Shopping at Wal-Mart

by Dianne

A woman goes into Wal-Mart to buy a rod and reel. She doesn’t know which one to get so she just grabs one and goes over to the register. There is a Wal-Mart “associate” standing there with dark shades on.

She says, “Excuse me sir…can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?”

He says, “Ma’am I’m blind but if you will drop it on the counter I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound that it makes.”

She didn’t believe him, but dropped it on the counter anyway.

He said, “That’s a 6′ graphite rod with a Zebco 202 reel and 10 lb. test line…It’s a good all-around rod and reel and it’s only $20.00”.

She says, “That’s amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I think it’s what I’m looking for so I’ll take it.”

He walks behind the counter to the register, and in the meantime the woman breaks wind big-time.

At first she is embarrassed but then realizes that there is no way he could tell it was her . . . being blind he wouldn’t know that she was the only person around. He rings up the sale and says, “That will be $25.50.”

She says, “But didn’t you say it was $20.00?”

He says, “Yes ma’am, the rod and reel is $20.00, the duck call is $3.00, and the catfish stink bait is $2.50.”

Ok.....let’s get this blog moving again. Looks like things have been much too quiet and I might have to go around and nudge a little. Barb, I saw on fb that you were going to a show. Was that today? I can’t remember even what day it is right now. I just about thought it was time to move the clocks ahead but not quite yet.

JL, I’m so sorry about your good friend. How old was he? It seemed sudden. I’m sure Jane is glad to have you for a friend. We know how hard it can be to deal with losing a spouse. Thanks for checking on us so often.

Mary, what are you up to? Been doing anything fun? You can bet we won’t be cruising for awhile. My ex sil and wife planned a Christmas cruise for all of our Christmas gift this year. I called travel agent and backed us out of it. I’m just not ready to cruise so soon and with all the virus going around. We have a road trip to see Louis’s daughters In May that I don’t think I’ll get out of this year. He hasn’t seen them for two years, soooo

Thank you to,all of you being such good friends.

Dianne, I hope you and Louis are feeling much better. I don’t blame you for backing out of the cruise. Right now there’s a cruise ship being held off shore at San Francisco and 21 people With symptoms have been Diagnosed with the virus, so they are testing everyone, even those without symptoms, according to our news stations. Maybe you can postpone your road trip until things calm down on the virus front. Traveling is not recommended for a while especially for people with a compromised immune system. And since both of you have been sick, it would probably be prudent to stay home for a while. 💕.

Barb I'm sure glad that my daughter and I took our Princess cruise to Mexico February of last year and not February of this year. It's basically the same cruise that is now stuck off the coast.

My big activities for today were getting my hair cut and dyed and getting gas in my car. Otherwise, I haven't been up to much except for spending extra time with Jane. She does have some family here in town which have been a real blessing for her. I've had her over for dinner and movies a couple of times and we've also gone out to dinner. She and her family are planning a Celebration of Life for John on the 21st so that is keeping her mind occupied, too.

Speaking of movies....We rented "It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" On Demand the other night and we both thought it was excellent.

Dianne I have plans to meet former co-workers for breakfast on Sunday so I sure hope we all remember to move our clocks ahead an hour Saturday night.

Well, phooey. I'm sure sorry you will miss the cruise in December. I can understand not wanting to cruise for a while with your recent experience which you are still dealing with and now the worry about this stupid virus. I'm sure the virus thing will be a bad memory by then.

With you and Louis both recovering at the same time, I'm sure glad you have family and friends to help you out.

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, Welcome back! Good seeing you back on the blog! You have been missed!
I have been worried about you two! I would have done things just the opposite , lol! I would have cancelled the road trip and gone on the cruise. I do understand your concerns though.

JustLin, it's always fun meeting co workers. I look forward to it every month. I have skipped the Union retirees pot-lucks. Too many cooks who may or may not have been ill while cooking their dishes. I had a bad tummy attach after the last one. This month's lunch with my co workers is at a restaurant near me. Yay! Jim usually goes to those.

Barb, I agree with you about "people with a compromised immune system. would probably be prudent to stay home for a while". It's too early in the virus stage to take risks.

Our weather has been beautiful. Not so much warm, but snow free lol! We have had sunshine with windy conditions. This week is supposed to be warmer. Zoie and I just came in from sitting on the porch and drinking in the "rays".
I have been dealing with a lot of pain these last few weeks. It runs from my neck to my shoulder and near my armpit area. I have been to a massage therapist, taken Motrin, which used to helps, taken
CBD" gummies, gummies with "thc", which only gets me high lol! The CBD gummies don't get me high and help a bit.
I am due for my 6 month mammogram since my biopsy. I have been worried there may be some connection, as My breast is tender too. I hope not!
Our primary Dr retired last year so we have bee seeing a Drs assistant, who has just blown off some of my concerns. I called the office this week and asked to see the reg Dr. After I explained my concerns, she managed to fit me in on the 19th. I am getting the Mammogram this coming week. Keep fingers crossed and send a few prayers TY :)
Hope it is just my shoulder from all the lifting I have done since Jim's stroke. Matt's back is not good. Jim, is just spoiled and lazy! I need to get him off his ars lol!

Just_Lin said...

Mary I'm so sorry about your neck/shoulder/breast issue. Hopefully, it is just from doing some heavy lifting that you should not be doing. I'm glad you will be able to get in to see the doctor and also that you have your mammogram soon.

My grieving friend, Jane, is going with her theater group to see "The Last Ship" in San Francisco today. It's a play written by and starring Sting. Her group has season tickets for the plays that come to SF. I've been able to go along with them a couple of times when one is sick or unable to go. If that opportunity had come up for today's performance, I might be a bit torn on if I should go being as it is tight seating and concerns about the virus. On the other hand, would have loved to see Sting live in his play.

Oh, we had a nice, soft rain this morning. Yay! We had zero rain all through February.

sacBarb said...

J/L, I was concerned about going to see A Bronx Tale last Thursday, because of the virus thing, but I really wanted to see the show. There were a lot of empty seats, so I guess a lot of people had concerns, too.
It sounds like Jane is doing OK, under the circumstances. You are a good friend to be keeping her busy, having gone through it yourself. That’s important.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I am so sorry you are having so much pain. I hope the doc can give you something that will relieve it. I have tried CBD with and without THC and really haven’t had much luck, either. I will pray everything turns out OK.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I hope you and Louis are feeling better. I wish we lived closer so I could help you.

Hi...we’re both feeling somewhat better. Except for drs I’m home all week. Here’s my schedule....primary today for arm, home health care for my arm Wednesday, foot dr for toe on Thursday, primary for arm Friday, primary for arm and physical next Monday. My arm is still draining as of today. It’s very raw as it’s a surface wound. They say I will have quite a scar from it. Louis wraps my toe with a cream every night. Tmrw I will finally get another shower. We had to wait for a special cover for arm. Louis has been helping me wash my hair in sink. Tmrw our ins guy is coming over to help us submit ship medical bills and then my friend is bringing chicken soup over to us in the afternoon. I was lucky enough to have two friends from work days come visit and bring food yesterday. Im very fortunate to have so many good friends. I let the family know yesterday that we were canceling def cruise. They all think I’m jumping the gun. I think Louis thinks so too. Im just not comfortable with the virus, Mexico and our immune system. I may regret it come October but for now I’m ok with it. We are feeling better today although I still had Louis drive me to dr.

Mary, I pray all goes good for you with Dr and mammogram. Keep us updated. I do t like pot lucks either with strangers. Could be gross.
JL...we loved that movie too.
Barb, I missed Oprah on sat and I’ll be missing Blake Shelton this weekend. I have Celine Dion gift with pat and I’ll probably go to it
unless it would hopefully be postponed. I just can’t tell pat we are going to waste two more expensive tickets after she had bought us the
Oprah ones. I’m bummed about missing Blake but Tammy is in no shape to be pushing me.

Dianne, I think it’s better to be safe than take chances with this virus. I know it seems like overreacting, but in our age group we need to be cautious, especially if we have issues that compromise our immune system. There isn’t a vaccine yet and not even enough tests to determine who all may have the virus. Sheenah and I have been going to exercise class at the senior center on M-W-F mornings for two weeks and tonight we have decided to suspend our going until things settle down. After listening to the news tonight it has made me reconsider going out where there are large crowds. Chad is also concerned about me being in crowds because I have so many health issues. The $$$ isn’t worth getting sick.

Dianne said...

Barb, I agree with you. It’s just darn scary. It’s hard to know what to do. Our ins guy came over today to help us get our cruise medical bills ready to submit. My friend Mary came over later today. She brought lasagna. We have lots of food! Everyone’s been so nice. Tmrw I have home health care coming to change arm bandage. My toe is looking so much better today. My bruises are lessening too. Finally! I told Louis I keep thinking about that fall. He told me to quit thinking about it. Oh ok....like I’m trying to think about it? Not! It was just so scary.

I watched the bachelor finale tonight. I don't watch the show, just read about it. I then get all involved and wat hi the end. so what did you all think of the ending? I think that mom is a bitch! Good luck getting her to like you. I’ll be interested to see what you all have to say

Barb Today I went to the local Verizon store to straighten out an issue I was having with my account. I noticed the young guy helping me had a bottle of hand sanitizer on his desk. When I was done and leaving the store, I noticed another bottle on a table closer to the door so I stopped and used it on my hands. The young man who had helped me said, "That's screen cleaner". LOL LOL LOL He then invited me to use the sanitizer on his desk. He was probably thinking, "What a stupid old lady!".

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I think Barb and I both have the same feeling about the Bachelor finale as you do. We were watching at the same time and texting our remarks to each other. My friend Jane was here, too, so she watched it with me, also, even though she doesn't normally watch the show. I do agree with Peter's mom that their life styles are too different but the heart wants what it wants and they are going to have to find that out for themselves. In the meantime, it is really unfortunately that she is being so mean-spirited about the whole thing. I don't recall any family member ever inserting themselves into the relationship the way Peter's mom has. She is way too invested and emotional. Maybe she's the main reason he is still a bachelor in the first place.

Just_Lin said...

Mary What are you up to? How's that shoulder of yours?

Mary/MI said...

Hi all. Had my mamo then to be safe I had a ultrasound. The spot is still tiny and they don’t seem concerned. As for my shoulder, it is really causing me a lot of pain. I sleep a lot because I have to take so much Motrin . It only helps for a short while. Having a half of a gummy twice a day makes me groggy too. Today I had a hair appointment . We decided to go to the America Legion fish fry. I came home and took more pills and Zoie and I took a nap.
The 19th seems a long way away before I see my Dr! I usually have a very high pain tolerance, but this has me down.
Matthew has 3 weeks off from his school bus job. Our Governor has closed down all schools until next month.
I’ll try writing tomorrow. Hurts to hold this phone. Our internet has been wonkey all week.

Dianne said...

Mary, glad your mammo turned out good. maybe you should try and get in Dr sooner. I know it’s so hard to get in these drs. I hope you get better soon. I do know how it’s easier to sleep thru pain if possible. I’m really sorry you’re in pain. I think all the schools are closed down now. Our churches have closed down too.

I went in for bandage change today. Dr says arm looking better. I think it still looks gross. My foot dr released me yesterday., so that’s a relief. I go in for physical Monday but I’m going to see if Dr wants me to wait so I don’t have to be in dr office. They are saying not to go if not urgent. I’ve been home all week and getting cabin fever. It snowed some today but not much.

JL and barb...well, they already broke up! That was quicker than I thought it would be this time. It’s that mom but I agree that it’s probably why he’s a bachelor. Funny JL about you using screen cleaner on your hands. You’re just being safe! We went to store briefly last night just for a couple of things. It was packed between everyone stocking up and possible snow. We were able to get our few things but tp, wipes, pasta, rice....all sold out.

Hope everyone staying safe. All our churches have closed down. Scary stuff going on.

Dianne, I am so glad you are doing better! I hate when my owls are hurting :(
I took it easy today. I am trying not lifting too much, as it really aggravates my shoulder. I have been out on the patio doing Tai chi and other stretches.
I am so glad I stocked up on everything last week before all this hoarding! All I am out of is lettuce. I will venture out tomorrow.
Give Louis a big ole hug for me and hope he is doing well.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Churches and schools closed here, too. Got a call today that the senior center is closed until at least the end of March possibly longer. Of course, Sheenah and I already suspended our exercise membership. Sheenah has changed all her Wednesday people to Tuesday for nail appointments. Only one other person works on Tuesday and the shop will only have 3-4 people total in the shop at any given time. On the news last night they said if we have to go out, try to only go places where there are fewer than 10 people. My hair appointments are on Mondays and my guy is the only one that works on Monday, so that should be OK too. Otherwise, I am not going anywhere, else.
I’m glad you are healing. Are you still going to do the road trip? I worry that you and Louis are tempting fate if you go. I realize he hasn’t seen his daughter in a couple of years, but maybe just postpone until all this virus stuff calms down. ❤️
That Bachelor’s Mom is something else! I agree with you and J/L that she’s probably the reason both of her sons are single. She needs to stay in her lane and not dictate who her son should marry. I now think Hannah B. Dodged a bullet.

Well, we called Louis’s daughters and postponed our trip in May! I’m so glad. They were expecting it. We r hoping maybe we could go the last week of sept as Pam works for the college and isn't available all the time. We will just see what happens. Now I have to call time share Tomorrow and see how that will pan out. Also the Grand Ole Opry we have tickets for one night. What a darn mess. I feel very relieved to not have any vacation hanging over my head. I told Louis what you said Barb and I think that helped push him....thank you.

We get our taxes done tmrw and it’s my physical and bandage change day. I’m hoping my dr lets me come as my bad arm is very swollen and it makes me nervous. I can’t even put my watch on. Barb, I still jdid hair and nails but I was first appt in am so no one there either. I mean we have to do some things, right?

Mary.....NO LIFTING! As you’ve said to me...don’t make me come out there! Especially now! You need to take care of yourself. When is your dr appt?

JL...are you going to watch the bachelor music one when it starts? I might watch it for fun.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Linda and I were talking about that music show. Both of us weren’t planning to watch it until we saw some clips from the show. We both said we are going to check it out. We may get hooked on another reality show!

I’m really glad you are postponing your road trip. I heard tonight this Social distancing may go through summer. To think that Trump was briefed on this virus in December and said it was a Dem hoax and refused test kits from the WHO really shows how inept he is. We could have been ahead of this instead of way behind! Anyway, a lot of CA is on lockdown. My DIL in San Diego got a call over the weekend and was told a coworker had tested positive for the virus and everyone in the office will be working from home for at least two weeks. That means Todd too because it’s a domino affect! Tomorrow is Todd’s birthday, but they won’t be going out.
I hope you get to have your bandage changed. Are you and Louis feeling better?

sacBarb said...

Chad convinced me to cancel my hair and nail appointments. He said if we can’t go out, no one will see me anyway, so I don’t need to look good. LOL Sheenah (nails) and Steven (hair) are both OK with that and may even shut down their shops. Both of them are over 60, so they are in the target group.
