41 Life Choices....

by Shirley

My sister sent this to me, and as I read it I knew I had to share!

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
9. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
10. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
11. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
12.. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
13. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
14. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
15. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
16. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
17. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
18. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
19. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
20. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
21. The most important sex organ is the brain.
22. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
23. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ''In five years, will this matter?".
24. Always choose life.
25. Forgive everyone everything.
26. What other people think of you is none of your business.
27. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
29. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
30. Believe in miracles.
31. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
32. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young...
33. Your children get only one childhood.
34. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
35. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
36. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
37. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
38. The best is yet to come.
39. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
40. Yield.
41. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift..

Morning Glories!

Very good list Shirley! Thanks for sharing.

Number 5 I would normally agree with but what is going on with some of the banks in America right now, with them raising interest rates even if you have an A one credit rating deserves a revolt by their customers. I know two people who went from a 7 percent interest rate with excellent credit and recently the banks raised their rate to 21 percent and 16 percent. This is robbery no matter how you look at it. IMHO! I say throw out the credit cards. If you can't save for it I guess you don't need it. Or if you can't pay it off in one or two months you don't need it.

14. This is something I need to really do! I am working on it in small doses, but I believe my life will be better for it.

20. This speaks to me in so many ways. I feel like I have spent my life walking a line wondering what people will think if I just go for it and be eccentric! I have made small steps to change that.

Oh and number 6 is a really hard one! I love to win an argument but realize some times you have to let it go. Why? Because if I didn't I would have to kill the other person. LOL

Good Morning!

SHIRLEY: I love 3..I don't have the energy to really be mad at anyone let alone hate them.

As for 30..I have always believed in miracles and I know I always will.

I'm still working on 10..the past is forever getting in the way of the present..there is so much I need to let go of.

And then there's 34..I completely agree..at the very end, nothing else will matter at all.

Thanks for sharing these with us today SHIRLEY!

Congrats on 1st Lynn D!

Good morning Tina, Zona, Bonachichi and Carol!

I knew you guys would like this list or at least parts of it, that's why I knew I should share it with you.

scirish said...

Shirley...Great timing on the list! We, (I) Made the decision NOT to move to CA. It has been a dream of mine for many years, so this was very difficult. Yesterday I was depressed and hated my house. Today, I'm pissed and hate my house. I'm sure I'll get over it, applying numbers 1 and 41 will help!

whabbear said...

Scrishy, why? Why? It's a good thing to move to California!

Shirley: I loved almost all of these, and totally agreed with them. The only exception was the the claim that what others think of you is none of your business.

I think it is! LOL!

scirish said...

Whabby...Believe me I KNOW!!! Crying children had a lot to do with it. We had been telling them for years that we were going to move, but when we told them we got the house, I guess it became a reality. We both were surprised at the depth of their reaction. So that, coupled with a bit of insecurity about SO's job out there (he was to open and run a satellite office for his current employer)killed the dream.

bonachichi said...

Oh, Scrishy... I'm sorry you're not making the move. If you want to stay where you are though, you should follow your heart.

scirish said...

Bonachichi...I don't really want to stay here, SO and I are tired of the winters here. The humidity in the summer is no fun either. But, I do remember not liking it when my father moved from CT to VA and I'm not that close to my dad, so I do understand what SO's kids feel. However, if their lives change at some point and they move away, I think I shall kill them!

whabbear said...

Scrishy! Yuck! I wish you could follow your heart, because kids don't typically run their lives around their parents either, and there is a good chance one or more of SO's children WILL move away at some point.

Job uncertainly is another matter, of course.

scirish said...

Whabby...That's the kicker..I believe at some point, at least two of them will move, but they are just not ready yet.

As far as the job situation goes, if something did happen with his job, we wouldn't even have our respective "side" businesses as they are propelled by word of mouth and we know no one there. All the prior research I did, indicated that the COL is 30-40% higher. It would be a shame to have all that wonderful warm weather, but not be able to pay the electric bill without dipping into savings. I know we made the right "practical" decision, but I really hate giving up that house. Did I mention it was four miles from the beach? Four freakin miles!!!!

Bebbilane said...

Hi congrats on first LynnD

Shirley: I love those types of lists. Thanks for the inspiration today.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Glad you like the list Bebbi.

Scirish sorry you aren't going to move. You sounded so excited the other day when you told us. Maybe another opportunity will come along and the kids will agree with it.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Glad you're all enjoying the list. I like the comments, but I have to go. I have a couple of ACME trucks pulling up to the back entrance of Owl Mannor. I hope they fixed my electric chair. It shorted out last Halloween.

ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION!

The basement is now off limits until after Halloween!

bonachichi said...

Uh oh. Shirley's up to something again. Life should be exciting here over the next few days, yes?

Lynn D said...

Scrishy :( I am so sorry. I will dream of a beach house with you. I just keep thinking mine is around the corner I can feel it. Don't ask me why but I do. (((Hugs)))

Tina I would never kill you. DeeDee would have my hide! :)

Zona your are a sugared nut!

Ok must go do dishes

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Does anyone know the number for the ACME Acting School? The mummies and zombies were suppose to be here half an hour ago for a dress rehersal and they haven't shown up yet. Geez good help is hard to find!

Just_Lin said...

LynnD Congrats on first today. I bought a bunch of apples at the store earlier. I didn't know anyone was taking my picture!

Tina Yes, you are so pretty. I like your whitewalls.

Zona I hope you are fit as a fiddle today. I wonder where that saying came from.

Bonach You can never tell what surprises Shirley has in store.

Carol There's something about that tongue in your skeleton's mouth that I find really disturbing.

Scirish I am so disappointed for you! I don't know how old the "kids" are, but I'm sorry they can't get out of the way and be happy for you. It sounded like a pretty opportune time since SO's work had a position for him and housing prices are relatively reasonable now. (((HUGS)))

Bear Very breezy here today. How is it in your neck of the woods?

Bebbi I ran a lot of errands today so I probably got more steps in than usual. Still no where near what you do though.

Shirley There are some really good points on that list. Thank you for the good thoughts today.

Zona said...

I've been working on 19 all day today..dust dust dust..clean clean clean..getting ready for Halloween and all the kids, friends and relatives that come over. I do tend to over prepare..my problem is I don't do that until the last minute..and then I'm running around like a crazy person..I never learn.

I hope everyone is having a good evening..we're having a duststorm here and that is NOT helping me in my quest to clean..lol..

Zona said...

CAROL: I hope the client that walked in this morning was the first of many today! :)

SCIRISH: I'm sorry to hear that you decided to change your plans. We lived in California for eleven years and except for the fires, earthquakes and floods..it was absolutely beautiful. I really did love it there..you kinda get used to those other things.. ;)

SHIRLEY: Zombies? Mummies? Electric Chair? Oh my.. :)

J/L: I think I'm kinda shaped like a fiddle...maybe more like a cello.. ;)

LYNN: When the dishes are done..I have some dusting you can help me with.. ;)

HI BEAR! :D :D

Zona said...

BONACHI: Oh you have no idea what can happen around here at the holidays...do you like jello shots? ;)

It's going to be a wonderful 70 degrees tomorrow...yay!!

Ok..back to the mop and pail..Have a good night everyone.. :)

Hi hooters!

Shirley that was a great list! I will be copying and pasting and printing it out.

Thanx for sharing it!

Congrats on 1 today Lynn!

Scrishy sorry about the change in plans...

JL it is very windy today, also chilly. Kind of a nice change!

MR. EBJ found our green garbage can around the corner and down the street when he got home earlier!

Guess the wind blew not only ours but many of our neighbor's cans around.

Tonight on the news they were showing some popular Halloween costumes. To my chagrin (sp?) many people are buying the "Kate" (from John & Kate +8) outfit and wig. EEEEEKS...

Just_Lin said...

EBJ I hate it when I have to hunt down my garbage can! Fortunately, my garbage was picked up yesterday. Wouldn't it be weird to have people buying masks that looked like you?

Zona said...

EBJ: Sorry your can got blown.. ;)

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Thank you everyone for your comments on the list. It's almost the 28th here in Nova Scotia so I want to wish SacBarb a very Happy Birthday! I got a bit confused over on FB...is your age 37, 25, 29 or 39? Have a terrific day Barb!!

Good Night!!

Maureen said...

SHIRLEY...Loved your list. I hope to live by those...but it doesn't usually happen! Thanks for sharing it.

BTW...I took a peek thru the crack in the basement window at the manor...you are devilishly incredible!

LYNN...grats on 1st. Are you feeling better?

ZONA...I have some rooms that can use some cleaning...wanna come over? LOL!!

EBJ...lucky can...get a blow job!

SCIRISH...I'm sorry your plans to move have changed. Maybe you can redecorate a room or two and celebrate your own home.

night.owls.sb said...

Oh gosh what a day I was a little busy at work, my business partner called in sick, so I worked double. I did not mind tho, I have done it before, its just that the day went by so quickly.. I then went to the gym and 35min into my workout, Boom .. power outage... the entire gym went black, most ppl waited a bit to see if went back on, but no luck...

I least I got 35min in..

Shirley..

I was going to the basement 2nite to get everything ready for the party, so what r u saying I have to stay away, and that would only mean you have to get everything out from under the stairs, the boxes are marked "owl manor halloween" plz make sure you get all 75 boxes, and you must do it all in one trip.. good luck!

:O)

night.owls.sb said...

Scirish..

Sorry about the move.. perhaps it is not the right time.. I always believe everything happens for a reason, sometimes the reason is not clear at first, but the reason will appear down the road..

Keep your chin up!

so I will come back to say goodnite..

bonachichi said...

Scrish, I too, was sorry to hear of your cancelled move. We would have been neighbors.

It is true, we have fires, earthquakes and maybe not so many floods, but certainly landslides. Sinkholes are also popular these days. A fire truck fell into one a few weeks ago.

Even with the natural disasters, if your house does burn, fall down or disappear, the weather's good enough, you can just sleep on the lawn. Assuming of course, we get over the drought and are able to water again.

We overlook the little inconveniences because it really is a wonderful place.

Zona: symbols! LOL!

J/L: It was very windy down here too. You know I go running on Steven's Creek trail every weekday? Today, right behind my complex, a very very big branch from an overhanging eucalyptus tree sheared off of the main tree trunk and fell right across the trail. Must have weighed many hundreds and maybe thousands of pounds. If someone (me) had been unluck enough to be right underneath when it happened... goners!

Whew!

Just_Lin said...

Bear Wow! Sure glad you missed that! Please keep that in mind when you're out running on windy days! Maybe you need another route that is clear of the trees. The Bay Bridge incident today was not cool, either.
