This Night Owl Blog has given so much! It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"! We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly. And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :) It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!

Pollyanna?
Pollyanna?
by Bon'Oregon
So many natural disasters recently, worldwide...So many of us have recently lost loved ones, or are experiencing our own health scares and traumas...the world and it's economics and politics are scary. Then there is 'the small stuff', and we know we shouldn't 'sweat the small stuff...but we do.
Just yesterday, I flushed the toilet...or tried to, but nothing happened...just a clicking sound. Water to the shower and tub, fine. Water to the sink, fine. Water to the commode, nothing. Obviously, this needed fixing, NOW! So, out to the garage to hop in the car for a trip to the hardware store...dead battery. Damn, DAMN, DAMN!!! Long story short, all's fine now, but it did make me think. It's those 'little things' that we take for granted each day, that~~if not there at the flick of a switch~~can bring our lives to a screeching halt.
This little mini-drama reminded me that I need to get in touch again with the 'Pollyanna' I used to be...glass always half-full, always mindful when making entries in my Gratitude Journal to be grateful for the bad things that DIDN'T happen on any given day.
*******************************
(stolen from the web):
The popular 1913 novel, Pollyanna, introduced the Glad Game. Its author showed how the use of the Glad Game could contribute to the mastery of stressful life events and daily hassles. The Glad Game consists of developing the habit of not dwelling on dysphoric emotions in relation to life's disappointments or threats. The player is taught NOT to deny negative emotions, but to turn one's attention away and to think of something one could feel glad about in the situation.
The title character is Pollyanna Whittier, a young orphan who goes to live in Beldingsville, Vermont, with her wealthy but dour Aunt Polly. Pollyanna's philosophy of life centers on what she calls "The Glad Game", an optimistic attitude she learned from her father. The game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation. It originated in an incident one Christmas when Pollyanna, who was hoping for a doll in the missionary barrel, found only a pair of crutches inside. Making the game up on the spot, Pollyanna's father taught her to look at the good side of things—in this case, to be glad about the crutches because "we don't need 'em!".
*********************************
Sometimes, this life really sucks! Some days, what you and I are going through together or alone seems unbearably unfair. Anyone have an anecdote or more thoughts on gratitude for the bad things that DON'T happen or that could have been so much worse? I could use a chuckle, and a reminder. Perhaps others feel the same. As I write this, Glynis just posted about (bad news) puncturing and having to replace tires, but (good news) doing so in a safe place and before any life-endangering accident..........glass half-full!!!

Damn that Zona!
WHABBEAR: Just think, if I hadn't decided to delete my comment..you wouldn't be FIRST!!! Perfect for the TOTD!! Congrats!! ;)
BON'O: Great Blog this morning!! I loved it!! :)
Good Morning Whabbear- Congrats on first. Good Morning ZonaBaby - You are up early.
I will be right back Zona. Don't go to bed just yet.
If I am all alone again in the nest I am going back to bed. It's 6:00 am here.
9 - Bear and Zona - I am waiting for you to wish me Good Morning. Let's have it.
10
GOOD MORNING TINKA!!! You aren't alone!!
Oh Good. You are here. I hope Carol cleans up the comment you didn't want to make. She did that yesterday when there were a lot of deleted comments.
TINKA: I'm sure she will. I haven't slept yet, and no matter how many times I read my comment..it didn't quite make sense. So I deleted it.
Now where did go?? You are the naughtiest little daughter always slipping out of Mama's sight. Don't you know there are bad people out there? Now stay where I can see you.
Oh I see you now hiding behind those trees. I know what you mean. When I get up early I usually just say one or two words or else when I read it back it doesn't make sense. I haven't read Bonnie's blog yet but I think I will feed my babies first so I can really concentrate.
BON'O: I don't know how many times things have happened to me that at the time really upset me...but that I found out later saved me from something so much worse. I'll think about this awhile, and make sure my post makes sense the next time I write it! ;)
I went over to e-mail and answered your letters. Did you get them?
TINKA: Please do feed Tango and Tia before they begin to gnaw on your toe like Nikki does to me!! ;)
TINKA: I'll go check now...
20 Okay, I will go and feed them. We have already been outside for our play in the backyard so they are hungry. I have no idea who the person of the day is so I will guess Donna Jean. I have no idea why. I may change that later as it is a women's prerogative but that is the first name that came to me.
Bear - Did you go back to your den and go back to sleep? It's early for you. I hope you don't have a hangover. I read your blog last from last night and it said "Whabbear -- Drunk. " That's all it said and I didn't know what it meant.
Zona - Are you going to bed now?
TINKA: I just checked the grad picture..I will go with who you choose this morning. See what a good daughter I am?? So I say it's DonnaJean too!! :)
Yes, I think I am going to go to sleep...I've been up since 11am yesterday..and I'm tired.
Hope you have a wonderful day TINKA, thank you for keeping me company!
Waving HI to EVERYONE that flys in after I hit the hay! Hope you all have an absolutely GREAT day!!
I got my stepdaughter hooked on Pollyanna it was my favorite movie when I was little.
Whabby yeah for being first.
Bonnie, I'm going to play the Glad Game all day today. My husband will probably think I'm on something!
Morning everyone! I'm still not very alert yet. Katie and I decided to break out a 500 piece puzzle last night (and the pieces are TINY)! Not only that, but it is in the SHAPE of a pug! It's the hardest puzzle I have ever done! We stayed up way too late working on it!
Whabbear! Congrats on #1! (Were you still drunk when you flew in?)!
Morning to Zona and Tink!
Morning Iteach!
Good morning Zona, Whabby (congrats on first!), Tinka and iteach!
I just got back from yard sales trying to find some cheap furniture for my college son who is moving into a house with some other guys this fall. No luck!!
I didn't sleep well at all last night so I know a nap is in my future . . .
Carol, I loved your blog today! I find that as I age (like fine wine! LOL) I worry less about the small stuff and more easily find the humor and good in the stinky stuff life can throw my way. That's the good part about getting older--see! I found something good in the midst of all this sleepless, moody, chubby peri-menopause crud. LOL!!
Bon'O: Great blog! Yes, I always loved Pollyanna too! You are so right about the blog. We do forget to be thankful for the little things and that we need to look on the bright side of a bad situation!
This couldn't have come at a better time! I was feeling sad last night as Katie showed me (actually I asked if I could see it) her Father's day gift she made for her dad. It was a little photo book of pictures of her dad and her "new" family. It had quotes about all the things she learned from her dad. Things like "family is important" (I just wanted to scream)! However, I guess his new family is important! I was feeling a pity party coming on and went to bed feeling very upset.
But, today I will think about how lucky I am that I still have Katie and that she loves me. I will also think about how lucky I am that I don't have to be with a hypocrite anymore. I am lucky to have a "do over" in my life! Even though it is lonely at times, I am grateful I am finally free to be me (as I didn't always feel I could be when I was married)!
Thanks Bon'O for putting things into perspective! You are a beautiful writer! I was happy to see your blog today!
30!
OOOPPPPSSS!! Sorry, I meant BON'O, I loved your blog today. I'm sorry!
Morning Sandie!
Hi Jennifer! Also think of what a good Mom you are that Katie can feel comfortable sharing her Dad's new family with you--that means you've done a great job of making her feel safe and loved by you and her Dad. I really commend you for that as it's a HARD thing to do when you don't have such great feelings about your ex.
Good morning!
WHAB! What the hell are you doing up at 6:00 on a Saturday morning?
Did you even go to bed?
I have no clue as to who the lovely young owl is. I will wait to see who Tina picks. I am kind of leaning towards Amicus or Jodi.
Good blog Bono. We have some stuff going on here. We have a tenant who has abandoned our house and has not paid us rent. She owes us almost $5000 and we have had to hire a lawyer to legally get her out.
Even tho she has abandoned the house (along with most of her property), we cannot do anything like change locks, move her stuff out, etc.
I have been so upset about it lately but trying to remain positive. "Things will work out" as my huz keeps telling me.
So we will wait it out and know things will be ok.
Our lawyer is great, and has gotten the ball rolling, and that is a big relief.
I will check back in a while!
Shout out to Zona, Pink, Jennifer, Iteach!
Morning Glories!
Congrats on 1st by default Whabby! LMAO!
Very interesting blog Bon as I have always maintained that it is not the big events that will drive us to the edge but the small irritations that will!
I have tried to use the glad game all my life. I have taken to using lately no matter what is going on in my life, kind of my mantra, I have a roof over my head, food in my pantry and can pay my bills! So just be happy for these embarrasment of riches.
When my car was hit in a parking lot a few weeks ago it really ticked me off but I told myself well at least it is this old car and not the new one you are thinking about buying! Plus it still runs!
IBB: You are a cutie! I definately saw the resemblence to MEK. Gee you would think you were sister!LOL
Zona: I had to laugh at your electric slide through the store yesterday. This happens to me all the damn time. Mr. Lynn D thinks it is hilarious. I do not! I have been shocked so hard that I have been known to shout son of a bitch!
Here is a trick I use. I now touch the handles of the freezers in any store with my elbows first the shock does not hurt as much there.
I maintain that it is just our electrifying personalities jumping out!
Owl for the day I am guessing Dreama!
The Santa Cruz fire is 25% contained, and it is still very hazy way out here from the smoke.
Whab is much closer to it than I am. Whab can you smell it from where you are?
Hi Lynn & Sandie!
Hi EBJ! It really stinks that renters are so protected in that way, doesn't it? I'm sure it will all work out--just takes some time--your hubby is right.
After doing another in-depth picture research project, I am guessing today's owl is Dreama, beautiful girl that she is.
Hi Lynn! Someone recently scraped my bumper in a parking lot and I was so upset when I saw it (my car is a 2006 so pretty new) but it only took me a few seconds to think to myself -- there's not a thing I can do about it so OH WELL. I just always think about how that person can sleep at night knowing they did that and not fessing up, you know?
Bonnie - I love the movie "Pollyanna" and her glad game. I watch it ever so often when I need I be reminded of its message.
I will relate my experience from yesterday. At 5:30 I couldn't get my cell phone to work. The battery wouldn't charge and it was 'dead'. I phoned the Roger's store. I told him about my problem and asked him when he was closing. He said 6:00. I told him maybe I should wait until the next day and he would have more time to look at it. He said it wouldn't take more than a few minutes to see what was wrong so I told him I would be right there. I jumped in the car, arrived at 5:45 to find a young man locking up. I told him my story and the assistant said he had already put on the alarm and could not open the store up again. I reminded him of the fact that it was 15 minutes until closing. Apparently the owner had decided to leave early and he left the assistant to lock up. I was furious and believe me I was no sweet little Tinka. I made him phone the owner and demanded that he re-open the store as I had been promised to be "looked after". He did as I asked and was told by the owner to re-open the store. The "glad" part of this story was the fact that there turned out to be nothing wrong with my cell phone. I just hadn't pushed the 'on' button hard enough. I left a little 'red faced' and embarrassed but I was glad I had my cell phone for this weekend.
By the way this is is also a
'senior moment' story.
p.s. When I got home I phoned the owner and left a message about his lack of courtesy and told him I would never set foot in his store again.
Good Morning Feathered Friends!
WHABBY..congrats on 1st.
Good Morning to ZONA, TINKA, ITEACH, JENNIFER, EBJ, and SANDIE.
BONO...Great blog. Sometimes it can be so difficult to see the glass being half full, especially when when it seems like what is left in the glass is the crap that has sunk to the bottom.
I tell myself that if everything was perfect all the time, I would be less appreciative of it. Like when a relationship ends, after the hurt I try to remind myself it is better that it ended when it did before it could have gotten even worse...and am grateful that I have the ability to be able to love and hurt.
There are so many more examples of my attempts of finding the positive, but I am too tired to continue on now. I will come back later.
The icky part is I got up to early today...the positive is that means my nap comes sooner!
I think the pic is TINA or ZONA. I KNOW it isn't WHABBY or JOEY!!!!!!!
Back after my nap
Maureen, I always see you as someone who finds the good in the bad stuff--you always handle it with humor and grace. That's what it takes!
Tinka, way to go! I think you did exactly the right thing.
Golly, I'm very "talkative" this morning. I'm kind of getting on my own nerves . . .
My last post was #40. That's a good luck sign for me today.
Good Morning Iteach, Jennifer, Sandie, East Bay J. and Lynn. A lot of owls flew in while I was typing.
Zona - Good Night my darling daughter. Sleep at least 6 hours.
Iteach - I think I will play the game today too.
Jennifer - We used to do difficult puzzles together as a family too. Those are happy memories. I remember doing one that was all small white circles on a red background. It took forever.
I so sympathize with your Father's Day story. I know how hard it is for you. I guess the 'glad' part of your story is the fact that Katie is happy. You are doing a great job with her.
East Bay J - I hope your tenant story works out for you. I have been in that situation. It is very frustrating.
Sandie - I agree. It's the tenants that have all the protection. It seems to me there should be more balance. Owners need some rights too.
Lynn - I love your attitude. You really live the glad game.
I am off to have some breakfast. Good Morning all owls who are arriving shortly.
Good Morning Maureen - You slipped in on me. I think you are a perfect example of seeing a glass as being half full. I have always admired your attitude. Have a good nap my dear. I will be back later.
Good morning Everyone!
From Area 51: Yes, jennifer it does have a happy ending. It's a really good movie.
I am off to read the blog and catch up on comments. My internet went off last night. We played scrabble and yahtzee..that was fun. It can be a nice thing when the internet goes off sometimes.
My guess for the picture is Carol. But hey, with my track record it could be Joey or Whabbear in disguise. LOL!
Congrats on 1st Whabbear!
Good morning Zona, Tinka, Iteach, Jennifer, Sandie, EBJ, LynnD, Maureen and Bebbi.

Morning Tink, Whabby, Zona, iteach, sandie, maureen, Ebj, jennifer, lynnd!
Bringing in some orange juice and breakfast burritos and diet cokes for anyone who wants some...late breakfast for me today..just got up a little while ago!
shirley, You always have the nicests breakfasts...brunches...Yum!! *grabs a biscuit* I love biscuits!! mmmmmmmmmmmm
Shirley, I will take the hashbrowns, because those are my all time favorite breakfast food.
IBB how is your garden doing?
tinka - glad your phone is fixed. I would die if I didn't have my phone for the weekend!
Shirley - I commented on your lovely breakfast and even had some but didn't say good morning! Hello and good morning to you. :)
Cup half full - as I get older, I tend to be more cup half empty. I don't know if it is a chemical imbalance or what it is. I have to purposefully remind myself of the positives rather than just always remembering them.
Iteach, that is my favorite, too! Yum.
Sandie we can't do anything, if we touch or move her stuff, or change locks, she can sue us (if she should come back) and we would have to pay her lawyers fees, her rent, etc.
We have to wait out the process, and hopefully will have our house back by the end of July. So that means another mortgage payment out of our own $$.
We have to wait til the sheriff comes and says it's ok to change locks.
It really sucks, but what can you do. If anything, it has been a good learning tool. I will never again get emotionally involved and feel sorry for someone, no matter how much they beg. It's hard for me but as the lawyer said, it's a business and you have to keep it as such.
Good morning to Mo, Shirley and Bebbi!
Oh, my huz found what he believes to be paraphanalia for growing marijuana in the garage.
Lights, fans, black plastic tarp, and shelving.
My neighbor next door called and told us that they saw the garage partitioned off with the black plastic and thought they were probably growing, too.
The funny part is that I had both her and her boyfriend sign a "zero tolerance" form before they moved in, stating the would not have drugs on the premesis!!
Well, I need to go and do laundry. I have no clean clothes for work next week! Hugs to all and I will bbl.
EBJ, we knew someone who rented out their house while they took an overseas tour and the people busted out their front picture window and put a ramp up to it to drive their motorcycles up into the house! Does that make you feel a little better? LOL!!
Good Morning Owls!
I think Lynn is right about our mystery Owl today so I'm going to agree with her guess - Dreama. :)
BonO: Great blog and an interesting topic!
I have to get back to work, but I'm looking forward to reading everyone's input later today.
Happy Saturday to all!
Good Morning Hooters Everywhere, and 'grats to Bear on (sort of) first! Start spreadin' the news...Whab's no longer a virgin!
PinkaTinka~~You bring me such a smile most mornings...ever the teacher, waiting (ruler in hand?) for the students arriving late for class :-). (btw, Carol has flown the nest for today, so won't be able to promptly do the deletes.)
Thanks to Zona, Iteach, Sandie, Jennifer, EBJ, LynnD, Tinka (lol @ " I was no sweet little Tinka"!), Mo (boy, can I relate to "seems like what is left in the glass is the crap that has sunk to the bottom.") You are an inspiration!
Shirley~~Eggs Benedict, my favorite...thank you SO much. Now, since you've visited IBB's garden this morning, will you come over and give me some tips? I need help!
(to be continued...)
62? Time to wake up and march, K'girl....and tell us how much you won last night!
I have my suspicions about today's 'Gradowlate', but am SO not good at this at all .
G'mornin', Amicus! btw, loved your picture prank!
MEK~~Thanks for the heads-up last night about the Saturday TODAY Show tribute to Tim Russert. Although I, too, watched way too much of yesterday's coverage on CNN (don't get MSNBC anymore), I thoroughly enjoyed the lighter moments of this morning's tributes...especially the humorous remembrances of Tim's shabby dressing, love of sports, and the profound Father's Day references. The only 'Glad Game' I can find in his passing is the wonderful example/legacy he leaves for his profession, fathers/sons, and the rest of us.
Congrats to NASA on "Mission Accomplished"!
I am off to the ball game. Thanks Shirley. I am grabbing my Slim Fast. See you all this afternoon.
Happy Saturday!!
GOod Morning..
Bono - Your blog is AMAZING today - One week ago today - I made a promise to myself and the memory of my friend that I would STOP taking life for granted and try to live each day to it's fullest - cuz you just NEVER know when it's going to be your last!! So far, I've done pretty good at letting the small stuff roll off..
Today, her service is being held and all of her family and friends are going to gather to remember what a wonderful person she was - and i won't be there....... I have been eating myself out of house and home (LOL) cuz that is how I deal with emotions. She would NOT be very happy with me about that - but she'll just have to deal with it.
Back to the blog - I have always enjoyed the movie Pollyanna - made you thankful for your life...
Bono - thank you again for your blog..
I hope everyone has an excellent day!! (I've gotta find something to eat!!! LMAO)..
:-)
Whabby - congrats on your "default" first!!
:-)
It's so busy this am., forgive me for not addressing everyone individually......
I'm going to go enjoy the day!!
AND - I'll be watching Tiger!!

That was for Turtle!!
:-)
OH - I wanted to say
HAPPY FLAG DAY
before I take off!!
Good Morning everyone!
I so enjoyed your blog today BON'O. It does seem like it's the "little" things that just push me right over the edge! Like carrying soup in a bowl over to the table and having it slosh out onto the floor! (that happened yesterday)Really no big deal, just get a paper towel and wipe it up. But no, I had to get all worked up over it. And it does seem like if ONE thing bad starts off our day, several others are bound to follow!
I like the idea of the "Glad Game", though. I try to just go with the flow of my life, knowing whatever will be, will be (thanks Doris, for the song) and life will turn out OK. That certainly doesn't make me a "Pollyanna" though, only seeing the good in life. I am very aware of all the sadness, injustice, and inequality happening.
Like I said above, it's the little things. I scream, curse, kick things etc., and then, when I feel I have let off enough steam, I go back to whatever "normal" is.
Oh, just a sideline about the movie Pollyanna. They filmed quite a bit of it, at least the exterior shots of the mansion, here in my town of Santa Rosa, CA. It is on McDonald Avenue, and is still beautifully kept up and a major tourist attraction to drive by.
I haven't made any breakfast yet, so, I think I will partake of Shirley's Saturday feast. May I have some Eggs Benedict, hash browns and whole wheat toast, please? Thanks so much for always serving such wonderful treats!!!
Miss Laurie hasn't woken up yet, so I think I will take this time of peace and quiet to catch up on my book, "What is the What". I haven't gotten very far into it yet.
I, too vote for Dreama as the Grad pic.
Till later my Lovely Owls & Owlettes, Peace, Donna Jean
cpgem asked me to pass this message along to everyone from our
Mary from MI
she says
"just a quick note to let everyone know we made it here in one piece!
their kebord is not like ours, so i am having trouble finding the capitals
jaimie and i walked around the city for eight hrs yesterday i cant find the numbers tab either sheesh!
we are loving the old city structures and the sidewalk cafes
tomorrow we leave for rome italy
later, mary"
glad to hear she made it safely!!
Thanks MEK and DonnaJean for the comments and further background on the Pollyanna house. That's cool!
When I Googled Pollyanna last night, searching in vain for a little video clip about the 'glad game', I was surprised to run across so many references to prestigious Psychology journals, etc. that incorporate the Pollyanna philosophy into legitimate counseling. There is, of course, the negative connotation of naivete associated with "being a Pollyanna". However, the more sophisticated application is not to ignore or diminish the disappointments and tragedies of life, but to ever TRY to move beyond them by seeing the good we take for granted daily. I think I'll always be a work in progress on that score!
Thanks MEK/Carol for the update from Mary/MI! I've been waiting patiently for my next text message, after missing my first one. Glad they're having fun!
Okay, I'm gone. More honey-do's than I can count today. Hope everyone enjoys the day!
Oh, no! Zona, your comment was fine! YOY were first, and deserve the credit!
Zona rules! :)
Meanwhile, EBJ and Tink, I was at a dinner party last night, got a little tipsy, posted said condition on the blog, got up at 6 AM to rehydrate and take a couple of aspirin, checked the nest, abused poor Zona, and went back to bed!
DonnaJean, EBJ, and J/L: There was one totally weird thing about this dinner party (aside from the fact that the hostess is dying of cancer, but that's another story). We arrived at about 7:20, almost an hour before sunset. The sun was still high above the horizon, but it was blood red, just the way it looks normally when it IS at the horizon.
The reason, of course, was the fire. There was this evil-looking huge cloud coming from the fire's direction and the sun was shining through it. Eerie!
So, the tally is two big fires in the Santa Cruz mountains already this year, and it's only June. Yikes!
Okay, who was first? Zona or Whab? Well, congrats to you both, anyway.
Shirley Thanks for another great breakfast. What would we do without you?
Jennifer What a great mom you are! (((HUGS)))
My guess for the photo...GOLDIE!!!! I think that's her smile.
Whabbear The sun must have been beautiful but spooky. It's looking like it will be a bad fire season this year, doesn't it? Custard is a volunteer wildland firefighter in Idaho and I am going to be worried sick about it when he's out there. Using the Glad Game, he used to do this as a profession in his early twenties and I know he knows what he's doing, much more so than the other volunteer firefighters. But still, shit happens. :(
Hubby recieved a rejection noticed today for a job that he interviewed for two weeks ago.
However, it is a good thing, because then we would have had to relocated to Chicago.
EBJ- I'm thinking of your situation and turning it into the glad game.
You and hubby have your health.
She is off your Christmas card list, so that saves on postage.
You have the nest to support you!
I'm off to a friend's wedding. It is a beautiful day for a wedding here too! See you all later!

Bonnie great blog. I had plumbing problems this morning. Argh!I am glad I have plumbing. i'm no good at roughing it, camping or what not.
I am just catching up with comments from yesterday after receiving e-mails wanting to know if I am OK. Yep, I am going to be fine! I have a hard head! I laughed so hard when I read Skirish's comment that I should stay away from water period. That is so true. I have bad look with car wash hoses and now showers!
EBJ
My gosh, I didn't know the law worked that way in some areas. That isn't right. I rarely lose my cool but I agree with Bebbi that people live off of hard luck stories so over the years i have learned that I am in business and must eat and pay my bills also so they must pay and be rsponsible.
Sandie, Amicus , LynnD
The photo does look a lot like me but...
Wabby
conrgats on #1 & #2. Your interior plumbing must feel relieved. ;)Sorry couldn't resist.
SacBarb had told me the fires were 15 miles from where she lives. Yikes.I hope rain comes soon to end these droughts that typically cause these fires.
Shirley
thank you as always for breakfast. You are so wonderful to us all!
Bebbi
Grat to see you again. I don't get to chat with you much at all and I so enjoy your vacation videos especially when you go to Destin & places that I used to live.
Gotta run. Made home made cookies for my Dad. It has been so long since I made cookies from scratch. My first batch turned into a pan cookie. My second batch still the cookies were too big and touched each other and looked like road maps. Next time I'm just going to a bakery.:0)
I just heard on the news that the mother of a murdered 12 year old has been charged with her murder.
The girl went missing in late January about an hour from here in Bridgewater and was found a few weeks later buried in the snow by the side of a river less than a mile from her home. Her head was smashed in. Twice her mother went on TV begging anyone with information on her missing daughter to please come forward.
How the hell does a mother do that to their child and then dump them by the side of a river like a bag of garbage? WTF??
Shirley: Glad to see you in the nest. I am writing between half-time in the Russian/Greek match!
Thank you Sandie, Tink, Bebbi, and Just_Lin for your kind remarks. (Hopefully I didn't leave anyone out)!
EBJ: So sorry to hear about that! I hope you get justice for that!
Iteach: Sorry to hear about Dean's rejection letter. But like you said, at least you can still remain in "Hickville"!
Whabby (and other CA owls): I hope the fires can be contained before long! Hopefully none of you are in it's path!
Busy day today...so I'll be back later tonight...
Have a great day everyone!
Shirley: That is horrible news! That makes my stomach turn! I agree. I do not understand what posses someone to do that to their OWN CHILD! (Or ANY child for that matter)!
This is why I rarely watch the news. It depresses me too much! I would much rather watch hunky European men in shorts and T-shirts running around, kicking a ball into a net!

Shirley I understand your anger. I saw on the news last night that a couple have been arrested for the murder of their 13 year old boy. They had tied him to a tree for two days. He was found unresponsive and could not be revived. I agree, WTF????? Some people are so cruel, they should just be put down, IMHO.
To make the guessing fair for the photo...I don't have you all on Myspace..so I created a link here. Of course I am the brunette in the middle. That's my sister on the left and on the right is my friend from Norway. We were celebrating and imported wine was flowing that particular evening!
Hi owls!! Waiting for my 2 granddaughters to come over as we are having a sleepover tonight!
Bon"o, ty for a wonderful blog! Sometimes I am good at seeing the best in everything and sometimes I am not, guess that means I am normal. Maybe a tad more positive than some.
Congrats on first, bear!!!
Hi DonnaJean - hope Laurie feels better today.
I would like to name you all to say hi but too many have already flown in!
Have a great rest of the day!!
Dreama, I will guess the pic is you. I am not at all good at this.
DonnaJean, you are not the only one without MySpace!! I don't have it either!
marching..

BINGO
I still guess that the pic is GOLDIE.
YES - that NEVER gets old!!!
golf is coming on....
Damn!!! I didn't even know a march was coming. How clueless is that? Congrats MEK!
LMAO - Just Lin - you just about snuck in there!!!
:-)
okay - I hear a nap calling my name, since Tiger doesn't tee off for another two hours..

Good Morning everyone (I just got up~)
Congrats on 1st Zona~
Whabby~ congrats on your #2~ :)~
Tinka~ YOU TELL THEM!!!! btw....GREAT guess!~ :)
Sandie~ you made me laugh "getting on your own nerves"~
Shirley~ that is so sad about the 12 yr old....to me it's the same as abortion~
DonnaJean~ how come you don't recognize your own picture?
Bono'~ great blog~ Sometimes at work I get really mad when customer after customer gets on my nerves and is really stupid! Then I step back and realize...hey...it's not them..it's me! So I change my attitude and (after just a tad bit of embarrassment) everything is just fine. When things are going bad (in my opinion anyway) I just remember other peoples woes and begin to put my own into perspective. I had a "little" problem with my kids last night, but then I started thinking about my friends kid and realized it's not so bad....that and she and another friend gave me great advise! (sandie...if it helps any....i'm now getting tired of listening to me!) :)~
i don't think that made sense....but i'm hitting publish anyway~ :D
My guess is Donna Jean!
It does look like Donna Jean, too. I'm getting so confused. :P
Good Saturday afternoon Owls. We have a very busy nest today.
Whabby: Gratz on 1st, almost. I hope the fires aren't too close to you. We had a fire about 15 miles from us, but it is under control and maybe even out by now. We are now paying the price for our dry winter.
Jennifer: It sounds like you have a great relationship relationship with your daughter. And if she has a good relationship with her 'other family' be happy that she feels comfortable enough with you to discuss it with you. That open communication is so important.
Shirley: LOL @ you are sure the pic of the day is not Joey or Whabby.
I am leaving soon to meet Sharon the Chaperone. We are going to pack a picnic and go watch Shakespeare in the park. They will be doing Twelfth Night. This is the first in a series that will be going on all summer.
MEK: I'm watching golf for a little while. My son Todd is sitting in the stands on the 18th hole. He was going to follow Phil around, but he said there were too many people around him.
Bon'O: Great blog. I usually try to be the 'glass half full' girl, but sometime I fail. However, my best Glad Game was when I met my hubby because I had a dead battery in my car. I also firmly believe everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it just takes a while before we know what the reason is.
I have no guess for the pretty girl in pic of the day. I am usually wrong anyway.
Waving a wing at everyone who has landed and all who land after me. Have a nice day.
lol EBJ~ thanks for the laugh~ good guess~ :)~
Well, I know the pic is NOT Eunice!
I do know one thing now, DO NOT TAKE Nyquil during the day!
I started to get one of those nasty summer colds about two days ago, and only had Nyquil liqui-gels. Took 2 when I went to bed Thurs., and I slept like a baby! but, the nasty cough and stuff came back yesterday.
So, took 2 more Friday, felt a bit better, and this morning, took 2 more thinking that I would really blast this cold to smithereens, and just now woke up since my last post this morning! And dang it, I didn't even get to enjoy my delicious Eggs Benedict!
Thank goodness Miss Laurie likes to sleep too! We both are now wide awake, refreshed and ready to tackle Saturday, but it is half over!!!!
PS to J/L: I know I must have missed this somewhere, but just who is Eunice?
I am home from the ball game. They won so they play again on Wednesay. Traci even got two hits. Both were fly balls and she was 'out' but we were so GLAD she hit the ball.
There are so many people I would like to comment to and so little time. I have to begin preparations for the Father's day picnic tomorrow. I will just say, "My heart is with all of you and I will see you tonight."
How rude of me, I forgot to say Hi to Grandma Moses! How are you?
Laurie is feeling better today, thanks for asking. With all the naps we both have been taking, I think we will be up late tonight!
I am glad to hear I'm not the only one without a MySpace! I was really thinking I was the only one not partaking!
SacBarb~ Shakespeare in the Park sounds like fun. Is it at Land Park, where they have FairyTaleTown? I took my grandson Jacob there a few years ago for that festival they have every summer for the kids, and I swear it was 110! They were giving away free Crystal Ice Cream cones, but by the time you could eat it it was Ice cream soup!!! Have lots of fun with Sharon.
Tina~ I don't know what you mean. I should know what I look like, shouldn't I????
DonnaJean Good to see you in the nest. Is that sweet you in the picture? Eunice is Tina's avatar.
DonnaJean: Sharon lives in Roseville and we are going to a park near her house. Land Park used to have Shakespeare in the park performances, but I think they discontinued them. I love Land Park. We used to take the kids there a lot and my Hubby played golf there a lot too. He also helped host a charity golf tournament there each year for five years before he died. He died 2 months before the 6th one and they named it in honor of my hubby. In the six years of the tournament, over $100,000 was donated to Sutter Hospital for their Hospice Program.
SacBarb That's really wonderful about the money the golf tournament has raised. Your hubby must have been a great guy. (((HUGS)))
Thanks J/L. It's a long story how it came about, but he did love doing it and we had a lot of fun along with all the work.
I completely understood you, Tina, as I get tired of listening to myself, too! I always have such important things to say to myself, though! LOL
Donna Jean, so glad Laurie is feeling better--I hope you feel better, too.
UGH! I have been taking care of my 17-year-old baby today--he has a temp of 103.7!! The nurse just told me to keep giving him meds even though they aren't bringing the temp down much. I finally started alternating ibuprofen/Tylenol and it seems to be going down a little. He's worrying me!
Anyway, not sure I'll be back today. Have a great Saturday night.
Sandie That's a high temp for a 17 year old. I hope his fever breaks soon.
The Amazing Owl has been revealed
It is sweet DonnaJean! I don't think I'll guess anymore. I never get them right. :(
I was at my cousins house all day today, she lives down the Jersey Shore, which ia a little more than a hr from me. It was my godchild's Graduation from 8th Grade....
I do love my cousin, I really do, however...They are very wealthy, and her husband makes sure everyone knows it. All day long I heard, about how much money he has, how he has a private jet, how he can "buy" anyone and anything!
I am just so tired of hearing it, Why do wealthy people have to shove it your face!
Oh, what a long day I had!
Thanks for letting me vent!
Carol He has money but he's still insecure about his "true" worth. Sad, really.
Just_Lin:
I don't go that often because of this, however I made a commitment 14yrs ago, when I accepted to be godmother to their youngest son. So I have to show my face at least twice a year. If he did not shove it your face, I surely would not mind.
When one has a private jet, that is great, but do we all need to know it cost 300Thousand dollars a year!
No, I don't think so!
Sorry, I am going on and on!
125 I got it all on my own. I didn't look at Tina's guess. That has made my day. Back to work. My house smells like winter. It's the chicken soup that is permeating through the house. I will be back tomorrow morning. Have a great evening owls. Everyone be glad we had such a nice time today.
I forgot to say....
When he says it cost 300thousand a year, he makes sure he says
ONLY 300thousand a yr!!!
Urgggggg.....
Back from church and my parents house. It has cooled off nicely that I turned off the AC opened my windows!
Donna Jean! What a pretty picture! I just gave up the guessing game as I am horrible at it! LOL!!!
Sacbarb: Well, I do have to pry things out of Katie and reassure her that it won't bother me (because she is very protective of my feelings). However, she beams when she talks about them. (It does hurt quite a bit, but I keep reminding her that I want to be a part of ALL of her life and esp. the things and people who are important to her)! I am lucky for such a sweet girl like Katie. I just worry about her being around my ex-friend (who I do NOT trust)! That is the hard part. However, I do know she is loved...so I guess it should make me happy!
Tink! I am so proud of you for guessing even before TINA!!! WOOHOO!!! Good job! Now I am the one that is not the good guesser!
130...and off to work on that darn puzzle!
Carol, I will tell you what I always say when I see a man being a total jerk about his money, or just being a total jerk in general:
He must have a tiny pee pee.
It makes me so much happier to think of this person that way!
Now I am wondering if that makes the glass half empty or half full. Would Pollyanna think that someone has a small pee pee?
I think she would.
Hope you are all having a great weekend!!
Jennifer You have company. I'm a terrible guesser, too.
Carol Imagine that he has a very small penis. Bwahahahaha!!!!
Glynis:
Oh my goodness, many yrs ago, my cousin told me he had a tiny pee pee!
HA!!!
Well, he is very chubby, so who even knows if he can find it!
Oh, you guys are making be laugh!!
Glynis I see we think alike. :)
Carol: You should have said, "$300K a year? Is that all? Wow, it must be a really small jet!" That would have put him in his place. LOL!
Tinka: Bravo for being the 1st to guess the right Owl today! I'm going to have to start copying your answers. :)
You could also tell him that obviously there is no place to buy MANNERS! Ha ha ha...
...and then remember that he probably has a tiny pee pee.
Just Lin~ I laughed out loud when I saw that we posted the same thing!
Look out men! You act like a jerk and all the women are having the same thought!
Carol I have a friend who I have known forever. She isn't rich but she can afford to help people and she does. She would give you the shirt off her back if you wanted it, but she would tell everyone in town that she did it and how much the shirt cost. I love her but she drives me crazy.
Carol~ I've got to tell you....I know two people with tons of money and you would NEVER in a million years (not dollars) know it! I've been to their house a couple of times and was in shock! I just had no idea. They don't do anything to let on that they have money....except give it away~ I agree with everyone else....this guy has a teeny weeny~! :)~
oh...and you have mail~ :)~
Glynis Exactly! They are obviously overcompensating and we know it! ;)
Hey, folks! Are late-afternoon/early-evening owls allowed to come play, too??!!! :o)
Shirley Is that your dad?
Yes it's my Dad. I thought I would use it as an avitar for Father's Dad. He is the same age as me...45.
Shirley He's a very, very nice looking man.
Thanks.
It's the only picture I have on the computer because my scanner won't work.
OMG - may I just say..
TIGER IS SIMPLY
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a show he just put on!!!
(gotta get caught up on the comments!!!)
149

YES - (pumping my fist in Tiger fashion!!!)
Tina:
I got your e-mail :O)
Just_Lin:
I got your e-mail :0)
Shorty:
Of course you are welcome to play, just join right in. And Welcome to the Nest!
Shirley:
I love that pic of your dad! Thanks for sharing...
SacBarb - I sure hope your son stayed until the end!! WOW!!!
Shirley:
My cousin is the same, he does help out people, but he will tell you so!
Tina:
You are lucky to have friends like that!
I have to work on tomorrows blog...
I will be back!
MEK~~Can you believe the last 6 holes? AMAZING doesn't even begin to describe it! Just hope the knee holds for tomorrow.
DJ~~Cutie!
Hiya hooters,
Carol someone who has to brag about how much money they have has a real self-esteem issue.
I agree and thought of small penis right away too.
Tina I bow to you for your uncanny ability to pick right owl all the time!!
From now on I will guess whoever you guess!! :)
I figured if I guess Jodi or Amicus every day, I will be right sooner or later!
Jennifer you sound like a wonderful mom... I'm sure it's hard, especially with your ex-friend being Katie's step mom.
Shirley what a nice tribute to your dad! :)
OK I must go water some thirsty patio plants! It was hot and hazy here again today.
cpgem - sorry you had to put up with all that today.. I agree with everyone - just imagine!! LOL
My grandmother had a board game named "Pollyanna" - we always looked forward to playing it.. it was REALLY OLD - too.....
Bono - did ya hear me scream LOTS of times!!!?? did ya, did ya??!!
Donna Jean - thanks for submitting your picture - what a cutie - I had no idea today!!
I hope everyone has had an excellent day!!
:-)
MEK:
I am not amazed that you find Tiger so amazing.
cpgem - I have some "friends" that have ALOT of money - and sometimes I just can't stand to be around her husband - his name is Dick and he calls HIMSELF the "Big Dick" - I have always said that if a man has to brag about his "part" then it must not be very exciting..
:-)
Bono - you posted while I was typing...
I hope the knee holds out also!! What a show!!!! The man is AWESOME!
DJ what a lovely young lady! And I guessed it was you :)
Well, I guessed it was you after Tina guessed it was you! I then retracted my first guess!
EBJ - you just made me smile!!
MEK,
May I also say, thank you for always putting yourself out there.
You are here for the right reasons!
lol
DonnaJean you are adorable!
Shirley, I just love your dad's picture, great idea!
Thanks for the nice comments om my Dad's picture. He would have really liked you guys.
Donna Jean - What a lovely lady. I think you are very special.
Jennifer and Amicus - Don't switch to watching my guesses too soon. Stick with Tina, she's the psychic one. I just had a feeling this morning that it was Donna looking at me.
I have made pies and home-made buns, 3 bowls of egg salad mixture, one with just mayo, one with mayo and onions and one with mayo and sweet pickles. The buns are sliced so everyone can put on as much filling as they like. I made apple pies. My three nieces will also be bringing food. I have made lots of ice for my cooler and lots of treats for my "babies". This is the one function of the year that we can take our dogs. The car show/ Father's Day Picnic will be as always in Beacon Hill Park. My sister was always such a big part of this picnic but we will get through it a little easier than we did last year.
Please forgive me for not reading all the comments today but I will catch up soon.
Good Night and God Bless.
Love, Tinka
Shirley That was such an excellent idea that I now have my dad's photo as my avatar. He was such a young sailor in WWII. It's the only pic I have that I had available on the computer. I don't have a scanner.
OMheavens, I was on myspace messing around and I found one of my former student's page and she is only wearing a bra & undies.
For heaven's sake she is only 16!!!
She was the brightest student in my second grade class back when I had her in my room. I heard a lot of rumors about her and I was so hoping they weren't true.
169 - hee hee
iteach I'm sorry to hear that. I wonder if her parents know. She's looking for love in all the wrong places.
Thanks everyone for the kind words about my High School picture!
I sure wish I weighed now what I weighed then!!!
It's funny, the other day when I scanned the picture and emailed it to Carol, my 8 yr old granddaughter was here. She looked at it and said "Is that YOU Grandma"? I said yes it is, and she just kept looking at the picture and then back to me and then finally said, "You look alot like my Mom". That was the most precious thing she could ever have said. It's amazing what comes out of the mouths of babes!
Shirley~ what a handsome picture of your father. We all know how much he meant to you, and I wish you a good day tomorrow. Just keep remembering all those wonderful times you both shared together. The blog you shared with us a few months ago about your Father was so beautiful. (((Hugs)))
Sandie~ Hope your son is feeling better soon. It doesn't matter how old they get, they are still our "babies" and need their Moms to take care of them.
Tinka~ That is funny that you thought it was me first thing this morning! I laughed when I read your last post saying you had a "feeling" I was looking at you.
Have lots of fun at the picnic tomorrow. Egg Salad is my favorite! And you were so sweet to make each person's favorite!
I am off now to watch SNL Favorites featuring Gilda Radner. She was such a special lady, so funny, honest and sincere. I miss her so!
Have a great evening everyone, and I'll see you all tomorrow.
Peace and Love, DJ
EBJ - thank you - you have now made me blush!!
i have to share a story about today -
We all know that I have been eating myself to death this week - well - at 3:15pm, today - i got the worst heartburn - (I had eaten the other half of my calzone from last night, MORE pringles, some M&M's and another slice of that coffee cake) - well, the pain in my chest was SOOOOOOOo bad that I literally thought I was going to die.....- heck, my left arm went numb and tingly - Mr. MEK thought we should take me to the ER - but I said - NO - this too shall pass...... the pain lasted for a little over an hour.... and then - I was fine -
Looking at the clock - I realized that during the time I was having such deadly pain - Chris's memorial service was happening!!
Who says there isn't a greater power??!!
May she rest in peace!!
Just_Lin what a great picture of your Dad! I have an army picture of my Dad and if I ever get my scanner working I am going to put that picture and some others on myspace.
Donna Jean thank you for your kind words. You are always so sweet. (((HUGS))) to you and Laurie Elizabeth.
Bon:
Thank you so very much for today!s blog, I so appreciate!
Your blog really hit home. As the other night when we lost power, I was absolutely beside myself, cause life as I know it had been disturbed. However we were all safe, no damage to our house, cars etc...
Glass half full..Exactly!!!
Shirley and Just Lin - what a great idea to put our dad's pictures up - I should try to find one and scan it - since i know how now..
Hey - speaking of photos - is my myspace the ONLY one that will not let anyone actually see my pictures - they all have red "X"'s and say error when you click on them - BUT - my slide show is still working and I can still edit..
they have been this way ever since "TOM" got finished with whatever he was doing to pictures the other night...
just curious - and does anyone know how I can fix that without having to delete them all and start over!! YIKES
MeK~ your album page comes up...but no album covers....and no X's. You can go to one of your albums and see each pic, but when you click on a pic....you can't see it enlarged! Mine are working fine~
Tina - I have had several people tell me that they can NOT leave comments - that's when they get the error.......
right....you can't.....each time i tried to click on a different pic, it said it was sending a technical error to the appropriate people~ So I kept doing it so they would get a ton~ :)~
Tina - thanks!! I guess there is no way that I can fix it, huh??!
bummer!! oh well...... I guess I won't fret the small stuff!! LOL
Uh....Mek~ I just left you a pic comment~ All fixed~ :D
I just found Carrie Underwood on Grand Ole Opry live!!
i just LOVE her....
Tiger and Carrie all in one day!!
gotta love it...
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
Tina!! Good job!!!
and - YES, that is just trouble - isn't it!! LOL
MEK I just left you a pic comment, too.
MEK: I can see your pics, albums and leave comments..in fact I just did it!
Thanks guys!! cuz just 10 minutes ago - that wasn't happening!!
thanks, Tina, Just Lin and Zona..
YEAH - I'm back in business!!
