Irish Compassion

by Dianne

Shortly after take-off on an outbound evening Air Lingus flight
       from Dublin to Boston,
the lead flight attendant nervously made the following painful
announcement in her lovely Irish brogue:

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm so very sorry,
but it appears that there has been a terrible mix-up
by our catering service.
I don't know how this has happened, but we have
103 passengers on board,
and unfortunately, we received only 40 dinner meals.
I truly apologize for this mistake and inconvenience.

When the muttering of the passengers had died down,
she continued,
"Anyone who is kind enough to give up their meal so that
someone else can eat
Will receive free, unlimited drinks for the duration of our
5 hour flight.

Her next announcement came about 2 hours later:
"If anyone is hungry, we still have 40 dinners available.

Dianne Here I am! Thanks for the new blog. Fortunately, I've never been on a plane with heavy drinkers. I think that would not be a good flight to be on.

I haven't posted because my life has been extra boring with me sticking around the house almost all the time so I can keep an eye on my dog. I don't make her wear the big E-collar except when I'm not home so she won't mes with her sutures while I'm gone. I feel so bad for her when she has to have it on. She acts like she can't move or do anything when she's wearing it.

I did take my friend out for her birthday dinner to an Italian restaurant down the coast. It was very nice. She ordered a mixed seafood dish with fettuccine. The seafood included baby octopus. She thought it was great as she is much more of a world traveler than I am and has eaten all sorts of things that I wouldn't even consider. I didn't even like seeing her put the octopus in her mouth. LOL

I finished off the last of my Easter ham last night by making a ham, cheddar cheese, potato soup from a recipe on the HoneyBaked Ham website. No, I haven't heard back from them about my complaint regarding the ham my brother was sent that had no glaze on it. Grrr....

Barb How are you doing with the clearing things away for the flooring people? I'm glad you have help as that would be a very big job. How's your back and fibromyalgia doing? I've been having a painful arch in my left foot. It started after I took the dog for a walk a couple of weeks ago. It was just on the city sidewalks but I find it uncomfortable to walk on the parts of the sidewalk where driveways are slanting down towards the street and as you walk across it, your ankle has to turn a bit sideways. Anyway, I happened to be wearing my very oldest tennis shoes at the time which I now think was the culprit as they don't give my foot any real support at all. Anyway, since then my foot seemed to be getting worse by the end of each day so earlier this week I bought some insoles at Rite Aid to give my arch more support. They have made a world of difference.

It was raining and blustery all day yesterday so I had planned for that by getting everything I needed at Safeway the day before. The rain actually started Thursday night and continued until this morning. I as super lazy yesterday, binge watching shows I had recorded and not gotten around to watching. I even took a nap which is very unlike me. I love to lie in bed and listen to the rain.

Mary I hope you have a safe and uneventful flight home. Boy, it sure looks like they were feeding you well at that resort. I hope you had a good time. It looks like you were with some fun people.

That was soooo funny Dianne! No drunks on our flights! I haven't caught up on the blogs yet. I hope you are doing ok!
Speaking of drunks! Holy moly, my room mate got so drunk the first full day we were there! I was in my room getting showered from the pool, when she "slid" in! She went right to the room bar that has long bottles hanging upside down for pouring. She put 3 shots of rum and a tiny bit of mix in her glass! She passed out shortly after! She didn't wake up until just before we all meet for supper, 7:00. All I could think of was "how did she find our room, and am I going to have to babysit her all week!" She only did it that bad one more time.
The place has an adult water park. Well, Missy drank triple shots of vodka and decided to go down the highest, curviest slide! I was off sunning on my own, so I didn't witness her almost drowning! Luckily a life guard was there the second she got in trouble and rescued her! When she got back to the room she must have repeated the whole episode 5 times! It is awful that the resort does not limit peoples heavy drinking, but actually encourages it! On the catamaran we barley had one drink half gone, when they shoved another in your free hand! I asked them to go light on my alcohol. They did, for a while. I finally had to dump the dang things! There may still be some fishes suffering from hangovers!! All in all she behaved most of the time.

Justlin, I read your post about your friend's dinner and almost had to make another run to the turlet! My tummy has been so upset since I have been home! I don't wander far from said turlet! Thank goodness I had no problems on vaca other then usual after dinner situations lol! btw, you are never boring! I enjoy reading any posts you write!

Barb, don't over do it! Hope you are ok!

Good very late night/early am hello to you all. It’s 1:41am here and I still hanging around on iPad listening to music. Just about time for sleep...past bedtime but did take an afternoon nap.

Mary, glad you’re home. How did Jim do? I hope he’s much better. Sorry your tummy’s upset. All that yummy food you were posting. Well, your roommate sounds “interesting”. Did you know her very well before trip? I’m sure you do now! Did you have lots of fun? Glad you went?

Barb...h e l l o. Missing you.

JL, I’m ok with trying different foods...sometimes. No bugs or anything. How’s foot doing? Had you ever heard of that new shingles shot I got last week? LOUIS had his from pharmacy Friday. Are you going to see any of the movies that are out.? I saw love, simon Saturday It was pretty good. Instill love I Can Only Imagine. Tammy went to see it today and loved it. I still like you to post if you’re not doing anything. It’s not boring to me either. Well. Im About falling asleep so night.

I went back and read the Easter posts.

Dianne, the place we were at in the Dominican Rep. had many peeps in wheel chairs. I saw many out by the pool. They had many areas covered for shade.
I didn't get sunburned, but some of the other gals had nasty looking burns!

Jlin,How's your dog doing? I hope the cone comes off soon! Glad you got the blood cleaned off! That would have scared the crap out of me!

SacBarb, I find money in some of my pockets or purses once in a while. I remember many years ago I was contacted by someone who told me there was a new, large Mexican family moved into a nearby town and asked if I had any clothing for their 8 kids! I cleaned out my closets and drawers and had a pile of fairly new socks that I rarely wore. I took them to the family. I think I am a fairly good judge of character. I could sense that if I got too close to the family that they would eventually take advantage of me or anyone trying to help them. Well a few weeks after I met them I remembered I had hidden an expensive gold necklace in one of my socks! I must have given them the pair with the necklace. I went back and asked them about it, but no one fessed up. Months later I saw one of the older gals somewhere, I thing a grocery store. She had my necklace on! I couldn't prove it was mine, but the look on her face told it all! It still pisses me off when I think about it!

Jim is doing very well. His voice still hasn't come back from having the vent. in so long. He saw his neurologist while I was gone. He was surprised no one told him that they found an aneurysm on his aorta. It's not big enough for surgery yet,so they will be keeping an eye on it. I blew up at him yesterday! He admitted to have smoked a few times while I was gone! I couldn't believe it! I told him if he ever did it again I would pack up my bags and never come back! That's how furious I was!. I know it is hard for him, but he has been smoke free over 4 weeks! I just don't think I can go through all that again. I would think he wouldn't either!
OK, I'm done raving lol!!

Hello my lovelies. Sorry I have been MIA. My arse has been dragging like it never has before. Last week was rough, but this week is worse and there is another week to go. Aaron has scheduled this week and next week for the installation, but he hopes to get done a day or two sooner. I hope so, too. My bedroom got done yesterday, except for some trim in front of the closet and between the bathroom and bedroom. I had the cats in one of the other bedrooms yesterday, and today they are in my bedroom. He just finished another bedroom and Michelle will be over soon so we can move some more boxes in that room. Right now there are boxes all over the living room, pool room and computer room. I vow to start getting rid of more stuff after the floors are all finished. I've lived in this house for 46 years and Michelle and I uncovered stuff I haven't seen in probably 30 years. So far we have taken three carloads of clothes and shoes to WEAVE, one carload to Goodwill and two 30 gallon garbage bags filled with blankets to the Animal Shelter. I swear this stuff multiplies in the dark. My body is wracked with pain with all this work, but the cbd oil is helping me sleep, at least. I was only sleeping two or two and a half hours at a time at night, and since a couple of days after I have been taking it, I am sleeping about four hours at a time. I can usually go back to sleep pretty quickly, but I really wish I could just sleep six or seven hours straight. Maybe that will come. I got a little rest today because there was a stretch when there was nowhere to put boxes because the guys were working in two rooms, so I went into my bedroom and hung out on my bed with the cats. I knew today was going to be a little slower for us, so Michelle isn't coming over until 4:00 and we'll move boxes into the rooms they are finishing now. I'll try to get back tomorrow and give you an update. Love you guys.

Dianne I don't know anything about a new shingles shot. I did get a shingles shot quite a few years back. I received notice the other day that all was fine with my mammogram. Yay for that.

I haven't really heard of I Can Only Imagine. I haven't been to the movies for a while.

Yesterday morning I was unhappy to realize I had forgotten to put the garbage out the night before for pick up. I rushed it out in the morning hoping I hadn't missed the pick up but I had. Oh, well. The can is only about 2/3 full so I should be okay until next week's pick up.

Mary You must have been soooo angry at Jim for cheating with the smoking while you weren't there to monitor him. Does he have cigarettes stashed there at home? He's gotten through the worst of the withdrawals so he just needs to keep going, one day at a time. He also needs to start thinking of himself as a non-smoker. I imagine it will be difficult for him at places like the casino where smoking was part of his experience. Hopefully, he's back on track now.

I'm looking at a Princess cruise for next March that is round trip from San Francisco and just goes down the coast to Ensenada and then returns. There's a decent sale for Casino Player's Club and I'm waiting to see if my daughter would be interested in it. It would be easy for us since no air fare is required. It stops at Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Ensenada. There are two days at sea. Not very exciting but would be fun, anyway.

Barb Your flooring is looking great! Are you happy with it so far? What do the cats think of all the commotion going on? My brother's cat was acting poorly for several days so he took her to the vet and had x-rays and blood tests done. It turns out she is FIV positive (kind of like feline aids). He was very upset but she seems to be bouncing back now so it looks like she will make it through this episode. She is 10 years old and he found her when she was about 6 weeks old. She would have contracted FIV from her mother. Her white blood cell count is low so she can't fight infections well. Fortunately, she is an indoor only kitty.

Did you see that the next DWTS will be athletes? Tonya Harding, included.

Hi.....JL, yes, there is a new double shingles shot. We both got the first one last week. We had the previous one a few years ago too. Matter of fact I got shingles a couple of years after shot but not too bad because of having shot. My dr recommended we get the new one as it’s like 95% effective. You might want to just check with pharmacy as our dr said they give it and they did. I was going to take myself to the movie today but changed my mind and did file cabinet cleaning instead. I’m going to dinner with the girls in awhile. Glad your mammogram came back good. I just made my appt today for May. Have you had a 3D one? I think my insurance will pay it...I’m checking. That cruise sounds fun. You’re lucky you don’t have to fly anywhere. We don’t have a lot of ships going out of Denver. Lol. I’m up for cruising anywhere. How many days is it? I’ve heard a lot of controversy about Tonya being on it. What do you Think? Glad your brothers cat will be ok.

Barb, your floor looks really nice. It will be so exciting when you’re all done. Your workload sounds very tiring to get verything done. I’m glad you have a helper. At least you can get rid of lots of things in the process. I’m always trying to do it so my kids won’t some day have to deal with a mess. It’s a work in Progress but not near the years in one place like you. Resting on the bed is a good thing...I seem to do it a lot

Mary..,what’s up? Jim behaving?

Hi....lost at ww today....finally! Tonight met my uncle and wife at Outback. I love having a steak as don’t get to have one often. Our temp was up to 80 today..hot and nice but that dang wind was blowing hard...kind of ruins the day.

Had a nice dinner (fast) with the girls last night. It’s always nice to spend a little time with them. Kayla is doing good in school and Em is looking forward to graduation and getting out of school for a couple of months.

That’s it...I’m boring. Hope you’re all doing good.

Hi gals! Dianne gently nagged me into checking in lol!
It has been a wonky week since I got back from vaca. Jim was not returning medical calls while I was gone. I usually have them call my phone, but being I was on vaca, I gave them his number. Oye vey! I think we are caught up on his appointments! I am going to see about getting him a 2nd opinion on his test results. There seems to be conflicting info. His Neurologist told him that he has an aneurysm in his aorta, I believe at 4.1, not large enough for surgery. I have checked with our family Dr. and all the test results from the hospital, via online patient info. and no such aneurysm can be found! They did find an old one in his brain behind his ear area. He was also told that he had had a light stroke about 10 yrs ago according to the scan.
I finally decided to go to our Dr. to see why my knee has been giving me so much trouble since my fall. He will be setting up an x-ray appoint. for me. He also gave me an antibiotic to get rid of my tummy troubles from my trip!
While I was there I asked him about Jim's test results. I sat right there while he went through then on his laptop. and couldn't find the aneurysm on his aorta. Not sure what to think of the whole thing!

We have had nice weather since I have been back. Tonight is the beginning of a nightmare! Parts of Michigan will be getting a foot of snow.We will be getting freezing rain, high winds and possible power outages which would last a few days due to the high winds! Yuck! Crazy Mother Nature!

I need to limp to the store for some storm supplies. Batteries are on the top of my list!
Later!

Mary just told me she peeked in and no one has been in the nest so I’ll check in.

Mary, the snow skipped us this time. The mountains got a lot but not us. The wind won’t seem to die down...every darn day. I feel like never combing my hair. It sounds as though it hit your area. I think you’ve had a harder winter than us.

Went to lunch with Barb. Did some more work in office and that’s about it. Boring life. Yesterday louis and I started working on garage cabinets. We have a lot of bags for donation. We’re going to continue this week.

Mary, I would be concerned too about two different dr reports on Jim. Those are pretty drastic differences. How’s your tummy doing? Better I hope. I wonder what’s going on with your knee. Is this the knee you had replaced? My dr is having me get X-rays next month on both my knees after four years just for a general look. I personally think it’s kind of strange after so long but oh well.

Barb, what’s going on at your place. Do the guys work on your house on weekends or getting started on Monday again? It might be nice to give you a rest although, I know you are anxious to get done. Are you pooped?

JL, remember we like hearing about what you think is a “boring” life. i don’t think it’s so boring. I just like hearing about your days.

Tomorrow night is the country music awards. I always love that show ...great music. Well, that’s all my babble for the day.

Dianne said...

Love the ACM Awards show tonight. It’s always so good and really like Reba.

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, I like most of the ACM show. Not a fan of hip hop sounding country though.
I loved Reba & Kelly!

Barb, I bet you are exhausted with all the packing and unpacking and moving furniture around! I hope you have a good helper!

JL, I miss you! I hope your weather is better then ours! Mother Nature is being very cruel to us this year!

Jim is still improving. He gets frustrated because he still feels weak. I think the meds hand the nasty weather has something to do with it. I know I get a bit depressed when the days are gloomy.

Dianne said...

Mary, I didn’t care for Carrie’s new song. I like her a lot but the song didn’t sound very country to me. I liked Toby and and Blake too . I just like him a lot..both of them. Your part of the country really had had it this winter. Ours has been so mild but more predicted for Saturday So you never know. Glad Jim’s progressing. It’s hard when things don’t happen as you want them too ...frustrating.

JL...I miss you too. Is all ok? It’s not like you to go so long posting.
Soooo, will you post more? Is your smiling face. How’s your son feeling btw?

Mary. You’re probably deep in sleep with all the work you’re doing. Not too many days...right?

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Here I am! Sorry I haven't checked in. I've just been really lazy the last couple of days and spent some time binge watching tv shows.

Your comment about not feeling like combing your hair made me laugh. It reminded me of my mother who hated to have the wind mess up her hair. One time when we were in Kauai, we sneaked off away from my husband and my brother while they were sleeping. It was night time and we thought we were just going to walk to a shopping center that was nearby to get Oreos and milk. It was very dark and rural and arrived to find the shopping center was closed. We saw a young couple in the parking lot and asked where we could get these treats and they explained about a 7-11 type market but said it was not safe to walk to it on the highway. I then asked if they could give us a ride. They said yes but we'd have to sit in the back. Okay, no problem. We assumed their vehicle was one of the few cars still in the parking lot. Nope! It was a pickup truck. On that ride to the market my mother's hair was whipping around so wildly! I was crying from laughing so hard. We did get our Oreos and milk and made it back to the hotel (it rained on us during that walk, making us laugh even more). The guys never new we were missing. I know it wasn't a very smart thing to do but it was an adventure that made us laugh every time we talked about it.

Well, my daughter and I have put down deposits for a 10 day Mexican Riviera cruise for late February. She's already compiled a wish list of excursions she wants to go on.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I hope you and yours are getting through the crazy weather happening in the eastern part of the US. Every time I look at the news it seems like there's a new storm. We had some crazy weather yesterday; alternating rain and sun, with some hail thrown in. Even before it started, my dog was quaking and I couldn't figure out why. The weatherman said there could be lightening and thunder so maybe my dog smelled it in the air or something. She doesn't get all nervous and shaking just because of normal rain. Today is lovely so far.

Jim is going to have to be patient. His body has gone through a trauma and it takes time to get back to normal. The conflicting medical information is confusing. It's also possible that Jim got some of the information wrong.

Just_Lin said...

Barb How's it going with the new floor? It sure looks great and I am looking forward to seeing it in person in a few weeks. Speaking of which, I desperately need some new clothes, especially tops. I hope I can remedy that before the Vegas trip.

My daughter has been so upset about my old broken down sofa and love seat. I kept telling her that I prefer to spend my money on experiences rather than things. Anyway, she bought me a new sofa and love seat that we found on clearance. It doesn't get delivered until the 25th. She had me go with her and two of her friends on Saturday to Living Spaces. We all felt like this particular sofa was comfortable to sit on. To be honest, if I was looking for the perfect ones, the color would be different. These are gray so I will work with that. The price was right (especially for me) and it was very generous of my daughter to buy them for me.

Testing

sacBarb said...

I did a test post and it worked. I made some changes on my phone settings and apparently it worked. My computer is still unplugged.

Dianne, the floor guys didn’t work on the weekend and I rested a LOT! They were back at it early Monday. They are almost done with the pool room and tomorrow will start the family room, which is the last room. The problem with doing a project like this is, when it’s done, it makes everything else look bad. Now I feel like I should paint all the walls. Except for the kitchen, they haven’t been painted in 25 years. It’s definitely time. I know if I start that, it won’t be done by the time J/L gets here for our trip to LV. On the other hand, everything is torn up and I hate to have to do it again. I am in a quandary!

J/L, How nice of Liz to buy you a couch and love seat. Grey is a nice neutral color and you can put almost any color with it. It’s fun to redecorate, even if you’re using your same stuff. Just rearranging can spruce up the place. Maybe getting some decorative pillows will brighten up the couches.

Mary, I do have a good helper, thank goodness. She has actually done most of the work, especially the heavy lifting. She is coming back Thursday to help put it all back together.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, I am so glad to hear you have a good helper! If I lived closer, I would help you paint!

JustLin,The last couch I bought is gray. It came with two cute floral pillows. For color I just put a colorful throw blanker across the side of it.Have fun shopping for tops!

Dianne,We are getting more snow tonight! I can't even blame you lol! I am blaming Hodi, cuz it's coming from her way lol!

Mary/MI said...

Well, today is the day! I never mentioned that I am trying a new hair salon today. I have been with my reg gal for over 15 years. I have not been happy with her work the last few times. She was not happy when I told her a few "coloring s" ago that my hair was almost black. I hated it. She knows I hate my hair too dark. Last time she still seemed miffed at me. I noticed she didn't use the usual products are fussed with my hair like she used to. She dried it with a big round brush and left it so puffed out that I wore a hat the rest of the day! My new place is a lot closer and I don't have to pump $3.00 worth of quarters in the meter! Wish me luck lol!
