We owls have written many a word about our beloved pets. I love hearing about your fur babies! So, on this Sunday, March 22nd, the fourth birthday of my beloved poodles, I thought I’d tell you a few things about mine.
I grew up with toy poodles but once when I was a child, I met my first standard poodle. I swore that one day I’d have one! But, the time never seemed quite right for a big dog. When we lived in Korea we were given a little maltese (we think he’s mixed with terrier, too). He’s been a great little dog, although rather yappy, nervous and okay, mean. LOL! Poor little Ippuni (means cute in Korean) is 14 now and losing his sight and hearing. He’s mean as spit. But, we love him anyway.
When we moved to Georgia, I thought it was time for that standard poodle I’d always wanted. My hubby wanted to wait until Ippuni passed. My kids thought that giant poodles had to be the most embarrassing dog you could ever have. (Now they adore them and say they will have them one day, also.) One day when I was getting Ippuni groomed, I noticed a flyer on the wall for standard poodle puppies. You know I snatched that phone number clear off the wall! I called the woman that day, told my husband I was “just going to see them,” but he knew it was all over. The kids and I drove over the next day and she had four puppies left out of seven. They were all boys. The kids were immediately drawn to the runt, who had been rushed to the vet when he was born because his mom accidently bit his stomach open when she was biting off the umbilical cord. Miraculously, he lived and was just fine. He was apricot but as a puppy was more of a red color—he was gorgeous!
But, my eyes locked with the cream colored puppy, and I was absolutely taken. Something in those soulful eyes just drew me in. My kids didn’t agree. So, being the Mom that I am, I gave in to the kids. We left that day with the red/apricot puppy and named him Remy Sebastian, a nice French name. As we drove away, I looked one more time into the eyes of the cream colored puppy and my heart broke.
Let me stop a minute to give you a little poodle background. Poodles are credited to the French but actually originated in Germany, where they got their name from the German word for puddle, since they are dogs bred to retrieve water fowl. Standard poodles were the first poodles, and later bred down to miniature and toy breeds. Their “poodle cut” was done for a reason—their tail ends were shaved for speed in the water leaving their chests covered in fur for warmth in the water and their heads (top knots) and tails were left poofy and ball-like so that they could be seen while swimming after water fowl. Poodles are the most recognized breed in the world due to their unique look. They are extremely athletic, graceful, loyal and witty—honestly! They often get a bad name because people think they are frou-frou, girly dogs. They are anything but!
Remy was a great puppy and we adored him. We were going on vacation a few weeks after we got Remy and the breeder had offered to watch him that week so that we wouldn’t have to kennel him. When we returned to pick up Remy, she had one puppy left—my soulful-eyed beauty. He came right to me and put his head on my lap. I picked up my phone, called my husband and literally begged to bring him home. After a few “are you crazy’s and “no way’s” he gave in. We left with Remy and Luc Marcel (another great French name!).
Luc and I have a connection that I can’t really explain. I swear he knows what I’m thinking. He has to be near me all the time and if we’re sitting or napping together he has to have at least one paw on me at all times. I call him my gentle giant. I know we were meant to be together.
Although they are a lot of work (they have to be brushed and groomed regularly), they are the best dogs I’ve ever had. They adore us as we do them. They also are very attached to each other (my vet calls them the “Brokeback Brothers” as they huddle together and lick each other when they go to the vet—I think they’re reassuring each other that everything will be okay.) Even little Ippuni has gotten his second wind around them. Today is their fourth birthday and I pray we have many more years together!
Happy Birthday, Luc and Remy!!

Awwww-riiiight!! Off to read the blog!
CPGEM: That certainly was an early post time today! :)
SANDIE: I was at the vet last year when I saw my first standard poodle in 'real life'. I was really surprised at how big they were. I was used to toy poodles. Standards are so regal..and they are just beautiful. I love the pics of Luc and Remy, they really are gorgeous dogs. And what personalities..oh my!!
Happy Birthday Luc and Remy! Oh, and an extra hug to Ippuni, even if he is getting a little grouchy. Afterall, it happens to all of us. ;)
Thanks for the great blog today SANDIE!
SANDIE: Nikki is sitting here beside me and I think she would like me to mention her too. Hmmmm..she is still a nut, that hasn't changed..but she has also proven herself to be very smart.
She puts her chin on my leg all the time...and looks up at me with those golden brown eyes. I just wish I knew what she was thinking. Or..sometimes..maybe not!!! ;)
Morning Glories!
Zona you got first! Yahoo!
Sandie, Luc and Remy are beautiful! I have seen standard poodles before and they are a large breed. Very beautiful tho. I would consider one but the grooming might be a challenge. Heck I have problems with my own. LOL
Great story and I am so happy you went back and got Luc.
I feel a wee bit better today. I think it must be the antibiotics. So maybe I did not just have a cold.
Be back in a bit.
shhhhhhhhhh- quiet please, I have a teeny tiny headache...
morning zona, congrats of first
Happy Birthday puppies!
Please forgive yesterdays drunk blogging- but I had a blast! Jodi made me ---lol .
Lynn, glad you are feeling better.
Off to make breakfast for the whole gang. For some reason I felt it necessary to invite everyone back over for that too!! Jodi are you coming?
AREA 51:
GOLDIE: LMAO @ your post yesterday! I can tell you had fun! BTW..are you up yet?? :D
JODI: Just for you... :)
CPGEM: So, will you be running around today? I hope you have fun! :)
BEAR: Right... ;)
MO: We swim...honest! And pretty well too! We even have a light that changes colors...cool! ;)
BEBBI: I'm going over to check out the video now..thanks!
MARY: LOL..sure I'll go shopping..don't know if I can go spending though! ;)
SACBARB: I just found out that the century plants are in the aloe family. Mr. Z's dad had one and it had to be over 10 ft. tall!
goldie..you are up..shhhhh..lol..
lynnd..whispering for goldie..i'm glad you are feeling better... :)
9 looking for a 6..for tina..
oh wait it's good that 9 couldn't find a 6...i forgot.. ;)
Goldie your blogging was hilarious! It took me a minute to figure out that Jodi had not gotten that drunk in the space of one post and that it was you! Man I would love to come party with you guys. LMAO
Zona I can tell I am better this morning as I have only been coughing up one lung and some stomach lining. Yesterday it was both lungs, stomach lining and my spleen. Progress!
LYNND: I'm glad to see you haven't coughed up your sense of humor!! :D
I'll be back in a little while..need to rest my eyes and my knee. Getting old: Phooey!
Have a great day everyone!
Sandie ~ What a cute blog! Loved the pics too!! It's kinda funny how puppies can chose you. We were "just looking" when we got my Yorkie...We were at a breeders and she had crates stacked on top of each other for the smaller dogs. I had my back turned to the crates and was talking to my SO when this little paw was placed on my shoulder, I turned around and looked into the cutest face with big pleading brown eyes. Needless to say, I was a goner. We also have a strong bond, he is totally "my" dog, he loves everyone but if I'm home he is by my side or following me around. I feel the same about him too. I've had other dogs and loved them all, but I was never as intense as I am with this dog. It's hard to believe that he's eight years old....They should stay young forever!!
P.S. To avoid any confusion...the errant Basset is my SO's daughters problem....err....dog :)
Congrats on first, Zona! Thanks for the kind comments and give Nikki a hug for me.
Hi LynnD! LOL@your own grooming! I'm so glad you're feeling a bit better today. Seems like that nasty bug has been clinging to you way too long!
Goldie, **whispering** I hope your headache is soon gone. I'm so glad you had a good time with your adorable grandbabies.
Hi Scirish, your little Yorkie sounds so sweet.
My company left!! Now I have lots to catch up on. We promised Luc & Remy a long birhday walk, too. Have a lovely Sunday!
Good Morning Zona-My-Baby - Congrats at being first. You are first on this blog for me everyday.
Happy Sunday hooters!
Sandie what an awesome tribute to the boys! Brokeback Brothers cracked me up! :)
I think Poodles are so great, I met lots of them when I worked for the vet clinic. I will never forget little Bubbles, an apricot teacup poodle, she was so tiny and precious.
Our neighbors had a small grey poodle named Gidget, who was delightful!
I understand the love you have for your animals! Thank you for the lovely tribute this morning :)
Poe is making his "emptying the dishwasher" sounds over and over, it sounds like dishes and glasses clinking together. It is very LOUD. lol
I wish he could actually empty the dishwasher for me! haha
Congrats on 1st today Miss Zona!
Goldie your drunk post made me laugh! Sounds like a good time was had at your house yesterday!
Ugh, I need to get the laundry started, then going to the store so we have some food in the house.
From Area 51: Iteach, MR. EBJ is going to plant the ingredients for SALSA! Tomatoes, jalapenos, green onion, etc.
The people who owned the house before us had a playground area on 1 side of the house. We gave the playground equipment away and now have a nice size area that is getting dug up for a garden.
Hopefully my brown thumb will not have any affect on his plants!
Hope everyone has a nice Sunday! We had rain storms on and off all night, and now the sun is peeking out!
Good Morning Lynn - I hope you are feeling better. Take it easy today.
Sandie - I loved your blog and I love looking at pictures of Remy and Luc. Give them a Happy Birthday hug from me too.

I did it. Good on me.
Good Morning Goldie - I missed your drunk blogging. I must go back and find it.
Good Morning Scirish - I am happy to see you are such a dog lover too. I love dog people.
Good Morning East Bay J. - I had toy poodles for years. I loved them. Then they became so popular they were overbred here and it was difficult to find a poodle that came from a healthy line. My last 3 poodles lasted only 7 years and then their bones or lungs gave out. I switched to a Black Lab and a Golden Retriever. They were fun years but I couldn't walk the two of the them together. I would be pulled in opposite directions. I guess they should have gone to school.
In 1997 I got my first Bichon and now I am in love with that breed. I got Tia when Tango was 9 so I would have an heir and a spare. I am go glad I did. They are great fun.

Happy Birthday to Remy and Luc!!!!
Sandie - thank you for sharing Remi and Luc's birthday with us today..
Isn't it amazing how a puppy can look at you and you are toast!! You must make it part of your family..
Zona....
Congrats on first.. yes, it seems it is a early blog.. I like to switch the times up.. :O)
cpgem - good morning...
Sandie,
Love your poodles, so darn cute, and as big as they look they probably act like they are 2lbs.. I love the first pic, so cute how Luc tilts his head when you call him.. It is amazing how attached we get to our pets..
Thanks for writing the blog and sending it off to me..
Morning to.. Zona, Lynnd, Goldie, Mek, Tinka, Scirish...
I was out early 2day, we went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, my eldest nephew and his girlfriend met us there.. The pancakes there are delish, I do not order them, as they lay in my stomach for 3 days, I just tasted my dad's. I had eggwhites and bacon.. oh, and the cinnamon apples, love those suckers.. It was so not crowded, I was in shock, normally there is a 45min wait. Even when we left it still was not crowded. We talked about it the whole way home, how the economy changed everything...
Mek..
Happy Sunday!!!
I am off for the day.. I have lots to do..
See ya all later..
cpgem - I LOVE Cracker Barrel!!
I need some advise and I thought what better place to get it than here.
My mum has always wanted a string of pearls. I was just speaking with my friend a little while ago about mum. I mentioned how my sister Robin wants to get mum a string of pearls, but I said there was no way we could afford it. My friend spoke up and said she had some pearls and that we could have them for mum. She said she can keep them and be buried with them if she wants. I didn't know what to say.
What would you guys do? It is a very expensive gift and she doesn't want anything for them. Would you accept them?
What a heartwarming story to wake up to SANDIE. I would just like to reach out and give them hugs. Luc, Remy & Ippuni are most fortunate to live with you and your family.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LUC & REMY.
There is a standard poodle, named Kelly, who comes to the veterinary hospital who everyone adores. She comes bouncing in and jumps up on the chair for her biscuit. She knows how cute she is too. She has so many pictures in her medical chart that it looks more like a photo album than a chart.
Shirley, yes I would accept them for your mom.
What a loving, thoughtful gesture from your friend.
Can you imagine how your mom will feel when she gets her pearls?
MEK, Paula seems to be doing AMAZINGLY well. We were talking last night, and can't believe how she has improved since Monday.
Monday, she had huge, dilated pupils, walking into things, not eating, just very lethargic.
Even hear hair seemed "greasy".
We started the Norvasc that night, and 4 days later she seemed completely normal, hair isn't greasy feeling, sight has returned (not sure if it's back completely, but enough for her to get into things and jump into her favorite window to sun herself).
Her pupils are still pretty big, but she doesn't look stoned any more. You can see some pretty green color now.
She has an appt. with the eye dr. on Thursday, they will re-check her blood pressure and see if there is anything further that can be done for her eyes.
How is your little angel Tug doing? And is she getting along with the others ok?
I bought stuff for MEK dinner today at the store :)
SHIRLEY - I would accept the pearls. To be able to bring happiness to another is way more *valuable than any amount of money could bring. What a dear friend she must be. I remember you everyday Shirley.
* or I guess that should read compensation. Hopefully you get my drift.
Good morning to ZONA, LYNN(happy you are so much better), GOLDIE(SAYING QUIETLY), SCIRISH(nice dog rescuer), TINK (how is Tia doing), MEK, CAROL, EBJ(so happy Paula is so much better)
A great Sunday to all. See you later
50
Thank you, Tinka! Your babies are so precious, too.
EBJ, I'm so glad Paula is better. Poe cracks me up with the dishes! LOL
Thank you, MEK! When is little Tug's birthday? Is he about 6 months old?
Thank you, Carol! I hope you get all your chores done. :)
Lani, it's so good to see you again! I hope this means you're feeling good and got all your stuff accomplished. Luc has a photo album at the vet's, too--only it's x-rays of his tummy from the batteries, rocks and inhaler he's eaten. :(
Shirley, I know I would be having the same feelings as you but I think you should accept the gift. I would give you pearls for your Mom, too, if I had them. It would make me feel great to do that and I'm betting your friend feels the same way.
Shirley - YES, accept the pearls. What a thoughtful and heartfelt gift from your friend.
Lani - good morning...
EBJ - we'll be having 'the dinner' tonight - as I was out WAY too late last night to fix it!!
:-)
Glad Paula is better!!
Goldie -
HOW ARE YOU FEELING SO FAR??!!!!
Sandie - Tug is only 13/14 WEEKS old - she is actually VERY calm today - SO, I am NOT going to interupt this!!!
:-)
it's like the calm before the massive storm!!!
we estimate that she was born mid December..
OH - I wanted to let everyone know - Tonite's "Extreme Home Makeover" is a family in Tucson - the little girl is very ill and I guess Super nanny is even going to be on the show for some reason..
anyway - I will be interesting to see the final outcome - since it's been on the news non-stop since 'the team' was here.....
They are going to do a special one hour thing locally before the national show airs.
MEK and Zona: LOL! ;)
Shirley: I, too, would accept the gift. Your Mom deserves it.
Sandie: Poodles aren't by favorite breed of dog, but I defend to the death your right to love them!
OK, heading back to A51 in search of a drunk blog...
OK, more from A51:
First, let's see if I am getting this right... cleaning up a typo or two, Goldie is (was) glad that she
"don't have to drive God"...
ROFLMAO!!! God was relieved too, honey... he gets nervous around drunk drivers!
SacBarb and 'weenie: ;)'s to you as well!
Oh MEK, that's right! Now I remember that Tug is just a little baby!
Hi Whabbear, thank you! LOL. That's okay, my hubby and boys used to say the same thing. They all swore they'd never walk them. Now my oldest son says they're chick magnets. I hear bears like them, too, though. ;)
Hmmm, I'll have to check that bear rumor out! Meanwhile, if poodles are chick magnets, your son has provided another good reason for me NOT to get one! LOL!
Happy Sunday Owls.
I'm just popping in between Church and ushering.
Sandie, Happy Birthday to the fur kids. I loved the pics. As soon as I settle down and quit be-boppin' all over the place, I'm going to rescue a puppy. If I got one now, it would have to spend too much time being boarded.
I'm off to the theater now. Have a great day everyone.
Oh, congrats on #1 Zona.
I'll have to read the comments when I get home.
oh

Shirley:
Accept the pearls. Your friend obviously wants her to have them or would not have offered. Sometimes there is as much pleasure in giving as receiving.
MO - I'm watching my favorite (NOT) sport - but Mr.MEK insisted that we watch....... looks like AZ is pulling away from Cleveland State...
Zona, 1st! Congrats!
Sandie,Happy Birthday to Luc & Remy!
Loved you blog about them. I have never seen a standard poodle in person. What is their averg. height & weight?
LynnD,glad you are feeling better.
Goldie,do we still have to whisper?
Hope you tiny headache-caused-by-Jodi is gone lol!
Whabbear, LMAO on not wanting the "chick" magnets!!
Kgirl, Hi stranger! congrats on the 69, though I don't know how you did it all by yourself lol!
MEK,i will whisper to you to, as not to disrupt Tug shhhhh!
EBJ, I was so glad to hear that Paula was doing better! Good luck at the eye Drs.
I posted this in area 51 late so I am re-posting for those who were asking about my visit with my Niece Jaimie.
Good evening everyone. I have been soooo busy. Yesterday I had lunch with my Niece Jaimie. I bought her some job interviewing cloths. It was fun watching her try on all the suits. It did my heart good to see her smiling again. She told me she is a lot more on the alert now. She realizes how careless she has been in the past.
She is taking self defense classes. She will be fine in time.
After I dropped her off in Grand Rapids, I drove 70 miles north to my ex SIL's birthday party.
Today I had to help set up and serve dinner at our VFW and then do Karaoke for 3 hrs. Tomorrow is my "I ain't doing a dam thing day" lol!!
Zona my sweet Niece. Do you want to go shopping too lol!
I noticed today that I am all black and blue from all the "zapping" done to me!
Shirley, I loved the "Lets go Fly a Kite" song.
Now I have to go back and watch the video so some of the comments will make sense lol!
March 22, 2009 12:35 AM
Hi, Mary! :)
OK, off to attend a fund-raiser for our friend Bobbi's lesbian softball team at "The Mix", a bar in the Castro, followed by the Lone Star.
In other words, a typical Sunday in the lives of Mr and Mrs Whabbear!
Have a great rest of the day, Owls!

Whabby - have fun at the Lonestar - how shocking that you are going - LOL...
Mary - glad to hear that your niece is doing better..... I'm watching "your" game now..
you know there is NOTHING on tv, if I am watching Basketball...
K'girl - congrats on 69!!
Congrats on first Zona! Glad you liked the cardinal video too! :)
Sacbarb: Sorry I didn't comment on the Avenue Q video yesterday. It was really funny. My dad got a kick out of it too.
Sandie: Your story was awesome about how you got your poodles. My first pet was a poodle. She was not a standy but I wouldn't say she was a miniature in any way. I loved that dog. Her name was GiGi. My dad never liked her and she would go and poop on his favorite chair. It was really funny.
Sandi & Carol: I got the necklace today because I left town before the mail came yesterday! Can I keep it over the next weekend and send it to the next person on next Monday? That way I can take it to Bowling Green. I might even try to take it to the Corvette Museum! Then I will send to the next person on Monday. Also, will one of you email or MS me sometime this week with the address for the next person! :) This is so fun. My daughter thought it was pretty. Very shiny.
MEK,you made me laugh! Of course there is something on t.v. and you are watching it!lol! The game is getting my nerves all tied up. I hate close games! I am watching with one eye closed lol!
Bear get out there and relax, The world issues will wait on you ;-)
Bear, btw I was talking about FB, not your last post here lol!
Mary: Glad to hear your niece is getting a smile back on her face. What a traumatic thing to have happened. I am so glad that she is doing better.
Goldie: Glad to hear that you had fun drunk blogging! It is fun and now I am not the last one to have done it. woo hoo! I have to go back and read it though, being at my dad's, I didn't have too much computer time.
I made Amish Friendship Bread. Has anyone ever done that before? It was really good. I made 6 loaves and left three for my dad.
Carol: I love Cracker Barrel. They have the best Smoked Turkey Salad. It is so good. My Mom works there part time.
GOLDIE -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Hi Mek! I don't watch the basketball. But sad that Western didn't win, that is where my daughter goes and I was rooting for them. It looks like they were close against Gonzaga. Also, I hope Louisville wins! Go CARDS!
My sons go there.
Congrats on 100!
MEK,I am glad it is over. I was starting to eye my nails lol!
Which is harder, trying to put a big ball in a net or a little ball in a hole-in-the-ground lol! Hate to tell you but watching golf is like watching paint dry to me ...don't hate me lol!
Mary, thank you! Standard poodles are at least 15" high from the floor to their shoulder. They are tall and usually lean--they're not gluttonous dogs--they don't usually overeat like some dogs will (Ippuni). Luc is 27" (from floor to shoulder) and weighs 74 lbs and Remy is 26" and weighs 65 lbs. Luc is super muscular.
Bebbi, thanks, and you have myspace mail. EBJ is the next person on the list.
MEK, thank you for the 100 for Luc & Remy!
By the way, Mary, I want to be your niece, too! :) You are so sweet to your nieces and I'm sure they think you're the best!!
Hi hooters,
Congrast Kgirl getting 69 today! Woo!
And for MEK getting 100!
YAY I get the necklace next! I am sure Paula and Poe will want to check it out. Maybe I will be able to get MR. EBJ to wear it for a pic, too!
MEK we had to postpone "your" dinner, I had some ricotta cheese that needed to get used, so I made lasagna instead. We will still have salad and garlic bread!
Paula was sitting in her window before and her eyes were completely normal! Not dilated at all. I just took a pic of her sitting in the sun by the back door so will try to put it on MS later.
Whabby have fun at all the bars today! Be careful!
Mary glad Jaimie is doing so well. And please tell Raquel hi from us!
Sandie, do the boys get a special dinner for their birthdays??
Has anyone ever played Where's Waldo?
Well, check out my profile pic..and it is "Where's the traveling necklace"..hehe!
MS new video...in one sec...
EBJ - we just got done with "the dinner" - YUMMY.....
I sent Mr. MEK to the store just to get salad stuff and I totally forgot to make one!! oh well....
Well - the pre-hour of Tucson Extreme Home thingy - they are reuniting the family with all the volunteers to watch it together downtown....
bbl........
Thank you EBJ, Lani, Sandie, Mek, Whabbear and Kahonugrl for you advise. I appreciate it. ((HUGS))
Good evening feathered friends
It seems the crud that has hit so many of you has found me, too. My head feels like it weighs a thousand pounds. It prolly does cause I think there is a thousand pounds of snot in my nose. One nostril is running and the other plugged up. OY! My eyes hurt (and it isn't due this time to looking at myself in the mirror!) and I ache. Oh well. Life goes on
I wanted to wish LUC and REMY a Happy Birthday! They are very talented boys! Not only do they eat stones, etc...they write their own blog, too!! And they are quite the handsome boys, too!!
back under the blankies for me.
Mo: I am sorry to hear you got the crud! I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Shirley: I hope you are doing ok.
Well poo! I must have gotten overstimulated watching the game! I sat down in Mr Mary's chair and fell asleep!
I watched the last part of Ext. Home. Now watching The Amazing Race.
Sandi,thanks for the info.
My ex once bought a toy poodle. It was a disaster. We didn't know a thing about it.. I do remember its butt kept getting matted with dingleberries lol!
The idiot (my ex) traded it in for a St Bernard!
BTW,the more nieces the better :)
Hi Everyone!
Shirley,
I would def accept the pearls, your friend has made a very honorable offer, as she cares..
Bebbi,
So glad you got the necklace... I don't mind if you keep it till next Monday..
I am blogging during commercials..

Mo,
Sorry you are not feeling well, the crud sucks, but what sucks more is the snot..

Whabby...
Sunday at the Lonestar? What a shock..

Bebbi,
You are so funny.. That mask? I feel like I am watching. "Eyes wide shut"
There was part of the movie where they all walked around in masks..
