Coffee Filters

by Sac Barb

Better than paper towels and a lot less expensive...

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the  microwave.
Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome...
Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3.  Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.

4.  Filter broken cork from wine.  If you break the cork when opening a wine
bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5.  Protect a cast-iron skillet.  Place a coffee filter in the
skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6.  Apply shoe polish.  Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7.  Recycle frying oil.  After frying, strain oil through
a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8.  Weigh chopped foods.  Place chopped ingredients in a
coffee filter on a  kitchen scale.

9.  Hold tacos.  Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10.  Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot.  Line a plant  pot with a coffee filter to prevent

the soil from going through the drainage holes. (This is a good one!!!)

11.  Prevent a Popsicle from dripping.  Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12.  Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows?
Use  strips of coffee filters..

13.  Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them.  It soaks out all the grease.

14.  Keep in the bathroom.  They make great "razor nick fixers."

15.   As a sewing backing.  Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.

16.  Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.

17.  Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.

18.  Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.

19.  Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.

20.  Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies..
Saves on having extra bowls to wash.

21.  Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.

22.  Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.

23.  Use them to sprout seeds.  Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and
place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.

24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers.
Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book..

25.  Use as a kiddie's disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.

Morning Glories!

I guess I will be stocking up on coffee filters. Never thought about all of those uses before.

I am home today and don't have to go anywhere Yay!

Things seem to be calming down now that the funeral is past us.

Waving a wing at everyone!

LynnD You are absolutely gorgeous in first today. I hope your day is calm and relaxing. I like it when I don't have to go out to do anything. It's like taking a day off in life. Of course, at my age I probably should be out there doing as much as I can.

All the HOoters can come back now. I feel much better today. Whatever it was that ailed me yesterday seems to be completely gone today.

Thanks for all the coffee filter tips! I don't drink coffee, but Jim does so I will have to confiscate a few for my personal use lol!

SacBarb I forgot to thank you for today's blog. Those were interesting. I especially like the one about using it to cover something you're microwaving. Also using it to tie up herbs.

Happy Saturday Owls.

When I updated my kitchen I found a ton of this kind of coffee filter in the back corner of a cabinet. My new coffee pot didn't use that kind, so I was going to throw them out, BUT this voice in my head kept telling me it would be such a waste and surely I could find some use for them. Well it took a while, but I finally came across this and I have used them for many of these tips, especially the microwave cover. I still haven't used them all, yet.

Lynn, You are bee-you-tee-ful in first today. I hope you can use this day with no where to go, to relax a bit.

Mary, Turlet paper is a necessity. In a pinch, I guess you could use J/L's suggestion to use coffee filters, but they might scratch a little. ouch!

J/L, I'm glad you are feeling better. Maybe I'll move a little closer to your branch.

SacBarb I've moved off the infirmary branch and back over to the rehab branch. All is well.

Barb, I almost thought it was goingbtomsay tonusecasa wipe when it said to use in barhroom. Lol. Scratchy is right. Thanks for the blog. Lots of good ideas except we don't have any filters anymore as we use a Keurig!!

Lynn, hope you had a nice peaceful day and hope you and your husband are feeling better.

JL, whew glad to have you back on the rehab branch with me. I wonder if I'll ever get off it? I'd still rather be here than on the sick branch.

Jodi, I'm swinging those tassels as fast as I can for your team to win tonight. Looks like it might be working as they are on the goal line. Well, field goal anyway.

Mary, you just hanging out today resting too? I don't like rest days. Well okay, I like to do something for half of it and rest the other half. I picked up dinner for us while I was out so we could watch football and stay home. Tomorrow I'm having a late Christmas lunch with a friend. We decided to skip presents this year and just go for a nice meal instead.

Not much else going on around here. Tina, you adjusting back to work today after that nice long vacation?

Barb, it looks like I was drinking during my post to you. I really meant to say ...i"thought it was going to say to use as a wipe". I really need to proof read as I type or look as I type or put my whiskey away!!

Hi Guys!

BARB: Hmmmm..ok call me a cynic..but does anyone else wonder if this list was put out by the coffee filter industry? ;D Great ideas though! I'm going to try the window cleaning one..and also the one about the Christmas ornaments..very timely! :)

You're lucky you saved those filters BARB..I don't know how many times I've thrown things away..just to find I needed them a week later.. ;)

LYNN: You are looking beeeyoooteeeful in first! I hope you were able to do some painting and/or crafts today.

J/LIN: Save a little room on the rehab branch..I should be able to move over there soon! I'm glad you're feeling better!

DI: Don't hurt yourself swinging those tassels! I think the Packers have this one in the bag!

MARY: We had mozzarella sticks for dinner..not kidding. We were getting rid of the leftovers from New Year's Eve.

On second thought J/LIN..after that dinner..I might need to stay over on the infirmary branch..at least until tomorrow.. ;)

Zona said...

Why does mozzarella always look like it's spelled wrong?

Just a rhetorical question. :D

Have a good night everyone!

Just_Lin said...

Mary Although your dinner doesn't sound very balanced, it does sound tasty.

Just_Lin said...

Zona I hope you are getting better every day. Do you still have a low, sexy voice?

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I bet Louis enjoys the tassel swinging. :)

Ah, whiskey! That explains a lot. LOL

I hope you have a good time at your lunch tomorrow. Don't forget to comb your hair.

Dianne/Denver said...

Hmm JL. I think I might even break down and take a shower and wash my hair tomorrow. You notice I said " might"? Yes Louis is enjoying the tassel swinging and lap dance. This is a busy household tonight..and it's all be ause I was cheering for Jodi's Packer. Can you imagine the fun for a Bronco game??

Zona's voice wasn't sexy..she sounded like Randy. Stay over on your branch Zona until you pass the well test...no germs allowed over here I keep saying.

Mary, that sounded like a different dinner. I think I'd pass and go to your VFW and have a steak.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne And a lap dance? Wow! Louis must really score when it's a Bronco game.

Sounds like your getting all gussied up for your lunch tomorrow. You must really like that friend to go all out like that. ;)

should be "you're"...

SLIN - I scored a couple of really great "tankini" tops last summer at JCP!! They both have a built in underwire ... all the better to show off the girls! I wear them with black swim shorts. No upper thigh action here ;) I also have a couple of great coverups!!
