Dianne Thanks for the gentle nudge last night. I didn't think it had been too long since I posted but I guess it was a little longer than I thought. I haven't been doing much to write about except for fretting about this holiday and the random explosions that the jerk on the street below me keeps setting off at random times. My dog was enjoying her 9th birthday yesterday until that person set off an M80 or other illegal loud explosive devise. I will have to put my dog on tranquilizers today. I really hate this holiday. This jerk will be setting off explosives at random times for weeks now. My city is one of only two that allow legal fireworks and I wish they wouldn't. It only provides cover for the jerks with the illegal ones.

Now that I'm done with my rant, it sounds like you will have a nice holiday. I will be hunkering down and staying inside. I think I will make some potato salad to go with the ribs I will be cooking in the oven. I usually get baby back ribs and do a dry rub on them but this time I bought Bubba's Ribs which have a sauce on them, are quickly heated up in oven or microwave, and have had the bones removed. Bubba was a pro football player and I remember him showing his ribs on Shark Tank. Everybody loved the ribs so I will give you my report after I eat them.

Mary Wow! Jim won $1,000 at the local casino and didn't even have to pay air fare to do it. That's pretty darn good. That was a great picture of him, by the way. He looks happy and healthy.

What are you cooking for dinner today? Anything special? Everything you make sounds so delicious. We have a small tortilla factory and taqueria here in town, El Grano De Oro, that makes the best burritos. They don't have a huge menu but they are excellent at what they do make. I really like their chicken enchilada plate. It's one of those little places where you have to go early before they run out of food and close. This is bringing to mind a place we would go sometimes when I was a teenager in southern California. We would go to this house in the neighboring city and get shredded beef tacos being sold out of the kitchen window. LOL They were really good. I wonder if they had a permit to do that.

Dianne2 I forgot to mention Tammy and James' engagement. That is exciting news. So sorry that James got laid off. That's really disappointing. I hope he finds another job soon. Will this development delay wedding plans?

Barb We are all waiting to hear from you. How is the smoke in your area now? our skies are looking better now that we've had some breezy days to push the smoke away. To have these fires so soon in the summer is not a good omen. The fire hazard is one more reason I don't like this holiday. It's breezy and overcast right now.

I loved your bat video. Years ago when my husband and I would stay at Lake Pillsbury with his sister's family, we would sometimes take a quiet boat ride up into some of the little off-shoots of the lake at dusk and bats would fly over our heads. It was cool.

Hi there! Happy 4th of July!

Justlin, after your glowing compliment on my cooking, I am embarrassed to say we are having hot dogs lol! I already made roasted chicken, steak & taters, and tacos the last 3 days. Today I am not in the mood! Too hot! That food-out-the-window sounds great lol!
Jim is having a bad day today, not related to his heart. Lets just say it is the opposite of the back-yard-trots lol! Poor baby.

Barb, We have bats out here too. I like to watch them come out and dive for 'skeeters at dusk. I hear there have been a few cases of rabid bats here in Michigan.

Dianne, How is the retirement guy doing? I hated the first year Jim retired. He was a mess. He loved working, but his job was moved to another part of the state. He already had 36 1/2 years in! It took all of a year to get him settle! Now, he is waaaay too settled lol!
Now if he can just poop lol!!!!!!

Happy day after the 4th. Went to lunch with our friends and then to visit my brother yesterday. It was hot and didn’t feel like sitting out in the heat. I’m already getting tired of the heat. We picked up KFC for dinner. We have a lot of fires going on and not much rain. A lot of homes are being lost. I think on the news tonight it said like 13 fires going.

Mary, sometimes I like a good hot dog. We get them from Sonic from time to time. I hope Jim’s problem is better today. That’s a miserable feeling for sure! We don’t have bats that I’ve seen here. Kind of creeps me out. LOUIS is doing good. He’s quite relieved to not be teaching part time in the fall. He has settled into it very quickly. My dad and mom retired from Texaco many years ago. They had a buyout at 55 with full benefits. My mom was thrilled and fell right into it. My dad had a very hard time adjusting. He wasn’t ready to not work there anymore.

JL, did you make your potato salad? How were the ribs? Good? I’ve never made ribs. I feel so bad for Ursula seeing her picture on fb today. How did last night go for her? I really haven’t heard any fireworks around this neighborhood at all this year. No, Tammy’s wedding is still a go. It’s not a big wedding but it still runs into dollars. I hope James is job hunting this week. I’m assuming he is but I don’t like to ask every day.

Our ice maker has broken and the place told us that Samsung has ice maker problems and that we need to replace the refrig with another brand. Hello....it’s three years old. LOUIS called where we bought it and we have two years left on warranty ..thank goodness. They will call hopefully tomorrow to figure out a solution.

That’s about it. Barb, we sure miss your posts. Hope you’ll be dropping back in.

Dianne I did make potato salad and it was quite good, if I do say so myself. I made a lot so gave half of it to the young couple across the street. Bubba's ribs were very tasty, too, and couldn't be easier to heat up. I got the Honey Barbecue ones. I only ate half of them and will have the rest tonight, probably with a baked potato and corn on the cob.

It sounded like a war zone around here for the 4th. The tranquilizer helped a little bit to ease things for the dog but it didn't really hit her until the next morning so that seemed pretty inadequate. I was talking to one of my dog walker people today about a different drug to use and I think I will try that next year.

That's not good news about your Samsung refrigerator. I've never had a fridge that makes ice; I do it the old fashioned way. My Samsung Smart TV works great, though.

Last night I was out in the front yard with the dog so she could do her last pee of the night and a coyote went running by in the middle of the street. I think Ursula and I were both dumbfounded.

I settled into retirement very easily. I guess I'm just naturally lazy.

Mary I like a good hot dog once in a blue moon but I don't buy them just for myself. They seem to taste better at outdoor events for some reason. I must admit I do like the Kraut Dogs at Der Weinerschnitzel.

Today I was at the gross-ry store to pick up a couple of things and I accidentally knocked over a bottle of olive oil that then broke on the floor. Oops! For some reason, they had a certain brand displayed right under the fresh tomatoes. I think my sleeve caught the top of one as I grabbed a tomato.

I hope Jim is feeling better. He should probably be drinking more water, especially when the weather is warm.

Barb I hope you'll be back here soon. We miss you.

Hi....It’s really hot here. It was 103 today ...too damn hot for colorado and for me! It’s not like I was outside but car is sure hit to get into when sitting somewhere. Had lunch with Barb and then went to Starbucks for a drink and visit. Louis went to Andy and Wendy’s house for an annual 4th party. I didn’t want to go as it’s kind of boring to me with all their friends. I just said I had already made plans. I’m a part pooper.

JL, you are quite the cook for yourself. I admire how you make these nice dinners. I would never be that ambitious. Your bbq dinner sounds good. Best Buy called today and they say Samsung has an updated part to fix ice makers that they will order so it will be another week at least. Louis went to 7-11 tonight to get a bag of ice and they had run out. They sold him two huge cups for 26 cents each...that will last us until tomorrow. How’s Ursela doing now? Still having fireworks around? I think hot dogs taste better out too. My mom used to boil them for our dinner..gross!

Mary, what did you do today? Is it still hot there too? I guess no cancellations for your knee or you would have told us. Darn it. You were so sweet to send the card. Thank you. I sure wish we could all have lunch one day but I think half way would be far for all although, I think Denver would be a good half way between California and Michigan. Any more news on Karina moving?

Barb, hope you are all rested up and ready to post with us again soon.

Hello Everyone. Sorry I've been MIA. Chad and I have been doing stuff around the house and also some bee-boppn' around town. In addition to the Bat Walk, we went to see Deadpool in 3-D at the IMAX theater. The movie was good, but I'm not crazy about 3-D. I took some Tylenol before we went, because it has given me a headache in the past. Chad really wanted to see it in 3-D, so I just went with it. Chad also likes to shoot pictures, so we went to the Zoo and some parks. He got some really nice pictures there and at the reunion, too. The trip to Santa Maria was nice and the reunion went well. No drama. We stayed at the Santa Maria Inn, which is 100 years old this year. I love the old decor of the place. It has a bar next to the lobby and when I was first married, we rented a charming little one bedroom house right across the street from the outside door to the bar. We never went there, though, because we were only 18 & 19, but there was a lot of activity in and out that door. The house in now an attorney's office.

Chad has been cooking big dinners and I am afraid to get on the scale. He left last night, so I'm back to my regular schedule. I am thinking of starting WW because I think I may be able to stick with it better.

Mary, I love a good hot dog every once in a while, but like J/L, I think they are better at events, like a ball game. Occasionally, when I go to Costco, I'll get one there. They are really good and $1.50 gets you a dog and a drink.

J/L, Maybe you need to give Ursula the tranquilizer earlier so it can take affect by the time the noise starts. I remember when we had our cocker spaniel the first time we gave him the drug it was supposed to take affect in an hour, but it didn't work until after most of the fireworks were over. After that, we would give it to him early in the afternoon and he was very mellow by dark. This year, my cats didn't seem to be bothered by the noise at all.

Dianne, Your trip sounds like so much fun. I have wanted to go to Branson to see some of the shows. Maybe someday it will happen. Are Tammy's kids happy about her engagement? How is Kayla doing?

I know it's not funny, but visions of "I Love Lucy" have been dancing in my head since you posted
the "leak!" Stay calm, breath!! Love yah!

Update on the nasty neighbors: Their dogs have been using my yard and other neighbors' yards for a bathroom. I know it is their dogs, although I've never seen them do it. I filed a complaint with the county about the dogs being off leash in their front yard. Animal Control came out and told them they need to keep the dogs in their yard unless they are on a leash. Animal Control called me and told me that as long as the dogs are on their own property, it is not a crime. Yesterday, my neighbor Jim (the good one) was outside and the boxer was on my lawn, pooping. He took a picture and texted it to me and I filed another report with the picture attached. I haven't heard anything from them yet.

Chad has gone home and I already miss him. He is so helpful when he is here. My cousins are having a reunion, of sorts, at my Uncle Mike's house, the first weekend in August. I am considering going and taking Chad with me. He can help me on the long flight and while I am there, plus he can meet relatives he didn't even know he has. I have air miles I can use, so the cost will be minimal. Checking flights I have learned that neither American Airlines nor Southwest has a direct flight to Long Island, however Southwest flights only have one stop, whereas American has two or three and it takes much longer to get there! If I go, it will definitely be on a Southwest flight.

Hello, well as you all know I’ve dealing with a home flood. Restoration came shortly after this on Sunday and we have eight fans with like tents next to them with them blowing like a jet engine. We have to replace the drywall in laundry room and garage, new laundry floor, possible kitchen floor replacement (wood floor), some carpet in basement. It’s a horrible mess. I couldn’t get Ins to call me yesterday and finally did this am. Restoration feels we need to go to hotel because of terrible noise. We will stay since didn't hear until
Today. Got hold of roto-rooter and they were here within 45 min at 3:30 on a Sunday. He fixed the washer and was here for a long time and cleaned up water. They charged $379 for all the work. We didn’t feel that was too bad on a Sunday. We were desperate anyway. LOUIS has been here every day dealing with all the people. He wasn’t home when this flood happened and I didn’t know how to turn off the water downstairs. I ran next door to a person I don’t know barefoot in 100 degree weather and thank the Lord he was home and came over and then couldn’t find the shut off. I at least knew where it was to tell him. It went for about 15 min. Poor guy..I was sobbing sitting on a stool in a flood of water. Anyway, that was my weekend.

Barb, glad to see you back. Good thing your neighbor got a picture of that dog. Have you heard back from animal control yet? Dang, that would make me very mad. It sounds like it would be a fun trip back East with Chad. It’s mice he was able to stay with you for awhile and help, you and also keep you company. I’m a little irritated with my son right now. Oh well, it will pass yes, Tammy’s kids are happy about her upcoming wedding. They like James. Kayla is still in beauty school and will graduate in the fall. So far so good. I’m still not nuts about her choices but she’s driving again and I hope she learned a good lesson. She moved into a townhouse last weekend that her dad and Wendy purchased. Once she’s working she will pay them rent. She’s getting a roommate too. Hopefully it will work out. Thanks for asking

Mary, if you could have seen me Sunday. I moved the washer and dryer to get the handle that broke off thinking I could screw it back on and it was behind dryer. I did have a vision of getting stuck back there. I don’t know how I moved them and then literally ran....yes ran next door with my feet burning like shit! I don’t think I’ve run in years. It will eventually seem humorous to me but not yet! Your vision was right on though I simply didn’t know what to do.

JL, hi...we get a hot dog and drink for $1.50 at Costco but I see they are no longer selling the polish dog. News said they were trying to get healthier but thank goodness they are keeping the hot dog deal. Whew.

I had a nice lunch today with my childhood friend. We meet every couple of months. She lives about two hours away so we meet in the middle. I don’t like coming home to the mess and poor LOUIS is getting cabin fever waiting for people.

Dianne, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that water stuff. I called a washer repair place two weeks ago because the fabric softener dispenser wasn't dispensing and the spin cycle wasn't spinning on the Perm Press setting. They sent a 12 year old boy to fix it, at least he looked 12 years old. He spoke with a very thick Russian accent and I could hardly understand him. He was here about 2 1/2 hours and took it all apart and then told me I was just using too much softener. I know I am NOT using too much, because I barely put any in it. He also couldn't fix the spin cycle, so I'm just washing everything on the Normal cycle. It spins just fine. I argued with him about the dispenser and he only charged me $65 since he couldn't fix either thing. I have a front loader washer, so I can't really put the softener in manually, which is a bummer. I don't put my tops in the dryer, so that means I have to iron them. I hate to iron!
