I got caught up on the last blog. I am watching "How the Grinch stole Christmas, Cartoon & Jim Carry's version. That one always cracks me up!

JustLin, I understand about the lower back troubles and cooking! i know I over did it this week end, but a gals gottah do what a gals gottah do lol!
I cleaned the house the best I could a few days before Christmas Eve and baked a cherry pie. Sat. night I had a DJ.Karaoke gig. I didn't get home until 2am. I slept a few hrs and put the roast in the oven and laid back down. I couldn't sleep so I got up. I peeled potatoes and put them in cold water until ready to boil, made Spanish rice with chicken, put together enchiladas, prepared the green bean casserole, cut up carrots for roast, got the ingredients out for the corn bread, set the table cleaned up the kitchen and waited for Karina and Steve.I'm on my 3 Mortin!

I felt bad that they had to drive so far with the weather looking bad! We had a great visit! It was like we had known each other forever! Her hubby was very nice and got along with Jim. That was easy since they both likes sports! My son Tony and his wife were going to be a bit late so we started dinner without them.
By the time they had to leave, their car was covered by a few inches of snow and the roads didn't look good. I would have had them stay the night, but we really don't have extra room. Karina texted me until they got back home. As it turned out it's a good thing they went, because the weather got worse over night. It took Matt hours to plow out our driveways. It is windy and just above 0*

Dianne, Jim did pretty good. He handed me an cute Christmas card with lottery tickets and a few beautiful "Ben Franklins"! I can get whatever I like lol!
I got him a tall standing air-compressor. He has a little one, so he loved the big one. He is constantly needing air for tires on his tractor, bikes, our vehicles, & power tools. I got him a few smaller things.
I am sorry about your brother's condition. I hate recliners! Jim spends all day in his when not walking the dog! When he goes bowling I sometimes sit in it. I like to relax with Zoie a bit. When I get out of the chair I have a terrible time straightening up and my back feels terrible! I see why he (Jim) has trouble walking when he gets up!

SacBarb, I hope you are feeling better. I didn't know Sharon had moved away from your area. I have said this before, but I still mean it! I wish I lived closer to you! I would love to have someone to go to the theater, shows and nice lunches with! I was late with some of my card this year. I don't know how that happened since I started early this year lol!

I will be having one more gig, on NYE. hopefully I will get a long break since not much goes on during Jan & Feb. I am their Birthday part DJ standby, so who knows! It's fun & the money is good so I keep plugging along LOL!

I am not going to proof read this so I hope it makes sense lol!! Nite all and Merry Christmas!

Hi and Merry Christmas to you all. Hope everyone had a good day. We had a very nice day with Tammy and family at Andy and Wendy’s. Their dinner was great and I totally overate. I may not weigh in on Wednesday when I go. I have done terrible this week again. The kids loved their presents and got a lot from us and both parents. We all open gifts one at a time so it took us three hours to do them all for everyone. It’s fun to watch I think.

Mary, you exhaust me reading everything you did....it’s no wonder your back hurts. Mine does from reading your post! Sounds like a nice night with Karina and her husband. Your house sounds like mine..,we have no extra room for anyone to stay. I wish I had a guest bedroom. My little extra room is my office. Well, now you have New Years Eve plans. We go to dinner with two couples about 7:30 after the crowd dies down. Sounds like Jim did good for you for Christmas. Ben Franklin is always nice and always fit. Lol

JL, hope you had a good day at your daughters. Do you see your grandkids on the holiday? It’s amazing all we each do for Christmas and then it’s over so fast and now it gets boring for a couple of months. How was the resort for Dinner? I’ll bet nice. Was it crowded?

Barb, what did you do today? Hope you felt up to enjoying the day.

We went to a nice dinner out last night. Glad we had reservations but food was great. Well. I’m pooped tonight so I will sign off saying a Merry Christmas to all.

Gah, its been over 10 days and I just noticed my Birthday greeting on the front of the blog lol!! Thanks Missy Tina!!

Dianne, I am here, two days in a row! Not much happening today except for the cold ass weather! I am staying in my sweats without a bra all day, so don't anybody come-a-knockin lol!!

Just_Lin said...

Mary LOL at not noticing your birthday greeting. Now if Tina was here, she'd probably tell you it's because you're getting OLD and your eyesight is going. LOL Of course, you and I know that isn't true. It's just that you have other things on your mind.

I also spent yesterday in sweat pants which is weird for me. They are really big on me so I always feel like MC Hammer when I wear them. They are warm which is what I was wearing them for. I knew I'd be staying home all day as I felt kind of pooped after the Xmas day festivities and overeating. I did wear a bra, however. I'm not sure why. Just habit.

It sounds like you cooked up a storm for you Christmas Eve dinner. How fun that Karina and Steve were able to join you. Good times!

Dianne It sounds like you had a lovely Christmas with your family. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see the grandkids as they live a ways away and it's a weird split of their time between my sons's and their mother's. I had a wonderful time with my daughter, however, and we ate too much at the resort which is par for the course. That's actually a joke as they hold one of the PGA tours there. Anyway, it's a fancy schmancy spread they put out and we took advantage of it as much as we possibly could. We started out with drinks; Bloody Mary for me and vodka and cranberry juice for her. That's the drink we had at the ice bar in Copenhagen a few years back and brought back nice memories. Anyway, there were several different kinds of salads and so we took a little of each along with some sliced salami and prosciutto and antipasto. There was only one type of soup which was chestnut and apple and was delicious. We then hit the seafood bar. I'm not one to eat oysters and not big on crab but I took advantage of the big, beautiful shrimp and had about 8 of those. Then it was on to the carving station where they were serving prime rib and ham. Both were so tender and delicious. There was a table of sides, such as various roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, etc. They always have a beautiful tiered display of fancy deserts. I had a kept it down to one slice of a delicious cake and a mini eclair. I'm not sure what kind of cake it was but it may have had rum in it. Oh, and coffee. Our reservations were for 1:00 and although I arrived hungry, I sure didn't leave hungry. We were so glad this place survived the horrible fires. The fires came close and we could see the blackened, burnt hills nearby.

My daughter gave me lots of neat gifts but one of my favorites is a 2018 calendar made up of photos she took during our Europe vacation last spring. It's very cool.

Barb How are you doing? I hope you were able to enjoy your day with your son. Here's hoping you start the new year a lot perkier than you are finishing this one.

Hello everyone. I didn't realize it has been so long since I posted. I really haven't been on the computer much since I've been sick. I am feeling a lot better today, although I still have this annoying cough. The doc told me it has lasted two months for some people. I had an appointment with the spine doc today to discuss my options for the back pain I've been having. As I suspected, he referred me to physical therapy. He thinks it is in the muscles since the CT scan didn't show any more deterioration. I'm glad I don't need surgery, so I will do the PT. He also told me I need to be more diligent about my diet because of my kidney disease. It has been at the same level for about 10 years, but my last blood test showed it was getting slightly worse. So, while I never make New Years resolutions, I am going to make a concerted effort to be more careful about my eating habits starting Jan 1st.

Dean came over on Christmas day and brought two huge rib steaks and some King crab legs. He also brought a package of garlic mashed potatoes and a cauliflower, and did all the cooking. I opened my gifts that he and my grandson, Joshua, dropped off on Christmas Eve. Joshua and his soon to be fiance, (she doesn't know it yet), will be going to Napa, to her parent's house on Christmas. He is going to ask her father for her hand. He bought her a beautiful ring (almost a carat) but he isn't going to give it to her until after she graduates from college in January.

Mary, Sharon used to live about 10 minutes away from me and now she lives about 30 minutes away,so it's not that far really, it's just not quite as convenient as it was. So we don't seem to get together as often as we did.

Dianne, I'm so sorry that Bruce is having so many health issues. I will pray that he gets better very soon. How is Kayla doing. You haven't mentioned her in a while. Is she still working? Is Jake-ass still in jail?

J/L, It sounds like you had a nice time in Napa. I really like Napa. When I was working we used to have a week long, HR conference, attended by HR professionals from all over the state, in Napa every year. So, while we were busy with conference stuff during the day, we were free to roam around the city and do whatever we wanted at night. It was also a good networking opportunity for all of us HR folks. We really had a good time.

Good morning.....🌞 I’ve been up since 4am! If I was going on a trip this would be great...but I’m not. I wrote out a couple of cards I need to get out and now it’s 5;00 and I’m laying in bed wondering if I could go back to sleep? Long day ahead !

Barb, so nice to see you we were having some concern for you. That’s terrible that you are still sick. Know you called the dr. Glad dean was able to bring you a nice dinner. That’s exciting about your grandson. How old is he?

Thank you for the prayers for my brother. It’s a sad situation. Kayla seems to be doing good. She loves her beauty school and is still working too does still in her apartment. She’s sees a guy a lot but says he’s not her boyfriend ...whatever. Jake-ass is still not in jail and will be sentenced the first of Feb. He took a plea bargain. I’m still not crazy about the choices she makes but I don’t know about any bad things.

JL, your paintings are really nice. You are quite talented. It sounds like you dinner was fabulous . Made me hungry reading your menu. It sounds like a ton of food. What a thoughtful gift from you daughter. I love thoughtful gifts the most. Doing anything for breakfast Years weekrnd.

Mary, proud of u coming on twice in a row. looks like you’ll be plenty busy for New Years Eve. Sounds fun. Will Jim go with you? I think you are getting a lot of s snowy cold weather. We are in 40-60’s with sun shining and that helps . I hope you enjoy your ever weekend.

Well, I keep falling Asleep so time to sign off.for now im not proofing so bare with me.

Dianne I hope you were able to get a few more hours of sleep. i hate when I wake up way too early and can't get back to sleep. It's frustrating.

Thank you for the kind comment about my artwork. I am not doing anything for New Year's Eve and haven't gone out on that night in many years. I might get out the paints and work more on my sunset painting. The other day I went to a dollar store and bought two white plates to use as palettes for my paints. They work great for that.

I hope Kayla stays away from Jake-ass. I hope she finds someone nicer and more mature. Maybe she will be growing up more, herself, now that she is going to school and working and maintaining an apartment.

Barb It sounds like you had a lovely visit and dinner with Dean. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your day even if you were still sick. I received your Christmas card yesterday. It's very cute. I always look forward to seeing your handmade cards. I'm glad you were able to get them out after putting so much time into making them.

The Silverado in Napa is really lovely. I guess you'd call it a stately manor and the grounds are beautifully kept with a high end golf course. I'm so glad it didn't get burned down during the fires.

I also have some kidney issues and should pay better attention to my dietary habits for that reason, alone. I need to get better at that as I have really not been doing myself any favors with my eating habits lately. Of course, there is the weight issue, too, so I really need to get serious about weight loss again, too. Oh, and I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies last night. LOL At least I put 3 dozen away in the freezer in 3 different containers. As it is, the ones not in the freezer seem to be disappearing fast and I'm the only one in the house. I think I grab one every time I go through the kitchen. I better hurry up and eat them all before I make my resolution to lose weight. LOL

Mary It sounds like you put out quite a spread for Christmas Eve dinner. How fun that Karina and Steve were able to join you. Their drive home sounded a bit treacherous. Your weather makes life exciting and challenging. I sure hope your weather is decent on New Year's Eve when you have to be driving in it.

Don't you have a trip coming up?

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, It looks like my NYE weather will be bitterly cold, but no snow, so I am happy about that! Jim and I will go early to set the equipment up.
I hate doing it when there are people crowding me! Some mean well, but I really need to concentrate and not visit with them. I have a lot of cables, wires, and equipment to set up. Jim sets up the speakers, but has no clue on all the connections. One wrong cable set up and nothing works lol! That happened last time, not with cables, but with my Karaoke program. I had just bought an update and I couldn't get any sound out of my speakers! The DJ part would work, but not the Karaoke sounds. I finally figured it out, but it sure worried me for a bit!

Dianne, We will not be getting above 20* for a while! I was hoping your weather would head our way :( I have swept off the patio all day! I did get brave enough to run to town for a few gross-eries, so I don't have to go back until next year lol!

Barb, Just reading the words "huge rib steaks" made my mouth water!!
I am so glad you will not be having surgery! That cough has got to go!! Knock on wood, that I haven't gotten that...yet! I just want to get through this last NYE job and I can relax! It gets pretty slow until spring.

Well, Jim went and bought the John Deer tractor. It has a front loader and most important for him, big tires and a cab! Men! He needed to disperse some funds because his 401K and whatever else had to send him money before the end of the year or get penalized. He could have "dispersed it to me lol!!!

My Niece Raquel has gone past her due date. She is @ 4cen. and anxious as hell! She may have a NY baby, who knows? They will induce next Wed. if need be. She won't let them do it Tues because her fave. Dr will not be there, and of course Ny day is a no go. I told her Myla will come when "she's" ready LOL!

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, I didn't answer your question. We will not be going on the trip. I sent my travel agent an email telling her that both gals wanted out and I was not going alone! We will all lose our deposits :( I guess it was just too soon, too far and too long a trip for them after losing a loved one. I am trying to see their side of it.

sacBarb said...

J/L, Are you getting excited about the new Bachelor? I remember I wasn't too impressed with him when he was on the Bachelorette. I guess we'll see if he matured since then. From the ads, it looks like a lot of drama, as usual!

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I'm glad your Christmas card finally got there. I was afraid it got lost, so I mailed another one to you. We made two different designs of our card because we din't have enough supplies to make them all the same. I'm not sure which one I sent the first time, so the second one may be the same, or a variation of the first one. Usually, I don't have any left over after sending to everyone on my list, but this year, I cut down my list a little, so I had a couple left.

I'm happy to hear Kayla is liking beauty school and being more responsible. It shows she is maturing. I don't understand the justice system and why it takes so long to actually put Jake in jail when they know it is going to happen. It just give him time to make more screw ups!

sacBarb said...

Mary, I'm sorry your trip fell through. I know you were looking forward to it. NYE shold be very exciting for you. It's nice to be able to celebrate with a lot of people, even if you don't know them. Like J/L, I haven't gone out on NYE for many years. Sometimes, I don't even stay up until midnight, even though other nights I am up until at least 2am. I like to watch the late night shows, but they aren't on that night and I get bored with the shows that are on.

Mary/MI said...

SacBab, I didn't do a NYE show last year and it seemed nice to be home all curled up watching the New Year come in.I really hadn't planned on doing it again because of the possible bad weather coming home so late. I may beg off next year, after all, I am 70 lol!!

I am waiting for my Grandson Liam to visit. I worry so much about accidentally calling him by his birth name or saying something wrong! I don't want to hurt his feelings.
He doesn't eat meat, so I have a bunch of snacks ready of crackers, cheese, nuts and veggies.

Poor Zoie! She has been having trouble getting her business done before her little paws freeze! Queenie is a bit more adapt and runs outside like a freakin deer lol! We have been keeping Queenie in the house in her crate. She is in heat and I don't need "drippings" all over the place! Jim takes her out often. He is not fond of the cold!!

Just_Lin said...

Hi, Hooters. I'm under the weather today. I didn't get up until 3:00 pm but first woke up at 8:00 a.m. and had the runs and dry heaves off and on for hours. I managed to feed the dog and we returned to bed but then she threw up on it. Cheers!

Mary/MI said...

Oh JustLin! I am so sorry you are ill! You are doing right by staying in bed. Poor doggie too! I will pray that it doesn't hang around too long!

I have taken Zoie out 3 times and she has not been able to stand up long enough to do anything! I feel so sorry for her!
My Grandson Liam was here for a few hrs and Zoie would not leave my side. She usually goes off on her own and naps. I guess she was guarding me!
The temps are below zero! I did my tai chi out on the patio a few times today. Silly me, the first time I almost froze my ass off! I forgot I had on a thin pair of "Lu la roes". I might as well have been nekkid lol!

I will prolly be off until next year. We have to set up the equipment early in the day then go to our annual NYE dinner with Jim's sister and hubby, then head to my gig.
Sooo Happy New year everyone! Wishing you the best in 2018!!!

Dianne said...

Hi everyone..

JL, sorry you are not feeling well. Your doggie too. I’d be throwing up with the dog if I had to clean that junk up..yuck! I hope you’re better tomorrow. I sure hope you don’t have the flu. Did you get a flu Shot? My poor grandson has had it for two weeks right through Christmas and his whole vacation. He’s still not feeling great. No flu shot though.

Barb, now we will see how long it takes your second card to arrive. I’ll let you know which one I already have from you. Thanks for sending another one. Well, at least Jake is in jail for failing to do restraining orders until is other sentencing comes up the first of Feb. He’d be a flight risk if he was out plus we don’t need Kayla being tempted. Do you watch AMazing Race? I was thinking of watching it this time around. I used to watch all those reality shows at one time. I just don’t watch much TV except I did watch Dateline tonight. I kind of like that show and always watch the news at 10.

Mary, darn that your trip has been canceled. I know you were looking forward to it. I wish Jim would go with you but I know he won’t. Guess you’ll have to go back to Vegas soon. Enjoy your time with your grandson. Is he coming for the afternoon? No baby Yet?

We will go to dinner with our friends and hope it doesn’t snow tonight..as predicted. We will be home by 10 and watch the specials and ball drop except I hardly know the people on them anymore. We will have a Baileys to celebrate. On New Years Day we are going to two movies. We already have the tickets for one of them. I

It was nail day today and lunch with a friend and SIL. Pretty cold in the 30’s and windy. We went to mountains yesterday to meet a couple of Louis’s friends. The traffic was terrible going up there with the skiers and snowmobile people. There was a hole in the road right before our turnoff so it delayed us an hour! It couldn’t be helped and they were very understanding but I hate to be late.

That’s about it. Hope everyone has a great happy and healthy New Year.

sacBarb said...

J/L, It sounds like you have what I had after the bronchitis. I also had pains in my stomach, but I decided that was from not eating. I was so nauseous I just couldn't eat anything. I tried to drink 7-UP and eat some Saltines, but that didn't stay down long. And I had dry heaves for about three days. I hope you are feeling better very soon, and Ursula, too.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I used to watch the Amazing Race, but I haven't watched it in a few years. Not sure I will watch it this season. I will be watching the Bachelor, however. It starts on New Year's Day.

sacBarb said...

Mary, When Todd lived in Denver, his San Diego dog wouldn't do his business in the snow unless Todd shoveled a dry place for him. They also put a sweater and doggy boots on him because he wouldn't step out in the cold. He was much happier when they moved back to San Diego. Maybe Raquel will have that baby on New Year's day.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Have fun tonight and be careful out there on the roads. Be careful around the drunk people at the venue, also. Hopefully, you and your equipment when in the new year unscathed by the revelers.

I'm definitely feeling better today but feel run down and my muscles hurt from the dry heaving. I had a craving last night for something I haven't made in years.....so I made it. Fried cornmeal mush with maple syrup. I guess it's a southern or country thing. My mom used to make it once in a while when I was growing up.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I did get a flu shot and this was not the flu. It seems to have been caused by something I ate or maybe I ate too much. Anyway, while I was getting sick I kept thinking of the mixed nuts I was eating by the hand full while I was watching TV. I think maybe I can't digest nuts as well as I once could. LOL at you getting sick if you had to clean up after the dog. Her food hadn't been in her long enough to digest. It looked exactly the same coming out as it looked going in.

The Amazing Race starts Wednesday night and it is a favorite show of mine. I always look forward to it. They go to so many places and have to do so many interesting challenges. Every once in a while there is some kind of food challenge that I would definitely not be able to do. I'd take the time penalty rather than eat some of that weird stuff. What I don't understand is that there seems to always be someone on it that is afraid of heights. There seems to always be tasks to do that involve repelling down a tall building or doing a bungee jump or something like that. Did these people never watch the show before? Anyway, when lots of money is at stake, they seem to struggle past their fears. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Whatever my problem was yesterday, it's not nearly as bad as what you had. I was able to eat soup at around 5 and then made my fried cornmeal mush at around 8. My digestion issues are cleared up and I just feel worn out and beat up.

Thanks for reminding me about Bachelor. I do have it set to record but I don't want to miss our running commentary as the show is airing. I really don't remember what I thought of Ari. I saw a promo for the show and there is a woman on there that seems to be into taxidermy. Eeew!

sacBarb said...

J/L, I saw that one of the Bacheloretes is into taxidermy and I immediately thought of that season when one of them was a mortician. As I remember, she got pretty far, but I can't remember who the Bachelor was. I have it set to record, also, in case I am unable to watch an episode.
I'm glad you're feeling better. It probably helped that you ate some food. I was afraid to eat because I was so nauseous and I think that may have prolonged the symptoms, because when I finally ate some soup, after three days, I did feel better. I think I was becoming dehydrated, too, and that wasn't good! During those three days, I only ate a couple of crackers when I took my meds and drank some 7-UP with ginger oil in it. I feel much better now, but I am having headaches that last a couple of hours. Tylenol helps but it takes a while to kick in.
