Night Sky

by Zona

When I was a kid..you could go out into the backyard at night and look up and see what seemed to be every star in the universe. We would lay out on a blanket and pick out the constellations..feeling so small under the vast expanse of the star filled sky. Gradually, the city became so populated..light pollution ruined that view. After Randy and I got married we would drive from here to his parent's house to visit. We travelled at night to escape the heat of the day..and we would always pull over once we got out of town..just to look at the stars. This video was shot by a photographer in time lapse. He set up cameras in Utah, Wisconsin, South Dakota and Colorado to capture these amazing views. Watching it makes me feel like I did when I was a kid..like I could just reach up and touch the stars. Believe me..there were many nights I tried. :)

Fabulous. I am lucky we can still see the stars like that where I live.
No street lights and small towns. There are times in the summer when the sky is so velvety and there are so many stars it is stunning.

Ah...starry nights.....my first love was Eddie...in 9th grade...I used to dream of he and I making love under the stars....but....our first time was in the backseat of my parents car....

They had a hard time keeping their eyes on the road that day....

Good Morning Lynn - Congrats on being first. Have you had your coffee yet? I am just about to start on my first cup of tea.

Good Morning Michael - You were a precocious young man weren't you? I was still playing with my baby dolls in 9th grade. I think maybe I missed out on something I don't know.

Zona I loved your blog. The night sky is one of my favourite things. My sister loved it too. We were always comparing what we saw in the sky at night.

Our stars are bright like they are in this video. We even get the Northern lights sometimes. It is the last thing I do before bed is to go out and look at the stars and think of Joan.

Every year there are a few days in July when we get to see a lot of shooting stars. We always lay back in the lounge chairs (or on a blanket if it is a real warm night) for about an hour or two around midnight and watch the "show". I love it. The meteorites don't start until midnight and the show get better the closer you get to dawn but we never stay out there that long. It's been a tradition for me for years.

Zona, I loved watching this. I grew up in Los Angeles and I never realized how many stars there were in the sky until my parents moved to Santa Maria the summer before my senior year in high school. There was a lot of farm land just outside the town and there were lots of places to park and just 'look at the stars.' Yeah, that's what we were doing! Really!

Zona That was spectacular! I used to lay out on the front lawn at night when I was a kid growing up in southern California, too. It was so fun to spot a shooting star. Looking at the vid today reminds me of how truly small we are in the universe. Sometimes I think humanity loses sight of that.

Tinka Sometimes, I've been able to see meteor showers while living here as long as there isn't a layer of fog getting in the way.

Dianne Have fun today. I hope it doesn't get too hot for you.

Hi Guys!

Thank you for the comments today..I'm so glad you found this video as amazing as I did. I've watched it a few times already..and I'm always left breathless. I'm even thinking of getting the full length vid. One interesting piece of info..the photographer said all of these shots were at night..even if it looks like day..it's not..very cool. I really liked the music too. If you didn't watch it in full screen..make sure you try that. :)

LYNN: Congrats on FIRST! I hope that Rabbit Rabbit will bring you only the best of luck! I sure wish that I lived where I could go out into the backyard and see stars like this! :)

MICHAEL: Too bad your folks didn't have a convertible..j/s..

TINKA: How cool that you can see the Northern Lights! I'll sometimes go out at night and search for a bright star and ask my mom to make it twinkle..sometimes it does..sometimes not..but I like to think she hears me.. :)

DI: You're going to have a great time at the beach! Try not to forget my seashell..but if you're having too much fun and forget..I will totally understand! :)

BARB: I remember doing that..just parking and looking at the stars..uh huh..looking for that Big Dipper..weren't you? Me too.. :D

J/LIN: It's so cool when you see a shooting star! Did you ever make a wish on one? I still do.. :)

BEAR!! Where are you..this is another one you would love! :)
