Roller Coaster Ride?

My Roller Coaster Ride

by Iteach

Lately my life has been like a roller coaster ride. The ride has been going up and down so much lately that I wish the darn roller coaster would go straight for a while.

I have been trying to keep my chin up even when the car is going down the hill. It is a lot of work and I'm exhausted every night.

Where are you right now in the roller coaster of life?

Are you up?

Are you down?

Or are you coasting?

When you are going down what do you do to hope cope with the fall?

I rely on my children and a good book. I love to get lost in a book and I love to watch my children laugh.

HELLO OWLS!! Missed you all today. 'Spoke' with some of you via MS, but can't go through IDOL evening without settling in on the "cozy couch" with some pals!!

(((ITEACH))))~~Thanks for letting us go along for the ride. It's easier not to scream on life's rollercoaster if we have a good friend or two with a hand to squeeze while we close our eyes in fear!

MEK~~Talk to Mr. MEK about all the great golf courses up and down the far left coast....you just might convince him!

VIG~~Hope the pink eyes give way to rose-colored glasses real soon!

Many more shout-outs due, but it's almost DAVID time here!! Already peeped my spoiler, so now I can actually watch and appreciate without being impatient. THANKS one last time Joey...you're the BEST!!

ITEACH: Great blog! I can so relate to the roller coaster ride! I have often shouted "I WANT OFF" but no one seems to hear me to stop the ride! I hate amusement park rides too!

I do love Bon'O's image of having a friend or two along on the ride to squeeze their hand! What a nice way to look at friendship! : )

It seems I am often awaiting anticipatory drop to the bottom. It's bracing for it that sometimes can be worse than the actual drop.

I noticed that a lot of people said that God never gives us anything we can't handle. I love Mother Theresa's twist on that. She used to say, "I know God never gives us more than we can handle, I just wish he didn't trust me so much!"

I also agree with J/L that without the lows, we can't appreciate the highs.

Glad to know so many of us are on the same ride. And with Bon'O's image for us, I think we will have plenty of hands to squeeze along the way!

Night everyone! : )

OK...This will leave me on an even number! LOL!

NIGHT! Hope to be able to play more in the nest this summer!

MEK and Iteach: I feel like the dips and climbs of my personal roller coaster have been getting larger lately, too! So many things have been happening at once, and many of them have just emerged (erupted?) in the last year.

Things have gotten more complicated at work, with the ever-present decisions seeming to grow more in importance, and with bigger stakes for the outcome of those decisions.

Things have gotten more complicated at home, health-wise especially. I've had my tiny brush with cancer. My brother-in-law was temporarily paralyzed. My sister has undergone five different operations since last August, when her right-eye retina first developed a tear. The latest chapter in her ongoing nightmare is going on right now; her Boston surgery last week caused her retina to tear again, after getting back to Toronto; so back they flew to Boston on Monday!

Right now, after yet another surgery, she’s facing yet another long and painful healing period, with no doubt that some and maybe a lot of her sight is gone permanently.

And, of course, to complicate things further, I'm about to hit 50! Certainly a time for reflection, and I’m doing a lot of that right now. One of the things I find myself reflecting on is the small town where I grew up, and my childhood there.

That, by the way, is a direct outgrowth of the Owl's Nest. Our blogs and comments are so often about our memories and experiences, so often about childhood and long-ago experiences, sometimes (like Joey’s incredible Mother’s Day blog) featuring people who belong exclusively to our pasts.

I love it all!

Remember a few weeks ago, when we picked our favorite teacher? I was so sure that my choice, my fifth grade history teacher Isabel Johnson, would not still be alive.

Wrongo! Because I’d been thinking about her in connection with my blog comment, I did an idle search of the internet soon after, and discovered, to my absolute amazement, that she was still an active member of the Presbyterian church in Thornbury!

I contacted the church by e-mail, and OMG, owls! This is what somebody named Audrey Edwards, who responded initially, wrote in a followup e-mail today:

Hello Robert,
When i told Isaleb that I had an email for her from Robert McCann, her face
lit up with a big smile!
Her mailing address is Box XX, Thornbury
Her email is XXXX@sympatico.ca
She is waiting to hear from you.

Audrey Edwards

That just totally made my day! We’re going back 40 years here; she was my teacher for one year only, 5th grade in 1968! And she remembered me with a smile! She liked me!

Awwwwww….. ☺

So… the point of this overblown and overlong message: MEK and iteach: if the size of the hills really are growing, there are some legitimate higher highs (like an owl-inspired contact with a grade school teacher), as well as lower lows. We at least deserve to savor and enjoy those peaks!

Heck, if I tried to kill myself - I would fuck it up - SO - that is NOT an option!! Sure wouldn't want to put that burden on anyone!! My plate is full - I sure wouldn't want to serve that up to someone!!

Bear: What a wonderful experience. I connected with my 6th grade teacher as a result of the same blog. She was Sister Daniel when she taught us, but now she uses her given name of Katherine Healy, even though she is still a nun. One of the schoolmates I went to Vegas with and I decided to try to find her.

We thought she would be at least 90 by now, but low and behold, she is only 8 years older than I am. We were her first class and she was only 20 when we were 12. We thought all the nuns were really old.

Funny how perception changes as we get older. Another funny thing is we actually found out what her 'real' name was when she was still teaching us and we thought we were going to go to hell because we weren't supposed to know it. LOL

It was fun reading about your experience. Thanks for sharing it with your feathered friends.

P.S. I made that correction specifically for the reason you mentioned. The word I left out belonged BEFORE Mother not after.

Kudos to Simon..

Wow this is really an emotional announcement.

97.5 million votes...no wonder we had a hard time getting through

I love, love, love the last song too.

Bear - Your post made me cry and feel very nostalgic. It is, however, a good kind of cry. I hope your sister is fine. My sister had that problem and it was very painful. I will keep her in my prayers.

Just Lin - If Brad the gardener from the old Y & R did my lawn I would definitely feed him and maybe even keep him here.

Zona - Loved talking to you tonight. Next time it must be my dime we spend. I guess it's quite a while since phone calls were a dime, although long distance calls used to be very expensive. A three minute call to Halifax was about five dollars and that was a lot of money back then, (in the dark ages).

VIG - I am glad you are home tomorrow. Call me.

Good Night My Dear Owls.
Sweet Dreams. Love, Tinka

Just_Lin said...

I'm speechless! Wow!

MEK in AZ said...

Just Lin - YES - extremely gracious!!

Tears were flowing here also!!

MEK in AZ said...

I think SIMON really got me started....

kudos to Simon Cowell tonight!!!

Bon'O said...

SacBarb~~This would not be the place to come if you're looking for tissues. Mine are ALL used after that ending. No spoiler, but I am thrilled with who got the last 3 words of the season ender (you had to read lips, but it was easily done).

Barbara_in_COviaWA said...

Oh mna....don't want to be a spoiler, so I guess we will discuss tomorrow. I got so teary eyed.....

Loved the Pips!
Loved Nash and Brooke!
Loved my Jason!
Loved David!

Just_Lin said...

BonO Read lips? Please write me on myspace. I'm intrigued.

sacBarb said...

Bon: I may have missed that too. Send me a MS message, please.

MEK in AZ said...

Bono - Yes - three little words!!
PERFECT!!

This has been fun - can't wait to talk about it tomorrow!!

Again - I think the nest was responsible for half of those millions of votes!!

I'm off to bed...

Hugs to all!!!!!!!!!
