Seeing

by VIG

In the beautiful west coast city, I enter the area that is called the Downtown Eastside. It is a part of the city that the wealthy talk about with unbridled disdain and disgust in their privileged voices. It is the place where people go who have lost sight of childhood dreams and who have found poverty and addiction in their place. It is not a “nice” part of the city and the “nice” people of the city are warned to stay away. I keep my eyes down as I walk to the bus that I pray will take me out of there quickly and without incident. I walk as if I am not there and hope that I am not approached. The masses struggle by, carrying with them shelter and worldly possessions in shopping carts and garbage bags. A woman in a doorway lies blanketed by empty bottles and a man staggers toward me with his hand out. My eyes drill into the sidewalk and I rush by without raising my gaze from the concrete. I disregard any attempts that he is making to ask me for the help he needs to survive the day - in whatever way that might be. Through fear I ignore him and continue on, then I hear a voice plead “Why won’t anyone look me in the eye anymore. Aren’t I a human?” That voice stops me in my tracks. Perhaps it is a line that he has found successful in “guilting” people into giving. Or perhaps I am the straw that breaks the camels back. Another person he passes on the street that he determines, by whatever criteria, could help him and could see him, but who is choosing instead to render him invisible. I realize that I, who consider myself to be a caring person, am fooling myself. I am caring when I feel safe and am in the “deserving” part of town. In an instant and without looking, I have judged and determined that the person with his hand out is a threat and a social problem and thereby worthy of being passed by. I go back to him and give him the five dollars that I would have spent at the first Starbucks that I saw while riding on the bus. I look him in the eye and smile. He says thank you and God bless like he really means it. I continue down the street and I raise my eyes to see what I have been missing. And I smile. I smile at every human that I see. The response that I receive in return will stagger and affect me for many years. People I come across on that street of misplaced dreams seem genuinely shocked that a passerby is making eye contact and is smiling. And every person smiles back at me. From the words of the man with the outstretched hand and in those shy, authentic smiles, I learn to lift my eyes from the pavement and to really see “the human” in us all.

VIG, you moved me! Thanks for helping me put the extra step into my walk this morning.

Oh Vig I knew I loved you! That is a great life lesson.

I volunteer at our local foodbank at first it was something I did for me a need to get out of the house and connect with people and give back to our community.

I soon became attached to the people who came for food. I realized they came for many reasons and circumstances. Some were struggling to make ends meet, some where homeless, some had children and then there is our elderly. Yes we do get people who have drinking problems and are drug addicted.

I realized like you, very quickly that a smile and a what can I get for you? What do you need? Transformed these people in way that touched me to my core. They smile back and see that I see them and I have no judgements about their circumstances. What surprised me was that I really don't. They are people who need help and I think most of us who volunteer there regularly have seen that it could be us in that line anytime because we truly don't know what life will hand us in the future.

My greatest reward has been the hugs and the smiles and the god bless you's I get and they are always from the people who I really don't expect them from.

Beautiful story! Thank you!

VIG: That was beautiful and heart touching! I have a habit of avoiding eye contact too when I'm feeling insecure, but you've inspired me to try to change that habit. :)

SacBarb: My parents always encouraged me to spend time getting to know someone first and not rush into marriage, but I don't think they meant 14 years either. ;) I understand why you and her parents are thrilled. Congratulations to all of you!

Tina: There are other craft stores besides Michael's??? ;)~

iTeach, Maureen, and Lovey: Top o' the mornin' to ya! :)

Vig- I thought the same thing as Lovey- Powerful. We all need to remember that 'but for the grace of god there go I'. Dignity should be something no one has to lose.

Have a good day everyone. I am off to so some work now(I know, hard to believe). But I fully intend to get on here and read all those comments from the night owls last night!

VIG: Thanks for sharing your experience! If Alex was with us, I KNOW what song lyrics he or she would be posting:

Who's walking down the streets of the city
Smiling at everybody she sees
Who's reaching out
to capture the moment
Everyone knows its VIGGY!

And VIGGY has... etc.

We have a homeless woman who often hangs out in front of the Lone Star Sunday afternoons, and always drop a dollar in her cup. She is the nicest person! On the other hand, if I'm walking through a really bad San Francisco neighborhood, I tend to do the "avoid eye contact" thing too. I'll try and do better next time.

BTW, I just posted the worst pun ever to appear on the Rossblog. Was it "necessary"? Hell, yeah! LOL!

ibebold said...

Off to run errands..

Have a good day everyone!!

Lynn D said...

ibebold: Glad you liked the picture on myspace! You two are way cool! LOL

MEK: Broke down and lurked at another blog. I see some of our owlettes are paying Homage to you!

Zona: I love you!

Whabbear: Read your pun and LMAO! I see that Tinkerbell felt the need to give you a slap! ROFLMAO and it brought Delores C. Running! LMAO more!

Bon'O said...

VIG: Tina kept me up posting photo comments on her 'Delores Album' until 4:00 a.m., so I got up a bit ago only to see who the Mystery Blogger might be. Your beautiful blog warmed my heart if not my frost-bitten toes.

The first thing I did was read it through----twice. The second thing was to peek outside, on snow watch. There I found three ugly old crows on the patio devouring the little crusts of bread I had tossed out last night to greet the squirrels and beautiful little birds of morning. My first reaction was to loudly shoo them away. Then I decided to SEE that even crows need sustenance in the cold.

Have a Thoughtful Thursday, owlie pals. Back to bed for an early 'siesta'. The very word makes me feel warmer.

Tinkatia said...

Good Morning - I am late for check in and I bet the waffles are cold and all the best comments have already been made to VIG. That has taught me to comment first and answer messages later.

VIG - Great blog today my cyber sis. I knew you would be a fantastic writer just by your comments.

Whabbear - It was a good pun but no farther please my dear. Remember Amicus and I have 'Zest' soap waiting just in case.

I am busy once more getting ready for my cleaning couple. Every second Thursday comes around so fast. I am also treating a friend for his birthday tonight. We are going to dinner and to see 'Juno'. I may not be checking back until tomorrow so have fun everyone.

Oh I must set my VCR for "Ghost Whisperer".

Paul Franson said...

Good morning owls ... looks like everyone's asleep.

Vig, I love your blog. I try not to judge people (except those darn rude cell phone users, LOL!) but I have to admit when I'm in an uncomfortable place, I will also do the "safe" thing and look away. Thanks for the reminder to pause and smile. After all, there but for Grace go I.

SacBarb, congrats to your son and his longtime love. My oldest son has been with his girlfriend for 10 years. They hinted/threatened to have a wedding on their 10th anniversary but the date came and went. At least you've given me hope (I love my pseudo-DIL) for 2011, lol! As for the other daughter and two sons (ages 21-25), there are no immediate prosects. We have a 4yo grandson that I fear may be a teenager before he has a brother, sister, or cousin!

Just_Lin said...

VIG ~~ What a wonderful and thought provoking blog. You have a real gift with expressing yourself in writing. I try hard not to dehumanize the people on the streets. Sometimes it's difficult to not feel uneasy as they may be acting in a way that makes you wonder if they are mentally stable. We have let so many of those poor souls wander the streets without proper care. Thank you for your beautiful blog, VIG.

Lynn D ~~ Congrats on #1! I love your owl! What long legs you have. Maybe they will be an advantage in the marches. LOL Also, thank you for being a volunteeer and spreading love to our fellow humans. Kudos to you!

Maureen ~~ Thanks for breakfast. You do a great job providing such a delicious assortment.

canadiangirl ~~ I'm hoping things are better for your dear old kitty. I have 3 cats, ages 16, 17, and 18. ((HUGS))

canadiangirl said...

VIG - beautifully written. We all have one of those "neighbourhoods" where we tend to turn our rings inwards and stare at the ground. Here, we have "squeegy kids" at busy downtown intersections that run to clean (badly) your windscreen while you wait for the light to change. Most people turn up their radio and stare straight ahead. There is one guy who holds up a cardboard sign that simply says "Smile". I always give him money - and a smile.

Thanks for the prayers for my kitty (his name is Checkers), but it looks like it is the end for him. I am taking him to the Vet this afternoon and don't expect to bring him home. I'm so very sad but I have to love him enough to let him go.

goldie said...

Ok, who is going to break it to outatuune, that they can have babies without benefit of marriage??? LOL

My congrats on the nuptuals! My son is getting married in Oct. He and his fiance have 2 children together (hence, my knowledge of the no marriage thingy). y beautiful grandbabies Brynn and Gavin. I have always called her my DIL- daughter in love. She loves my son, he loves her, we love her and its all good!

Paul F aka outatuune: I confess to you I judge cell phone users! LMAO

Just lin: Ooooh I never thought about my long legs for the marches. I just wanted show them off! Don't get much of a chance anymore!

Bono: In the words of Brittany Spears "Your Not So Innocent" LOL

Iteach: I am now calling you my good luck charm. Since you found me I have sold two pieces of music at full price and I have people bidding on and watching my auctions. You have brought the traffic! Visit me any time.

Good day, friends!

VIG--what a wonderful blog, and so very true. Too many times I have done the same thing, it's hard to go out of your "comfort zone", but you have given me the courage to do so, so thank you!

CG--hugs to you and Checkers, I hope everything is peaceful for both of you.

MEK in AZ said...

CG - my heart goes out to you today........ we are here for you. love ya!!!!

Amicus said...

Canadiangirl: {{{Hugs}}} for you and Checkers. We'll be here for you if you need to talk or need a shoulder to cry on. After the loss of one of my pets, a friend of mine said to me, "When we help our pets cross the Rainbow Bridge, we take their pain into our hearts so they can be free of it." Her words were comforting, because it helped me to think of it that way. I hope they're of some comfort to your hurting heart too.

Lynnd~ You get an atta girl for being first!!

Vig~ Your writing was so good that I could visualize the whole thing. We have so many great writers here!
The only street/homeless people I have seen were in Vegas. It drives me crazy to see some of them sit out in the heat with their children! The sign they held up was "We are stranded here! We need money to get home". Well, we have seen the same people, same sign now for the last 3 yrs 4 times a yr. I quit giving them money a long time ago.

LynnD~ MORE! I want to hear more of your scandalise secrets!

Paul~You sent me running to my notes. I forgot you were out-a-tune LOL! I thought Whabbear had some male competition!

Amicus~ I loved you post! When it was time to let our sweet Trixie go last year, I was comforted in knowing that she did not cross over alone. We brought her body home to bury her on our back property where she loved to run. We have a wooden cross to mark her grave.

Lynn D: Have you considered auditioning for the Rockettes? You've got the legs for it. ;)

Tinka: Happy Birthday to your friend! Have a wonderful dinner and hope you enjoy the movie.

Bon'O: I have the hardest time trying to think of adjectives that start with the same letter as the day of the week, like "Terrific Tuesday" or "Wonderful Wednesday", but I love the one you came up with today, "Thoughtful Thursday". How appropriate for today's blog! :)

Whabbear: I'm still wondering why it's necessary to ask if it's necessary? ;)

Good afternoon Nesters. To all the late night Hooters, sorry I missed out on all the fun. You guys really are a hoot!

VIG: Your blog touched my heart. There are a lot of homeless people where I used to work and I tried my best not to judge them and to smile at them, but it was difficult at times. I applaud you.

CG: I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and Checkers in my prayers.

Amicus: Thanks. They both said they didn't ever want to get married or have kids. I can only hope, now that they changed their mind about marriage, that they will change their mind about kids too. I am afraid to ask.

Maureen: Thanks for keeping us so well fed. Love you girl.

Goldie & Carol: My kids used to make fun of me when I talked to myself and I told them it was the only intelligent conversation I could get. And I got some of the best answers from myself.

Whabbear: I had to go look. ROFLMAO And congrats for bringing DC out of hiding.

Outatuune: Thanks, we had completely given up hope. Good luck to you.

Karen from Canada asked me to give a big shout out to all of the Night Owls from her.

And finally, I just want to say what an honor it is for me to be associated with this elite group of people. I love you all and I love this special place.

Peace, Barb

How do I get rid of that security box that comes up everytime I refresh or want to post???

Bon'O said...

just lin ~ Congrats! so, IS it orgasmic? must be, sacbarb's doing the happy dance from just watching.

lynn d ~ Why is that whenever I look at 'you', my darling, I start singing "Froggy went a'courtin' & he did ride, um-hum"? Someone might hack your my*space and change your 'mood' to 'froggy' :o) You'll be pleased to know the snow-snifters that hit here around 3:30 are, so far, pretty wimpy.

Places to go, things to do so may not get to watch the parade(s) tonight. If I return, I'll bring plenty beverages to go with whatever snacks are on hand.

(((cg)))
****************

goldie: when I went to the end to preview and submit this I saw your question about the security lock-box. I saved the instructions I posted the first day or two of the blog. I'll find & repost here so they're hndy for you, ok?

Just_Lin said...

Goldie I forget who gave us the instructions, but I believe they were posted on the 12th.

Bon'O said...

Here ya go, Goldie ~~~

wanted to share a tip for those on Internet Explorer about to shoot their screen over the annoying security lockbox. This is way easier to DO than to describe :o) ....................

If you're on Internet Explorer:
1. Go to 'Tools' on IE
2. Click on Internet Options
3. On 'Internet Options', open the Security Tab.
4. Select "Custom Level"
5. Scroll down to 'Miscellaneous' (near the bottom).
6. Within Miscellaneous, find subsection for 'Display Mixed Content'
(this is for Secure/Unsecure, i.e. text AND photos, etc.)
7. Set 'Display Mixed Content' radio button to 'ENABLE'
(default is 'Prompt', which is what causes the lockbox to come up every time)
8. Click on 'Apply' at the bottom of that IE controls window.
9. Click on 'OK' box at bottom left.
10. Close Internet Explorer to get the change to 'take'.
11.Reopen Internet Explorer, sign back into the blog, & you'll no longer get the lockbox, and will be able to see profile photos, etc.

Just_Lin said...

bonO No, I'm afraid I was left hanging. There was a miscount. Probably a dangling chad or something. sacBarb is the true winner of 100.

Bon'O said...

I'm pretty sure it was all yours, J L.

Just_Lin said...

I found a new owl. Is this one less disturbing than the other one?

sacBarb said...

JL: That's funny that you say "hanging chad" because my middle son's name is Chad. I don't know how he is hanging though...

sacBarb said...

JL: I like the new one, but I didn't find the other one disturbing

sacBarb said...

Bon'O: Thanks for posting the instructions. That security box was really annoying.

Just_Lin said...

How about this one? It looks like it has really long eyelashes.

Yeah, I think I'll stick with this one. It's kind of glamorous as far as owls go. And I've always wanted long eyelashes.

JustL~ OOO I like this one! The first one really got my attention, this one has a soft side. Depends on what you are going for. Mine is a little stern looking LOL! I'm just too lazy to look anymore!

Barbara_in_COviaWA said...

vig.....I just read your blog. I applaud you being able to do that. I unfortunately can not. And since I have come to see that this is a place where we can talk openly, and without judgement, I will tell you why. I see too much of the bad in people now. Mostly with strangers. I know some of you have gone through loss, gone through pain almost too hard to live with. But for me it is so hard to be approached by a stranger. I panic a little, I don't want them to talk to me, I don't want to look at them, I don't even want them to look at me. I know you guys know about my brother. You know that he was murdered. He was killed by a complete stranger who approached him as he came out of a grocery store. Someone who tried to rob him but instead od waiting for my brother to hand over the wallet that the robber asked for, he just shot my brother instead. My brother would have given the guys anything he wanted. The shooter even told the cops that when he shoved the gun into my brother chest and demanded the wallet my brothers only words to the robber were "It's cool. It's cool." And then he shot him. So no, I do not want to have anyone approach me. I don't want to support alcholics and drug addicts who rob people when they need their fix. I know, I know that not all homeless people are like that. That is why I buy blankets, and coats, and donate money and donate food to shelters. That is why I help out at the local senior center serving food once a year. I wish I could give them more of my time, and I hope that I do find more time to give them. But as for strangers on the street, I will forever fear them.
Thank you for listening.

mary/mi: What trainer???? That's my cable guy! And he is perfectly satisfied holding my owl...for now!

lil_ole_me said...

Thanks for posting the way to get rid of that annoying box! It was driving me crazy. LOL at Just_Lin and her owls.

I am so computer illiterate that I have no clue how to put a picture up on here, LOL!

I'll be back, gotta go find me something to eat, when I do, I'll share for all!

sacBarb said...

barbara_in_wa: It is perfectly understandable why you feel that way about strangers. You cannot control feelings you have that surround the tragic event that occurred because of a stranger. You are a good and caring person. I wish I could give you a great big hug in person, but absent that, here is a big cyber ((((HUG)))).

Just_Lin said...

lil ole me I am totally computer illiterate, too. But I managed this and it was easy. Find a photo online. Right click on it and choose to "Save As..", your computer's photo area will come up with the photo you chose and you choose "Save". Now you come to this website and go to Dashboard in the upper right hand corner, you then go to "Edit Your profile", scroll down to the photo area and click on "Browse". The photo area of your computer will appear. Choose the photo you want, I think I double clicked.
Voila, it gets saved on your profile. Anyway, that's how it worked for me. It was easy.

Mary/MI said...

Barb~ You have a right to feel like you do. I have to admit I have some of the same fear. I donate to various charities as much as I can.I may not give the street people money, but I do my best not to look down on them. You can never be too careful!

I want to get me a panini (sp?) machine. I would like to know if there is a preferred brand?

Mary/MI said...

I did not just write "I want to get me". What horrific grammar LOL!!

VIG: Beautiful thoughts, beautiful writing from a completely wonderful and beautiful person. Love you.

LYNN D: Congrats on being first. I just had to get in a last word so I could move on! ;)

CPGEM8: Sooner or later we ALL talk to ourselves. At least we know what we mean..;)

AMICUS: Professor Owl!?! YES!!!

CGIRL: Losing a beloved pet is heartbreaking. Many hugs to you.

SACBARB: Looks like your owl is checking you out while you check out the cable guy from behind! {HUGS}

GOLDIE: Your owl's on pot!! ;)

BARB/WA: The pain in your post is so real. I am SO sorry for your loss and completely understand your apprehension. {{HUGS}} to you.

Just_Lin said...

Barbara in WA I am so, so sorry about your brother. I totally understand why you would have that emotional response to being approached by a stranger. It immediately triggers your "flight or fight" mechanism that we all have and need for survival. You are generously providing food and warmth to those in need. You are making the world a better place.

Mary/MI said...

Lynn d~ place your finger on your owls head for a minute...now you have some idea what I look like in a bathing suit LOL!!

I'm missing you guys so much!!! Hope everyone is doing ok!!

I wanted to tell Mary that the kitchen store that I work in sells the CUISINART brand of panini machines - 3 year warranty!! They're supposed to be good - but I haven't tried one so I can't honestly say. I have a "manual" panini press - it's a Le Crueset grill pan with a super heavy cast iron top - works GRRREAT!!

Lynn D said...

Barb in WA: I can feel your pain too. I thank god everyday that I have never lost a loved one to murder. I can't imagine the pain of that loss. You do what you can and really in the long run that is all any of us can do. I don't know if I would react any different if that had happened to my brother. Sending you (((Hugs)))

Mary/MI: Panini maker: Wrap a brick in tin foil and voila. I just saved you a hundred bucks! Thank you Lynn D

Just Lin: Like your new picture it is like you have orange lifesavers for eyes!

Sacbarb: I am moving to your area if the cable guys look like that! Congrats on being 100!!!

Goldie: Honey why do you look petrified?

Hi Linda squamish!!!

Hope everyone is having a great evening! Going to try to choke down dinner. Nothing tastes good.

Again thank you all for the making me laugh everyday!

Just Lin: LOL! Good point about the pointer. Lots of big eyes here. ;)

Barbara in WA: I didn't know about your brother so my heart sank when I read your post. That is so sad. I too can understand why being approach by strangers causes that kind of emotional reaction. Sending a big, heartfelt hug.

Linda in Squamish: Swoop in anytime! :) It's always great to get a Hello from friends.

Oh, Barbara I am so glad that you posted.

My husband and I use to love to watch West Wing. The reason why we adored that TV show so much was because they did a very good job of showing both sides of an issue.

I see that happening a lot here in this blog and that is why I like to nest here.

I respect yours and VIG's feelings toward strangers. Thanks for showing both sides, it made me think.

Hi Linda ~waving madly~ welcome to the nest.

mary- use the brick, saves a fortune.

iteach- my hubby and I used to watch WW too

Zona- not the same as a doctor, but I was at a party once while in high school, turned around and saw my Algebra TEACHER smoking a joint. Her nickname was Spacey (stephanie) - and that was the day I found out why. Oh, and yes she passed me on with a grade far better then I deserved ;)

Mary/MI Look at them on Amazon.com. Most of the products there have customer reviews.

Good evening.. seriously, ladies - I have NOT felt well all day - and proceeded to "lose" my dinner immediately after eating - so i have to take it slow tonight - heck, I didn't even "run" and got sick....... imagine...

Congrats to Just Lin on being 100 - and - I will only lick your eyes if they have chocolate in them..

Barb in WA - love you and extra cyper hugs tonight.............. the closest shopping area to our town is in a not so great area of Tucson - in fact, there is NO way that I will go up there after 2pm in the afternoon - anyway - i always LOOK everyone IN the eye - just to let them know that I am TOTALLY aware of their presents..... I feel it is the only way to "protect" myself. Probably not right to suspect everyone - but alot safer..

CG- have been thinking of you ALL day - are you doing okay?? Let us know!!

Hope everyone had a great day!! Hope to be able to hang in here tonite - we'll see..

Lots of helpings of heartbreak and hilarity since I last checked in!

First for the heartbreak:

CG: Hugs! Horrible decision, but you did it with courage. And it was the right thing.

Barb in Wa: You can't judge a man, or an owl, until you've walked a mile in their shoes. So true!

Now for the posts that cracked me up:

SacBarb: Let us know when you figure out how Chad dresses... to the left, or the right?

Mary/Mi: Obviously, good things come in small packages.

But I didn't have to tell you that. You've been married 29 years!

Hi MEK, sorry you are unwell. Feel better soon.

I have read some great blogs here Carol-I am too intimidated to try to come up with one as good.

Perhaps you would like another story of me getting kicked out of family bars or smoking (did I just confess) pot with my Algebra teacher? Lordy there are more stories I can dreg up. My claim to the family fame is my mother SWEARS every grey hair on her head is from me. None from my brother or sister. All me. I just tell them I paved the way and made her numb by the time they thought of anything :)

*Lindainsquamish ~ Hi, girl! Would love to see you more often.

*Mary/Mi ~ I'm a Le Creuset girl all the way, but I have a Cuisinart panini maker - - love it!

*Carol ~ you lasted longer than I before tiring of your 'winter wonderland' my*space. Much as I loved my Jack Frost theme, I was beginning to feel a little too 'chilly' a week or so ago and just had to change. I notice *Lovey did a BEAUTIFUL job of redecorating today. Love her new Valentine theme.

and p.s. to Carol ~ I, for one, look forward to reading a blog from you tomorrow, and bet I have plenty of company....but if you're ever not in the mood, remember it's perfectly okay to say "I got nothin' ,Blog Buddies". We're such a chatty group, you could probably just throw out an opening pitch and we'd go into extra innings!

Still loving the diversity of writings, opinions, experiences, emotions, humor and trivia in our cozy nest. G'nite, all.

Cpgem8,
How funny that you mentioned layouts, because I have been fighting the urge all day to change mine after seeing Birdee's. I told Tinka Feb 1st would be Layout Change Day (my favorite holiday LOL), and I'm trying to stick to that plan. I don't know if I'm going to make it though. Having to wait is harder than having to give up chocolate. ;)

Hi there everyone!

VIG what an amazing blog. You really have a way with words.

Thank you for posting.

CG my heart hurts for you. We lost our cute little doggy, Lilly, almost 2 months ago. It was so difficult to let her go.

Our cat is going to be 16 in a few months, and we hope that she will last a couple more years, at least.

Lynn D, congrats on being first!

MEK sorry you are sick again, geez you sure have had your share of illness lately.

I HOPE my owl pic shows up, I have had a difficult time tonight getting it to "stay".

Mo thank you for always providing delicious meals for us!

Big hugs to everyone else, tomorrow is Friday!!

Goldie - where in AZ? we have SO many crazy murder things going on - I think it's the heat!! LOL

Iteach - tomorrow night is a rerun, but if you haven't been watching - this episode scared Zona and Tinka - it's about the myth of Bloody Mary in the mirror - I had NEVER heard of it until I watched GW that night -

EBJ - yes, I just can NOT shake this bug!!!!!! (and NO, Tina, I am not milking anything!! LOL)

Mary/MI you sound like a pocket venus to me!

Cp: I will love anything you choose to write about! I guess I need some panty hose for those legs! LOL

I am in the group thinking about changing my myspace layout too. Maybe tomorrow. I will dig through my antique postcards and see if I find one I like for my avatar.

Has anyone seen Jodi today? Jodi where are you????

Goldie sorry I scared you! But I am really thinking you look a little stoned in your picture! LMAO

Nite nite my little owls!

goldie said...

MEK- I dont know, just AZ. Late 2006 I think. The sister lives here in WI. I remember when her sister commited suicide. She started the car in the garage, put the 2 year old in there and killed them both. I am just now finding out about the hubby and the suspicions being cast his way. I believe he is being charged with sexual assualt now because it is a naughty to have sex with a `16 year old!

LindainSquamish said...

LOL We have Hooters in Canada too! No kidding about it being a great place to find men MEK!! Sorry you're still not feeling well.

When I was single - I used to go to this fancy schmancy place with a girlfriend or two called the Metro Billiard Cafe - play some pool, eat some appies - check out the guys butts when they were bent over the table (ok Bear - don't go there!!). I got pretty good at the game. It was interesting to "turn the tables" so to speak...and check out the guys. Of course, they were probably doing the same..so much fun. I kinda miss those days....ok...not really! LOL
