Negative People

by Dianne

A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband..  She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded:

"Rome?  Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome .  So, how are you getting there?"

"We're taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"

"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser. " That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"

"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome 's  Tiber River called Teste."

"Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump."

"We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."

"That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant.
Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."

A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome .

"It was wonderful," explained the woman, "not only were we on time in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot..  And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!"

"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope."

"Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me.

Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me.."

"Oh, really! What'd he say?"

He said: "Who fucked up your hair?"

Dianne Good one! LOL I have a hair appointment tomorrow so I hope she doesn't "F" it up. LOL I'm going a week early because the last haircut didn't work that well for me. To be fair, I have wimpy hair and a cut that is 1/4 inch different than usual makes a big difference for me. Plus, I'm picky.

I'm so sorry about your water catastrophe. I guess if there is a silver lining, it's that you met your neighbor. What a mess and water does so much damage. I don't understand why you have to turn the hot water handle in the first place. Don't they just stay in the On position all the time? Mine do. I hope they are able to get everything dried out good because you don't want to end up with a mold problem. Thank goodness for insurance.

Wow! Kayla is really lucky that she has parents who can afford to buy a townhouse that she can live in. My parents never had that kind of money and neither do I. I assume that Jake ass is far, far, behind in the rear view mirror and that Kayla has moved on.

Barb That's so great that Chad was able to spend so much time with you. It sounds like he got you out and about quite a bit. Plus, it's a nice break to have someone else do the cooking once in a while. I still haven't got my fat ass back on the WW program.

We had new neighbors move in a couple of doors up the street and I assume that the tabby cat I've suddenly started seeing on my back deck belongs to them. I will have to let them know about the coyote I saw on our street last week. Plus, there are a lot of missing cats in Pacifica right now due to coyotes. I hope they take the kitty in at night. It's super friendly and seems to be about 1 or 2 years old and wears a red collar with a little bell. I know it's coming because of the birdseed i put out for the birds. It would love to get one, that's for sure. My dog would love to chase the kitty so I have to make sure the area is clear before I let her out.

It's good that you got a photo of that neighbor dog doing the deed on your lawn. What a pain in the butt that they didn't take care of this in the first.

Mary Have you stopped running, yet? LOL You are such an industrious and hard working woman. I made a batch of peanut butter cookies last night with Hershey Kisses on them. I'm taking most of them to a friend's house tonight to have with our coffee after dinner. Kathy and I take turns taking each other out once a month and then we return to her house where her husband has made coffee and we have our dessert and coffee with him. It's her turn to pay for dinner this time so my turn to provide dessert. Peanut butter cookies are her favorite cookie.

Other than that, I haven't been up to a whole lot. I order a lot from Amazon so I end up with a lot of boxes. I got them all broken down and bundled up for pick up from our recycling company. It was satisfying to get those out of the garage.

Dianne, Thanks for sending a new blog to Tina. It's a shame that she doesn't post anymore.

J/L, It was really nice having Chad here. We talked about him moving back to Sac. He needs to talk to Arch about it. Since Arch's Mom has fourth stage cancer, it would be good for him to move back, too, She could really use some help. She has three other kids and the two girls help out as much as they can, but they both have jobs and kids so it's hard for them. Her other son lives out of town and has a job that doesn't allow for him to take off too often.
Peanut Butter cookies with the Kiss in the middle was always my "go to" dish to bring to potlucks and classroom functions when my kids were in school. They were easy and everyone seemed to like them.

Mary, I hope you are able to get in for your surgery on a cancellation, soon. Having both kneed replaced, I understand your pain.

Barb, it is too bad Tina doesn’t post anymore. She added so much humor to the blog. It sure is nice of her to keep the blog up for us all these years.

Still dealing with our eight blowers and restoration of house. We don’t have any news on what will happen next. I finally got the information I needed for the insurance company. Didn’t hear back from our management company until late today but I for sure have connections after being in the mortgage business all my life.

Going wedding dress shopping with Tammy on Sunday. The girls will go and some of her friends and me.

JL, I went to ww today after not weighing for two weeks and I lost .8 I’ll take anything especially after a holiday week. Point 8 isn't much but better than showing a gain. Ive got to get back in the grove of this program. I’m hit and miss on it. I really get a lot out of the meetings.
The reason I turn off my faucets is that I had a horrible flood years ago and. My washer was upstairs in a brand new house. A little hole was in the hose and the restoration then told me to always turn my hot and cold off on the washer each time. I had to. I’ve kut for a month and I’d only lived there a day.
The girls are very fortunate that their actually step mother (Wendy) does so much for them. Sometimes it’s a little too much in my opinion but their dad (Andy) is the kind of dad that wants to be their friend. Wendy has a very good job as a partner in a accounting firm. Yes, Jake is still in jail and we hope he will stay there. I still have a nervousness about that whole situation. I’m glad she’ll have her girlfriend as a roommate and is seeing someone.

Mary, any news on knees today?

Hi gals, I really not feeling well, but I missed you all and am sacrificing myself to the blog lol!!
I have no idea what hit me! All of a sudden I am all congested and coughing, like I have pneumonia, the next minute I have non stop nasal drip! My eyes are itchy and I am short breathed after walking Zoie. It is very dry & windy and the farmers are harvesting their wheat. Lots of pollen in the air. I hate taking meds, but I broke down and took an allergy pill so I can sleep!
I went gross-ery shopping because I was out of a few things including Kleenex. It was the most miserable trip ever! It was bad enough going in and out of stores, but Our Local Fair started today and the traffic was horrible! I am not going out again until this crap is all gone!
Jim went to the Casino today and my son had a DDS apptmt. so I was on my own as far as shopping.

Sorry I didn't comment on you individually. Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow.
Tina and Shirley I miss you!! Come out of the bushes please!

Barb, It sure would be nice to have Chad closer to you. I really don't know what I would do without my sons close by. Matthew takes care of all repairs and lawn work. My son Tony was here today to help replace the air conditioner in my home office. He is coming next week to power wash the upper garage. It has needed it for a long time. Jim just isn't much on upkeep when it comes to things like that. OK, the truth is, he is lazy lol!

Justlin, how did your hair turn out today? I can't imagine you not looking perfect! You always look so put together. I am usually a mess!

Dianne, I love the blog story! I had never hear that one. Too funny!
I hope you are drying out. Hang in there it could have been worse, like you falling and breaking something. Let's hope your bad luck is done for the year!
Yay on losing weight!! Let's hope your next weigh in is not too bad due to "water retention", ok, enough with the water jokes :) Love you!

BTW, I am feeling a lot better. I am still a bit congested and my nose is sore from all the "tissue issue", but all in all. I think I will live :)

Just_Lin said...

Mary I'm so glad you feel better. I was getting worried about you. Allergies can sure be miserable but at least it's not pneumonia. When I was in high school in southern California, I used to get allergies really badly. I remember days when my eyes were running so badly that I could barely see to walk across campus. The fact that my tears probably had mascara in them sure didn't help. I also had a doctor's note to excuse me from PE when it was swimming because I was allergic to such high levels of chlorine in the pool. The sneezing seemed endless. I didn't want to do the swimming anyway, because I didn't want to mess up my hair. LOL I've always been pretty picky about my hair. My poor hairdresser.

That's nice that your sons pick up the slack and do what Jim doesn't. He could be counting on that. How is your son's neck? What's going on with that whole situation? I sure hope they can get you in earlier than scheduled for your knee. That's going to slow you down quite a lot for a while so I hope Jim knows he will need to pick up some of the slack.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I still haven't gotten back on the WW program. I'm not sure what my problem is. Maybe I just like berating myself everyday and feeling bad about myself. Or maybe I'm lazy right now and am just fixing meals that are easy. Someone needs to give me a kick in the butt.

My friends Jane and John and I went to see the documentary about Fred Rogers titled "Would You Be My Neighbor". It was excellent. There came a point in the film where all three of us needed a tissue. I highly recommend it. What a unique and special human being he was.

Do you still have the big fans blowing today? The sound must drive you nuts. I know it would me. Someday you will be able to laugh at "The Year of the Great Flood". I hope that happens sooner rather than later. It's pretty ironic that this happened because of what you were doing in an effort to avoid this exact thing.

It sounds like Tammy is doing it up big even though it is a second marriage. Good for her. Have you seen the movie "Bridesmaids"? Here's hoping your shopping trip is nothing like that. LOL

Just_Lin said...

Barb I bet you miss having Chad around now that he had such a nice long visit with you. It sounds like a good time for he and Arch to move back to Sac but I don't know what Arch's employment situation is.

So, is there any more news about the neighbor dog, The Great Shitter? It's just such common sense to not let your dog go crapping on everyone else's lawn.

Speaking of dogs, my dog loves when one of the dog walkers arrives to take her out hiking. The main one, Sue, is in Africa right now. When she is away, either Marianne or Marianne's daughter come to take Ursula out. Ursula gets especially excited when it's Marianne. Maybe it has to do with the fanny pack of dog treats she wears, whatever. Anyway, she was so excited to see Marianne on Monday that she tried to jump into the back of her SUV when it wasn't even open. She didn't hurt herself but it sure looked funny just like a cartoon.

How are your kitties doing? There was a very friendly young cat showing up on my deck for a few days, probably attracted to the birds I get due to the birdseed I put out. Anyway, I haven't seen it for several days now. I sure hope the coyote I saw last week didn't get the kitty. There are a number of cats missing in the area.

sacBarb said...

J/L, My kitties are doing well. Since I live by the river, there are occasional coyotes and mountain lions in the neighborhood. That’s the main reason I don’t let my cats out. There are also a lot of raccoons and they can get mean, too. I worry about the cats that live across the street, but so far they seem to be OK. Those neighbors have only lived there about three years.
I have heard nothing from the county about my dog complaint. I’m not happy.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I would like it if Chad moved back to Sac. We even talked about him moving in with me. Since I retired, I thought that if I died suddenly in my house, no one would find me for days unless I had an appointment that I missed. There isn’t anyone that I see or talk to every day. If Chad lived here, at least I wouldn’t go unnoticed for more than 24 hours. I realize that’s morbid, but the older I get, the more I think about that.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Are you finally all dried up? Of course I mean your laundry room! Did Tammie find a wedding dress? I bet it was fun looking for one with her. Not having any daughters, I have never had that opportunity.

Dianne said...

Good evening hooters..

Barb, they finally came and took fans and heaters out today as everything is now dry. The laundry floor and drywall will be replaced. They took out the floor on Saturday. We couldn’t get anyone including insurance to call us back. We left two messages on Friday and another this am and no response. I called again this afternoon and she answered her darn phone and never mentioned the messages. She transferred me to a different person that was very helpful. Called a contractor Friday...no response. We are now going through insurance contractor and he is already coming for an estimate tomorrow. We’re getting new hoses, etc. too. We are very frustrated. We also are supposed to get ice maker fixed under warranty and they have no record of order a week ago. LOUIS sat on phone for an hour and a half waiting on that today. We made a trip to laundromat Friday night. They no longer cost a quarter...$17 later. That was an experience I’d like to not do again.

The fun news is I did go wedding dress shopping with Tammy and the girls and three other friends. She found a beautiful long navy blue dress. We can’t post pictures because she doesn’t want James to see it. The girls each found lighter blue that looks really nice with her dress. She found one right away. We all went to lunch first.

Mary, hope you’re feeling much better by now. We had a beautiful chilly rainy day on Sunday. It was a nice relief. I guess no news on surgery ...darn it. You and your water jokes. I will say the water retention one was funny in between my house misery. My house looks like a tornado came through it with all the workers in and out and junk all over from laundry room. I’m glad your sons are so helpful to you. My son lives some distance and works all the time. My ex sil, Andy will help us if needed though.

JL, I’m like Mary about your hair. It always looks so pretty. I have that new hairdresser about six or seven months now close by and I like her a lot. I just talked to someone else that saw that movie and highly suggested it too. This weekend Ma Ma Mia comes out. I can’t wait to see it. We have our Texas family coming in Wednesday so I won’t get to see it this weekend. Glad Ursela wasn’t hurt jumping in the closed car.

Tammy, barb and I went to see Keith Urban on Saturday evening. It was an outdoor venue and a beautiful night. It was a wonderful show. Boy, he can play that guitar. I love going to concerts there on a beautiful night. We get free parking because of handicap and seating as well. Heard from Tina as she went to same concert the night before in Salt Lake. Gosh, I hadn’t talked to her forever. They are empty nesters now.

I’ve once again written a novel.

Dianne, I posted a pic of the new high heel crocks on Tina's page. Maybe that will entice her to comment here. LOL

I feel your frustration about your house. I was going to call for painting estimates but Dean had surgery today to hopefully fix his knee. The Doc said it was scar tissue build-up that was causing his pain. It took almost three years to get the surgery approved and he found out today that it was all because the Doc did not fill out the worker's comp form correctly. It was approved immediately after he finally completed the form right! Dean is really pissed because he has been in pain that whole time. Anyway, I hope this fixes it for him. He will be staying here on Thursday and Friday during the day because his wife goes back to work. He may stay here next week, too, depending on how he feels.

I am still going to get painting estimates, hopefully soon.

Justlin, I don't remember ever having allergy issues growing up. I think working in two factories with so much pollution flying around could have started my problem. I worked at Chrysler Trim for 11 years. We worked with a lot of fibers and "Corinthian" leather. I think it was Ricardo Montalban who said that word with a rolling r-r-r-r. You all may not remember that commercial lol!

Barb.I know exactly what you mean about thinking of our coming "demise" lol I read a mem today about de-cluttering with a line that went something like "someday someone will have to go through all your stuff", and another one I have seen is "if you need to buy something to store something in, you may have to much stuff" lol! I need to go through a lot of papers, files.receipts, etc that I am sure are no longer of any use.

Dianne, I am still a bit baffled by someone telling you to turn off your water when not in use. I have never done that. I bet you can't wait to get your house back in order! Our temps tonight have dropped quite a bit. A nice relief! We are in the middle of our county fair season. My girlfriend and I will be going to Ladies Day Friday. We go for the freebies lol. They usually have a pretty good speaker.

Dianne said...

Grrr Barb...how frustrating for Dean! Three years? I’d be pissed too. It’s so ridiculous that people can’t do their jobs correctly. It’s so many people and all different job types. I hope his surgery fixes the problem. Damn, I’m mad and I don’t even know Dean! Good luck with the painting estimates.

We had the plumber coming between 10-2 today. After us calling to see where he was ...running behind...he came at 8:30 tonight. Wrong plumber..he only does drains not washers, hoses, etc. They will try and come Friday. My cousins are coming from Texas tomorrow night so we are busy with them on Thursday. Another frustrating day.

Dianne said...

Mary, I think we were typing at the same time last night. If you could have seen how damaged my house was from a tiny hole in a hose years ago...you’d be turning off your water faucets too. My washer was upstairs and the damage was so horrible we had to move out for a month! We are getting a new thing installed that you just push lever and faucets turn off. We are back up to 95-100 temps again through the weekend.

We’ve worked hard on going through things so there’s not so much for the kids to do some day. LOUIS is working on his office downstairs and my office is my next project down the road not too far. It’s messy. We will pretty much be done until it’s time to do pantry again.

No house people today. LOUIS went out this afternoon and it was my ww day....I gained! We had one message and it was from the Ins adjuster that never returns calls checking to see if things were going ok. She is on my last nerve.

Night.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I totally don't understand the plumber that only does drains. You must be sooo frustrated with this whole situation. I guess I'm lucky that I don't have a laundry room. My washer and dryer are in my attached garage so if there ever is a problem with the water hose, it will happen in the garage. I don't want to jinx myself by even thinking about that. Maybe I should knock on wood or something.

I need to get back to working on sorting through stuff to discard or donate. I do have a few things set aside that I know are going to be donations.

I ordered a couple of tops from Macy's and one works for me but the other didn't so I returned it to the store yesterday. My closest Macy's used to have a very nice section for plus size women but they've relocated that section in the store and the selection seemed much smaller and not the items not as nice as before. They are doing some renovations and also had a sale recently so maybe that's why. I felt disappointed as I had hoped to find a different top to replace the returned one but I didn't.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I keep accumulating more "stuff" in the way of art stuff that I keep not using. I don't know what my problem is. I also have a lot of Creative Memory stuff for creating fancy and artistic photo albums. I haven't done that in many years.

Yesterday I ran several errands besides returning a top to Macy's. One of the errands was to be to mail in bill payments but then I forgot to bring them with me. I guess I better take care of that today. Yes, I still pay bills the old fashioned way. I don't like the idea of having my bank information floating around.

Now when I take my dog out for her last pee between 10 and 11, I keep my eyes open for that coyote I saw running down my street a couple of weeks ago. I keep telling my dog, "Hurry up". LOL

Barb I went to the movies Tuesday with my friends and we saw RBG, the documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsberg. It's really good and what a fascinating woman. I didn't realize how much she has done for women. It was interesting to see how pretty she was as a young woman and the obstacles she faced. I give it two thumbs up.

My son is not married to his girlfriend but they have a blended family as they both have kids. Lavena's son, Matteo, had kidney issues his whole life, basically. It was at a critical point a year ago when he was able to get a transplant. Unfortunately, the transplant is starting to fail after a year. Two months ago his creatinine was too high so they retested it yesterday and the number had doubled. He was then flown by helicopter to Stanford. They say it is a "cell" rejection as opposed to anti-body rejection. They hope to fix this by taking his immune system back down to zero just like they had to do when he first got the new kidney. It is a long process of testing and retesting an he and his mom will be staying at the McDonald House again like they did a year ago. The poor kid. I feel so bad for him.

I'm sorry Dean had to go so long without his much needed medical care. That sucks!

Hello..well, the weekend is ending. We have been enjoying our Texas family and sort of a family reunion st Tammy’s Saturday. We had a good turn out and everyone brought something and we had pulled pork with it. It was fun to see our cousins that we don’t see often. Today we hung out at Tammy’s just talking and then out to dinner. Tomorrow we go away overnight with the Texas two to a gambling town about two hours away.

The plumber finally came today for the fourth time and this time someone that knew what they were doing. Plumbers are very expensive for labor! We had some work done on a toilet too while he was here. Now we wait for the contractor to call tomorrow. Hopefully everything will get done this week.

JL. I’ve never heard of that movie. How is Matteo doing? That’s pretty scary. I hope he gets better. Do you have a Catherines by you for shopping? I find I like their clothes a lot. I order online and take back to store and try not to buy something else! I did order dress pants for the wedding from Dillard’s but I haven’t tried them on yet. I think they might be too short but we shall see. I’ve never really shopped at Macy’s. Tammy got all her flower arrangements done for wedding today. They turned out perfect.

Barb, is Dean doing better? He had the surgery, right? Is he staying with you this week? I sure hope his surgery will take care of his pain. Did you call a painter yet for an estimate? It sounded like you’re kind of busy right taking care of Dean. Btw, did you ever hear anything about the dog pooping on your yard?

Mary, hey, what’s up? How’s that heat Doing? It’s been very hot all weekend but a little cooler today and some rain. The mountain place we are going is down in the 50’s tonight. That’s ok with me! We probably won’t leave the casino anyway where we are staying. I like to just go to one place. How was the ladies day at the fair? Did you have a funnel cake? I love those. How are your allergies and how is Jim doing?

Ok...I have to go pack now.

sacBarb said...

J/L, That's sad about Matteo. How old is he? I will pray that they can reverse the problem and he gets better. I have heard of the RGB movie and was looking to go see it, but I couldn't find it here. I am going to look again this week.

Dianne, I have heard nothing from the county about the dogs. I have had plumbers here that only do certain things. My friend's SIL works for one of the big plumbing companies here and he only does drains. He uses a machine that has a camera on the end of a hose or something like that and it goes out to the main drain in the street. It's way more technical than that and I really don't understand it. Dean is doing well and he is not staying with me. He had the surgery Tuesday and it was out-patient. The Dr. cut out the scar tissue orthoscopically (sp?) and his wife was off work Tuesday and Wednesday. He called me Thursday morning and said he was getting around OK on the crutches and was just going to stay home. However, I do have a house guest. My sister's a/c went out and she couldn't get anyone to come out to fix it until Tuesday, so she is staying here. Our temps have been in the high 90s and she can't take the heat. I am always cold, so I don't keep my a/c too low and I told her she would have to put up with that. I guess it's better than no a/c, though.

Mary, I did a lot of de-cluttering when getting ready for the floor people, but I need to do much more. I have about 20 brown grocery bags half full of papers with confidential info. They are all stapled shut. A lot of the stuff is old papers from the glass business and old insurance and tax papers. Sharon is going through her files and we are going to take all our stuff to a place that does shredding.

Im home and only lost $25. I won a $190 on a walking dead penny slot. We gambled yesterday, last night and little today so I felt pretty good about it. The hotel was nice and little cafe was good and cheap. Yesterday was free lunch for seniors. Today’s breakfast was $3.95. We went with my two cousins from Texas and always have fun with them. I had quite an issue with my breathing last night. The altitude was 9450 so quite a bit higher then Denver. If I would have been home like that, I would have gone to ER. It was too late for a two hour mountain drive home in pouring rain. When I sat up I was able to breathe better. I think it’s time to see my lung again. I really think I needed oxygen bad. It was very very scary. I’m better today.

Barb, so glad to hear that Dean is doing well. Good thing your sister could stay with you. Did her air get fixed today? I feel, sorry for Kathy, I think it was 118 there today. I couldn’t stand it! I’d never leave the house. We’re on the high 90’s too. I’m so looking forward to fall. It’s hailing bad today and that always scares me.

Missing you Mary and JL. Hope you’re both doing well.

Dianne Here I am. I've been dragging lately. I don't know why I've been so tired but Yesterday and the day before that, I didn't get up until 10:30. Today was better as I got up at 9:30. For one thing, I'm not sleeping well and doing a lot of tossing and turning. Part of it is due to my hip starting to hurt if I'm lying on that side, and partly due to the fact that it's been kind of humid lately and I start throwing my blankets off in the middle of the night.

Yay for you winning on a slot machine. Only being out $25 after entertaining yourself so long is doing really well, as far as I'm concerned. It sounds like you had a fun time with your cousins. It's really nice that you can get together with them.

Poor Kathy. I don't think I could handle that heat, either, and I know I wouldn't want to have to. My brother still lives in southern California where we grew up and they have had some extreme heat, too. I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Just_Lin said...

Barb So far, things are going okay for Matteo. The kidney itself is in good shape so that is a good sign. They hope they've caught the problem in time. His creatinine is better now and so is his blood pressure which had been way up. He has a catheter going directly into his heart to administer medications that are too caustic to go into a vein as it would fry the vein walls. It has to go into a larger body of blood. They are destroying his antibodies and his body's memory of the antibodies. This will be a long haul just like it was at the beginning of the transplant process a year ago. At some point, he will be transferred from the hospital to the Ronald McDonald House so he will be close by Stanford Hospital for the frequent testing and monitoring. He is 17 years old now. They've known since he was about 12 that a transplant would eventually be needed. I feel so bad for him. I sure hope they're able to reverse the rejection that's been happening.

Did Marie's A/C get fixed? How was it having her as a house guest? I hope Dean is doing better every day.

I just finished reading a very interesting book, "Educated: A Memoir". It was written by a woman who was born in the 80's to a Mormon fundamentalist, separatist family. They didn't believe in sending the kids to school or going to doctors. There was no real homeschooling, either, besides some basic reading and simple math. What her life was like living that way is really interesting and what she went through physically and psychologically and how hard it was to decide to go against family and get some education. She now has a PhD from Columbia. I highly recommend it.

Mary Where are you? We are missing you.

Last week I took my dog for a walk along the levee by the pier. I was unprepared for the wind as it hadn't been windy at my house. I was not wearing a jacket with a hood and the cold wind was coming off the ocean and hitting me right in the ear. It was really annoying after a while. I could only handle it for a half an hour but I guess 30 minutes of walking is better than nothing.

Dianne, Dean is dong well. He is going to be off work for at least six weeks. He starts PT next week. Good for you only losing $25. Cheap entertainment! You should definitely check in with your lung doc. I bet that was scary!

J/L, I'm glad Matteo is doing better. I will keep him in my prayers.

Marie was here until Tuesday when she had an appointment scheduled to fix her A/C. The person never showed up, and when she called they rescheduled for next Monday. So she came back over here and I called and got an appointment for tomorrow. I will go to her house and wait with her so I can make sure it gets fixed. She is NOT good handling repair people. Remember the couple that she had there to clean her house and they stole a lot of her stuff? She didn't keep an eye on them the whole week they were there 'working' and didn't notice things were missing until they were gone. Then, since she got their name out of the Penny Saver, she had nothing but a phone number and even the police couldn't find them.

That book sounds interesting. I think I'll download it to my Kindle.

Hello!
Not much happening here. It seems others around here are having a lot of drama and issues.
I think I prefer my boring life lol!
Dianne, I love funnel cake! I didn't get one this time. The fair is called "the Ionia Free Fair" They don't charge admission to the fair grounds, but charge $10.00 to park. There is $5.00 parking off the grounds or you can park further away for nothing. With my bad knee I have to park on the grounds. Jim didn't go this year, because of the heat. He would not have lasted long out there!
Losing only $50.00 on your trip is like winning to me lol! Sorry about your breather trouble. I hope you can solve your problem.

SacBarb, You are such a good friend to Marie. Some people take advantage of kind hearted people. Pisses me off! I hope she gets that AC fixed soon! I am glad you will be with her when the repair person shows up!
Mateo is so young! I will send up prayers for him. My prayer list is getting pretty long! I have a Matty, Matthew and now Mateo, along with many more! Sadly I sometimes fall asleep in the middle of my prayers lol!

JustLin,30 minutes of walking, wow! Good for you! Next time remember "layers". Don't be catching a cold!
That book sounds interesting. I will check Amazon to see if they carry it.
Keep an eye out for that Coyote!!

I was gone all day today. I decided to visit my new Great Niece, Raquel's daughter.
It is a 2 hour drive, which is mostly highway.I haven't driven that far alone in , well, never lol! I knew there might be heavy traffic due to it's beoing Friday, but decided that the weather was perfect, so I went. Raquel's "Myla" is the sweetest! I hadn't seen her since she was born. She is almost 6 months old. I stayed for a great BBQ lunch and left about 2:00. I stopped at a casino on the way back. Karina had been there for a concert when she was in Michigan. She forgot she had a couple of casino winning vouchers. She gave them to me before she left. They had expired, but they let me cash them anyway. I played them on a machine, lost and left lol! I was home by 4:30.
The traffic was bad, but I kept my cool. I didn't have to cook when I got home. Jim went and got a pizza :)
Tomorrow is recycle day, fun eh? Our quarter beef is ready to be picked up, so I will be restocking the basement freezer. Our neighbor's son raises his own beef. We spit it with him and his dad. I like knowing where my meat comes from. I ask them to keep the bone in the roasts. They taste so much better with them in.

Later....

Good evening! How was everyone’s weekend? Not much going on...nails, hair, lunch. Barb and I went to see Ma Ma Mia today. I’ve been waiting forever for it to come out. It was so good and I love the music. Meryl Streep isn’t in this one. If you happen to go, don’t leave until after all the credits as more comes on. Cher sang a couple of songs too. I’m just love those kind of movies!

Our house is still a mess after three weeks. Ins is dragging their feet big time. My laundry floor is torn up, etc. If we don’t hear anything tomorrow morning LOUIS will call. He said he’s going to tell them we want our house back.

Mary, I can’t believe your new great niece is already almost six months old. Time sure goes fast. I say my prayers in the car when I’m out driving as I fall asleep at night sometimes too. The only bad part is when you’re praying and someone cuts in front in you and you say damn right in the middle of your prayers!! I called the pulmonary dr regarding the breathing issue and got in for first available....oct 15! Crazy with these drs. Has Karina moved out of Michigan now? I think,I missed that...

JL...glad things are going better for Matteo. What a hard thing to go though. I too will add him to my prayers. Boy, you’d freeze here. You’d be cold just in my house and then not like the high 90’s outside...then winter arrives. I saw a big store all set up and advertising outside for Halloween today already.

Barb, how’s the repair on your sisters air conditioning going? Is it all fixed and she’s comfortable at home now? So, did you decide to go to New York with Chad? It sounds fun. When would the trip take place? I was just thinking about the weather. I guess hot or Snowy! Glad Dean is doing well. I did laundry today and yesterday but won’t do it yet unless LOUIS is here. He wants to know when I’ll feel comfortable again doing it alone? Not yet, that’s for sure.

Well updated crazy news

Well, I’ve been at urgent care/emergency room and I have shingles yet again on forehead by eye. I have eye appt tomorrow. My oxygen low so was on oxygen, had a chest X-ray looking for pneumonia (none) and breathing treatment. They switched me from urgent care to emergency care. I’ve gone home with prednisone, eye drops and shingle meds. My eye had been bothering me for awhile. This is the same area I had shingles last time. I’ve had three shingles shots, last one being 95% sure you wouldn’t get it. Ha! It does help it not to be so bad. Not contagious. As my primary says...I get “adventurous” diseases.

sacBarb said...

OMG Dianne, I've never heard of someone getting shingles more than once. How long does it usually last? Sorry you have to take prednesone again. I hate that drug!

The saga of my sister's a/c continues. The technician said it couldn't be repaired and she would need a new one, but they have to get approval from the insurance company. She has that American Home Shield insurance and it sucks. She pays a $50 premium every month and she has a $3,000 deductible. The guy came out today to give her an estimate of the cost, because it might go over the maximum and she might have to pay more than just her deductible. I didn't go with her because I thought it was just going to be a short appointment to give her the total cost. The guy that came over refused to go in her house because it's a mess and he said he didn't want to 'catch a disease.' It's true her house is a mess, but it's mostly just clutter, not like dirty dishes or food all over. Just magazines and newspapers piled up and bags and boxes with stuff in them. I should have gone with her. She called the insurance office and they will send someone else out, hopefully tomorrow and this time I will definitely go with her. Whoever comes over better not get in my face! All this is just delaying the installation and prolonging her stay with me!

sacBarb said...

Mary, it seems like just a week or two since Raquel had her baby. She is probably sitting up and crawling. How nice that the casino still honored the vouchers even though they expired. I guess they figure it will keep people there gambling and spending more money.

Just_Lin said...

Barb That really sucks about Marie's A/C. That sure is a high deductible but I have no idea what an A/C system would cost. Last night I turned the heater on. LOL The fog is low this morning and blurring the top of the hills and my deck was all wet but is drying out now. It's good you will be able to meet the next repair guy with her. That last guy sounds like a real jerk or else he had a real bad experience in someone else's house. Maybe he's in the wrong line of work.

Matteo is hanging in there but it's really a bad situation. The medication they are putting into his heart to reduce his antibodies has given him diabetes. It was always understand that eventually he would need another kidney as kidney transplants don't last a lifetime but the fact that he's having this trouble so soon means he is not a good candidate for another kidney. This is scary.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I can't believe you have Shingles again! This really sucks. I guess it must have been the faucet break that stressed you out so much to bring this on? I'm so sorry. And then there's the breathing problems. Do you have asthma and, if so, do you have inhalers that you aren't using? I'm worried about you. Don't get upset if you gain weight from the prednisone.

I'm glad you enjoyed your Mama Mia movie. It's definitely not my cup of tea. I wouldn't mind seeing the new Mission Impossible movie. It's getting really good reviews.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I'm glad you braved the long drive by yourself. I'm sure you felt it was totally worth it. Time sure is going by fast. It seems to go faster the older I get,

I took the dog on another 30 minutes walk the other day. This time we just walked around the neighborhood. She has to stop and smell a lot of spot so that give my painful sciatica a break for a moment or two. I've started doing some stretches in the morning that are supposed to help with sciatica but we will see if there is any improvement. I know it would be better if I lost a considerable amount of weight, too, but so far that hasn't happened. I need to force myself to move around more, too, but it's so easy to just be lazy and get cozy on a cool, foggy day like today.

Dianne said...

Can’t believe I have shingles again either! Saw eye doc today and they are not in my eye yet. He gave me his cell number so if I have any pain in my eye call him immediately. I go back again Monday. He said they’d get worse the next few days but how lucky I caught it so fast. I think I should be a dr. I told LOUIS yesterday that I thought I had shingles and he told me I worry too much. They were very concerned last night about my breathing and put me on oxygen and ekg.

JL, I don’t think this flood stress helped and how it’s almost a month and not getting response from anyone. Along with Tammy’s wedding next month, grandkids, etc. my rash is back some too. That concerns me. I just want to go back to Branson and relax! I only went to eye dr today and then home resting (boring). LOUIS isn’t feeling too well today. His arm is killing him from the shingles shot and I think it bothered him more than the first one did. He seems better tonight. We did finally get approval from Ins late today on house now aiting tomorrow for contractor to tell us when repairs will start. Finally!
Is there another chance that they’d do another transplant on Matteo? I feel so bad for him I’ll bet it is very scary. I’ll keep him in prayers

Barb, our air conditioner cost us $10,000 two years ago and we have a very small place . Guess you’d better be there tomorrow. What did company say about him not wanting to go in house? I could see if dog or something but not just clutter. You didn’t know you were having a new roommate for so long , did you? Are you cooking every night? I might come stay with you. I felt bad for Kathy last night with power out. She was so worried about her food and it was hot! It was off for a long time with their storms. We all have such crazy weather.

Mary, hi...

Mary/MI said...

Heading out for the day. I didn't want you all to think I was ignoring you lol!
I will comment later tonight.

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, yes the trip to see the baby was so worth it! She is such a happy baby.
I think you are doing great walking. I find my sciatica flares up when I walk on uneven ground. Have you tried rolling a tennis ball on your but? I have a few times. I also use my fist when laying down. It stretches the sciatica and relieves the pain.

SacBarb,She(Myla) isn't crawling yet, but she sits up real good. Lena moved a couple of blocks from Raquel to be near the baby and of course to help. She watches her on Thurs. and Fri. She loves every minute of it!
I sure wish I lived closer, but at least they aren't out of state!

Dianne, what are we going to do with you? Roll you up in a giant roll of gauze & keep you in bed listening to country music until you straighten up lol!! I feel so bad for you :( .I think you need another vaca!

Today I had a lot of running around to do. I found a lot of good bargains! I actually remembered to bring along all my coupons! My best bargains were at JC Penny and Christopher Banks. I had a $10 coupon at C&B. I bought 2 set of earrings at half price . With coupon, paid $5. Yay me! I quit buying expensive earrings. I wear the diamond studs Jim got me and cheaper ones on the lower ear. I have a bad habit of losing one earring! I have many lonely single earrings in my drawer lol!

Dianne said...

Hi...still fighting all my diseases. My shingles have not spread but itch like heck! I’m doctoring my rash on my tummy with meds from last big time. I go to primary on Friday and just keep adding things to my list. She called as she recd a notice that I had shingles. I thought that was nice she called.

My cousins younger daughter lost her husband (32 yrs old) in a motorcycle accident yesterday. They live in Washington. It’s so darn sad.

Mary, you hit the nail on the head.... need to go on vacation again to low altitude. We are going back to Branson in November...almost wish it was then except for snow. How nice for your sister to live close to Myla. This is first grandchild, right? I loved that babysitting when the girls were little...ahh, the good old days. Wow, great deal on your earrings. I do the same as you on the lower earring.

JL and Barb....hi gals!

Sister update: So another repairman came out yesterday and he said all it needed was a part, which he had in his truck. It took him about an hour and cool air was blowing in the house. That insurance she has, American Home Shield, isn't good at all. They just have certain contractors that they allow to do the work, but I don't think they vet them. The guy that came out yesterday was from another company. She pays $50 per month and she has had it for almost 10 years. I think she used it once before when her refrigerator died and they replaced it. I don't know what her share was then and she couldn't remember when I asked her. I think if she saved $50 a month, she could have paid for the refrigerator and had a lot left over. Anyway, she isn't at my house anymore.

Dianne, I only cooked one night while she was here. I bought some small rib steaks and we had steak sandwiches and salad. The rest of the time we ordered out and ate leftovers. I told her when she asked if she could stay here that I don't cook much and she was OK with that. We got Chinese food the first night she was here and we had a lot of leftovers from that and other nights we had pizza, Italian food and KFC. I learned that we could order almost anything and have it delivered.
I hope you're feeling better.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, my son does the Uber job a couple days a week, as his back allows. He does a few food orders. He especially liked the one to Hooters lol!
We live too far in the country to get food deliveries, so we take turns picking it up.
Tomorrow is pizza night.
I am so glad your friend didn't have to get a whole new ac unit! Sometimes I just don't trust estimated repair bills.

Dianne,I am so sorry about the loss of your cousin's family member. We have way too many motorcycle accidents here in Mich!
We are thinking of going to Vegas sometime in Sept. Jim wants to make sure all kids are back to school and not running around the Casinos lol!!

Justlin, I feel so bad for Mateo. It is all so scary for him & his family. Continued prayers going up for him.

We have had another suicide in our area. He was a bowling friend of Jim's.I believe he was 46. I have heard that he may have been depressed over a recent health discovery, possible terminal. Here is the even sadder part of it.
I woke up early Monday and checked my FB., someone wrote on one of our local small town sites, this gal got off of the freeway and noticed what looked like a body laying in a drive share parking lot. She got out to see if she could help. This is when it gets weird.. He was obviously dead. She actually went into detail of what she saw! I wont repeat, because it was too graphic! Evidently he had committed suicide by shooting himself. I later found out the gal was a young mother of 3 and a school teacher! Administrator of the site quickly took it down! Can you believe it? The police had not even arrived yet, the man's family had not been notified and may have read the post. I can only think that she may have been in shock and not thinking clearly! Crazy!!

Hi...just dropping by to say hello. Not much on this end. Had a short but nice lunch with an old work close friend and then came home and started cleaning my office. It’s been in my to do list forever. I started with my two drawer big file cabinet and ended up with a full trash bag full of old junk. It took me quite awhile so stopped after sorting through all of it and gradually working my way around room for including more file cabinets and desk drawers.., ugh!

Trying to stay on ww plan as I finally had a decent loss this week. On prednisone so will probably catch up with me next week but sure made my cough go away!

Mary, so sad about Jim’s bowling friend and yes..very strange for that lady to post before police came. I sure hope his family didn’t see it. You’re probably right that she wasn’t thinking clearly. Did Tony have a nice bday? What was for dinner? I guess I forgot your son drove for Uber. Does he ever tell you about weird people? I’ll bet he did like the food pickup to Hooters.

Barb, so glad your sister got all that air conditioner worked out. We have a policy like hers monthly that has been pretty good until our ice maker went out and they old us to get a new refrig. It’s only three years and still under warranty. We had it fixed last weekend...for free.
I never think about getting food delivered except pizzas. I’ll bet it’s expensive to have Uber deliver food. I am feeling better. My shingles are not spreading and I see primary dr tomorrow with quite a long list. I originally made appt to see why my leg still hurts and I’m not walking straight.

JL....I do have slight asthma. I use inhaler in am and pm..only if I’m coughing per dr. I need to use my nebulizer that I’ve never used since I recd about a month ago. Have you ever started up painting again? I don’t hear you mention it anymore. Did you ever get that other glass rescheculed that canceled for lack of people?

Ok... night all

Just_Lin said...

Barb Unbelievable that your sister's A/C was fixed so easily after all that hassle and misinformation. It sure makes a difference when you get a repair person that actually knows what they're doing. About 15 months ago my oven stopped working and I had a repair person from Sears come out. She fixed the oven and I ended up signing up for a similar appliance repair insurance plan which also is $50 a month but is a Sears plan. It saved me money on that repair which is part of why I did it. I could have cancelled after a few months but I ended up keeping the plan until it was time to renew it a couple of months ago and I canceled it. As soon as I did that, I was sure something would break down but so far, so good. Quick! I better knock on wood. LOL

I have new neighbors a couple of doors down and they seem to have a gray tabby which is very friendly and keeps coming to my house. It's attracted to the birds I get on my deck as that is where the bird feeders are. Anyway, of course my dog wants to chase this cat. I had told my neighbors that live between us about the recent coyote sighting on our street and they said they would tell the new people about it as I am hoping they keep they cat in at night. Anyway, at about 12:30 or 1:00 last night, I was watching TV when I heard tapping on my back window. It was that kitty trying to catch a moth. The dog raced to the window, scaring the cat away. I feel bad that the cat was out. There have been too many coyote sightings and too many missing cats.

I've been trying to eat at home more as it saves money but sometimes I'm just not into cooking. Last night I went out to a local little restaurant and they were having a prime rib special so I had that and it was good. Right now Olive Garden is having a "buy one and take one home" special. I should see if my friend Kathy wants to take advantage of that next week. When we've done that before, her take home goes directly home to her husband for his dinner. I've found that their spaghetti warms up very nicely and is easy to heat up as a meal for the following night.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Wow! I'm sorry about Jim's friend. As for the woman who posted about discovering the body, I guess that's a once in a lifetime event and she couldn't wait to unload that information. It's unfortunate that she did it so publicly and didn't confine herself to just calling her husband or best friend.

Vegas in September sounds HOT, HOT, HOT! I guess you park yourselves inside an air conditioned casino and never leave. I know I wouldn't.

Woo hoo! Good shopping using your coupons. That's the only part about shopping that I like. LOL

No, I haven't done the tennis ball thing for my sciatica. I did recently purchase a velcro wrap thing that you put on one leg and use to perform a stretching exercise that is supposed to a small muscle in the butt area and help with sciatica. It's too hard to describe it but I've only had it a few days and I will let you know if it helps the sciatica situation or not.

Just_Lin said...

I'm so sorry about your cousin's daughter's husband. Such a tragedy and he was so young.

That's really good that the prednisone is helping with your cough. I assume it's helping you breathe easier, too. I use a preventative inhaler every morning which seems to do a good job for me. I also have a rescue inhaler which I only have to use once in a while. Actually, I have two; one in my purse and one on my nightstand.

I spent most of Thursday doing paperwork. I had to make a bunch of copies so of course my copier ran out of ink in the middle of the project. I was lucky that they had the correct ink cartridge at my local Rite Aid so I was able to get back to work quickly. Like you, I have file drawers that need to be gone through but what an unexciting project that is. Some of the paperwork hasn't been relevant for decades. A week from Tuesday, PARCA will be coming by to pick up donations so I really need to cull a few things out of my closet and add to the little pile of stuff I've been setting aside for them.

No, I haven't done any painting recently. I am such a procrastinator!

Mary/MI said...

Justlin. A while back I sent for a weird looking contraption that really helps especially when there is no one around to help. It almost looks like a sex toy lol!
It helps stretch the muscle in my back and sciatica. It is made of med hard rubber and kind of looks like the late singer "Prince's" logo when he quit using his name. On each end there is a ball shape. Hard to describe almost a 3 sides rubber cane that you can maneuver to reach the hard to reach spots. I used it a couple of nights ago when my lower back was hurting.
For some reason I have been having sharp pain there lately. My knee could be throwing everything off :(

Dianne, take care of yourself! You gals with breathing problems scare me!
Jim has been using his inhaler and doing his breathing exercises. Today, anyone with breathing problems, have been told to stay inside due to the high temps. We will have another week of them.

Barb, I am thinking of getting a to go meal today. Too hot to cook! We had pizza last night and I immediately got terrible heartburn! Gas was trapped in my middle back. It felt horrible! Some pizza sauces do that to me. This was a whopper!

Happy Saturday everyone. I got a call from the woman who told me about my brother passing away and she said I (or my sister) should call this attorney that has information about my brothers affairs. As far as we know, he didn't leave a will. but he had a old junker of a van that seems to be filled with boxes. The lawyer apparently went through at least some of the boxes and found a check for $75,000 dollars dated 'some years ago.' He didn't say how many years, but he was fairly sure it was too old to cash now, and the money might have even been sent to the Unclaimed Property Division of the State Controller's office. That just shows how weird my brother was. The attorney said the van currently sits on the property of the Cal Vet Home where he was living before he went into the Veteran's Hospital and only a next of kin could remove it. He suggested I go down to Los Angeles and look through the stuff to see if there is anything else (besides the check) that is important. I'm not sure how I am going to be able to do that. I haven't told my sister any of this yet, as she is so rattled by all the a/c stuff, I don't want to tell her until I have decided what I can/will do about it. She tends to make snap decisions without taking into consideration all the consequences.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, When did your brother pass? I don't recall your mentioning him. I don't remember a lot lately! How many siblings do you have?
That was one huge check! I would definitely check out the van and maybe donate it to a charity, before someone rifles through it.

So far it has been a scorching but quiet week end. Not so now. Jim'a buddy Max called and said he is "dropping by", which usually means about 6-8 hours! It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't going into the midnight hours! I try to be patient because he is one of the few high school friends that he has still living.

Have a great Sunday all!!

Just_Lin said...

Barb Well, a $75,000 check is certainly nothing to sneeze at. Do you know what it was for? It might be worth following up on. Maybe it could be re-issued if too much time has passed. Could Todd possibly help with checking out the van?

Just_Lin said...

Mary LOL @ your contraption looking like a sex toy. Certain positions could probably do the same stretching as the contraption I have. LOL

Dianne How are you feeling today?

Dianne said...

JL, I’m feeling pretty good. Thanks for asking. I go to eye dr tomorrow. A lady that buys my Bronco season tickets came by this am as broncos are changing the way you do the tickets. She has bought them for ten years from me but I had never met her. We connected through my cousin that works with her. I’m hoping for Todd to take them over some day. I wish I was mobile enough to go to games. I used to never miss a game back in the day. I’d like to just go to one a year. Met barb and another friend for lunch and that’s it.

I did load of laundry but not comfortable yet unless LOUIS is here to do it. We STILL don’t have our house back in order. It’s been totally ridiculous how no one calls back. It’s been a month now.

Mary, hmmm,,so you have a new “contraption”..interesting. Do you have to hang around with the guys when Jim’s friend is there? I think that might get boring. Now much of an interesting week coming up...two drs and lunches and ww. Next weekend is Tammy’s bridal shower brunch.

Barb, I agree with the others. I’d sure see if that check could be issued again or check with the state. Interesting that the van is still sitting there. How many years has it been?

Guess I’ll go heat up my left over Chinese food for dinner. I’m going to do crockpot tomorrow. I don’t use it much in summer for some reason. It’s been a nice weather weekend...kind of cloudy and mid 80’s.

Mary/MI said...

I had another lazy day today. Almost too lazy lol. I did do my regular house work crap and checked on my garden. I killed an ugly baby tomato worm! I got two new tomatoes and one cuke. Soon we will be swimming in tomatoes!
About 7:00pm I decided to get online. I turned on my tv and saw the news flashing the voter early predictions. I had just made myself an ice cream cone. Well, I jumped out of my seat, ran past Jim and hollered "I forgot to vote!" I took off down the road ice cream cone and all lol! It is only 6 miles to where I vote. I told the gals there why I was late. I know them all, they had a good laugh! They wondered why I had not been down there.
Tomorrow I have lunch with my retiree friends. We are meeting at a bar/restaurant where we used to go after work to chill from a long days work. They are always happy to see their old customers.

Dianne, I do not hang out with Jim and Max. Once in a while I sit with them to be sociable. A bit of Max goes a long way lol!

Mary. I am definitely going to pursue that check issue and I may find the money order Marie sent when she cancelled the check he never cashed from my mother's estate. I thought I explained about my brother that he disowned my parents, and by extension me and my sister, many years ago. I think it was in the early 70s. He wanted my mother to give him a large sum of money, I don't remember how much, and she couldn't give it to him. They had a restaurant at the time and my mother was trying to save for their retirement as they had no retirement plan except Social Security, which wasn't going to be that much. He had an idea for a 'get rich scheme' and my mother wasn't comfortable that it would succeed. He got pissed, and just cut off all contact. This was after my parents put him through UCLA and Medical School in Innsbrook, Austria and supported him while he was in school. After all that schooling and doing some interning in a hospital, he never completed his training and never practiced medicine. It broke my parents' hearts when he decided to cut ties with them. My parents were immigrants, with little to no formal education and did the best they could raising us and while they didn't have much money, we had everything we needed plus lots of love. They sacrificed a lot to pay for his schooling.

Hi, Hooters. Well, last night Jane and I went to a light dinner and movie. Neither of us was very hungry so we each just had a cup of soup and split an order of pot stickers. When we got to the theater, I decided I had room for popcorn. We always like to sit in the very top row in the theater and this one had lots of steps. Unfortunately, it was already dark in there and when we got about half way up, there was a step to the left and then more steps up. I didn't realize that the step to the left was also a step up and I tripped on it and went down hard. Besides spilling part of the popcorn, I was now displaying my considerable backside to those audience members in the vicinity. My right knee took the brunt of the fall and hurt really, really bad. On a positive note, besides my friend, about a half dozen people jumped up out of their seats and ran over to me to see if I was okay. I did need a minute or so to just sit on the step before I felt I could get up on that leg with confidence. Anyway, so many people jumped to my aid that it kind of reinforced my belief in the kindness of strangers. Once I got home I put ice on it and elevated it. I had some trouble sleeping as it was aching and swollen and is showing bruising, too. So that was my night out. LOL The movie was the latest Mission Impossible movie and was very good and exciting. There were tons of stunts in it but I will probably remember the night mostly for my own stunt.

Barb When I got home and got my leg elevated and iced, I caught up on Bachelor in Paradise. O.M.G. This season is going to be more like a soap opera than ever. It's like an accident you can't turn away from.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Yay, for getting your vote in! I vote by mail which saves me from that last minute rush.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Don't you now know where the water shut off is in case there's another incident? I think you've had more than your fair share of that type of situation.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, No I hadn't known about your brother. It is sad that your parents were hurt like that. His loss for sure!
Dam girl, you need to carry a flashlight! I keep a little one in my purse. I hope there won't be any complications arising in the future with your knee! Good for all those jumping up to help!

One of my cousin's son is probably not going to make it through the night. It took me a while to get some of the low down on what happened. Not sure of the whole story yet. First we heard he had a bad fall and cracked his head through the skull! My sis told me he has been having trouble with drugs for many years. I believe he got into an altercation with a male nurse (why, I have no idea) and may have resulted in the bad fall. I believe he is in his 40s. He too was well educated and given all opportunities in life. His mother is the sweetest cousin ever. She had her son from a previous marriage. She is now married to fun loving Scottish man. We all adore him! I am so glad she will have him to lean on during this troubling time.

Good evening. We finally had workers here today to do our laundry room. We have a nice new floor and the wall is dry walled and painted. It looks really nice and it was an all day job. Hopefully basement people will be here tomorrow to finish up down there. A heck, it’s only been over a month! I recd a survey today from Ins company that I will be completing after work is done. I have plenty to say.

Barb, sorry about your brother. I don’t think I knew either. What have you decided to do about looking through van? Very sad for your parents. It sounds like your brother really had a lot of schooling and potential.
It’s hard to understand families sometimes.

JL, your granddaughter is so pretty. How old is she as I forget? Oh gosh, are you ok? My worst fear....falling. I’ll bet you were a little sore the next day. I’m glad so many people came to help you. At least you liked the movie.
Oh yes, i now know where the water turnoff downstairs is located. Our floor guy said he had a big job last week where a swamp cooler leaked on three floors..ceilings, walls, etc. Water damage is so terrible.

Mary, How is your cousins son? I’m sorry about him. There is too much sadness going on. Funny about your voting night. I’m like JL and vote by mail. It’s much easier for me. I kind of thought you didn’t hang out with Jim and Max. Did he stay for hours again?

I’m so darn hungry and trying not to eat extra. I feel like I have a worm in my tummy wanting food. I’m going for X-rays tomorrow of my hip, leg, pelvis to see why I have such a pain in my leg since vacation. Hope it’s nothing a little Pt can take care of for me.

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, My cousin's son is still on life support. The pics she put out of him in the hospital reminded me when Jim was hooked up to all the tubes! She has quite a drive from Saginaw to Detroit. The staff have been very good to her.BTW, Max actually left before midnight! I think he knows Jim tires easily now and took that into consideration.
For hunger pains, I sniff my peppermint oil lol. It's supposed to curb your appetite.
I have peppermint growing in a planter on my patio and break off a few leaves, tear them up a bit and sniff away!

I have finally sold two of my big and heavy speakers. The guy just came and picked them up. I have another smaller set out on the FB Market for sale. I am downsizing my equipment. I just don't have need for them anymore. It was always smart to have back up gear in case of breakdowns. I don't worry about that anymore as we are not doing many gigs due to Jim's health. I haven't advertised at all. I will only be doing small gigs by word of mouth or past recommendations. I am sad to do this as I really love doing it. Oh well, all good thing come to an end sooner or later :(

sacBarb said...

Mary, JustLin is the one who hurt her knee, not me. I’m sorry about your cousin’s son. My heart breaks when young people have such serious injuries. Sue McDermott has been on my mind for some reason lately. I haven’t seen her on FB. I hope she is OK. Do you know what’s going on with her?

sacBarb said...

J/L, I hope your knee is better. I hate going up stairs in the movie theater, especially when it’s already dark. I’m going to the show tomorrow with the Jennifers to see Black Klansman. Denzel Washington’s son is playing the lead role. I agree anout Paradise. It’s going to be a soap opera and it’s on for two nights.
I’m not going to LA to go through my brother’s stuff until early October and Chad will go with me. Also, if we go on a weekend, Todd and Vicki will go up from San Diego and help us. There is a lot of contacts I have to make regarding the check and also Social Security because they owe him about two years of checks. Somehow they got information that he died two years earlier than he did. I am finding out more information and a LA Congressman is involved in trying to resolve the issue.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I bet you’re happy you laundry room is getting done. I am finally going to get the inside of my house painted. I will be getting estimates this week and hope it can be done quickly. Chad is moving back to Sac from Seattle at the end of September and I want it done before then. I am going to have to get rid of some more stuff, furniture especially, to make room for him.

Dianne said...

Hi.....barb, that will be a decent amount of $ from ss. Glad you noticed that as it’s just wrong. Helpful that a congressman’s involved too. I try never to go into the movie theater when it’s dark. I’m really scared of falling. We don’t go up high either ..I’m a big chicken! Barb, I’ve sent a couple of cards to Sue but hadn’t heard anything as I was thinking about her too.

JL, how’s that knee doing? Does it still hurt? Hope not. I’ll bet you have some bruising. Ugh.

Mary, that’s too bad you can’t do as many gigs as you were doing as I know you enjoyed it. Well, it sounds like you’ll still be doing a few plus people know you. Hmm, I’ve never heard of sniffing peppermint oil. Interesting.

Tomorrow I’m going to a brunch shower for Tammy that her friends are giving her. I hope they are too old to have those crazy games anymore....I’m not a game person. We have a 21st birthday bbq to go to later in the afternoon so I will be driving from one end of town to the other. Busy day!

It was very hot her again today...96. Too hot for me! I met a friend at the bank to sign forms as a witness for will, poa, etc. She took us to lunch afterwards. Tonight watched the Broncos lose their first preseason game. It was not a pretty game.

Hello, Hooters. I don't have much to write about as I've been spending the last two days at home with my leg up with an ice pack on it and binge watching British series on Amazon. It's definitely not an exciting lifestyle. I will be doing more of the same today.

Thursday I got my hair done and then rushed to pick up Kathy to head up to the Olive Garden in San Francisco for dinner. It's located in a large shopping center right on 19th avenue so is not crazy downtown city traffic. It's pretty much a straight shot up the coast. I don't do big city driving any more. Anyway, Kathy uses a walker and there is only two handicapped spaces in the vicinity of the restaurant and I think we've only managed to snag one of them once. Next to the two handicap spaces is two motorcycle spaces. WTH? Why would motorcycles need their own spaces? They could have put another handicap space there instead.

My daughter got a tattoo yesterday. I kind of wish she wouldn't have but that's okay. It's a nice looking compass to denote her love of travel and is on the inside of her forearm, a couple inches up from her wrist.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I'm glad you will have Chad with you to go through your brother's stuff. This has turned into quite a project having to pursue the Social Security checks and everything. That's good that you have help from a congressman to maybe grease the wheels. I would definitely notice if I wasn't getting my SS checks anymore.

I've seen ads for The Black Klansman and I'm interested in seeing it, too. Maybe I just can't do stairs and hold snacks at the same time. LOL

Sue has been on my mind lately, too. I should send a text and see what's going on.

Mary I'm so sorry about your cousin's son. What a horrible thing.

It's good you were able to sell your big speakers, at least. I know you will miss doing the big events but it sounds like you will still be doing the smaller ones so that will be nice. Maybe that's a two-sided sword as the smaller events probably put you in closer proximity to the drunks. Ugh!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne It sounds like you are having a very busy day today going from one event to the other. Are you still having hot weather today? It's looking quite nice here, in the 70's.

It looks like we won our first pre-season game but I wasn't watching it. Maybe that's the trick to their success. LOL

Just_Lin said...

When I was writing about going to Olive Garden I forgot to add that we got there at around 5:00 and there was a sign on the door that they were closed for repairs until 6:30. Ugh! I was really looking forward to the "buy one, take one home" deal. So we ended up going to a Mexican restaurant, instead. I did enjoy it and my margarita. We are going back to Olive Garden on Wednesday and taking her husband with us. We will all have a take home meal for dinner the following day. Works for me.

I have been worried about Sue Also. I told Dianne what I thought may be the reason. I think she has not gotten over the cruel comments at least one gal gave her when she visited her Mother the last time. Sue made a comment on her wall about whether she should stop at the casino she was going by on a road trip. The gal was mean and said she shouldn't be spending money foolishly when people had donated to her "Go Fund Me" account. I think it really hurt her feelings. I hope she doesn't think any of us think bad of her! I miss her :(

SacBarb and Justlin, I will forever be confusing which one of you has which ailing body parts lol!! I have knee and neck/shoulder issues, Dianne has eye/teeth/knee/water issues lol, it's no wonder I get confused! That's my story and I am sticking to it lol!!!

It's a quiet Sunday so far. Jim & Zoie are sleeping in the lazy boy. I have been out in the garage reorganizing my side. I have to get rid of junk that has accumulated through the years. I think I will start selling some of my cd s. I have a ton of them! They have all been transferred to my dj files so I no longer need them. They sure take a lot of space!
Enjoy the rest of today :)

My cousin's son is still in critical condition. He is still unconscious. Machines are keeping him alive until body parts hopefully heal.

Just_Lin said...

Regarding Sue: I just heard from her. She is fine. Just taking a break from social media.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I am still praying for your cousin’s son. I really don’t mind you confusing me with J/L. I only wish I had her height and looks. LOL

sacBarb said...

I’m glad Chad will be going to LA with me, too. I’m not sure how the congressman got involved, but I think my brother contacted him. He was living in the Cal Vet Home and somehow SS got info that he died. He was very sick and not able to rake care of his affairs, so he was unaware of the situation. I haven’t gotten far enough into the situation to have enough information yet, but I hope I can get it resolved.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I saw Black Klansman yesterday and it was very good. It’s a serious subject, but had a lot of humor, too. Quite a few actore had cameo roles. I recommend it highly.

Dianne said...

Hi all.....barb, sounds like a good movie. Haven’t seen any coming attractions. I sure hope you can get everything resolved with your brothers things soon. I,too, am glad Chad will be going with you. Did you tell your sister yet? So Mary confuses with you with JL and when we all met, I kept calling you Mary! You won’t know who the heck you are to us.

Mary, hmmm, I don’t remember that comment to Sue. I guess it would have hurt her feelings. I’m glad JL found out she was just taking a break. Lol at you trying to remember which body part is ailing each of us. I don’t have teeth issues anymore (knock of wood). It seems like you had already cleaned your side of the garage not long ago. Now maybe I have you confused!

JL. We are still having nice weather ...high 80’s. I hope the weather is nice for Tammy’s wedding. Her dance floor, etc., are outside with a tent. I haven’t been to Kayla for any beauty treatment yet. She did say she put some makeup on me for the wedding. I don’t wear much anyway. She seems to be booked at the school a lot. Thank you for the compliments you give her on fb. It means a lot to me. How’s your knee and leg dong?

Kathy and I played hooky from ww today and met for an early lunch as she couldn’t stay as long today. LOUIS and I went on a groupon to a really good steak restaurant last night and met my uncle and wife at Olive Garden tonight so it was just as well I didn’t go weigh. We did the buy one get one. Did you go this week, JL? Good thing I like it there as I seem to end up there a lot.

My dr prescribed for me to go to PT twice a week for eight weeks for my leg and back. I start next Tuesday. I’ll be glad to get this pain gone since vacation. I’m walking so bent over and I hate it as it not only hurts but looks like I’m 90;

Poor em had her wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. They hadn’t grown in yet but they like to take them out before they do. She’s still pretty miserable. At least she has it done before school starts and before the wedding.

Dianne said...

Well...me again. Where are you Guys? Went to part of Tammy’s bachelorette party tonight. I left when the party bus picked them all up. I’m just a little too old to go on the bus around town. It looked like a lot of fun and there was quite a turnout. Tammy has a lot of friends. Her best friend planned the whole thing and did a great job.

Went to see Won’t You Be My Neighbor with Barb today. I think you saw that movie JL, right? We really liked it. I liked all the memories and knew all the songs. We went to the theater that only costs $3...can’t beat that price.

1) Wedding is getting very close. 2) em is still not feeling great from wisdom teeth 3) nothing else new

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Here I am. I have been sticking close to home and babying this banged up leg so I have nothing to write about. I think I have now watched just about every British cop show that is available on Amazon and yesterday watched several movies based on Charles Dickens' stories. I guess I'm into period pieces now.

I was invited across the street for dinner at this really nice young coupes house but I declined because of my leg aching and there was to be two other young neighbor families there and I didn't want my leg bumped by little kids or dogs. Rainbow brought over a plate for me which was really sweet and the food was delicious; a beef kabob, a piece of teriyaki chicken, rice pilaf, and salad. I would have enjoyed joining them all if I would have felt better. I think the antibiotics are starting to work on the red area on my lower leg. I still have swelling from the knee down but that is getting better, too, slowly but surely. Boy, I sure did a number on my leg!

It sounds like the party for Tammy was quite an affair. I'm not that much of a drinker anymore so maybe I would have opted out of the bar scene, too, especially if they were not my personal friends.

Yes, I totally enjoyed the "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" movie. What an interesting and special guy he was. We need more like him in the world.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Yesterday was lovely but today we are back to cool and overcast. We have had more than our fair share of gray, gloomy, foggy days lately. I can't see the tops of the nearby hills right now because of the fog. It doesn't make one feel very energetic, that's for sure. I guess that's good since I'm trying to spend a good deal of time elevating my injured leg and putting a package of frozen peas on it. I must say, that fall in the theater didn't do my back any favors, either.

I really want to see "Black Klansman", too. I hope to go as soon as I feel I can negotiate those steps inside the auditorium without too much trouble. Also, there's a bit of a walk from the parking structure to our favorite theater and the swelling in my leg makes it not too comfortable. I went down the deck steps to the backyard yesterday and kind of had to do it in a sideways crab walk. I don't care to do that in front of other people. LOL

Just_Lin said...

Mary Where are you? How is your cousin's son doing? I hope things are improving for him. I will continue to keep him in my prayers.

Mary/MI said...

JustLin, Here I am :) I have been on the road a lot this week, from one end of the state to the other! My ex sil, ( my late bro Tony's ex) is having open heart surgery tomorrow, so I decided to visit her in the hospital. It was about two hrs to the east of here. I went to visit my sis who watches her new grand baby twice a week. She lives almost 2 hrs to the west of me. I took her veggies from my garden. I love seeing Raquel's baby, Myla.
Sorry about your knee.( I hope I have the right body part for you lol). You sure have nice neighbors. I would do the same if I lived near by :)

Dianne. I some h ow can't see you on a party buss lol! I am way to old for that too! Maybe a wheel chair and walking cane party for me lol! The EMTs would have to follow me around!
When is the wedding? I forgot, and will it be close to you? You cad boogie there!

SacBarb, I know you asked earlier and Dianne just did . He is still heavily sedated. Every time they try to bring him out of the meds, he relapses. It is not looking good.
He is on a Echo machine to dry out his lungs, along with all kinds of tubes and breathing apparatuses keeping him alive!
Tomorrow I get my hair did. My roots are screaming!!

Jim had me get tickets for Vegas in Sept. I will be laid up after Nove with my knee, so we decided to go before. I bought my ticket to see Jennifer Lopez. This is her last month in Vegas. Her shows have been selling out fast.

Take care of yourselves.....

Mary/MI said...

I really should proofread!
SacBarb I was referring to my cousin's son.( I know you knew that lol)

My spelling, not so good either lol!

Dianne said...

JL, you didn’t tell us you went to dr for your leg. You told us about the fall but nothing else...so, you do have things to write about to us. Also, I’ve been wondering how you’re doing. I’m sorry you’re having such a rehab with it and your back too. I think you need to not go to top row anymore and have your friend drop you off in front if theater for awhile. Yes, Mr Rogers was quite a guy. It was so interesting to learn all about him. We both really liked the movie and went on your recommendation.

I saw a little video of Tammy and I walking into party last night and I look like a creep all bent over and I was trying to walk my straightest! I haven’t lost much more weight either so I’m very critical of the overall picture. I’ll be glad to go to PT n Tuesday and see if they can help me.

Hello Barb and Mary

Dianne said...

Hi Mary ..we were typing together. Hey, in my single days I was a hell of a lot of fun! I’d would have been in that party bus but pushing 72 and my mobility..nope..not this time. Sorry your cousins son isn’t doing any better. How old is he?
The wedding is sept 1 about 30 min from here at her ex husband and wife’s house. They are good friends now that they aren’t married and we fixed Andy up with his wife we’ve known for 20 years. They have a beautiful mountain home. My son won’t go as there was a falling out with his wife and Andy ten years ago so he will be cordial at events but won’t go to his house. I know it’s hurting Tammy’s feelings and makes me very sad. Life is so short to carry a grudge. I just don’t know why they can’t move on but nope! I’m staying out of it. Aren’t you glad you asked? Your driving sounds like mine. I put more miles on my car driving from one end of town to the other. My ww group is 45 min from here. Oh well, glad I’m able to drive plus I go with an older friend out there too that really can’t drive far anymore.

Ok... now hi Barb!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I didn't actually go to the doctor as my doctor was on vacation. I called the advice nurse at Kaiser and she had a doctor call me back a couple of hours later. My concern is the red, warm, painful area on my lower shin, approximately the size of my hand. Anyway, it has all the earmarks of being an infection so I was put on antibiotics for 7 days. I hope that takes care of it. It's only been half a week but there's only a little improvement.

sacBarb said...

J/L, That doesn't sound good for your leg to still be that sore and probably infected. Shouldn't the antibiotics be taking effect by now? I remember having to take them for 10 days and feeling better by the third or fourth day. Maybe you should go into the doctor and have an xray taken. You may have broken a bone.

I have finally picked a color to paint my house and it's scheduled to be painted starting September 15. It should only take 2-3 days according to the painter guy.

Chad is planning on moving here on October 1. Arch and his brother are driving a U-Haul down with their stuff and they will be here September 30. Chad and his friend Joanne will take turns driving Chad's car down. Arch doesn't drive. Arch will be staying here until his niece and her fiancee move out of his Mom's house so there will be a free bedroom. Chad has two male cats, and Arch has one. Arch's cat will go to his Mom's right away and Chad's cats, of course, will live here. I hope they will get along with Tara and Mellie. It should be interesting.

sacBarb said...

Mary, Wow! I have heard Jennifer Lopez puts on a great show. A friend saw her recently. Is Jim going with you to see her? Did you take any pics of Myla? You should post them if you did.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I'm with you and the others about going on the party bus. I'm not the party girl I used to be, either. It's too bad your son won't be attending the wedding. I know how it feels when family members are at odds. Dean isn't speaking to Chad because of a falling out they had when we went to my FIL's funeral. Dean was completely in the wrong, but for some reason he can't see it. I tried to mediate the issue, but finally gave up and now I stay out of it. I guess when Chad moves in, I won't see Dean that much. Life is too short for this crap! I wish I Dean could see that!

Just_Lin said...

Barb You have a lot of change coming your way. I hope the cats can learn to co-exist without too much drama. I suggest that Chad's cats stay separate in one room for quite a while. Your cats will smell their existence under the door. They are all used to having their own domain so this will be an adjustment for everybody. I hope things will eventually improve between Chad and Dean now that there isn't such distance to help maintain the divide. Like you said, life is too short. The sooner they realize that, the better.

My leg is definitely not broken as I can walk around on it fine, especially in the morning before the edema builds up. Besides my usual edema, this injured leg still has swelling and as the day goes on and I'm using it, the swelling in that leg increases more than my good leg. The pressure from the swelling causes that red area to be quite uncomfortable, as if something is constantly pressing on it (and it is....fluid). It's like it's stinging.

What colors did you pick out for your house? Did you agonize over it like I did when I got my house painted?

Just_Lin said...

Mary Well, you sure are doing a lot of driving lately. It takes me about two hours to get to Barb's house and I have to head straight to the bathroom when I get there.

Everything you cook sounds so good that I think if we lived near each other I might be inviting myself for dinner at your place quite often. I'd be like the female version of Max. LOL

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, I read your " female version of Max." post and laughed so hard that I had to go pee lol!! Too funny. BTW, I too have to hit the turlett when I reach my destination. On my way back from my sis the other day I had to make a pit stop (right) at the near by Casino. I figured as long as I was there I may as well gamble a bit lol! I did leave a few hundred richer, so it was worth the stop :)

SacBarb, Jim is not going to see Jennifer with me. He isn't too big on shows. I didn't buy expensive tickets this time. I purposely bought a seat way back on the outside isle. I have bought seats like that before and just before the show starts, if there are any seats open in the expensive section, they ask you if you want to move there. I have never turned them down lol!

Dianne,I bet you were a lot of fun back in the day lol, so was I, but I may have had one tequila shot too many a few times lol!
Yes, we are lucky we are able to drive. I dread the day I have to give that up!
I agree about grudges. I think holding on to them can be toxic to our health. I forgive, but rarely forget lol!

Dianne said...

Hi...today was a bad ww day. Missed last week and that didn’t help matters. I came home and tried on my new wedding clothes hoping they still fit. Whew...they do. I had a quick lunch after ww and then went to Walmart for a few things I needed and a few things I didn’t need!

Barb, hopefully with Chad there Dean will come around. I just hate when my kids don’t get along as they are usually close. It just makes me feel bad that Todd won’t be a the wedding. Hard to keep my mouth shut but I do. How long has Desn been upset with a Chad? Is Chad living with you permanently? It sounds like you are going to have a house full for awhile. Whew lots of cats. I’d be sneezing my head off.
What color are you doing your house? Will you be all done remodeling after the painting is done? Did you ever hear anything from the city about the dog next door? You haven’t mentioned them for awhile so maybe they’re behaving.

JL, I’m with Barb. If you leg is still red and swollen you probably need to see dr. I just worry about infection and blood clots. Lol about you being Max. I think I’d be right along with you. How nice it would be to have someone not only cooking for us but all the great things Mary cooks. I’d probably have to quit ww.

Mary, I hate the idea of not driving too. I’m trying to be extra careful after my two mishaps this year. I have dentist appt to'orrow for cleaning. Knock of wood..I haven’t been there for six months. I’m joining LOUIS and my uncle for their weekly lunch tomorrow..actually I’m crashing it. How convenient to have to make a pit stop by the casino. I had to make one today half way home at Starbucks. I didn’t really want anything but felt like I needed to order something so I got a tea. Fun to see Jennifer. I love the shows everywhere I go. I guess that’s why I like to go to Branson so much. Tammy is at Rod Stewart concert tonight in her company’s box at venue. He looks like he still moves pretty good for an older guy,

I started pt yesterday for leg and back. He said he can fix me. I’m really sore today from the evaluation but I did my exercises twice today as directed. I go back tomorrow ..twice a week.

Dianne said...

Ok...I’m reminiscing back to the old days and marching right along to 100. This is 99

Dianne said...

100....here I am. Been a long while. I ordered a set of champagne glasses for Tammy and a James for wedding. She ended up getting a set at the shower and mind say mr and mrs but the fonts are completely different. Store would not take them back since they were personalized. I didn’t personalize them as that’s how they were worded when I ordered them. I sent them back to vendor today. I ended up getting them the cake cutting set instead. We did the invitations too and then they are handly everything else. Will be here before we know it.

Dianne, Yes, September is almost here! It sounds like it will be a nice party.

Dean and Chad have never been fast friends, but they tolerated each other, until January of this year when we went to my FIL's funeral. They had a huge argument when we were driving to Santa Maria and Dean was taking pictures of the sunrise while driving 75 miles per hour. It wasn't pretty! Dean was an only child for 10 years before Chad was born, so I feel there has been jealously on Dean's part since the beginning. We didn't plan on having kids that far apart. In fact, we tried, a LOT, after Dean turned one year old, but I didn't get preggers. I even went to a doctor to see what the problem was and he gave me a RX he said would help, but it didn't. By the way, I found out later the RX was a fertility drug. So, he said I may not be able to have any more babies. We started adoption process when Dean was five and it took forever. Before it got to the point of actually getting a child, I got pregnant with Chad, so we dropped the adoption. Then 2-1/2 years after Chad was born, along came Todd. My Hubby said, "OK, now you (meaning me!) got this turned on, how do we turn it off?" I had my tubes tied before I came home from the hospital with Todd! None of the boys are close to each other. They are all so different in personality it's hard to believe they grew up in the same house. I am the only thing they have in common and I suspect when I die, they probably won't even keep in touch with each other.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb. I didn't realize how far apart your sons were. I guess I am lucky that all my siblings get along. We live far apart, but remain close. The only friction we have ever had was with my youngest sister Lena. She was a very late unexpected baby. She was born 10 yrs after my youngest brother Tony jr. Must be something to do with the large birth gap. I am thinking bonding didn't happen since most of us were almost out of the house when she grew up. All is good now.

Dianne, good for you on doing your exercises! I still do my Tai Chi in the morning. I can no longer do my long walks. My knee has been getting worse. I am doing more limping and having lots of pain. I take Motrin. It helps some.

My son Matthew just got hired as a local school bus driver. He has not been able to tolerate straight 10-12 hour shifts, which is what most jobs around here expect.
They sure are thorough on their hiring process. Matt said the tests very very hard, but he aced them. Passed the drug test and FBI clearance. He seems happy about getting the job. Not high paying, but it's money!

Justlin, I was so alarmed to hear about your leg infection! I am so glad you went to the Dr! I hope you will be able to keep us posted! I will put up prayers daily for you! Love yah!

Hi....well, a lot health wise has sure been going on the last couple of days. JL, I’m sooo glad you went to see dr. You must really have a bad infection to be in hospital for ten days. Did your daughter come and get Ursela? Sure glad no cruises planned right now. You need to get well. You will now be like me at movies...no stairs. You are for sure on my daily prayer list. Do keep us updated.

Barb, that’s interesting about the age differences in your boys. Where does Todd live? We both have a Todd! It’s too bad they don’t get along but hopefully with Chad there it will change. Those darn kids of ours!! Tammy hasn’t heard from Todd since he declined her wedding. My dil didn't even come to shower and did her rsvp of no day before shower. I was hoping she’d at least come to it as it wasn’t at Andy’s and that seems to be their issue.

Mary, are you still calling dr office every Tuesday? November will be here soon but you would think they would have had one cancellation. I’m sorry your knee is so painful. I am doing my exercises and went to pt yesterday. I can barely walk after using muscles I haven’t used in a very long time. He did some massage yesterday that hurt but yet felt good but feel it today. I hope I can walk at wedding next Saturday.

Had my hair done today. She’s going to style it for me next sat for wedding. I wanted to tell you all about a young man at the grocery store yesterday. I use the driving cart and he was helping me out with the groceries and asking me about my day. I mentioned I’d been to pt and he was telling me about a knee issue he’d had in the past. He was probably 17-18. When I was getting up from cart he came over and extended his arm for me to hang onto and walked me to car door. What a nice young man. I’m going to try and get his name next time I’m there so I can let the store know what a good employee the have there. I go to a small grocery chain by my house and know the majority of cashiers. I was very impressed. It’s amazing there and Walmart also the nice young people that help me out and how polite and friendly they are to me.

Broncos won a pre-season tonight finally so that was nice. Just ordered pizza and stayed home.

Dianne, it’s so refreshing when we run across a young person with good manners. So many of the young people are not schooled in common courtesy and manners. Chad ordered a BBQ from Walmart and I had to pick it up at a store by me. His is old and he doesn't want to haul it down here. Anyway, when I went to get it, there were two men helping me to the car. It was very heavy (80 lbs) and the younger man was lifting it into the back of my car, but the box needed to be turned in order to fit. The older guy (looked about 30+) said ”just push it.” The younger started to tell him it won't fit and the older guy screamed at him and said ”just do it!” The poor young man was trying to arrange the box, and the other guy was just yelling. He finally got it in the car so that the hatch would close. The older guy stomped off leaving the younger guy to take the dolly back inside. I said to the younger guy, ”I’m sorry he yelled at you. That was very rude, but I appreciate your help.” He just said ”thanks.” I felt so badly all the way home. I had the young man's name but not the other guy. I went on Walmart’s web page and sent an email describing the incident. This was three weeks ago, and I've had no response, but I hope they at least gave the young guy an ”atta boy.”

Dianne said...

Barb, that was good you went online. The poor kid was probably embarrassed. Btw, how did you get it out of your car or is it still there? I hope I see that boy at my store again so I can fill out a comment card. You know it is so nice when I’m in a cart how many people offer to reach things for me...many people. One day a man about late 50’s offered to go around store and help me with my shopping. I politely turned him down so he proceeded to talk to me for about 20 min about a brain tumor he recovered from 26 years ago, about his wife, grandchildren, etc. He asked me again about helping me and then he said he has short term memory and if he sees me the next day he’d not remember he’d ever talked to me. He was very nice but I kind of hoped I wouldn’t see him again to here his life story. Interesting event that day.

Barb and I went to movie today and saw Crazy Rich Asians. It was a really cute funny movie. I read they are already doing or thinking about a sequel. We saw a lot of good coming attractions. I’m looking forward to the new A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper and Lady Ga Ga. It will be out in October I think.

JL, I sure hope you test good and get out sooner then you thought originally. It’s hard to just all of a sudden have to leave home with no planning like we do for a trip. Thinking and praying for you.

Mary, you’re doing great keeping everyone informed on Sue. Thank you

sacBarb said...

Dianne, My next door neighbor got the BBQ out of the car and brought it in the house for me. It will stay there until Chad gets here to put it together. Since I I have a carport instead of a closed in garage, I didn't want to leave it out there. If my neighbor wasn't home, I did wonder how long I would have to drive around with it. It was so big, it blocked the rear window completely. It was actually a little scary driving home.

Mary/MI said...

SacBarb, I think I would have told that "older" guy to cool it! He was not being a good example to his young helper. Some people forget what it was like to be young and new at a job. It can be intimidating enough without the added stress! I'm glad you were able to have someone help you get it out of your car! You didn't yell at him did you lol!!

Dianne,Yay for your Broncs! Our Lions not so good :(
How nice to have the young man help you! One of our smaller local grocery stores has a very sweet young man that not only helps, but does it with so much enthusiasm, that you can't help but smile. I miss him when he is not there.

Justlin. I have been thinking about you! I hate that you are in the hospital! I guess it's the best place for you to make sure you behave lol! I do feel better knowing you have someone to take care of you!

Our temps and humidity have been awful! We had quite a thunderstorm last night and expecting another tomorrow night.
My tomatoes are coming in faster than I can eat them lol! I sure am going to miss them when they are gone!
My Cousin's son is still in a coma with a few tiny encouraging moments. It all reminds me so much of Jim's time in the hospital. All you can do is pray and watch them struggle to survive!

Just_Lin said...

Hi, Hooters! I was discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon. The infection in my leg looks better and am now on two heavy duty oral antibiotics instead of the IV one. It sure is nice to go to the bathroom without dragging an IV pole in there with me. LOL Anyway, I'm sure hoping this gets knocked out. I have a telephone appointment with my doctor on Friday. I'm supposed to keep my leg elevated as much as possible as swelling impedes the circulation of the antibiotics to the area. They drew a line around the area a couple of days ago so we can tell if redness is shrinking or expanding.

Barb When catching up on the blog, I read your 80 pound BBQ as being 80 pounds of meat! LOL I was trying to figure out if that would be for another family reunion or what. It wasn't until I got to your next entry that I figured it out.

Mary I'm so sorry you have such a painful knee. I sure wish you could get it taken care of sooner than November. Congrats to your son for getting his new job. I bet that's a boost to his well being.

Dianne Oh, I'll probably still go up high in the theater but I will take better care in watching what I'm doing and make sure I get there earlier before the theater darkens. This particular theater was kind of weird as the steps to get to top row was not in a straight line upwards. There was a little jog to the left about half way up and I guess I didn't realize that the jog to the left was also a step upwards. That was my undoing. The fact that I was carrying a tray also didn't allow me to see that hazard properly.

Mary/MI said...

Just a quick fly-by. We are having some very bad storms going through tonight and tomorrow. The thunder is scaring poor Zoie! I picked as many tomatoes as I could just in case the rain turns to hail! I took a half a bushel to a local gal. She loves canning, me, not so much.
Tomorrow I have a DDS appointment, actually my orthodontist.a wire from my retainers has come lose.

Justlin, I am so happy you are home and on the mend! You really had me worried!
Leg up!!!

Dianne said...

Hi guys....JL, so very glad you not only went to dr but are now home. It could have been so much more dangerous if you hadn’t gone. We were all so worried about you. At least dr let you get out of bed for bathroom. So, on a other note...how was the food? My last hospital stay it was pretty good. Did your daughter have Ursela? I’m a stickler of getting to movie before it gets dark. I’m always afraid of falling and we only have a few steps to go up where we sit. Getting up from the chair at end of movie is my challenge! Anyway, keep, elevated. Darn, I wish I was closer I’d go get you some dinner.

Mary, I didn’t know you get hail too. We get it worse every summer. My uncles car was very damaged this summer and it will take 6 months before shop can even get it in right now. Did you can in your prior days? I’ll bet you did! So...this was yours and mine dental week. At least nothing awful though. I am glad your son found a job he will be able to do. Has he started yet?

Barb, I’ll bet it was scary driving home not being able to see out your window! I think,I’d asked but don’t remember, is Chad moving in permanently with you? What will he do with all his furniture, etc? I had to drive home from a dinner with Tammy and the girls last night. There is so much construction and in the dark that I didn’t feel comfortable at all.

Yesterday I picked up a lady about 30 min from here and took her to meet a mutual friend for lunch about 45 min from her house. She is 85 snd my lunch friend is 88. Neither drive very far anymore but live far from each other. We’ve done this a couple of times so they get a chance to visit. They are both very enjoyable. It was a lot of driving yesterday and then to meet Tammy too. Some of the drivers on the freeway are crazy!

Tammy is getting very stressed with last minute wedding things. I just hope Kayla is on time for everything and that the weather is nice. I have my clothes all ready for except shoes but that can be fixed. I think my sneakers might not look nice.

Dianne said...

Oh I was going to mention that I got LOUIS to go just a little earlier to Branson in November so we can see the Oak Ridge Boys. We will see Frankie Avalon, Tony Orlando and my favorite Texas Tenors from America’s Got Talent. I’m even a member of their fan club..actually, I think I’m a groupie. We have lots of shows reserved and they will be half regular show and half Christmas show. I can’t wait!

Dianne said...

Two days until the big wedding. I’m hoping for good weather and that everything goes as planned. Get my nails done tomorrow and hair styled sat am. We have rehearsal tomorrow night and wedding us at 1.

JL, keep getting better each day. So glad you’re on road to recovery.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I giggled at the visual of you wearing tennis shoes to Tammy’s wedding. My hubby was a big country music fan, and whenever he played the Oakridge boys album, Chad would sing along. He would sing, “come on in, baby take youe clothes off” and we would crack up! Yes, the plan is for Chad to move in permanently. He is going to get rid of most of his furniture. He is only bringing his bedroom set and the table and chairs that I grew up with. I will get rid of some of my stuff.

sacBarb said...

Dianne 2, I took all the surface streets when I drove home with the BBQ. It was only about 10-15 minutes from home, but it was a little scary.

sacBarb said...

J/L, 80 lbs of meat would feed a LOT of people. I can’t imagine cooking that much meat. The BBQ is also a smoker and Chad pland to smoke some ribs for one of his first meals.
I’m so glad your leg is healing. Hopefully there will be no after affects.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I wish I lived closer so I could get some tomatoes from you. There’s nothing like home grown tomatoes. The ones from the store hardly have any taste.

Dianne said...

Broncos won again tonight. Only preseason but interesting to see how the new guys do. Real game next week..hope we do as well.

Barb, so you’ll have a roommate after all these years. It will be an adjustment..no running around naked anymore! It will probably be nice to have the company and someone to cook too! Will he go to movies with you? We will see how long I keep the shoes on at the wedding. It’s not like I’ll be on the dance floor doing the Cupid Shuffle!

I find I’m not very comfortable driving at night like I used to be and I sure don’t like it. It’s not like I’m out at night alone that often but I do meet my niece or the girls from time to time. I just don’t like the fact of not being able to do the things i used to do.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I will be glad to have someone here now. The older I get, the more concerned I am about something happening to me and being here alone. No one would find me for days, possibly longer! This way we are helping each other out. He said he would pay 'rent' and he offered up an amount which surprised me. We'll see how that goes! Occasionally we go to the movies together, but we don't usually like the same movies. He doesn't like chick flicks. We went to see Deadpool when he was here and I also saw a Star Wars movie with him.

sacBarb said...

Sharon is looking for a new car and I went car shopping with her. We went to Honda, she already has a Honda CRV, and then we went to Subaru. She drove a Forester and an Outback. Both were very nice cars. The Forester is a little smaller than the Outback, but they both drive very smoothly and have a lot of safety features the Honda doesn't have and she ended up buying the Forester. It has a lot of bells and whistles like something called eye sight, that tracks the car in front and will keep a distance you set. It will also stop automatically if the car in front stops suddenly.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I saw on the news that bad storms were brewing back there. I hope it wasn't to bad for you. Did you have to drive in the storm to go to the dentist? I sure wish I could have rescued some of your tomatoes for you. I love homegrown "real" tomatoes. As a teenager, I would gladly sit down with a tomato and the salt shaker and eat it as a snack. My preferred way to eat cottage cheese is to have it with slices of tomato on it.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Happy wedding day! I hope all goes perfectly.

I'm really glad to be out of the hospital. The first attempt to insert a catheter in my vein caused the vein to blow which really stung. I have a bad looking bruise there still. Then they had to put in a new catheter every day I was there, for one reason or other. Apparently, I have tricky veins as they are tiny and mostly either have a slight curve in them or branch off with not enough straight vein to put a straight object such as a catheter. Oh, and they were giving me injections in the abdomen to prevent blood clots. That sounds worse than it was. I had a telephone appointment with my personal doctor yesterday and I sent her photos of how my leg is looking now. Since there is a small area in the middle of the discoloration that still feels warm to the touch, she extended my antibiotics for another 7 days. I bet this was all more info than you wanted. LOL

Just_Lin said...

Barb Being alone and older is kind of tricky. Lani and I were always good about being in touch every day. I worry about my dog being here if I don't wake up so I make sure there is a full water bowl when I go to bed. It would take a couple of days before anybody noticed I was gone.

It will definitely be nice for you to have someone there who can help you around the house, too. Right now I have a small leak under my kitchen sink. There is no way with my recovering knee and shin and I can get down on my knees in order to look under there and reach the area I need to reach. My nice young neighbors across the street are away for the weekend but when they get back I'll see if Jason can do it for me.

Mary/MI said...

Hi gals!
Dianne, you looked so beautiful in your wedding outfit. I couldn't see if yo were wearing your running shoes lol! Yah for your Broncs! Our Lions won too.

SacBarb I am so glad you will be having a "roomie".I love having my son here!
Wow, that Forester sounds awesome! I love my back-up assist and the "blind spot" sensors.

Justlin,It didn't rain too bad until I got home from DDS. Today we had a dandy one. Zoie was shaking like a leaf after the loud thunder. Rained really hard too.
I cringed when you were talking about your veins! :(
I am going to miss my freash tomatoes! I have been eating them with every meal, even breakfast. Tonight Jim brought home a pizza. I put huge tomato slices and basil from my planter on the pizza. Awesome!!

I have been a bit down the last couple of days. My Niece had to make the horrible decision to have life support taken off of her son. He had been on it for almost a month with no signs of improvement. I am sure it was hard to let him go :(

sacBarb said...

Mary,I am so sorry for your niece and your family. I can't imagine having to make that kind of decision.

My car has a back-up camera and blind spot sensors also and I find them very helpful. Those options were the ones I requested when I got this car. I wouldn't mind having some of the other features found on the newer cars, but I hesitate to get a new car because my car is paid for and I really don't want to have a car payment.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Congratz to Tammy and James. You really look great in the pic with Tammy and the girls. You haven't mentioned Kayla and Em lately. How are they doing?

sacBarb said...

J/L, I hope the additional RX clears up the infection in your leg. It certainly has been a long recovery for you.

After hearing about your tuna casserole when we were texting during Paradise, I felt the urge to make one. I got all the ingredients on Thursday and made a small one yesterday and it was really good. I can't remember the last time I had tuna casserole before yesterday. The leftovers were very good today, too.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne You looked wonderful in the wedding photos. Tammy looked so lovely and happy and the girls so pretty. I'm so glad it was a good day for you all and even the weather cooperated. How did your feet do? Did you wear comfortable shoes? I had a friend who was a "no frills" kind of gal who really wanted to wear some white lacy looking tennis shoes under her wedding dress. Her mother forbade it. They were Italian and Catholic and on her wedding day she looked like a princess but not like the girl we knew.

Just_Lin said...

Mary My condolences to you and the family. I can't even imagine having to make that kind of decision.

When I have breakfast out, I usually have sliced tomatoes instead of hash browns. I wish I liked to garden but I don't. That's how I feel about yogurt, too. I wish I liked it but I just don't. There is an Afghan dish I love that is cooked chunks of pumpkin and there's a meat sauce on it and some yogurt drizzled on top. It is so good. Sweet and savory.

Just_Lin said...

Barb My casserole lasted me for 3 days and I didn't get tired of it. Speaking of tomatoes, I like to have sliced tomatoes with it and well as the peas on the side. The colors make for pretty plate.

My car doesn't have any bells and whistles besides its ability to bypass gas stations. LOL I love it and I love not having a car payment, too.

Dianne said...

Hi....well, it’s all over. It turned out so nice. Everything went as planned and the weather was perfect. It as a really fun day. I even danced in my painful shoes to a song...a fast one! I can’t walk great or breathe up there but I did it. I really miss those line dances. I tell them my heart is on the floor with them. Tammy and the girls looked so pretty. They are gone for the long weekend and then planning a cruise to Alaska in the Spring/Summer. MY son didn’t come as we knew but I’d hoped he would change his mind.

Barb, Em is in college locally and living in the dorm. She likes it so far ..the first two weeks anyway. She has a good head on her. Kayla is doing well in beauty school. She has some hours she’s making up but passed her tests last week with a 95%. She seems to like it too. She has another not so great boyfriend. We’ve never met him as he comes to nothing. He’s a few steps up from Jake-ass. He has his own place, works, isn’t running from the police, doesn’t abuse her. He takes her on no dates.,she does his laundry at her place so he won’t have to pay a laundromat. In other words, Kayla’s choices could be better..someday... I hope as she has so much to offer a decent person..a normal boyfriend (my opinion).

JL, glad your still healing and on longer drugs. Is you leg hurting? Are you still elevating? I hope so. Yum, tuna casserole sounds good to me too. We did jimmy johns tonight. All this tomato talk.. don’t like them at all unless they are cooked in things. My car has the backup camera and blind spot sensors but I still have a car payment. I’ll be keeping this car for awhile plus I like it.

Mary, so sorry for your loss. It’s so extra sad when a person is so young. My condolences to the family and you.
Please don’t send me any tomatoes! I think the others might take them though.

Thank you so much everyone for the nice compliments on the wedding photos. It’s very nice to hear.

Dianne said...

Where Are You all?

Mary/MI said...

Hi gals! Thanks for your condolences. My sis and I went to the funeral. It was quite a ways away. I have never been to an evening funeral. Her son was very young and handsome. He fell and bumped the back of his head on the bathtub. Cracked his head open. He never came to.

JustLin, my friend went on a trip and her hubby wanted to make tuna casserole. He was pretty proud of himself when it was done. He said it just didn't taste quite right.
He forgot to add the tuna lol!!

Dianne, thanks for sharing all the wedding pics. I'm so glad everything went as planned and you got to dance :) I miss dancing. Jim & I used to dance every week-end to live bands when we were dating.

SacBarb, I have 2 more years of Jeep payments. I can't wait til it's paid for! Hopefully I won't be needing a new one for a while. We have a truck and Jim's car for back up, not to mention Matthew's Jeep. All are paid for :)

We leave for Vegas in 9 days. Not sure if I mentioned that to you earlier. I am ready for a get-a-way!

Dianne said...

Oh Mary, that will be fun for you both to get away. I do remember you are going to see the show. How long will you be There? I’m m so sorry about your family loss. My cousin fell at the wedding house on some stairs and cracked the marble tile and had to be rushed Er. He didn’t go unconscious but got nine staples in his head. This was after the wedding and we had left. Terrible the way your cousin passed away. Tragic.

I’m still going to pt for my upper leg and back. She told me today that I will need a hip replacement. I’m going back to dr next Friday with a progress report from pt. She said X-rays are showing it. Well, I’ll see what dr has to say. It won’t be for awhile with my November Branson trip and our cruise in January! It was a surprise as dr hasn’t mentioned it.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I am going to need a hip replacement, too. One of the reasons I can't walk too far is because my hip starts to scream! I really am not looking forward to it. I haven't made the appointment with the ortho doc yet. I've got too much going on and don't have time to have surgery.

Mary/MI said...

Dianne and Barb, can you see me "shaking my finger" at you two!! Don't wait too long on those surgeries, you don't want the bone to deteriorate so bad that you will have worse problems!
From what I hear from friends that have had it, say it is a faster recovery then(than? lol) the knee replacements and the results are awesome.

It has cooled off a lot the last two days, after hitting the 90s on Wednesday! Back to hotter weather next week. I am enjoying the 60s :) . I have not pulled out my long pants and woollies yet lol!

Waving @ Justin ~~~~~

Just_Lin said...

Hi, Hooters! This is my first day off of antibiotics. Yay! I'm feeling good about my leg. It still has some mild discoloration from the trauma but the infection is cleared up. The skin on that area also feels tight when I walk as if it's been damaged by a burn. I expect that will clear up when the skin has a chance to rejuvenate itself.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Thanks for the gentle nudge to get back into the nest. I hadn't realized it had been a week. It's difficult to find something to write about when the focus of the day is what to eat and what to watch on TV. Come to think of it, that's my focus on most days. LOL

I'm so glad that all went so well at Tammy's wedding. Well, until your cousin fell on the steps. Yikes! I'm sorry your son didn't put aside his differences and attend his sister's wedding. That's sad but maybe it would have made things awkward and you don't want that on Tammy's special day. It sounds like Em is doing well. At least Kayla's new boyfriend isn't abusive. Maybe he's just really poor.

Just_Lin said...

Mary That is so sad about your cousin's son. Such a tragic accident. It never occurs to me that a fall inside my home could have such dire consequences.

Like you, a lot of people seem to have trouble with the use of THAN and THEN. THAN is when you are comparing things. "I like cake more THAN I like pie". THEN is declaring what will happen next. "I'll eat the cake first, THEN I'll eat the pie." LOL I have trouble with EFFECT and AFFECT and am not always sure I'm using the correct word. I bet Barb could tell me.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I've been on a roll with the comfort foods. After I'd polished off the tuna casserole, I got a all the stuff I needed to make a meat loaf and made that the other night along with mashed potatoes and peas. I had that for two nights and still have meatloaf which I will probably polish off tonight. Tuesday night I went with my friends, John and Jane, into SF to our favorite Philly Cheesesteak Shop. And I wonder why I'm not losing weight. LOL

On the 23rd my daughter and I have tickets to see Phantom of the Opera. I've never seen it and am really looking forward to it. I just booked my flights to go see my brother for Thanksgiving. At least it won't be too hot in SoCal then.

Mary/MI said...

Justlin, I can't believe you haven't seen "Phantom". I have seen it in Vegas twice and once here in Michigan.
I can't wait to see J-LO in Vegas.
I made meatloaf tonight with mashed taters, baked beans and corn bread muffins. It hit the spot on this chilly day.

Dianne, I see your Broncos won. Lions play tomorrow. I mis spoke myself when I said they won last week :(

SacBarb,I'm curious, how did you like "Deadpool?" Doesn't sound like anything I would like lol! I'm more into Mr Rogers type ha ha!!

Mary/MI said...

Bur-r-r-r! I had to pull out my sweats tonight! We get at least one more week of 80s next week before the Autumn weather sets in :(
We had our monthly VFW Auxiliary meeting tonight. I grudgingly excepted the Secretary position. I swore after doing the 6 yr "part time" Treas. position I would not do it again! Oh well, it is a small post. What I am not fond of is the out of town meetings/conventions & inspections. They assured me those would not be mandatory. We shall see.

I hope you are all doing well.....

Dianne said...

Well Mary, sounds like you’ll be keeping out of trouble with your new job. I used to volunteer a lot when I first retired but after a few years I got kind of tired of it. Maybe there will be a convention in Denver you can come to. I’m sorry to say I think your lions lost tonight and I was cheering for them. I think the raiders lost too. I was kind of off and on watching the game.

Don’t get mad Barb but I wasn’t cheering for them. They are too close to our team to beat us out of a good spot one day.
Barb, how do you like your new coach? We’re still up in the air about ours from last year. If we don’t perform this year, he’ll be gone I’m sure.

It was 93 here today and supposed to be like that all week. Our tree colors are changing early because of our drought so hopefully LOUIS and I can get up in the mountains next week. No sweats here, Mary. I’m so hot blooded that I never wear them.

JL, yes at least Kayla’s boyfriend is notvadusive but I think he’s really cheap. He does nothing for her...she needs a decent normal guy if she thinks she needs a boyfriend. I’d like to see her be on her own. You’re probably exactly right that it was better Todd and family didn’t come to wedding. I would have hated for any drama. Btw, I’ve never seen Phantom either.

Dianne said...

Well, today was a mixed bag day. Had lunch with a close friend and then found out some not nice things that were said at the wedding by my other friends husband. Rude things. Feel, very betrayed, hurt and pissed all rolled into one. I’m supposedly good friends with this person but no longer. Have you ever known someone that makes a rude comment and then laughs because he thinks he’s funny? Well, it won’t happen again. I’m not a confrontatious or mean person but you have to draw the line somewhere. Anyway...just venting as I don’t even want to tell LOUIS too much because the person was rude about him too...not known to LOUIS obviously. I’ll go to bed now with you all thinking I’m crazy ....night!

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, you have every right to feel that way! In my old age, I no longer have room for negative people. They can really bring you down!
I can't even imagine anyone saying anything bad about either of you! Let me at em! LOL!

I had lunch with some of my old co workers today. It was at a place that served BBQ stuff. It was really good. The only problem was that it was in
"Old Town" , Lansing. Street parking only. I drove around for a while trying to find a spot. I found one right across from the place, but had to parallel park in a busy tight traffic street.

I have not packed a thing yet. I love using the packing cubes I got from Amazon. Everything is so much neater and easier to find. Jim has a set too.

Dianne said...

Hi all...Mary, it is hard to think at our ages someone is rude that ”likes you”. I agree with you about negative people in our lives. Glad you had a nice lunch but I’m kind of picky about parking too. I don’t go to our towns old town just for that reason. When do you leave? Do those pa king cubes make your clothes wrinkled? I don’t exactly know how they work. How is Jim feeling? I’ll bet he’s glad you’re going with him this time. Have a fun time. How many days?

We have been breaking records this week with high temps. Too hot for me! Just got home from a pedicure. I love to go for them. Not much else...went to ww and finally had a decent loss...finally!

Mary/MI said...

Dianne, Yay on your ww loss!
We leave this Sunday and come back Friday. I love the cubes because I can separate undies, tops, bottoms and put the whole things in the room dresser drawers. They come with a laundry bag too. It is a very neat way to pack and my clothes are not wrinkled.
Jim is still improving although he does seem to have some "senior" moments lol.
I am still not trusting his driving. Thar aneurysm on his aorta still makes me nervous! He is definitely glad I am going with him.

Mary My daughter bought a set of packing cubes quite a while back but doesn't really use them. I think she didn't find them that helpful for her. We are creatures of habit and when we pack we know exactly where we we put what. On short trips, I live out of the suitcase except for those things I need to hang.

Speaking of trips.....My daughter is leaving tomorrow for Wisconsin for a business trip and I will be pet sitting her two dogs. This makes for a very crowded bed at night. I will have to keep my eye on them whenever they go out back as I have a section of fence down. There is some sparse foliage there but they could run through it easily enough. It only goes to the next yard but I wouldn't want them to go there. My dog totally respects her boundaries. There's a new cat in the neighborhood who keeps coming here to try and grab a bird and this may end up being a problem with the dogs. I'll just have to keep my eyes open for it before I let dogs out which I do anyway.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Well, it has definitely not been too hot here. Lately I've been putting a blanket throw over me when I sit on the sofa to watch TV. The problem with that is that I get so cozy that I am tempted to nod off instead of watching my show.

I'm sorry your friend's husband said something hurtful. Apparently, he thought he was making a joke. I'm also kind of wondering what your other friend's motivation was for even mentioning it to you. Are those people really close to you or just someone you sometimes see at group events? It will be awkward for you now.

Congrats on your weight loss. A few days ago I was dressed in the exact same thing I wore the day I went into the hospital so I got on my doctor scale and found I weighed 9 lbs less than I did that day at the doctor's office. I attribute that to not having so much swelling in the injured leg and me no longer having a little ice cream at night. That had become a very bad habit.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Where for art thou? I will be looking forward to rooting for Grocery Store Joe on DWTS. I saw the cast on some show the other day and I must say Joe looked totally uncomfortable. This is going to be a real stretch for him. He's not at all the kind of guy that wants to be in the spotlight.

I've booked my flights to go visit my brother for Thanksgiving. I'll just be there for a week as he doesn't have any more knees that need to be operated on so I won't be a caretaker this time. LOL

Mary/MI said...

Just a quick fly-by. I am typing v-e-r-y carefully after doing my nails lol!
I am all packed except for a few things.
I have not said anything on FB because Matthew prefers it that way. He will be in & out with his job and training. I will put out pics & comments about it when I get back.

I am pooped so need to take Zoie out and head to bed.
Have a great week all!

Dianne said...

Mary, have a great time tomorrow on your trip and enjoy the show too. I hope you and Jim win tons of bucks! I ordered some cubes last night from amazon so I will have to see if they work for me. I hope so, although, I too live out if my suitcase except on cruises. Our Branson trip in November is a little longer than a week so maybe I’ll try the cubes.

JL, great losing 9 pounds. That’s a lot and you haven’t even been able to go walking. I wish I could lose 9. I m just so up and down! There is a Bronco on DWTS so I’ll be cheering for him...or course. Now about my friends....the one who told me is a very close friend for years. The person that was rude is a pretty good friend but his wife and I go back 40 years. It’s going to be very awkward and I’ll see that guy at a bronco gathering tomorrow. I feel like I’m ready for him if he is one ounce rude and it’s so hard for me. It’s not far until his bday and I’m good about sending cards. I found one that said birthdays mature like trees and then inside it said I hope your nuts fall off. I had it in my cart but then my conscience (darn it) got the best of me and I put it back and got none. It will be fun to go see your brother and just have some fun this time. Don’t let all those dogs bump your leg..be careful.

Barb, how is the painting Going? Did they start today? Tomorrow is a big game between our teams. It’s a home game for us and a huge rivalry so if you don’t mind....we’d like to win, please.

Barb and I went to movie tonight to see Simple Favor with Blake Lively. We liked it. It’s a pretty strange movie and it was suspenseful and funny. We went out for some Mexican food afterwards. LOUIS and I sat down and looked at excursions for our Hawaii trip as we’re meeting with travel agent Monday. We planned our drive there too. We are going to add a day to go thru Phoenix to see Kathy. I’ll just be hoping for decent weather in November and January for these two trips. .

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I thought that birthday card was hysterical. You should get it for him. You could always write a note in it that you thought it would appeal to his sense of humor.

Dianne said...

That’s a good idea JL. LOUIS said it’s not like me. I feel like the devil is on one shoulder and my guardian angel on the other having an argument with me lol

sacBarb said...

Dianne, That card is hilarious. I actually chuckled out loud and got a strange look from my cat. It is awkward when you hear that a friend has said something negative about you. I have a tendency to just ignore people after something like that happens. I don’t like to confront people, unless what they said is really bad!

After having season tickets to shows, I can’t believe you’ve never seen Phantom. I think you would like it. It’s one of my favorites.

sacBarb said...

J/L, I laughed at the visual of all the dogs on your bed and you on the edge. I think you will like Phantom. I love the music. I agree about Joe on DWTS. I’m surprised he agreed to do it. I’ll be cheering for him, though. I am very happy with the paint job. I decided to do all the rooms the same color with off white trim. While they were here painting, I spent the whole day in the family room reading and doing some paperwork. The room was packed with stuff from other rooms to facilitate the painting. Walking around it was like going through a maze. At one point, when they were almost done, the head guy called me to go look at the job and tell him if It was OK. I got up and tripped on one of the rolled up area rugs, and fell flat on my face. I felt like the old lady in the commercial who couldn’t get up. I have a huge bruise on my arm and my big toe. I was just glad none of the guys saw me sprawled out on the floor.

sacBarb said...

Mary, I hope you are having fun in LV. I would like to see JLo. I heard from a friend that she puts on a great show. I hope you win lots of $$$.

Dianne said...

Oh no Barb...you fell? Oh gosh you could have been hurt so bad and it sounds like you are hurt! That falling is all our nightmares. I wouldn’t have been able to get up. I’m Glad your face is okay. Did your helper get everything back in place today? I’ll bet that is a huge job. No, I don’t do well confronting someone either. He said rude thing about Kayla and LOUIS. I could deal with it if it was about me but don’t mess with family! Pisses me off still. So Barb, would you send that card?

Ok Mary....lots of $$ yet?

JL, how are you doing with all the dogs? You’re keeping you leg elevated still, aren’t you? We went to travel agent today to book excursions for January and some were already sold out! It’s hard because I have to have accessible and some were not available. We had to work around it. The excursions in Hilo are very limited because of all the volcano problems. I guess we should have booked them sooner butvtravel agent said by end of September. Oh well.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I am very sore today so I asked Michelle not to come over. We will start tomorrow. It will probably take us all week to get it all put back. There is a lot of stuff to put back into seven rooms. Someone from Lowe's is coming over on Wednesday to measure all the windows. The cats have broken some of the cheap plastic blinds because they like to look out of the windows. Now I leave the blinds up about 3-4" but they had already broken some of the horizontal slats before I decided to do that. So, I am getting new wooden ones. I thought I was just going to leave the old ones on, but I decided they look too tacky. At least I won't have to move anything to have them put up, so I can get everything moved back. I'm getting rid of the spare bedroom furniture, because Chad is bringing his bedroom set with him. When I fell, I didn't actually hurt my face, but my arm and big toe hurt and I have a huge bruise on both. I'm sure nothing is broken, though.

I'm watching the Emmys and I haven't heard of more than half of the shows nominated. It's not as much fun to watch when I'm not familiar with all the shows.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Oh, I'm so sorry that you fell. I hope you are a lot less sore today. I'm still dealing with the aftermath of my stupid fall. I didn't used to worry about falling but now that I see what complications can arise, it does make it scarier.

I watched the Emnmys, too. What it does for me is make me wish that I was getting Netflix. There are a lot of shows on there that I would enjoy seeing. Maybe I should go on a binge while they are having 7 days free. I already get HBO, Showtime, and Amazon Prime so there are certainly plenty of shows that I do see.

Everything has been going well with the dogs until yesterday when I had a knock on the door and my neighbor told me that my dogs were in his backyard. The only one not over there was the chihuahua. All this time my dog has never pushed through the bushes to go to their yard but Sookie did so Ursula followed. Now I have to keep an eagle eye on them whenever I let them out to do their business.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Are you winning money? I can't remember if you said you'd been to the Mob Museum there in Vegas. Barb and Lynn and I considered going but we ran out of time. It looks like that would take up most of a day as it is quite large. I'd still like to see it. Maybe there is a Vegas trip in my future.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Half of my 9 lb weight loss was due to swelling from the injury. I still have swelling in that leg. I think it's going to take a long time to get back to normal. Tripping on some steps sure turned into a big, stupid deal.

The "Simple Favor" movie looks good in the trailers. I'd also like to see "Life Itself".

Mary/MI said...

Hi gals! I am almost back to my normal time zone sleep patterns!
I hate to admit this, but I was not to thrilled with JLO's show. She was 1/2 hour late. I know that may not seem like a long time as stars go, but the show was already scheduled to start at 9pm. She spent a lot of time talking. She is trying too hard to be a "Madonna". She did a very raunchy slithering, legs spread very wide on a chaise lounge. I actually left before it was over. I guess I am getting too old for crotch shots lol!!!
I took a taxi to the Casino where it was held because it was way too far to walk. The taxie guy could have just driven up the strip, but took some longer back streets. I told him I didn't appreciate it. He spoke very broken English and told me there was too much construction. I told him there was NO construction on the strip. That pissed him off and he said "Well, you could have told me which way you wanted to go! Gah!!
I told him that being I was a woman & alone, he should have figured out that I would be a bit frightened going his his route! I got out and threw the money at him and gave him my "talk to my hand" gesture lol!! I called Uber to take me back. He went right down the strip and was $5 dollars cheaper.
I didn't gamble much the first few days. I just kind of kept an eye on Jim. He was out of breath a lot. He is back to smoking! I am so disappointed! Not much I can do. At least he is not (yet) smoking in the house!
My last night there I won $800.00 playing slots (video poker), and a table game "Let it Ride". Si I did't come home broke lol!

I am with you gals on the "falling" thing! I thought I was a very careful person, but one fall can really mess you up! I will no longer lift anything too heavy either! My neck is still hurting from lifting the air-conditioner this last spring. I have finally decided to make an appointment with my Dr.
I just got all of my paperwork for my Nove.14 knee surgery in the mail. I can tell they are being super cautious about infections. I had to get per-surgery stuff from the pharmacy such as nose antibiotic ointment, bath body soap, vitamin C, & Magnesium pills. Kind of making me nervous!

I will be doing my reg Halloween Party gig at the American Legion Post on Oct.27. I am sure that will be it for this year. Not sure about NYE.

JustLin, I have not been to the Mob Museum.
SacBarb, Barb, Sorry you are still sore. btw, I love my wooden blinds.
Dianne, Sorry about your Broncs :(

Dianne said...

Hi...Mary, that’s interesting about J-Lo. I’m not too crazy about her. Hope your ticket wasn’t outrageous. I’m more of a Barry Manilow kind of gal. I think it sounds like Uber is the way to go. We have a guy that Tammy uses in Vegas...next time I’ll give you his name and number. You made a few bucks for sure on your trip. If I win $100, I’m thrilled but I don’t play max. I’m so disappointed (as I know you are) to hear Jim is smoking again. Darn It! Just put that foot down about smoking in the house. He was doing so good too. Well, it’s almost time for your new knee. It seemed so far away and now it’s around the corner. I’ll bet you’ll be so glad to get this over with finally. It’s good they are being so cautious. Any idea how long in the hospital? Thanks for the Bronco sympathy. We were really excited to see you beat the Patriots!

JL, how your leg doing? How did all the dogs do with you. Hope they stayed in your yard. How was your daughters trip? Id like to see that movie too. There are a couple of good movies coming out. I’m looking forward to A Star Is Born.

Barb, how are you feeling from your fall? House back in order yet? I’m sure that’s a huge job. We’re just getting carpet cleaned this week and LOUIS is complaining about moving things.

We went to the boys football games most of the day Saturday. It was a long hot day in the 90’s. We hadn’t been to any yet this season. Saturday night took louis out for his birthday dinner. We went to my friends granddaughters first bday yesterday. She’s adorable but has medical issues. Her intestines were outside her body at birth and they simply can’t get them to start working again. Usually with this kind of thing they work when surgery puts them where they are suppose to be but not with little Abby. It’s a struggle.

We are maybe having some fall tomorrow. I hope so. News showed a few snow flakes in the mountains today but still 80 here today and I’m good with that...no snow here.

I am too lazy to scroll or hunt one of you down on FB,LOL! Can someone tell me where to donate to Mateo? I have cut back a lot on donations, but Mateo is a special case for me.
I believe it was either Barb or Linda. Thanks in advance :)

Dianne said...

It’s linda but I can’t remember

Just_Lin said...

Mary It is me. Matteo is my son's girlfriend's boy. He is like a stepson as they have been a family living together for years. Matteo is the boy I talked about here who had a kidney transplant a few months ago. it's been a tough road health wise, financially, and emotionally for all.

Mary/MI said...

Thanks JustLin, I donated, but It didn't show that I did. I almost re-did it. I feel so bad for Mateo and his family. Our children, no matter their age, are precious to us and we hurt when they hurt!

We had a really nice cool day today. The cold front is heading our way :(

My son came home a bit "ruffled" today. He drove the school bus solo today. He did have a retired bus driver ride with him a couple of times. He doesn't mind the High
school kids The little ones left him rattled lol! So much drama, screaming, tattling, banging on windows etc. He has to stop the bus whenever there is an incident, check it out, and write a report. There are cameras there to make sure he does his job.
It makes their trip longer than necessary.
I went up to his room tonight. He was deep into making a clear route on paper that could guide him easily. It was hard checking the smaller diagram he had, while constantly being distracted! This is a country route.
I personally don't think 4 & 5 year olds should ride the bus without at least one parent to supervise.
I am sure Matthew will do better as he mentally learns the route.
I see why school bus drivers are in demand around here lol!!

170. Made it! I went to ww but didn’t weigh. I went to dr and weighed and decided to skip that gain at ww. I’ve been having a bad ache in my chest above heart down my rib cage. Be had it since sat night snd I really hurts. Dr said i probably pulled a muscle with all my coughing. Gave me an ekg and had to go for chest X-ray. Ekg was fine and haven’t heard on X-ray. Im back on prednisone for this cough. I go to pulmonary on oct 15 and hopefully he can check it out. It’s been kind of scaring me (the pain).

Mary, I agree with you about 4-5 year olds needing some supervision on the bus. I’m sure Matthew will do fine after learning the route. It would be hard to remember, I think, especially on country roads. We had a nice day up to 81 today and it was perfect out. Our weather is supposed to stay nice through the weekend so we’re not sending that cold front.

We had our carpet cleaned today. It’s been quite awhile so needed it. M glad I wasn’t here for that whole thing. Lots of things moved around. That’s my thrilling day.

Dianne said...

Hi....it’s always so quiet in here anymore. I’m here. I just have too much time on my hands. Not much new here. Still have the heart ache. I think it’s alittle better from time to time. It was nice in the high 50’s today and sunny. Perfect weather. Back up to 90 tomorrow. At least no football games to sit out in hot sun this weekend. Meeting some friends for breakfast tomorrow and hoping to get some desk work done this weekend. I continue to put it off.

How are you guys doing? Miss you all

Mary/MI said...

I'm here Dianne! I have had a few Drs appointments. I have 2 next week. One for my neck and DDS. I need to get things done before my surgery in Nove. I had my eyes checked this week. I am making all kinds of lists! I should do some Christmas shopping too.
I am going to a 50th B-day in a few minutes. I am not in the mood to dress up. It's not a fancy thing, but does require getting out of my sweats & combing my hair lol!

Matthew said all went well on his bus route Fri. He even had a kid tell him he is the best driver ever lol! That made his day! He was warned that a couple little ones may try to hide to get out of going to school. He counted heads when arriving at school. He said " I see I am missing a couple", as a couple of little heads peaked up behind their seats lol!
It is chilly here today. My first official long pants day has arrived :(

Just_Lin said...

Mary I remember a story about a little kid being locked in a school bus all day. Maybe Matthew should have a clipboard and a list to keep track of who gets on and who gets off. Maybe hand out stars to those who don't misbehave during the week. If I was him, I'd come home with a massive headache every day and I very rarely get headaches. LOL

It sounds like you will be in tip-top shape by the time you have your knee surgery. It's smart of you to get all the other body maintenance done by then. I think I'll pop in and get a flu shot this week.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne My life has been very boring. I took my dog for a walk the other day for the first time since hurting my leg. I'm much more careful about watching out for uneven sidewalks and other walking hazards than I used to be. Does that mean I'm officially old? My leg still isn't really normal and I'm feeling impatient about it.

Well, I know it's fall here because my redwood tree is shedding all over the place, including all over the deck. I think I will try and sweep that up today.

I hope your cough is better. I have an allergy/asthma cough that annoys me in spring and fall. It's just a light cough, though, not one that could pull a muscle but I've had bronchitis coughs that have hurt me.

Just_Lin said...

Barb What's up? Is your house back to normal, yet? How are the kitties taking all this upheaval?

I don't remember if I told you that there is a new neighborhood cat who keeps coming here to try and catch a bird off my deck. I saw him get two birds so I've moved the birdseed holders farther away from the deck steps. Now by the time he springs up onto the deck, the birds have a chance to get away. He's failed so many times now that he doesn't show up very often anymore.

I was really lazy yesterday and sat around with my leg up, watching things I've recorded on tv during the week. I'm enjoying having Murphy Brown back, again.

Dianne said...

Hi...well, our Rockies lost today so another game tomorrow. Broncos are playing tonight. Tough games today. We are having fall in the 60’s and it’s perfect out. Weather saying maybe 40’s a couple of days next week. I just want no Snow!

Well, our cruise in January changed today. We were driving to Long Beach to go on the cruise but figured all the cost of driving and checked with travel agent on cost to fly in a day early. Princess has a great deal for first class airfare and hotel combo plus all the transfers. It was $400 approx less than driving plus won’t have to deal with the possibility of driving in the snow so we booked it. Even travel agent was surprised of the lower cost of air package. I’m a little nervous as we haven’t been on a plane for awhile but excited too. It’s so nice having AAA agent figure it all out. We are still doing our driving trip to Branson for Thanksgiving and hope for good weather. Now I have to cancel all the January hotels. Ugh

JL..I don’t think it makes you old being careful. My 41 year old friend just fell and broke her leg so it pays to be careful. I sometimes worry I’m going to crash into something looking down all the time. I hope your leg gets better. It’s sure taking its time. My cough is much better but I still have my chest ache but not as bad. Still doing some pt too. Now you know I am old! Barb and I are going to see A Star Is Born on Sunday. I recd my Christmas cards that I ordered in mail today. I kidded Louis that I was going to send them out tomorrow. I think he half way believed me.

Barb, sure missing you. How are things going with the house? I think your son Chad moves in this week, right? You have sure had a lot going on lately.

Mary, great that you’re getting all your things done now. You will be as good as new by Christmas. I agree with you to get some of your shopping done now. I do so much online since I can’t really get around all the stores. I’m trying to cut back this year with Louis not working anymore. We will see how I do...so far not too great.

Dianne said...

Whew....sorry I wrote so much! Guess I’m extra chatty tonight ...as usual.

Quick fly by on my way to bed.
It was a nice warm day today. Late afternoon the temps went way up and at 12:30 am it is 76* Quite odd. We are expecting a bad storm during the night. Zoie gets all nervous with the loud thunder. Last week I had to hold her in the middle of the night until she calmed down.

I am getting my ears checked tomorrow. I hope they can give me a hearing aide that actually works, especially after paying so much!

I made a bunch of apple turnovers tonight with a new recipe. It was way more work lol!
I just took them out of the oven and can now get some sleep.
Later!

Hi.....seems like there are baseball games on every day and night in this house. I think the playoffs last too long....boring to me...rather watch football

Mary, we’re really having nice weather too but expecting in the 60’s with rain the next few days. That’s ok....ready for cooler weather. Yum, I wish had one of your turnovers right now...midnight snack. Hope all works out at the ear dr tomorrow. Do you have your shopping started as you had mentioned previously?

It not much here...going back to pt for two more approved sessions.

Hello Ladies. I am taking some time out to catch up with all the posts I have missed. Arch and his brother Dennis arrived from Seattle about 8:00pm,Sunday, with the truck full of stuff from their apartment and Chad and his friend Joanne arrived, with the cats, about 1:30am, Monday. Chad and Jo got a late start, but he said Jo had to stop every five minutes. I'm sure that's a huge exaggeration! Chad does that a lot. Anyway, we are in the process of getting all of their stuff and the rest of my stuff put away. All of Arch's stuff, except his clothes and personal items, was offloaded into his Mom's garage. Right now she has six people living with her and soon (hopefully) her granddaughter and fiance will be moving out and Arch will move in with her.

We have not introduced their three cats to my two cats, yet. They were very traumatized by the 20 hour drive in their carriers, so they have been closed up in Arch's bedroom since Sunday. They have just finally come out from under the bed (except to eat and use the litter box) today. We are planning on doing a gradual intro and are hoping it goes well. My cats definitely knows something is up in that bedroom with the door closed.

My upright freezer died after almost 30 years and I got a new one from Costco online. They have free delivery and will take away the old one. It will be delivered tomorrow, so in the middle of all the other stuff we are doing, we have to get stuff out of the laundry room to make room for them to take out the old and put in the new!

Tuesday night Chad, Arch and I took Dennis, Jo, and Arch's Mom to Red Lobster for dinner to thank everyone for all their help. Jo helped Chad with the driving and the cats, and he paid for her flight back to Seattle, also. The service was extremely slow and the food wasn't as good as usual, except for the cheesy biscuits, imo. I was disappointed.

And finally,I am really tired!!!!! LOL

Sorry I wrote a novel.

Mary/MI said...

Barb, good hearing from you. You can write a novel anytime :) I feel sad that we (owls) have not gotten together in a while. This blog helps a bit, so keep posting!
Man, it sure looks like you have had a houseful! Let's hope the fur-babies get along!
I can't remember the last time I was a Red Lobster. Jim isn't much for going to restaurants too far from home. I get my eating out fix when I meet up with my old work friends.

My hearing test went as I expected. I have had a considerate hearing loss in the last 5 years. Hearing aids have improved, I hear < pun intended lol.
Anyway she fitted me with a new set. So far they are very irritating. The sounds, not the hearing aides themselves. They are actually comfortable. The last ones weren't.
I can adjust them from my iphone's blue tooth. I can have my phone calls come through them too. There is a place to adjust for movie theaters also. I have to read the manual.
I am trying them for a week to see if I want to keep them.

Dianne. Jim has been glued to the tv here. It keeps him out of my hair lol! Keep up that PT.
I haven't started shopping yet. I have too busy with Dr appts!

Justlin, did you get your flu shot? I think I still have to get my shingle booster shot.
Matthew does have a clipboard with the stops and the names of the kids. If they act up he stops the bus and makes them sit towards the front. He made me laugh the other day. He said, I have never raised my voice to them. I wasn't told not to, I just don't."
He does have an intercom/speaker, he uses to make them sit. He has the longest route of all the bus drivers. It would be so much easier if he didn't have to stop every 200ft! He can't believe the older kids can't all meet in one place.

Mary/MI said...

Matthew found a secrete weapon to misbehaving kids. All he has to say is "sit/settle down or the school will call your parents!" Evidently school officials checked the bus videos and made some calls lol! He said it was his best day ever and wished he would have known about it sooner lol!

I did a bit of shopping today. I tested my hearing aids and did a lot of adjusting! I had them turned up too far. For some reason the ear tech insists I use hearing aides in both ears. I had to turn my "good ear" one waaaay down. I was having a hard time understanding the store clerks. I think I have them figured out. I hope lol!

Mary/MI said...

Helloooo, where is everyone?

Dianne said...

Hi Mary..I’m here. Just listening to some music. Not too much going on. I’m going to a ww special meeting tomorrow to try to learn to use the app better. I’m hoping not many show up so I’ll have more one on one. I watched a new show LOUIS recorded call God Friended Me. It’s on Sunday nights and was very cute. Might want to check it out for recovery time. I think it’s different each week so can miss one. I think Mary, were you Christmas shopping today or just plain old shopping? I went to grocery store and Walmart. I bought too much as usual and unfortunately found pumpkin donuts! Not good as I love anything pumpkin. Hope your new hearing aides work out for you.

Barb, lots going on at your house! Have the cats met yet? I guess 30 years is pretty darn long for a freezer to last. Did you lose any food because of it breaking? I didn’t even know Costco sold freezers. You know, Red Lobster is not my favorite but louis loves the coconut shrimp there. I like their lunches better than dinners. I personally would rather have a good Steak!

Hi JL....are you doing ok? How that leg? It’s getting colder here tonight. Going to be in the 50’s over the weekend. We’ve been having a beautiful fall week in the 70’s and sunny.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Oh, your apple turnovers sounded so good. Yesterday I emailed Jodi's mom's apple crisp recipe to a guy in Portland who went on an apple picking outing yesterday with his family. Her recipe is easy and he likes to dabble with cooking.

I hope you're able to get your hearing aids fine tuned. That's good that they are comfortable for you to wear. I know if it was me, I'd end up not using them if they weren't comfortable.

Matthew has found the secret weapon. Haha! Kind of like the old "Wait until your father gets home". In this day and age, I imagine they don't want any kid dropped off away from their home, especially on deserted country roads. Too many creepy things happen these days, unfortunately.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Well, that certainly sucks about your freezer. And right in the middle of everything else that is going on at your house now, too. I hope you didn't lose too much stuff. I only have my refrigerator freezer and I always have plenty of room in it. I'm not much for shopping too far in advance and I'm not big on defrosting meat. I live so close to the grocery store that I'd rather go there every few days or so. Besides, those trips get me out of the house and walking, even if it is in pursuit of food. LOL

That's a bummer that your meal at Red Lobster wasn't that good. A week from Monday, I'm going with my friend Kathy and her husband to Olive Garden as it is all you can eat pasta time. I, for one, can't eat more than the soup and one serving of pasta. Kathy likes the idea of getting more than one kind of pasta dish so she says it's possible to ask for small servings so you can try different ones. I may still only have one kind. We'll see.

Speaking of food..... Safeway had a digital coupon for $5 off their Plated dinners. It's like Blue Apron or one of those other "ready to prepare and cook" meal kits. Anyway, I got the Caprese Chicken one. It was all the ingredients (except for my own egg for dredging and olive oil) to make panko/parmesan encrusted chicken served over warm spinach salad. Since the chicken breasts were individually packaged, it was easy to just make one serving last night. It was kind of a production so I kind of regret haviing to do it all again tonight but it did turn out good and was tasty. They have a number of different dinners so you might have fun trying one sometime now that you have a roomie to help you eat it. Just check the bottom of the container to see what additional items may or may not be needed. At my Safeway, they were located at the edge of the produce section.

Dianne I haven't seen that new show. As it is, I have so many shows that I record and then have to catch up on. I enjoy that Will and Grace and Murphy Brown are back. I wonder how the show, The Connors, will be without Roseanne. It will be interesting to see how they deal with that and also how they manage to have Roseanne's sister there so much when Roseanne isn't there.

I just now realized that Mary asked about my flu shot and I thought it was you. LOL Anyway, I got a flu shot last week so that takes care of that for another year.

I think my friend, Jane, and I are going to go see A Star is Born sometime this week. I'll be extra careful on those auditorium steps. LOL The movie is getting wonderful reviews. Colbert interviewed Lady Gaga the other night and he was really raving about it. On Wednesday, Jane and I are going into S.F. to see the stage production, Miss Saigon. I am looking forward to it.

Well, I had an interesting day....NOT! After typing my comments here, I started feeling yucky so I thought I should put something other than coffee in my belly so I had half of a banana. I continued to not feel well so went back to bed to read. I was up shortly thereafter to vomit. Hmmm, not fun. I didn't vomit much and it seemed to have to do with some peanut butter crackers I had as a snack late last night. Although, I don't blame the Plated dinner I made, I'm really not up to cooking that again tonight. I slept until 4 this afternoon and feel pretty normal. I had some Progresso Chicken and Orzo with Lemon soup and that was comforting. Maybe later tonight I'll just make some buttery egg noodles. Noodles are a comfort food for me.

JustLin, awe sorry about your tummy! Dang I wish I could go to the movies with you! It is so boring around here! Recently it seems I only go to Dr appts. My exrays on my neck didn't show much. Something about small spurring,c3 & c7. Mild facet arthrosis is evident along the cervical spine bilaterally. no spondylolisthesis. Heck if I know! lol! Nyway, I am assuming it is ok to make an appointment with my Chiro .He may be able to help. The stiffness and pain are with me all day and night :(

I am off to bed. Please say a little prayer for Raquel's baby, Myla. She was admitted in the hospital tonight. She won't eat or drink.Something about spots on her tongue also. My sis Lena sent me a picture of her on the gurney. Her eyes were puffed from crying and looking so sad.

Just_Lin said...

Mary Oh, I feel so bad for the baby. I hope they get her well really fast. Poor little thing. It must hurt for her to eat or drink.

Dianne said...

Oh gosh Mary, hows Myla? I hope better and they found out what was wrong. It’s so hard when a baby is sick.
I’m sorry too about your pain. Constant pain is terrible. I’m still having my back ache but going to pt and my heart ache. Pt dr thinks it’s a pulled muscle. It’s a nagging ache.

JL, are you better? Oh boy...vomiting is horrible. I wonder if that chicken could have been bad? I’d be careful with the leftovers. Well, I went to see A Star Is Born and really liked it. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga were really good. Lots of people crying during the movie. I don’t often and didn’t. I must be tough! Lol. Fun that you’re going to see a show too on Wednesday. I’ve never seen that show. I’m trying to empty my freezer and pantry and will buy as needed too. I live right across the street from the grocery store. My things are jammed packed! It looks like I cook.

Hi Barb

Went to a nice dinner for Kayla’s bday last night and her boyfriend of a year finally came to something. I sat by him and he was very talkative and seemed nice. She was so happy that he came with her. She seems to be doing so much better and I’m so relieved.

Dianne, Myla was able to have chicken broth and her Moma's breast milk. We are so relieved! She is home now and looking good. She still has a ways to go to get back her feeding schedule, but we sure are happy to se her smiling again! Thanks for asking.

My Chiro is giving me a good work out. I go back tomorrow. He gave me some exercises to do at home. I sure wish I would have gone to him sooner! Sometimes I wonder about me lol!
I had a nice lunch with my old G.M. coworkers. I won't be able to go to our next luncheon . My surgery is the same day. They will only be a couple of blocks from me that day. I told them they could eat and come hold my hand lol! They are a great crew!

Matthew is so much more relaxed with his bus route. He is no longer the last driver back. He makes better time when he doesn't have to stop and speak to the kids about behaving! He even did extra hours for kids field trips today. Now that's something lol! He will sleep well tonight.

Later.....

Mary, I'm so glad Myla is home and eating. Did they figure out what caused her to not eat? I'll pray she continues to get better.

I'm glad, too, that the chiro is helping with your pain. I know how it is to be in constant pain, but for me a chiro wouldn't help. I've tried different CBD oils, but so far none of them has helped much. I really hate that I can't do that much without taking a short break. It takes so much longer to get things done. Now that Chad is here, I don't have Michelle helping me any more. I'm glad to not have to pay her anymore as she was quite expensive, although she really did a lot. I don't have to pay Chad, and he is slower than Michelle. He and Arch take video game breaks. I'm not complaining, though!

J/L, I saw on FB that you saw Miss Saigon. I saw it when it was on our season series about 10 or more years ago. The production was good, but it wasn’t one of my faves.
Now that Chad is here, he will be doing most of the cooking. I’ll mention the Safeway dinners to him, but he usually prefers to choose the ingredients rather than use a prepared ‘kit.’ He is anxious to put the new smoker/bbq together so he can use it. He hasn’t done it yet, because he got a notice that the warranty is now five years if the item is bought after September 1 and he purchased it August 15. So he is going to try to negotiate the warranty to get the longer one. Since he was in retail sales for over 17 years, he knows all the buzz words that should get it accomplished. He will be going to Walmart in the next few days to give it a try.

Dianne, we made one attempt to introduce the cats to each other and it didn’t go well so we let two days go by and we will try again tomorrow. My cats are not pleased about having intruders in their domain. At least my house is big enough for all of them to find a space where they don’t have to mingle.

I’m glad Kayla’s new boyfriend is nicer than Jake-ass. I hope she sees that she really deserves better than him!

J/L, I just wrote a long post and it disappeared. I try it again. The new freezer arrivef yesterday. The interior is smaller than the old one, but it will be OK. I didn’t lose any food because I knew it was going out, The top three shelves were still freezing up to the arrival of the new one and I didn’t keep much in there.

Hi....today’s weather was another sunny beautiful day is the 60’s...tomorrow snow and high 25. I’d like today’s weather to be everyday! I went to my friends memorial service today. It was a very nice celebration of her life.

Barb, thanks about Kayla. Ben is probably not the boyfriend I’d pick for Kayla but as I mentioned he is nice, treats her nice, has a close family, job, car and apartment. I too wish she’d see what she deserves..the best. I hope we never hear another word about Jake-ass again. He’s such bad news. Doesn’t sound like the cats are too excited about their new roommates. Hope that all works out. How nice that you’ll have someone cooking for you. I could get used to that really quick.

Mary, so glad Myla is home and doing better. I too was wondering if they figured out what caused it
Glad your dr is helping with the pain. One month from today is your big day. You’ll have to stay awake to let us know how you’re doing as I doubt Jim will be sending us messages. Is he going to be able to take care of you? So glad Matthew is enjoying his job. It sure helps!

JL...sure miss seeing your posts.

JL....did you get to see A Star Is Born yet?

Mary/MI said...

Hello!
Dianne, Jim is not nurse material! He is really just lazy lol! I will be fine. I will make sure laundry is done and a couple of meals prepared in advance. Matthew would be more help, but he will be working. At least he will have Thanksgiving vaca along with the school kids. I do have a few gal friends that will look in on me.
Jim is already planning our next Vegas vac in Dec. I'm not sure how my knee will be by then.I know I will be having therapy for a while.

SacBarb, I would love to have someone take over the meals! I get so tired of cooking everyday. I made chicken n dumplings yesterday and they suffered through hamburgers and tater tots today lol!! Tomorrow is mini home made burritos day.

I go back to the Hearing place tomorrow to discuss my feelings on using the fancy hearing aids. I can adjust them through my smart phone. Phone calls go right to the hearing aids. They can hear me through the built in microphone. I was not to crazy about them at first, but not so bad now. I can even hit a tab on my smartphone and get direct sound from my ipad and tv to my hearing aide. Pretty advanced stuff!
I am not looking forward to another bill though.
Matthew says I am no longer yelling when I talk lol!
