Will I Live to see 80-something?

by Dianne

Here's something to think about.

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I'm almost seventy six.)

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'

He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?

'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued Ribs?

'I said, 'Not much... my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'

'No, I don't,' I said.

He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?'

'No,' I said...

He looked at me and said,.. 'Then, why do you even give a shit?

Good morning, HOoters!

Dianne Well, that made a good point. LOL Thanks for the chuckle this morning and for allowing me to be the prettiest in the nest today.

I had a successful day yesterday. I hate shopping but had to go out and try to find a new pair of jeans and, lo and behold, I actually found a pair that fit. Yay! I'm only buying the one as I have a couple others I can also wear and I plan on losing more weight. I went to another store and found a cute top that will be good for hot weather. I leave for my brother's on Saturday and it looks like it's expected to be in the 90's while I'm there. Ugh! I had a good shopping day last week, too, when I bought a few new things to wear on our coastal cruise coming up in October.

Bwah ha ha! That was funny!!! Live life to the fullest and have that brownie eh?

JL I can only find jeans that fit me right at Macy's. I am built like an up-side-down coke bottle (the old glass ones) lol!!
I need a few tops. Those are hard to find also. Most look like the old fashion maternity tops on me!

I haven't checked are 51 for the last comments. On my way.........

Dianne, Well, that's food for thought! As I was reading, I thought "ruh roh, I do all of those things except smoke." When I got the the end, I thought "EXACTLY!" what's the point? If you can't have fun, what's the point? LMBO

J/L, You are the prettiest, in first today! Thanks for the heads up about the new blog.

SoCal is going to be hot by Pacifica standards. I hope your brother has A/C? You are not used to hot weather. It's so nice that you go there for his birthday every year. Does he come up to Pacifica for your birthday?

Hi Mary, I hope things are better with your son and he isn't in pain any more.

Well, one more day and off to the dentist I go. I'm so scared and nervous. I wish it was six months from now!! I think I won't be eating anything good, talking, leaving the house for months. (Remember..my glass is half empty). I go at 10:15 for the day. I have purchased different ice creams and il,going to give Louis a list of places with my favorite soups like Olive Garden.

I hope you have a fun trip, JL. I also hope your brother has ac. It's going to be hot. We are having fall this week here and it's really nice to have some cooler weather. Sounds like you've been doing good shopping. Have you gone down in sizes since your weight loss? What will you do while visiting him?

Barb, you go girl doing all that list of dr things!! I'm not that fun anymore.

Kayla was supposed to go to court today for the pot ticket she received and Andy went to get here and she never showed up. Great. She is gone to someone's house but no one knows where. She texted me last night asking for grocery money and I told her no. It was really hard to do that even though I knew I had to do it.

Mary, I don't think you look like an upside down Coke bottle!! I think you're cute!!

Yes, it's going to be very hot for me at my brother's house. No, he doesn't have A/C, he just has a window air conditioner so I guess I will sit in front of that a lot, as I usually do. He lives on a very tight budget so I will take him out to special dinners while I'm there. He hasn't come to visit me since my mother died, primarily because he has a weird cat that he can't afford to board and right now I don't have a room for him to stay in. I haven't put money into getting a new bed for the "guest room". I keep spending money on trips, instead, it seems. I've been living with a sofa with a broken arm for years and can't seem to give a crap enough to spend money to get a new one. It bugs my daughter no end but I seem to always find something else I'd rather spend money on.

My friend and I went to see "Sully" tonight and we really enjoyed it. What a miracle that landing was. I didn't know all that stuff Sully went through after the incident.

My WW efforts will be sorely tested while I'm at my brother's. Like I said, we will be eating out a lot. He will also make a delicious German Chocolate cake for his birthday so I will have to have at least one slice of that and that will be a lot of points. I went out to dinner tonight before we went to the movie and am going out to dinner again tomorrow with a different friend,. This is not a good time to try and lose weight.

sacBarb said...

J/L, LOL at your broken couch. You can replace that anytime, but at some point you will probably not be able to travel as freely, so do it while you still have the eergy and health to do it.

Dianne said...

Well, tomorrow is the day. I have everything done around here...laundry,etc., and things set up like pain pills by bed. I'll check in sometime in the near future. Maybe sooner than I think. Right now I can barely think of anything else.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Sending good vibes your way and praying that all goes well.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Thinking of you. I hope you have some Valium or other drug to help take the edge off of your anxiety. I do remember how I felt walking into the dental office on the day I had my teeth out; like I was going to my execution. Silly, in hindsight, as it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. Part of my problem was my overwhelming and longstanding fear of the dentist in the first place, even for minor procedures. Everything went better than I thought it would and I was very happy and relieved to be done with all the dental drama and I bet you will feel the same way. Hugs.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Well, I took my doggy up to American Canyon today as she will be staying at my daughter's while I am away. Going over the Bay Bridge, I could not believe how backed up the traffic was on the other side that was entering S.F. I takes me just over an hour to get to my daughter's and it was smooth sailing. After taking her to lunch, I headed home and my GPS had me go via Golden Gate Bridge so I guess the Bay Bridge was still messed up. Going that way took 1 1/2 hrs. I'll have to check the news to see if there had been an accident or something. The house was so empty when I got home as there was no doggy here to greet me.

Just_Lin said...

Mary LOL @ upside down Coke bottle. Someone once told me I was shaped like a Coke bottle. Now I'm shaped more like a pickle barrel. LOL

Hi, HOoters. Dianne asked me to pass on that she had a very long and rough day. Her procedure started at 10:00 and didn't end until 6:00. She has some swelling and is in pain and she says the bleeding is "gross".

Poor Dianne. I hope she's able to rest well tonight. Things will get better from here on. At least it's all over now and she doesn't have to worry about it anymore.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I hope you got some good drugs for pain. Rest and put ice on the swelling, you probably are already doing that. I'm sending all the good juju I can so you will heal quickly.

Just_Lin said...

Well, I'm all packed and ready to go. I had the hardest time deciding what to wear to the airport. I was especially undecided about my shoes but decided to just wear my tennis shoes when I remembered how far it is that I have to walk at the airport.

You may not hear from me much while I'm gone as my brother does not have wifi at his house. Wish me luck on not gaining to much weight while I'm there. :)

Dianne I hope today has been a better day.

sacBarb said...

Dianne. I hope you are doing better today. Please check in so we know you are OK.

Hi...I'm here. Still somewhat swollen but not like Saturday. My eye and lip are the problem. My lip is numb so both dentists are going to see me on Thursday. It's hard drinking but I can now use a straw so that helps. This has been quite the ordeal. My upper plate is screwed in to implants. It's weird, Heidi and I both had uppers pulled Thursday. She looks good. No bruising like I do.

JL, hope you have a good vacation and not too hot. I think I'm losing weight!! Hell of a way to do it. I might try and weigh in tomorrow.

Hi barb, I'm still using drugs but starting to get bored. I go from ice to warm cloths. I used ice at first though. Louis is a good nurse. Barb and another friend brought over food. Yesterday I ate salmon, rice and soft asparagus and pumpkin pie!! I don't have much of an appetite yet, which is good. Thanks for prayers. I appreciate it.

Kayla is still missing and not going to school. She texts me to check on me. They had quite an incident with her sat at her moms and had to pull her away from hitting her mom. It's very awful and I'll be surprised if this smart girl graduates. Heart breaking

Mary, what's going on in your life?

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Thursday is a long time to wait to see the dentist for you lip still being numb. I think the numbness should be gone by now! I have a friend that has a permanent numbness on her lip and part of her jaw from some dental work she had done. I hope that doesn't happen to you.

Kayla is missing or just missing school? It sounds like she is picking up some of Jake-ass's traits! I wish there was a magic bullet to snap kids out of this kind of behavior. At least she is keeping in touch with you. That's a good thing.

It's 1:00 am here. I seem to be on the go a lot lately! I have been concentrating on
my spare room where all my home office stuff went after the dam accident! I have no clue where all this stuff came from lol! I have been using the paper shredder a lot. Why oh why did I save all those pay, and check stubs/receipts/yada yada! I have been tossing old medical papers and pictures of people I don't recognize lol!

Dianne, I have been worried about you! I am glad you checked in! I sure hope you are done with all the major surgery shit! Dianne, did they put you out? You have more money in your mouth than people have in the stock market lol! WTG with your Broncs! Lions suck! :(

JL, I can't seem to get the image of your brother's "weird cat" out of my mind LOL!
I am ok with DDS unless surgery is involved, like my root canal! I tend to panic if I can't swallow for some reason! I hate having my mouth held open by any contraption! I have to have something to relax me. I would never make it if I had Dianne's problems!

Tomorrow I am going to try to finish the spare room. I have thinned out my closet again and taken stuff to a local Church donation center. They sell stuff for little to nothing. I gave up giving to Goodwill. I have read too many bad reviews on them!
I always give my better things to a friend of mine. She and her friends love when I take stuff to them. Today I also went to the recycle center. We get a daily paper and a few magazines. They pile up pretty fast.

After cooking dinner and my evening walk I baked peanut butter cookies and finished the laundry.
As you can tell, I live a pretty boring life lol!

Mary/MI said...

I have to brag! I am a new Great Grandma! My son Tony's, son, Logan's fiance', (whew!) had the baby just after noon today. It has been a while since there has been a baby in this family. I was almost sure I would not live long enough to see it lol! My son Tony just got off the phone with me. He was bursting with pride! He must have talked for almost an hour lol! I think him and his wife may have been doing a wee bit of celebrating! I can't wait to get my hands on her!

Back to your regular programing.....

Just_Lin said...

Mary Congrats on the new addition to the family!

I no longer give to Goodwill, either. I now give to PARCA which sends a truck around periodically to pick up donations.

Speaking of clothes and such.. I found a pair of knee length shorts in my closet and brought them here to my brother's because they were so comfortable. I've now discovered that I can put then on and take them off without unbuttoning or unzipping them. They are at least one size too big. No wonder they are comfortable. Things may change by the time I go home Sunday as all we are doing here is eating. LOL

Just_Lin said...

Dianne It is too hot here. I think I was bothered more by it today than any other day. I will surely be heavier when I go home than I was when I arrived. We are eating out every day. With this heat, neither of us wants to cook, anyway.

I'm glad you are finally doing better. I hope the swelling and numbness disappear soon. Do you like the way your teeth look?

The situatiin with Kayla is some troublesome. I'm sorry you have to have that stress adding to your current troubles. That's good she is contacting you, at least.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I was lying on my side on this bed, reading my Kindle, when I suddenly saw a spider running at me. Yikes! By the time I levitated off the bed and grabbed a Kleenex, it had gone back over the far side of the bed and disappeared. I hate when that happens! So I am taking this opportunity to write to you all on this blog while I pretend the spider has magically left the building so I can lie down and go to sleep.

Has it been hot up there?

Dianne said...

Hi....well, went to WW today and lost 10.6 pounds this week. I sure as hell better had lost. Tough way though. My friends and I went to Olive Garden and I was able to eat some speg and soup. I'm not very hungry yet and not eating candy because I'm scared of breaking these things. Yes, I really like how they look.

Barb, I sure hope I won't have permanent numbness. It's not fun. My swelling is just about gone except on my lip. It looks like Botox. Bad Botox.

Yes,we do not know where Kayla is at all. She keeps saying she's sick. I hope to GOD she's not pregnant. She texted me this morning that she was going to counseling then didn't go. Just texted her mom this afternoon "can't go". It's the first time she missed it. We are worried sick sbout her. If she only would go home. Please keep praying.

JL, cool about your shorts. That must be a great feeling. Hope you're having fun. Yikes about the spider. It's probably sleeping!! Hope it was small. Sounds like you are enjoying yourself ...good. You are spoiled not having that heat we all get at our houses.

Mary, you are so busy. Yes, I was sound asleep for the first part of the surgery and then awak for a coulee more of the hours for the fittings. I'll be glad to go to both dentists tomorrow.

You are going to feel so great when you are all done with your room arranging. I need to go thru some clothes too. I seem to put things off

Tomorrow (Thursday) is Louis's birthday. We will go to dinner..he said we could just stay home since i can't eat a lot but he always wants to go to Red Lobster so I should be able to make do. I don't want him to not go out for his bday. We are going to see the movie Sully on Saturday and then go for a mountain drive to see the colors changing. Going to my nephews Sunday for Bronco gathering.

Time for bed. Hope I sleep better tonight. I've been waking up a lot. Last night I had a dream I broke my teeth on a green jelly bean!! Yes, I dream in color.

Dianne, 10+lbs. is huge for a one week loss. However, it's not a good way to lose it. I wish I would lose my appetite, but I don't want to go thru what you did.

I have been praying every day that Kayla will dump that Jake-ass and come to her senses. It is such a worry when your kids are going through stuff like that! You certainly don't need that stress right now. I have also been praying for strength for all the adults in Kayla's life. At least she is still in contact with you so you know she is OK, sorta!

sacBarb said...

J/L, Congratz on your weight loss. I have been really watching my food intake and I have lose about 5 lbs. I had one bad day where I wanted to eat everything in sight, but I tried drinking water instead and I got through that day. I wasn't really hungry, but I could have eaten everything in the kitchen.

It has been 100+ every day this week, but it is cooling off tonight. We are supposed to have a few days of mild temps and then another week of 100 degrees. I am not really bothered by the heat too much, but my A/C has been running more than usual.

When are you going back home?

sacBarb said...

Mary, Congratz on the new Great Grand baby. It's so much fun to buy baby stuff.
We haven't had a new baby in the family for a very long time. My grandson is 25 and my other two boys aren't going to have any kids, so I have to be content with other people's babies! LOL There will be a couple of babies at the family reunion I am hosting in October. My sister-in-law's grandchildren will be there.

sacBarb said...

Hey Jodi. I hope all is well with you and your family.

Dianne said...

Barb, thank you so much for all your caring prayers. I appreciate it so much. Xxoo

Mary, I forgot to congratulate you on the new baby. How fun to get to go,shopping and hold that little one...seems like only yesterday!!

Mary/MI said...

Hello m y sweet owls! You are such good writers! I laugh, cry, worry and enjoy all of your comments. I am missing Hodi ,Shirley and a few others. Maybe they are lurking in the bushes lol!

Dianne, Red Lobster sounds so good! I am sure Louis will appreciate your taking him out for his Birthday. Show off that new beautiful smile :) I LOL, @ your "bad Botox".
I am so glad it is over for you!
I think a lot about your Kayla and keep her in my daily prayers.

SacBarb, Wow, you are hosting a family reunion! You will be busy! I h ope you will have helpers! How fun to be having babies to enjoy....and then send on their way. lol!!
I know all too well that feeling of "wanting to eat everything in sight!" There are days like today when all I want is cereal for breakfast and a light chicken dinner for supper. Yesterday I kind of took the "cure". I went to our local Rite Aide Pharmacy and used their blood pressure machine. I have been having trouble with my feet swelling. I usually blame it on all the walking I do. I h ad a feeling my blood pressure was kind of up. I was right! I have never had trouble with it before! It scared me! My Mother had high blood pressure and it wreaked havoc on her body! I know my biggest enemy is salt! I will be a good girl for a while lol! No chips, icecream, and easy on the breads.

JustLin, I had a funny visual of you levitating with Kleenex in hand lol!! I have seen a spider or two running for their life on my pillow! My next comment is only for the weak of heart, so close your eyes JL

Yesterday I got out of bed and found a small spider in the middle of my pillow, all squished! I guess he didn't scurry fast enough before I laid my head on it!!! EGADS!!!! Can you say "FAST SHOWER?" I will be looking a little closer before I go to bed from now on!!

Mary/MI said...

I almost forgot!
Thanks everyone for the Congrats on our new baby!!!

sacBarb said...

J/L, I hate when I see a spider in the bedroom and it scurries away before I can SMASH it! I even Googled a spider's lifespan because I get so creeped out! BTW, they live 1-2 years and continue to reproduce during that time. That was no comfort to me! I have a pest control company spray the outside of the house every other month and that has lessened the amount of spiders I see, but once in a while, one slips through.

So my phone rang at 6 am this morning and I saw that it was my son, Dean calling. I answered with "if you aren't calling to tell me my house is on fire, you are in big trouble." Did I mention that I am NOT a morning person? Anyway, my house wasn't on fire, but he was calling me to tell me that someone had tried to get into his house via the patio door when his wife was letting the dog out to pee. She screamed and was trying to close the door when Dean ran into the room wielding a baseball bat and pushed him out while she called 911. The man ran through their backyard with Dean following and ran into the street. BTW, Dean was in his tidy whitees and a tee shirt. The police arrived within minutes and took over the chase and they finally cornered the man, who had a weapon. Dean heard shots and the next thing he heard was "we got him and he is dead!" Dean and Deb have been a wreck all day. The story has been all over the local news. The police put yellow tape up blocking off his street and around Dean's house and the CSI people came out to get fingerprints from their patio door and footprint casts because the guy ran through the vegetable garden. And CSI doesn't clean up after themselves! As soon as they took the tape down, the media swarmed all over the neighborhood. Dean put a note on his door that asked them to please respect the family's privacy and that they had no comment, but they knocked anyway. He didn't answer the door. So, I won't be complaining anymore that my life is boring. I will just be grateful.

Dianne said...

Oh gosh, how scary. I'm so glad dean and his wife are ok. What a terrible thing to go through. I'm glad the police got the guy. Many thankful prayers on that one!!! It's scary for we night people when the phone rings early in the morning. Again, I'm so glad they are safe. Xxoo

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, oh my goodness, what a scary thing to happen!! The fact that someone died makes it even worse!! I wonder what his wrap sheet looked like? I am so glad your son and his wife were unharmed!
BTW, I am not a morning person either!
I had to get up early today to take Jim to have cataract surgery on his other eye.
I am so glad we don't have to drive there again! I hate free-ways that have confusing exits! Coming back was just as bad.
I have sighed up for Tai Chi classes every Sunday afternoon. I am hoping enough people sign up so they don't cancel. I really need to loosen up this body!

Mary/MI said...

I loved the Tai Chi class! There were about 12 of us there, all ages and sizes.
I always wanted to learn and bought a cd to learn. It was no fun doing it alone. I just didn't stick to it. This will be an hour course once a week for 10 weeks. It will be so much easier and fun to learn with a group.

Dianne said...

Hi...

MARY, Glad you liked your class. You will make more new friends too!!! I think that's always fun. How was your karaoke last night? Btw, Broncos won today!!

Barb, how are Dean and his wife? Have you talked to them since the terrible incident? They are probably still a little hyper from the whole thing. See your team won today too.

We went to see Scully yesterday and then took a drive in the mtns to see the colors changing....beautiful!! We really liked the movie too. It was very interesting and Tom Hanks did a great job. Today went to a Bronco party at my nephew's house.

That's about it. Still having on and off pain where one of the implant screws is placed.

JL....aren't you home now?

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I have talked with Dean and Deb and they are both still a little shaken. They will probably have to testify at the hearing for the officer that shot the guy. It is SOP. The media is still bugging them and they keep telling them they have no comment. They don't want their name and faces in the news. Although, they do know their names because they have been getting phone calls, which they don't answer and even Deb's daughter has gotten calls on her cell phone. She hasn't been answering any calls from numbers she doesn't recognize. I'm sure their names must be in the police report. And they guy's family are saying he was a good guy and he wouldn't have done what they are saying. Deb is afraid one of the family members is going to come to their house.

Dianne said...

I guess I'd be scared still too., barb. Thank GOD your son heard her scream. Very scary.

I saw Kayla today and it was really hard for me. It was the first time I've see her since she left. I was very emotional and kept hugging her begging her to go home....but she won't. 13 days and she'll be 18. I'm going to take her to school tomorrow as she still hasn't gone. It's a long drive to go and get her but she agreed. We will see if she's there in the am. I have to meet her in a parking lot. It's so sad.

JL....where r u? I guess I thought you were getting home Saturday.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I'm here. I just wrote a bunch of stuff but then lost internet connection and lost it all. I'm going to have to call my internet provider as I've been having trouble with this since I got home on Sunday night. So frustrating!

Just_Lin said...

Barb That is so scary about the intruder at Dean's! I'm so glad that things didn't go badly which it could have since the guy was armed. So thankful Dean and his wife are unharmed even if badly shaken up. I got a call at 6 a.m. today, too. It was one of those fake calls about the IRS coming after me. Ugh! I wish I could punch that person in the face.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Good for you for signing up for the Tai Chi class. Everything is more fun when done with others, especially any kind of exercising. You go, girl!

I had to go pick up my dog from my daughter's yesterday morning, which requires going over the Bay Bridge. The trip there was pretty normal and took about 1 hour and 10 minutes. The trip home was horrendous, though. Bumper to bumper traffic leading up to and going over the bridge. That trip took over 1 1/2 hours. It was ridiculous.

Dianne said...

Hi

Paramedics just called Tammy a couple of hours ago as Kayla and Jake found unresponsive in car in park. Police called and Kayla taken to hospital. She's ok and they wouldn't do a drug test without her permission so she's gone into the night with roommates again. Wouldn't go with parents. Ive talked to her and listened to more lies. This is terrible and I'm so scared how it's going to ever end

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Oh, this is so darn scary. I don't understand why they wouldn't do a drug test without her permission. She's still under 18 isn't she? Doesn't it just require parent's permission for juvenile?

Just_Lin said...

I've been offline because of constant problems with staying connected to internet. Couldn't find any problem with computer self diagnostics so called internet provider yesterday (AT&T) and they ran their diagnostics and could not find any problem with service coming to my house. They decided my modem was failing so I went to AT&T store and bought a new one. $81 later, still the same problem with not being able to stay connected to internet. Ugh! I called again and talked to someone else. We discovered Windows 10 update in progress behind the scenes that I didn't know about and it was taking a long, long time and taking up so much space on the broadband that there was no room to do anything else. It just now finished downloading and I have a message telling me that it will be installed at 3:30 a.m. and may take a while. Ya think?

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, ! I wonder if they did a drug test on J-ASS? He was behind the wheel wasn't he? Anybody else here in Mich would have been automatically tested! She's going to have to hit rock bottom before she wakes up! Sounds like she is getting pretty close to that!
How are you feeling? Do you think the worse is over as far as no more big surgeries?

JL, I can tell you, I would not have like that long slow ride across the bridge! I am glad you are home safe and sound!
I had forgotten about the Windows 10 installation! It ate up a lot of our allotted
mega bytes!(or is it gigs? I forget).

Today was cold! I had to dig out my sweats, hoodies and long pants! I have not worn my jeans since spring! Mother Nature was serious after the last day of summer! Temps dropped and rain set in! Jim laughed at me today. I had to go to town, so I bundled up with my long pants and jacket. He looked down at my sandals with
a funny look. I said "Nope, not giving them up yet!" LOL!!

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I'm so sorry to hear about Kayla. I have the same questions J/L has, why did they need Kayla's permission if she is still under 18? Did her parents want them to test her for drugs? What happened to J?

How are you feeling? Has the swelling gone down? What about the pain? When do you go back to the dentist?

sacBarb said...

J/L, I hope the windows 10 upload is finally finished and you have your internet back. Did you request the windows 10 update or did it just happen automatically? Kathy told me that she knew someone who didn't want it and it updated automatically.

sacBarb said...

Mary, LOL @ you not giving up your sandals. It is still hot here. It was 90 degrees yesterday and today. It's supposed to cool off on the weekend.

Just_Lin said...

Barb The Windows 10 downloaded and installed just fine and that was a while ago. What seemed to happen while I was gone was some massive update. Usually, I get notice of an update when I go to turn off the computer at night. I get a message saying don't turn off computer as there is an update to be installed and computer will turn off automatically when done. Well, none of that happened this time. I have no idea why, so I didn't know an update was even being downloaded. So now it's downloaded and set to be installed sometime during the night. Hopefully, that won't take days.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I hope your tootsies weren't cold today. :)

Mary/MI said...

JL, today was sock weather lol! It has been cold and raining off and on all week! Our Tiger baseball game was cancelled.

I was gone all day visiting friends. I had lunch with my elderly friend who wrote my families book. We had lunch at a sweet Mennonite restaurant in my home town. Then I visited my old neighbor Jim who now lives in my home town He moved into an apartment complex for seniors. He is not what I consider a "senior citizen" , but with both of his legs amputated, he needs to be around people that can be of assistance to him.

On my way home I visited his ex-wife. He worries about her because of her bad back. They are so funny. They love each other but can't stand to live together! I was shocked to have her tell me that she was going to sell her home and move to my home town (Ithaca) too! They will be living close to each other, but not together, so that will be interesting lol!

I came home, cooked dinner and crashed! I haven't been sleeping very well and it kind of caught up with me. Now I am wide awake! Hopefully Jim will not be as "active" tonight! Last night he was talking and laughing in his sleep, that along with his restless leg syndrome, made for a sleepless night for me. He rarely remembers his nightly escapades lol! Hopefully I can get my back bedroom finished up so Zoie and I can get a couple of restful nights sleep!

I hope you are all having a great week!

Good morning, HOoters. I've been sick for the last couple of days. Maybe I picked something up on the plane or maybe it was from having a fan blowing on me the whole time I was at my brother's, including while sleeping. Then when I got home and went to get the dog the following day, I had the car air conditioner blowing in my face, too. I felt so exhausted that I went to bed at 10 that night and slept for 10 hours! Anyway, I didn't even bother getting dressed for the last two days and today isn't looking hopeful, so far. I took some heavy duty cough meds last night so I got a decent sleep but now I'm coughing double-time to try and clear my lungs. I had been hoping to get my flu shot updated this week but that ain't happening while I'm like this. I just want to get it on board before my daughter and I go to Vancouver and get on the cruise ship.

There's a chance we might get a little rain on Sunday. That would certainly be welcomed. My yards look like brown, dead crap due to drought and water conservation efforts.

So, after I returned from my trip, I got on the scale and was up 3 pounds. Not too bad considering how we were eating out all the time. I just got on the scale this morning and I am up another 1 1/2 pounds in spite of being back on the Weight Watcher's point program. Maybe the gain is all mucus? LOL

Mary/MI said...

JL, You can have our rain! e have not had a dry day in a long time! My bones are aching big time! I hope you are feeling better. Being sick, sucks!
I had my flu shot and Pneumonia booster shot today. Both shoulders hurt, but the one with the booster is very painful! I can barley lift my arm! To top it off, Zoie was in a bad mood today. I went to lift her and she bit my sorest arm! We are not on speaking or hugging terms right now! I am sure she meant to only grab my hoodie sleeve, but nailed my skin along with it! She had been napping and I caught her off guard!

I have decided to take myself to the Casino tomorrow. My decision came shortly after Jim's buddy called and said he was coming over tomorrow lol!

Hello HOoters.

I had my annual eye check appointment at Kaiser yesterday and as I suspected, I need a stronger RX. Kaiser has an optometry department in the same building and it makes it really easy to just go there and get the glasses all in one trip. I checked on the soat and it added up to almost $400. I have VSP insurance for glasses and they would pay $110. I saw an ad for Costco on TV a few days ago and decided to check them out so I went there today. The total cost for the glasses, before insurance allowance was $215 and they would send in the insurance (Kaiser doesn't send the insurance forms, so I would have to pay the total and wait for reimbursement from VSP) I have a business membership at Costo and I get money back each year when I get my renewal. It is based on how much Dean and I spend each year. Dean and his wife are on my membership. So, I had a Costco check for $40 and after applying the insurance allowance and giving them my Costco check, my final total for my glasses was $65. I will be getting my glasses at Costco from now on! Of course, then I went into the other part of the store and came out $361 later! I did buy a lot of things I needed for the family reunion which is next weekend.

Mary, I hope you hit it big at the casino tomorrow. Do you usually only play the slots? Are you going back to Vegas anytime soon? Seems like it's about time to make another visit. Kathy told me you and Bev are going to be in AZ and you will be able to meet up with her. That will be nice.

sacBarb said...

J/L, I have really been trying to watch what I eat and I have lost 5 lbs. in the last month. Why does it take so long to take it off, but I can gain that much in a week? Something is wrong with this picture! I leave for Santa Maria next Friday for the family reunion which will be Saturday. Then I am going to Solvang with my sisters-in-law and two of my Hubby's cousins and this year I'm staying another week in Solvang because one SIL has rented the same suite for another week and some women we went to school with are going to join us. I am only staying the second week because I asked a woman who went to school with my SIL and me and lives in Sac is riding with me to Santa Maria so I won't have to drive alone. I'm sure I will gain the 5lbs and probably even more, by the time I get back home!

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I hope you are feeling better.

sacBarb said...

Waving a wing to Jodi.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Your reunion and visit with family and friends sounds like fun. That's nice that you won't have to drive alone. I have been contemplating driving down to my brother's in November when he has his knee surgery but since I have t urinate so often, I think it would be a pain in the butt. It wouldn't be so bad if I had someone going with me but I've become kind of a chicken regarding long distance driving alone. I probably watch too many movies. LOL

Today really sucked. I was fine until I had my coffee then I started getting stomach pains. Long story short; I eventually vomited a bunch of times. Mostly I have slept or dozed all day. Yesterday, I thought I was finally better from my cold and had a nice day out running errands, now this. I just finished having some chicken noodle soup and saltine crackers. So far, so good. My poor dog is soooo bored with me. Fortunately, she will have a fun outing with canine friends tomorrow.

Just_Lin said...

Mary As it turned out, there was no rain for us. Not even a quick shower. I was very disappointed. I'm up to date on my vaccines except for this year's flu shot. Hopefully, I'll be well enough next week to get that updated.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, I didn't come out ahead at the Casino, but It sure was nice getting away for a while! I am meeting Beverly and a friend of hers in Vegas next Thurs. We are renting a car and going to spend the night around the Grand Canyon. I have never been there. We will then drive to Phoenix and hopefully meet Zona and Karina. Judy was going to try to make it too. Kind of a mini HoFest lol!You will be at your reunion while we are road trippin'.

JustLin, I wonder what the hell is going on with your tummy! You don't have time for that! I will send some good ju ju your way!

You guys would have cracked up at me today! I had an " I Love Lucy" moment!
I had my Tai Chi class today. I was so proud of myself! I put a roast with taters and carrots in the oven before I left. I figured they would be done by the time I got back.
I went into the class and picked a spot in the back where I feel more comfortable. We all started the routine we learned last week. Then it happened! No one stopped at the end, they kept going with the entire routine! They were so graceful and obviously knew what they were doing! I was thinking "what the what?" Did they some how get in more classes that I missed? Like "Lucy" I tried to fake it and tried copying the person in front of me. It wasn't long before I realized I was an hour early and in the advanced class! LOL!! I finally realized I didn't recognize anyone in the room from my other class! I told the instructor and he kind of chuckled and said it was ok and that I could stay if I wanted. He told me, "Nothing happens by accident. You were meant to be here for a reason". I couldn't believe the people that went out of their way to give me tips and run through the routine with me over and over! The instructor said it helps them when they help others! What an awesome attitude!
I stayed for my regular class. I had to call Jim and have him turn the oven down, which by phone, with Jim, was a job in itself lol!
Anyhoo, the roast was awesome :) and I got a free advanced class tutoring!!

Dianne said...

Hi......MARY, You are so funny. Bet you'll feel all that exercise tomorrow. Good for you doing both classes. I was wondering if you ever use your crockpot for pot roast or anything? I think a lot of things turn out good in it. Did Jim's friend come while you were at the casino?
Sounds like a fun Arizona trip. I'm glad you will finally get to meet a Kathy.

Barb, your reunion sounds fun. Are you doing sll the food? Glad you have someone to drive with you and can stay longer. Is it far from you where you are going? Wow...I'm going to look into Costco for glasses next time. It cost me $537 for regular and prescription sunglasses and I kept my same frames!! Hopefully, after I have cataract surgery in January...I won't need glasses. I wish I would have gone to Costco this time..I didn't even think of it.

Jl, I hope you're feeling better. Oh, I hate throwing up!!! Maybe you ate something wrong that caused it since you were feeling better. Yuck!!
I had my flu shot a couple of weeks ago. I just looked at calendar and realized I have to go for blood work tomorrow. I al out forgot all about it. I went to the movie today and saw a Bridgette Jones Baby. It had Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth in it. It was pretty cute. You don't need to have seen the others to see this one. It's a brand new start.

Yesterday we went to my grandsons football game and the to the Apple Store for three hours. Seems my iPad had a hairline crack and was causing some issues. We had it in two weeks ago for the same issues so since we had done that it was under warranty and I got a new one. I got a new iPhone 7 during the week. When we came home home all of a sudden three years worth of emails showed up,n iPad and phone!! I had to delete EACH ONE SEPARATELY on the phone and iPad. Usually if you delete on one it deletes on the other. Oh no, not this time. It took forever. Back to Apple tomorrow to see what needs to be corrected on it. I get so frustrated with these things.

We went to older grandsons game Friday night. It was their homecoming but they lost. My grandson gets to play a lot.

Kayla says they are being evicted if she doesn't get $500 towards rent. It keeps going up for her couch space. ANDY's wife WENDY went there Friday night to bring her home but she wouldn't budge. It bothers me so much when I know she hasn't eaten. I have to completely remind myself that she has two homes she can go to anytime....it's hard for me.

Well, that's about it. Hope you're all doing good and jl, that you get better

sacBarb said...

Mary you are so funny. Just think, you got tqo classes for the price of one! :)

sacBarb said...

J/L, How long are you going to stay with your brother when he has the surgery?
I leave for Santa Maria on Friday at 7am. My neighbor came over today and I showed him how to arm/disarm the alarm and all about feeding the cats, so I hope it goes well. I'm sure it will! He really likes cats and had four until each of them got old and died. Now they have a pretty husky puppy with one blue eye and one brown eye. They took her from friends who were going to take her to the pound because they didn't want her anymore.

I hope you are feeling better by now. We had thunder and golf ball sized hail last night and today. it is nice and cool for everyone but me right now. I have the little room heater on in the computer room. LOL

Dianne said...

Jl, how far of a drive to your brothers house?

Just_Lin said...

Barb I don't know how long I'll be staying at my brother's when he has his surgery. I'm guessing a couple of weeks. He has an appointment with the doctor this week to get a surgery date set and he will find out how long he will need help in the house. He does have friends who can help him out as far as grocery shopping and stuff like that. My brother seems to think he will only need help for a few days after surgery. He also thinks he'll be able to drive a few days after surgery since it is his left knee getting done this time. I think he's being optimistic but what do I know?

We've been having a light sprinkle this morning. It's enough to make the deck all wet but when I look down at the parched ground down below, it's making no difference at all.

Don't forget to leave a note with your neighbor giving him permission to authorize medical services for your kitties, just in case.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne OMG at 3 years of emails showing up. That would be a lot! Just goes to show that nothing is really deleted.

How are you doing with your new teeth? Are you eating normally now?

So this is Kayla's idea of being an adult; sleeping on someone else's couch with no way to improve the situation. I would think the romance of the situation would be running thin pretty soon. She doesn't need rescuing. Just keep reminding yourself that she has two homes she can go to when she's good and ready.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I haven't made a roast like that in years. It sure sounds good. Your men folk are very lucky that you are such a good cook.

That's funny that you crashed a different class. Are you feeling the extra workout today? Because of being sick, my level of activity has been nearly zero. This is not conducive to weight loss or anything else, for that matter.

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, good to see you in the nest again! You have been through a lot! Hubby had both eyes done recently and no longer uses hi glasses. He will be getting a new prescription so he can read.
Kayla is so blinded right now that she can only see through rose colored glasses! I hope no one gives them the $500! I had a lot of crushes when I was young, a couple "I don't think I can live without him" kind, but thank God I was able to get out before I ruined my life!

JL, I have made many roasts, but the oven way seems to be the best. We are lucky in that we know where our beef comes from. Our neighbor raises his own cattle and sends to the butcher. We usually share it with them. We get a 1/4 beef each time in the freezer. We get to chose what we want, such as hamburger, steaks, and best of all, roasts with the bone in! The meat is always tender.
I hope you are feeling better.

SacBarb,How sad that someone can just give up on a pet! I can't imagine giving Zoie up even when she gets on my nerves lol! I'm glad she now has a forever home!
You mentioned "Santa Maria" and I automatically thought about Spain! We stayed at "El Puerto De Santa Maria". I sure do miss traveling abroad!

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I think we were typing at the same time and I didn't see your post until today. I logged off as soon as my comment posted.

I go to the family reunion our of obligation, but I actually dread it each year and even more so this year because I am hosting. I don't have to provide all the food, just the meat (tri tip), bread, and birthday cake for my FIL. The host assigns side dishes to the other attendees, but I always bring extra water and snacke in case someone forgets. This year someone is bringing beans, salad, deviled eggs, and soft drunks. Anyone that wants alcohol will bring their own. The drive to Santa Maria from Sac takes about six hours which is why I don't like to do it alone. One year when I drove alone I arranged to call Kathy and we talked for about four hours. I have OnStar in my car and we used that phone. I think that's the longest I have ever talked on the phone. LOL

I am so sorry Kayla is still away from home. Maybe if she doesn't get the $500 she will come home. She may finally realize that she can't keep preying on people's generosity and as J/L said, being an adult isn't that easy! Why does she have to come up with the money? Why can't J-ass come up with it? Of course we know why, but maybe she will finally realize that he is just using her!

sacBarb said...

Mary, every time you post about what you are cooking ir makes me want to come and live with you! LOL

My neighbor is an big animal lover. Like you, I can't understand why someone would just give up an an animal after having it for almost four years. His dog is such a sweetheart, too. She is very friendly and doesn't bark too much. He or his partner takes her for a walk twice a day, usually along the river levee. I am so grateful that he volunteered to look after my cats while I am gone. It will save me about $600, plus the cats will be in their own environment and not cooped up in a cage at the vet's.

sacBarb said...

J/L, Thanks for reminding me to leave a permission note with my neighbor. I forgot all about doing that. I'm sure he won't need it, but it's good to leave one, just in case.

Is your brother having a complete knee replacement? I couldn't drive for about six weeks when I had that surgery, even with my left leg. I think it was longer with my right leg.

Dianne said...

Jl, I couldn't drive for six weeks either. I had to have someone take me to Pt a couple of times a week. I think he's in for a big surprise. Knee recovery takes some time. Barb, remember when I had my last one and was so scared? I'm always scared about medical things...knees, teeth, etc.

Barb, yes six hours is a long drive alone. I get sleepy. lol you talking to Kathy for four hours!! She's kept me awake many a drive too. How many people an the reunion? I'm sure they will all enjoy it. Boy, that's a lot of money your saving with you cats staying home!!

Jl, I'm doing pretty good with the teeth. They still feel very clunky on the inside and I'll be glad when I get the final smooth one in permanently but that won't be until the first part of feb. I've done Mexican food chips gently even....very gently. I'm having a hard time with sandwiches that come on toasted bread for some reason. I need the soft bread. I'm actually eating many more things then I thought I would be eating. It still seems very strange to me when in Honk my teeth are gone. Did I tell you I got a Coach purse and wallet out of the deal? You know...the tooth fairy let me order a new one for my get well gift!

Kayla texted me tonight for gas money and I told her no. I told her I'd come get her and take her to dinner though. She said she's been sick all day. Her dad went to pick her up for school but once again she didn't go at the last minute. I asked her tonight since Jake lives "with his grandparents and works full time" why he couldn't help her out? She said he has things to pay for...you'd think he'd be taking care of his girlfriend. She's pretty sure they are getting evicted. She wanted the $500 towards rent. She's supposed to be in court tomorrow...we shall see if she shows up. I'm afraid she's sick so much because she doesn't eat. It worries me. Her 18th big deal bday is Sunday. Very sad as we should be having a party.

Mary, I too hope she gets past this but I have my doubts right now. I don't feel there is a light at the end of the tunnel right now and that scares me a lot. I always want to come live with you too like Barb. You cook such yummy things.

My friend received tickets to a Trump rally tonight here in Denver. She was just curious..I was teasing her about wearing her red hat. I'll be interested to here about it. At least she wasn't on the news!'!!

I'm making soup in the crockpot tomorrow for Louis. You know me...Betty Crocker.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I am going to make soup today, also, but not in the crock pot. I am going to make a vegetable soup that is a Weight Watcher recipe. I can stuff myself with 3 bowls of the stuff and it's only 1 point. I do add tomatoes and extra seasonings but it turns out quite tasty. I gained 3 lbs while at my brother's. Today is my weigh in day and it looks like I've lost 1 1/4 lbs of it. Maybe I'll be back to square one by the time my daughter and I fly up to Vancouver for the cruise then I'll be gaining weight again. What a vicious cycle! At least on the ship you have to walk a distance to go eat. Being sick most of the last week, my activity level went way down as I mostly napped and binge watched TV.

I forgot to answer your question. Driving to my brother's in southern California would take approximately 8 hours, not counting the bathroom breaks I would need to take. I just don't think I have the patience for it now. It would be different if I was on a road trip with someone else and we were enjoying the sights along the way but I would just be interested in getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Thankfully, I had no more stomach issues after that one day. I do still have a cough, though, which is not unusual for me due to my asthma issues. I seem to always get a lingering cough. I'm not feeling too bad, though, although this overcast weather makes me want to stay inside and be cozy and lazy.

Having that family reunion every year seems a bit much. Are you the one that has to travel the farthest?

Just_Lin said...

Mary I don't think I ever made a roast in the crock pot but maybe my husband did. He enjoyed cooking. I haven't had my crock pot out in a long time, probably because I'm just cooking for me now. Several years ago, when my son and his kids were living with me for a few months, I used it a few times. It was kind of handy. The grandkids would look through the glass top at what was cooking inside. It almost seemed like magical stuff was happening in there. LOL

Dianne said...

My soup turned out good...per Louis. I took Emilee to dinner so didn't try it. It sure made a lot so I'll freeze some. We had a nice dinner and caught up. She followed me home and I gave her my desktop computer, monitor, etc. I don't use it ever and it's like new. She was very happy as she's uses a laptop but wanted something bigger for school work.

Kayla went to court today. She had fine waived and was given 24 hours community service to be done by January for having weed in position as a minor. Her dad went with her. She said they got evicted from apt for not paying rent so three of them slept in a car last night. She says she has a place to stay tonight.

Jl, I think a pot roast turns out good in the crockpot. It's very tender and with potatoes and vegetables it's pretty good.
Yes, that is a long drive to your brothers alone. I go to weigh in tomorrow and now that I'm eating again, I'm sure I'll have a gain.
I get nails done at 5:30 tomorrow too.

It was sad st lunch today...my friend was talking about her granddaughter and ordering cap and gown, etc. I still have hope but it is slim.

Dianne said...

Hello.....well, surprisingly I lost 4 pounds at WW today. I really thought I'd have again this week. Very happy!! I'm not eating much candy since my dental work. I'm scared with nuts in my favorite so maybe that's helping. Went to my weekly Wednesday lunch to celebrate. We went to Village Inn and it was free pie day...I had pumpkin!!

Kayla is back in the car again. She asked her dad for a hotel room but he turned her down. It's only going to 50 tomorrow so it will be cold. She wrote a big long letter on how she won't go home to either house because they did the restraining order. She said they took her best friend from her. It should be an interesting bday for her Sunday.

I'm going to dinner with my friend Barb tomorrow night.

I don't have much to talk about tonight. Hope you're all ok.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Who pays for Kayla's car and insurance? Who pays for her phone? Until she is really supporting herself, including car and phone, she is just play acting at being an adult. Maybe someone needs to remind her of that. I hope no one is rewarding her with big expensive gifts for her birthday. It's time for her to grow up and face reality.

Congrats on your weight loss. As of yesterday, I at least got rid of those 3 lbs I gained while at my brother's house. By the way, his doctor/surgeon said he should be able to drive a couple of weeks after he has the left knee replacement. When he does the right knee, it will probably be 6 weeks. He has his surgery date for November 15 and I got my airline tickets. I'll be down there for 3 weeks. After that, he does have friends who can help with errands and stuff if he needs it.

Dianne said...

Kayla doesn't have a car. Her dad took it a long time ago from her. He does pay for her phone. She's in jakes car last night and tonight. It's going to freezing tonight. No, none of us are giving her bday gifts. It's bothering me but I know in my head it's right. She wanted her bday $to get a hotel room for the night. She didn't ask me but her dad. He told her there was no $ this year. I guess she's out of school for sure as she's missed so many days. I just ordered senior pictures not long ago. As I say over and over again....I simply can't believe it!! Jake goes to court tomorrow..if he shows up.

That's good you are able to stay with your brother so long. Good for him getting to drive so soon. I wasn't allowed to. He'll be about healed when you leave. I hope he does great thru the surgery. He will be ready to get that other one done before you know it.

Hi Barb snd Mary.

Mary/MI said...

Just a quick fly-by. Nothing overly exciting going on here in Mich.
Got my hair did, mani/pedi, and getting things ready to pack for my trip next Thurs.
Tomorrow I will be going to my 3rd Tai Chi class. I will NOT be joining the advanced class this time lol!! I have been practicing the moves on my deck. I think I finally have it mastered! I was having trouble mirroring my moves to the opposite side! I am a bit dyslectic. I ordered a video to watch at home. I will be missing one class, so hopefully it will help keep me up to date.
I will be visiting my new Great Grand baby this Monday. I can't wait! I will post pics on FB.
Have a great week end!!!

Just_Lin said...

Mary When I first read your comments, I thought you wrote that you were practicing your moves on your desk. LOL It made for a great visual.

I'll have to deal with nails this coming week. I got my hair done last Thursday. I am pulling things out of the closet and figuring out what I think I want to take on the cruise. It's only a 7 day cruise but there will be two formal nights. I don't know if I want to take something different for each one or just wear the same thing. We will be spending time in Vancouver before the cruise so I need to be smart about how much I take. We don't leave until a week from Monday but I'm trying to get some of this decision making out of the way.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne It's almost Sunday here. I guess this will not be the birthday that any of you used to envision for Kayla. Is she still working?

I went to lunch with a couple of friends and then we went to see "The Girl on the Train". It was really good. Emily Blunt was excellent in it as was Justin Thoreaux. I was looking forward to seeing it as I had really liked the book.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I hope you had a smooth trip to the reunion and that you are having a great time.

Dianne said...

Hi... no, kayla doesn't work. I don't quite know what she does all day. It's been a sad day for us today. We thought there would be a big celebration today...but things have changed drastically. I talked to her today. A friend of andys gave her $40 for her bday. None of us are giving her money. She and Jake went to eat and then to the mall. She got a new belly ring. Is that's priorities when you don't have food. She's still sleeping in car with Jake. She says she's going to school tomorrow but she tells me that every night.

Jake went to court Friday and they didn't sentence him. It will be done on nov 7 to either home detention or jail foe 120 days. His grandmother showed up and he asked if he could live with her and she said no so he called her a stupid bitch and she left. I'll be surprised if he shows up for the sentencing since nothing happens to him. The restraining order violation was dismissed!!

Boy, your cruise came up fast. I'll bet you will have a lot of fun. You three are all going to be on the road and I will be in the nest all alone. I think I'd like to see that movie. Barb doesn't want to go so I'll guess I'll go alone unless I can get Louis to go.

Mary, how was your class today? Have fun seeing that baby tomorrow.

Met my friend from Wyoming today. We meet half way between our houses. Pretty soon it will be snowing and we won't be able to go for a few months. Didn't do much else this weekend. Took dinner to my brothers last night. No football games this weekend. One was too far and the other my grandson has pneumonia and couldn't play. He's better today.

Broncos lost so didn't miss much not seeing that game today. I listened on radio coming home from lunch.

Dianne said...

Barb, are you behaving and having fun too?

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Good morning. I'm up unusually early and am drinking my coffee. I took some heavy duty prescription cough medicine last night but only slept about 5 hours before I woke up coughing. It was time to take more cough syrup so I did that and then read for a while. I tried to go back to sleep but my mind started worrying about what to pack for the upcoming cruise. I hate when my mind does that! I have plenty of time to get those decisions finalized. I don't need to do it at 5 in the morning 6 days before I leave.

Well, Kayla is officially an adult now so I guess she's decided that living in a car is the way to go. I thought she had a job at a pizza place. She seems to get jobs easily enough but then throws the opportunity away. It will not be easy to get and keep a job when she has no shower or other bathroom facilities to get ready in. Being homeless is a tough life and the fact that she is going that route on purpose really baffles me. What's Jake-ass doing for money?

Yesterday I went to Macy's and bought a couple of new tops. On the way out of the store, I set off the alarm. The salesgirl had failed to remove a security tag. I was not a happy camper. It's a good thing that I go on trips occasionally as that is what spurs me on to do the dreaded clothes shopping.

Just_Lin said...

Yesterday I bought a new pair of jeans and I wore them today. Tomorrow I will be returning them. I got dressed, went to lunch, and by the time lunch was over, the pants were so darn baggy that I felt uncomfortable in them. I hate when that happens.

Yesterday I also got a flu shot and now I have a palm-size red, warm, swollen area on my arm. I'm such a sensitive princess. LOL

I hope everyone is doing okay. We are expecting some real rain on Friday and then again on Sunday. My daughter is going to come down on Saturday and pick up the dog and take her back to her house. Her ex-boyfriend will be taking care of our dogs while we on our trip. We go to Vancouver on Monday and get on the ship on Wednesday.

Just_Lin said...

Mary That new addition to your family sure is cute!

Dianne said...

Hi.....ms Princess ...I didn't have any reaction to my flu shot. I went to dr yesterday for my diabetic checkup and I'm starting with a little bronchitis so she put me on prednisone. I have that cough.

I had a long breakfast with Kayla today. Jake had an errand so she was allowed to meet me. I had written out a list of things to talk to her about today. She cried..I cried. She's only short two credits to graduate in December if she went to school today...she didn't. She's not going to graduate. It makes us so sad. This is a girl a that says she wants to be a nurse. We had a decent talk with me disagreeing with most everything but she feels like I am supportive of her. I'm not actually but I want to keep contact with her. It was an emotional day.

Jl, are you packed yet? You are developing my packing bad habits. Getting excited for trip? I'm excited for you. I gained .8 pounds at WW yesterday. I guess that's what I get for eating again!!!

MARY, I hope you have a lot of fun and enjoy finally getting to meet Kathy.

Barb, I thinking of you. Will be glad to hear from you again.

Dianne I'm glad you were able to have a long breakfast and visit with Kayla. I'm so sorry that she is making things so much harder for herself. She can still graduate, just not when planned, and she can still be a nurse, eventually. She's hit a pot hole on her road but that doesn't mean she won't ever get to where she wants to go.

I didn't make the best food choices today. So far I'm just kind of stuck at the same weight. I did lose the 3 pounds I had gained while at my brother's but that's as far as I've gotten. We both know that weight gain will happen when I'm on that cruise.

No, I'm not packed yet. I won't do that until Sunday. I just have stuff out all over the bedroom. LOL It looks like we will be having rain for most of our trip so I better get out the umbrella so I don't forget to take it.

I'm packed. :)

Jl, have a really good time. Hope the weather is nice. When will unbe home? A chunk of my temp teeth broke a little bit ago on a damn pretzel. I go see surgeon tomorrow and dentist on Tuesday. At lease it's in the back. I'm pissed!

Barb, are you home yet?

Breakfast with Kayla was nice. We both had tears but it was just good to see her. I e heard from her over the weekend and theybrvstsying with a friend so at least not in the car....right now.

Louis and I went to the movie this am to see the movie about the Oil spill. I forget the name but it was good. After I stayed by myself and went to see The Girl on The Train. I didn't read the book but I thought the movie was really good. Very suspenseful. We went to my grandsons football game Friday night and they won and he got to play a lot. He has the most yards of anyone in the league for returning kickoffs.

MARY, looks like you are having fun with our friends on your trip. I think u get home this week too

Helloooo

I got back from Solvang late last night. My SIL had to change plans and had to cancel the second week she had planned for Solvang. So, my two Sisters-in-law and two of my Hubby's cousins and I went to Solvang last Sunday after the reunion and the cousins and one SIL left on Tuesday and the other SIL's classmates arrived on Wednesday and left with us yesterday. We had a great time, talking and laughing, mostly about how old we are and comparing aches and pains. Did a LOT of eating and drinking and I gained the five lbs. I lost before I went, plus three more. UGHHHH!!!!

sacBarb said...

J/L, Have a good time in Vancouver and on the cruise. When will you be home from the cruise?

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I wish I could give you a magic wand that would fix all Kayla's troubles. I don't understand why Jake-ass gets away with so much. Until there is a real consequence for him, he will probably keep doing the same thing he is doing now!

sacBarb said...

Mary, Your new great grand baby is a cutie.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Glad you had fun. I have been doing some stress eating lately and am up 2 lbs. I don't get back from the cruise until afternoon of the 26th. By the time we get our baggage, a cab, and actually get back to my house it will be about 4:30 p.m. I will have to do some laundry, I'm sure, so I don't expect to drive up to your house until the next morning. I'm looking forward to visiting with you and Lynn. More weight gain will ensue, I'm sure.

sacBarb said...

J/L, Ha! I found a bottle of Vodka that is gluten free because Lynn has been trying to eat gluten free, so there is that! Haven't decided what food to get, yet. Keep in touch so we'll know when you will arrive.

Mary/MI said...

Hello gals!
I think I have finally settled into my old boring routine since being home! You all know the routine after being away lol! Gross-ery shopping and laundry on top of the list! I asked the guys what they wanted for supper. I thought they would say steak, enchiladas, meatloaf or roast, nope, they both craved hotdogs, beans and FF LOL!! After I boil their dogs, I remove the water and let them lightly brown, slice them part way down and add strips of cheese. I am so glad they are easy to please lol!!

Dianne, I had already met Kathy. Her and Randy picked me up when Beverly didn't make her "stand-by" flight before going to Palm Springs.
I can't believe the bad luck you have with your teeth, even your temps!!

JL, Yay, you asre all packed! I loved Vancouver! Enjoy your trip. I hope the rain stays away!! I am still in awe of my Gr Grand-baby! I just wish they lived closer. I know it's only a couple of hrs away, but in Michigan, Nove. through March are such bad travel days! I am such a chicken!

SacBarb, Are you and JL having a mini Ho-fest? I am so glad you had a good trip with no road/car problems! I lol @ "comparing aches and pains" and talking about getting old! We should all get together and discuss our diets lol!!

Time to drag my ass to bed. I didn't sleep very well on my trip. Peeps sleeping habits can be so different. Bev. likes all lights out & quiet. I was glad I took my pen light with a flashlight on the tip lol! I am used to having the tv on and Jim snoring. I slept right through his snoring the first night home lol!!!

Mary/MI said...

JL, I didn't try to say " Yay, you asre all packed! : as in "your arse" lol!I meant " Yay, you "are" all packed! My fat fingers need to go to WW!

Dianne said...

Hello. ..... glad to see you back Mary. Looks like you had a lot of fun. How did you like the Grand Canyon? We do get so used to our own sleep habits. I don't like a tv or radio on either....nice and quiet for sleep time. Do you sleep with tv on all night?

I went to breakfast with a Kayla again. It's so nice to see her. Jake-ass had her phone so there was no bothering with him calling...nice.

I am really uncomfortable with these temp teeth. I wish I could have the final. I had to the dentist Tuesday to try and get broken part fixed on temp. It already came off before i left the parking lot and now it's rough and hurts. I'm scared again to eat anything. These are going To be long months.

Tomorrow I have an appt with Apple for a phone issue and then Louis is taking my car in for oil change, etc. Tomorrow night we will go to my grandsons game. I'm a little nervous about the stadium for handicap as we haven't been to this one before as it's an away game BUT it's near our house.

Barb, sounds like a party at your house coming up. Wish I could come. It also sounds like you had a nice time on your vacation. Are you home for awhile now?

Dianne said...

Hi....well, we lost our football game tonight and it was getting chilly out there. My grandson played good and made a touchdown. It was nice this time as the game was by our house for once instead of across town.

Tammys bday is Monday and she'll be out of town so we are going to breakfast tomorrow and then I have an open house next door that I will go to for awhile to be neighborly.

That's about it for my exciting weekend. Barb and I will go out to eat on Sunday.

What are your plans

sacBarb said...

Dianne. you are welcome to come to Sac anytime.

So sorry your teeth are still giving you problems. For the amount of money they are costing, they should be able to get the temporary ones to stay together until you can get the permanent ones.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I guess you could say we are having a mini Ho Fest. Lynn and Just Lin are coming to Sac for a few days. The weather has been really nice all this week, but next week they are predicting rain. :(

Dianne said...

Barb, these temps are just plastic so I have to be really careful. I think I was getting too comfortable. I just wish I did t have to wait until Jan/feb for the final. Thanks for the invite. I'd love to be going there with you all. I'd really like you all to come visit here too. I don't have a bedroom but I'd sure show you a good time.

We are having great weather too. It was 84 yesterday. Should be really nice for !Monday night football here. We've lost our last two ga es so we need to get moving. Our quarterback has been out too. It looked like our whole team was gone last week. The raiders were a game ahead of us but luckily they lost last week...whew!

Mary, what are you doing? How's Jim adjusting to the new dog? What about Zoie?

Jl, it looks like you are having a nice trip. Isn't it nice to just get away?

Kayla went for an interview Friday that she really wanted but Jake got her there a half an hour late. They interviewed but called her yesterday to tell her she didn't get the job. I told her not hardly when u can't even be on time for the interview!

Dianne said...

Yes.....we won our game tonight!! Broncos look pretty darn good. We are tied with the Raiders for first place. It was 73 degrees at kickoff tonight. Perfect football weather. Wish I was there. I still gave season tickets but sell them every year.

I've been doing fall organizing in the bedroom and have every drawer and cabinet cleaned out. My next step is the closet shelves. I even have an empty drawer. After this room, I'll move on to my office. I have three bags full to donate and haven't even started on clothes. It's a slow process because I rest too much.

Not much else going on. You are all quiet these days. I think jl gets home tomorrow.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I understand about having to rest a lot. I have to do that too. I went to Costco and just got home. Now I have to rest a few minutes before I can get all the stuff in the house. It was a good day to go to Costco because it's too close to payday for the state workers and they don't have money. Hardly anyone was in the store. I'll talk to Lynn and J/L about visiting you. Maybe they would be up for it, although the weather is going to get cold and snowy soon, so that wouldn't be a good time to visit.

I'm still praying that Kayla will dump the J-ass, although I don't say it that way, because I'm not sure God would like it. LOL

Thanks so much for the birthday card. I do remember all those things and I also realize that it does mean I am old! :-)

Hi all!
Dianne, Hooray for the Broncs!! Hell, even out Lions won lol!
Jim is doing great with his pup. He is already fussing over way too many things He is like an old Mother hen! LOL! I think Queenie is good for him. He takes her for walks and has taken over all her feedings.
He went to the Casino today and left instructions on when to feed her! Geesh!

SacBarb, I had absolutely no "rest time" today! After walking both dogs separately, and doing the laundry, not to mention I had a flat tire on my Jeep, well, tomorrow doesn't look too promising either lol! I have to take Zoie for her yearly check-up, get my tire fixed and fix dinner. Jim has an appt. with his eye Dr. for new glasses, so he will be no help! I am also getting my equipment ready for our Halloween DJ job this week end. Oye Vey!!

Our temps have been dropping :( I put away all my shorts and dug out my long pants, sweatshirts, sweaters abd sweatpants...booh!!!

Dianne said...

Hi.....Mary, you need take time to rest. When U get my age you will see what I mean. I'm gone every Day but I'm usually home most nights. Once in awhile I'll have a dinner and then I feel like I go from lunch to dinner. Today was one of those days. I had a late lunch and then unexpectedly met Kayla at 6:30. She wanted to meet earlier but I told her I had to rest for awhile. Sounds like you have fun plans for Halloween. Will you dress in costume? Why does Jim have to get glasses after just having the surgery?

Barb, maybe you guys could look at coming in the Spring. I don't think you'd like it in the winter...especially JL. It sure would be fun to see you guys. Maybe even Mary could hop over for a couple of days. Thank you so much for continuing to pray for kayla. It's so hard to see her like she is right now. She told me she'd like to dress up for Halloween and I told her to be a homeless person. Indhouldnt have said it I guess because I could see it made her feel bad. The thing is...she's not homeless like she thinks. She has two homes that would welcome her back. I took her to some stores to get applications and she has an interview tomorrow. Hopefully, she can get there on time.

Do you have any plans for your birthday? When are the gals coming?

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Lynn arrives tomorrow and J/L will be here on Thursday. Her cruise ends tomorrow.
We don't have firm plans yet, but Lynn mentioned she would like to go to Napa, which is about 90 minutes from here, so it is doable. We will talk more about it tomorrow.

Dianne said...

Be sure you and JL keep in touch with me on the blog or I'll be lonely and bugging Mary. Have a fun time and don't forget to talk about a Spring Denver trip. You will have a fun birthday celebrating with those girls!!

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, you are not much older than me, remember?
Jim has a bit of trouble ready small print, so he had to get bifocals.
I don't usually dress up to DJ. I used to, but it was hard to see my puter screen and work my keyboard with costumes on. I just wear black, and dress up my DJ table.

Barb, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Will you be tipping one tonight??
You gals have a great time! It's so much fun having "mini ho-fests!! Hopefully some day we can all get together again!
I prolly won't be online too much tomorrow except for my iphone. I will be busy getting ready for the DJ job. I have to pack my Jeep and hope I don't forget anything! So many cables, wires, speakers, light & stands etc.to pack! Some places have bad electrical outlets, or need long extension cords to reach my equipment. You never know until you get there. We do know what to expect tomorrow as we have been there before. One time they lost power! Yah just never know lol!~

The pup is growing and doing great. She is very smart and learning commands quickly.

Jim just made reservations for a few days in Vegas. I told him to go, that I would watch the dogs. He needs to get away. I told him I do it lol!!

Well, my back is aching sitting here, so I will lay down for a bit and use my phone for FB....lATER

Just_Lin said...

Hi, HOoters! Well, I got home yesterday and I'm still sick and I'm tired. I had a great time on the cruise with my daughter and a great time after that with Lynn and Barb. I wish I hadn't brought cold germs with me as I ended up passing it on to Barb. Initially, I thought it was just my allergies acting up from the air in the airplane. I'm going to have to go to the gross-ry store today as I have nothing in the house except coffee and canned soups. I should probably stock up on orange juice and Kleenex. LOL

Mary How cute that Jim is so smitten with his new puppy! That's great and what a good influence she is on him getting him out for walks. You know when he goes to Vegas he'll be calling to check on her and make sure you are feeding her correctly. LOL

Dianne Maybe Kayla needs to start looking more realistically at her long-term goal of wanting to be a nurse. That requires education and the easiest way to get that is by living at home where you are supported, emotionally and financially, so you can concentrate on your studies in order to reach that goal. Sleeping in a car is not going to get her where she wants to go......that is, if she's even serious about wanting to be a nurse.

Barb I hope you are feeling better today. i'm so sorry that I made you sick. :( After leaving your house, I went to Elizabeth's to get the dog. I thought it would be too late to take her our for a birthday lunch but her 1:30 conference call got cancelled so we went out to lunch, after all. Since I had just had breakfast with you a little over an hour before (I didn't tell her that), I just had some soup which seemed appropriate with this cold, anyway.
