Shirley. Good splatting to you . You look so very lovely in first and in second. I'm not usually here so early so I think I should at least get an honorable mention.

Just Lin I will trade places with you and you can be the most beautiful today! How's that?

Good Morning Shirley and Just_Lin. Happy Friday to you both. Just a couple more days and I will be finished decorating. My daughter and granddaughter are coming tomorrow to help. I am thankful for that.

Michael - I loved the video. Who knew the song could be sung that way. Hope the Jewish people in the audience weren't offended by it. Thanks for sharing.

Checking my farms and off to Christmas land. Have a great day all owls everywhere.

Tinka I was up early today and actually bought a new garland to put across the top of the fireplace mantle. It's looking pretty there. It's one small step in the decorating project.

Michael Watched the vid. I liked the little dance number best of all.

Hello from Captain Smartypants director and Kislev Cowboy creator Eric Lane Barnes. Glad you're all enjoying the video! If anyone is ever in Seattle, please be sure to check out Seattle Men's Chorus (home of Captain Smartypants) You can do so by going to www.seattlemenschorus.org or www.captainsmartypants.org.

Cheers

Hello Captain!

I used to arrive first with a BAM!! It has morfed to several other things...such as splat!!!

Getting here first in the morning is a goal at this blog....lol

I have enjoyed that version of Dreidel for a couple of years (this video) thought I would share it with everyone else today...

Great to have you drop by with the info! Happy Holidays!

Oh Eric!

So glad you don't mind us sharing your videos....

Tinka...

I think the Jews in the audience enjoyed it very much...chances are better that some of the goyim weren't familiar with Hava Nagila....lq

You couldn't really see but I believe the performer that tipped his hat had a menorah cut in his hair...

To Michael et al - of course I don't mind. I love that folks are still enjoying this video which we recorded about 4 years ago. It's made its way around the internet several times and always sees a resurgence around the holidays.
My favorite story concerning the video was when my best friend from college Elyse's aunt in Israel sent her an email with the video link in it. Elyse hadn't seen the video before but she has seen Captain Smartypants in other concerts doing other songs. So here was a completely non-me connection, from Israel, no less. I love the many ways we can connect these days.

Splat,

ELB

BTW - our Jewish audience members loved the song. It has found a large audience among Jewish blogs and Hanukkah-specific blogs. I was also able to find the writer of the original Dreidel Song (one Samuel Goldfarb who actually was music director at a synagogue here in Seattle for many years) and was able to procure permission to use the song in this cowboy version.
And yes, David has a menorah in his hat. Josh (the soloist) has had a never-ending stream of jokes about how terrible his dreidel-spinning skills are.
CSP has done other Hanukkah songs as well: Boogie Woogie Hanukkah is another fun number, and I also wrote a flamenco-inspired 'Maoz Tzur' to honor Spain's Jews who only relatively recently have been able to have public Hanukkah celebrations. We love including many different holiday traditions in our concerts.
Hope your holidays are bright and happy.
Sorry to hijack your blog . . .

Yar she Blows Best holiday wishes to you, too. And you splat very nicely, by the way. :)
