bartering. When he had the wedding ring made they also connected the four prongs on the engagement ring with horizontal pieces all around the diamond and they told him no matter what I did, the prongs would not break. I would be devastated if something happened to them. I don't have to take them in for maintenance. He died six months after my 50th birthday and I didn't want to put my rings in a drawer with my original set, so I had them sized for my right hand so I could still wear them.

Your drooling story made me LOL! Been there! It's a weird feeling when you can't feel you lip or cheek and try to drink.

sacBarb said...

J/L, We need to see a pic of your new hair! I bet it looks good.

I laughed when I read your question about Christmas stamps. When I was purging files, I came across Christmas stamps from last year. I forgot I had them. Do you think anyone will care they are from last year? Of course, I'm gonna use them anyway!

Jennifer N. and I started our Christmas cards a few weeks ago, but we haven't gotten back together to work on them since. Jennifer B. has been very busy going to Fresno most weekends to help take care of her Mom, who is suffering from dementia. Jenn goes to relieve her sister who takes care of her Mom during the week. Fresno is almost three hours away from Sac. I don't know when we will get to finish our cards. I will be going to San Diego on Oct. 25 and returning on Halloween, so I won't be available that week. We are going to have to squeeze in some time soon.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I'm so sorry to hear about Louis' daughter. Where does she live? I know you told us, but my memory sucks! I will pray that she recovers quickly and completely.

Dianne said...

Louis’s daughter lives in Indiana right across the river from Louisville, Ky. She is out of ICU now and is in a regular room. She’s better. They had to take a large part of her thigh off. She’s going to have to go to rehab eventually to help with walking again. Her mom and sister are still there. Think her mom will stay for awhile. LOUIS finally got to talk to his daughter yesterday. It made him feel much better. Thanks for thoughts and prayers.

JL, I recd my cards too. I should get them ready now but I won’t. I don’t seem to be motivated to do anything. Yes, we live a mile above sea level so the breathing is harder here but I’ve lived her for 67 years. No, his daughter had no idea she was diabetic. I’m on meds for it too and go in for blood work every three mos. they seem to be having trouble getting hers regulated. I am relieved my tests are coming back good but I still can’t breath. I go for breathing tests a week from tomorrow. Btw, Christmas stamps are available at least online.

Mary, that’s a cool story about Michael Jackson. It’s fun to see stars by accident. I only have seen the Oakridge Boys once in a casino years ago. We had pizza last night but not homemade like yours. I’m sure yours is ten times better. We didn’t feel like going out.

Barb, you’d better get going on those cards. It will be here before you know if. I found some Christmas stamps too and I use them now. Are you going to San Diego just for a little vacation? My jewelry place cleans the rings while you wait. They do everything in house.

Well, Lots of snow predicted for tomorrow. We had 70’s all weekend and it was beautiful. It’s already raining now they are saying 4”. Hopefully it won’t stick too bad since roads are warm. I’m a not quite ready for snow and 30 degrees. The tire stores said they had 4-5 hour wait of people buying snow tires. I went to store and it was crowded too.

I’m cooking tomorrow and not crockpot. It’s a new recipe with speg, beans and hamburger plus a few other things. We shall see how it turns out. I have to make it as I have thawed the meat!!

Ok, night all

Dianne, I'm glad Louis' daughter is doing better. I will continue praying for her.

Since my Father-in-law died in January we didn't know if we would have a family reunion this year. For the past 7-8 years we have been hosting them in Santa Maria at his house so he wouldn't have to drive long distances. Prior to that he, my two sisters-in-law and I were rotating hosting the event at our homes. At his funeral, my son Todd volunteered to have it at his house, now that he actually has a house. So I am going to SD to help them with that. I think he is kind of excited to have it there and show off his house. He has been working on fixing little things since they moved in. For the past few years my sisters-in-law and I have been telling the younger generation it is about time for them to take over the task of hosting the reunions, but none of them have stepped up. Dean, my oldest, has a house with a huge backyard, but I don't think his wife wants to offer to host. So, my baby boy stepped up and I am proud of him for offering. Chad lives in a tiny apartment in Seattle, so he has no room to host a party. My other nieces and nephews all have houses that could accommodate the family, so we'll see if any of them volunteer after this year.

Hello out there! Just checking in. Today has been a very lazy day. The air outside is very smokey and smelly. We have been advised to go out only if absolutely necessary. I suppose you have gotten the same advice, J/L. I don't imagine the smoke is good for your asthma.

Dianne, how was your "not crockpot" dinner?

Mary, I am impressed that you make homemade pizza. I'm Italian and I just order pizza when I want it. I should probably try making it myself, but I think I'm too lazy! LOL

Barb You are right about the smoke not being good for my asthma. It was worse during the first full day of fires as the winds were gusting up to 50 mi/hr up there and pushing the smoke down to us. Unfortunately, they are expecting winds again today but I don't know what direction it will be going. Fortunately, my son has not gotten the smoke yet but last month he got smoke from other fires that sent him to the ER two times. His asthma is way worse than mine. So far, the skies are looking pretty okay and I can't smell anything.

Yesterday we lost electricity for about an hour. It turns out that the reason was that a garbage truck parked on a street with an incline started rolling and took out a couple of parked cars and utility poles. Good thing it happened after I got done drying my hair.

It's nice that your family has kept the reunions going all these years. Good for Todd for stepping up and making sure it happens this year, too.

I still don't know if I like my hair. I can't seem to get a good pic of it with my phone. If I'm in the house, my hair looks too brown with blah looking lighter streaks. Out in the sun, the red in my hair is too bright looking and my eyes are all squinty from the sun.

Dianne I see on FB that you are getting in the habit of being awake in the middle of the night. I hate when that happens! This morning I woke up way too soon and couldn't get back to sleep even after I read for a while. I finally gave up and made my coffee. I think there will be a nap in my future.

I'm glad that Louis's daughter is doing better but sorry to hear that she lost part of her thigh. She will have to really take the diabetes diagnoses seriously and do what she needs to do with medication, diet and exercise.

Yesterday, I went with a couple of friends to see "The Mountain Between Us" and then to an early dinner. The movie was good and Idris Elba is not hard to look at.

I'm curious about your dinner. How did it turn out? I made spaghetti a few nights ago. I ate it for two nights in a row and will be eating the last of it tonight along with a salad. I love pastas.

Mary There is nothing fun about going to the dentist. I don't have a phobia about not being able to swallow but I do have a phobia about going to the dentist at all. LOL Yes, trying to drink with lips that are half numb is a challenge. At least you didn't bite the inside of your cheek.

I've never made my own pizza but I'm not out in the country like you are and it is easy enough to have it delivered to my house.

I'm not out in the country but I am at the foot of the mountains here and we are having a lot of coyote sightings on our streets lately. I can hear them calling at night. It would definitely not be good to have an outdoor cat. Last week I was in my living room and looking out the front windows when I saw a deer run by in the middle of the street. I went out to the street and looked after it and just before it was going to go over the rise and out of sight, someone's dogs started barking so it turned around and came running back by me. I sure wish I would have thought to have my phone with me to get a pic or even a video. A couple of nights ago, I was returning from dropping a friend off when I came across a deer standing in the middle of the street. I stopped and he didn't move so I went around him slowly. As I drove away, I looked in my rear view mirror and he was still standing in the middle of the street. It is a quiet neighborhood street but I still worried for his safety. I hope he didn't get hit by a car.

JustL, I LOL @ "I do have a phobia about going to the dentist at all".
We see deer in our back yard all the time. Thank goodness we don't have coyotes! There are some further north of us. I hope the deer you saw is ok. Sometimes they are sick and get confused.

SacBarb,Pizza is a Friday night staple here. Sometimes we order, but have to drive at least 6 miles to pick it up, so you can see why I make it! I sure hope the smoke clears out soon!

Dianne, Snow..eeeek! I know, I know, it's coming here too! I love our seasons, but not fond of the weather Jan-Mar. How did dinner go? I had lunch with friends today and was too full to eat supper. I did make Jim & Matthew meatballs with penne pasta, spaghetti sauce, salad and galic bread.

My friend Don is retired from GM, and works part time in the Michigan State campus cafeteria. It is huge! He got us all in for $5 each. Everything was deli-sh!
It rained most of the day, so a bit gloomy out. The drive to East Lansing was no fun! It was a bit foggy, rainy and way too many semi s on the road! I didn't take my usual route home because it can be very congested. When I got home I heard that there was a terrible accident with a double trailer semi turned over across both lanes and traffic was backed up for miles, on that route! Glad I missed it!!

Mary, You are so lucky you didn't go home your usual way. Who knows what may have happened! Isn't kinda spooky when you make a change like that and find out something happened that would have put it in the middle of it?

J/L, I wonder if it was the same deer you saw both times? Occasionally we will have a deer or mountain lion come down from wherever they live, to our neighborhood. One baby deer came clip-clopping the middle of my street and turned onto the river access park that's six houses from my house, went right up the levee and disappeared. I wondered where its mama was. A few years ago, five turkeys camped out on my front lawn for two days. I don't know where they came from, and they were gone as suddenly as they appeared. I don't know why we get so excited when this happens. It's not like we have never seen them before, but I guess it's because it's so rare! I did post pics of the turkeys on FB.

Mary, It wasn't as smoky today, but the wind is supposed to kick up tomorrow and it may bring more smoke with it. I have to go out tomorrow and all the news stations advise everyone to wear a mask over the nose and mouth. I don't have one, so I guess I'll try not to breathe while walking from the house to the car and from the car to the building! LOLOLOLOL

Barb! Wear a scarf around your neck and cover your mouth with it! I do that when I ride in Jim's car as he smokes! I also do it to irritate him lol!!

I got a burst of energy today and cleaned out my side of the garage. I don't know where all the crap comes from! A lot was from all the painting we did in the house. Things like old rollers, brushes, paint cans, etc. I keep some of my DJ/Karaoke equipment in there so that takes up a lot of room. I have all my gardening and plant stands to store as well as summer furniture. Good thing we have a 2 i/2 car garage! Jim keeps his big truck in his side along with the riding mower, tools mini frig etc. I will try to get more done before winter sets in. At least I still have lots of room for my Jeep lol!

Jim picked up a pizza while I showered. Yay, no cooking!

Jim's cousin Doug passed away this morning. He is from the "U.P."(Upper Peninsula".
I used to love to hear him talk, very Finnish/U.P. accent, "Yah,you betcha" kind of talk. He lost his wife a few years ago and kind of went down hill from there. He was in a nursing home and suffered from dementia towards the end. I think Jim, his buddy and sister and Bro-in-law will be going up for the funeral next week. It's a long drive, over 500 miles. I will stay and watch the fur kids.
Have a great week end all!

Dianne Are you still unable to sleep through the night? I had a rough night last night waking up at 4:30. I though of you while I logged on to my computer. I finally went back to bed at around 6:30 and slept for a few hours. Oh..... The night before, I got a robocall at 2:30 in the morning! I couldn't believe it! I was so angry and there's not even anyone to yell at.

I hope Louis's daughter is recuperating well. Let us know. We haven't heard from you in a while.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I'm sorry about Jim's cousin. It's probably for the best that you stay home with the dogs as it sounds like there will be a long time driving with smoking inside the car. I had to laugh when you said you wrap your scarf around your nose and mouth to annoy Jim. LOL

My daughter came down yesterday to get farther away from the fires and the bad air. I'm getting bad air here but not as bad as her as she is closer to it. I do have a layer of fine ash on my car. She brought her two dogs with her plus a friend's dog that she is watching for a few days. I was at my painting class for several hours in the afternoon but I had made a big pot of homemade soup the night before so we heated that up for dinner and he picked up a nice loaf of french bread to go with it. It really hit the spot as did the chocolate cake she also got at the store. LOL I really didn't need that but it's really very good. Thankfully, it's just a small, little cake.

Hey, are you and your friends going on your trip or are they chickening out again?

Barb So my daughter called me the other day and asked me if I like Ricky Gervais. Well, the answer is "yes" I like him just fine. Well, she had been looking at his tour dates and saw that he was going to be in Seattle in late January. He also has a date in San Francisco but she was thinking we could get tickets to his Seattle show and make a trip out of it. Sounded good to me so we are now set to spend a few days in Seattle in late January. Another thing we would like to do is go to Teatro Zinzanni while we are there. They used to have a set up in S.F. years ago and I went twice. It's a totally fun dinner show in what appears to be a very opulent traveling tent. It has been described as being the Kit Kat Klub on acid. They aren't selling tickets for January yet but they should be by the end of the month. I'm really looking forward to it.

I was hoping to get back to my painting today as I didn't finish what i was working on yesterday but I am so tired now from my rotten sleep last night that I just don't feel energetic enough to get all my paint stuff out. What a waste of a nice, quiet Sunday.

JustLin,I like Ricky G too. He's quite the card! I've never heard of " Teatro Zinzanni.
You have quite a houseful, fur babies and all! I feel bad for those suffering from the smoke.
As far as I know the trip is still on. We don't have to make our final decision until Jan. when the balance for the trip is due. I prefer to know what their plans are, but neither have been on this kind of trip before. I know Sylvia has been to Ireland. She is a bit more adventurous. Rachael has been a homebody and rarely left the state. Now that her husband has passed she is trying to get the nerve up to travel.

Dianne, my sleeping pattern has been weird lately. It started about a week ago. Not sure if it is the changing of the weather/season, or what! It is getting darker earlier and that usually throws me off. I am not looking forward to the time changing either.

I bought a few gross-eries today and made a chicken n dumpling dinner. We have gotten a ton of rain and heavy winds.
I am watching the Brides if Frankenstein" . Its that time of year lol! I prefer the old black and white movies. You know you wont be seeing a bunch of guts hanging out, just a bit of blood draining lol!

This week is kind of busy. I get my flu shot, hair done, and mammogram.
Take care all!

Hi....I’m here. I’m very bored today. No plans so had football on and napped throughout the day. The Broncos lost on top of it too. Tomorrow I go for breathing test and pulmonary dr. I’m not too excited about it. Yesterday was nails and pedicure and take LOUIS to eye dr. He had an eye lasik procedure done to an eye on Friday.

Louis’s daughter is now home and her mom is with her. She can’t get around much with the surgery and will go to wound clinic twice a week. It will be a long recovery. We talked to her today at facetime.

JL, thank you again for the WOZ book. It was very sweet of you. Your trip to Seattle sounds fun. It’s so nice you and your daughter get to do things together. I always enjoy that too. My sleeping has been better..thank goodness. Don’t you just hate that waking up so early? It makes for a long day. Oh, irrating to get a call in the middle of the night plus it scares you.

As you all saw on fb that Tammy got engaged this weekend. She is very excited and happy. They went away for a long weekend for their anniversary and he proposed. We like him a lot too.

Mary, I hope your trip goes through. It will be fun to get away, right? Very sorry about Jim's cousin. I agree with JL...good you’re doing dog sitting as that’s a long drive in smoke. Lol about you putting your scarf on to bug Jim. You didn’t watch football today? Maybe your team was on a bye this week. I think you got our weather but don’t worry....nice is coming.

Barb, how was your weekend? Is the smoke still really bad? It’s so terrible watching the fires on the news. I feel so bad for the people there. So many sad stories. Was it really bad for breathing when you went out the other day?

Now it’s time for bed. Hope I can sleep after all my naps today.
