Visit to the jewelry store

by Dianne

A balding, white haired man walked into a jewelry store this past Friday evening with a beautiful much younger gal at his side. He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend.

The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a $5,000 ring. The man said, 'No, I'd like to see something more special.'

At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought another ring over. 'Here's a stunning ring at only $40,000" the jeweler said.

The lady's eyes sparkled and her whole body trembled with excitement. The man seeing this said, 'We'll take it.'
The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the man stated, "By check. I know you need to make sure my check is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to verify the funds; I'll pick the ring up Monday afternoon."
On Monday morning, the jeweler angrily phoned the old man and said "Sir, there's no money in that account.

''I know,' said the old man...'But let me tell you about my weekend.’

Hi....JL, I don't like cauliflower at all. I know a lot of people at ww use it but it doesn't sound good to me. Good for you doing it though. I had pasta today and will tomorrow ...not good for my calories. Drinking the gross water with it but I need to do more than that with points. I will miss a week after this weeks weigh in as we are going to South Dakota for four days. I don't think that will be good for me either. Lol
We are going to have a cooler week until Thursday...in the 70's and I'm glad. I haven't heard of that show you're going to but I'm not really up on shows anymore. How long are you going to grow your hair? I try a little and then it starts flipping up.

Mary, how was the reunion? Did anyone look different enough that you didn't recognize them? Tell us all about it. I had mine a couple of years ago too. I don't think mine are planning any more reunions. It would be fun at sixty years...maybe.

Barb, what's new with you? We went to the mountains on Friday and met some friends of Louis's for lunch. Had lunches and didn't do much else over the weekend. I braved Walmart today, which I never do on a weekend but parking was perfect so I went in to get some throw rugs. Of course, I ended up with five bags later.

Had my nails done on Friday. I went four weeks this time and they still looked pretty good. I usually can't go over three weeks. It liking my new car just trying to get used to a few things like how the mirrors light up when a car is next to you.

That's about it.

From 61-again Hi..Well, I did something to my back yesterday. I barely leaned over and a shooting pain happened. I can bend over but can hardly lean out of the bed and turning over hurts. I guess I'll call the dr tomorrow and probably go in and see PA. Maybe I can get a muscle relaxer. It really hurts.

I had my two meals of pasta today. I can feel the weight gain. Ugh. We are going to a fancy dinner tomorrow night for My ex son In law's wife. I'm Going to have a terrible weigh in. It's too hard!!

Rainy and in the 60's today. Nice and cool. Love it. They are saying we are going to have an early winter...not loving that though

Dianne I'm so sorry about your back. I hope you can get something to relieve the pain. My back once went out so bad that my husband had to help me put on pants and shoes. I don't know what I'd do now if it went out that bad again. Not get dressed, I guess.

Don't worry too much about your day of pasta. Maybe your weight will be down, anyway. I made a weight watcher soup recipe last night (no cauliflower). There was carrot, celery, onion, mushrooms, and barley in it. It's really pretty tasty and is only 2 points a serving. I was bad Sunday because I had paint stuff spread out all over the dining room table and was preoccupied with painting efforts so I ordered a small pizza. I felt kind of guilty about it but, shoot, life happens.

Barb Well, the front-runner on Bachelor ended up being the chosen one. I got a little side-tracked by the Peter story. Peter and Rachel sure seemed uncomfortable with each other last night, didn't they? I guess the biggest surprise was the announcement that Juan Pablo got married. LOL

Mary Where are you? We want to hear about your reunion. That was a cute photo you shared of you and your classmates.

Hi all! I have been to an "all class" reunion, but never to MY class reunion. This was my first. I am kind of glad I waited. I was not a part of the "popular" crowd like you all must have been. Everyone seemed to be on the same "level" this week-end. Peeps that I thought were snobby seemed so much friendlier now. A few would come up to me and we would look deep into each other's eyes and yell out who we thought the other was lol!
I was mostly right. I did study my class annual before I went. You have to remember, most of us were 13 year students so We kind of recognized those that hadn't lost too much hair or gained too much weight. I had a great time!

Today I went to an all UAW Local Union lunch in Lansing. I can't believe how many people showed up! There was lots of "evil" food lol! There were a few door prize drawings. Of course I won something I would never use lol! 18 holes of golf with a cart. I am giving it to my son Tony. He loves to golf.
Tomorrow is our reg GM lunch with my friends in Lansing.
I have to take time to get a mani/pedi soon!

13 more days before our Vegas trip. I am so ready to go! Queenie will be boarded and Matthew will watch Zoie and the house.

I need to check out area 51.......

Mary, I don't remember you telling us you were going to Vegas? Any shows planned? It sounds like your reunion was a lot of fun. I found the same thing at my 50th with previous snobby people. I wasn't with the in crowd at all as I was very shy and quiet in those days. I always feel like I will be that way at a reunion but then I get there and I'm myself. Funny how you still get those old feelings. Sounds like you are lunching like me....a lot.

JL, I went to the dr today. He feels like I pulled something. He wants me to take a lot of an anti inflammatory and gave me muscle relaxers. He said it could take awhile for it to recover. It's weird how it only hurts sometimes. It really takes your breath away. I can stil put on my own pants and shoes though.

I'm not going to get weighed tomorrow. I was up at the dr office and tonight we went to Flemings. Its a really nice place. I had steak, asparagus, mashed potato and gave in to turtle cake. I'm stuffed right now. It was so good but probably weighed 20 pounds!! It's already been a hard week and it's only half over.

Hi Barb. How are you doing?

Mary/MI said...

TURTLE CAKE!!
Dam you really know how to hurt a gal lol! Was it as good as it sounds??

Lunch with friends was fun. It's always good seeing my old work buddies. You would never in a million years guess what I ordered to eat and left most on my plate!... Get this...a fried bologna sandwich lol! I have no idea what came over me! I guess maybe childhood memories. I don't remember it tasting so nasty growing up lol!!

I stopped at the Mall on my way home. Good Lord, I need to go on a diet!! I told my Son I looked God ugly in those dressing room mirrors!! I did buy a couple tops and a pair of loose spandex shorts.

I am heading to FB........

That was a good joke, Dianne. Now that my roof is done, I have the woman who painted my kitchen (Stacy) painting all the eaves and trim on the house. Since there was a lot of dry rot, most of the wood had to be replaced and the new wood has to be painted before I get my final inspection sign-off. I'm having her do all the eaves and trim and I'm making it a darker brown than it was. It will match the gutters now. The main house color is a beige color. Stacy has a full time job as a truck driver, so she is doing it on her days off. She prepped everything on Saturday and Sunday and started priming it yesterday. She will be back on Saturday and maybe finish up with everything on Sunday. She does a really good job, but she just didn't have enough business to pay her bills so she took this job driving truck and making local deliveries to businesses. She is really a hard worker.

J/L, So Paradise starts on Monday. It looks like it's going to be a real train wreck. I guess it didn't work out with the Millionaire Matchmaker date for Daniel, so he is back in Paradise. Anyway, He and DeMario should provide some big drama!

I'm watching the show about Princess Diana that aired last night and will end tonight. I didn't see anything new last night, and probably won't tonight either, but I'm going to watch anyway. It's a sad story and Prince Charles is such a jerk. He was pressured into getting married because he was 34 and a player and Diana was only 19, and very naive.

Mary, It sounds like you had a very nice time at your reunion. My husband and I went to my 30th reunion and we had a pretty good time. He graduated from the same school the year before I did, so he knew all the kids in my class. I only went to that school for my senior year, so he actually knew more people than I did. I wish I had gone to my 50th.

Mary I really need to go clothes shopping but I really hate it. You are right. Those dressing room mirrors don't do any of us any favors. You'd think they'd want to invest in some really complimentary lighting. Maybe they do in the ultra expensive stores....the kind I don't go to. LOL

I had to laugh about your fried bologna sandwich. I've never been anyplace where they actually served them. I did have the occasional fried Spam sandwich as a kid. They were actually kind of good. When I was in grammar school, a neighborhood friend and I would make frosting from powdered sugar, add some food color to make it "pretty", and slather it on graham crackers. We thought it was the best treat and that we were so clever. I remember us taking some to a neighborhood boy who we thought was cute and who we used to spy on occasionally. LOL

Dianne I agree with Mary that your Turtle Cake sounds wonderful. Was it as good as it sounds? The rest of your meal sounded delicious, too.

I went to the movies last night and saw "Dunkirk" which I thought was quite good and certainly interesting. It was a good time for me to be reminded that people can be brave and do the right thing. Oh, I had my buttered popcorn and Coke, too. Hey, it's part of my movie going ritual.

How's your back? Is it getting better now?

Just_Lin said...

Barb That's great that your roof is all finished now. No more banging! Is the neighbor's house still a work in progress? The other day I walked the dog by that weird color house a couple of blocks away and it is looking much better now. Whoever is working on it has put on a new roof, repainted it a normal color; a subtle greenish color with cream trim. Most of the purple paint has been scraped up off of the driveway at this point and the crappy shrubbery has all been removed from the yard. New windows and doors have been put in and I know a lot of work has been done on the inside, too. I don't know if the person who bought it will live in it or resell for a handy profit. I'll keep my eye on it.

Paradise is always a train wreck but it may be even worse than usual this time. Of course I'll be watching. LOL

sacBarb said...

J/L, I'll be watching Paradise, too. I wonder if Ashley will be on it or if she is still dating they guy she picked on the Millionaire Matchmaker. His name is Chris and he seemed like a nice guy, but they only show part of the date they were on, and it's not enough to reveal any weird traits. Even Ashley seemed normal. LOL

The house next door is still a work in progress. The roof is almost done. The owner is also going to replace the AC/Heat and I hope he gets a more professional person to install it.

That weird house isn't so weird anymore. It sounds like they are putting a lot of $$$ and work into it. If they are going to flip it, they are going to have to ask a hefty price in order to make a profit since they already spent so much to buy it.

Hi.. well, Saturday night hanging out. I don't exactly know what I think we should be doing but it is Sat night!!! We went with my granddaughter x son in law and wife to lunch in the mountains and for alittle ride. It's so pretty there. After we took them home we rode a little longer. I've been packing tonight too. Don't need much for four days.

JL, glad to hear your purple house is changed. I love purple but not a house. Yes, the turtle cake was yummy. All full of nuts. The others ate the carrot cake so I "had" to eat most of the turtle cake ..darn. I liked Dunkirk too. My back is kind of spasms off and on. Not really any better but not constant.

Barb, boy Stacy does sound like a really hard worker plus being a truck driver. You are fortunate that you have someone good and trustworthy to do your painting. How are you liking your car by now? I really like mine. I'm still learning things on mine and I keep reading the manual.

Mary, I've never seen a bologna sandwich on a menu either. I hope they don't charge much for it. My mom used to make it to go with our breakfast. It does bring some memories.

We are still having cooler weather and I think most are enjoying it as it's been so hot. We get afternoon showers every day...hard to keep a car clean .

That's about it for me. Nothing else new and that's good. Im hoping to get a black hills gold ring next week on vacation so I had to gather my "stashed" money and see how much I had saved up..pretty good savings plus get my gambling bucks ready.

Night

Mary, My Hubby loved bologna sandwiches. He took them for lunch a lot and sometimes wanted fried bologna sandwiches for dinner. I used to buy the kind that had an image of the meat on a round piece of cardboard on the package and then wrapped in plastic. When we were first married, he used to work the graveyard shift and I would make four sandwiches for him to take to work. He would eat two for his lunch break and the other two at various other times during his shift. He would get home in the morning right before I left for work. One morning he came in and asked if I was tired when I made his lunch the night before because one of his sandwiches had the round cardboard with the picture of bologna on it in his sandwich. All the guys at work had a good laugh over that!

Dianne, Is the anit-inflamitory med working. I hope your pain is gone now. That Turtle cake you talked about brought back memories of the Turtle Cheesecake I used to buy at Costco when all the kids were still home. The whole family loved it, but I bed it had 500 calories in each piece!

Dianne said...

Barb, I'm sure this cake did too and then I whine when I go to ww. When I went this last week I didn't get weighed. I'd been to dr and just finished up with the prednisone so I knew I was up. I'll obviously miss this week but will weigh here in am to see how this week goes on vacation.

Wow, that's a lot of sandwiches your husband ate of the same kind. You'd think he would have gotten tired of the same kind. Do you eat them now? I haven't had one in years. I don't mind them and actually they sound kind of good. We used to buy the same kind you did. That's funny about how you packed the package!! I'm sure those guys got a good laugh.

Guess what?? I'm all packed except things for morning last minute items. I'm so proud of myself. My laundry is all done, house tidy and I'm ready to go.
