Hello, hooters and a Merry Christmas to you all. Seems like things have been quiet on the blog lately. I hope you all had a good day. Barb, I also hope you are enjoying your San Diego family and holiday. I’ll bet your weather is nice too. Actually, we have enjoyed a nice balmy day here...no snow! We ended going with the kids to Andy and Wendy’s for part of the day. Tammy had to stay home as she could barely get up yesterday. She’s in horrible pain from surgery. She just wanted to take her pain pills but for the kids to have Christmas. She didn’t want us there either. We will celebrate with Tammy and James in a couple of weeks. Thank goodness she is better somewhat today. She finally was able to take a shower. I think she was very cheerful about it. It’s hard for me to go over there as she is upstairs ...a. Lot of stairs. The kids are taking good care of her too and Louis has taken breakfast a few mornings when James was working. Her recovery is 8-12 weeks. She ended up with a broken ankle and leg. We went to Todd’s last night for a nice prime rib dinner and gift exchange.

Mary and JL, what did you both do today? JL, I believe your daughter is there now too.

Merry Christmas my dear friends. I had a really nice time with Todd, Vicki and Sakima dog. Todd cooked a prime rib and their good friends, Terry and Marisa, joined us. It has rained off and on since I arrived. We went to see Star Wars on Christmas Eve afternoon and to church after that. Then we watched Christmas movies until bedtime.

Dianne, I am so sorry Tammy is in such pain. I pray her recovery gets easier. I’m glad the girls are helping her. How is your back doing?

J/L and Mary, I hope you both had a good Christmas. 🎄

Love you all. ~Barb 💖

Dianne It sounds like you had a lovely day. I feel bad for Tammy as she was certainly not having a fun time of it. I totally understand her not wanted to celebrate with others until she is feeling better. It must have been difficult for her to get upstairs with that injury.

My daughter is here and we spent Christmas day being lazy and binge watching shows on Netflex as we were able to sign into her account. Our original plan had been to go out to this fancy steakhouse for dinner of Christmas night but then we changed our reservation and went there on Christmas Eve instead. The reason we did that was because we heard it was going to be raining on Christmas Day and we thought it sounded good to stay in on that day and just be cozy. Well, it never did rain and was just cold and gray. She took the dogs (her two and my one) out for a walk but otherwise we were just cozy on couches. Our dinners on Christmas Eve were fabulous. There were lots of presents and treats for the dogs. My daughter really goes overboard with that. You'd think they were children. LOL

Barb It sounds like you had a lovely day, too. Was Todd surprised to see the ornaments he made as a kid or did he know you were bringing them?

The day before Christmas Eve, my daughter and I met up with my son and grandkids. We chose a Black Bear Diner which is a little more than an hour away from me. Unfortunately, it took my son and grandkids over two hours to get there from where they traveled from so I think we will choose a different spot to meet next time, one closer to half way for both of us. Anyway, it was really good to see them and we had a nice visit and breakfast.

I hope you're having nice weather during your visit. We have some sunshine and blue skies today.

Mary It sounds like you were going to be quite busy on Christmas. Did you make your enchiladas?

I'm sorry Jim's sister isn't improving much but I'm glad family were able to make the trip to visit her.

J/L, It has rained almost every day since I’ve been here and it’s also been very cold. Todd got a heated throw for me and gave it to me as soon as I got here. He knew I would be cold. I’ve used it every night and even took it in the living room when we watched TV. I love it! He also gave me a Tiffany open heart necklace. He gave Vicki a Tiffany bracelet, plus a lot of other stuff she had on her Amazon wish list. She got him a lot of stuff from his Amazon wish list, too. Since they don’t have kids, they can do that! I will be leaving for home tomorrow at 4:30 and arriving in Sac at 5:55. The visit was nice, but I’ll be happy to sleep in my own bed and see the kitties.

Dianne, I hope Tammy is doing better and her pain is lessening. Is she going to be off work for the 4-6 weeks of healing?

Mary, where are you? Did you wear yourself out cooking on Christmas day? I love the pic you posted on FB of you and Raquel.

Hi all!
Christmas Eve was quiet. I went to a beautiful Christmas program, which put me in a festive mood :)
Matthew loved that Christmas Eve landed on Taco Tuesday lol!
That's what we had along with rice home made chips & beans With Home made Christmas cookies for desert.
Christmas day we usually celebrate with son Tony & his wife, but as I said earlier, he & his wife flew to Spokane to visit his son, my Grandson Logan. They are the ones who recently had twins. They also have a 2 yr old. 3 girls :)
I made NY Strip steaks with baked potatoes and salad. The steaks were so big, we filled up fast! Naps were called for lol!
Thursday I drove to my sister Lena's home to exchange gifts. Raquel and her beautiful Myla were there. She was having a 5:00 dinner. It is an almost 2 hr trip with many on/off hy-ways and bad traffic. Most are semi s going toward Chicago to and from Detroit! I didn't stay long as I hate driving in the dark, Also, getting to her house is tricky! One wrong move and you can land in the "hood" lol! She only lives a few blocks from Raquel in a nice neighborhood.
Today was quiet. I did get out. I had left my gas tank close to empty after my trip. I was too pooped to stop. Had to go to the vet to pick up Zoie's dog chews, hit the PO,buy gross-eries, and drop up newspapers at recycling center.
I had Jim buy take-out. So,,,, here I am having after dinner Sangria :)

Hi....nice and cold and snowy here today...yuck! We got about 4” of snow and temp in low 20’s. Barb and I ventured out to the movies and saw Last Christmas. It was a very cute surprise ending movie. We ate in the area of the theater and brought dinner home for Louis. Barb and I did our Christmas this afternoon.

Mary, you sound busy as usual. Glad you had a nice Christmas. Your dinner sounds good. I love steak. I don’t like driving in the dark either. You are probably getting bad weather too by watching the news tonight. I’m ready for winter to be over.

Barb, darn on the weather. I thought it was always nice in San Diego. Todd and his wife got you very nice gifts. Tammy is not doing great. She was able to take another shower today but then the pain sends her right back to bed. She hoping she can work from home for a week or two. She doesn’t want to miss work. She has a long way to go before she can manage going back to work. We play your raiders here tmrw!

JL, nice you were able to spend time with both kids. Sounds like you also had a nice day. Any plans for New Years? I’d like to do something during the day on New Year’s Day nut info t know what....as long as it’s not snowing.

Dianne, we are still getting mild weather. In the high 4o's and 50s. Loving it! It did rain today, but most of the day was decent. We have one more week of "easy" weather, then I am sure winter will come in with a vengeance! I know it's still Dec., but I am sooo looking forward to Spring!
I went to a funeral this afternoon. An elderly lady friend passed away. She had been on oxygen for many years and in frail condition. I new her and her brother had been in the outs most of their adult lives, so I was surprised he was at the funeral. I wasn't sure it was him. He was a couple pews ahead of me. He had his head lowered the whole time he was there. I am assuming it was because of the large screen showing non stop pics of his sis and family. He was not in any of them. There were two huge pictures of her by her ashes. After the service I saw him get in his car. I waved and he waved back. I am sure he was uncomfortable, but glad he went. How sad to waste so many years on who knows what kind of grudge!
We have always gone to dinner on NYE with Jim sis and hubby. We haven't missed a dinner in 40 yrs! She is the one who had the massive stroke and in the hospital, (Shirley). We weren't sure what Bro-in law,(Ken) would say if we asked him to dinner without Shirley. He happily said yes. The whole thing has taken a toll on him and I am sure he was ready for a dinner with us. I have invited to dinner at our home a few times, but he says, after being at the hospital all day, he just wants to go home. WQe live 15 miles from him.
SacBarb lol, yes I did poop out after Christmas! I love that Raquel's phone camera leaves out my wrinkles and blemishes! I loved it too! Your son is very thoughtful to have a warm blanket ready for you. Matthew got me a new Fitbit. He said he noticed how nasty my old one was lol! He also got me two beautiful silver replaceable bands to go with it.
Jim, as usual couldn't think of a thing to give me so he gave me ca$h. Works for me lol!

JustLin,I have never heard of a "Black Bear" dinner. Is that only in Cali? Movie binging sounds like fun. You are lucky to have a daughter who will do it with you. Having sons is just not the same lol!
Thanks for asking about my SIL, she is pretty much the same. She can't be moved to our local rehab nursing home until she is taken off her neck trech. I think it would help her to have friends & family close by visiting her.

Have a wonderful NYE and be safe! No lamp shade and booze shenanigans!

Well, we barely beat the Raiders today but we did by a point. JL ..I’m cheering for your 49ers right now

Dianne said...

JL, well...thrilling game and you won. .I’m for you to go to super bowl against Kansas City. Can’t believe patriots lost to Miami at home today. Serves them right!

Mary, keep, enjoying that nice weather. We had sun and cold today but at least sun. Glad your brother in law is going to dinner with you. It will probably be nice for him to get out. I’m sorry Jim’s sister is still struggling. That’s sad about your friends brother. Life is so short to hold a grudge. Nice gifts from your son and Jim. Cash is always nice!

Barb, I think you’re home now. We’re your kitties and Chad glad to see you? I’ll bet they all missed you. Tammy is a tiny bit better. Her massage lady came over to her house and gave her a massage and helped her try the knee scooter. She said it helped a lot. She still hasn’t gone downstairs yet.

Today I met a previous coworker for lunch and then had my nails done. That’s about my day. Came home and finished watching the bronco game, took a nap, watched the 49ers game. Thrilling day! Tmrw we are having furnace checked as it’s making. A whiny noise when it starts up for a few seconds. Hope that won’t be costly

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Well, our 49er game sure was a nail biter, wasn't it? I must admit it had me saying a bad word now and then. LOL

That's nice that Tammy's masseuse was able to make a house call. I bet it did make her feel better. She must be starting to have cabin fever about now. It would be scary to try to go down the stairs with the injury she has. I guess she's going to have to do it eventually. Is she all alone during the day?

I would love to go see the new "Little Women". I don't know when that will happen, though.

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, Hope that Furnace has a quick cheap fix! Our whole house is on electric. Bad news when power goes out! This could happen this week as we are getting high winds and expecting snow. We got a lot of rain last night. Our tiny creek is huge now! It is close to our house, but at a deep drop so no worries about it reaching us. I may post a vid I took today.
Our Lions really suck this year! Oh well, we should be getting first draft pic. Need about 7 lol!!

Mary LOL @ lamp shade and booze shenanigans! My daughter and her dogs left yesterday just for a few nights. She's gone on a girl's trip with several of her friends. They've gone to a seaside town further north. I'm sure they are having a grand time and they will be away from the noise of illegal fireworks on NYE which frightens the dogs. My poor dog will have to put up with it here. She and I will be alone here and I don't think she'd want to wear a lamp shade. LOL

That's really sad about the rift between your friend and her brother. There may have been a very good reason for it, though. Sometimes you need to distance yourself from people who use you. Sad but true. It would be interesting to know what the back story was on that.

I hope you put aside your cash from Jim so you can truly use it for something you want and not end up using it on regular household expenses.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Are you all settled back home now? I bet the kitties missed you and were glad to have you to snuggle up to in bed again. What did you do about the special blanket Todd got you for your visit? Is it staying at their house or did you pack it and bring it home?

I still have two types of cookies here from all my Christmas baking. In addition, my daughter made Bourbon Balls and a friend gave us a bunch of See's candy. It's good that Christmas only comes once a year. LOL

The other day, my daughter and I went with my friends to a Mongolian BBQ place down by Stanford Shopping Center. I had been there once before and wanted my daughter to try it. It was so yummy! You take a bowl (or two) and fill it with noodles and the meats you want (which are very thin cut and frozen) then pile on whatever vegetables you want ( I like bean sprouts, mushrooms, spinach) and then pour a selection of oils and vinegar (they give you suggested recipes to follow) and then they take your bowl and basically stir-fry it on top of a large drum-like cooking surface. It is so darn tasty! It is all you can eat for $13.95 plus tax and tip. I did go back and fill a second bowl. The others were smarter and filled two bowls each in the first place. If you have one up there in Sac, I highly recommend you and Chad give it a try.

J/L, Todd told me to take the blanket home and he would buy another one to keep at his house. We really had a nice time. We went to see the new Star Wars movie on Christmas Eve day even though they had already seen it. They are big Star Wars fans. Chad and Arch went to see it on Christmas night. They didn’t want to know anything about it beforehand so they avoided the internet until after Christmas. Chad bought a two bone prime rib and cooked it on Christmas and ate the leftovers for the rest of the week. I hope Ursula doesn’t get too anxious from the fireworks on NYE. We didn’t have to much of that last year and luckily the cats weren’t too bothered. Hope it’s quiet this year, too. Chad gave the card and cash I left, to the housekeepers and watched as they opened it outside by their car. He said they looked happy with what I gave them. Thanks for the advice.

Dianne, I am praying for Tammy to heal quickly. I’m so sorry she is having such a difficult time. How nice that she could get a massage at home. Chad and I didn’t watch the game on Sunday, but when we saw the score, we figured it was a last minute loss for the Raiders. 😩 They just seem to fall apart in the second half pretty consistently. Neither Chad nor the kitties seemed to miss me much. Chad said Mellie followed him around the house quite a bit. Tara pretty much stays to herself a lot. She likes to look out the patio door at the squirrels and birds that frequent the back yard.

sacBarb said...

J/L, I forgot to mention that we really like Mongolian BBQ. Bob discovered one that opened very close to our house in the early 80’s and we would go with the kids about twice a month. The couple that owned it was very friendly and encouraged everyone to go back for more. Chad and I have been a few times since he moved back to Sac.

Mary, LOL at doing taco Tuesday for Christmas Eve. Italian tradition is typically cooking a meal of 7 fishes on Christmas Eve, but my Mom dispensed with that tradition when all the relatives started moving away. It was just too much food for our family of five and two or three guests. So we usually have spaghetti with clam sauce and one other seafood dish. This year at Todd’s they cooked lobster and crab cakes instead of the spaghetti. It was very good. Even though it rained, the sun came out intermittently. It doesn’t rain often there and because of that, the people don’t know how to drive in the rain. It drives Todd crazy! We saw remnants of several accidents when we ventured out. San Diego traffic is crazy most of the time. I am glad I don’t have to drive in it.
