1955 CHEVROLET and the conversations that went with it!

by Sac Barb

Comments made in the year
1955!

(That's 55 years ago!)

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way
they are, it's going to be impossible

To buy a week's groceries for $20.00.

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year?
It won't be long before $2,000.00 will only buy a
used one.

'If cigarettes keep going up in price,

I'm going to quit.
A quarter a pack is ridiculous.

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about
charging a dime just to mail a letter
?

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00,

Nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.
 '

'When I first started driving,

Who would have thought gas would someday cost 29cents a gallon..

Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more..
Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying
DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND,

It seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks
it's possible to put a man on the moon by the
end of the century.

They even have some fellows they call astronauts
preparing for it down in  Texas  .

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a
contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball?

It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be
making more than the President.

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen
appliances would be electric.

They are even making electric typewriters now.

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays..

I see where a few married women are having to work
to make ends meet.

'It won't be long before young couples are going to
have to hire someone

To watch their kids so they can both work.

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the
door to a whole lot of foreign business.

'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the
Government takes half our income in taxes.

I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best
people to congress.

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather,

But I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

'There is no sense going to Lincoln
or
  Omaha anymore for a weekend,
It costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

'No one can afford to be sick anymore,

At $35.00 a day in the hospital it's too rich for
my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.'

If only we knew then what we know now.

Good morning/afternoon, depending on where you are. First of all 1955 was 58 years ago, not 55, so this is old in more ways than one.

I love the pic because my Hubby had a 1955 Chevy when we met. All of our dates were in that car and we had lots of fun. 'nuff said!

Waving to all the sickies from this branch far, far away. I hope you are all feeling better.

Waving, too, to all the other Owls who are invited to share my branch.

SacBarb What a beauty you are today! First on your own blog, too! I think you should get extra points for that.

I remember the days when we would pool together our spare change to buy gas and then go "cruising" for hours. A quarter doesn't go as far as it once did, that's for sure.

Everyone must have hopped on yesterday's bus and not returned. Maybe they went to Reno or Vegas.

BARB: A teeny little bit before my time..but I can still remember my dad complaining when gas went over 29 cents a gallon..and how much it cost to feed a family of 5..almost $40 a week!! I found receipts when I was doing all that shredding..it sure was eye opening comparing costs today with those back then.

When I started working cigs were still well under a buck a pack..I think they are up to close to $6 now. Unbelievable.

I still can't believe a pack of gum costs a dollar..my teeth are too old to have to worry about that tho.. ;)

J/LIN: I don't think I could hop on anything right now..lol.. ;)

My friends and I used to 'cruise' downtown on Friday nights too..we didn't have much of a downtown back then..heck we don't have much of one now either..but it was a lot of fun.. :)

BARB: I have a pic of my dad in a car that looks a lot like the one in the pic..it wasn't a convertible though. He was so young and he looks so happy and proud..he sure was rockin' those sunglasses too.. :D

BARB: You'll get a laugh out of this..after I posted that my dad's car wasn't a convertible..I went back and checked to make sure that that's what was in the picture.. ;D

Evening Mates.....everyone still coughing around here? My friends are too so trying to stay away from everyone. My friend even had to cancel a baby shower for Saturday as the mom is too sick. I'm sticking in my bubble. I was even nervous talking to Zona while she was coughing.

I love all those old things, Barb. I remember just about all of them too. It brings back lots of fond memories. Thanks for sending it in for us. Btw, you are very beautiful today. All spruced up for first!!!!

JL, I like your new profile picture. It's a very nice one. Did you get any of your work done today? All I did was go to lunch with my niece, pt and dinner with my aunt and uncle.

Pt told me my other knee is hindering my recovery of my new knee. Very discouraging.

Zona I hope the sleeping is helping you recover more quickly. It's good that you are able to get some rest even with the cough.

Dianne What did you PT mean by that?

Thanks for the remark about the profile pic. It was taken about 3 months ago. I just felt like changing up the FB cover photo and profile pic. The only thing I accomplished today was I did type up some collection letters for the animal clinic.

Pt meant that my bending and straightening numbers aren't changing much anymore and my other knee is prohibiting some of my exercises. They even try and work it too but it needs a new kneecap...ridiculous it wasn't done the first time through.

J/L, I guess everyone IS on that bus from yesterday.

Zona, I totally believe you went back to check the car pic. My Hubby's wasn't a convertible either and it was green and white. I learned how to drive a stick shift in that car, but not too well. He traded it in for a 1957 Chevy automatic, three days before we got married, because I wasn't that good at driving the stick. Totally proves I am not a witch! (for those who think my other car is a broom).

Dianne, You need a new knee cap? On the leg you just had surgery or on your other leg? Isn't a knee cap included with a total knee replacement? I'm confused!

Dianne/Denver said...

The other knee I had done seven years ago. I guess some drs did and some didnt. I had no idea and just assumed it was also donee. Big surprise last year when I had it x-rayed. My current dr said to wait until the paint dries on this one first. It makes me have a blended knee plus it hurts. Ne er remember which is the good knee

Dianne/Denver said...

Not a blended knee but a bent knee
