This Night Owl Blog has given so much! It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"! We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly. And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :) It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!

Life Lessons Learned
Dedicated to our own Iteach, Jennifer, VIG and Tink ~~~
by bon'oregon
Recently I read the inspiring best-seller The LAST LECTURE by Randy Pausch, the 47-year old father of three very young children and Carnegie Mellon Professor of Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Design and Time Management. In September 2006, Pausch was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer and, in August 2007, he was given the prognosis of 3 to 6 months of relatively good health. Much of the next few months were spent capturing in a 'last lecture' his philosophy of life and lessons he wanted to leave with former students and-~~more importantly~~-his own children and wife. What a wonderful gift he left for all of us educators, parents, HUMANS.
I'm so tempted to leave a dozen or so quotes from the book here, but I'll resist. Here are just a few.....
*"In the end, educators best serve students by helping them be more self-reflective. The only way any of us can improve...is if we develop a real ability to assess ourselves."
*"I've always believed that if you took one-tenth the energy you put into complaining and applied it to solving the problem, you'd be surprised by how well things can work out."
*"Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted...failure is not just acceptable, it's often essential."
*"Whether you think you can or can't, you're right."
*"Showing gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful things humans can do for each other."
*"If I could only give three words of advice, they would be 'tell the truth'. If I got three more words, I'd add: 'all the time."
Today is National Teacher Day. This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week. I thought it might be fun, on this day, for each of us to look back and remember the ONE teacher who stands out in our memories for something they said or did which impacted us and our life choices.
Was he/she a Post-Graduate Professor or gifted Kindergarten Teacher? Did we recognize that influence at the time? Or are we just beginning to realize how much of who we are we owe to them? I've had one or two such teachers, but I'd rather hear from YOU about yours!

The first soldier one hits my heart!!!
Zona.. It was scrapbookign day on friday..and i already have 2 of teh 3 things I ordered...
I got wacky tack paper... and the lighted cutter with 11 blades!!!
MEK: THANK YOU!! You always remember! I think our cable company needs to do some upgrading on their servers or something..this is crazy!
IBB: That lighted cutter looked really good to me...but first I have to open the cutter I already have. Everything I buy from here on out goes to my beneficiaries!! LOL!

I must, here and now, thank TINA for helping me get a Myspace music player..it has made a HUGE difference in my computer enjoyment. Thank you TINA!! This song's for you! ;)

My thumb is getting a work out!!
G'night IBB..hope to see you for a little longer tomorrow. Sweet dreams.
i got two busy signals
three
four
all right - the west coast is VOTING!!!
IDOL: Hmmmmm...How strange that, for the first time, Jason spoke with confidence, almost cockiness~~and was SO bad. Syesha definitely has a Broadway career regardless of what happens on IDOL, and she will bring down the house. It pains me to say it, but little David was very good tonight. (I still see him as a frightened, cowering abused puppy). 'Our' David is still my favorite, but I was disappointed in both of his performances.
Bono - I agree with everything you just said - BUT - I am dialing, dialing!!!
Aarrrgh~~lots o busy signals tonight!
it's all clear for me now !!
haven't had a busy since the first five minutes of west coast joining..
****ATTENTION K-MART SHOPPERS****
I just got home from a nice dinner out with a friend and I want to thank everyone for all the birthday wishes today. (((HUGS))) to each and every one of you.
I am so far behind on the blog I can't catch up. I missed AI. What is the number for dialing??? I will assume we're still voting for David C. 'cause I really like his style. Little David will still be safe this week anyway. I saw the quick recap at the end of the show and he sounded really good.
all clear now.....01 or 05 b'day girl :o)
Just Lin -
david cook's numbers are
1-866-4365701 and 05
glad you had a great Birthday..
back to dialing!!
I did also notice that Jason did not sound good at all in the recap. He should be the next to go home.
MEK Thanks. Voting now.
Hey MEK. I've been dialing, well punching redial. Haven't had too many busy signals.
Lovey: LOL at my Uncle Guido. I don't think he 'does' trigger fingers!
I love all the teacher stories. I'll post one after I get finished voting.
In Freshman year, I had Mr. Hughes for algebra and I found him to be an excellent teacher. I also thought it was a fun fact that he and I both had the same elderly lady teacher for 8th grade math. When I was a sophomore he asked me if I could help him grade his freshmen students' algebra papers. I agreed and thought it was fun. He would give me a ride home afterwards. One day while driving, he leaned over and ran his hand up my leg from my ankle to just above my knee. I was absolutely frozen. I never stayed after school to help him again and we both pretended like nothing happened. Later I lost my virginity to one of his younger brothers. HA!
Okay, back to voting. :)
I just got home from my computer meeting and my head is spinning with so much new information. Things in the tech world are moving too fast for me.
Zona - I see you are in the nest. I think I will "love you and leave you" as I am very tired. I have only 2 more episodes of the Walton's to watch so I may save them. I will write in the morning.
VIG - I am glad you are safe at your destination.
Iteach - I have had many breeds of dogs through the years and you can't beat a lab for being good with children. Boxers are lovely dogs (my niece has one) but their life span is not as long as a labs. There are exceptions but it is not uncommon for Boxers to last only 6 or 7 years and that can be heart breaking.
I am off to bed. Good Night everyone. Sleep tight.
Love, Tinka
My last post was #440.
BonO - I agree with everything you said about Idol. I watched it on the Early Feed before my meeting. If anyone has the time would you please message me who was dropped from DWTS? Thank you and Good Night again.
SacBarb - good to see you and happy voting!!
My two hours are up - man, I'm going to have carpal finger!! LOL
Bono - how are you holding up??!!
Just Lin - your story gave me the creeps!!
Tinka - Good Night..
DWTS is over here and I don't agree with the result either, just for the record.
MEK: My thumb is sore, but I'm still voting.
Still watching election drama unfolding in Indiana while redialing non-stop.
I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who sent kind words about today's blog and who shared in our salute to teachers. You all never cease to amaze me. I'm honored to be a part of this cozy nest. Luv You!
I've never marched before 446?
447
448
449
Yay # 450!!!!
Yay Donna, congrats on 450
I'm still voting
I guess all the Mid West and east Coasters are in bed.
I voted over 100 times for David.
Which one is my secret!!!
My son never did like school. After his very first day of kindergarten he said disappointedly, "It was okay but they didn't teach me to read yet". His attitude about it never improved. By sixth grade he was notorious for forgetting to hand in his homework, losing it, etc. Getting him to even do the homework was a major chore. His teacher, Mrs. Delema, decided to start calling on him in class relentlessly and grade him that way instead, since he would fail if she graded according to homework handed in. She was pleased to find out that he almost always knew the answers. He really was learning the subjects. He got good grades from her thanks to her willingness to be flexible and creative in her manner of assessing his abilities.
DonnaJean Hey, good job on the march! Nice to see you in the nest tonight.
Off to vote some more.
I don't really want David Cook to win, because then he will be tied to that awful AI contract. He will do much better as runner up, and make great music like
Chris Daughtry, and Kelli Pickler did.
Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are really the only winners in all the seasons that actually did well. I am voting ALOT for him though.
Little David needs some toughening up, but I think he would make a great AI.
Guess my secret isn't a secret any more.
And is anyone else still here???
Hi SacBarb!!!
Well, gonna go and vote for Syesha so Jason will get kicked off. He was TERRIBLE!!! I can't believe he flubbed the lyrics!!! And at the beginning of the Season, I really liked him.
Good Night Barb, and anyone else that is here!!!
Love and Peace, DonnaJean
Hi Lin!
Good Night Lin!
Sweet Dreams All, DonnaJean
DonnaJean Sweet dreams.
Good night Donna. Sweet Dreams.
DJ - great march!!
Just lin and SacBarb and Bono and anyone else that is still up..
I'm off to bed... don't miss SVU!!
I hope everyone has an excellent WEdnesday!! :-)
Resting my redial pencil eraser again!
DonneJean~~Have to smile at your IDOL vote logic. It reminds me of my Presidential Election logic. I know who I WANT to win, but at the same time I know whoever DOES win is really going to have a rough time pulling the country out of the mess it's in. Do I really want that trauma inflicted on MY candidate?
BonO That's a different way to look at it. I'll have to share that with my friend as she is very involved and emotional about the current neck and neck contest for the Democratic nominee. I doubt it will help relieve her anxiety though. LOL
JustLin~~I'm not sure there is relief from the anxiety any time soon. I am so not looking forward to this drama moving it's focus to Oregon. They're swarming all over us starting this weekend. I refuse to answer the phone or the door already.
BonO It sure is a nail-biter.
Finished voting and watching SVU. Didn't see THAT coming!
Whew....I've done my IDOL duty for the week. That's hard work!
SacBarb Yeah, I just finished watching SVU, also. Surprise ending.
BonO After tonight, my friend will probably be feeling better. LOL
SacBarb and BonO I can only vote for AI for one hour. That's all the patience I have for it.
Good night to everyone. I've had a long day and I've been under the weather for several days now. Thanks again for all the nice birthday wishes. You guys are the best! XOXOXOXO
SacBarb~~Save your poor thumb next week. I recommend a the eraser end of a brand new unsharpened pencil! :o)
JustLine~~I hope you had a fantastic day today. The countdown's is going fast now. Sweet Custard dreams.
This is it for me tonight kids. See ya tomorrow!
470?
Good night Linda. Sweet Dreams.
I think I'll turn in also.
Good night Bon.
Well, dang it Lin~~Have no idea where that 'e' came from :o)
Bon Thanks for the 'tip' I'll do that next week.
testing
JustLynn~ Sorry I missed your Birthday!! Hope it was a good one!! Goodnight!
I haven't read all the posts yet. I will when I get home tomorrow. The internet is $14 for 24hrs here, so I haven't been online too much.
I went to see the Jersey Boys tonight. It was FANTABULOUSE!! I wrote a little bit about it on myspace. I can't wait to see it again. We will be going home tomorrow. We fly out about 9pm Vegas time.
Were my eyes deceiving me or did I see a little "tush,"hiney","butt"etc. peeking at me on the other pg? Wow!! Nice ass LOL! :+)
"
I just noticed I am alone LOL!!
I would say goodnight, but it is almost 2am here, so Good morning everyone!!
Okay.....finally caught up....watched AI and DWTS.....and am a little confused.....why is (almost) everyone voting for David Cook? Oh....I get it now....he stunk tonight and you want him to stay!!! Ohhhhhhhh!!! And since David A. rocked the house, he'll be okay.....I totally get it now!!! :)~
Did anyone get turned on by Apollo on DWTS? yummy~ :D
Good morning, Mary/MI, MEK, DonnaJean, et al.!!
LOL@MEK putting the "WE" in "Wednesday"!!
bon'O: There's a fascinating article in this month's Vanity Fair about Bobbby Kennedy and his candidacy. Reading it has reinforced my belief that, although I've been a Hillary supporter throughout the primaries, I think the US is in a similar position to 1968, and needs a leader who will restore our moral position in the world.
Barak may be that man!
Speaking of moral positions:
MEK: I'm glad you at least feel bad about beating people with bears in their backyards.
There's hope for your moral compass yet! LOL!
Unlike mine. I'm afraid I'm consigned to a life attracted to trash. LOL againg!
