Blonde Goes Ice Fishing

by Dianne

A blonde decided she needed something new and different for a winter hobby. She went to the bookstore and bought every book she could find on ice fishing.

For weeks she read and studied, hoping to become an expert in the field. Finally she decided she knew enough and out she went for her first ice fishing trip. She carefully gathered up and packed all the tools and equipment needed for the excursion. Each piece of equipment had its own special place in her kit.

When she got to the ice, she found a quiet little area, placed her padded stool and carefully laid out her tools.

Just as she was about to make her first cut into the ice, a booming voice from the sky bellowed, “There are no fish under the ice!!”

Startled, the blonde grabbed up all her belongings, moved further along the ice, poured some hot chocolate from her thermos, and started to cut a new hole.

Again the voice from above bellowed, “There are no fish under the ice!!”

Amazed, the blonde was not quite sure what to do as this certainly was not covered in any of her books. She packed up her gear and moved to the far side of the ice. Once there, she stopped for a few moments to regain her calm. Then she was extremely careful to set everything up perfectly–tools in the right place, chair positioned just so. Just as she was about to cut this new hole, the voice came again.

“There are no fish under the ice!!”

Petrified, the blonde looked skyward and asked, “Is that You, Lord?”

The voice boomed back, “NO THIS IS THE MANAGER OF THE SKATING RINK!”

Mary I see you up there. Thanks for socially distancing. LOL

That was really nice of your neighbor to come over and till your garden area. I had to have a neighbor come over and deal with replacing some leaking pipes under my house. He is a plumber by trade so I had to pay with more than a 6 pack but it was still an extremely good deal. Fortunately, we can just walk under my house through a door on the back side of the house. I have a dirt floor basement and the leaking pipe was creating quite a puddle down there. It was the pipe running between the bathtub, bathroom sink, kitchen sink and connected to the main pipe. A lot of water goes through that pipe and it was 70 years old. At least there's nothing down there so nothing can get ruined by the water, not like the catastrophes you've had in your basement.

I'm rather surprised but glad that Jim went to the doctor. Will he follow up with the neurologist?

Barb I pretty much only watch Colbert late at night. I have thought to myself how much I am enjoying the interviews that are taking place now from the everyone's homes. The whole interview always feels so much more casual and revealing. The usual ones in front of an audience are a bit stiffer I feel and there is a certain amount of the quest feeling they are "on". I wish they could continue with a certain amount of at home interviews even when things get back to normal.

It looks like another warm day here today. The guy who worked on my drain pipes yesterday lives across the street and the houses on that side have built in basements and they have turned theird into a little apartment. Currently, they have a young man there named Brit who has a big orange kitty named Hobbs who he sometimes has out on a leash so Hobbs can lay in the grass in the sunshine. A couple of days ago I saw Brit walk by wearing an open top pet carrier which was strapped around his chest and Hobbs was sitting in it with his head out enjoying the scenery. I think I've seen ads for that kind of carrier being used to strap to a car seat so a little Yorkie type dog could sit in it.

Dianne You haven't been here in a while. Do I have to come looking for you?

I miss going out for dinner with my friends. I am going to go to Kathy's on Saturday for dinner again. She and her husband don't go anywhere except grocery shopping and I can have dinner at their large table and still stay away from them. Jane will be coming by today to get my People magazine and we will visit for a while outside. She spends a lot of time at her son's house and he's out and about with his flooring business (he just flew to Texas recently for training on a new type of flooring) and his wife is a nurse who is currently at a Covid-19 testing station. Because of that, I feel Jane has been exposed to a lot more possible infections so I am still keeping distance from her. I really don't want to end up in the hospital on a ventilator.

Justlin, Jim is definitely going to follow up! I think he is getting scared. He had a bad day Monday with all the heat & humidity. It didn't stop him from going to the Casino on Tues & Today! He has to wear a mask in there and no smoking. His buddy drove him up today.
The house I grew up in had what they called a "Michigan Cellar). It was kind of half ass cemented. My Mom had her old roller washing machine down there. I am glad you have help close by and there wasn't much damage. When I notice a leak somewhere in the basement Jim usually just shrugs his shoulders. He assumes it's just a tiny leak and puts a pail under it. I have put my foot down now and call the plumber! Men! LOL!

From what I gather, Michigan is the only state not allowing us to go to the Salon! Probably a pay back from the Barbers who refused to shut down. A large group pulled a "hair cut-a-thon on the Capital lawn. May have pissed her off lol! Oh well. Such is life and this too shall pass! I'll just keep wearing my cap/hats to hide my grays.

Mary We still don't have hair or nail salons open. I still have remnants of acrylic nails on three of my fingers on my left hand. My hair is too long to be short and too short to be long. Ugh!

I basically live at the foot of a mountain and my house faces it. From the front, I have to go up a couple of steps to get to the sidewalk but in the back, it appears like my house is two stories because the ground slopes downhill from front to back. In the back is where the door is to go under the house and I can walk around under there easily. Some people built in their basements so they truly have two levels to their houses. I don't need more space than I have and I guess I am happy to not have to climb stairs except for when I go down into the backyard from the back deck.

JustLin. You painted a cute picture of your house. Sounds like a beautiful area.
From the road, our house looks like part is built into the ground because it has a walk out basement. The house looks bigger than it is. We rarely use the basement and the lower garage is too small to store a car in it. That is why we built a 2 1/2 car garage across from the house. Jim keeps a an old truck he rarely uses, on his side and keeps his good car outside. I use my side for my Jeep :)

Heading to bed.

Dianne and Barb, where are you????

I’m here. I’m such a busy bee....NOT! I recd your nudge JL...thanks for doing that.

Mary, where is the casino? It obviously must be a different state. Surely you wouldn’t be allowed to go to casino and not a beauty shop. Our casinos aren’t open yet. I’m really glad our hair and nails finally opened. I hope Jim follows up on the dr. Did he make apt yet? Sometimes we just need to be scared to do something. How do you and JL know when there’s a leak in your basement since you don’t go in there? I don’t like to even talk about water leaks. Creeps me out. Lol. I’m really enjoying Alexa. She even can turn on my fan by my bed! We got a new next thermostat that Louis has been trying to get working with her too ...all day.

JL...we had to go to Costco tonight to pick up my new glasses and ended up ordering Chinese and picking it up. Yum....it was so good. We haven’t had it for a long time. I ventured out to a restaurant yesterday. Emilee came over and I called Olive Garden to see what their policy was with serving, etc. we had to call ahead and three tables in a room spaced far apart. Paper menus and had to ask for the pepper. We wore masks to table, put credit card in machine ourselves. I felt ok with whole thing. It was so nice to be waited on and not cook. We got two meals to go for $5 each and I took them home and froze them. Tmrw we pick up groceries. Oh yes, I had a Dermo appt today today. I think. We are going to maybe go meet my great niece tmrw. My niece,, Joanna, invited just us to come over. We will wear masks and get to see her. She’s a week old now. It’s nice you can go to your friends house for dinner. Your house sounds nice. I got to virtually see some of Mary’s spread one day. It looks so nice and in the country. I showed her my dining room and Louis. Lol.

Barb....watch it JL will be nudging you. She actually should have with me today to make it fair.

Dianne, thanks for the nudge. I have not been doing much so I don’t know why I have been MIA. Something happened on Monday to the freezer part of my fridge and food started thawing. I looked for repair places and many don’t work on Samsung. Not good to hear. The first place had an appointment available on June 12. I was shocked ‘cause I didn’t want to wait that long, but I made the appointment anyway. I called others and the soonest I could get was yesterday, so I canceled the June 12. Chad got the book out and started playing with the controls and by Wed. Night it was working again, so I cancelled the appointment for Friday. I explained to the woman that it seemed to work itself out so I didn’t want to waste their time or spend $125 for a service call, but if the fix isn’t permanent, I’ll be calling back. She was very nice about it. Now I pray it doesn’t happen again. The fridge is less than 7 years old!

JL, How nice to be able to have dinner with your friends again. Chad made lemon chicken on Thursday night and we had enough for Friday, too. He went to Boudin’s to get some sour dough bread to make garlic bread, We had corn on the cob and salad, too. He got 10 ears of corn so we have lots leftover.
I thought about getting a leash for my cats after I saw someone at the Vet’s with their two cats on a leash, but they are so good about not rushing toward the door when I open it, I am afraid they may start to try going out when we open the door. Now they will stay back and just look out. If they like outdoors, they may want to be out a lot. I keep all the blinds up about 2-3 inches and the patio door vertical blinds open during the day so they can look out. I’m hoping that’s enough outside for them. 😸

Mary, our casinos are just opening up. People are really happy about it. Lynn’s daughter works in a casino in Washington and she told me they take temps of everyone going in and they have turned off machines to comply with social distancing. Lynn is glad her daughter doesn’t work out on the floor, but in the back with fewer people. Our hair salons have opened with a lot of restrictions, but nail places are still closed. Sheenah owns the shop I go to and has 4 hairdressers in addition to her nail station. So they are doing hair, but Sheenah isn’t working yet. The hair salon I go to, isn’t open yet. I’m waiting to see how they are adhering to the restrictions before I make an appointment. My guy retired but he referred me to another hairdresser in that shop. He is doing some of his clients at their homes, but I don’t want to do that. I don’t know any of those people and I’m not sure I want to risk it.

Dianne. The Casinos that are open are all run by the Indian Tribes. Jim & his friend went again today. It takes a lot out of Jim. He won $1,800, so that made him feel better :) . His Dr appmt is not for a couple of weeks.

SacBarb, Are your Casinos run by Indians? I have a hair appoint. for next Monday hooray!! I don't worry about it. My hair dresser was very diligent before all the havoc. She even has a phone sanitizer. She had me put my phone in it. I have one now. It's called "phone soap". She always wipes down everything after each client. She has her own private enclosed station.

I got Zoie's apptm wrong. She doesn't go until July 6. Oh well. She doesn't know the difference lol!

Mary, yes our casinos are on tribal land and run by the tribe. I’m mot much of a gambler, so I only go when we have visitors that want to go. I prefer to spend my money on shows. If I would ever win like Jim when I gamble, I might like it more. $1800 is a nice haul. How does Zoie like her new ramp? Is she using it?
