Get Real People!

i have come to the conclusion
that people are "spoiled"
if something does not go their way,
they stamp their feet, extend their
fists in the air, and pout!

what does it matter if the color
of your sheets, don't match perfectly
to your bedspread, or your car mats
don't match your car seats, such trivial
things in life, these are, yet it can
set someone off on a tangent

I had someone pull a tantrum yesterday
because i could not seat them together on
a plane, he wanted to change flights because
of this, however each flight he picked, there
were no two seats together, instead of
just being grateful, that he was able to
even afford a flight, he threw a fit, because
of seats!!

i surely don't get this, i was dumbfounded
with his actions, and that is what makes
me think, are some that spoiled? do some
just want it all? is it the money they have
that makes them the way their are?

i do think people have forgotten, they have
forgotten their roots, and where they came
from, and what brought them to where they
are today

this times are hard enough, most of us
struggle daily, just to get thru a day
perhaps that is what keeps us grounded
the struggle keeps us real!

shame on anyone who has forgotten, shame
on anyone who has their priorities in all the
wrong order!

i am glad i am me, i know the difference,
it humbles me and makes me proud to
me who i am

i have not forgotten~~

Good Blog Carol. I am happy I am not in the work force today. I live a sheltered life and don't have to deal with this kind of behaviour. I am like you. I try to remain as polite to strangers as I possibly can. My mother taught me to be that way and I don't think I will change either.

Carol - Yes I think there are a lot of spoiled people out there today. Most come from the "Me" generation where they have been the centre of attention all their lives. There aren't as many who are from the "speak when you are spoken to" and "children should be seen and not heard" generation. That's what it was like when I was growing up.

Yesterday I spent most of my day tip toeing around letting my visitor sleep. I thought I heard her up in the morning but I guess she was just turning over. I stayed out of this downstairs level where my computer is and kept my "babies" upstairs and quiet. She didn't get up until four in the afternoon so it was a weird day for us. She had a good case of "jet lag". I am going to be quiet today until 9:00 and then if we wake her up I am not going to feel badly about it. I have no idea what my plans are today but I will be back whenever I am able. I miss my little owls.

Oh Shirley - I just scrolled back and you made breakfast. I need energy today so I will eat well. Bacon and eggs, toast and jam, tea and a chocolate Slim Fast to go sounds awfully good to me.

Jodi - Your picture was so cute yesterday. I think you were just as mischievous then as you are now. It was great talking to you on the phone yesterday. When the call display came up "Wisconsin" I thought "Ah a sweet owl is calling me". I was right. Thanks for thinking of me.

VIG - I didn't hear from you yesterday. Are you home or not? Maybe I should call you and find out.

Carol your blog is so good today that I don't even know where to begin.

I am surrounded by poverty everywhere I go. Seventy percent of my students are on welfare.

Now my husband is unemployed for the second time and as always it is very humbling.

It would be very hard Carol for me to do your job Carol. I would love to give them a one way to ticket to my town and that would keep them quiet.

Lynn D said...

Morning Glories!

Tinka got first!!! Hope your house guest is up soon!

Jodi: How cute are you! You look so innocent and unwhore like! LOL You are a beauty for sure!

Carol: Mr. Lynn D and I were watching tv the other night and a commercial came up targeted at baby boomers and the catch phrase was the generation that vowed to never get old. Mr. Lynn D looked at me and said "Then there is the now generation who has vowed never to grow up"! Well I think that is so true.

I have noticed in the last few years that more and more people, really age does not seem to make a difference, have this attitude well I have mine so screw the rest of you! They do think that money is the answer and if they have it we should jump and pay attention.

It is really disturbing to me. I truly believe their lives are so shallow and empty that this is their crutch. I have to say I am less patient with this every year and I am not impressed.

Unfortunately I have a close friend whose husband is just like this and we have been seeing less and less of each other because of it. I just don't have the time, stomach or inclination to put up with his, look how much money I have attitude and he puts down everyone else when they are not around.

Yes they forget where they have come from. Sad but true!

iteach said...

Furtherpoint, I have families at my school that demand that we cloth and feed their children.

They are not even nice about it.

They will throw a fit, if the nurse cannot provide them with "cool" shoes or the latest "in" coat.

Not all the families are like that at my school, but there is a growing number which is alarming to me.

Carol if I were planning a flight somewhere I would certainly like to sit with the person I was travelling with. However, if there were not two seats together I would not throw a fit like this guy. What would he have done if the flight had been cancelled? Get a life buddy!

My younger sister (who turned 35 yesterday)has to have things done her way or she throws a tantrum. She is always right and you are always wrong. I tell her it must be nice to be perfect. She definately would not like to sit separately from the person she was travelling with.

East Bay J said...

Good morning,

I see that kind of behavior almost daily at my job.

I work in a clinic where we see people by appointment, but at least a couple times each day, someone will walk in with a problem and they want to be seen NOW.

Most of the time, it is not something urgent. It sometimes could be taken care of if they had called ahead. And there are always same day appts. if they call in the morning.

And most of the time, their dr. will see them, but they usually will have to wait til there is time in between patients.

Sometimes this is just not good enough. I had a middle aged man have a complete meltdown one day last week. He had a cough for 2 weeks and had not been seen for it, did not call, and had not taken anything for it.

Oh and kept up his pack a day smoking too.

I talked to his dr. and he said he would see him, but probably not for an hour, as he did not want to make his patients with appts. wait.

I thought this man was going to throw himself on the floor and scream when I told him it might be an hour. He stormed off and said he was going to member services to complain.

Sometimes, people will come back and apologize for their bad behavior.

In the big picture, not getting a seat together, and not getting to be seen by your dr. for an hour are so petty. Sometimes I'd like to point that out but I've learned it doesn't help the situation at hand.

Hopefully, the person acting badly will realize this and behave a little more civil the next time they can't get instant gratification.

Congrats on being first this morning Pinka!!

Thanx again for yummy breakfast Shirley!

Good morning Tinka, Shirley (Why didn't you knock and come in for coffee?), Birdee, Iteach (lol @ Republican), LynnD, Bebbi, EBJ!!

Carol~~Timely blog again today. As they lay Tim Russert to rest in Washington DC today, and marvel at the thousands, from Presidents to paupers, who stood in line at his wake yesterday. Why was he SO adored by SO many from all walks of life? Because, he~~who had it all~~was so very humble and devoted to the 'things' that truly matter...roots, faith, family.

Good Morning Owls!

Carol: I understand the guy being disappointed, because he can't sit with his travel companion, but I don't understand what he thought he would accomplish by getting upset with you about it. It's not like you can wave a magic wand and Poof, another seat is added next to his. :)

I started off my morning feeling like I had knots in my stomach, because I had to return 5 phone calls from people wanting appointments. The first one was the easiest, because it was someone who hasn't been here before, and I've gotten pretty good at my "not accepting new clients" speech.

The other 4 were harder, because they're already clients, but they chose not to pre-book their next appointments. I always dread those phone calls, because some clients do get upset when they find out how long they're going to have to wait.

All morning long I've been silently repeating the saying, "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." :)

Hello to everyone and have a great day!

Hey Amicus...

Bono - sadly, I knew on Monday that he was "done" - it was a given.. and, YES, I have been VERY sad!! He played against doctor's orders - and now he is having to pay!! very sad......

BUT - hey, he WON the US Open - and wasn't even 100% - the guy is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

:-)

MEK in AZ said...

Bono - EXACTLY - about Tim Russert - he was every man's man!! People need to take note of what he was about!!

Cpgem - your blog made me VERY thankful that I am NOT working anymore. The last time, Mr. MEK and I flew together - we were on Southwest and I knew - but the number we drew that there would be NO way we would be able to sit with each other - it bothered Mr. MEK for a second - but I told him to take the first seat he saw and I would go find mine - I actually ENJOYED sitting next to other people - so, is that a bad thing!! LOL

EBJ - aren't people just AMAZING when they show up at a doctor's office and DEMAND to be seen IMMEDIATELY - BUT - if THEY were the person WITH the appt and someone would come in - THEN, they bitch cuz their appt got bumped back - I would just shake my head.

I worked in orthopedics and when the doctor was on call - he would have to leave the office to go to the hospital - people would get SO mad - and i would explain it like this - If you were the person who was at the hospital with the emergency, wouldn't you want him to come straight over??!! it only calmed them for about a second..

PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

Amicus - I LOVE your "lacking of planning" - LOVE IT!!!

Carol: Great blog! I empathize with you! I have worked for the public for a long time. I first worked at a music store (Camelot Music) in our local mall. I was always amazed at how the "spirit of Christmas" meant that they would cuss you out! But it was always nice to be able to smile at them and say "Merry Christmas" and make them think about their behaviors!

I also worked at a bank. First in the town I was born in (Dixon, IL) and then here in Sterling. It was interesting that there was a difference. People in Dixon were well know for "who they were" in the small town. They would rant and rave if you asked for identification because you didn't "KNOW" them! It wasn't that way so much in Sterling and people were happy to send their driver's license in!

I think what motivates behavior like you mentioned, Carol, is fear. I think that is why people rant and rave. They feel helpless and vulnerable. They are not in control, so they lash out.

I also think that is what EBJ sees too. People don't feel well and they are scared.

Not that this is by any means an excuse for bad behavior, but it is an explanation for why they act the way they do!

I also saw how my former MIL acted towards sales people at a store. She was rude! (So much that I wanted to stand far behind her so they didn't think we were together)! Ironically, she dealt with the public all day as the non-foods manager of our local grocery store! She was treated poorly, so she treated others poorly too!

I have always been the opposite. Since I have worked for the public, I try to be overly kind to sales clerks and such to make up for the jerks in the world!

Sorry...I composed a novel again! This has always been a hot topic for me and I so understand it!

(((HUGS))) to all those in retail or who have to deal with the general public on a daily basis for their work! I know it is not an easy job (nor is the pay for what you have to deal with)!

As my mother always says, "Kill them with kindness and keep smiling!"

Carol, I am so sorry you have to deal with the public like that; you sure do see the worst of human nature in the travel business!

Looks like all of the owls who deal with the public in their jobs have similar stories!

Let's not sweat the small stuff. After all, we don't get to see Tiger again until 2009.

Now that's something to despair over! LOL!

sacBarb said...

Carol: This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I worked in Human Resources for 26 years and I constantly saw examples of what you saw yesterday. Sometimes I think people complain just to complain.

I have talked about working with politicians who are a perfect example of what you are talking about. So many feel 'entitled' to everything. One 'memorable' experience was an employee who was in a position with limited benefits. He was eligible for health insurance but not dental insurance.

He was in my office almost every day, causing a huge disturbance, because of this. He explained that he had kids who needed braces, blah, blah, blah. There was nothing I could do about it. I might add, his salary was in the six figures, so it wasn't like he was destitute.

Then, his terms of employment changed so that he became eligible for Dental insurance and I informed him immediately, both in writing and by phone, that we would start the paperwork immediately and it could be effective by the first of the current month if he signed the paperwork by the 10th.

You know what's coming...The a$$hole NEVER came in to sign the paperwork. He just wanted everyone to jump through hoops because he felt 'entitled' but apparently the insurance wasn't really that important after all.

This is only one example that finally made me decide to retire early.

MEK: I bet you have similar stories.

Lynn D said...

Just checking in quickly. I have decided to take the day off from the foodbank today. Still feeling out of sorts and decided a day at home was needed.

I don't know who that picture is but geez I think I am blogging with super models! LOL I will guess Justlin to go along with the crowd!

I have worked with the pubic for many years and have many war stories! My mantra was always "Thank God I don't live with that person"!

Will check back later taters!

MEK in AZ said...

Whabby - Is it a full moon tonight??!! :-)

I KNOW - I am devastated about Tiger - BUT - on Monday, when he said "I'm DONE" - I think he knew right then and there that he was in fact DONE!!!

I just read the story - heck, he even has a fracture in there - and opted to NOT repair the ACL in the last surgery - SO- they did a "patch" - and obviously - it didn't work!!

SacBarb - oh man - I could share some stories - BUT - I really don't want to relive all that crap!! LOL

I'm sure you understand...

DISCLAIMER -

I picked Just Lin cuz Bono did - I really had NO idea!!

Good Morning Owls!

Ugh, working with the public. Some of you may know that I work for an au pair agency. Boy, do I ever see the people who think they are entitled! It amazes me that people will treat the person who cares for their child like dirt, but expect...no demand....respect and flexiility. On a daily basis I am dealing with families that do not understand why their au pair is unhappy. They give her food and a place to sleep and they pay her...what on earth could be wrong? Well, let's start with the fact that these au pairs are only paid $157 a week for up to 45 hours of work, in which many times the family will push to 50-60 hours of work when they can. They expect her to clean their house, cook their meals and watch their spoiled brats. They don't want to give her a specific schedule, so that she might have a chance of making a life for herself away from them. And then when she mentions that she is homesick because nobody ever talks to her about HER life, or HER experiences, they want her to leave immediately...throwing her out on the street like an unneeded object.

Can you tell I have an opinion on this?

I miss the days when people cared about others feelings. They knew their neighbors and helped each other. If someone on the street needed help finding a place, they took them there instead of pointing.

OK, I can feel myself getting angry about this... I beter go get some breakfast.

iteach~ I consider those fighting words! My husband would never use that sort of word to describe me. ;0)

sacBarb said...

Hi Jennifer: I'm afraid I don't agree with your 'fear' theory all the time. Sometimes it's just plain arrogance that makes people act like that.

Amicus: I had a sign in my office with that 'lack of planning' sentiment, but the people who needed to read it, never did! I loved it though. I also had a "Don't kill the messenger" sign. I left both for my replacement.

Carol I agree that too many people feel entitled. It's that attitude by some that can taint us all as "Ugly Americans".

I think it's dealing with the public that turned Tina into a crackwhore! LOL
EBJ The same thing happens at animal hospitals. Clients claim their animal has an emergency and must be seen pronto then you discover it's had the symptoms for a week or two. It's only now an emergency because it's convenient for the owner to bring the animal in.

I'm waiting for Tina to guess the senior pic.

What does it resolve to throw bratty tantrums and get all bent out of shape? I much prefer a tranquil and happy lifestyle. I don't understand people who spend their lives allowing their tempers to boil over trival things. Geez, how can your hrealth or life be happy that way... OMG, I can soooo relate to this topic today! My stepdaughter, the child of my husband's ex-wife's ex-husband (stay with me now - he adopted her while married to his ex-wife), is here visiting with her 4 year old son. We LOVE the limited time we get with our grandson but even my husband recognizes how spoiled and self-centered his 26-year-old daughter is.

She is out here visiting us -- her second visit in the 10 years we've been married. When we lived in Texas, she lived less than 100 miles away but she only came to see us one time, to see a boy. We paid her way out here before learning she really came to see two young men she met via the internet. We should have known but thought maybe she changed. Ummmm, leopard + spots = don't change.

Because my rant ended up being so long, I decided to put it on my myspace blog but the site is being hinky. Maybe I'll get it on there later. I'll have to publish it to a preferred list since Ungrateful Daughter is one of my myspace friends and I don't want her taking Grandson out of our lives forever over this.

*sigh*
It's horrible what some ex-es will do to their children. For years, Ungrateful Daughter's mother taught her that my husband was a deadbeat (in spite of receiving $800/month in child support) and was unworthy of his daughter's love and attention. We live with the fallout from that.

The more time I spend with my relatives, the better I like my dogs, LOL!

Congratulations Tink on being #1, and hope you're enjoying you visitor.

Waving Hi to everyone that flew in before me.

Been a little on the MIA side today, just taking care of some 'stuff', and I use that term loosely. At least I got a mani/pedi yesterday so my toes look good walking through all the shizzle.

Carol~ It's such a shame that there are so many people in the world that think everyone owes them something and treat others as if we should be grateful just to be in their presence. I don't find this to be necessarily a characteristic with people of wealth, but also 'regular' people who just have an attitude problem. This type of narcissistic person was never taught the word 'No', or for that matter, that this ole world doesn't revolve around them. It really makes me want to tell someone like this to just look at the newspaper headlines, do you see your name anywhere? So, we move on with our mouths closed and feel sorry for them. I firmly believe, that the majority of this attitude problem is from the lack of proper parenting. This applies very much to people that just won't let things go, after it has been demonstrated that a requested situation, or thing, just isn't going to happen. There is no sense of entitlement and certainly no need for snide remarks, or to keep pushing someone against the wall. Again, Carol, I'm sorry your day included someone like this.

My guess for the very beautiful graduating Owlette is non other than , Just_Lin. You are gorgeous, Sweet Lady.

Sorry for the novel, but I just couldn't stop. Bad manners and self-centeredness are my biggest pet peeves, right up there with disrespectful children.

bbl,
but will leave my next novel at home.

Carol~ how many stories do you want? :|

We moved a passenger from the seats he and his wife had, to two other seats TOGETHER on the other side of business class. I had the pleasure of listening to him rant and rave for an hour over this. I could not tell him that the reason he was moved was because the Air Marshall needed the seat he was in. He took that as me refusing to tell him and was going to sue us. He was also going to talk to his Senator. I wanted him to so badly....he would have felt like such a fool! (which he was) This is why i get a lot of embroidering and cross-stitching done...that's what I do while these people rant...it keeps me sane and from taking it personally~

Tina~in_ut said...

Carol.....i don't think this has anything to do with money~ I know fabulous people with tons of money, some money and no money....and visa versa~ I don't know where this entitlement attitude came from, but it is so ugly~ If every person in the world thought of others before themselves ALWAYS, this world would be so much different and better for all~ (i think I'm getting worked up!)

Oh My! I just watched the coverage of Tim Russert on MSNBC. Wow, they did a terrific job. He must have been a great friend, father, husband, son!

I loved Maria Shiver's (sp) tribute, she was fantastic...

And his son, gosh so composed for a young man. He will go far!

Today, with this Tribute, it has put a lot of things in perspective..

Life is just so short, and one never knows. We must embrace what we have. We must be gratful!

Tina:
I totally understand, I get worked up as well. "Spoiled" people, they just don't get it!

What a shame!

Your novel was perfect! Do you have another? :O)

Hi Everyone!

Just a quick fly by to put in my vote too for my sweet beautiful friend, Just_Lin. The Pride of Southern California!

I too want to say just how gorgeous all of the Senior pictures have been!!!

Carol~ very good blog today! I just can't believe how very rude some people can be, especially when they are on the phone and can't actually "see" you face to face!

I too was in the "customer service" industry for many years, and I think I have heard it all. And of course they rant the most to the first person they speak to (the receptionist) who can't really do anything at all except try to listen and then re-direct the call! I am so glad not to be in that position any more!

Now, though, I am the one bitchin and complaining!!!

I try hard though to be polite and explain my problem. But, there have been times when I have gotten nothing but rudeness from these so called customer reps, so I have been known to lose my temper! Thank goodness that doesn't happen very often!

I just finished watching the Memorial for Tim Russert on MSNBC. How lovely, touching and yes, funny too. His son, Luke was amazing in his beautiful tribute to his father. I sure found myself dabbing at the tears for most of it.

Till later my lovelies,
Peace and Love, DJ

night.owls.sb said...

And the best part, I still can't get him seat together! So I am worried.
I have to e-mail my sales rep to see if she can open up two seats together, if she can't. I am surely in trouble! He will blame me, even tho he knew when booked...

Urggg....

night.owls.sb said...

I will be back later...

Hope everyone had a good day!!

:O)

My favorite passenger EVER:

He works for a Cincinnati TV station and even had a radio show here in SLC. He flew to London and upon arrival, found that his father had died. He called to get on the flight the next day to go back home. Before he told us the reason for his immediate return, the agent told him the amount that he would have to pay to change his ticket.....it came to about $1600. He was furious.....really furious and told the agent the reason he had to fly home. The agent called me for help and I advised her that in bereavement situations, we can adjust the fare he already purchased to the bereavement fare and the only amount we would need to collect would be $325. He was enraged and asked to talk to me! I spent two hours on the phone with this ugly person being told that I was inhuman and had no compassion for his situation and that we were taking advantage of him and that he was going to go to the media with the way "he was being treated." (I wanted to go to the media with the way I was being treated!) Even after I resolved his problem for him, he continued to be ugly! He told me that he hoped when my parents die, that something bad would happen to me and he'd find out about it and laugh. Now mind you, 3 months earlier, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and had just started chemo, so I was still a little raw. He said he believed in Karma...I sure hope so! I told a co-worker about him afterwards and she said she had heard him on the radio here and knew that a lot of people hated him because he was so arrogant. Rarely does a passenger get to me, but I will never forget this creep.....I just kept wondering what his father was thinking seeing his son act like this! If I lost a loved one, I wouldn't be spending time on the phone with an airline the way he was! carol....you got me started!

These stories remind me of a Hawaiian saying called:

Kina Ole~

Doing the right thing,
In the right way,
At the right time,
In the right place,
To the right person,
For the right reason,
With the right feeling
The First Time.

Being in the tourism industry now I have gotten the irate calls where the passengers, visitors, or just peeps that couldn't book a tour cause it was already full call in. After gettin my ass chewed for several minutes I try to explain that I would need to transfer their call as they had reached the Purchasing Department. 90% of the time they scream "That's what I want to do is purchase a ticket".....lol.

I explain, in detail that I cannot sell them a ticket as I am the Purchasing Manager, and when they start to go off the deep end again, I interrupt and tell them that if they would like to know the cost of the salt and pepper shakers on the table of our cruise ship I would be happy to give them that information, but that in order to resolve their dilemma I would need to transfer them to our reservations department. That usually shuts their pie hole or I hear the phone hang up.....lol

Tina~in_ut said...

lol....kgrl....how much is a salt shaker? I don't like pepper~ :)~

TURTLE.....great story!!! And I love the way you make them shut their pie holes!!! I also love that Hawaiian saying.....it truly says it all!!!

Okay, I have been lazy for a couple of days so here goes:
Hi tink, shirly, Carol, birdee, lynn d, iteach, EBJ, kahonagirl, tina, Mek, bono, amicus, jennifer, sacbarb, donna jean, ronniegirl, whabbear, barb in wa, outtatune (shew scrolling, writing a few names, scrolling again)...just lin, dreama, birdee...fphew...If I missed anyone I am sorry.

Shirley: thanks for the great breakfast this morning, came in handy when I came home on my morning break. :)

Carol, That was the best blog YET! I know just what you mean. It amazes me that people will act like big babies over stuff that doesn't mean anything!!

It is very sad that people can be so hurtful and not even treat other people like HUMANS, because they have to have *their* way or because someone or something upsets them.

Your blog was written so well and it was perfect. :)

..Don't sweat the small stuff...Follow the golden rule...be polite and empathetic..those things are LOST on some people. You can get a whole lot more with honey than you can with vinegar!

I am off to read other people's comments, and I hope that everyone had a great day.

Bebbilane said...

tink: I miss you too!!

iteach: That is very alarming. I don't understand that attitude. When we first moved to Louisville, my kids didn't have their winter coats because things were in storage. The school that they went to got them coats. I was SO appreciative. It made me feel so nice that people would help like that. From then on, when the kids grew out of their coats, I would give them to the school so that someone else could be helped. I couldn't imagine not being thankful. I think some people let their pride get in the way and forget just how to say thank you.

k-girl: that is a funny story!

EBJ: Oh, that smoking part just made me unbelievably amazed! There must have been a lot of tongue biting to keep from saying something!

I worked as a bookstore manager for many years. Most of the time, people who are looking for a book don't get like that but I have had a few doozies! We had one customer who was in a wheelchair and he was just angry at life. He would almost run people down in the mall. One time he threw is "frequent buyer" card at me because he was mad about something. I learned patience on that job. Patience and empathy.

Sandie said...

Carol, I'm sorry you have to deal with people like that--it can't be fun. I hope the nice people make up for the icky ones!

I feel really sorry for people who think they deserve more than others. I think they're missing so much because giving/being kind to others is so fulfilling.

The owl today is gorgeous!! I'm guessing Just_Lin because I can just tell that's her!!! Okay, not really--it's because Tina guessed her.

Bebbilane said...

Tina: Wow, that was an incredible story...and probably the worst yet. How terrible!! I always felt like people like that must hate their life because they wanted to make everyone around them miserable. That was the only way I could distance myself from it but at times, it still gets to me..if someone takes their anger, hurt or whatever out on me.

Bebbilane said...

amicus: I totally agree with you about myspace. I just got my mom on there and now I have to figure things out before I can teach her too. It really surprised me that they changed it like that.

I know, I am being a blog hog. Sorry folks, please forgive me.

Jodi said...

Ok....pass the tissues.....I had to leave in the middle of the Tim Russert Memorial Service, just when Maria Shriver had started speaking, so when I got home I went to the MSNBC page and watched his son Luke's speech. WOW....what an eloquent young man. I'm not sure that I could have been that composed at my Mom's funeral. Tom Brokaw really touched my heart, as did his 7th grade teacher. I think I feel the same as so many other people. That we have truly lost someone special.....he was a voice of reason during so many uncertain times....especially during the election process. I will truly miss him and his dry erase boards on election night this year.

Bebbilane said...

jodi and sandie: Hi, missed you on the hello's.

Jodi: I just can't watch it, I would be a blubbering idiot. I am going to try and catch Tim's sons speech on youtube. It is so sad.

Lynn D said...

Hi Gang!

Can I just say "The customer is always right" is the most moronic statement ever!

This was shoved down my throat when I was a customer service manager and as I read your stories today it really triggers one of my biggest pet peeves.

The customer is not always right and the one proclaiming it the loudest more than likely does not know their ass from their elbow! More than likely they are so sexually frustrated because no one wants to get near them with the personality defects that shine through!

Ok I am done. I read your horror stories and it brought on flashbacks. I am claiming Post Traumatic Stress Disorder!

Bebbilane said...

Sandie, maybe we have the same sister! ;)

Amicus said...

Birdee and Bebbi: Thanks! Venting about it helped. :)

I have codes added to my page to customize the navigation bar and hide the clutter above it, but the changes MySpace made to their codes today caused the codes I'm using to be incompatible. That's why I was frustrated. I'll figure out how to fix it this weekend when I'm not so tired. :)

Good WEdnesday EVE!!

Well - I KNEW there would be NOTHING at this place for me to eat today!! YIKES....... menu was in spanish on a black board and even after the gal explained all the meal choices to us - I still have NO idea what the hell they were..........

SO - I said - "I'm sorry, but I don't believe there is anything that I would like" and she said (in the most snotty voice) - I'll bring YOU a salad........

SO - everyone's meal came and my salad - WELL, this salad was the kind that you don't even recognize - it actually had weeds in it - (these places down here are SO excited cuz they grow their own!!) - SO - I ate a few carrot chunks and the thin slice of watermellon -

this bowl of weeds was 10 bucks.. I NEVER complained - the waitress never asked any of us if "everything was alright" - so actually took my bowl away - didn't even ask me if I was done - and we STILL left her a 20 percent tip!!!!!

SO - taking my mom to meet her friends at this uppity place made me MISS Tim Russert's memorial service......

and THAT is why i am bummed today!!

Hope everyone had a WAY better day than I did.......

:-)

So - I'll just get out my "cranky pants" - LOL

Lynn: LOL! Amen from me too! When I first opened, I tried abiding by that philosophy, but I learned how quickly it can lead to burnout. I was allowing my clients to run my business instead of me. I had to grow a backbone, set boundaries, and stick to them. :)

Jodi: Thanks for the wing wave! :)

"I want to eat you?" I said WHAT and he repeated it.. I slammed the phone down - he called back - I hung up....

SO - I went crying (Yes, heck, i was only 20 years old) into the manager's office and told her what happened and she said - "Oh, honey, you should have told him if he was hungry, he should go to McDonald's!"

and that was that - she didn't have any sympathy for me at all - told me I need to "buck up" if I was going to answer phones!!
