Kodachrome

by Zona

When I was about 9 years old my mom gave me her father's old camera..I think it was called a Brownie. I was going to the zoo with my Girl Scout troop..and wanted to take some pictures of the animals. From that day on I was hooked. I loved photography. I was rarely without a camera..whether it be an Instamatic..Poloroid or Disc..remember the Disc camera? Weirdest negatives evah! In college I bought a Canon AE-1. I loved that camera..I took it everywhere with me..eventho it weighed a ton!! Somewhere along the line I stopped taking pictures...maybe it was because the film became so scarce or because I didn't really warm up to Digital cameras..I'm not sure. I still love photography though. This is one of my favorite songs..it makes me want to pick up my old camera and start snappin' away!!

I like this song Zona! Way way back in the day, I had a Pentex K1000 camera. I wasn't a great photographer though. For every 100 shots I took there might be 1 or 2 that I really liked. I wasted a lot of film. Thanks for the memories Zona!

I am still on the "Queen of the Universe"....so much to read! Building a huge church to attract the tourist dollar is brilliant...and very lucrative! So what if its against Jesus' teachings. Seems everything involved with organized religion is today!

Another big news story of year concerned the ecumenical council in Rome, known as Vatican II. Among the things they did in an attempt to make the church more commercial was to introduce the vernacular into portions of the mass, to replace Latin, and to widen somewhat the range of music permissible in the liturgy, but I feel that if they really want to sell the product, in this secular age, what they ought to do is to redo some of the liturgical music in popular song forms. I have a modest example here. It's called The Vatican Rag.

First you get down on your knees,
Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
And genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!

Do whatever steps you want, if
You have cleared them with the Pontiff.
Everybody say his own
Kyrie eleison,
Doin' the Vatican Rag.

Get in line in that processional,
Step into that small confessional,
There, the guy who's got religion'll
Tell you if your sin's original.
If it is, try playin' it safer,
Drink the wine and chew the wafer,
Two, four, six, eight,
Time to transubstantiate!

So get down upon your knees,
Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
And genuflect, genuflect, genuflect!

Make a cross on your abdomen,
When in Rome do like a Roman,
Ave Maria,
Gee it's good to see ya,
Gettin' ecstatic an'
Sorta dramatic an'
Doin' the Vatican Rag!

Nice huh?

I also read that Julio Iglesias is playing in the lounge at MQOTU Oct 25th thru the 31st!!

Nice blog Zona! Of course its no "Queen of the Universe" or your "Junk Drawer" blog...but it did bring back the memory of flash cubes!

Good morning beautiful Tina. (Is that what you wanted Sweetie?), Shirley and Michael. It's a lovely Fall day here. Hope it is a great day for everyone.

Tinka said...

Shirley - Now with the digital cameras we can take a hundred pictures and hope we get a good one. Back in the olden days every picture cost money both for buying the film and developing. I use to get mad if my pictures didn't turn out and as you said it happened more times than not.

Tinka said...

Michael - Where do you get your ideas for songs? Either you found that one or if you wrote it you must have a Catholic background. Only Catholics would know about "Kyrie eleison", "genuflect", original sin" etc. You are a mystery to me.

Tinka said...

Tina - I would love to see your scrapbooks.

Zona - I love that song. I have heard it so many times through the years and I guess I never listened to the words because I never knew it was a commercial for film for your camera. It was a good one too.

Zona - My sister owned the family Brownie camera. She always kept the original pictures (because she thought they had the best quality) and made prints for mom and me. I never owned a camera until I was married and Jack bought a Pentax half frame. The negatives were half the size of a regular 35 mm camera. It took 72 pictures and it made slides. You could get the slides developed. I did that and made an album a year for each child. I am glad we still have the slides because the album pages weren't acetone free and they are starting to fade. Last Christmas Jack bought me something that made prints from slides. I was going to re-do all my pictures and now it is getting close to Christmas again and I haven't even opened the box. I think I had better cut back on farming. All my other hobbies are taking a back seat.

I have had many cameras since that first Pentax and have loved taking pictures. A few years ago I got behind on my album making because I started making DVD's. I love those. I made one of my sister and me through the years and I treasure it. I started it before she was diagnosed with cancer and then I worked hard to finish it before she died. She watched it with me and her daughters and we cried all the way through it.
Another favourite is the one I made of my mother's 95th birthday party here at my house. I still can't watch that one. Right now I am making one of Tango through the years but again Facebook is getting in the way of my hobbies. Oh well it won't be long before we will be making New Year's resolutions. That will be mine for next year. Get back to my albums and DVD's.

Must feed my little ones.

Another great blog Zona. Thanks for the memories.

Have a great day everyone.

Tinka...

did you read yesterdays posts....lol

Why would only Catholics know about going down on one knee? Many people study Catholicism that aren't Catholic. All the religions of the world are fascinating. The way that one little book can be interpreted into sooo many different beliefs...

Genuflection or kneeling is prescribed at various points of the Roman Rite liturgy...but not before the Byzantine Empire required even senators to genuflect to the emperor. In medieval Europe... one demonstrated respect for a king or noble by going down on one knee. It is often performed in western cultures during a proposal of marriage.

Original sin is not exclusive to the Catholic church either although it does seems at times that the Catholic church has cornered the market with all the pedophilia rampant throughout the church and its leaders that do it and the ones who cover it up. And the commercialization of the church like the "Queen of the Universe" that they just happened to build next to Disney World....lol

I like to compare what church's and "christians" actually do as opposed to the instructions from Jesus in the bible....and so far...what I have seen and read is not at all like the bible....

I'm not lumping all christians together because I know fabulous christians that talk the talk and walk the walk....but it seems like the people struggling the hardest to grasp control are the biggest liars and hypocrites...like the republican hopefuls....kwim...

Tinka said...

No Michael my dear. I didn't read the second half of yesterdays comments until just now and I see you have done a lot of research on many religions. It was the "Kyrie eleison" that caught my eye. I thought maybe you were an altar boy in your youth. I don't recall anyone but Catholics use those words. Then again maybe it is in the Anglican religion. Unlike you I have not studied other religions. You seem to know a lot about many
topics. I have however seen a lot of people who call themselves religious who are in fact very racist, judgemental and hypocritical. I think that is very sad.

Off to my farms.

Has anyone watched "Rosie?"

The ratings are really bad. D-list guests. I have already started fast forwarding thru it..

She said she is not worried about the ratings... because "if you build it they will come"..

When they have the little game segment they are giving away socks and ear wax removal systems for prizes.

The band leader is to introverted to speak...and shes lousy.

The set is too dark...

I'm disappointed....

Good morning, Owls!

Tina I think you look quite lovely, especially in your new Crocs. I like the idea of that note pad you bought. I hadn't thought of those old ticket books in a long time....and, yes, those prized E tickets!

Just_Lin said...

Zona Thanks for the blog today. You should try picking up a camera again, even if it is digital. I don't even own a camera anymore since they all became digital, except my phone has one. When my children were babies, I took pictures of them using a Konica. With that camera you look down into a view finder. I had all sorts of lenses for it and used to know how to set f stops and all that. That was a lifetime ago. I did get some great shots and enjoyed the process.

Just_Lin said...

Shirley You didn't splat today. Are you feeling okay? You know, professional photographers take hundreds of pics just to get one or two that they really like.

Just_Lin said...

Michael You are quite the fountain of information. You haven't mentioned Belle recently. How is she doing?

Just_Lin said...

Tinka I think farming has taken up too much of my time, too. Now that I have a new computer, it's taking up less of my time, though.

J/L....

Belle is fine...lol....she spends a lot of time outside chasing squirrels...and the rest of the time inside looking out the windows and doors wishing she was chasing squirrels...

Even at night I have to take her out to play. She has 3 close doggie friends from next door that she hangs with. She is really bossy with them. I don't know where she gets that...kind of a control freak...

and I love her friends...they love getting petted and loved on but if they get to close to me and Belle sees it she makes them get back. And they are BIG dogs...Belle is itty-bitty...

I don't think they are very well cared for so we leave a 40 pound bag of dog food in the garage and leave a door open so they can go in and eat all day and until we lock up for the night. And sometimes if I feel like it...I'll scare up a mess of somethin' tasty for em in the kitchen...they will eat just about anything if I put enough parmesan cheese on it....

Happy Monday Owls. I hope everyone is getting a good start to a new week.

Tina, You do look georgeous. Is that notepad you bought acid free? If not, you may not you may not want to use it in your scrapbook.

Shirley, My son Chad has a fancy-dancy camera and takes hundreds of pics. Then he puts them up on his computer and deletes most of them. Good thing he doesn't have to buy film.

Tinka, Making CDs is a great idea. They will last forever.

Michael, Interesting song.

J/L, what kind of computer did you get? I have had so much trouble with my computer even though it isn't that old, that I've been thinking of getting a new one.

Zona, I love this song. Thanks for submitting it.

Just_Lin said...

Shirley Glad to see all is normal with you.

Just_Lin said...

SacBarb It may be the same as yours. LOL It's a HP Pavilion. So far, so good. I still have to download my Office Works on it so I can do my job. I got it at Costco because they have a very good return policy and add on their own 2 yr warranty to all their TV's and computers.
