Paddy McCoy

by Dianne

Paddy McCoy, an elderly Irish farmer, received a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions stating that they suspected he was not paying his employees the statutory minimum wage and they would send an inspector to interview them.

On the appointed day, the inspector turned up.

"Tell me about your staff," he asked Paddy.

"Well," said Paddy, "there's the farm hand, I pay him £240 a week, and he has a free cottage.

Then there's the housekeeper. She gets £190 a week, along with free board and lodging.

There's also the half-wit. He works a 16 hour day, does 90% of the work, earns about £25 a week along with a bottle of whisky and, as a special treat, occasionally gets to sleep with my wife."

"That's disgraceful" said the inspector, "I need to interview the half-wit."

"That'll be me then," said Paddy.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, HOoters! I hope everyone has a nice day. I'll be making corned beef and cabbage which I'll be getting started soon. I think we're expecting occasional showers to be passing through.

Thanks for the laugh!
Sorry I have not stopped by more. I seem to be on a never ending treadmill! Jim is doing fine except for some memory problems. His thinking is a bit fuzzy. The in home nurse said the seizure meds could have something to do with that. I have to admit that I am totally stressed out! I had a breakdown yesterday. I went to my car and cried my eyes out. I am such a woos! Too much company and responsibility. I have got to quit thinking I have to watch him every second! He gets around now with out his walker or cane, in the house. Will will try a short walk on the patio tomorrow.
I won 6 tickets to a Home & Garden show in Lansing. I gave away 5 of them hoping I could use one. Tomorrow is the last day :( I will try to get my chores done (feeding, watering and walking Jim & the dogs lol) so I can skip out for a couple of hrs. Wish me luck!

Thanks again for the carda. I got yours today Linda :). They really mean a lot to me!

Hi all ....Mary, I’m so sorry you’re not closer to us for hugs. Please know how I think and pray for you and Jim every day. You are not a woos! We all get to that point sometimes. It means you are a caring, loving person. I was glad to see you got out to the Home show today. You needed a little fun break. I’ll bet Jim is disapponted about not being able to Vegas. He will again soon.

JL, we’re having rain and now changing to snow right now..big flakes. It was fairly nice today. We had fun at a family/friend St Patricks party yesterday. It was like a Spring day or itvws inside and out. Very fun to see everyone. They had corn beef too. I’m not nuts about it so I passed for all the other food. I guess I shouldn’t wonder why I can’t lose more pounds. I brought those little eclairs in a big box..two of them..vanilla and chocolate. Boy, they were gone fast. I only had two tiny ones as they are bite size. I couldn’t have eaten the whole box.

Barb, thanks for the compliment on my hair. I had just come from hairdresser. She washes and blows it dry in ten min like that..I only wish I could do the front like she can do. The baby is my good friends great granddaughter. She’s so adorable and only six mos and been through some really hard medical issues and surgeries and isn’t done yet.

Well, tomorrow is the hospital procedure to once again cauterize the bleeding lesions in my stomach. I go in at 8:30 and procedure is at 10:00 am. My biggest worry is them finding a vein to put me out! My veins are very noticeable! I hope this will be last time as gastro dr said two more times but my primary spoke with him about possibly doing this at one time. This dr is not in my insurance network and had to get special permission.

Hope you all,had a good weekend. JL, gonto, any movies last week? That’s very frightening about that lady on the cruise.

Dianne, hugs back at you! I will send out prayers for a successful vein find and surgery. We have been having wonderful weather here. Jim took Queenie for a walk today. He went a lot further than I would have like him to go. He was a bit out of breath, but happy to be out walking his "girl" again. He is doing very well. I am not happy that he has been having a beer at night, but I can't control what he does. He asked the in- home nurse. She said it could mess with the Seizure meds. We see the family Dr tomorrow.
Dianne, I thought the cute baby was related to you. You both had the same sweet smile lol!

I need to catch up on post in area 55 <-- right number?? LOL!

Aww, you’re so sweet, Mary. She does have the sweetest smile and I was smiling as I was happy to be holding her. She’s had five surgeries in six mos. it’s been very hard on everyone. The mommy is only 20. Btw, Area 51. Does Jim take his phone with him on walks? Is he staying away from smoking? Tammy takes seizure meds too. Not my choice but she drinks beers too! Let us know what dr has to say.. xxoo

Hi...well, I had my surgery yesterday. Great nurse found vein first stick. I had to be there at 8:30 and was out of recovery by 10:35 and was put out too. He’s hoping I won’t have to have it done again unless blood count goes down again..still On lots of iron. I was even able to eat later in the day. I’ll be getting my blood checked a lot in the next mos. Back is better finally so I’m back on bike. Had to go to foot dr today as ii have a very painful toe. Well, my toe by my little toe is too long so the end needs to be cut off so it will quit pushing against my sock or shoe. He filed it today to see how it goes. He said the surgery recovery is three weeks with just a bandaid, regular shoe and I can drive. I just hate to be once again look for a vein and be put out. I get the weirdest things but it’s very painful. I’ll see what to do. i go back in three mos but I’d like it to not hurt on vacation. Others get the flu, colds, ear aches ...not me ...weird things.

Mary, what did dr say about Jim yesterday? How’s he doing? You’re still going on your trip, right? I thought you’d be going since your son is there. I know you’ve been really looking forward to it.

Spring sprung here today....very nice out.

Barb and JL...you There?

Dianne, So far, I am still going on my trip. The Dr (as well as many others) told him he was a lucky man! Many don't survive what he went through! Tuff ole bird! He doesn't have to see him for another month. He is getting home care therapists. I have to get on him about his breathing exercises. He needs to get those lungs strengthened, or he may get pneumonia again.
I am so glad all went well for you yesterday! Toe too long? I swear Dianne!
We have been getting a bit of sunshine everyday, but very windy. I am not complaining after seeing all the rest of the country is getting! We have been spared...so far! Just so I don't get snowed out from my trip lol!

JustLin, man, would I have loved to have some of your corn beef cabbage! No cabbage lovers here but me. My Mom would make a delicious cabbage soup. I sure wish I would have paid attention to her cooking! I did finally master the tortillas! I made fresh yesterday for burritos. You are on sweet lady to be doggie sitting. Do they mind you ok? If I remember right, you have a fenced in area, for their "business". I went on poop patrol the other day lol! I hate having it all over the property! At least we have unlimited places to dispose of the crap lol!

Where are you Barb? Miss you!

Dianne Here I am! Thank you for the gentle prodding this morning. I'm so sorry that I forgot about your procedure yesterday. I'm glad it went so well for you. Too bad you can't take that nurse with you every time you have to have blood work done. Now the thing with your toe is kind of weird. Was it always a long toe and did it bother you all your life or just when you got older? I'm having a weird pain in the arch of my left foot lately and I'm not sure what brought that on. Maybe it's my punishment for taking the dog for a walk. LOL

It's been rainy and blustery lately. I'm surprised that I didn't go back to sleep this morning while listening to the wind in the trees. When I used to have to get up early to go to work, I would think how wonderful it would be when I didn't work any more and could roll over and go back to sleep on cold, wet days like today. I guess I didn't factor in that I would also be old. I guess that's one of those "be careful what you wish for" things.

I really haven't been up to anything for quite a while. I have bought Easter treats for the grandkids as well as my son's girlfriend's boy. I'll get those in the mail next week.
I'm having Honeybaked hams delivered to my brother, my son, and also to myself. My daughter is coming down to have Easter meal with me.

Well, it's that time of year. I have a mammogram appointment for next Monday the 26th. That would have been my mother's birthday. I sure miss her. I miss Lani, too.

Mary It looks like I almost stepped on you here in the nest. I'm so glad things are going so well for Jim. How's he doing with the no smoking? At least he had the hardest days behind him by the time he left the hospital.

I love corned beef and cabbage. Of course I have to eat it for several meals if I make it but that's okay. The corned beef also makes a tasty sandwich. I'm like my dog; very food oriented. LOL

Speaking of dogs....I do have a pretty large fenced in yard and I go on poop patrol twice a week. Her poop goes into a plastic bag and then in the large garbage bin for pick up.

I'm so glad you will still be able to go on your trip. You definitely deserve some R & R after the last weeks you've been through.

Barb What's up? Are you busy with getting the new flooring?

sacBarb said...

J/L, I've been working on the back bedroom and the laundry room so I haven't checked on the flooring yet. Sheenah's sister Michelle helped me. She is 6' tall and she could reach all the high places without even a step stool. I had a box with a bunch of pictures that my mother painted and gave to my kids, but they didn't take them because they didn't have room for them, so I put them all up in my hallway just to get them out of the box. I took two carloads of clothes and misc. stuff to WEAVE and I will probably have more misc. stuff to donate. Once I made up my mind to get rid of stuff I don't need or use, it really feels good to be free of the stuff. I had a big crock pot that was so heavy it was hard for me to use, so I gave it to Michelle. She lives with Sheenah and does most of the cooking and was very happy to get it.

Dianne, Thanks for the nudge to get back in the nest. I hope you're feeling better today and that you don't have to have any more stomach surgery. That toe thing sounds so painful, I even had a dream about it after you told me last night. I don't remember it much, except that you were having part of your toe cut off and they put a baby condom on it. You were telling me not to worry about it. Well, I will pray that goes well if you have to have it done.

Hi Mary. It sounds like Jim is doing well. I hope you are able to go on your trip. It will be good for you to wind down after all that stress you have been through.

Hi all....I guess my nickname will be the nudger of the group. I just don’t want to see the four of us to not be around on here.

Mary, so glad you’re still planning on going on your trip. I’m also glad Jim is doing well. Keep on him about his breathing ..you’re the boss! when do you leave? I think it’s soon. You’ll be gone a week, right? I know you’ll have fun...too hot for me.

JL, Yes, my toe is longer than my middle toe. I’ve never noticed it or ever had an issue with it until the last two months. It hurts though a lot sometimes but it’s feeling pretty good since my appt. I hoping this works and I don’t have to have the end chopped off! Oh no Barb..No. more dreams now. It does sound pretty weird to me too. I’m not wearing the little condom he gave me for the toe as it hurts with it on. Have a mammogram coming up next month too. I’m doing a bone density next week. I’ve never had one...at least it doesn’t hurt.

Well, I’m glad I don’t have to pick up poop. That’s not a job I really desire! Sounds like you guys have a pretty good system down.

Barb, I’ll be you do feel good getting all that work done in your house. I still need to get in to my office and desk. We get taxes done Monday so I’d better get my butt in gear! I have a lot to do just for that appt. Be careful of your back doing all that work. How’s it been feeling lately?

I’d like to go to the movies this weekend but we are going to Cheyenne Saturday morning for the night. 75 today..snow on Sunday night. We haven’t been dumped on this year either..yet! I went to lunch with my high school friend today. She lives about two hours from where we meet so we don’t get to see each other much. We met at noon and stayed until 4:50. The dinner crowd was starting to arrive. The time simply got away from us. Fun afternoon

Hi..happy Friday. Just had lunch and was home early. Packing slowly but don’t feel great. I think I’ve had like a sinus infection forever and it feels worse today. Scratchy throat and sniffy nose. LOUIS went to get dinner. Made all our Branson show reservations today and lunch plans with Bebbi, fathers day bbq boat trip with Louis’s girls. All set for June vacation. That’s about it. Have a good weekend

I had an appointment with a contractor to give me an estimate for my floors. The pool table won't be a problem and they don't have to take it apart. Also, I won't have to board my cats. I'll keep them in one room while they are here during the day. We talked about doing my bedroom first and then they can stay in there the rest of the time. I have a litter box in there and I can keep their food on the bathroom floor. Michelle is going with me tomorrow to look at flooring so I can pick out something. I have to buy 1800 sq.ft. of flooring and various other stuff to go with it. They are also going to update the baseboards as the current ones are the skinny 70's type. It's going to take about 10 days to complete the whole house. The only rooms that aren't getting new floors are the kitchen and the two bathrooms. I don't have a start date yet. I am anxious to get this done! Then I have to buy some area rugs. This is going to be an expensive project!
