Grandma Still Drives

 by Just_Lin

Grandma is eighty-eight years old and still drives her own car. She writes:

Dear Grand-Daughter,

The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a 'Honk if you love Jesus' bumper sticker ..

I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting.

So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.

Boy, am I glad I did; what an uplifting experience that followed.

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn't notice that the light had changed.

It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't honked, I'd never have noticed.

I found that lot of people really love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, 'For the love of God!'

'Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!'

What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus!

Everyone started honking!

I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people.

I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!

There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach.

I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air.

I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant.

He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something.

Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii , so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back.

My grandson burst out laughing.

Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me.

I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared.

So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!!

Will write again soon,

Love, Grandma

That was funny!
This has been quite the exciting week here in Mich. High winds, rain, tornadoes, flooding and many power outages. Many around me are still out and may be till next week. My particular area was not effected. 6 miles down the road there was a lot of damage.

Jim's oldest brother is not doing too good. He has been treated for stomach cancer for a couple of years. Those Syrjalas are tough cookies! He will be 88 in Dec.

Our high temps have finally calmed down. I will still not complain about the heat. Hate winter!
I am not sure why I was unable to post from my phone last night. I got into FB ok.
Many businesses have no power, so no internet. They have some back up, but cards cannot be used for payment. Checks and cash only. I am sure the ATMs have been busy lol!
Well, I HAVE TO CUT THIS SHORT. i WILL BE COOKING t-BONES, SHRIMP, BAKED TATERS AND OF COURSE MY WONDERFUL SWEET CORN :) Dam caps! I refuse to do over ha ha!

Hello my lovelies. We have been very busy visiting care homes and assisted living places and we have decided on a board and care home for my sister. It looks like a very nice home with very organized staff. We have been preparing my sister for this move for about a month, so it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to her. I’ve also told her it’s just not safe for her to live alone anymore. I will be so relieved knowing there are professionals taking care of her. She seems to have accepted the fact that she has to move, but she is a little anxious about it. I just pray it goes well. Then we have to get her house sold!

Mary, your dinner sounds yummy. We got some corn from s friend of Chad’s that was delish! She got it from a ‘pick your own’ place. Chad wants to go there this week and get more.

Mary I just read your post about your poor Zoie getting attacked. How very scary that must have been. I'm glad you were able to clean the wound that you could see and apply the ointment. If she won't let you look for more wounds, you might want to take her to the vet so they can check her out. Hopefully, she'll just be a little sore and will get over this trauma quickly. Hopefully, you'll get over the trauma quickly, too. Where was Jim? Did he not hear you screaming? I'm sure glad the neighbor girl heard you so she could control her dog. I would never want to have a dog like that. My sweet Ursula was the best girl and was friendly to dogs and kids. She was an 82# pit bull so she could have done damage if she was so inclined but nothing could have been further from her mind. Even when a crappy little terrier broke away from its owners and ran across the street to attack my dog. My Ursula did nothing to protect herself even though she could have killed that dog. All she did was look up at me while the dog was on her neck snarling, as if to ask "What is this? Do I have to take it?" I was so pissed off at the other dog's owners. If you have an aggressive dog like that then you better have a death grip on the leash. Anyway, I digress. I hope that neighbor's dog never gets loose again. It's a danger.

I'm glad you haven't been affected by the storms. And glad you have that generator, just in case.

You're probably lucky I don't live near you or I might conveniently show up right before dinner time. Everything you cook for your family sounds so good.

Barb I'm so glad you are making progress on finding a suitable living situation for your sister. That will be such a burden lifted from you once she gets settled. I never used to think about these things when I was younger. Now that I'm old, I hope my mind and body hold up until the very end. Not that I'm in great shape but I still get around fine and my mind is still good. One of the reasons I play those word games on FB is to keep my mind active.

Is Chad still cooking tasty dinners for the two of you? I've been looking at the Home Chef ads and considering going that route for a few meals a week. I think their oven-ready meals are for two servings so having two delivered a week would take care of 4 dinners. I'm just getting kind of tired of cooking and coming up with ideas of what to cook. Once in a while, I'll try out a new recipe but usually I want something easier. Safeway (Albertson's) bought Plated years ago and was selling them in their stores. I tried a few of them and they were really good. You still had to do the actual cooking but all the ingredients were premeasured and ready to go and the instructions were precise. I guess not enough people purchased them because it all disappeared.

Dianne Where are you? It's not like you to be out of the nest so long.

It seems like you've been able to go to a long of concert this summer with your daughter. That's great fun, especially if you're not outside in the sun.

I got my hair cut today. I pretty much go every 4 weeks like clockwork. After cutting my hair, the hairdresser dries and styles it but she tends to style it a little differently than what I do. I usually come home and fuss with it. LOL

Oh, guess what? I bought Christmas cards and they arrived today. I bet I'll still not get them addressed until December. Sometimes my handwriting is really nice and sometimes it's kind of cramped and jerky. When that happens, I have to draw circles until my hand relaxes more. I spend way too much time on the computer clutching the mouse, playing games.

I hope you and Louis are doing well and that there's been no more falls.

Hi. I didn’t realize it had been so long. I think I wrote one after that but it didn’t go over. Thanks for the nudge. We r doing ok. We leave for Branson a week from today. We will be back the 18th. Driving of course! No falls by either of us. Finally. I am scared still walking. I don’t feel very stable. We went to my youngest grandsons football game last night. He’s a senior. My niece joanna offered to help us It’s a huge walk from parking to stands. I used my travel chair with Joanna pushing. They were supposed to get a golf cart for louis but didn’t. He had his cane and a student helped him walk. It was too long. He was uncomfortable through half of the game. Joanna got the cart then to take him back to car. He was able to hear game from there. The other team beat us 50-0 last year so very favored. We won by one point. Ashton made the first touchdown and the last in the last ten seconds. It was the game of the week on the news . I had recorded it so got to watch again and showed Ashton and said his name. He was the hero! After the game they honored first responders so Todd was presented a jersey with ash’s number and name. It was a surprise for them that we showed up. I’m so glad we could go.

Mary, I’m so glad Zoie and you r ok. I hope you turn dog in too. Did they take it for the weekend? What a terrible experience to go through. How’s Jim’s brother? Where does he live?

JL, you got your cards first this year. I’m having a very hard time to not be ordering Christmas gifts since we r we r not drawing name this year. We simply can’t afford it. In Tammy’s group andy and Wendy set the limit of $250. Well, when there r two of us…it’s too expensive for us and we have no idea of what to buy. I’ve thought about some of that food too.

I had a tooth fall out ..half of it last week I had to get the root pulled Monday and it hurt like hell. Bone transfer, stitches $1750:out of pocket. I was there 2-1/2 hours. It still doesn’t feel right so need to go back Wednesday. It still hurts. I went to primary, heart dr and pulmonary last week. My echo turned out good the dr said and come back in six mos. Pulmonary gave me a thumbs up A+ come back in six months. I told each dr that I can’t breath with or without oxygen. The said they knew but whatever. Crazy appts

Barb, did ur sister move yet? Is she adjusting to the idea of it now? Hope it’s less stress for you. R u still making Christmas cards? How’s that going? Well, that’s about my updates and no I haven’t started packing yet but suitcases are in now

Hi all. Hope you are all enjoying the Holiday weekend. Pretty boring here, which is a good thing considering lol! We don't need anymore excitement here!
Zoi is back to only using her enclosed area for doing her business. I get too nervous walking her around the open yard. Jim is always on stand-by.

JustLin, Jim was not home when Zoie was attacked. Matthew had his ear set on. I am surprised the little girl heard me. Her parents said the didn't hear because they had the motor home running in preparation for their trip.
Wow! Ursula was 82#s! I can barely lift Zoie at 18#s!
I wish you lived close by too, as I would not have to drive across town to give away leftovers lol!

Dianne, you need to "copy & paste" your comments. I do, I hate re writing posts and forget most of what I wrote!

Dianne, Jim's brother lives in Michigan north of Detroit. Bout 1 & 1/2 hr away. The Syrjala's are not much on visiting. I used to nag at Jim for not stopping to see his late sis Shirley when in town about a 15 minute drive from us!
I am glad you had good news from both Drs, but why not concerned about your breathing?
Holey cow on your DDS bill!

Barb. Thinking of you. Hoping all goes well with your sister's move. I am sure it is stressful for you.
I sure hope my kids don't have problems with me lol! Just sit me by water and play oldies on my earphones and I will behave :)
