Making A Baby

by Dianne

The Smiths were unable to conceive children and decided to
use a surrogate father to start their family. On the day the proxy father was to arrive, Mr. Smith kissed his wife goodbye and said, 'Well, I'm off now. The man should be here soon.'

Half an hour later, just by chance, a door-to-door baby photographer happened to ring the doorbell, hoping to make a sale. 'Good morning, Ma'am',  he said,  'I've come to...'

'Oh, no need to explain,' Mrs. Smith cut in, embarrassed,
'I've been expecting you.'

'Have you really?' said the photographer. 'Well, that's good. Did you know babies are my specialty?'

'Well that's what my husband and I had hoped. Please come in and have a seat !. ‘After a moment she asked, blushing, 'Well, where do we start?'

'Leave everything to me. I usually try two in the bathtub, one on the couch, and perhaps a couple on the bed. And sometimes the living room floor is fun. You can really spread out there.'

'Bathtub, living room floor? No wonder it didn't work out for Harry and me!'

'Well, Ma'am, none of us can guarantee a good one every time. But if we try several different positions and I shoot from six or seven angles, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.'

'My, that's a lot!', gasped Mrs. Smith..

'Ma'am, in my line of work a man has to take his time. I'd love to be
in and out in five minutes, but I'm sure you'd be disappointed with
that.'

'Don't I know it,' said Mrs. Smith quietly.

The photographer opened his briefcase and pulled out a portfolio
of his baby pictures. 'This was done on the top of a bus,' he said.

'Oh, my God!' Mrs. Smith exclaimed, grasping at her throat.

'And these twins turned out exceptionally well - when you consider
their mother was so difficult to work with.'

'She was difficult?' asked Mrs. Smith.

'Yes, I'm afraid so. I finally had to take her to the park to get the
job done right. People were crowding around four and five deep to get a good look.'

'Four and five deep?' said Mrs. Smith, her eyes wide with amazement..

'Yes', the photographer replied. 'And for more than three hours, too. The mother was constantly squealing and yelling - I could hardly concentrate, and when darkness approached, I had to rush my shots. Finally, when the squirrels began nibbling on my equipment, I just had to pack it all in.'

Mrs. Smith leaned forward. 'Do you mean they actually chewed on your, uh...equipment?'

'It's true, Ma'am, yes.. Well, if you're ready, I'll set-up my tripod and we can get to work right away.'

'Tripod?'

'Oh yes, Ma'am. I need to use a tripod to rest my Canon on. It's much too big to be held in the hand for long.'

Mrs. Smith fainted.

Hi....I get a laugh out of my blogs because I forget after I send them I long ago. Nothing like laughing at your own jokes.

Barb, gosh we haven’t heard from you forever. I know how busy you’ve been but hope you’re doing ok. How are things going? Did you decide to paint or not? Check in when you get a moment.

JL, I see you reading. What are you up too? Did you go out with your friends Tuesday night?

Mary, everything good with Jim? I see he got his chip in. Now how long will that stay in him? When does he go to the next dr? All these dr appts get tiring, don’t they? That book the hospital gave you sounds good. I have a book kind of like that I got from amazon quite some time ago. I recently purchased a new one to update everything. We have our will done, power of attorneys, living wills and now funeral all updated and completed. As I said before, I had a horrible experience with my late husbands brothers when he died and I don’t want to go thru that again.

We have rainy weather today. It’s in the very low 50’s and chilly. I had a bladder dr appt regarding that procedure I had done last year and it was for tomorrow. Made it for mid May as i have a different appt tomorrow. As I said.. i get sick of these dr appts.

Dianne LOL @ the blog. Good one!

Yes, I did go out with my friends on Tuesday night but not to celebrate my birthday. We will do that after I return from Vegas. Last night my friend, Kathy, took me to dinner at Benihana as a special birthday treat. She also made me a chocolate cake. Yum! I made her and her husband keep most of it but did bring home enough to have a small slice tonight and tomorrow night.

I haven't started the real packing for the Vegas trip, yet, but I do have meds ready to go and the dog's stuff ready to go to my daughter's. I'm still sorting out in my head what I want to pack as far as clothing goes. I always pack the day before a trip and I swear I'm doing last minute laundry then, too. I'm not used to flying Southwest. Here's hoping that Lynn, Barb, and I all make it to our destination without any cracked windows or plane parts flying off.

Mary Yes, my feet do touch the floor when I sit on my new couch. This is why I had to try them all out when I was shopping for it with my daughter. Some have such deep seats than even my feet don't touch the floor comfortably. Plus, I want decent back support.

I'm so glad Jim is doing well. I assume you got the confusion about the aorta thing all straightened out. I understand why Jim would feel uneasy about it but there really is no other choice but to get it fixed.

I'm taking a pair of capris to Vegas as it is going to be in the 90's (ugh) but my legs will be the same white as Wonder Bread. Very unattractive. Do you still have your tan?

Barb You better hurry up and get in here before I sic Dianne on you.

Dianne, LOL, at your joke!
I have no idea how long the chip will be in. A friend of mine's husband has had his in for 3 years. May 17th we go the see the specialist for his aorta. He will must likely have to have surgery on it. We are both worried about it!
Jim is doing pretty good. Still tires easily and has a dry cough. Matthew has taken over a lot of his chores. We painted our entire patio. It has soooo many rails! Matthew is out mowing right now. He plowed the garden and is doing some repairs on the porch where Jim backed into and broke a hand rail. This was before his stroke. Finally getting fixed.

Justlin, I sure wish I was going to Vegas. I love going to shows an people watch! I wait till the last minute to pack too. I guess I have traveled so much that i pretty much know what to throw in my luggage lol! I love capris!
We still have not seen the particular test on Jim's aorta, but have been convinced it is true. The specialist returned my message stating that the test was accurate and available to be seen at the hospital's testing lab. I guess we were hoping it was someone else test :(.

I think we may have to gather some bail money for Barb. I will have to find out where they are holding her lol!!

Barb...I’m getting ready to come looking for you. I did text with her the other night and she was on her way to bed exhausted. I won’t “nag” her since she’s been so busy with her house. I’m Reasonable!

JL, have a great time in Vegas. I’m sure you will. Your picture with your friend is very nice of you. You are too hard on yourself about weight. You look good. Sounds like you had a nice dinner with your friend. I like a couch like you good back support and easy to get up from (not too low). I personally prefer to sit on chairs as some couches sink really low. I could never pack the night before a trip completely. I’m already thinking about the packing for our June trip. I should start now. Whew, 90 is a little hot for me. I’ll have to face that on our vacation plus yucky humidity. It’s a bet I won’t be outside much. Louis wants to go on a picnic when we are visiting his girls. It will probably only be about 100!

Mary, I know you are worried about Jim. I would be too but the extra good news is that he’s under dr care. What kind of surgery would he have to get done? Do you have any idea? Is Jim able to drive? I’m thinking maybe not yet.
You sure have a nice tan. It’s good your son is there helping out so much. You are a busy bee doing all that painting.

Well, today Louis had to get all his grades turned in for the end of the year. He has an out of town meeting next week and the 11th will be his official last day if working. We celebrated going to dinner with my uncle and wife. They met us at Red Lobster and Louis didn’t know they were coming. I planned it a couple of weeks ago and treated everyone. They brought a really nice retirement card for him. I don’t think it’s sunk in to LOUIS that he’s done working. He’s going to do a small amount of teaching like two classes in the fall.

Got my hair back to normal color today and nails tomorrow. I’ve gone a month on nails and will be glad to get them done and shorter. Hard to type.

Hello my lovely Owls. I am so sorry I have neglected you all. This house project has been overwhelming and has taken on a life of its own. The floors are finally done. Aaron came over on Wednesday and finished the trim in the family room. It used to be the garage and has cement all around the walls where a baseboard should be, so he had to figure out how to put the wood up to make it look like a baseboard. I had to order more trim. He did a really good job and I am very pleased with the result.

I got two more area rugs at Ross, one for $79 and the other for $109. They both look good. I got the rug for the pool room at Wayfair and it was almost $300 but its 10' x 16 and was the cheapest I could find. The pad for it cost almost as much as the rug. I didn't take into consideration all the additional stuff I would need when I made the decision to do this project. I am finally going to get an estimate for the painting today. I called two other painters that never called me back, so I hope this guy shows up.

I will go back and read what I missed at some point, but now I need to get dressed. I don't want to scare the painter.

Happy Sunday! Just checking in.
I will soon be off to a baby shower. It is about a 30 min. drive. I am not fond of the games lol! The couple are not married, which is no big deal now a days I guess. I don't know the gal. I am good friends with the young man's Mother. I was with him and his Mother when he was born. His father , a very skiddish Vietnam Vet, just couldn't get himself to be there. He had already lost one baby. The baby " Quinn" was barley 2 lbs when born. I used to beg his Mom not to drink or smoke while pregnant. She laughed me off and said there was no proof of that. This was over 24 yrs ago. Well her tiny baby almost died! He was in the incubator for a couple of months.I was there every day. He fit into a G.I. Joe doll outfit I bought him! Thank goodness, except for being small/short, he has no lasting side effects from being a preemie.
Later.... Have a great day!!

Barb, I hope you had a great Birthday! I know you are in Vegas having a ball!
Love that city! It has gotten pretty pricey. I miss the "old Vegas!" I loved going to the sands. They had the best lounge acts, next to the Stardust. We used to get the best comps from the Stardust. Loved being picked up by a limo. Fun seeing the driver standing in the luggage area with a sign with our name on it. Now we are lucky to get free rooms!

My Dr thinks I may have some kind of separation on my knee contraption. He is referring me to a knee specialist, which happens to be the one who did the original replacement. It has been over 14 yrs, so he may suggest a new replacement. Too much going on with Jim, so may have to put "me" off for a while. I just hope the pain doesn't get worse :(

Hi...big bday JL...have fun! You get to celebrate all month! How fun to celebrate in Vegas. Maybe you’ll win some money too. I haven’t been there since a year ago last December for the George Strait concert. It was fun those couple of days. Did you get a couple of new tops shopping before you left?

Barb, I’ll bet you are glad to get away from all that house stuff. Now you can relax a little. Saw you were hanging out by pool having a drink or two. Is it hot there? Hope you win big too. Tell Lynn hello and that I still wear the bracelet she made us frequently. Enjoy Elton John. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

Mary, interesting about your knee. I just had to get knee X-rays today for a follow up on my replacements from 2012 and 2006. I think it was kind of silly to get them but dr ordered. I already got results that they were fine so have hope. Maybe a shot or something will help you. My left knee didn’t get the knee cap replaced in 2006 and that’s what bothers me. It gets really stiff. I don’t like to hear you putting yourself on hold but totally understand. I’ll put you in prayers that it’s an easy fix and that the pain will be better. You do alot of things and walking dispite it hurting, I think.
Boy, that must have been fun in the old Vegas days. Why do things have to change so much?

I had mammogram also today and then still had a dr appt this afternoon. Too much dr things. I had two out of town good friends pass away last week. One my age from ALS and the other from heart I think. They both donated their bodies to science. I’ve never known anyone that has done that when they passed. The friend with heart we were hoping to meet he and his wife for lunch on our June vacation...very sad.

P. S. Bail $ low behave JL and Barb!!

Dianne, so sorry about your friends passing :( Thanks for the prayers. I need them lol! I went to vote on a a school millage "sinking fund". So far it is a tight race.
I stopped to visit a friend who recently retired. She is having a hard time adjusting. She is such a sweet gal. She got teared up just talking about it. I told her it was a normal thing after working with good people for so many years.

SacBarbI love seeing all your Vegas posts!! I get excited just knowing you are there lol!!

Well. Hi....I’m not doing so great. I have a horrible lower body rash. I was scared it was shingles ascits very painful. It’s not. Been to primary twice,n ER the other night for pain and dermo today. Taking lots of meds, etc. LOUIS has been gone for two days for meetings and retirement. He came home today. He didn’t want to leave me but I pretended to be better as I didn’t want him to miss it. Then today after dr and pharmacy, I pulled into garage and then closed door. I then decided I needed to do something else and opened garage and i guess I started backing out before it was all the way opened and it hit my car. Long story it wouldn't close so I got a guy to come over for a lot of $ and bandaid the door so it would close. LOUIS came home about an hour later knowing what was going on. We now need a new door and getting it tomorrow. Another thing not in the budget! I’ve been in tears and a couple of meltdowns with all this mess I’m creating.

That’s my big whine for the day. Er dr gave me five (yes five) percoset. I took one yesterday while LOUIS was gone and slept most of yesterday.

Louis is having some sad moments briefly saying good bye even though he’s going to teach two classes in the fall. I didn’t have any sad moments when I retired. Just miss my friends.

Barb and JL...looks like you are having lots of fun. I can’t remember when you come home. Hope you’ve won some $ too. More than that 43 cents the other day, Barb.

Dianne! I feel so bad for you! Sending big hugs and healing vibes your way! A huge prayer going to the big man upstairs! You have had more then your share of crap! Don't be so hard on yourself, it happens to all of us at one time or another. I'm praying your bad days will be far behind you soon! I wonder if stress has something to do with your rash? Please be kind to yourself I love you sweetie!

Dianne said...

Thank you Mary...you’re such a sweet great friend. I don’t know if some of this could be stress also. I certainly feel it right now. One good thing today...I called our homeowners insurance today to see if we would be covered on this and we might be after all. I sent the invoice and pictures of broken door and they will make a decision ...worth a try! That would take some stress off that’s for sure! I do have the weirdest things happen to me. Why can’t it just be a cold and move on....no crazy things out of the blue. I do feel better today...not well but better.

LOUIS was gone today for his retirement day so I had to do the garage stuff...guys work. I did it though. Heck, i did it alone with young children many years ago.... I’m tough. Lol. I got LOUIS a little present for his retirement from Apple and then a couple of retirement shirts. Family had a dinner out Outback, so that was nice.

Thanks for the prayers, Mary. Xxoo

Happy Mother’s Day to my owlets and possible lurkers ;)
Had a good day. Jim and Matthew got me beautiful cards, candy and my fave, lottery tickets lol. I baked a turkey breast with all the trimmings. Kitchen is all cleaned up laundry done, and dusting. I ordered one of those round robot vacuumes I’m calling her Reba lol. I am amazed how much that thing picks up! I saw it on “ The Talk” as one of their picks of the day. Not bad price. I have been wanting one, but the prices have been more then I wanted to pay. I really only need it for under the beds and furniture. Works great! It can even do light washing. I keep “Reba” hooked up in Matthew’s room because she and Zoie don’t get along lol!
I am meeting up with Karina tomorrow for lunch. We are meeting half way since it is a long way for us to drive. She may be moving again and we were afraid of not connecting one more time.
Later,,,,,
