HAPPY HALLOWEEN! This year I saved my receipt for the Halloween candy I bought. I never know year to year how many kids will show up at my door so I will return a bag of candy to the store if I end up not needing to open it. I'm 72 years old and this is the first time I've remembered ro save the receipt. I guess I'm a slow learner.

Hi.....we board cruise tnrw so will not be nudging any if you for five days. We’ve been in Galveston the last two days. Yesterday it was windy and rainy. I was afraid it was a hurricane. Today it’s sunny and windy/chilly. We took the ferry over to another island, saw a dolphin, had lunch and came back. We were going to go to nice dinner but we weren’t very hungry so we just got burgers and ate in hotel room. I’m a little over sports as we’ve been watching it for three days...World Series for two nights and football tonight. There’s a big motorcycle rally going on this weekend so lots of bikes in town and roads blocked. I’m a little nervous about getting to cruise ship, parked, etc. in the am. We did two trial runs but still not totally comfortable with it.

JL, I thought tonight’s game would be a blowout but it’s a decent game. I like your GM (former bronco) and your coach.

Well, I’ll check in Wednesday. Behave everyone.

Hey all! Not sure why but I cant post anymore

Bebbilane said...

Testing again.. JL did you have to take the candy back?

Just_Lin said...

Bebbi I did take the unopened bag of candy back. I was glad to get my $16 refund. I only had about 35 Trick or Treaters so I had plenty of candy left out of the first bag even though I was having the kids take two candies each.

Bebbilane said...

I bet you were glad to be able to take it back! I didn’t have any trick or treaters. I did not buy any candy. My sister had individually wrapped glow in the dark vampire teeth in case we had one or two but we did not.

Bebbi!!! Welcome back!! I have missed you! Glad you found your way back!
Your Grand Daughter is growing so fast!!

JustLin, We didn't have any kids either. I bought mini snickers just in case. Jim & Matthew like them so they wont go to waste lol!

Barb, I am nudging for Dianne!

I went to a "Sweet Adeline" concert today. My high school friend was in it. It was an hour drive and the weather was horrible! I went in & out of blowing snow, sleet & rain.
The show was cute. They were all over their 70s, dressed like various movie stars. You haven't until you see an 85 yr old lady dressed like Marilyn Monroe lol!!
One cute "Carol Channing" gave me the sweetest hug when she heard how far I had come to see them. Made my day!
I had to get back to attend a benefit for a local couple going through hard times. The wife has tongue cancer and he has been in & out of hospitals. So much sadness!

I am watching my favorite PBS show "Doc Martin".

Don't forget to change your clocks. I just finished changing ours.
It is in the low 30s tonight :(

Dianne I hope you're having a great time on your trip. I'm not sure why you were so worried about making it to the ship. They're usually boarding until mid-afternoon, aren't they? Sure, it may not be the preferred boarding time for the group they've put you in, but they'd still give you priority boarding once you got there.

I didn't even realize there was a football game on Halloween night. We are very stoked about how well our 49ers are doing. So far, we are undefeated.

Just_Lin said...

Mary That was really nice of of you to drive in that horrible weather to go see your friend in her show. I don't think I would have done it under those circumstances. And then to go to a benefit after that! You must have been exhausted when the day was done.

I think I have officially become an old person. I spent most of the weekend on the couch binge watching TV with pillows, a throw blanket over my legs, and the dog at my side. To be fair, I was feeling like I was coming down with something. Nothing much ever happened; just a little sniffles, couching and occasional sneeze.

Yesterday, I went to the grocery store.....twice! When I got home the first time, I saw that I had purchased buttermilk instead of 2% milk. I had to turn around and go right back to the store. Argh!

Just_Lin said...

Barb We are missing you.

Just_Lin said...

Well, I had to go back to the grocery store today because I forgot to get bread yesterday. Ugh! Good thing the store is located at a shopping center only 2 miles away. I also got my nails done.

I heard from Barb and she had cataract surgery on both eyes today so she won't be on the blog for a while.

Mary/MI said...

JustLin, My closest groc. store is 6 miles either way. I am always forgetting something!
Each time I went to town I forgot to stop at the P.O. to pick up Canadian stamps. Shirley from Nova Scotia has a birthday on the 20th. I finally got them today. I did have to turn around because I almost forgot again!
Your "couch/tv binging sounds heavenly!

It has been a trying week. My girlfriend's son had open heart surgery last week. 9 hr surgery! He has not come around yet. He has had many heart surgeries since childhood and has always come through.
My sister in law (Jim's sis)had a stroke Tues and not doing well. She is 80. She is in the same hospital as my friend's son, one floor down. I saw them both yesterday. So sad :(
There are so many hospitals in Grand Rapids! Of course this one was almost in the middle of the city surrounded by other huge hosp. I told Jim we had to go to "Butterworth" he insisted it was "Blodgett!". He drove to Blodgett. I told him no! He wanted me to go and ask the front desk if she was there! I 'bout choked him. I said go to Butterworth!! After going in circles for ever he finally found it. Yup, I was right! men!!
If I would have taken my Jeep I would have used my Navigator, but he knows he can't smoke in it, so, he drove his car.Drove in circles trying to get out of the city too lol!

Hello.....we are in Amarillo tonight and it’s cold. Louis only has his shorts in our overnight bag so he’s really cold in 35 degree weather. We will get home tmrw. I’m Having issues with huge swelling with my legs. I’m trying to elevate every night but needing my water pills. We had a lot of fun on the cruise with everyone. We spent too much time in casino. Louis is going home with $400 extra and I’m down $100. I don’t think that’s too bad after five days. Weather was warm but I stayed on ship. We ate tons and I drank non alcoholic drinks...fattening like pina coladas. Had escargot every night and salad with anchovies. They had a little bday dinner for me on the last night. And of course....I shopped!

Mary, you had quite a couple of days. I hope your SIL and friends son will be better. Our gps took us thru Oklahoma today which was out of the way. I’m about ready to get home and Get ready for next trip, put up tree, do Christmas cards, laundry and pack different season clothes thi.s time.

JL, hope you’re feeling ok. When I worked, I loved those lazy days but Not anymore. The shows on our trip were very good especially two comedians. We went every night. I was pretty good wearing what I brought...almost. They do board until 3 but I like to be early. It all!wirked out. At least we have good driving weather going home.

Barb, hope you are doing well with your eye surgery. Thinking about you

Mary/MI said...

Happy Birthday Dianne!!! I have missed you! I am worried about your swelling legs. Cut back on salt and keep them feet up! Safe travels home.

No changes on sil or friends son. Both will be taken off trechs today if possible.
My SIL had brain surgery to remove a blood clot. They couldn't, so they moved it to a less evasive vein. Now she has to go into the hyperbolic chamber to try and dissolve the air bubbles caused by the surgery. Oye Vey!
Jim will be driving up to see her after his DDS apptm. He has a chipped tooth and I think a missing filling. It is on his way to the hosp. I haven't decided if my heart/nerves can take his driving again lol!!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Happy Birthday!!!!!! I hope you have a really nice day. Sorry about your swollen legs. Those anchovies sure didn't help it out. My daughter talked me into trying escargot while we were on a cruise. Definitely not my thing. All the garlic and butter couldn't make me like it.

I have my Christmas cards but I don't have Christmas stamps, yet. Maybe I'll get those today. I'm not ready to decorate yet as I still have a few fall inspired things out. I want to get through Thanksgiving before getting out Christmas stuff.

Poor Louis must be freezing in those shorts!

Just_Lin said...

Mary It has never occurred to me to get Canadian stamps to send a card to Canada. I send to Shirley and Audrey but always just have the post office figure it out and I pay for appropriate amount of postage.

I'm so sorry about the heartbreaking news in your family. That's a lot going on all at the same time.

Driving with Jim must be infuriating for you. I wouldn't blame you for not going with him to the hospital after the trying experience the other day. He's a very stubborn one, isn't he?

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, I didn
t go with him. I did map out exactly what route he should take. He followed it & made it just fine! whew! And he is Bullheaded lol!!

Hi....we are home. Arrived about 3 this afternoon. We stopped at post office and got our mail and then I held the door open and Louis unloaded car. Now the Unpacking starts and laundry. Ugh. I’d like to get my cards done and house decorated before we leave again. Then there is hair and nails again. The weather was 70 when we got into Denver. Nice to see blue sky and sun again. We had a very nice time but for the first time, I’m sort of glad to be home. JL, you’re so right about those anchovies. I didn’t even think about it until you mentioned it now. I got my stamps about six months ago when they were a little less $. We didn’t or I didn’t spend as much money on cruise shopping this time but then it was only for five days. I Definitely did shopping though.

Louis brought flowers home tonight for my bday. Our dinner consisted of Arby’s tonight..I’m having a gyro. We will go out and celebrate another night.

Mary, so sorry about you SIL. It sounds really awful for her. Glad Jim got to hospital safe today.

Barb...hope all is going well with eyes

Hello Dear Owls. I had my cataract surgery on Wednesday and had to go back for a follow-up on Thursday. My vision was very blurry until today, which is normal according to the doc. I am still seeing things blurry but not as bad today. At the follow-up appointment my left eye was more swollen and the pressure was pretty high, so the doc gave me another RX for that. I already had two to use, four times a day and now this one twice a day, for a month. I haven’t caught up on the blog because it’s a little difficult to read yet. I will check in again in a couple days.
Love you all. ❤️

Mary/MI said...

Barb!! Yay, it's over!! I have to take eye drops every day due to my Glaucoma. I am down to just twice a day now. My drops RX total $175 a month with ins. It would be over $500 and up without ins!

Glad you are home Dianne! Happy Birthday again!! Where are you two going next, I forget.
I miss traveling. The group I usually go with on trips are going next spring to a different Mexican resort. More fancy and way more then I want to pay, so I am skipping this one. I would really like to go on a cruise.

JustLin,My SIL is the same. My girlfriends son has finally come to!! Everyone is so happy!!
He is such a sweetheart! The kind that brightens up a room when he walks in. He always has a hug for me.

Just_Lin said...

Mary First of all, yay for your friend's son finally coming to. That's certainly cause for celebration. I hope he recovers well.

Wow! Those eye drops are really expensive. I bet it's a little tiny bottle, too. The same bottle probably costs $40 in a different country. Grrr....

Why is your traveling group going to a different resort next time? Were they not happy with the other place? Or do they just want to try a different place in a different city?

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Welcome home! The unpacking and laundry is the not so fun part of traveling. It sounds like you had a wonderful time and a good cruise.

I spent another lazy weekend day yesterday. Once again I woke up feeling like I'm coming down with a cold; runny hose, sneezing, etc. So I "stayed home and stayed ugly" and hunkered down on the couch with the dog. Yesterday's weather didn't help as it was cold and foggy. At least today I have blue skies overhead so that makes me feel more energetic.

My married friends (Jane and John) and I plan to go see "Motherless Brooklyn" tomorrow evening. I really want to see it. They do, too, even though they just saw it when they were visiting a friend up in Boise. They thought it was so good that they want to see it again. I would also really like to see Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman" but that's on very limited release for a few weeks and then going to Netflix as it is a Netflix funded movie. I don't subscribe to Netflix since I already get so many other channels.

Just_Lin said...

Barb It's good to see you on here. I hope your eyes are noticeably less blurry every day. Hey, if they're still blurry tomorrow night, maybe it will make you think Sean Spicer is dancing better than he is. LOL

Will Chad be cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year? For the last several years, I've been going down to spend the week with my brother but I'm not going to do it this year. I have had to tighten my belt financially right now and it would cost $500 for my dog to stay with the pet sitter for the week. She used to be able to stay with my daughter but now that she's in Oregon, that doesn't work out. She will be coming down here to spend Christmas with me, though. And since I will be spending Thanksgiving alone, I have ordered a turkey dinner from Safeway. It's a whole turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. I may or may not bother with a vegetable but I will have black olives, which I love. I've also got a frozen pumpkin pie in the freezer and some whipped cream. I will miss the taste of my own Thanksgiving dinner but I really didn't want to go through the hassle.

Just_Lin said...

Oh, I got a $29.50 credit on my electric bill for the two day shut off. It probably doesn't cover the amount of food I had to throw out, but it's better than nothing. I'm fortunate that I was able to store most of my cold and frozen foods at a friend's house.

Hello again. My eyes are still a little blurry, and I need to get some readers for close up. I will get some tomorrow after my hair appointment. Chad will drive me as I don’t feel confident enough to drive yet.

Mary Great news about your friend’s son. How is he doing? Wow! I’m glad I don’t have to use your eye drops. Mine only cost $10 each and the doc gave me the one for the high eye pressure for free. I have great insurance, thankfully. Still praying for your SIL.

J/L, I can watch TV, but it’s a little blurry on the perimeters. You may be right about Spicer! I may not be home at 5:00 to vote tomorrow. My hair appointment is at 2:00 and I have a blood pressure check right after, then we have to get gross-ries!
Chad with probably cook for Thanksgiving. He bought two turkeys at Raley’s for $,39 per lb. We will donate one. We will probably get two more tomorrow to donate. The limit is two. We’ll have to pay cash tomorrow and we won’t use our store card ID.

Dianne, welcome home. I hope you enjoyed your trip and visiting with your family.
