College Graduation!

my youngest nephew is graduating
college today, we are all in PA, my family
and i, even my brother, i am glad he is
here for my nephew

you see my nephew was only 13 when
my brother left my sister-in-law who i
now call my ♥♥sister♥♥

it is only my brother and i and we,
unfortunately do not have a close
relationship, so my sister is
my rock, my friend, my savior
she knows me, she gets me, she
appreciates me, and i her!

today will be the last college graduation
for us, the "baby" as we fondly called him
has blossomed into a boy and now a
young man

tall, lean, handsome and strong, this is he
it seems he can conquer anything he desires
i call it a "go getter" when he sees a possibility
he grabs, squeezes tight and runs with it

what a amazing young man he has become
he values us as a family, and cherishes
the moments we spend together
he is a great nephew, a loving son, i caring
brother, and a amazing grandson
he loves my father dearly, they are very close

i think that comes from the strained relationship
he has with his father, so instead he places himself
within my fathers reach, and my father takes hold

as we watch our "baby" take that walk up the
steps to receive his diploma, we will no doubt
shed tears, however they will be happy ones,
the tears will be full of joy and pride

he is off to law school, as he starts a
primer course two days after he graduates
he is heading to DE, he will make it
i am sure, he just has it in him

he is young man now, time to let go, to let him
follow his own road and to make his own
journey, time to watch as he builds on his
foundation and creates a life that will
complete him~~

Congrats my dear nephew, may you
always reach for the stars ♥♥♥

Good morning Hooters~

iteach~Congrats on #1 and I wish I could go with you to the rummage sales...it's been years. Have fun!

Carol~Congratulations to your nephew on his graduation, I know how proud everyone is of him. To watch one of your young ones spread their wings and fly is such a joy...and you wonder, where did that little boy go.

Mo, Mo, Mo,~So good to see you. Thank you for the lovely breakfast. I figured you would be sleeping-in this morning after your busy week. It all looks so good, but I believe I'll have grits, bacon and eggs.

Hope everyone has a great day.

RONNIE...I wondered why I got up so early today, too! Maybe since I slept from 8 till 1 and then 2:30 to 8, I was done!

I have a sooooo damn much to catch up on, but I would rather be playing here for a little while!

Hope you have a fun filled day!

Congrats iteach on being first this morning!

Hey Mo, good to see you back again!

Hey Ronnie!

Enjoy your weekend Carol!

From area 51, VIG good to see you again too!

Poe thanks everyone who enjoyed his videos. He gets camera shy so it's hard to catch him. He does a really good smokers cough that I would love to catch on video. He gags, wheezes, hacks, it's sooo funny.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend, we're supposed to be in for another hot one. It was over 100 yesterday.

Good morning all you lovely Owls. EBJ, we are going to have another hot one here too.

Carol: Congrats to your nephew. I had tears reading your blog. It reminded me of when my youngest graduated San Diego State. He is the only one of my 3 boys to graduate college and he was a freshman when his Dad died. I know how proud you and the family are and good luck to him in law school.

Iteach: Congrats on first. I too read your status banner and I pray everything works out well for your Hubby.

Mo: Thanks for breaky. I love hazelnut coffee. Good to see you back in the nest.

Hi Turtle. I bet you went back to sleep.

Scirish: Are you about finished with all that 'sprucing up'?

Zona: Where you been girl?

I have tons to do today, but I'll be checking in to see what you all are up to. bbl

You can tell it's the week-end. Iteach is first. Get a good rest, there aren't many weeks left.

Carol - Your touching blog made me cry. It was written so beautifully and brought so many happy memories of my three children graduating. It took me right back there. How wonderful you have such a great relationship with your 'sister'. None of my ex's family would ever speak to me now and yet we were all friends before the break-up. I guess they decided they had to take sides and I wasn't on the right side. Thank God my children are still part of that family. Why can't everyone realize that life is short and 'just play nice'?
Please give congratulations to your nephew from me to him. Wish him good luck in what ever he pursues.

Maureen - Thank you for breakfast. Since this is the beginning of our Victoria Day weekend I am not going to count points. I will have the works - juice, bacon, two eggs, hash browns, and tea. Wow, what a nice start to a beautiful warm day. We may hit 85 today and that would be wonderful. I postponed my computer tutorial until Tuesday because I don't want to miss a minute of the sunshine.

Good Morning Ronnie, East Bay J, Amicus, K-Girl and Scirish. Wishing you all a fantastic weekend.

VIG - What are your plans today?

Zona-my-Baby - I am off to myspace to see what you wrote me last night.

Shirley, VIG and all other Canadian owls - Happy Victoria Day Weekend. Stay safe.

Morning Glories!!!

Wahoo Iteach is in the nest and she got first!!! Good to see you!

Wow it always amazes me each year how graduation time sneaks up and is here. Congratulations to your nephew Carol! We are sending up a big cheer for him!!!

Moweenie!!!! You got a little break from slinging coffee!! I love it that you checked in!

Hi Ronniegirl waving a wing at ya!!!

Wow so many of you in the nest already this morning!

Hi Amicus, Kgirl, Scrishy, EBJ and SacBarb!!!

It is already in the mid 70's here this morning and the dogs are giving me dirty looks!!! Like I control the weather! Geeez

It hit 92 at our house yesterday and we had to break out the fans. Very early for these temps.

A friend stopped by and wanted to know why my Seamus the lab/shep mix was trying to drown himself in the water bucket??? LOL

That dog always takes matters into his own paws. I had just refilled the galvanized bucket we use outside for their water and he raced over and stuck his whole head in. He started doing this last summer and it is a riot.

He shoves his head in and actually blows bubbles and then comes up shakes off and runs around like a rabid dog! He gets all happy and cooled off!

Sorry but this just cracks me up!

Ok I need to get at least 2 loads of laundry done and some chores before it gets much warmer today!

Love ya all! Be back later.

Tinkatia said...

SacBarb - Good Morning. You and I must have writing at the same time with tears in our eyes. We both had the same reaction. Graduation is always such a special time in one's life and in the family's life. There will soon be so many changes. It easily brings me to tears. The years go by so fast.

Tinkatia said...

I think my post my # 25. Do I get a prize?

Tinkatia said...

Good Morning Lynn - We also must have been writing at the same time. I am so excited that we are finally getting some hot weather and some of you owls are already sick of it. Global warming?? I think maybe so!!!!

Good morning all! Hope Carol is having a wonderful relaxing family weekend.

MO~~Hope you get a break today! Thanks for the b'day hug and for my yummy grits n' bacon! The good/bad news is you won't miss Brothers & Sisters. Sadly, last Sunday was the season finale.

Feeling for those who are sweltering already today. While we broke a record (from 1922!) for the day, it wasn't as bad as expected. However, this is the annual Rhododendron Festival in Florence, on the Oregon Coast. Thought about going there to escape the heat. Surprise...they recorded their all-time record high temperature for ANY day of the year, at 99 degrees!!

EBJ~~Belated thanks for sharing the Poe videos.

Ronnie~~Thrilled for your week ahead!! Thank God, you'll have clean drawers....I'm thinking you'll need some! :-D~

Time to go to the gross-ry and drop my ballot at the nearest drop-box. Have a great day!!

Ronnie - GOSH - all the MIA's are showing up!!! GOod Morning - great march to TEN!!!

EBJ - as I re-watched Poe's videos yesterday - I imagined that he'd be really shy during the BBQ!! Hope not - have a great day!!

Amicus - don't work TOO hard!! Happy Saturday to you too.

K'Girl - sometimes we just need to sleep!!

Scirish - howdy - have fun painting - we opted NOT to do that while waiting for the new furniture!! LOL

SacBarb - how was the theater last night??

Tinka - Ghost Whisper was really good last night!! Can't wait for the next season to begin

Lynn D - Good Morning To you - I love when my "babies" entertain me - you should video tape that - it could be worth ALOT of money!!

I am sure I missed someone -

whabbear said...

Hi, iteach, 'weenie (delicious... thanks!), MEK, Tink, SacBarb, Carol, Ronniegirl, k-girl, scirish, East Bay, and Bon'O!!

Lynn D: ROFLMAO at Seamus taking things into his own "paws"! Good one!

Tinka: I don't know why families have to take sides either. Especially in your case, it was your husband who just up and left you, right? I don't get it.

Carol: What a fantastic summary of your feelings about your nephew! Have a great time at the graduation, and start looking forward to the next one, when he graduates from law school.

East Bay: It is gonna be hot today! We're having Jim's sis and bro-in-law over for a seafood extravaganza tonight! But first, I have to drive up to Bay Meadows to bet on the Preakness. Big Brown is such a favorite that there may be some high-paying exactas lurking around!

Have a great Saturdays, Owls! GO Big Brown!

MEK: Hopefully, lots! I've definitely decided to head up to Bay Meadows and bet.

And... LOL! You're getting some press over on the Rossblog this morning! Check it out !!

It's nice to see more owls have arrived in the nest while I was visiting myspace. Some mornings my post is the last one for the morning and I feel like my owl has chased all the others away. I thought maybe I should put him on a diet because maybe he isn't attractive to other owls. Anyway not today, the nest is full and I will stop being so paranoid.

Good Morning - Mek, BonO and Whabbear.

Mek - I couldn't watch a story of Eight Belles. I cry more when an animal is hurt than I do when a person is hurt. I know that is wrong but I can't help it.

Whabbear - I don't get it either. The first 'family' function that I was not invited to I literally went to bed and pulled the covers over my head. I knew I didn't belong there anymore but it hurt none-the-less. All my nieces and nephews felt that I had not only lost a husband but they lost a loving uncle and didn't understand why. Divorce affects more than the two people involved.
Enjoy your seafood extravaganza. I wish I could join you.

BonO - I am going over to listen to your summer songs. I am really in the mood for summer. I think it's time I changed my songs and slideshow too. I think I will leave my layout. It's so summery with it's butterflies. I don't think I will change it again until September and we have a long beautiful summer to enjoy first.

sacBarb said...

MEK: The play was very inetersting. They always keep the theater cold because the actors get too hot with all the activity they are usually doing, so I always bring a sweater. Well, last night they didn't have the a/c cranked up so I didn't need my sweater. The play is called 'The Swan' and about 5 minutes into the play, I realized why no a/c. The actor playing the swan was wheeled out in a big box and when he emerged he was COMPLETELY NEKKID! They certainly didn't want HIM to be COLD! He finally put clothes on after about 20 minutes. Anyway, as I said, very interesting and btw, I love this job.

MEK in AZ said...

Whabby - why in the heck would people be talking about me "over there"? I sure hope it's good!!

MEK in AZ said...

SacBarb - LOL - NEKKID and COLD!! but glad you enjoyed the play!!

did they allow cameras!!!???

sacBarb said...

Tinka: congrats on 25

Bon'O: we are having record breaking temps too. Way too early for that.

LynnD: LOL @ your Seamus. Maybe you should get him a kiddy pool.

Bear: good luck with that exacta

Amicus: Do you go to plays other than mucicals? May I suggest 'The Swan'? LOL

Waving a wing at everyone who lands after me. Happy Saturday all.

sacBarb said...

MEK: No cameras and my point was that it WASN'T cold, if you know what I mean!

Hello everyone. I think it's going to be a hot one today but not as bad as it was 2 days ago.

Carol Congrats to your nephew. I know you will have a splendid weekend full of love and pride.

iteach Congrats on first today. Been missing you in the nest. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Lynn D LOL @ Seamus. I had the same thought as SacBarb. I think he would love having a kiddie pool.

Maureen It's always a treat to see you in your party hat. Thank you for breakfast today.

Tinka I love your cute, cuddly owl.

SacBarb You had a much more interesting Friday night than I did! No one emerged naked out of a box around here!

I need to go try and be a little bit productive today. I'll fly back in later.

Glynis said...

Happy Saturday Owls!
Lots going on here today, plus I am getting ready for an Open House tonight so I am busy... and yet, here I sit at my computer. LOL! Oh well, somehow it all gets done.

Carol, your blog was awesome! It made me think about the hopes we have for all of our kids, but it will be even sweeter if we can see the twins someday walk that path to getting a college degree. At least these gray hairs won't be for nothing! Congrats to your nephew and your family. What a wonderful celebration!!

Another scorcher here in the PNW. I sure do hope that Barb has AC where she is camping. HA!

iteach~ Congrats on being 1st early bird!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Tinkatia said...

Just-Lin - My little owl thanks you. I think it has helped his self image. He oftens asks "But why don't I look like the other owls"? Discrimination is even in the owl world.

I am working on setting up my deck for the summer. I just washed the white screens that I hang to keep out the direct sun. I also have those wind chimes that so many owls hate. They are far enough away from any other house to bother anyone or else I wouldn't put them up. I also love my coloured patio lights which I know are considered tacky in many circles. The carpet is a deep rose colour. I guess I do march to my own drummer. I will however post pictures in the summer. With all the flowers on my deck I think it is a rather pretty place to sit out and sink in the warm nightly breeze.

SacBarb - I would have loved to have seen the play with you. I have never seen a play where anyone is "COMPLETELY NEKKID!" At my age and I still have things left to see. That's exciting eh?

Mek - I loved GW last night. Thanks for making sure we didn't miss it. Who do you think is the ghost?

Well I think I have worked enough for a holiday weekend so I am off to enjoy my chocolate Slim Fast and a nap with my 'powder puff babies'

Have a great afternoon All Owls. Please be nice to my rather chubby owl. He loves affection and I love you.

Glynis said...

MEK~ Thanks for reminding us that the Preakness is today! I grew up just north of Baltimore and used to go to the Preakness parade, but never went to the race. Hoping for a safe race for everyone!!

Glynis - We were typing at the same time so I didn't see you. You won't believe how fast the time will go and you will see your boys marching to "Pomp and Circumstance" down the aisle. You will cry and feel so proud. And I bet your hair won't be grey. Mine wasn't and never will be. LOL

My niece graduated from college last week but chose not to do the pomp & circumstance. I am taking her to Europe next month as her graduating present.
iteach, I love your huggable owl! Maybe cuz our shapes are similar LOL!!

MEK~LMAO! We got a new bed last year, with the big mattress. I kept forgetting how much higher it was. Almost broke my neck going to the "john" at night!
I was judging Karaoke last night and missed GW!! dam, dam, dam!
more judging tonight, benefit & Birthday party this afternoon.

Mo,thanks for my brunch lol. I am a late riser.

On the inlaw/outlaw issue
Mr Mary's x-wife's parents, family AND x-wife always treated me wonderful. As a matter of fact his x would even send baked good to us when we had the children for the week end.
Her parents told us she was an idiot for letting him go lol!!

I decided to do a bbq for you, my owl friends...

RIBS
CHICKEN
EXTRA FIRM TOFU THAT WAS MARINATED IN A BALSAMIC REDUCTION, SLICED AND GRILLED
ASST. GRILLED VEGGIES (EXTRA BRUSSEL SPROUTS FOR LYNN D!)
GRILLED CORN
GRILLED RED SKINS
GRILLED PINEAPPLE RINGS
GRILLED PEACHES
ANGEL FOOD CAKE
WHIPPED CREAM
VANILLA BEAN ICE CREAM
ASST. SODAS, BEERS, WATERS AND TEAS

AND LOTS OF WET-NAPS!

ENJOY

Iteach - Thanks for answering me. Now I know I am not crazy. I kept checking for a message from VIG but it went by 'snail mail' and took more than 4 hours. Must be a glitch at myspace.

Maureen - I was going to have a toasted tomato sandwich but ribs, corn and veggies sound so much better, topped off with grilled peaches and whipped cream. To make sure I don't gain weight I will have a diet coke. Thanks Sweetie. That is really hitting the spot. Love,Tink

This is a video of a homeless man in Santa Barbara and his pets. They work State Street every week for donations. The animals appear to be well fed and are mellow. They are a family. The man who owns them rigged a harness up for his cat so she wouldn't have to walk so much (like the dog and himself). At some juncture the rat came along, and, as no one wanted to “eat anyone else,” the rat started riding with the cat and, often, ON the cat!
The dog, will stand all day and let you talk to him and admire him for a few chin scratches. The Mayor of Santa Barbara filmed this clip and sent it out as a holiday card. It's a great example to all humans.

The thermometer on our porch hit 94 today. Not good for a PNWer that is white as a fish belly and needs to lose weight!

Sacbarb: LOL at the Nekkid theater!! I would pay to see that!

Sacbarb and Justlin: I bought that dog his own kiddie pool last summer and he would not go near it. I guess it was too much like a bath. LOL
He did however chew it up this winter when it was empty! LOL

He loves the sprinkler tho.

MEK: I would love to get video of him doing this. I guess I will put the camera by the front door this summer and see if I can catch him in the act. It is hilarious!

Mo: thanks for the food!! Glad to see you got some rest today. I worry about you.

Ok I am going to go lay in front of the fan for awhile. Have a good evening all!

Hi hooters!

It was another smokin hot day here, over 100. Me and the huz were in the pool at 6 tonight and the sun was still really hot.

SacBarb I love that video clip!

MEK do you get food from Schwan? I see the truck in our neighborhood once in a while, and they left a flyer/menu on the front porch. I've never checked it out but I still have the flyer around here somewhere.

Poe will probably be very quiet at the BABB, he is shy around people he doesn't know. Especially if people stare at him!

At the last party we had, he didn't make a sound. He definitely does not perform on demand!

I was trying to film him the other day, he was having a tantrum and yelling. The minute I started to film, he was silent.

See you all tomorrow, hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far!

SacBarb Regarding the play: How "BIG" of a surprise was it? LOL

Mo: OK, I shredded the cabbage but it's got bits of paper in it. I've never made cole slaw before, maybe I didn't do it right.

J/L: Let's just say that the people in the back row got just as good a view as the front row, and didn't need binocs.

SacBarb Sounds like they got the right guy to play the part.

Uh oh... we're going to have to work on Poe. Draw him out of his shell !!

Speaking of which, we're having a seafood extravaganza tonight. Started with shrimp and oysters on the half shell (yum!!!), now progressing to scallops on the grill...

Well I am home from my grand daughter's baseball game. I feel as tired as if I had run the bases. I get so 'worked up' wanting them all to do well. They lost the game but it was a good one. It was our first warm summer evening and it was wonderful. Every other game we were wrapped in blankets and still froze. I guess summer is here. We didn't get hot today but we were lovely and warm, about 80. That would suit me fine if it lasted that way for 2 months. The forecast however is calling for rain for our Monday parade. They better be wrong. A lot of marching bands come up from the States to be in our parade.

Mek - Thanks for telling me about the glitch in myspace. I thought maybe I was getting inattentive when I was checking for messages.

SacBarb - I want to see the nekkid kid too. I love that spelling of the word.
I am going to watch that video now and then go to bed.

Whabbear - Would you Fex Ex some sea food for me please? That would suit me just fine right now. I guess I will go and check out what is left of Maureen's feast.

ZonaBaby - Good night my dear. I hope you are feeling well.

VIG - I will talk to you tomorrow.

Good Night and God Bless all little owls fluffing up their feathers for the night.
Love, Tinka

Just stopping by on my way to bed. Karaoke contest tonight was loaded with talent. It was very hard to choose only two! I'm wondering why one of them picked the song "My Ding-a-ling" LOL! Kinda reminded me of SacBarb's nekkid guy heh heh!!

MEK~The race was awesome! Hubby said he could watch the replays over & over!
P.S. I made the donation to our local animal shelter. Still makes me cry.

Happy Sunday all! I should rest, but there is an art festival at Michigan State University and I hate to miss it.

Night night!!zzzzzzzzzzz

MEK: LOL! I had turned on the gas to the BBQ prior to lighting it when I posted that, and they all started screaming at me from the back patio about the smell...and WHY WAS I ON THE COMPUTER????

So I quickly ended the message and got back to my duties!

Tink: the scallops over rice were fabulous, with just a dollop of white cream sauce.

You were here, in spirit, anyways!!

MEK: Seconding you... I just simply love the owls... and I'm not just saying that because I'm drunk! You ar an extraordinary group of people!

Yes, Mary/MI, even you! LOL!

P.S. I've been wanting to say for a couple of days now... Mary and SacBarb, you should get your two groups of retirees together! I think they would hit it off!

OK, good night, all! And thanks again, Carol, for providing so much "owl fabric"!!
