You made me LOL!!
Just came back from the DDS and gross-ery shopping. Turkeys were on sale. There were only 4 left for the sale price.I sure wasn't going to spend $40 for a turkey for the 3 of us! This one was $19. Gobble gobble, sorry turkey!

Dianne Are you still celebrating your birthday? I am invited to my neighbor's 7th birthday party this Saturday and I will be celebrating my friend Jane's birthday with another on Sunday. I'm such a social butterfly! LOL In lieu of a gift, I'm also taking Jane out for dinner on Wednesday. We recently starting doing that instead of exchanging birthday gifts.

I'm so glad you didn't fall when you tripped on the curb. Is that the same curb where you did trip and fall before? I heard recently that it is good to count your steps to keep from tripping. I guess the counting keeps your mind focused on what your feet are doing instead of letting your mind wander.

I watched the latter part of the CMA's last night. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it seems there is some kind of country music show on about every 3 months. Anyway, from what I saw, not much of the show really sounded "country" to me. Even Chris Stapleton whose voice intrigued me so much that I had to come out of the kitchen to see who it was that was singing. Jimmie Allen just got eliminated from Dancing With The Stars so it was nice that he got the award for Best New Artist.

Did you start your Christmas cards? I haven't but I did buy all the stamps for them the other day. One step at a time.

Mary Good for you for snagging one of the turkeys at sale price. Turkey dinners are one of my all-time favorite dinners. I'm going to be joining my friend Kathy's family for Thanksgiving this year. Traditionally, I've stayed home and had a quiet little dinner by myself and just had a relaxed, laid back kind of day and I wasn't sure if I really wanted to go out. On reflection, I decided every day is a quiet, laid back day for me so I accepted the invitation. I've ordered 3 pies from our best bakery in town to take to the dinner; pumpkin, apple, and peach.

My son called me the other day and asked if I didn't used to make a chili pie with corn meal on it. Um, no, but I did make a Tamale Pie and there are no beans involved. I sent him the recipe and I bought myself the ingredients to make one myself. So yummy and I hadn't made it in quite a long time. I've eaten eat for the last two nights so I think I'll take a break from it tonight.

OMG about your friend whose ear got sliced of by crazy guy with a sword!!! I'm so glad they were able to reattach it and that they caught the person responsible. There are so many crazy people out there these days. We all need to be hypervigilant when out and about.

Barb I know you are really tied up with taking care of your sister and her issues and her bills. I hope you are setting aside a little time for yourself.

That's great that Dean is going to the gym. I'm sure it's easier to get into that when you have someone to go with. I used to actually enjoy going to Curves when they had one in town but now it's gone. I liked it because it was only women, mostly middle aged, and nothing really strenuous. It was easy to go in in street clothes, do the circuit of machines a couple of times and then be done. It was good for cardio-vascular, too. I continue to be friendly and in contact with a couple of women I met there.

Like I mentioned to Dianne, I saw Jimmie Allen received the Best New Artist Award at the CMA's last night. I bet that means more to him than the mirror ball trophy would have. LOL

Dianne, My birthday was quiet. I didn’t have a fire permit, so no candles and I had cheesecake instead of birthday cake. My grandson and his wife took me out for dinner last Friday. We went to a nice Italian place and it was very good. It was my first time in a restaurant since the lockdown.
It’s good that Andy and family got the COVID shots so it’s safer for you and Louis to be around them. It’s unfortunate they had to be forced into it!
I hope the pills you got from the doctor have fixed your tummy issues. Does Louis have a surgery date yet?

Mary, OMG how scary for your friend. He was lucky his ear could be reattached.
All you guys make me feel old! I am now 79. I never imagined myself being this old.

JL, I was glad to see Jimmie get the best new artist award. I agree that it probably meant more than the mirror ball trophy would have. I was very sorry to see him voted off.
Dean is still going to the gym with Joshua, but as of Monday he has been furloughed from his job for two months. This happens every year, so they plan for it. He says he’s going to the gym more often now that his days are open. I think he’s been encouraged by the weight he’s lost and the progress he’s made. I used to go to Curves too, and I liked it a lot. The one near me closed and the next closest one was 30 minutes away so I just quit. I don’t know if they are still around.

So today we had an appointment with the geriatric specialist. We were lucky to get in on a cancellation. He is very nice and took a long time with us. His assistant came in first and got some history on Marie and asked her lots of questions. When she asked about the house Marie said “it’s messy, but it doesn’t bother me.” I said it’s more than messy and showed the nurse pictures taken last week. Then the doctor came in and asked her a lot of questions, most of which she wasn’t truthful about, or maybe she was just telling her perception of truth. Anyway, then the doctor said his nurse was going to give Marie a test and to preserve her privacy he showed me out of the room. When we were in the hall he showed me to another room where he and I and a young resident discussed what was really going on. I told him about having her mailing address changed to mine and he said that was a great idea. I also told him I have taken over paying her bills. So, the diagnosis is twofold. Her dementia is mild at this point, but she is also a hoarder and the two are completely different issues. He just said to help her as much as I can. On the one hand, I was encouraged to get a diagnosis, but discouraged that there is no magic cure. I really already knew that, but was hoping for some info about getting help. So, for the time being, Chad and I are plugging along!

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, no way you are 79! You sure fooled me! I guess I assumed we were all close in age. Sounds to me like you are keeping pretty busy. I have a feeling I will have to "just plug along" with Jim when his dementia progresses. He has good and bad days. The bad days he gets irritated easily. Good days he is almost child like. I am going to hate when his car keys will be taken from him! He is 77, so hopefully he has a few more driving years left. Personally, I don't ride with him if I don't have too lol!
It's his vehicle, so he smokes. Gags me. I stay quiet and wear a mask!

JustLin, I was happy to read that you will not be spending Thanksgiving alone. You gave me a good idea. I am going to order my pies this year instead of making a mess lol! My son's fave is pumpkin , Jim's is pretty much anything sweet!
Jim was down to the VFW last night and talked to Ted, the guy that was stabbed. He seemed to be doing good physically, not sure how he is doing mentally after all that he went through. He was also stabbed clean through his shoulder. Missed all the vital parts.

Dianne, How is your Birthday month going? I think about you and Louis and pray you are able to have your health problems taken care of soon.
I had my hair did Monday. I told her my hair was boring and asked her to put a touch of burgundy close to me ears and kind of hidden around the neck area. Came out nice, not to obvious.

Where are Bebee and Seaside? Waving at you two! ~~~~

Hi…..Mary, I received your. Birthday card today..thanks. Yes, I’m still celebrating. Had a few lunches and dinners this week. Louis bought me a present months ago but he forgot and then he doesn’t know where it even is…I said just save it for Christmas. I can hardly still believe I’m 75. Your hair sounds nice. I can’t believe your friend had his ear cut off..so scary in todays world. I’m feeling pretty good. Louis got his back appt moved up to Nov 22. He’s hoping for quick surgery. He really struggles walking or standing. I’m not having to take the pills the dr gave me. Good thing too…he gave me 14=samples and a prescription is $600 for three mos. Just like my diabetic shot is $400 for three mos. I’ve been working off samples but they r getting short on them.

JL…I have a few more bday celebrations coming up this week. I had a very nice bday week. My deceased husband, joe, kids were in town for a funeral. They got in touch with me and we met for breakfast the other day. I hadn’t seen them for five years but we keep in touch and I never forget their bdays. I met with Joes daughter and husband, granddaughter and her husband and two young children and the other granddaughter. They still call me grandma Dianne. Totally warms my heart. Joe would be so happy. His other daughter and kids live here and I see her every couple of months. He’ll be gone 22 years next month. No, I haven’t started my cards but I have the stamps too. I’m just waiting for my address labels from Louis I hope to get them out around thanksgiving but I might be later this year. I’m really glad you’re going to your friends for thanksgiving. I’m sure you’ll have a good time. My friends and I take each other out for birthdays too. Btw, I’ve been listening to our radio station that is playing Christmas music.

Today we decorated for Christmas. We just got a little tree this year and Barb came over and helped carry things up from downstairs. She’s such a help to us. We had Chinese food before we started. It looks very pretty. I’m going to try and attach a picture …never mind it won’t print but it’s cute. I think I’ll text to you all.

Barb, sorry you’re having to deal with so much for your sister. She’s really lucky to have you and Chad. I think I’ll fly u out here to take care of Louis when he has surgery. I think he should go to rehab but he’s totally against it. I was glad to see Jimmie win too. His songs r good. I love the cma show. I was surprised that Chris Stapleton won so many awards. I like him okay. We’re u comfortable going to a restaurant? We got our booster shots on Halloween. We will be going to Andy and Wendy’s for thanksgiving and Tammy’s for Christmas. I love the holiday season. We’ve had a beautiful, fall for once and no snow yet. I wish we’d never get it. We’ve had a few cold days but sunny. I did get a card from seaside and she said she’s been busy and some medical issues.

Well, bye for now.

Mary, The doctor diagnosed ‘mild’ dementia, but Marie’s friend and I both think it’s more than mild. We have a follow up appointment with her primary doctor tomorrow and I intend to mention that to him. The doctor also referred her case to Adult Protective Services and a Social Worker went to Marie’s house to talk with her, but Marie wouldn’t let her in. She talked to her through the slightly opened door and could see the mess, including the cobwebs draping the walls. The Social Worker called me to ask me about the whole situation. I’m hoping we can get some help in getting her to go to assisted living.
I’d love to see a pic of your hair. I got some purple spray to put in my hair, but haven’t had the nerve to use it yet.

Dianne, Your Christmas decorations are so pretty. It’s so nice of Barb to help you guys. I am so thankful to have Chad here to help. When he first said he would move back to help me, I didn’t think I really needed it, but it’s been three years now and I really do need the help. My fibro has gotten more severe since he’s been here, and I’m very grateful.
I hope Louis agrees to go to rehab after his surgery. It will be so much better for him. I did that after both ny knee surgeries and I’m so glad. I got a lot of personal care and PT therapy twice a day. I think that really helped my quick recovery. I was only there about two weeks. Maybe the doctor can talk him into it. It will also be much easier on you, because he’ll be more mobile when he comes home.

JL, How nice that you’re going to your friends for Thanksgiving. Chad got a turkey yesterday and will be cooking it. We’ll probably have Marie over and send her home with a care package!
I think I mentioned to you about Marie’s credit card balance. I called CitiBank to ask for back CC statements to see what she was charging. I discovered that in July a $40,000 cash out was on the statement. I called and asked about it, pretending to be her, and was told it was an online transfer. She definitely did NOT do that! She doesn’t even have a computer. Even her phone is only an ancient flip phone. Anyway, after much discussion, they are opening a fraud investigation. There was also an online charge for $9999.99, from a strip club in Fresno. I had to laugh at that, but I convinced them that as a 90 year old woman, that was definitely not her charge. So, now in addition to everything else, I’m dealing with that!

Checking in!
Barb, Spray that color on! Its fun.
I sure you are able to get Marie into a facility where she will be safe and taken care of. I know my older sister hated when she was placed in one. She did have to get moved to a more secure place because she kept wanting to leave. Yesterday was her 81st B-day. I was able to face call her and sing Happy Birthday. She looked great. She has always been the sweetest and had had the most trying life. She is the one that was taken away from my parents by my Dad's family and took her to Michigan from Texas. They didn't get her back until they moved to Mich. By then she was about 10. It must have been so traumatic for her. So much stress in her life with her 2 marriages.

Dianne, do I have to nudge you? I wonder if you are already getting antsy for another trip? I know I am!

JL, Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal with friends. I am ordering my pies tomorrow from the Traverse city Pie Co. They are expensive but delish!!

Seaside. I love my Doxie socks! You are so sweet. I have them on now. They sure came in handy when I was raking up the piles of leaves today. It has gotten very cold here. I kept hoping Jim would move the piles of leaves I raked up a few days ago, but no luck. I hated that they may be under piles of snow soon, so I raked them on a large tarp and dragged them to the garden spot. It took me 9 trips, but I got it done! Jim was watching his fave. football team lose lol!

Hey Everyone!

*waving at Mary*

I am trying to get back on here regularly. Caught up on all of the things going on.

Dianne ~ Hoping the colonoscopy goes well. I am afraid to get one myself. I need to do that. I thought about that home test they have. Sorry to hear about Louis’s back. I couldn’t tell he had any issues when we went to lunch. Hoping surgery goes well. I have my tree up but Bri wants to help me decorate so I am waiting until we have a day to do it.

Sacbarb ~ sounds like you have been very busy with family things too. Hoarding issues are difficult to handle.

JL: Thought of you when I was in Cali. I took a friend who had never been to California. We talked about coming to Pacifica but ran out of time.

Hey Seaside, hoping all is well with you!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Bebbi Nice to see you here. You should come by more often.

I hope you had a good time on your vacation and that the California weather cooperated for you. Remember how cold it was at the beach by the Taco Bell when you were here before? Speaking of which, did you know it was voted the most beautiful Taco Bell? Also, someone recently had their wedding reception there. That wouldn't be my choice for a reception venue but to each his own.

I have some fall decorations up now. I don't plan to switch over to Christmas stuff until after Thanksgiving. My current decorations do include little orange lights going around the fireplace mantel so it is pretty "merry" already.

Mary When I was younger I used to make my own pies but I find it's just too much work now, especially if you're also doing all the Thanksgiving dinner stuff. I don't think the menfolk really know the difference, anyway. They're just happy to have pie. LOL On Wednesday, I'm going to pick up the pies I ordered and take them over to Kathy's, which is not far from the bakery. She's invited me to stay to eat dinner that night, too. You'd think they'd be sick of me by now.

I come from a very quiet, small family; just mom, dad, me and my younger brother. I can't even imagine someone taking me away, even if it was by a family member. I at least hope they were very good to her. I don't think you'd ever really get over that kind of trauma, though. I'm glad she's doing well in her current situation.

You and all your heavy lifting and manual labor! Be careful that you don't hurt yourself. One of my FB friends posted something about how fallen leaves turn into soil. I remarked that the leaves blowing off my tree in the front yard is creating soil ALL over the neighborhood. LOL

Just_Lin said...

Barb I agree with Mary. Go ahead and put some purple in your hair. Just a few "highlights" here and there. It doesn't stay in permanently, does it? Doesn't it wash out after a few shampoos or so?

I sure hope you have gotten some answers from the bank about how that could have happened to your sister's account. I know banks get hacked. It could also be that Marie got a phone call and fell for a scam and gave her info to someone over the phone. There is a special place in hell for people who take advantage of the elderly. I'm very, very thankful that I still have all my mental faculties intact. Physically, I suck. LOL

I'm preparing myself mentally to get started on holiday baking so I'll have all of it done and in the freezer and ready to send out to my son's family and to my brother. My daughter will be here for Christmas so at least I don't have to mail to her. So far, I've only made one batch of fudge and still need to do another. Then on to cookies.... I do this because it used to be my other doing it every year. Once she passed away, I felt like I needed to pick up the torch. I now know how taxing it must have been for her in her later years.

Dianne Well, I never made it to my 7 year old neighbor's birthday party. It was held at a large park here in town. I attempted to attend but the park parking lot was absolutely full and the only other place to park was on the one street that leads to the parking lot and that street is long and very steep there was absolutely no place to park on that street, either. I spent about 20-30 minutes driving around the neighborhood and rechecking both the parking lot and the street trying to find a spot to park. After all that time, I did find one about half way down the steep street. By the time I walked up the steep incline to the entrance to the parking lot, my sciatica in my left leg was killing me! I had no idea how much farther I was going to have to try to walk as I had no idea where in the park the party was. At about that time, another neighbor came trudging up the hill with his two little girls so I gave him my gift to take to the birthday girl and I drove home. I had no idea how popular that park was, especially on weekends. The little girl loved her gift so that was good. Her family is going away for Thanksgiving. There tradition is to camp at Big Sur with other family members. They should be coming over shortly with their gecko tank as I agreed to take care of the gecko while they are away.

I haven't heard any Christmas music, yet, and I'm not ready for it. I'll try to get in the spirit once Thanksgiving is over. I can only handle one holiday at a time.

I hope Louis changes his mind about rehab. Either that, or you will have to set him up to recuperate where he doesn't have to deal with stairs. Maybe his doctor can talk some sense into him.
