Love Your Car?

by Bonacci

Buy a new Chevy. If you don’t love it, we’ll take it back. I swear I just heard that on the telly. There were some pictures, sure. I just wasn’t paying attention. Not until those magic words. That’s it? Just buy it and you can return it? In the 80’s I bought a new Ford. It had serious fuel pump problems. I think I had possession of the car for a total of 2 weeks the first 3 months I owned it. Ford knew there was something wrong with that car, but they wouldn’t take it back.

If I don’t love it. What’s that mean? What if I am distant in relationships? What about people who don’t know how to love? Is there some sort of prequalification process to determine whether you’re able to love anything? Maybe you love it but say otherwise so you can get a newer car. Maybe you just don’t believe in developing deep, meaningful, lifetime relationships with an inanimate object. If you’ve never loved a car, are you disqualified?

I didn’t see an asterisk in the advert. We’re trained to look for those asterisks. Does the whole world not know that * is a placeholder that means, “We are lying”? I used one of those yesterday. I put it there so I can honestly say that I didn’t lie. Except I did. But I signaled I was so it’s not really lying. Is it?

So back to Chevy, the asterisk doesn’t matter because I didn’t see one. Maybe it was there but it was so small, I didn’t see it. If there was an asterisk, what does it mean? What’s the condition? What’s the codicil? What if I buy a car thinking I can return it, and then become stuck with a car I never meant to own? All because of a special character.

Let’s say there’s no *. If I don’t love the car, Chevy will take it back. How do I prove I don’t love it? Should I treat it badly and beat it regularly? Cheat on it by driving other cars? What if I misuse the car before I decide I don’t love it? Will Chevy take it back even if it has a dent or scratch? I guess that would probably be a good thing to put next to the asterisk.

My point is, I have seen so much shady advertising that I don’t believe any of it. Even the assumingly direct phrase, “If you don’t love it we’ll take it back” troubles me. It’s too direct. There’s got to be a catch. If I were in the market for a new car, this advertising campaign would turn me away from Chevy. I don’t believe their ad. How can I trust their cars?

I want a car that comes out and tells the plain truth. If I don’t like the car after I drive it off the lot, I’m screwed. Now there’s a car I can believe in.

Great post Bonaccichichinekkidarooski!

Tina, little blue haired ladies NEVER drive 80mpg. I didn't even see your * although I know you are openly lying. :P

I don't trust easily either especially when it comes to cars.

Hi Guys!

BONACCI: We love our car..it has remote start..I don't think Mr Z could live without it!

I know what you mean about not trusting ads anymore..I am such a cynic when it comes to claims made by a company about their product..as well as their promises to give you your money back if 'for some reason' you aren't satisfied. I'm always waiting for a wheel to fall off, a handle to freeze up or a motor to stop running. I've been happily surprised quite a few times when a product does exactly what it is supposed to do..while at the same time waiting patiently for it to break..lol.

I guess I've learned not to expect too much..then I can't be too disappointed!

Good morning Tina, LL & Zona!

What's with the beefcake avatars? If I know Tina (and DeeDee), poor George is about to get a makeover. Oh wait. He's winking at me. He knows.

Buying cars sucks. I don't watch television often, but for the hour I did, I sure saw a lot.

scirish said...

Bonachichi...I do love cars...But I tend to be fickle. I could really get some "milage" from this deal (sorry!). Every time Chevy came out with a new model, I could not "love" my current car anymore? I could return it for a newer, younger model? In other words I could have a new "trophy" car every year or so? Hmmm...I bet a middle-aged man came up with this concept..ijs

scirish said...

Btw...Please don't mention this to my current car. It is starting to show it's age and I don't want to worry the poor thing.

Morning Glories!

Congrats on first Tina! I see the time change has given you a race. Lots of early birds here this morning.

I don't believe the advertising either bonachichi. My motto for big purchases is get it in writing before you buy.

Now drug advertising I believe they leave out even more health threatening side effects than they tell you like you will be come a gimpy, nose running walking heart attack with no vision and hearing loss, oh and forget about any hair you might want to keep. imjs. Death maybe more prevalent after you take thier chemical concoction to. Hmmm I just noticed the con in concoction.

Carol I loved your blog yesterday. Sorry I did not pop in but I did laundry at home all day yesterday. Mr. Lynn D ran out of undies yesterday and was not a happy camper. Lucky I always save the crazy xmas underwear for back ups! Still he was not happy!

Oh and I also got caught up in rearraning one of my farms in the morning.

Today will be farming this morning and then errands errands errands! I also have to drop off my ballot at city hall.

See you all later taters!

Bonachichi...I got my first non-hand-me-down, brand spanking new car in the 80's. It was a Ford Mustang and I think it was having an affair with the service manager at the dealership. Everytime I turned around it was there. I finally ended that relationship, but it was messy. There were recriminations on both sides. Finally, the Attorny General had to step in. Although I had to provide compensation for the time we were together, we were both finally able to move on to other relationships.

I love my car.....I've never had a new one, and I've usually driven Fords.....love them! Cannot stand Chevy's~ They can keep them! I'd be able to prove I don't like them! :)~ Fun blog, Bonachichi~

Ok, so I just did the whole Neti Pot thing for the first time. They really should make the device a little more attractive. I swear it looked like I was trying to stick a small penis up my nose.

Good Morning All Owls -

I am just checking in. I am trying to get myself ready for a High School class reunion luncheon. I am not sure I am up for it but I am trying. I will let you know tomorrow if I made it. Have a great day. Love, Tinka

scirish said...

Tinka...Huh??

Tinkatia said...

That delete was mine. I tried my password 4 times. The 4th time I posted my password by putting it in the wrong place. I think that proves I must feel better before I attempt a reunion lunch. Jack will take me and pick me up if I go. See you tomorrow. Off to change my password.

Ok I am getting ready to run errands and I was thinking maybe I should get a flask to get me through the memorial tomorrow. Then I thought what the hell maybe a canteen would be better.

Tina Congrats on #1! Oh, and you butch up nicely, I must say. ;)

NN/LL Just imagine if we could see * floating above the head of everyone who was lying. Our politicians would look like they were infested with fruit flies.

Zona I'm the opposite way. I expect perfection. :)

Scirish OMG! ROFLMAO at your discription of a neti pot! I've always thought of it more like a mini Aladdin's lamp.

Bear I never get emotionally connected to my cars, but I'm really in-like with mine. It's perfect! :)

LynnD I think someone besides you needs to learn how to use the washing machine. ijs

Tinka I hope you decide to go to your luncheon. I bet you'd enjoy it, once you were there.

Carol LOL that you prefer a foreign ride. Why did I think that was rather pornish?

Bonach Thank you for the fun blog today! I really, really like my Prius and am so happy that I have it. I don't get super emotionally involved with my car like some people, though. I used to work with a young woman who was very attached to her car. When it was time to sell it, she had to sell it to someone who lived several cities away because she didn't want to see it being driven around town. You'd think she was giving away a beloved pet or something. I mean there were tears shed and everything!

Tina~in_ut said...

J/L~ thanks for the Cockpit~ forwarded it to DeeDee~ lmbo~

Tina I forgot to respond to your earlier post re: DWTS. Absolutely loved the second group dance! It was great!

Happy Tuesday Owls.

Bonachichi, I don't believe ads either. I want to believe that the wrinkle creams will get rid of those lines (not that I have any) but I am just too much of a skeptic.

As for the car claims...I have been disappointed many times. I currently have a hybrid and I don't get the mileage I was told I would get. I gave up a car I loved to get this one and I am sorry I did. I will keep this car because I can't afford to make a change, but I will take more time and do more research before I buy another one.

P.S I do LOVE my OnStar, however.

sacBarb said...

Tina~driving~80~to~work, congrats on being back in first.

Zona, LOL @ "waiting patiently for it to break" when did you EVER wait patiently? ;)

Scirish, Your secret is safe with me :)

Lynn, Go with the keg. (((HUGS)))

Waving a wing to all the other Owls. Have a great day.

scirish said...

SacBarb...What was the car you gave up?

Bonachichi...The Neti Pot was actually not gross at all. I was hesitant to try it as I quite literally will throw up at the sight of snot/mucus. I kept my eyes closed, just in case, but nothing happened until I blew my nose afterwards. The only problem was that I kept springing water leaks for about an hour after.

bonachichi said...

Scrish, I think I'm going to take your word on the Netti Pot. The only thing I put in my nose is my finger. And not ALL the time.

scirish said...

Bonachichi...I once had a doctor ask me if I was doing that (I had a sinus infection) when I said no, he said I was fibbing and said even he did it. He obviously was not acquainted with my relationship with snot.

scirish said...

Oh yeah...Bonachichi...I thought about your warm place suggestion, and since I hate/don't feel good in humidity, I think FL would be out and right now if I went to SoCal I would have to be trussed and hogtied (are they the same thing???) to go back home. I'm thinkin' maybe Feb. would be good, it's about the time that I can't stand another freaking snowflaky grey day...

BTW...God (or..... insert your preferance here) is the only one watching over mum now.

scirish said...

Lynndeeeee...I vote for the keg!

HI EVERYONE!!! Well, an interesting blog Bonachichi. I like to change cars often so I guess I never am in love with them. I get tired of them. I am used to leasing so it has been easier to change them but this time I bought the car. They say I am going to have it for seven years... bet me! I saw one yesterday at the same dealer that I liked the color better and I only got my permanent license plates today on this car!

TINK: I hope you were able to go to your lunch. I think it would be fun for you.

DWTS: I loved the second group too. I really liked them because I like the people in that group better. I like Kelly Osbourne and I love Donny and then my favorite professional dancer is Derek so there you go.

MO: Thanks for being sad for me that my Bronco team lost (yea, right so sad you were). So your tam is 1-7 and we are 7-1!! I enjoyed the Saints and Falcon game last night. It was a pretty exciting game plus the Saints QB is my fantasy QB.

My eyes have been burning everyday like I have been swimming underwater with them open. I think it is from being in that damn marketplace and farming so much. I am trying to push myself away from the computer earlier in the night.

Well, I need to go and fix dinner for my husband BEFORE he asks me the dreaded question of "what are we going to do about dinner tonight" and then I will have to beat him for asking me that question.

Have a good night all.

bonachichi said...

Oh, Scrish! I'm sorry about Mum. I was under the impression you were caring for her.

I do hope you'll plan a trip somewhere to rally your spirits.

Lynn D said...

Scrishy I hope the leaks you are springing are from you nose. :)

bonachichi said...

Donny's on DWTS? Donny Osmond? Wasn't Marie the one who fainted on national television? I thought she handled it beautifully.

bonachichi said...

Diane, are you sure your burning eyes don't mean an eye infection?

Maureen said...

I HATED the results of DWTS...ijs!

CHI CHI...I respect my car. As for the ad, there HAS to be an asterisk there...somewhere!

I have had a Dodge and Hondas, and I will only ever have a Honda.

TINA...you are like the little old lady from Ipanema!

No NEWZ...I read a bunch of your blogs...AWESOME!

DIANNE...they fired the Brown's GM yesterday. He wasn't with us even a year. Maybe they will get smart and hire Bernie Kosar.

Maureen said...

Aside from the Browns there is other news in Cleveland. A rapist was arrested and in his home they have found the dismembered bodies of at least 10 people...possibly an 11th. SICK SON OF A BITCH.

Today there was an issue on the ballot to bring casinos to Cleveland. So far it is winning. Maybe MARY will make a casino run into town! DIANNE, too!

bonachichi said...

Mo, I did go to the Chevy website to look at the * crap. First, the buyback doesn't apply to trucks; their #1 seller. You have to keep the car for 30 days, and take it back before 60 days. This is the clincher; It can't have more than $200 damage as determined BY THE DEALER. That's the * right there.

bonachichi said...

If they're finding bodies, that guy's been doing more than rape. Hang the bastard.

iteach said...

Hello everyone!!!

I have been gone, didn't mean to be gone so long.

Life was a little crazy with parent/teacher conferences, sick kids, and Halloween.

Heck, even all my crops on facebook suffered. As all my fellow farmers will tell you all my crops died.

Today was jury duty day and I was picked to be a juror. Very interesting case and very draining. I have to do jury duty again on the 17th for a different case.

iteach said...

BTW, I purchase my car by color. Yup, real liable, huh! lol

Just_Lin said...

Jennifer What? They have you doing back-to-back jury trials?

iteach said...

In my county when your name gets picked to do jury duty you have to attend two trial cases in a month.

whabbear said...

I am so discouraged tonight, I can't believe it.

Just_Lin said...

Jennifer I thought it was bad enough here that they call on us once a year. What if your two trials run into each other?

Bear Are you referring to election results? I haven't seen anything about it.

whabbear said...

J/L: Question 1 in Maine is going to to defeat, and Referendum 71 in Washington State is just squeaking through, with half of the vote still to be counted. The "No" vote on Question 1 started out ahead, too, but lost ground throughout the night.

I just posted a very frustrated comment on Facebook. I'm not only frustrated tonight, but frankly, I'm really really fucking angry.

bonachichi said...

I'm sorry, Whab. I'll go check out your FB comment.

It really sucks.

Just_Lin said...

Bear I'm sorry for your frustration and anger. I'm confident that things will change eventually but it may not be in our lifetime, unfortunately. I think what we are witnessing are the growing pains of expanded consciousness.
