The Room

A friend of mine added a room onto her house recently. With the help of mutual friends, she painted, decorated, and furnished the room. It was kind of hard to find at first…you didn’t really notice the addition. Every time someone new finds it, everyone inside shouts a welcome!

The room is huge. There is a small kitchen with a large table. The fridge is always stocked with beverages….ALL kinds of beverages. Everyone takes turns making or bringing food…well, except for one, who is cooking challenged! She’s only allowed to buy.

There are enough television sets for everyone to be able to watch whatever show they want. There is even enough room for someone to run around like crazy with a sling shot and not get in the way of the others watching the latest and greatest show. The room is so spacious, that if everyone wants to watch the same show, every person has a great view of the TV and a comfortable chair to relax on.

If you are sick, it’s the best place to be. There are plenty of couches to lay on and doze. There are many who suggest remedies and takes care of the sick ones. Rarely will you catch what they have.

The room is very loud. It’s also very quiet. Sometimes everyone is talking at once, and other times, we sit in silence just enjoying each other's company.
I think the best part about the room is that you can say anything….anything at all, and you will be accepted. Some have other rooms they visit…some don’t. That is okay. Some have differing opinions. That’s okay, too. Some only pop in occasionally or maybe just once. That is just fine. Whatever you need. The room glows with love, acceptance, and most of all, laughter.

One last thing….the room has HUGE windows along one side. Sometimes, if we look carefully, we can see someone peeking in. If that’s you, please come join us!

Where is that room you ask?

You’re standing in it!

Whabby~ sorry dear, but I drank the wine later in the evening with Mr. Iteach. Then after the wine I got a rubber band out and showed Mr. Iteach what Whabby taught me to do with "rubber band & a ruler".

Tina I am now going to go read your blog now.

Jodi said...

Good morning ITEACH!!! I see you!! Do you have your Cheerios this morning? If you have room, I left some muffins on the counter.

iteach said...

Oh, my heavens, that was awesome. I will share this blog entry with Mr. Iteach, so he can get the whole picture of why I love this room. But I still will not share this room with him. He can have the basement.

iteach said...

I cheated Jodi and ate the last of the toastal strudels that were in the freezer. Back to my cheerios tomorrow!

Terrific, Tina. So is this room. So are you and everyone in it. It's nothing less than home. Saying thanks just doesn't seem enough--but it's all I can offer. Thank you CPGEM8. {{HUGS}} to everyone. I hope you all have a great Saturday.

Tina...wow! A standing O for you today too! Thank you for so eloquently putting into words what this room has become. It is what one needs it to be and that is fantastic. Some days I peak in the window and yesterday I couldn't get off the couch! Thank you Carol for building this room and thank you Tina for putting into words what this room has come to mean to us all!

Good Morning, Tinka and MO -

Tinka - glad your computer is feeling better - thanks for your well wishes - I'm still not 100%, but it's getting better..

MO - thanks for breakfast!! we missed you yesterday!!

MEK in AZ said...

Iteach - i LOVE mac and cheese!!

Just_Lin said...

Tina Lovely blog. Kudos to you.

Maureen It's so thoughtful of you to bring so much food and drink. And there's always such a nice variety.

Lynn D Oh no! Do we have to bring cleets into it? There is so much trampling of each other during these dang marches there's going to be lots of blood spilled if we're wearing cleets. And then we'll be slipping in it and falling in it and.............well, I guess we could tape maxi pads all over our bodies to sop it up.

Lynn D said...

Well I have been dragging my wilted feathered hiney around the house this morning. Trying to dig out of the mess from being sick and I missed some of my friends stopping by.

Good Morning Tinka! I am so glad your computer is feeling better!

Hi Mo!! Waving at ya! So I see you were very busy while you were gone yesterday! Look at that spread!

Hi MEK we are all ready to sprint and march today!

Hi Whabby! It is amazing to see the other sides of our owl friends here in the nest. Some of these little wrens turn into flamboyant flamingos at night! LOL

Viggy thank you for the depends delivery in the middle of the night! What would I do without you!

Ok my rest is about over back to dirty pots and pans.

Maureen said...

May I have Mac & Cheese instead of the breakfast I brought???
Please!!

Lynn D said...

Just Lin: I have invested in Knee and elbow pads a helmet and a hockey stick. Just in case! This can be a rough crowd when they are on the march! LOL

Tinkatia said...

Maureen - I just dropped back for a minute but I see you brought food so I will stay a while. I will have eggs and real bacon. I don't when it was that I had bacon last but it was a long time ago. I remember the delicious aroma from it however. Sure glad I didn't miss that. You are so sweet Mo.

iteach said...

Good afternoon jl and barbara~

Sorry ladies my two boys gobbled the Mac & cheese down in a second.

So then our girls were left with PB&J.

Barb I am so sorry about your brother. Hugs to you!

We are packing everyone up and heading for a big mall which is one hour away.

Why travel so far on such a cold day?

Due to the fact that the kids need to run around and burn some energy. The mall has a big playland for the kids to run around.

Also, I have gift certificates that are burning a hole in my pocket.

Have a great afternoon and enjoy your naps.

Bear = You can have your tea any way you want as long as you have it with me.

Barbara in Wa = Let yourself cry girl. You still miss him even though 10 years have gone by. I don't know why Anniversaries are so hard but they are. My Shrink once told me the worst anniversaries for those grieving are 5, 10, 20 etc. It is interesting why that is so but I have found it to be true. Be good to yourself today. Love, Tinka

Lynn_D..glad you got the special delivery! Thought they might also come in handy for the grand marches, so there is no need to hide behind a tree or a bush..feel free to hand them out!!

Breakfast sounds great. Hey a vegetarian here...I'll contribute the scrambled tofu..yum..I know I'll be fighting with you all for the biggest bowl!!

Good morning, "Room"! And, yes, Tina, what a cozy room it is. So very well said. I'm sure by now Carol is tired of me hugging her ankles over our playhouse.

Hope you don't mind if I have the online radio on the table tuned to 'This American Life' (KCRW.COM) while I nibble on Mo's yummy breakfast treats. Then, before I get too cozy, it's time to tidy up so I can veg out over football. I have barbecued pulled pork going in the crockpot for lunch for us. Bring your choice of bread...or it goes well with mac & cheese.

Glad you're back in business, Tinka. Whab, bring us pictures from the tennis match, please. DonnaJean, still sending you hugs. The rest of you, have a SUPER SATURDAY. I'll try to pop in throughout the day whenever I'm driving by the neighborhood.

((Barb in WA)) ~~ before I go, a special hug for you. I DO know how you feel, as yesterday was the 9th anniversary of my final (for now?) farewell to my mother. What an incredibly special lady she was. Visualize the good memories and you'll feel better in no time.

Just_Lin said...

Well, gang...breakfast was wonderful, but now it's time to get out in the warm(?) 35 degree sunshine. Today's paper says it's time to unhook the hoses, cover outside faucets, seal any under-house vents or risk frozen pipes. To be 14 degrees by tomorrow night, start snowing and then 10 days of sub-freezing highs. Couldn't we just jump straight to May? I want to dig in the dirt and smell Spring blossoms.

p.s. Next to all the laughter,(((Group Hugs))) are just the BEST medicine...........:o))

Just_Lin said...

Okay, I'm on my way to the sporting goods store to get me some cleets, knee and elbow pads, helmet and hockey stick. I will be ready for the march tonight.

Could someone please ask Whabbear to stop hiding in here late at night and then jumping out and scaring me. Thanks.

Today would be a good day for extra chocolate. Thanks for the group hug, Maureen. :)

BARB IN WA - ((((HUGS)))) to you. My brother was killed in a car accident 19 1/2 years ago at the age of 20. I know what you're going through. I guess the times I've missed him the most have been on huge days in my life: wedding, birth of kids, etc. Just know that he is probably closer than you realize. All I have to do is look into my children's eyes to believe that my brother is close to me everyday.

BON'O - Monday is the 8th anniversary of when I lost my mom far too soon. She was only 56. I think this is one of the reasons I have really enjoyed the friendships and the escape that this place holds for me. ((((HUGS)))) from Wisconsin.

JUST LIN - I couldn't imagine losing my other half like that. Just keep spending time with us - and for whatever its worth, we'll help lift you up when needed.

Oh crap, now I'm crying. Am going to take a nap - got up way too early after staying up way too late.

Peace & Luv 2 U all

Good afternoon!

Well I just got done scrubbing the kitchen. I must say I think I am channeling a little of Joan Crawford today ala Mommy Dearest. "No Wire Hangerssssssss!" I am refering to how certain people in my household don't recognize clean. I found my pots and pans in unspeakable condition and I won't even discuss the crockpot! I tell you getting sick just does not pay.

Barb in WA, Just Lin, Bono and Maureen. I am sending you all a huge Hug!

Remeberance is a wonderful thing. I always try to remind myself that grief has no limit and that is fine. I still have moments of mourning the woman who was my mother and that was a very long time ago.

Rememberance is also a way to remind myself of the wonderful parts of me that were shaped by the people who have passed through my life. If it weren't for them I would not be half the person I am today! They live through me.

So peace to you and celebrate the love they added to your life.

DonnaJean I am thinking of you and Laurie today! Oh Please let her go home soon.

Okay I am going to lay down for awhile and rest. Everyone in my house is banned from the kitchen today!

canadiangirl said...

Tina - that was beautiful. You guys have no idea how much I need a safe place right now. But that story is for another day.

Barb - I know exactly how you feel. I also lost my brother, my best friend, in an accident many years ago now. I still miss him every day, but of course it is more pronounced on anniversaries, birthdays, holidays ... I have learned over the years to treasure the special relationship we once had and to believe that he is still with me somehow to guide me through some troubled waters (he has both oars in the water right now!). Let yourself feel whatever you need to feel and cry to your very soul. It doesn't bring him back, but it gives you a release that you need. Hugs!!!

Hello fellow nesters. I just love this place and all of you in it. Carol, it jusy isn't enough to say "thank you" for all the effort you put in here, not only for getting it all started, but for writing (or making sure we have) a blog every day. You truly are a gem.

Tina, that was a wonderful sentiment and perfect description of our safe haven. It brought tears to my eyes.

Big (((HUGS))) to Just_Lin, Barbara in wa, Bon'O, and Jodi. Hold on to those memories.

DonnaJean, Still praying for you and Laurie Elizabeth, hoping she will be home soon.

It's lunch time here in the west so I think I'll have some of MEK's yummy deli sandwich. Thanks MEK. I have ordered Chinese for dinner and the deliveries are staggered so that it will be here for all the dinner time zones. And VIG, I have ordered a special veggie dinner for you. Enjoy!

Jodi, I emailed Delly and gave her directions to this place, but I think her computer is down so I don't know when she will get it.

I hope everyone is having a great day.

Peace, Barb

Hi Night Owls! Someone was kind enough to come and find me and tell me how to get here. Thank you Bear!

I loved the "Room" blog. I have a reaccuring dream that I am in my home and suddenly I find a hallway that I have never noticed before. When I go down the hallway, I find a few rooms that are beautifully decorated and comfortable and I realize that I have all this wonderful new space to use... and then I wake up. I talked to some people about this dream and I was told that I felt like there were too many people in my house. Well, I haven't had this dream since we got rid of our last au pair AND what used to be her bedroom is now MY special little getaway. So there may have been some truth to that, but I also appreciate having someone here to help me when I had 3 babies to care for.

Barb, a HUGE hug... and if you change your mind and want to come up for the party I have a place for you to sleep!! If not, come up and visit me soon!!

East Bay J said...

Hi again dear ones,

A big huge hug for those in need. I wish I had the words to comfort you. A big hug will hopefully help.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Glynis, nice to see you. You will love it here. Tina, for the first time I am going to be serious with you and tell you what a great post of The Room you did this morning. It so describes this place and the people on this blog. Ok...enough with the serious!!

Thank you so much many of you for the get well wishes on myspace and here. LynnD, thanks for sharing your whopper with me. Now that one picture you sent, is that your husband with the crown on? Anyone curious on what he looks like go over to myspace comments. Quite a handsome devil!!

I am still feeling like crap but I did enjoy some of the breakfast items you brought over, Mo. I was wondering if next time you could add some bloody mary or mimosa's? I can't go get any right now...I am sick, remember? As I got up for a minute this morning, I was amazed at what I was seeing on the floor of our room. Bodies everywhere. You guys all march, crash, bump and fall on the floor and then you can't get up or even help each other up. I think we might need to install some poles (not for dancing) for you all to pull yourself up into a standing position. It was not a pretty sight. I think the groaning woke me up. We need to talk over this "issue" and get it fixed. MEK, you are probably going to have to pay for the poles as this whole thing started as your idea. Maybe your sister will go half with you...welcome to her too.

Barb, sending hugs to you today and JustLin too. My husband went in with just a cold and didn't come back out of the hospital too. I know how you feel. Anyway, hugs all around (don't worry, I have a mask on so you won't get my germs).

DonnaJean: Please know we are all still thinking and praying for Laurie every day.

Ok, back to bed for awhile.

Hey G!!! Nice to see you in here. So far, so good - it's troll-less and fun (remember the good old days?).

I'm SO in for the day now. It's running at about -45 with windchill and I've already done my hospital run for the day. Hubby is away and I'm in my jammies searching the archives for a good old movie. Popcorn and snugglebunny, here I come!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne/Denver I'm sorry to hear that the same situation happened with your husband. Sometimes I still think I'm in a bit of disbelief and shock over it. I'm sorry you are sick. Maybe a good Bloody Mary would be just the thing to knock out that nasty virus. I love Bloody Marys. Maureen, please bring some for me too. :)

Hello everyone!

Wasn't Tina's blog great, I am going to share something with you all, as I don't think Tina would mind, she was so nervous about her blog, I of course assured her that it was great, what I loved is that she took that step, the writer blog step. Her feelings were so strong, that words just flowed, and flowed they did!

Thanks Tina for sharing!

Yesterday whabby did the same, it was a blog that he has been working on for sometime, and it was important to him to finish it and he did for the nightowls.

Thanks Whabby for sharing!

Now for all you nightowls, you can do it to, just let it flow, think of something that is important to you and write it down. It is so great that this blog is a "group" effort. I would love some blogs from you all!

If you need help, you can always send me a rough draft, and I would be happy to help! Send them to my myspace or my e-mail cpgem88@gmail.com.

Lets do this together!

In the meantime, I guess you are stuck with my thoughts!

Smiles :O)

Hi, Jodi
Hi, Glynis I'm glad you found this room that cpgem8 so graciously built for us. As Tina so eloquently stated in today's blog, this is a safe place where we can all be our true selves. We are free to express our opinions and talk amongst ourselves without being considered tedious. It's fine if you still participate on the other blog. I do, to some extent, and I have been assured by MEK that I am not "cheap" by doing so. See? Just unconditional love here.

Lynn D I was the one going to the sporting goods store, and yes I am ready to do some serious marching now. I forgot to warn Glynis about that.

Hopefully, you will never start bleeding out of your nose like in the movie you are watching. But if you do, we have lots of tampons and you could shove a couple in your nostrils. Isn't that a pretty picture?

This was a perfect Bay Area day for tennis! Not a cloud in the sky! I didn't play very well, though!

Welcome, G! I think you'll like it here!

Special thoughts to Barb and CG and Jodi today. CG, I love that metaphor that they're sticking their oars in when the waters of your life get choppy!

Tinka: It's gonna happen! Just a matter of time!

OK, nap time! Have a great afternoon, owls!

I promise to stop using so many exclamation marks. That was... tedious!

Well I better go try to do something with my hair.

Oh, my, since we went to the mall, I think I have five new people to wave too.

Okay, let me get this right, Glynis, SacBarb, CG, Bonnie, and Carol. Helloooooo!

I was able to get some really great deals today at the mall. I always buy for the next year. So now all my kids have their clothes bought for next winter. I even have all their winter jackets bought. It was a very productive day.

What is for dinner tonight? My new healthier way of eating doesn't start until Tuesday, so lay on the fat.

Oh no, I smell poop, I will be back later.

Just checking in. I keep trying to get something done around here but my new DVD's keep calling me. I am not strong enough to resist so I have been having a lazy day watching GW and The Walton's and listening to the rain outside. One of the nice traits about Bichons is the fact that they want to do what you want to do. They will walk 3 miles with you or they will sleep beside you all day if you are being lazy. I would call this a lazy day. Tango and Tia have not asked to be walked. They have gone in and out their doggy door to the back yard and that is all the exercise for the day. I will make it up to them after the weekend. I think that is what week-ends are for, being lazy. Of course when I was younger it was party time. Ah, the good old days.
Nice to see you drop in again Bear and yes 'there will be a day'.
Barbara in Wa, you are welcome. I have received a lot of support from these friends and you will too. That's the beauty of this group.
Back to GW.
Will check back later.

Good Evening!!

I have tried to rest and sleep all day to really get this "bug" to leave my system.. mucinex gave me some spasms, so I thought I better not take it again - but, my point being........

I missed out on the group hugs - SO, I'm offering up another one!!! Isn't it amazing how much we all have in common when we can actually talk about it.....

Goldie and I found out thru private email last year that our fathers passed away on the same day (different years) - so we found comfort in each other - as several of you have today...

I need to catch up and will "be back"...

MEK in AZ said...

GLYNIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! welcome!!! so glad that you found us - pull up a chair, cabinet is full of snacks and "adult" beverages!! As Tina, so eloquently, stated - sometimes the room is full, sometimes you can sit in total silence - other times we are marching (it's gotten to be full, blown out race) to 100, 200, etc...... (I swear I have never knocked anyone down!!!)

Cgirl - good to see you back - hope you found a movie to watch - we are going to watch "wild hogs" on starz at 7pm...

Just Lin - thanks for kissing my face - Mr. MEK won't come near me until this sickness is gone!! LOL

Whabby - are you trying to tell me that my !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is tedious??!!!! LOL ;-)

Lynn D - your words earlier were right on - thank you!!

I am back. I tell who doesn't love a B movie. A handful of people survived the virus. After one of the passengers, a woman in this case took over the controls of the plane because the pilots succumbed to the virus. Even though she had only flown a cessna. Oh yeah and we had the obligatory bad govt. guy trying to crash the plane so they would not spread the virus. Gotta love formula scripts.

Just lin you guys paint such a pretty picture of me. I am now wearing my depends with tampons up my nose, coughing and hacking and chugging flu meds. Waiting flat on my back for Mr. Lynn D to deliver a whopper with cheese. LMAO Oh yeah I have my track shoes and helmet, knee pads, elbows pads on too ready to march to the finish line. ROFLMAO

I hope everyone is having a lazy day. I am now sucked into the cooking shows on PBS. I don't know why? Because I am a crappy cook but I am mesmerized and can't quit watching.

Well I just finished watching America's test kitchen.

This may sound weird but that nerdy guy who is the host is kind of sexy. Maybe it is the way he talks about food. Kind of snobby but kind of hot.

I also think that he and that little Bridget cook may have or had a thing going on. They sure seem to make eyes at each other and there is some serious covert flirting there. There spouses better watch out.

I see MEK won. Yes you do resemble the wench remark! LMAO

Hi Jodi!

Glynis does the number 29 mean anything to you??? Me either LOL Just thought I would add to you day of numerology. Maybe you should by a lotto ticket.

OK I better move off the couch for awhile and get the blood flowing.

Hi Tina Great Blog!

Hi cp that is a great movie! Enjoy

iteach said...

Lacrosse- too funny, because my class just read about it this week in their reading book.

I live in a small town surrounded by cornfields, so they found lacrosse totally interesting. None of them had heard about it until they we read it this week from our reading book. We learned that the game orginally started from the Native Americans. They played the game whenever there was an arguement. Whoever won the game won the arguement.

Thank heavens we don't have those rules now a days. I am too clumsy I would never win any of my arguements.

Glynis said...

I was on my high school Lacrosse team. It is practically the state sport of Maryland! And YES, there is boys and girls lacrosse, but the girls version is much less violent. The boys are allowed to hit with the stick, so they wear helmets and shoulder pads like football players.

29? No. 69? well... HA!

Evening all, Mary checking in. Just got home from our VFW steak dinner. We were worried that the cold weather would keep folks away.Happy day! We sold out of everything! My only complaint was that so many people were smoking! I smoked all night and never had a cigarette! cough cough! We don't dare go smoke free, I think 75% of our customers smoke!

Hugs to everyone who is missing someone. My father passed away 15 years ago this Jan.10th. He was a preacher & shoe cobbler. All 7 of us were with him when he passed. We closed his door & sang his favorite songs. A nurse came in and asked if she could open the door as others wanted to hear. Dad died shortly after.Don't feel sad for me. I have only good memories of him :+)

Tina~ I loved your post! I love our room(nest). I am so glad we all have some place this special to go to. Love every dang one of you!!

MEK~ You crack me up! I can see you as a little girl, jumping, hair flying yelling I won! I won!!

Bon'O said...

tina~~a serious question in search of a serious answer.....The twins don't get along? Isn't that unusual, if so?

Tina~in_ut said...

Bon'O~ they don't....boy and girl...they are like night and day. They are in the same class and won't even help each other with their homework....AND...he learns faster than her. BUT....when I was cooking them....she would always stomp on him and he cowered in the "corner" with his hands by his head. Maybe that's where it all started~ :|

lil_ole_me said...

Tina--for the most part, mine always got along. My oldest 2 are 2 yrs. 8 months apart, then we waited 5 years, and the youngest 2 are 2 yrs. 8 months apart. The oldest two were a huge help, especially with the youngest, they were 10 and almost 8 when she was born, and spoiled her terribly. I'm left with the consequences now--the oldest are 23 and almost 21, and gone/in college, and my "baby" just turned 13!! Yikes, I think I'm showing my age........LOL

MEK in AZ said...

LOL at you guys - talking about me "behind my back" - Locking the door - geez......... i AM feeling the love!! :-)

Sadly - i don't think i can stay awake for the march to 200!! :-)

Just_Lin said...

Tina~in_ut Another serious question, was he the smaller of the two? I saw a documentary once about twins and they said sometimes the larger will actually try to do the other one in. It's a survival thing. They want all the nutrients. Nature is not always nice.

Bon'O said...

hmmm...interesting about the twins. I miscarried twins when daughter was 3. Ex's mom had 3 sets of twins and one of his sisters had 2 sets. He was 2nd oldest of 11!
