oh my, i got lost on you tube last nite
i went to look for "sugarland" as mek
recommended a song from them, once
the song was over, i needed to listen to
more, from there i think i ended up in
germany, cause someone was speaking
a funny language and drinking a beer!
i can't believe how you can find anything
that is needed, years ago if someone
recommended something you would have
to wait to go to a certain store to find it,
and it could take days, now with a click
of a mouse, i have what i needed
i am trying to remember when this actually
happened, when did all this ease of finding
stuff begin!
this computer craze has taken over, i find
myself shopping more and more on-line
it is so simple, why would i need to go to
a mall, or shopping center when i can get
it on-line?
i have also been taking videos with my phone
the funny thing is i had no idea that i could
even do that, i just happen to stumble upon it
one day, and the best part is i uploaded them to
you tube, yep i am a "you tuber" i find myself
going to my account and looking at the silly things
i have recorded, and let me tell you, silly they are!
when my nephew graduated from college, we, his
wonderful family were a little bored with the
4 hour ceremony, so we did what any family would
do, we kept going outside to catch a break!
my dad and my cousin timmy (who is blind) were
going stir crazy, so a impromptu dance was in order
it just happened, with no explanation, and no meaning
i guess it was just time to dance
so i share with you today a little camera phone
action, its not very clear, but you will get the point
and hopefully have a chuckle, as i and my family
do every single time we watch it!
so yes, i am a proud "you tuber" and yes
that is me laughing!

Lynn - I hope your relatives are found quickly. We had an Amber alert yesterday about a 10 year old girl who went missing up island. She was found this morning. That Amber alert thing is great. It's too bad we didn't have it years ago.
I agree Carol how fast we are moving in technology. It was just a few years before I retired from teaching that we had one computer in the school and we each got it one half hour a day. A few children had them at home. Now there are three computer labs and most of the children have their own computers in their bedrooms.
I am going to order a Mac Book today or tomorrow so that I can take it to meetings and to be able to check on what the Night Owl's are doing in the middle of the night. Right now I have to walk down the stairs to find out. Things are getting so easy.

I guess I am not a great "You Tuber"
Last night we had a demonstration of the new Iphone. It is coming to Canada tomorrow. They are expecting the same long line-ups that they had in the states a few months ago. They are fantastic little gadgets. You can do everything on them that you can do on a regular computer even watch movies. Actually you can do more. It has a GSP and will tell you where you are and where is the nearest McDonald's (if that is what you are looking for).
With a contract they are now only $199 which is much lower than the $500 a few months ago in the States. I just don't know what they would cost a month if you used them a lot. I will check into that before I commit to a Mac Book. What choices we now have. My dad who died in 1973 couldn't believe the fact that we could watch one T.V. show while taping another. I wonder what he is thinking of all this now. Will we all have iphones in heaven I wonder?

Tinkatia: Absolutely get a MacBook! That's what I have, and I love it. Make sure you get a router installed (it connects right to your modem), and you will have wireless internet access all throughout your house. I'm typing this from my bed, as I usually do early in the morning, and loving it!
It is so true, how information and computing technology has transformed our daily lives. I can't wait to see how these technologies are going to assist us in the future!
Like, I think big advances are going to come from applied artificial intelligence applications, like natural voice interfaces, in combination with deeper penetrability of information systems into more nooks and crannies in our homes.
I want to be able to control my TV and my radios by voice instead of a remote. I want to be able to give my oven and my dishwasher operating instructions by voice. I want to control my gas heater by voice. I want my house to automatically generate my grocery list, based on automatic analysis of what my consumption habits are, and by doing an automatic inventory of what is, and isn't, in my refrigerator and my cupboards.

I am constantly amazed at how much I use the computer everyday. I never thought it would be so, as I am usually someone who resists technology.
The whole world is at our doorstep here and it is so interesting to see who or what is standing there.
Now that being said. I read whabby's post and I have seen some of the technology he is talking about on TV. I think there are some great applications but always worry about said technology going to far. I do not want to be monitored everyday.
I do wish that the great techno minds would work on applications for a self cleaning house! Now that I could seriously get into and would go into hock to have! I know robots are the answer so I wish they would hurry up and git'er done! I do not need one that will dance with Ellen. I need one that will scrub a tub and toilet!

BarbWa: I have been having problems with myspaz for the last couple of weeks. It takes sometimes 5 to six times of refreshing before I can sign in.

Funny how life has a way of balancing out. Just picked up yesterday's mail which included the check from our class action suit against the County last fall :o)....and a notice FROM the County that, effective this month, our self-paid retiree medical-only insurance went up from $491 to $572 :o(. BUMMER!

On Tuesday, I had a hair appointment so I took the book, Broadway Tails, and read the first two chapters while my color was processing. I sat there with tears streaming down my face, because the stories about the dogs are so heart touching. I finished it last night and highly recommend it for other animal lovers. It will make you laugh and cry.

Carol, I love YouTube!! When I am bored and waiting for an email from work to be sent, I will often go there and just search on words that mean something to me. Or I will watch (again) the video of my DD on her unicycle. We posted it so that my father could watch it from his bed. I am always so grateful that in his final years when he was too sick to leave his room "physically" he could travel the world wide web and look at anything he could think of. It helps us, and a lot of families that live thousands of miles apart, to keep in touch.
Berry started working for Microsoft back in 1993. When my friends would ask me where my husband works, they had no idea what Microsoft was. I had no idea how to even turn on a darn computer, but as we planned for our wedding in early '93 I realized that this man was going to request that I use the PC for just about anything I could. We designed our invitations, which back then seemed AMAZING. Now look at all of us. It just seems so normal. I also remember him coming home from work and telling me about the world wide web... and I thought "Nah, it will never make it!" THAT is why Bill Gates became richest man in the world... and I didn't. Oh well, I got Berry which made me pretty darn rich in other ways!

It was about a year ago that I started commenting as Sad n'lonely on another blog and now I'm here on this one. Since losing my job in Jan. 2007 the computer has been my companion and my entertainment. I don't have any of the other techno gadgets that some of you do. I don't even have a cell phone or digital camera. I probably would though if I could afford it.
Carol the video is now working for me.
I have not been able to get into myspace since yesterday afternoon. Whenever I click on the icon in my favorites it freezes my computer. I have cleared cookies and temp files but it hasn't made a difference. Just know that I am not ignoring you if you have sent me a message and I haven't responded.

Good Morning to all owls that flew in while I was watching Regis.
Before I get some work done I want to tell my story of how good the web can sometimes be.
Two years ago when my sister was just starting to feel sick, her grand daughter was married at Vegas. Joan wanted to go so badly but she just wasn't up to it. We found out it was possible to watch it live on the web. I invited all the family that didn't go with her. I decorated the room and the table as if it were a reception using my silver goblets for the champagne. We logged on and watched 'live' as they were married in a beautiful little chapel. She looked so gorgeous. It was the closest thing to being there and made my sister so happy. We then had a reception for the bride and groom with lots of good food and plenty of champagne. The nicest thing was that the video stayed on the computer for a couple of hours. We watched it many times before it disappeared. My mom's lodge set up the computer and invited a few of her friends in to watch and she also saw the wedding. It was so much nicer than just seeing the DVD of it later because it was live. I love this new technology. However, I don't think I will get in line tomorrow for the Iphones when they go on sale. Then again maybe I will.
iteach First in class! Congrats! I hope you have fun shopping. I could never be that disciplined to buy clothes a year ahead of time. I'd be wearing them now.

Carol Thanks for sharing the cute video. It worked fine for me. I have been really resistant to the techno stuff. It took me forever to get a computer or a cell phone. I don't know how to do much on either of them, just the basics, but I would miss them if they went away, especially the computer. The cell phone I forget to turn on most of the time but it sure is great for the long distance calls.
Barbwa, LynnD, and Shirley I'm sorry to hear you are having such trouble with MS. Did it start with the new and improved (CHOKE) sign up page?

I got my first computer in December 2006. Hard to believe it took that long to finally give in, but I'm so glad that I did!!! Not only do the kids use it for school, but I can't imagine my life without the wonderful friends that I have made because of being online!!!

Very cute video, Carol! I do think it's cool to find fun things on youtube. My kids are always showing me something they think is funny--I don't always agree. There are a couple that do crack me up. Have you all seen the little girl talking about the monster? Just type in "little girl and monster" in the search area to see it. It is SO cute. Also, "charlie bit my finger" and "buhlud" are cute, too.

Want2Sleep and MEK, I love my flip camera! I keep it in a little basket in the kitchen so I can grab it when I need it--and I grab it for my purse, too. I use it for my blog, too--I think the quality is good!
Tinka, the new iphones come out here tomorrow. I hear that it's a good time to buy a cell phone because the technology is kind of at a standstill right now--they've done just about all they're going to do for a little while.
The monthly plan for the Iphone is kind of pricey...
Want2Sleep, I agree! In fact, all these new phones do cool things but you have to pay to make them do the cool things!! I'm always trying to explain that to my daughter.
I gag every time I get our cell phone bill!! It's expensive for all five of us to have a phone. It really annoys me!

We got our computer in Dec 2006..and I was completely computer illiterate. I couldn't even figure out the mouse!! I have since learned a lot things, thanks to TINA, AMICUS and TINKA! I still need to relax and take chances so I can learn more, and have more fun with it. We don't have a cell phone, but that is going to change..possibly as soon as this weekend.
I remember reading the comics and seeing the Dick Tracy wristwatch phones..thinking how cool they were. Or the phones where you would be able to talk to someone and see them at the same time. Now phones come in every shape, size and color..and do the most amazing (MEK..LOL)things.
Technology is advancing so fast, I can't even imagine what will be next. I only know that if we can imagine it..it will probably be on the shelves soon.

Want & MEK....I talked to Katie and lunch and she said they stopped selling the flip video because they weren't a good seller. Now I don't know what to get. I just wnat something small. She has other video cameras that still fit in the palm of your hand, but bigger than that little flip video. And they tape 7-37 hours depending on how you do it. I don't know. I have time to decide though

robert got a call this morning that they canceled our trip. they said that there were not enough people signed up for it. so now we leave a week earlier, but with more flights. originally it was Portland non-stop Business Class flight to Frankfurt on Lufthansa then a flight to Munich. Return flight was Lufthansa from Zuerich to Portland Business Class. Now it's First Class Portland to Denver, Business Class Lufthansa from Denver to Frankfurt, flight to Munich. Return flight it Business Class Lufthansa to Dulles, first class Dulles to Portland. And they are giving us a $200 credit.
How does that sound Carol?????

Hi Owls...here is the scoop that I know on what some of you are talking about: My husband got me a flip video for Christmas at Best Buy for $149. HE took it out of the box last month but we haven't used it yet. Hey, I have been trying to learn this darn Blackberry. The Blackberry costs us $30/mo to use the internet but what is surprising is my husband has the IPhone and it costs us $20 per month and we are on the same plan.

ZONA: You must be MUCH OLDER than I am to remember those Dick Tracy watches. Did you used to turn one of those cranks to call out of your house :) (in my Little House on the Prairie voice)!!
BARBWA: How long will you be in Denver? It sounds like they gave you a pretty good trip..first class..now that will be fun! When do you go?
TINA: Am I reading correctly, you are "thinking"about going without a computer for three weeks? I think that would be like going to rehab and doing without!!
I wanted to make a couple comments on the last few days blog. We had my two granddaughters overnight and we up in the mountains yesterday for the day. I was telling them on the way home what great manners they have and how proud of them we are. The youngest one said to me, "well Nana, we learned it from mom and she learned it from you". It so fit in with the blog the other day but it also made me feel so good. If I would have known how great grandkids are I am telling you--I would have four or five kids and made them all get married!
I think having family around and trying to get together sometimes is really fun. We have lost so many of the older parents and find that some of us now are the "older" part of the family and I think it is so important to keep that going and pass it down to our children, etc.
Ok..last subject. I got my first computer in 1999. I barely had a clue how to do anything except send cards. I at first didn't even know how to email, so if I wanted to tell someone something I had to send them a card and say it in the card!! This is also the year that my husband passed away and I agree with you SHIRLEY, it can be a great friend and past-time. I by then had learned more and spent many hours on that computer.

dianne....we now leave sept 13. i have no idea how long we will be in denver until we get the updated itinerary. i'm just hoping we are not going to have to make a run to the next plane!!!!!
i'm leaving to pick up mom for a late movie. i had to work 8-2 today. hubby is off to sandy oregon to be in a parade and won't be home until 10-11. so when i get back from the movie i'm going to hook up the Wii Fit and play!!!!!
