A Grateful Night Owl

by Sac Barb

I reached my Medicare birthday last October and even though I used a computer at work, I only had to do simple things on it - email, draft memos/letters (someone else spiffed them up for me), and check my calendar. I didn't even have to make entries in my calendar because no one trusted me to get it right, so I had a secretary to help me. I also had Tech Support to come running when I really screwed things up. So, I never thought in my retirement, that I would turn to the computer to occupy some of my time.

I've always been a "night owl" so I watch the late night shows, especially the Tonight Show. I was always intrigued with an Intern on the Tonight Show and when he went to Torino to report on the Olympics, I enjoyed his segments. He always ended his report with an invitation to visit his blog. I didn't even know what a blog was, so I checked it out and became a lurker for over a year.

Finally, one day in April 2007, I took the plunge and posted a comment and was very surprised when I was welcomed by some of the regular blog buddies. I found myself posting comments more often and becoming friendly with people I never met in person. Then in July, I had surgery and these same stranger friends showed such an outpouring of love and support, my heart filled with warmth. I received so many cards that the staff at the "home" were all talking about the patient in room 605 that got mail every day. ( I know this only because my neighbor worked there and told me). I even got gifts in the cards and a big box of "things to keep me busy," including chocolate. Thank you again, Lynn D.

I found that I had become addicted to that blog and while I was unable to post a comment or read the blog, I had to talk to someone who could update me on what was happening. Thanks, DonnaJean.

Then in September one of the Blog Buddies decided, in an enormous leap of trust and faith, to have a BBQ for the Bay Area Bloggers. Now, I am about two hours from the Bay Area, but I was invited anyway and I had misgivings about going at first. But, I was very curious about the people I had been "talking" to all these months, and I decided I had to go. It was a very good decision. The people I met were warm, friendly, and well, just wonderful people.

Fast forward to today and I find myself in a new blog situation which, in my opinion, has brought forward the cream of the crop from the other blog, although we are still missing some. I am so honored to be a part of the Night Owls and I salute each and every one of you for your honesty, wicked sense of humor, and compassion. Thank you Carol for creating this wonderful, safe place for us. And I have to thank that Intern for bringing us all together. I will forever be grateful that I decided to make that initial comment. I truly love all of you, without exception!

Good Morning, my friends...

(disclaimer - i have NOT read the rest of the comments from yesterday - LOL)

SacBarb - thank you for your blog this a.m. - it was like I was writing it myself..

After I became volunteerily unemployed - I found myself needing something to "fill the time" - I, also, watched TTS ALL the time and was intrigued by a certain "Intern" and also read his daily blog - the commenters seemed like such a tight group and I decided to "take the plunge" - well, it took 2 weeks and 3 days for anyone to acknowledge my existence, but I just kept commenting - thinking some day, someone will notice me....... (I didn't whine after one comment, like several do now a days - i really didn't want to draw attention to myself) - FINALLY, I got my first welcome aboard and the rest is history........ I, also, found myself traveling from Arizona to attend the Bay Area BBQ - I felt "safe" because I had "met" several in the chat room, even though I thought I might be crazy and had a million second thoughts after purchasing my plane ticket - I would NEVER change that experience for anything - and a bonus on my trip - I met Tina in UT at the airport during my layover!! We connected as if we had been friends forever.

During a recent visit from my brother and his family - he tried to have an intervention - told me "you need to get a life, that intern could careless about you", "you need to get a job, so you can do something constructive with your time" - I tried to explain to him that I have "friends" and he just didn't get it.....(now IBB understands)

Well, he was right about the "he couldn't careless about you", but he was so wrong about "my friends" - I have met some of THEE most wonderful FRIENDS thru the intern's blog and for that - I will be forever grateful!!

I hope you all have an excellent day!! :-)

Oh, MEK, what a wonderful post!

MEK in AZ said...

SacBarb - I love you too!! and I am SO thankful that I met you FOR REAL - this is funny - I was SO excited to send you a "get well" card when you had your surgery - I had NO idea that you would get "flooded" with them, but was elated when I found out that you had....... :-)

You are a VERY special lady!! :-)

MEK in AZ said...

Iteach - thank you - I just wanted to add a little to today's blog - sure don't want to take away from it... :-)

What a wonderful way to start a Sunday morning. A message of peace, love and gratitude. I got the same lovely calm feeling I get from church. Thank you Barb for bringing us that message. I love you too. You have always been so supportive. I was similar to you in the fact that I read for a few weeks last May and then jumped in and made a comment. I think I was trembling when I did it. No-one noticed me either but that didn't matter. I kept posting a couple of times a day. Then one day someone, I think it was Maureen, who said I sounded sad that day. I couldn't believe she had picked up on the fact that I was so sad because I was coming up to the lst anniversary of losing my sister. I took a deep breath and told my story. Well I couldn't believe the beautiful letters of support I got. I was flying high after that. I printed every letter and put it in my 'grieving file'. I used to talk to my sister each morning for an hour. Being on the blog filled that void. From that day on I felt I belonged with this group and hope to be at the next BBQ party. Thanks Barb for the lovely start to my day.

It really is kind of hard to explain to people what the attraction is to each other, isn't it? And ever harder to try and explain actually meeting! All I really need to do now is direct people to my myspace page to see all the wonderful comments and expressions of support (both with the loss of my sweet Checkers and last year when my father-in-law passed).

I wasn't around yesterday - I am SOOO sick (fever of 104 last night and it hasn't broken yet) - I think it might be a reaction to the teensy bit of stress I've been under lately. Anyways, I see we have some more people here since I last posted - so WELCOME to all! This reminds me of the old days on the Rossblog when we were free to comment back and forth to each other without fear of trolls and reprimands. I really love it here too Barb!

Just_Lin said...

LynnD LOL @ your owl. That's what I had to do to see straight when my thyroid meds were off.

Just_Lin said...

canadiangirl Oooh, 104 temp in an adult is nothing to laugh about. How are you today? Have you gone to the doctor?

MEK in AZ said...

CG - I am sorry to hear that you are sick as well....... hugs to you..

Mo - thanks for breakfast - and the kind words!!

As I think about it - I am VERY close to my year anniversary of being a "commenter" - wow, time flies!!!

Happy S*N*O*W*Y Sunday Owlies!

Thanking you, SacBarb, for today's TOTD. Every one of us have similar stories, I'm sure. That's why, no matter what, gotta love Ross for making it happen--even if it was an accident on his part.

Mo, you outdid yourself on breakfast this morning! When I awoke & saw my weather, I had my yummy oatmeal and blueberries early, but I'm hiding some tiramisu for later. Yumm-o!

(((canadiangirl))) ~ please, please take care of yourself today.

LynnD: OK, I want Mrs. Hughes to report to the nest, STAT! I literally cried laughing! And, btw....how's your weather? I have 3 absolutely beautiful inches of snow so far and it shows no sign of stopping. We're on snow advisory 'til 4pm tomorrow.

bbl........step AWAY from my tiramisu!!

As someone who has been around from the very beginning of the Ross Blog, I am so happy that the blog has attracted so many wonderful people. Of course, we have had some loons along the way, but this group of nightowls has added humor and warmth and that is what it has always been about.

It has not always been easy to be "an oldie" in the blogging world as I have often been misunderstood, but I want to thank you for inviting me into YOUR world as you were first invited into mine.

I might not always write... I do not always write on Ross' blog... but I am here in spirit and check in often to share a giggle or make sure everyone is still having fun.

Have a great weekend Owls!

Hello all you wonderful Hooters! I am swooping in before I leave for Church and then to go try to find something to wear to that darn wedding. I may just wish the had kept the status quo. I really hate shopping!

Iteach: Congrats on #1. BTW, is your hubby worn out yet?

Iteach, Birdee, LynnD, Nowmercy, IBB, MEK, Mo, JL, Tinka, Bon'O and Glynis: Thank you all for the kind words. I am honored to be a part of this illustrious group.

OK, I am off now (well you all knew that) and I will check back in after shopping.

Peace & Love, Barb

P.S. JL: I like the baby owl.

Good morning!

Wonderful post, Barb!!

I felt the same way about the Bay Area bbq, I was so curious, but nervous. And it was a long drive, too.

But Robbie (SSL)and I went, and I was so glad we did! Everyone was soooooo nice, and we all felt really comfortable.

Some of you may have figured out that I go to bed really early, and that night, when I wasn't home by midnight, my huz was really worried, and started calling.

He was astounded when I rolled in at almost 3:00am (so was I!!) but I wouldn't have missed the bbq for the world.

The next day, I was so sore from laughing so much. I still laugh when I think of Whab making the root bear floats!

SSL and I were planning to host the next one at my house, and it could be the Bay Area/Night Owl bbq.

No date yet but could start planning it, maybe some of you could take the leap of faith that we did last year, and come on out!

SacBarb, yes I'm moved into new place, still unpacking. Can't believe we had so much stuff. I had Goodwill come Friday and take away lots and lots, so my dining room is no longer looking like a storage facility!

It's a gloomy, rainy day here, I just got home from shopping at Trader Joes, and the laundry is going. So I will check in later!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

SacBarb: Thank you for the beautiful reminder of how blessed we all are to have found such a fun, caring community of friends! Love and hugs to you!

MEK: I also felt unnoticed when I first joined the RossBlog, but like you, I kept posting, and I'm so glad I did. :)

Tinka: Many thank you's to Maureen for making you feel welcomed on the RossBlog, because I would have missed out on a wonderful friendship if you had decided not to stay.

Canadiangirl: Hope you start feeling better soon. Hugs!

Waving Hi to all the friends I'm thankful I met on the RossBlog! When I'm in need of laughter or hugs, I know I can always find them here. :)

Good Morning Everyone - This is my second post but I was so taken by Barb's intro that I forgot to say good morning. I am sorry about that.

Maureen - I will have my usual English muffin and tea please. I would love to have grapefruit but it interacts with some of my meds. Does anyone know why that is?

Dreama - I just read last night's posts and I was so happy to see you finally made it into the forest of owls. I am not very good at directions so you must have had help or did you finally just figure it out? It's so easy once you get the hang of it. I laughed when I read you wanted to wake me up and tell me you were here.
Please stay. This is a happy place to be.

cpgem8 - Thanks for reminding us to always be sensitive to each other's feelings. We can disagree about issues but we can be nice about it. You have set up a really nice nest for us owls. Speaking of owls I think I need an owl picture. Tia isn't comfortable surrounded by owls. Amicus, my friend, my Prof, can you find me an owl picture. I love you.

Yes Tina I have actual clothing in my washing machine! LOL

Good Morning back at you Ibebold!

Iteach I think I will skip the diaper session this morning. Had to change my own after watching Mrs. Hughes.

MEK: You were one of the first people to make me feel welcome on the Ross blog. Your post makes me really think about what we would miss out on if we did not take a chance once in awhile.

Mo: Thank you for breakfast! I don't know about a smart cookie, I seen to have a few choc. chips missing! LOL

Just lin: I like your baby bird pic and I thought of you when I posted my new one!

Tinka: I am so glad you started to post at the Ross Blog and that you flew here with the rest of us!

Cgirl: I am worried about your temp. Take care of yourself today. If it does not drop soon please see your Doctor.

Bono: I thought the same thing when I watched Mrs. Hughes! We need her in the nest. No snow here but there was a thick coating of ice on the roads this morning. We now have sunshine and everything seems to be melting.

Glynis: I am so glad you come and check in with us! I always enjoy your posts here and when I was on the Ross blog.

Tinkatia said...

night.owls.sb - I heard from Zona. She has been sick. I will let her tell you about it. She is reading the comments now and I am sure she will post soon.
I am so impressed that you changed your own layout. I can just see myself now as I really am. I am that little dependent 6 year old in my class who always wants the teacher to do the task for her. Boy I am sure an elderly 6 year old but I don't think I will ever be brave enough to try it myself. Good for you. Amicus must be proud of her student.

Barb: Fantastic story of your journey into cyberspace social networking! I am left with only one question. You said

"Then in September one of the Blog Buddies decided, in an enormous leap of trust and faith, to have a BBQ for the Bay Area Bloggers."

Who is that mystery Blogger? LOL!

whabbear said...

OMG! NowMercy just sent me this image and suggested I use it in the nest. How appropriate is THIS? It's a photo of the Owl Nebula, one of the most beautiful planetary nebulas in the Northern Hemisphere sky.

Thanks so much, NowMercy!!

Lynn D said...

Hi Dreama: I am glad you got off of the first page too!

Whabbear: I know! I know! Oh and I guess I will have to find an owl mascot for this years bbq! LOL

Hi EBJ: Will you come clean out my house? I still have a bunch of stuff that you could give to the goodwill!

Tina: I will bring down the dark clothing for you but I am throwing a bunch of my stuff in the load!

If I missed anyone I will catch you on the return! (((Hugs)))

Birdee - Every time I look at your 'owl' picture I smile.

Tinkatia were you in bed last night with The Waltons again?
BonOregan is it snowing there again. I love snow, but we rarely see it in our tropical climate. Anytime you gals want me to then I'll go outside and blow ya some warm air up as far north as I can. I heard i made it up north for 10 minutes of sunshine last time I tried.
Zonababy, oh I told her not to go play in the rain. Zonababy get better!
CanadianGirl I left you an e-mail because I couldn't get past the front page here. I would give you a human hug in person if I could.
I have got to get to the grocery store and errands run and go check on my parents. DREAMA - Welcome to the nest! Have a seat on one of the comfy couches and roost with us a while.

CPGEM8 - Tripe???? I guess I will make you a big bowl of it (does it get served in a bowl?), after I go to recipe finder and figure out how to make it! Maybe you should arrange a ticket to Florence for me so I can get the recipe from a professional (or get it off a cart in the mercado for you!)

LYNN D - I will gladly go to the store and look for some chips for you! But I kinda like you with the missing ones ;)

TINA - Can you wash some water, oopsies, I mean clothes for me, too?

WHABBY - Your avatar is a perfect fit for you.

Tina: Laundry? me too...I don't mind getting it into the washer and then into the dryer..I really hate hanging and folding.

Got back from a precarious hike in high wind that came up fast and snow drifted the trail. My dog loved, my friend and I did not.. cold and awkward but still fun to have had fresh air.

Peace yall

Bon'O said...

Dreama~~Welcome, but don't you DARE blow any hot air my direction~~I'm loving this snow so much!! But, boy, they sure missed the forecast this time. Not a mention last night (after teasing us last weekend). So far, I have 5", it hasn't stopped once since I got up at 6:45, and right now it's coming down in gigantic cotton-candy clumps.

Good day to all of you who've popped in since I was in earlier.

And on today's TOTD, it was our dear whab-owl who first welcomed me to Rossland last fall. Thank you my sweet...I still remember that he said "Nice to meet you, Bon'Oregon"....I then immediately tried to explain 'CrazyClasp' jewelry magnets to Tinka so she wouldn't have to remarry just to have someone help her put on her pearls! From such tiny acorns of welcome do mighty oaks of friendship grow!

Maureen said...

DREAMA,
You can call me moweenie, or maureen. Hell, Tina calls me whore slut (although I prefer trollop or strumpet!!), so whatever you choose can't be worse then that!!!
;)

ZONABABY - Feel better soon.

AMICUS - how are you feeling? Are you getting more accustomed to your dietary changes?

CPGEM8 - No, I didn't make it. But thanks for thinking I have that talant! I thought of drawing one, but I thought this one was cheery. I got it from glitter-graphics.

I can't believe I am still playing!

Maureen said...

"From such tiny acorns of welcome do mighty oaks of friendship grow!"

BON'O - that was great!

I honestly don't recall who welcomed me first on the R-Blog, but through all the good and bad, I am glad they did! I kinda think it was MEK, but I am not sure.

Oy, why am I still here??!!

Tinkatia said...

Bon Oregon - I am turning off my computer laughing. I remember you telling me about the special clasps. I didn't realize it was you. From little clasps come big friendship. Thank you. You saved me from God only knows what kind of marriage. Love you. I am off for lunch and a nap.

Bon Oregon - I am turning off my computer laughing. I remember you telling me about the special clasps. I didn't realize it was you. From little clasps come big friendship. Thank you. You saved me from God only knows what kind of marriage. Love you. I am off for lunch and a nap.

Hi Everybody!! I am sorry to have been MIA--no Tina not in Miami. I made the mistake of going to lunch on Friday at Jack In the Crack, and I paid dearly for it. By Friday night I resembled Mounte Vesuvio in it's active days. On Saturday, I would say more like Mounte Etna. Not a pleasant couple days to be sure. I am still a little wobbly, but much better.

I haven't read all the comments yet, but am intrigued on how my secret Russian Princess past was discovered.

SACBARB: Your blog today was wonderful. I have made so many friends because I was given a gentle push(ok, maybe not so gentle)by Tinka to post on Rossblog. The 'welcomes' began immediately..and I felt right at home. I am grateful that all those great people are here now too.

BIRDEE: Thank you for your chickowl pic--my first BIG smile in a couple days.

CPGEM8: Happy Blue. Thanks, I knew I could count on you.

Please indulge the picture, he's so easy on the eyes. I am off to read all that I missed, can't wait to see!!

Hey HOOTERS!!!!!!!

Just dropping by to see what is going on!! Hubby will want an early dinner, so I'll have to start it pretty soon.

Well, I just love the post's you all are doing today. So sweet and kind!! Have you all been drinking today??!!! LOL JK....
Seriously now, you all are the best. I'm glad I'm out of my Funk and back to having FUN with All of you. Love this whore/slut thing going. My kind of humor!

I wish I could take the credit for my "Owl" pic, But that goes out to CPGEM...I let her pick it for me, cuz I have no idea how to do the picture things!!
Did I make a big mistake in "trusting" her?? bwahahahahaha!!
Although it did give me a really good laugh this morning when I saw it. I was like WTH!!!!! I couldn't see it that well and it looks like a guy in some type of jumpsuit, with a upside Kite on his Face!! So, I tried to enlarge it (don't even go there you peeps) and then I said to myself, That's a Freakin Chicken!!! Look at those FEET!!!
I hadn't even had my first cup of coffee before I was laughing out loud!! So, cpgem....I LOVE YOUR HUMOR!!! Chicken in the Owls' Nest!! Is that like the Fox in the Hen House?!!! LOL

Dreama!!!! HI, Happy to see you.♥

Hello??? It's me, Sandie. I hope you all remember me (!). I've been lurking now and then but decided after reading SacBarb's lovely post that I had to jump in today.

I first want to say that I am sorry to everyone for suddenly deleting you from my myspace friends. When all the nasty stuff started happening on the Ross blog and some people were saying they felt betrayed, etc., I got scared and in a fit of my own drama I just deleted everyone! I'm sorry I left with no explanation. I just thought "do I really KNOW these people?" I have since seen that I really did know all of you--you are kind and sweet and caring.

I also left the Ross blog because I felt I was spending too much time on the computer. You all are addictive!! LOL So, when Tinka and Zona invited me here, I said thank you and still resisted. But, I just miss you all too much!!! The times when I have popped in here to read some of the comments, I've just so enjoyed you all.

I see lots of owl pictures--I hope my poodles can stand in as owls. I write a blog about my poodles, (thank you Moweenie for always reading and commenting!) and so I just left that as my identity for now. (Do you ever feel like you have so many identities, logins, passwords, etc. that you forget who the heck you're supposed to be when??)

Anyway, I've missed you all and I'm so happy you've found a safe place to land.

Whabby: Perfect pic that NowMercy sent you!

Sandie: Welcome to the nest! We all go crazy at times and react and regret some decisions later! I know I have. But I have to say I really like the stranger friends that I have met through blogging!

Ibb is in the house!

Good afternoon everyone!
SacBarb~What a sweet post! The Ross blog was my first ever posting.I seemed like a warm & friendly community, so I jumped right in.The ones that stood out the most to me were Whabbear,MEK,Seaside,SacBarb,Cpgem8 and Bradly from Vegas. I almost dropped out a few times because of the trolls, but Whabbear somehow always talked me out of it :+). I did meet Bradly on one of my Vegas trips. He was a doll. My family freaked when I told them I had met him. They were sure he might be an ax murderer LOL!! For Peets sake I told them! He was in the military and working as a security guard in the Casino where I met him.I hope to meet the rest of you some day.

Birdee, your chicken/rooster thingy looks like he just stepped off of Whabbys owl nebular! Cracked me right up!

Sorry for the long post.....not really LOL!!!

Okay owls I need your power of positive universal persuasion

My firewood guy has not arrived and I am desperately low on fuel and it is gonna get cooold here in sw montana Monday.

Send some energy/prayers out to Richard the wood guy to get here soon or at least answer his cell phone.

I got low on wood because I shared my last delivery with neighbors and because my use has been higher this year (time for a new, uh, woodburning insert)

Fly over and help Richard remember and make good on his promise to me....

Thank YOU!

Welcome to Dreama, Shirley and K-Girl!

MAUREEN: I'm better today, thank you, and ten pounds lighter! ;)

AMICUS: Where did Professor Owl go? Did he lose his tenure? ;)

DIANNE: Congrats on your solo march to 500! Only way I can win too! Hope you are getting well.

LYNN D: Missed you too! LOL at vaudeville. When I first started posting on the Rblog, Dianne and Tina had me and my 'cousins' Zola and Lola performing at the Copacabana waiting for Whabbear and his ruffled shirt to show!

TINA: Awww...you said such nice things about me...SWAK! Love you bunches.

SANDIE: Oh happy day..you are here!! Hugs to Luc and Remy and Ipuni too!! ;)

IBB: Congrats on your solo 300 effort and thank you for the well wishes. Guess what Mr. Z got me on Saturday? 'CINDERELLA'!!

NOWMERCY & JUST_LIN: AHA!! You started the stories! LOL!

SACBARB:...and you helped!!

ITEACH: I asked Mr. Z to check out the blog for me yesterday--I was missing you all something awful. He came back with a stunned look on his face and asked, "Does Mr. ITEACH read the blog??" I almost fell outta bed. ;)

JODI: Thank you for the call. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get to the phone. {{HUGS}}

It sounds like we have some hungry owls here!
I was going to make turkey burgers and veggie burgers. Oven baked french fries, caramelized onions, a variety of cheeses and buns.
BUTTTTTT, I hear pizza!
So, I will put the pizzas in the oven and bring them out when they are done!

CPGEM8 - Sausage AND tripe on yours! (And I did shower, just didn't flat iron my hair! So the dirt must be jersey dirt you're seeing!

SANDIE - Hello!! Woof woof to Luc, Remy and Ippuni! I love their blog, so I it is not much of a sacrifice to read there! And thanks for visiting mine. I put some new pics up.

BIRDEEEEE - you blame cpgem8 and she blames you. Hmmmm, something is a little fishy in birdland!

NOWMERCY - back away from the woody, I mean woodman!

Where is SHIRLEY? And I hope things are ok with DONNA JEAN and MISS LAURIE ELIZABETH.

Mary/MI said...

Zona, what a terrible way to lose weight! Glad you are on the mend.

Sadly I didn't win the march! Just as well, Mriteach was a little worn from the other winners! I told him I would do all the work but he said that was Mrs iteaches job LOL!!

Carol~ I haven't heard from Bradly. He did tell me in Vegas that he had to leave the blog for a while because he felt he was getting too emotionally involved with Ross.I could tell he was a very sensitive fellow.

iteach said...

Okay, Mary, I will add you to Mr. Iteach's list. He likes this list better then the cleaning list I give him .

Mary/MI said...

Son has put on his boots, dusted off the snow from his jeep and on the way to get our pizza! No tripe allowed!

Hmmmmm, what does that mean to be to emotionally involved with Ross.

Did he have a crush on Ross or was it draining for him to read all comments everyday?

Hello My Lovely Owlettes, and I do believe one Owl!! (or maybe not!!!)

SacBarb~~ it was my pleasure to be able to connect you with all the Blog Buddies during your time at the "home"! We, in turn, have become close friends, chatting on the phone, exchanging emails etc. We will meet someday soon, I promise! Next time I am in Sacramento.

Your blog today was so reminiscent of my intoduction to the RB. I too watched the "Intern" on TTS, enjoyed him immensely, and from there went to his blog. I lurked for a couple of weeks before taking the big plunge. I believe it was Whabbear or you who first welcomed me. Maybe because we were all from the same "neck of the woods" or whatever. Anyway, it was so exciting! I felt such a thrill to see my name, and to have someone respond to MY comments. I know, school girlish, but after being home for about a year after retiring, (forced) and not really having alot of adult contact, it was fun and empowering to connect with you all!

I also want to thank RM for bringing us all together. We are now communicating from several places, RB, Night Owls, MySpace, and oh my whatever else! I have made many wonderful friends, learned so much from everyone, exchanged ideas, received comfort and support, argued a few times, and basically felt "connected" again with the world outside my humble abode!

Thank you dear Barb, for putting it all down for us to remember our "first time" (get your minds out of the gutter, Owlettes)LOL Although that would be a fun topic to discuss, do ya'll remember???

Zona~~ Oh my goodness, were you hitting the beans from the other day, besides Jack in the Crack??? So sorry you have been sick!

Nowmercy~~ I am sending a cyber message telepathically to Richard the Woodman to get his butt over to your place pronto with some nice logs!

Oh, is he as cute as SacBarb's cable guy, or Just_Lin's fireman??? If so he can come here to my place too! I don't have a wood stove, but I could use a little "warmth" too!

Miss Laurie Elizabeth is doing so much better! I will keep everyone updated about our Cardio appt on Tues. I can never thank you all enough for the love, support and prayers you have sent to Laurie and myself! XOXOXO

Sorry for such a long post. I do tend to rattle on.

OK, back to your regular programming!!!

Peace, DonnaJean

Thank you, Just_Lin, Lynn D, bon'oregon, nowmercy, zonababy,cpgem8 and Maureen! How nice of you to welcome me.

I sure hope those of you who are feeling ill today get better real soon! Zona, I'm so glad you've come out of the bathroom.

Ummm, Maureen, I had pizza last night . . . but I won't ask you to make those yummy sounding turkey and veggie burgers just for me. Maybe tomorrow?

Back to making some thank you cards while I watch Lifetime movies . . . oops, now my dryer is buzzing. Jeez, it never ends, does it?

Which reminds me, my 11-year-old daughter (who suddenly in the last three months thinks she is 16) told me last night that just because I stay in the house most of the time doesn't mean she should (this after I just took her and a friend to the movies)! WHAT? I told her that I must have been mistaken--I thought she was glad that I was inside CLEANING, WASHING HER ClOTHES and COOKING HER DINNER. Oh please, someone tell me when will her head stop spinning around??

Luc and Remy said...

Nowmercy, I forgot to say I'm praying for logs!! And heat! And men with big logs! I bet others are praying for that, too . . .

DonnaJean! How nice to see you. I didn't know Laurie Elizabeth was having some problems--I hope your doctor visit brings good news.

Mary/MI said...

luc@remy~ I truely don't remember you ..sorry. Can you refresh my aging memory!
I have two nieces who are in college(sisters). Their heads are still spinning LOL!! I don't remember being that emotional in those years.
Ok maybe I was a little emotional! I remember singing "it's my party and I'll cry if I want too" and sobbing, who knows why!!lol

Hi Everyone!!!

Barb this is a beautiful blog.Thank you.(((♥MrsR♥))))
I'm not sure where I would be right now had it not been for Carol and Barb.
You both stopped me in my tracks on my way out of blogland.
Barb you took time for me when your life was busy and I will not forget that kindness.
Carol you gave me the security I was needing to stick around.
Thank u both for reaching out to me and helping me safely land here.

I was attracted to the other blog because I enjoyed the hosts witty humour.I didn't read comments for the longest time... but when I did, I found that same humour in the posters.
I am so happy to see, the nest is full of those funny caring owls.
There are a few that are missing, and I miss reading their posts.(if you're reading, please drop a morsel now n then)
Love n Hugs,

Mo, I remember the first time I started blogging, not sure what I said at the time, but it was something Funny! Your reply to me was "Welcome to the Family"! Boy, did that make me feel good. You've felt like to me ever since! The sister that always makes me laugh♥ And I have added more to the Family, Thanks to all of you.♥ Hooters!

Welcome, Sandie, and big bear hugs back, ibebold!

Tinkatia: I feel worse than Rip. I just composed a long comment, but forget to log in, and it disappeared! Silly me!

But the gist was my take on actually meeting bloggers. There are so many I WANT to meet (yes, Mary/MI, including you... LOL!).

Meanwhile, my dinner with CG, and then the BABB, were awesome! I second East Bay J in really encouraging out-of-towners to consider a trip to the Bay Area to attend the next BABB. We had some behind-the-scene complications with the first one that discouraged some from coming, and that was unfortunate. Hopefully, the next time around will be smoother.

OK, off to shower. The Lone Star is waiting! LOL!

Have a great night, everybody!

I remember sharing a story with LYNN and WHABBY. We were characters in the Adventures of Haverick! And LYNN D was trying to make us believe she was a demure schoolmarm! YEAH RIGHT! She ended up dancing in the saloon!

We had so much fun there sometimes!

Hi Sandie, welcome! I tried to post under a different name at first, then changed to the one I used on the other blog.

Good to hear from you Zona! Hope you're feeling better.

Nowmercy, I'm in Brentwood which is in E. Contra Costa county. Do you know where Antioch or Oakley are? We're in between those cities.

Helloo all!

I woke up from my nap feeling cranky and out of sorts and then I read your comments and laugh myself silly!

Nowmercy: Nothing like that seasoned wood!

Lynn D said...

Zona: you let Mr. Z read the blog??? Oh boy now you've done it! He has to be the back up for Mr. Iteach or we may have do away with him!

Tinkatia said...

Well I read all the posts I missed while I slept for a hundred years with Bear - no that doesn't sound right. I mean Bear was Rip Van Winkle too and he lost his long post. Did that explanation help? I don't know, my mind isn't that clear today.

All our trees are covered with snow. It looks so beautiful.

Zona - So glad you are feeling better. One more day and I was putting out an Amber alert on you. How did it happen that while you were sick your hubby turned into Hugh Grant? He must be your husband or you wouldn't have him as your avatar would you? I know Tina has George but you know what they say about Tina? Isn't she the one with many husbands or am I starting a rumour?
Just dry toast and maybe gingerale for you today my little one. That isn't the first time Jack in the Box has had a problem.

Sandie - I am happy you are posting. It's nice to know Remy is better. Be prepared for a few strange years while your kids are teenagers. Don't worry, by the time they are 20 they are back to being your best friends.

Donna Jean - I will pray for continued improvement in Little Laurie's health. She seems like such a sweet young lady. I wonder who she gets that from.

Nowmercy - I appreciate your offer of help for the 6 year old that lurks inside me.
As I was reading I kept a prayer going that you would get wood. By the time I finished reading I think you had. Prayers work fast on this blog.

Joan E - I am thrilled that you took my advice. You must look after number one and you know who that is.

ibebold - I am pleased that I make you smile. Smiling keeps the wrinkles away.

Well our snow has stopped. I wonder if that is it for our winter? Snow sure beats the grey skies.

Well Maureen I am ready for that pizza. Enjoy everyone.
Love, Tinka

Zonababy sounds like you needed some of my Zofran. I hope you feel better soon.
Tinkatia that is neat that you woke up to snow. We had a rare snow event in 2005 with snow on our beaches and covering our palm trees.
Maureen I promise to only call you Moweenie.:)LOL
BonOregan I won't blow sun and warmth unless you ask.I wish I was there to play in the snow. Whee!
Now who has the Tiramisu? I love that dessert. Pass me some pretty please.

Lynn D said...

Bono and Tinka what did you do??? It is now just this minute starting to snow at my house! Did you guys pray to the snow gods what I ask you???? I can't drive in this! Help me!

Bon'O said...

Waking from my own litle Sunday snooze, just in time for dinner I see. Also, see the theme is still going from where I left you...

M/N-sistah: so happy your delivery arrived. You could keep warm just from all these HOT comments!

And I couldn't have read this correctly, could I? Our dear Tinka actually said "Bear was Rip Van Winkle too and he lost his long post"! Dang, Tinka! Wood, yes. Logs, maybe. But, poor Bear! How can you suggest such a thing? ;-)~

Seriously, Tinka ~~ hope you enjoy your beautiful snow as much as I have enjoyed ours today. Since none was forecast last night & I have 5", I don't know what to expect tonight. Weather Channel says low of 33 expected. Bwaahaa, it's 30 at 5:30 pm, so........???

So glad you're no longer hiding, Zona. Pleased others from the owl infirmary are getting better, too.

Will try to return later tonight for the round of g'night hugs. Luv to all!!

Lynn D - I am sorry if I went too far praying for the snow gods to bring us snow. It is stopped here. If I still have my powers I will stop it there so you can drive. That was the best part of retirement for me. I didn't have to worry when I went to bed on a January night that I would have to drive in the snow or on black ice the next morning. I feel your worry.

Dreamatexas - Yes the snow was fun for a change but of course I don't have to drive in it. Didn't you take a picture of you in your 2005 snow and post it on your myspace?

Maureen - I am ready for that chocolate cake now. I don't have to weigh in again until the end of February. Lots of time to work it off.

Tinkatia said...

Bon Oregon - I admitted my head wasn't very clear. I guess in doubt, erase and start again. I knew what I was trying to say but it wasn't coming out right.
We had fun in the snow today but Lynn wants us to get rid of it so she can drive tomorrow. How much power do you have left regarding the weather? I am afraid I am drained.

Lynn D said...

Tinka: Don't Worry I have resigned myself to not going anywhere tomorrow. If I look on the bright side I can cancel my Dentist appt. for Tuesday as I was not looking forward to it anyway. It is a discussion about oral surgery on my last remaining wisdom tooth. I can put that off a little longer! It won't break my heart.

Bono: I know you are just sitting in your house singing "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow! I can hear you!

ZONA - Glad you checked in today!!! I've missed you - but too bad you're not feeling well. I'm sure Mr. Zona is taking good care of my friend. Did he remember to cover your backside with a blanket like I do?

SACBARB - Great blog today!!! Well said......I too kind of just jumped in. That is what you have to do. I remember Donna Jean with her #2 pencil, and Seasidelady. It wasn't long and I really got to know everyone!!! I'm so glad that we have found such a great place to play. THANKS AGAIN, CAROL!!!

BIRDEE - Luvin' your chicken!!! Carol has a great sense of humor!! I don't want to be a chicken, I don't want to be a duck......so I shake my butt!!!! CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP!!! (My attempt at the chicken dance!!!)

NOWMERCY - So glad Dick is coming......uh.....delivering the wood!!!! Even if it is a half load!! LOL!! We also burn wood all winter. Thankfully Mr. Jodi has plenty!!!

MO - Not much of a chocolate gal, but I do like a little hot chocolate with my peppermint schnapps!!!! So thank you!!

TINA - How is work?

DEE DEE - Waving Hi!!! Just cuz!!!

ITEACH - Sounds like Mr. Iteach will have a backup in Mr. Zona!!! And congrats on FIRST!!! I'll see you in the morning over Cheerios!!

TINKA - Glad you finally got some snow. I've had about enough of winter here, I'll ship you some of ours!!! ((((HUGS)))) to Tango and Tia!!

WHABBY - Have fun at the Lonestar!!! Evidentally I need to take that drunk texting class you offer :D :D

BON*BON - Glad you are enjoying the snow!!!

Jodi said...

LYNN D - Waving hi from Wisconsin!!! By the time I got done with my lengthy post, you posted, too!!! :D :D

Sandie said...

Thanks, Birdee, Whabbear and East Bay J for your warm welcomes. Birdee, we have "talked" before on the rblog but I think I was confusing everyone posting under Luc & Remy.

Tinka, thanks for the words of advice about teen-agers. I've been through this age with my boys but whoa! She is starting early! I just have to remember not to take it personally!

I'm sort of jealous of all of you getting snow . . .

Jodi said...

SANDIE - I have a 13 year old daughter. Totally know what you mean!! Hang in there - and in the meantime, have a hot chocolate and schnapps!!! It helps!! :D :D Welcome to the nest!!

Lynn D said...

Jodi and Sandee: Hot Chocolate and Schnapps helps with everything! Tina even laundry!

Jodi said...

Testing......I think I found an owl!!!

Just_Lin said...

Jodi I ♥ your owl! It's perfect.

Is it just my imagination or are there alot of washing machines running today? Hmmmmmmm.....

Sandie said...

Thanks for the support, Jodi and Lynn D. I had the hot chocolate--forgot the Schnapps!

Jodi said...

JUST LIN - Totally fell off my chair.......LOL!! But I don't think anyone has one quite like TINA'S!!

Sandie said...

I think my owl is giving me the evil eye just like my daughter does . . .

Bon'O said...

Have to say Hi to Jodi..."Hi Jodi!!"

LynnD: I'll do my best to keep your streets swept clean. Funny you mentioned snow might keep you from the dentist. Guess what's on MY calendar for 3:15 tomorrow afternoon? A pre-colonoscopy consultation appointment! Like you, my heart wouldn't break if I were forced to cancel due to weather. BUT, those appointments are scheduled months in advance (mine was calendared last November for tomorrow).

Lots of power outages here and they even had to put chains on the firetrucks, according to the 6pm news. People in the south hills of town are not allowed to drive unless it's an emergency.

Sandie ~~ Mother daughter relationships in the late teen years are certainly "the best of times/the worst of times", but hang in there. They really do come out the other side beautiful humans once again. Good luck!

Bon'O said...

Sandie/Jodi~~Both owls are adorable!

Jodi said...

SANDIE - Boy......I get the same eye!! Oh, and her favorite line is, like, WHATEVER!!!

Just_Lin said...

Sandie I think your owl is darling! It's so fluffy looking.

It just gets funnier...Dick the woodguy arrived in the dark, with a full load, BUT my neighbor came down and asked if I would "share Dick's load" I almost peed knowing what the nest would do with this one. Jeez. So, I did a half load of fine heavy wood and so did my neighbor...Ben. Right after Dick, my daughter arrived, so now I gotta leave the wood world and go back to being a mild mannered mom...

Bon'O said...

Oy.....6:30 local news channel says 3" to 1' still to come tonight and tomorrow. Sorry, Lynn, I may not be much help :*(

DreamaTexas said...

TINKATIA yes I do have my snow pictures on Myspace.I had the one on the beach up for awhile. Right now Mardi Gras is going on. I have 2 Mardi Gras pictures on Myspace. Is the one with me and the stranger wearing his pink negligee suitable for G rated Myspace? He was wearing cowboy boots also but the picture got cut off.

Lynn D said...

Bono: Mine was scheduled 3 months ago two as the oral surgeon is so busy. Wow you guys really got hit we have about a 1/4 inch on the ground right now but it looks like the roads are once again freezing. We can watch from our front porch and there is a crossroad and all of the cars are skidding as they go around the corner.

Sandie: Use that stare to pin the daughter to the wall. You have to perfect it for it to work.

Jodi: Perfect owl for you!

Hi Just Lin!

Jodi said...

NOWMERCY - LOL!! @ Sharing Dick's load!!! Oh, I wish Whabby were here!! Could you please request me on myspace? My addy is myspace.com/jodi_affwi
Thank you!!! I would request you, but don't know your email addy or your last name.

Jodi said...

SANDIE - I just sent you a friend request!!

Bon'O said...

ok, who started this with Dick the Wood guy, anyway?? Oops, I guess it was me. I'm SO sorry....but now that I've dug this hole, I just read your latest about sharing the load with your neighbor, nowmercy. If you tell me Ben's last name is Dover, I'm gonna think you're making this up!!! Couldn't resist ;o)

Just_Lin said...

nowmercy Ooooh! You live in a kinky neighborhood.

dreamatexas Don't you just love Mardi Gras?

Lynn D said...
