The Pharmacy

 by Dianne

Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout counter.

The pharmacist at the counter asked the older boy, 'Son, how old are you?'

'Eight', the boy replied.

The man continued, 'Do you know what these are used for?'

The boy replied, 'Not exactly, but they aren't for me. They're for him. He's my brother. He's four.'

'Oh really?' the pharmacist replied with a grin.

'Yes.' they boy said. 'We saw on TV that if you use these, you would be able to swim, play tennis and ride a bike. Right now, he can't do none of those.'

I've had an interesting, if sleep deprived, time of it since my daughter left for Ireland last Friday and left me in charge of her 3 dogs. First of all, the elderly chihuahua has a bladder that usually needs relief every 3 hours or so. I also need to get up once a night to pee. The other dogs usually want to go out when the chihuahua needs to go out. It seems I am only getting sleep in 2 and 3 hour increments and I am tired!

Sunday I went to my local Rite Aid pharmacy to get the updated Omicron COVID booster since it is closer than going to Kaiser. I was hoping to get this year's flu shot at the same time but was informed that Kaiser wouldn't pay for it out of network. I asked what the charge would be and was told $90 so I decided I'll be going to Kaiser's drive thru flu shot clinic which is free.

Sunday night Jane came over and we ordered pizza and had that and Caesar salad for dinner before watching an episode of a documentary about Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. My daughter's oldest dog, a black and virtually deaf dog, indicated she wanted to go out. I opened the back door to let her go out, leaving the door open, and then started to watch the show. It was dusk at the time I let Sookie out. When it got to be totally dark, it occurred to me that I had not heard Sookie come back in so I paused the show in order to check on her. I could not find her! I stood out on the deck clapping loudly and calling, to no avail. I had already checked all the rooms in the house so I grabbed a flashlight and when down in the yard to scour every foot of it, in and around trees and bushes, under the deck, etc. Not there! Shit! There is part of the side fence which is down in the very back corner. It exposes a hug overgrowth of bushes, vines, brambles, etc., in the neighbor's yard. It's very thick and is almost like a wall of foliage. I hurried next door to alert them that the dog may be in their yard They are renters and had no idea if the fence along the very back of their yard had any openings in it or not as they can't see it because of all the overgrowth of bushes. So now I have them on their back deck clapping as loud as they can in case Sookie is back there somewhere but there is no rustling or anything else that we can hear. Jane and I decide to drive around slowly and I am shining a flashlight at people's front yards. Didn't look suspicious at all! My neighbor across the street, Jason, got on his Razr scooter and was cruising around in the dark looking for Sookie, too. I just kept thinking, "I cannot loose my daughter's dog." I'm trying not to let panic take over. No sign of Sookie. Jason asked if I would like him to climb through the overgrown foliage next door and I tell him yes. He and his wife, Rainbow, come over with their flashlights and start climbing over and around stuff. I start yelling "Sookie" as loud as I can, through cupped hands. Miraculously, I hear from the street below mine, "She's on Rosita". OMG! I yell in that direction, "Black dog?" And they reply, "Black dog. On Rosita." I yell, "Thank you! We're coming!" As I yell that, I see that Jason and Rainbow are running across my backyard toward the side gate. I go through the house, grabbing a leash. When I go out front and to the corner, Jason and Rainbow are already shepherding Sookie toward home. She doesn't know them so is not letting them get too close. I clap to get her attention and she comes over to me and I get the leash looped around her neck and go home. Jason and Rainbow went next door to let those neighbors know that the dog is found. I have never been so relieved to see a dog in my life. Apparently, she can get through the neighbor's back fence putting her into someone's backyard on Rosita. It was the night we put garbage cans out for morning collection so maybe someone's gate was open allowing her to actually get out to Rosita. Really thankful to my neighbors.

I see my typo. I do know the difference between lose and loose. LOL

BTW, MUM is the word regarding Sookie's shenanigans. Don't mention it on FB. I'm not telling my daughter about it until she returns from Ireland.

JL, OMG, what a scare, especially when you’re calling a dog that can’t hear well. I’m sure you were beginning to panic. Thank goodness for your helpful neighbors. How long will you be sitting the dogs? It’s like having babies again! I wake up every 2-3 hours and have trouble getting back to sleep every night, so I know how tired you must be. I take melatonin, but I don’t think it helps.
I’m not going outside these days because the air is so bad due to the Mosquito fire. It isn’t that close to us, but it’s so big it’s affecting our air. The heat hasn’t helped, either! One day it got up to 118°.another reason not to go outside.
Nothing else is happening here. I spent a lot of time watching the coverage of the Queen’s life, etc. She was a remarkable woman, even swearing in the new Prime Minister two days before she died.

Dianne, No snow yet lol! We are still getting unseasonable temps.
I too have been purging. I see no reason to keep things that have been stored away, especially knick/knacks. My next project is cleaning out files. I always kept manuals from things I have bought, like frig, stove, dishwasher, phones etc. All that info. can be looked up on Goggle, so out they go! Also old check stubs from eons ago! Crap my kids won't have to deal with. I have a small fire-proof safe that needs to be organized and cleaned out.

Matthew & I got tired of our driveway being so uneven and nasty especially after a rain storm. I have been nagging Jim for years! Even his friends comment about how bad it is. Well, I decided to look for a company to come and give us an estimate. Jim did not seem to mind... until the estimate lol!
He did recover and agreed to have it done.Like the guy said, EVERYTHING has gone up! I liked the guy right away when talking to him on the phone. He said he couldn't come on Wed. like he first stated, because he had to stay home and watch his 4 yr old because she was ill.
He just left. A very nice young man. It can't be done for a few weeks. I told him, as long as it was before the snow started flying lol! In Mich., you never know!!

We had to go to a friends mothers funeral yesterday. We have another one in two weeks. I send out too many sympathy cards! We’ve had some light rain yesterday and today. It’s even in the 50’s today,..ahh. Perfect . It’s a nice change. Back in the 80’s tmrw which is good too. We leave for Branson in a couple of weeks. I’m excited that it’s finally here. We are meeting my cousins there. They just finally got home from Alaska.

Mary, that will be nice to have your driveway all done for yucky winter. We need to go somewhere for the winter ..ok? Where? Broncos won Sunday but it wasn’t pretty. We aren’t doing as great as they hoped with our expensive QB. We shall see. It’s nice getting organized, isn’t it? I don’t want Tammy to have to deal with all of it either.

Barb and JL…I’m coming to nudge you both. How r u like the Bach show with two girls on it? What r you both u too? JL, is your daughter back? Did u tell her about the “incident’. Well, I don’t have much to talk about today but wanted to check in. I’m going nudging now
