If we only Knew....

by Sandie

This is the easiest blog I've ever written because there's nothing to say after watching this video. It says it all. It brought tears to my eyes and made me think. I hope it does the same for you.

SANDIE...that was heavy. I totally get it, and it did bring tears to my eyes. Thanks for today's blog

Sheesh Sandy, that really made me cry. So beautiful and says so much! We all need to remember that!! Especially on here where people just look like words on a screen, we are real true people who hurt, work, cry, live, smile, dream, laugh, and love. Thanks for that, so timely too. Big hugs and good job!!

Maureen: Congrats on first! You have to be quick around here. I walked away for a second and just missed it! lol :)

Zona said...

SANDIE: Wow..what a great blog! I remember when my dad was dying, and my aunt was rushing to our house to be with my mom. She said that she was weaving in and out of traffic and yelling at other drivers to get out of the way, when it suddenly dawned on her...not one of these people had any idea why she was driving so fast. What was happening in her life. And she had no idea what they might be dealing with either. It's a lesson I've remembered for 17 years...you just don't know, so try to be patient.

Good Morning Maureen. Congrats on first.

Good Morning Zona-my-Baby,Bebbie, and Lynn. I will feed Tango and Tia and then read the blog.

Lynn D said...

Ummm Shirley I went to lay down last night and my pillow was oozing with...freaking whip cream! I just bought that pillow yesterday! You have some splainin' to do Lucy!

Tinka: Mr. Lynn D and I went to see Mama Mia yesterday and had a great time. Shhhh don't tell anyone but Mr. Lynn D loves Abba's music! He gets red in the face when I tell other guys! LMAO

I agree with everyone Pierce Brosnan can't sing but it just added to the charm of the movie for me. Besides who cares if he can sing after you see him in shorts and all wet from the ocean?

Tinkatia said...

Lynn - I think Dave really liked the music too. I was watching him. He too didn't really want to admit it. He enjoyed Pierce Bronson the most because he loves him as an actor. I loved the innocence in his singing. It was from the heart. I loved all of it and will buy the DVD as soon as it is released. I am at the kitchen table watching the babies enjoy their breakfast. I will soon go down to the family room with their 'chewy' and my orange juice and will read the blog.

Hi Bebbi, Zona, Lynn and Tinka! So glad you liked the blog. It is a heavy one, and it certainly made me slow down and think.

Have a great Sunday.

Good Morning Everyone!!

Glad you had a day off yesterday!

Sandie, WOW!! Thank you for that video. It say's it ALL!

CAROL!! So many huge HUGE (((((((HUGS))))))) for you! Your Dad is in my thought's and Prayer's.

Bon, You and SIL are also in my thought's and Prayer's. (((((HUGS)))))

I'm not caught up on all the post's, I will TRY to do that.

Gonna try and get some thing's done around here today (ha) or maybe just get out and enjoy the nice weather. The latter sound's better, but, I'll just see how thing's go.

I hope you ALL have a Wonderful day!

Of course I'm up early. Gotta have my CBS Sunday Morning fix! Focus today, Bicycling in Portland and Pinocchio in Walla Walla, Coney Island and a tribute to Randy Pausch. I love the surprises~~Christmas every Sunday!

MO's #1. She is ALWAYS an inspiration!

Zona~~So very true. "You just don't know".

G'morning Bebbi, Lynn, Tink and Birdee!

Thanks again for the ice-cream social last night, Shirley....cooled the tummy, warmed the heart.

Sandie~~Haven't viewed the video blog yet. Want to give it my undivided attention. ~~bbl~~

Tinkatia said...

Lynn - I see I spelled "Brosnan"
incorrectly. Nothing like starting my morning with a typo. Anyhow he was great.

Good Morning - Bon O - How are things today?

Sandie - That was a great blog. It really made me stop and think. Sometimes I do that. If I am poorly treated by a salesman in a store I have been close to reporting him/her to the manager. Then I stop and consider, "What if he/she is having a really bad day today?" However I need to think of other people's circumstances more before I make a judgement.

DreamaTexas said...

Sandie,
Wow, you did a blog. I had seen one similar on youtube. I had thought about submitting it to Carol instead of just putting it in a Myspace bulletin. I am going to switch my Clearwire box because I'm getting a slow connection and it froze up the video.
Good morning Mo, Bebbi, LynnD, Birdie and everyone! I don't have my #2 pencil like some of you use to write notes. I've seen 18 comments but my mind is still a bit worn out so hello to anyone that I missed. That's why I never do shout outs. I never have a #2 pencil to help me along! :0)

Zona: Seeing TDK in IMAX would be awesome! :)

HI to Maureen, Bebbi, Birdee, Dreama!

Hope everyone has a fun day!

I'm seeing Miss Saigon today - YAY!! It's one of my favorites! :)

Bebbi, I couldn't have expresed myself better than you did.

I need to get the laundry started before it gets too hot. It was mid 90s here yesterday and will be the same today.

I made French Roast coffee this morning, also leaving some blueberry and cranberry muffins.

This should hold everyone til Shirley gets breakfast on the table (hint hint!) haha!

What a nice blog Sandie. It does make you stop and think. Good Afternoon Everyone. Hubbys on his way home from work, hes going to be putting new brakes on his truck. Have a good afternoon and evening!!!!!!

whabbear said...

Sandie: I loved this video, had never seen it before, and I think the point was really powerful. We should strive to treat our fellow human beings with politeness and compassion and support, because as humans, we're kind of vulnerable creatures, aren't we, with sorrows and emotional scars and needs to be accepted and hugged by our fellows.

So true!

At the end, I noticed that the video was produced by a religious organization in Arkansas. Curious, I just finished researching them on the internet. The first thing I discovered is that they are fundamentalist Christian sect who believes that every word of the Bible is God's truth.

Hmmm, I thought. A fundamentalist sect in Arkansas? Very interesting. Such groups often try to poison people's minds against gay and lesbian folks like myself. I wonder if this group does the same.

How to find out? Well, their website has a link to an online Christian bookstore. I went there and typed in the search work "Homosexuality". Lo and behold, up popped a large number of books and publications on the topic. Here's the description of just one of them:

"This comprehensive examination of homosexuality starts with the fundamental political, social, and cultural principles at stake. Christopher Wolfe delineates a reasonable and persuasive position that recognizes homosexuality as a disorder to be sympathetically discouraged, controlled, and even cured. In a strikingly original contribution, Patrick Fagan then argues that contraception has "homosexualized" heterosexual sex. As long as self-centered, rather than other-centered, love is the norm, society will be defenseless against the demands of homosexuals."

Of course, all of the gay-related books in this particular bookstore had similar themes.

How ironic that such an inspiring, moving, and thought-provoking truth could be captured so effectively in a video, when the people who created it do not really understand it or subscribe to it.

Food for thought on this, the Lord's Day, wouldn't you agree, owls?

Hello to the rest of the blog buddies that fly in!

Tinkatia said...

Whabbear - Your post was really food for thought. I just woke up as I drifted off to sleep while watching a movie I bought called "Hannah and Her Sisters". I am not quite awake enough to respond except to say
"I hear you friend". I have a feeling today's topic may have suddenly be changed to religion. I have to wake up a bit more to say any more. Love you Bear.

iteach said...

Whabby- Good point. I like how the nest makes me think about all the different sides. It so reminds me of West Wing.

Lynn D said...

Whabby I take the good and leave the bad when I read all religious materials, or that should be books by humans trying to interpret the bible.

I do not ascribe to organized religion but I do love that the video points out we are all humans struggling in our lives and you never know what the person next to you is enduring.

Because I accept that message does not mean I accept everything one organization or person abscribes too.

That is just me! But I believe in Karma too! LOL

I have recently had this conversation with some family members and I asked them if they agree with everything their Pastor or Priest preaches about and the answer was a resounding No.

I found that interesting.

Bebbilane said...

Whabby: That is food for thought! What I like is that it really does remind us that there are people with a lot of problems that maybe they don't bring out into the open and we should always look at others with compassion. It's the message, ..and it's a great message and if the people who made it don't get it, really, it is too bad for them!! Hopefully the people that made the video got it, Remember there are individuals in religions who don't subscribe to all of their religion's beliefs to the strictest forms (Thank goodness!).

I love the show Intervention! I was watching one today for a girl named Ashley. Her father is a Deacon at a church. It is so easy to see that she just needs his love and his attention but he keeps shoving "God's Love" down her throat. The interventionist told him that she wanted to hear that he loved her and that he was there for her.

Another Intervention that dealt with the religion issue was the one with Tressa. I really enjoyed watching that one and hearing that Tressa has become sober. Tressa was dealing with being a Lesbian and had very religious parents. Those make for some difficult issues, but it is good to know she overcame them!!! Rosie put a picture of her up on her website, she went on the last cruise. Her mom and dad had divorced and her mom was with her. I was so happy to see that she looked good. I hope she is still doing okay.

I think the whole message is compassion, empathy and love from the heart, not from a Book or a religion.

Bebbilane said...

lol lynnd, I think we said basically the same thing!! cool!

Bebbilane said...

Sheesh..I should have looked at tinka's message too before I wrote mine. I used "food for thought" too! lol. I just started responding to Whabby's message and didn't read any further tooooo wild.

Sandie said...

Dear Whabbear, WOW! Thanks for researching that for us. I feel bad that I didn't do that. It does have a powerful message and yet the people who created it don't get it. I guess their glasses are "rose colored" after all since they only see what they want to see.

If we put our glasses on I guess we would see "brainwashed by Fundamentalist Christian Sect" over their heads. You know, I do feel bad for them. They're missing out on a lot of love.

Thanks, Whabby!

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Whabbear trust in you to give us a whole new perspective on something that seemed so clear.

I too saw that it was produced by a religious organization. It didn't and wouldn't occur to me to look any further into it. You however brought to our attention an ugly side to this organization that we otherwise would not have seen. Hats off to you! Thank you.

hartldo said...

Good Afternoon Owls! I really liked that video. I got the message. It teaches what my mom has always taught me....You never know the struggles or burdens someone is going through, so do not judge them, and always treat people with kindness.

I grew up in a very strict Christian church and home, but my mom and I have strayed VERY far from it now. I would bet anything (especially after reading Whabbear's research) that the people who made this video think homosexuality is wrong but we must have commpassion and sympathy for those "afflicted" with "it". After all, it CAN be cured! (said in sarcastic tone) We must pray for them but never accept them. Makes me sick to think about that, but I'm sure that's what this bunch thinks. I'm surprised they didn't have a person on the video who had the caption, "Struggling with homosexuality"! Like, awwww, isn't that too bad?!? I guess it's better than bashing homosexuality but it's still judging. It's still saying someone or something is wrong. THAT is what I cannot deal with when it comes to Christianity. To me, that is the furthest thing from Christianity there is!

Just my 2 cents.

Congrats on first Maureen!

Bebbi: Mr. Hart and I watched "Addiction" today too! OMG...I kept yelling at that father to stop pressuring that girl about God, the church and the fear of hell! And both the mom & dad were acting selfish. They could only talk about what this was doing to THEM! Her addiction was hurting THEM! You can't guilt someone into rehab. I guess you CAN, but it won't work in the long run, because the girl won't be doing it for herself.

Well, enough of this heavy stuff. Thanks for breakfast Shirley! I can eat breakfast any time of day!
Hope you're doing better today. I read about the crying yesterday.....I had a "shrink" tell me once that the tears and hurt are just in there waiting to come out. Sometimes there doesn't have to be a reason for you to cry.

Oops! I was getting back on the heavy stuff again. :)

Happy Sunday Friends!

Renee Eve said...

Whabbear, thanks for researching that, as Sandie said.

Bebbi, I enjoy that show Intervention also. Probably, because I had 2 cousins die at a young age due to drugs, and one cousin who is 45 and still addicted and the family has tried everything. I just keep inforcing it on my sons and tell them look at where these 2 are due to drugs, and look at Uncle Larry, at 45 and has NOTHING!!!!! Now my cousins son in 19 and hes headed down the same road as his Uncles, sad.

I agree that somehow we came with signs we could hang over our heads. Even I'm shy signs, so many people think, some people are stuck up, when really they are shy and don't have the nerve to say hi.

Renee Eve said...

I'm sorry I have to make a correction,

It should read: I think we should come with signs. My 7 year old is being needy today, and distracted my train of thought.

DreamaTexas said...

Hi Renee Eve!
I was just whining about you not coming out to play. It was a whine done with a bawahaha! :0)
LynnD
ditto of what you said. :0)
I am one of those types of people who enjoys thinking for themselves. If my church, my friends or my family want to become the boss over me and try to change my views then I tell them NO! I don't have a problem at all listening to every view point. I find different views fascinating. I am not closed minded and never would dream of being that way so I really enjoy thought provoking topics.
Okay, gotta run! Brakes. Stopping..
Oh and hi Grandma Moses!
Okay, running again!

Bebbilane said...

renee, I am so sorry to hear that your cousin still struggles with it. I have family members that do too and it is hard for everyone. Addiction is devastating to everyone in the family. :(

Having a show like intervention is just an awesome thing. I don't know how they can still fool the people now though, the show is pretty well known. If I had an addiction, I would probably figure out that they were going to have an intervention. Unless addicted people don't watch tv?...hmmm.

I watched a little bit of that show The Cleaner today too. It is okay, I didn't realize it was based on a true story/person.

Just_Lin said...

Sandie Thank you for the video blog today. It was a wonderful message.

Mo You got here first today. We're you faster after all the weight that was shaved off of you last night? LOL

Whabbear Good for you to look behind the video camera. I am not a religious person. I do acknowledge, however, that there are certainly many parts to the bible that are wonderful tenets to live by such as "Judge not, lest ye be judged". I wish the fundamentalists remembered that one.

I hope all the owls are having a nice Sunday.

Sandie- really great blog, and Whab's research only added to it. I have plenty of opinions on people and groups that hide behind religion to advocate intolerance and hate. Thats for another day though.

I have never seen Intervention- sounds like I might want to check it out.

Mo- glad you didnt' work yesterday!

Bon Bon- my neighbor is a Hospice nurse and she is the most caring soul I know. When my SIL's Mother needed Hospice, they were the finest, caring group of people that I have ever met. You have to be a special angel to do that.

Good Evening Feathered Friends!

With regards to the video, I think I shall refrain from reading between the lines or denegrading its message because of the rest of the views of the producers of the vid. The message of the vid in it's simplicity is a great reminder of the behavior we should all strive to display. Regardless of the rest of the beliefs of the sect. I may be thinking in very elementary terms, but I think of the Golden Rule...and try to live by that.

As a retail manager, we dealt with many customers that came in with steam coming out their noses and were downright mean to the staff. I tried to reinforce to the staff that the customer may have some major shit going on in their lives and not to judge or take it personally. We may have been the first person they saw after hearing bad news or whatever. I also insisted that they be extra kind to those customers, because they may have been the only kind person they have or will encounter. 99% of the time the customer left in a much better frame of mind then when they entered.

HI to EVERYONE!!!

Yes mo, heart cath tomorrow, just don't know what time yet, I should know in the morning...

He is was very good today, and looked like a million bucks! I am very positive.....

The only issue we are having is mom is insisting he change his clothes every morning and night, and my dad won't...So this turned into a "italian" battle at the
hospital today...

The good news is that he "farted" he said he has not done that in days as he was burping...So our excitement today was CiCi farting, well as he said it "farking!" And how lucky was I, as I was right there in the room with him when he let it rip...

Lucky Star for me today!!!

Welcome to my world...

:O)

iteach said...

That tooting reminds me of my last childbirth.

It was so embarrassing, I tooted several times while I was pushing and they were not quiet ones.

Thank goodness only the nurse was in there and not the doctor.

night.owls.sb said...

And one more "italian" tid bit for the day, My cousin Timmy called my dad this morning to chat, he mentioned "zeppoles" and having a craving for them. My dad called my mom and told her to make them for Timmy...So before we left for the hospital, Mom was making "zeppoles"

Just another day in my life :O)

iteach said...

Okay, you stumped this Italian girl, what are they?

night.owls.sb said...

Hi Iteach:
Tooting is a much better word to use, and I do believe (or what I have heard) many births include "farking"

Maureen said...

CAROL...hmmmmm, since he was burping a lot and he had chest pains...did they check his gall bladder? I know I am not a doctor...I only play one on t.v!!

You surely are lucky to have been there when he "farked"...a multi sensory memory to cherish!!

I was so worried that as he was pulling on my legs and having me bend in contortionistic stances I would accidentally fark!Luckily (for him) I never did! The last day he was my therapist, I actually asked him if that happened a lot...he said it did

Thank you Carol.

Donna, good luck with your mom and testing tomorrow. My hubby is taking his mom to the doctor tomorrow too.

She had surgery on her bladder this week. Something about it hanging to low and he tied it up.

Fark....lol...

I love your description of things...

iteach said...

Carol those sound yummy.

iteach said...

And I'm not talking about the farks.

Maureen said...

ITEACH...thanks for clarifying that!!!! LOL!!

Mo:
Oh yes, such a memory, this memory goes into the same memory box, as when he had a kidney stone, and the bag broke that was connected to his kidney....

Yep, that memory box, is sure getting a ear full....

night.owls.sb said...

iteach:
Geez thanks for telling us, as I so would have wondered :O)

hartldo said...

Thank you iteach. Mom does a pretty good job of taking care of herself, and also of my dad, who is disabled. But she will need me tomorrow because they are putting her under for this test.

My husband has to go to his parents' house almost every day. They are always needing something done, or his mom needs the bandage changed on her foot (messed up by rh. arthritis), or he has to make sure they're taking their meds correctly and that they've eaten, etc.etc.etc.

What is it they call us? The "Sandwich Generation"?

hartldo said...

Thanks for the positive thoughts Maureen!

iteach said...

Speaking of farking, I hear it all the time at my job.

I will be reading a beautiful story to the class and then someone accidently lets is slip. Then before you know it, there are giggles, hand motions, or kids gagging. The end of the beautiful story. Then I go into my big lecture that accidents happen and we don't laugh.

hartldo said...

Okay, I know I'm new here and this is probably TMI, but......
When I was in delivery with my daughter, well, I went a little further than just farting. And my friend who was video taping the birth got that crap (literally) on tape!

hartldo said...

Yes, iteach, I can completely relate. I work at a K-3 school and farking seems to be such entertainment for that age group.

night.owls.sb said...

Donna:
It could be called that, However I just stick with ha ha "your turn"

I say this in the most loving way..

:O)

iteach said...

Oh, thank you , so much for sharing that story. It made me laugh.

Maureen said...

When my friend and her family came to visit a few years ago, I bought her sons these remote control farking machines. I specifically told them they could not take them to school or in their carry-on bags on the plane. While they were at the hotel, the boy set them under the couch in the lobby and as someone sat down they activated it by remote control! People were so embarrassed! I admit, we as the adults were cracking up!! Well, her 12 year old decided not to heed my warning about taking it to school. As the class was engrossed in the standardized testing, he let the machine rip...and then spent the rest of the day in the principal's office! They were going to flunk him on the test, but they did allow him to take it! Needless to say, the farking machines next found their way to the trash cans!!

Thank you Mo, Bebbi, Zona, Lynn, Tinka, Birdee, Bon'O, Dreama, Renee, Amicus, EBJ, iteach, Shirley, Whabbear, Grandma Moses, Donna, Just-Lin, Donna, Joey, Carol, and Goldie for the comments about the blog/video today.

Iteach, it's so nice you shared that with your step-daughter. I'm going to make my kids watch it, too.

Mo, that sandwich sounds awesome!

Carol, best wishes for your Dad's testing tomorrow.

Donna, best wishes for your Mom's testing tomorrow.

Okay, back to farks, tied-up bladders and dough balls!

iteach said...

Sandie- do you have any tooting stories?

Mo-that so sounds like a 12 year old. Even though he got into trouble, he will laugh about it when he gets old.

hartldo said...

LOL! I bet your friend was just THRILLED with those gifts for her sons, Maureen.

hartldo said...

Thank you for the good wishes for my mom, Sandie.

Sandie said...

Well, since you asked iteach, my Dad and my oldest son have the fark gene. They are both disgusting. They say they can't help it. Sometimes when we're out shopping, I 'll walk down an aisle and know my Dad was just there. I have to run to get away and usually find him at the other end laughing.

iteach said...

That is funny Sandie!

iteach said...

Mr. Iteach is upstairs in bed thinking frisky thoughts and now I have toots on the brain.

hartldo said...

The fark gene....LOL@Sandie! That must be what is wrong with my husband.

Well, I'm off to bed. I have to be up in 5 hrs.

Hope everyone sleeps well and has a great week!!!

Sandie said...

And my oldest son is working this summer so he gets up early and I actually wake up because I hear him farking the whole time he's eating his breakfast.

night.owls.sb said...

Mo:
They are boys, would you ever think boys would not get a kick out of a farking thingy!!! And of course do excatly what you told them not to.

Geez, that was funny tho...

Sandie said...

uh oh, iteach. I guess you don't much feel like farking tonight. :)

iteach said...

Good night Donna,

I'm off to the bedroom too. Have a good night everyone.

night.owls.sb said...

Sandie:
He prob thinks he is alone in the morning so he lets them rip.....

Little does he know is that you are counting them, as you are making a memory as well...

Sandie, you just made me spit up my drink. :)

Maureen said...

Also while at the hotel, there was an older couple that came in with a little pooch. As the dog was walking, they would set off the machines and this poor old couple thought their dog was baking AND farking! Red faced, they took the pooch outside.

SANDIE...stop making your son cauliflower, onions, broccoli and cabbage for breakfast!!!!!!

Sandie said...

LOL @ Mo! I think he farks when you just say those words!

Carol - Prayers for your dad. Hope he has a good night.

Donna Jo - Good luck with your mom's test tomorrow. I will be thinking of you.

Iteach - Oh how I remember those days and incidents when we had to have the "accidents happen" talk. I guess classrooms never change.

Good Night All. Stay Safe.

Delores We have some of the same friends, people I really, really like alot, but I have to ask, WTF????? You are not a regular commmenter here in the nest so maybe you don't realize that we are going to do our best to treat each other with respect. We are, after all, adults and should act as such.

Anne Frank was one of the Jewish victims of Nazi persecution during the second world war. After Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940, increasingly severe anti-Jewish measures began here as well. The Frank family tried to escape by going into hiding. On July 1942, Otto Frank, Edith Frank-Hollander and their daughters Margot and Anne hid in this building on the Prinsengracht. They where later joined by Mr. and Mrs Daan, their sun Peter and Mr. Dussel. The building consists of two parts : a front house and a back annex. Otto Frank's business was located in the front house. The uppermost floors of the back anexe became the hiding place. After more than two years the group was betrayed and deported. Anne and Margot died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen in March 1945, only a few weeks before this concentration camp was liberated. Otto Frank, the only member of the group to survive, returned after the war.
During the hiding period Anne Frank kept a diary. In it she described daily life in the back anexe, the isolation and the fear of discovery. Anne's diary survived the war: after the betrayal it was found by Miep Gies, one of the helpers. When it was confirmed that Anne would not be returning, Miep gave the manuscripts to Otto Frank. In 1947 the first Dutch edition appeared. Since then the diary has been published in more then 55 languages

Delores As far as who the first "big mouth" is, I think you've got that covered. Bwahahahaha!!!!! BTW, I'm 61 years old. I don't pipe down for anyone.

This just isn't the place for personal disputes. You're throwing shit at all of us by disrespecting this place, IMHO.

Good Morning Everyone! I'm up and getting ready to leave to go get Mom to go to the hospital for her test. Just so you'll all know, it's a colonoscopy. My grandma died of colon cancer, so we go through this every yr. Yesterday was probably the worst day for Mom, as any of you who have been through this knows.
Thank you, Tinka, for your good wishes for my mom. I'll check back in with all of you later today. I'll be waiting for word on Carol'd dad too!

To all my FRIENDS here in the nest.

I deleted the posts that were taken out.

CAROL has worked too hard to make this a loving place and has asked nothing more then for the posts to be respectful. I was highly offended by the posts that were put up by an infrequent poster that has disregarded what we are trying to stand for here.

It has been said over and over...if ya don't like someone that is your business...don't drag everyone else into it.

Look at real life...there are real problems many are dealing with and these bogus childish games do not belong here.

If I overstepped my boundaries, then I am sorry. But I am not sorry for deleting those posts.

Carol does not deserve to have such crap spewed on her blog. We are guests in her space so act like a guest.

Again, don't blame Carol for the deletions...blame me.

CAROL, I am soooooooo sorry.

Thanks for cleaning that up Carol! Unfortunately, I had read it first:(:(

ohhh, thanks Maureen I meant:)
