Tater, the Clever Cat

by Just_Lin

I used to rescue feral kittens and loved them all but Tater was one of the special ones. Even as a kitten, he preferred me to his litter mates. When they got too rambunctious, he would come sit between my feet. He ended up doing that alot. He was so fat and round that he reminded me of a tater tot, hence the name Tater.

He was gray striped and white, with markings by his nostrils that seem to give him a snotty look. And his attitude lived up to that perception. Because I had so many cats, I would sleep with the bedroom door closed so as to keep them out. All except for Tater who would curl up against my chest as I lay on my side, just as if we were spooning.

Some nights Tater would refuse to settle down. He would attack my feet if they moved under the blanket. He would jump from one dresser to the other, sliding into perfume bottles and making a racket. When he was in this kind of mood, I would have to get out of bed and put him out of the room. Well, he didn't like being ejected so he would go to an end table in the living room where the telephone was and start scratching at it with his paws until he got the receiver to fall from the cradle and land with a clatter on the hard wood floor. Mind you, I was very much a late night person so this is all going on at sometime after 1:00 a.m. Hearing this commotion, I would throw back the covers, fling open the bedroom door and go stomping down the hall saying very bad words. Meanwhile, Tater would race past me, down the hall and jump on to the bed. Sometimes he still wasn't ready to settle down so we might go through this routine several times a night, with me getting more and more angry and expressive each time.

Well, one night we are going through this routine and I am really exasperated. I'm stomping down the hall yelling four letter words, Tater is racing past me to the bedroom, I go to slam the receiver back down in the cradle and right before it lands, I hear "Hello?". I'm stunned! My cat has made a crank call! The deed was done. There was nothing I could do about it. I had already swore at this person and slammed the phone down in their ear. I go back down the hall and there is Tater curled up smugly on the bed.

The next day I called the phone company to have them check in case it was a long distance call. They will take the charge off if you dial long distance by accident. Anyway, the customer service lady was laughing her head off at my story. She said she was never able to get her telephone messages at home because when the answering machine would start going, her cat would run to it and start pawing at it until he hit the right button to turn it off.

Tater has been gone for many, many years but he will always be extra special to me and always hold a special place in my heart.

Just Lin: I love the story of Tater!

I am always amazed at how certain animals steal our hearts and have that connection that we sometimes never find in our human friends!

I have a dog right now that has gone and done it. Seamus, and I think my other two dogs know. But I can't help it he is an animal soul mate.

Loved this blog. Thank goodness my dogs don't dial the phone! LOL

My kitty, Paula, is sleeping on my bed and I just went and covered her with the blanket. She is so cute.

CG I send you a big hug this morning. For all the good you do, you do not deserve any nastiness.

MEK what is going on in San Diego? Sounds like you're going to a golf event?

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning Carol, Lovey, Dreama, IBB, Lynn D, MEK, CG and Goldie and everyone who will post after me. I hope you are having a good start to your day and week.

Lovey: congrats on beating IBB out for #1

I echo Lynn D about our animals stealing our hearts. Each of them have such distinct personalities and it always amazes me that we can form such a bond without speaking a "human language" but a language, nontheless. Great blog Lin.

Zona: I hope you are not floating away today. I saw on the news that Phoenix is flooding.

I am off to early shopping, again. Be back later.

Good Morning MEK and East Bay J!

Well I am going out to clear our stairs on the porch. We have about 3 inches of snow.

I am trapped! I know you all laugh in the big snow states but this only happens about once a year here if that!! So not prepared!

If I'm not back in a little while then some fool is driving too fast across the street from us and is in a ditch and will need to use the phone. Happens about twice a year! The other is when they run out of gas in front of our driveway!

JustLin - I loved your story. It started my day with a smile. I have always loved cats. My mother loves to tell the story of how I would constantly be dragging home 'stray' cats when I was a little girl. My arms would be covered with scratches but I would be insisting the cats were strays and wanted to be with me

Amicus - I am going to look at those pictures of owls now and try to upload them. Thanks for finding them for me.

Good Morning Everyone:

Just got back from a school meeting for Victor my 1st grader, his IEP is on Thursday.

I'm on my way to the DENTIST the root canal is better, but the 6 year old root canal is the one for 8 or 9 months thats been very sensitive to hot coffee, etc. so he said that the root canal I just had should take care of it. HE LIED, so I don't know what hes gonna do today, I'm thinking hes gonna pull the crown of the old root canal thats 6 years old??? maybe who knows, but I'm a bit nervous.

Just_Lin: Thank you for your comment on the other blog, I thought I would answer you here, I just lurk there sometimes I'll post if someone answers me. LOL, but I just wanted to make a comment on his car. I'm sorta into American made cars not foreign, But I don't want to offend anyone. OK Off I go, I will check back in later or tomorrow, if he gives me gas I usually get sleepy from it and come home and go to bed. Talk with you soon.

Good Morning, Lovey, Canadiangirl, Goldie, Ibebold, LynnD, MEK, East Bay J, SacBarb, Tinkatia, Nowmercy, Renee Eve, Sandie!
Hope today is the start of a good week!

Just Lin,
Tater is such a cute name! :) I loved your story! It was heartwarming and funny. Tater reminds me a lot of my cat, Lazarus, who passed away 2 years ago. When he decided I wasn't getting out of bed fast enough, he would bite my big toe. LOL! Not hard but just enough to wake me up.

He had an extra special place in my heart too, because he was a very sick tiny kitten when I found him. The vet didn't seem hopeful that Laz would live through the night, but he did so I felt like the vet brought him back from the dead, hence his name. :)

I had to hand feed him for the first few days, because he wasn't old enough to be weaned yet. Then, I caught his mom and litter mates using a live trap so she took over feeding him for me. The other kittens were sick too, but they weren't as sick as Laz so they were able to run from me. I kept Laz and his mom but found homes for the other kittens.

I have so many wonderful memories of Laz, because he was full of personality like Tater. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! :)

Tinkatia: You have mail. I sent you that owl as a file attachment. Let me know if you have any problems with it.

Renee Eve: Ouch!! Tooth pain is awful. Hope you feel better soon. {{Hugs}}

Waving Hi to all the Owls who will soon be joining us! :)

Amicus said...

Sorry for the deleted comment, but I made a typing error in Laz's name.

Sandie said...

I have a question about cats. I hope I'm not totally ignorant and embarrass myself. LOL

You know how they breed dogs down to smaller sizes--like my standard poodles were the first poodles and now they've bred them down to a teacup size? Why haven't they done that with cats so that they stay little kitty-sized? I know it's often unhealthy when they breed dogs down that small. I realize they would have to breed small cats to get smaller cats, etc. but is that not possible? I've always been curious about that since everyone loves little kittens.

Okay, I'm probably kicked out of the nest now for being stupid . . .

Tinkatia said...

Sandie - That isn't a silly question. It is a good one. There must be some reason why they can't or I am sure they would have done it by now. I would like to research that topic. If I find an answer I will tell you. Some cats end up smaller than others. My orange cat Teddy is twice the size of my son's little tabby but I have never seen any really small. That is the next thing I am going to 'google'.

Sandie said...

Thanks, Tinka!

Tinkatia said...

Amicus - I have been waiting for your e-mail but it hasn't arrived. Where do you suppose it went ? It has flown into cyberspace I guess. Check your 'sent' file and see if it left your nest.

Tinkatia said...

Amicus - I forgot to mention I loved your story of Lazarus.

Renee - I will be thinking of you today. I hope your pain will soon be a memory.

Just_Lin said...

Amicus I'm glad you liked my story. Your Lazarus sound like a very special cat, also. Isn't it funny how some animals find a special place in our hearts?

Canadiangirl I am not forgetting about how much you loved Checkers. Checkers will always be held safe in your heart, too.

Renee Eve I HATE going to the dentist. Good luck.

Sandie Not a stupid question at all. I don't know the answer except that cats are already pretty small and light. They don't have the personality to be a pocket pet and be carried around like some starlets are doing these days with little dogs. A cat would run up the starlet's face and run off. I just don't think there is a market for it.

Tinkatia said...

Amicus - I did it. Let's see if it works.

Tinkatia said...

Thanks Amicus. You are so great.

Marvelous Monday, MorningOwls!!

Haven't read last night's late comments or today's yet, as I've learned it makes it so much harder to just step away from the 'puter. Today, I'm determined to keep the energy-level that sun on snowfall kicked into high gear.

Just-Lin: Great visuals (and *&^%#~ audio!) in your TOTD Tater tale~~thanks for sharing it. In your honor, I traded my owlies for a shot of my Mick, just for this post.

I think I mentioned in Rossland once that I lived in fear Mick would auto-dial 911 while curled next to the phone under the warmth of the nearby table lamp. Since I worked for the Sheriff's Office it would have been SO embarrassing to have a patrol car scream into the driveway Code 3 due to an incomplete 911 call. Thx again for Clever Tater!

Bon'O said...

btw, I didn't have to call to cancel my afternoon pre-colonoscopy consult.......THEY called to cancel! Lucky me!!!!

Sandie: Sadly, teacup cats are being bred. I'm sure they have a lot of health problems too like the teacup dogs. I groom a teacup Poodle named Macy Gray who barely weighs 2 lbs, and I adore her. She is so precious! But, for the first year, Macy's mom stayed with her during grooming, because Macy had a problem with her blood sugar level dropping quickly. Her mom would have to give her Karo syrup when she started getting sick. I think it's very sad that there are breeders out there who care more about money than they do the health of dogs and cats.

Tinkatia: YAY!!! Good job! It's so cute! :)

Just Lin: I love all of my pets dearly, but there is a special bond that grows deeper with certain pets. With Cosette, my heart dog, that bond was strengthened by going through trials together when she battled cancer. She needed me more than any of my pets have ever needed me. When she passed away, it felt like I would never recover from the loss. She was the sunshine of my life, and I still miss her with all my heart.

Good afternoon Owlies!

NowMercy: I live in Rainier WA. A very small town of about 1600. The next town over about 5 miles or so from my house is Yelm and it has about 3000 or so. Tho the name suggests that we are close to Mt. Rainier. It just ain't so. We are about a 2 1/2 hour to 3 hour drive to that beautiful Mountain.

We are actually in a Valley the Nisqually Valley. The town derived it's name from the Rail Road.

History has it that they were bringing the tracks through and it was the first town that they actually saw Mt. Rainier in it's full glory and so named the town Rainier. If they had been coming the other way Yelm, more than likely it would have been named Rainier.

Geez that was boring!

OK gang pray for me I am going to venture out in the car and go to the post office. We have sun and it is melting some of the roads. So I am going to give it a shot, before this afternoon when it will all freeze again!

Love you guys!

Amicus said...

Howdy BonO, Dreama, Jodi! Good day to ya!

Jodi: Thanks for the nice comments and the healthy lunch! :)

I could stay here all day talking about pets. It's my favorite subject! Can you all tell? ;) Sorry for the long posts.

See Tina - I'm not really quiet once I get to yakking about something I love. :)

Just_Lin said...

LynnD Be careful on those roads. I'm so happy to see your leggy owl back again. I just love it!

Sandie said...

Thanks, Amicus, for the info. I've heard before that the tiny little dogs have lots of health problems--it figures that the cats would, too. That's sad.

You're so right about "connecting" with certain animals more than others. I LOVE my dogs but there's a special bond between Luc and I--hard to explain but it's there, like for you and Cosette. And, it's just like you to take in a kitty and find his mom and siblings so you could care for them! You are an animal angel.

When we decided to get a standard poodle I took my kids and they chose Remy--he was adorable, and they loved his color. When I made eye contact with Luc that day, I just melted. But, I let the kids choose and we brought Remy home. As we drove away, Luc was just staring at me and my heart cracked a little. Well, three weeks later we went on vacation and since Remy was a puppy I didn't want to kennel him so the breeder said she would take him. She had three puppies left. When we returned, she had Luc left. Again, I just felt this incredibly strong connection! So, I promptly called my husband and begged him like a child to let me bring him home. He caved. I just feel like Luc was meant to be with us. And, he and Remy adore each other.

Whoa! Sorry about that--too long!

Jodi, thanks for not kicking me out for being "simple-folk!"

Just_Lin said...

Sandie and Amicus Speaking of small cats, I once had a cat named "Small". At least that was her official name. I actually called her "Schmah Schmah", kind of reminiscent of a noise Steve Allen used to make. She was barely alive when I found her as a kitten at about 2 wks of age. She never grew larger than a typical 5 month old cat. She had alot of genetic problems but did manage to live until about 12 yrs before her problems were no longer treatable. She was a very funny little thing.

Jodi said...

LYNN D - Thanks for the geography lesson!!! Never boring. Careful on the roads - I'm sure you'll do fine - it's everyone else that is an IDIOT!!! :P

Have a great Monday everyone!

I really love all of the cat stories. The last kitty that I raised was 3 weeks old. He was with a litter of kittens born on a ranch.I chose one and I called him Tac (cat spelled backwards).Tac also liked watching my fish aquarium but no fish ever dispapeared. Tac liked to hide under the sofa and swat people on the legs when they sat down. I remember a girlfriend visiting me and she didn't know I had gotten Tac.He waited in hiding for her to sit down and then pow, swat. He got her good. He didn't hurt her, just scared her. She screamed and ran off. My friend did eventually calm down and returned to visit me often, however she did keep an eye on Tac at all times after that. Lets just say Tac was mischievous!

Just_Lin said...

Maureen I'm glad you got a kick out of the story. Tater very definitely had an attitude. I don't know what that poor person must have thought! And don't worry about breakfast. I could stand to miss a meal or two.

Time for a quick coffee/noon news break. Since we haven't found Alex yet, here's a gift for Goldie (and an anthem for the Nest):

Simple Gifts

Simple Gifts was written by Shaker Elder Joseph Brackett, Jr. in 1848. It was first published in The Gift to be Simple: Shaker Rituals and Songs. Simple Gifts was a work song sung by the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing (more commonly called the Shakers, an offshoot of the Quakers).

'Tis the gift to be simple,
'tis the gift to be free,
'tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
It will be in the valley of love and delight.

Refrain:

When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan't be ashamed.
To turn, turn will be our delight,
'Til by turning, turning we come round right

'Tis the gift to be loved and that love to return,
'Tis the gift to be taught and a richer gift to learn,
And when we expect of others what we try to live each day,
Then we'll all live together and we'll all learn to say,

Refrain:

'Tis the gift to have friends and a true friend to be,
'Tis the gift to think of others not to only think of "me",
And when we hear what others really think and really feel,
Then we'll all live together with a love that is real.

So, Dreama? If you had a dog, would you name him God? Just wondering ....

I'm loving these kitty stories. I got Checkers when he was about 5 weeks old too - from a cardboard box in the back of a church at my niece's christening. I was like a 4 year old, too, begging my hubby to let me take him home (we already had a dog). I have always had cats (until I got married), but Checkers and I had that special soul-mate connection. He has been through some very rough times with me. Crap! I'm crying again! Anyways, I love that you are cat lovers in here and can understand the connection we have with our little furry babies (ok, stopped crying now).

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. I am still pretty sick, but I went to work for a couple of hours this morning and managed about an hour of packing at my Mom's. I'm going to take a hot bath and lay down now.

Hi everyone..hope you are all having a good afternoon. My mis-guided hubby thought bringing donuts home last night would give me an incentive to eat. I'm afraid he will be eating them all himself as they don't look so good to me.

TINA: Steamed white rice for dinner tonight..

LOVEY: You're Number One!!

JUST_LIN: I loved the story about Tator. My sis rescues ferals, and she has one 'big boy' she named Kool. He doesn't meow, he 'coos' like a dove. It is the cutest thing to hear this little sound come outta this big ol tuxedo cat. I think he is her fave..though she would never admit it.

SACBARB: No flooding where I live. With all the building going on, I am sure some homes are in flood plains though. They released water from the dam for the first time in 3 years, so the washes are all flooded. I bet even Big Bug Wash is running--that's probably where my grasshopper came from! ;)

TINKA: YOU were the Night Owl yesterday! I love your owl avitar, and I missed you too.

IBEBOLD: I hope your owl tat is in a decent place--I wouldn't want to be a Peeping Owl and not know it! ;)

RENEE EVE: Hope the tooth is better. Root canals scare the life outta me.

CGIRL: How are you feeling today?

MEK: Glad to see you waded through the deluge!

GOLDIE: It's nice to be in such good company, as I am 'simple folk' too.

AMICUS: LOVE reading your pet stories--yak away!! ;)

DREAMA: Doing better--just a little afraid of food right now.

JODI: I hope you brought the chocolate milk from the back of the case--the one with the latest EXP. date. It may be a while before I can drink it. Love ya bunches.

BON'O: What a great sentiment! I checked the weather for you, it's 65 degrees here. You have to know--I'd rather have snow.

CPGEM8: Thank you again and again for this corner of love and laughter!

HI and HUGS to LYNN D; EBJ; NOWMERCY; MAUREEN; and SANDIE!!

The crazy guys across the street are fighting again--maybe this isn't nice..but can't wait til they move!

Just_Lin said...

Zona I'm so sorry you are still sick. I hope you're able to drink plenty of fluids. I'm glad you liked the Tater story and hope it made you smile.

Such a special and funny cat and a great story. Thanks, Just_Lin. Starting the week with a smile on the face is always a good thing!! Thank you for that!

I have never been a cat person...we couldn't have cats when i was growing up..my oldest brother has asthma and it is triggered by animal dander. But I have a special cat friend now named Maggie. She is the beautiful white Persian cat of my friend who I stay with when I go to the big city. Maggie is very regal and very pampered and that suits her royalness well. She sleeps in the guest room when I am there and she is very patient with me when I forget she is there and roll over and knock her off the bed. As a non-cat person,it blows me away the she has wormed her way into my heart so much that this year I bought her a Christmas present!!! So to the people that have the relationships with cats that have been described here, I think I get it now!

Zona and CG...I hope today is a better health day and you are both feeling better! CG, I hope the stories here and the compassion here help ease your loss.

Did anyone else watch the Hallmark movie last night called "The Russell Girl"...and is there anyone else out there that sobs over the Hallmark commercials. They are the same ones year after year, and year after year I am blubbering mess!

Zona said...

BARB/WA: **waving** I was getting ready to dive under the desk in case the crazy neighbors started throwing things and I missed you! I am soo sorry! I am sure your owl and mine are related--though mine is on vacation until I feel better. I am soothing myself with Hugh Grant instead. Have a great evening.

J/L: It made me laugh and smile! Thank you.

Zona said...

VIG: Persians are so full of personality--you do realize it is Maggie's bed and you are being 'allowed' to sleep there? LOL!

Just_Lin said...

VIG Thank you. I'm glad it brought you a smile. That is the best way to start a week, isn't it?

Bon'O said...

Happy 27th birthday, Elijah Wood.

One good thing about Bush's final State of the Union speech tonight...it is his FINAL State of the Union speech.!! (ugh, 357 days to go).

CG: your quote "So, Dreama? If you had a dog, would you name him God? " Priceless! Tac & God, what a combo. I smiled reading your sharing a Checkers story.....such a good sign you're healing.

Zona: Thanks for sharing that it's 65 degrees. In Oregon, we call that 'June'. Please continue to get healthy.

VIG: Can't fool me. You've been 'outed' as a true cat-person. And, yes, I often find myself blubbering through sentimental commercials, especially if they involve babies or animals. And if they come up with this year's answer to Mean Joe Green during the Super Bowl, I'll be a goner for sure.

Okay, that was my quick late lunch break. Back to work!

iteach said...

Hello everyone! Anything good on T.V. tonight?

Anonymous said...

Zona...you are right....it is very clear that I am an invited guest into Maggie's room...actually Maggie's house!!!

Bono...well,maybe I am a closeted cat person. Okay, tell me this true cat people...not only do I buy Maggie Christmas presents, now when I call to talk to my friend, I also talk to the cat on the phone. True Cat Person behaviour or just weird?

Zonababy ewww, where did hubby get the idea that donuts would appeal to you with a weakened stomach.Try munching on saltines instead.
Tinkatia are you up from your nap yet? Wake up! (I'm pounding two trash can lids together..bang, bang)
CanadianGirl actually the elderly lady who owned the ranch wanted to name my kitten Tac. It really would have been my last choice for a name to be honest with you, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings. She had a bird named Tweety so I guess she liked simplicity. :)

Dreamatexas - I am awake from my nap. Some noisy neighbour was banging two lids together, I know to wake me up. I can't believe anyone would do that to a dear little retired school teacher who needs her afternoon nap. I know you would never do a thing like that. How are you doing? I am drinking Diet Coke to perk me up since I don't drink coffee. It hasn't kicked in yet. I have to get some work done today. I started rearranging things and now I am in a mess and don't feel like finishing. I loved your pictures. I will message you more about them.

ViG - I got your instructions. I will carry them out as soon as I am able.

I am loving these cat stories. I think I may have been a cat in a previous life.
In 15 minutes the blog is going
down for 10 minutes so I had better post this. Be back later.

Lynn D said...

Posting quick! Made it to the post office and did not hit anything or anyone! be back in a bit.

Just_Lin said...

VIG I hate to break this to you but you are a cat person. You just never knew it before.

Tinkatia said...

Has everybody left the nest? I work five minutes and sit down for ten. I am making great progress. I think the problem is I have all the wood fires going and it's about 95 degrees F in this house and the snow storm that was predicted may never come. It's a lovely temperature for watching T.V. or playing on the computer but a tad warm for working around the house. At least that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. Where did everybody go? Did my new owl chase them all away. I know he looks fierce, like the worst teacher you ever had.

Sandie said...

just_lin, I love your little baby owl! But I have to tell you, when I first saw it I thought it was an owl dressed up in an ape suit. Okay, my eyes aren't what they used to be . . . but doesn't it look like that a little? LOL

Just_Lin said...

Sandie I know! He is kind of weird. I'm not sure that I've settled on him or if I should find another one.

Sandie said...

No, just_lin, you should keep him! He's cute and fluffy.

A big hello to TINKA, ZONA, SANDIE, JUST LIN, LYNN D, CAROL & VIG!!!

I hope everyone is having a good evening!!

IBB - Love your tattoo!! I'm seriously considering getting angel wings (TINA don't laugh) on my shoulder blade with my Mom's initials. I just have to work up the nerve!!! Maybe a little Captain Morgan would help. :D

MEK - I took my nap this afternoon - since you kept me up so late last night!!! LOL!!

ITEACH - Congrats!!! Did it help taking your panties off?!!? :p

DreamaTexas said...

About Tac. His name wasn't my idea. The elderly lady who owned the ranch chose it, so Tac it was.:)

DreamaTexas said...

Zonababy did you have your hubby swap out those donuts for saltine crackers?

Zona said...

DREAMA: He's eating the donuts..I'm having steamed rice..a wonder cure I hear..

Sandie said...

just_lin, ummm, ummmm, not so much. LOL He looks like he has no arms, er, wings.

Glad you had a nice nap, Jodi!

Just_Lin said...

Sandie and Zona Okay, how about this one? He's paying attention, anyway.

DreamaTexas said...

Zonabay that's true. Steamed rice, broth and darn it I can't think of the third one that is very gentle on the stomach. Geez, I buy it for my friend David who has acid reflux problems. It's cream of something or other. LOL

Sandie said...

It was 63 here in GA today, Zona! Funny, when I lived in MD 63 was just cool. Here, I'm freezing my patootie off at 63! I guess my body has adjusted to living in GA, huh?

DreamaTexas said...

Zona I left out your B. Sorry.

Sandie said...

Now he's cute! "More porridge, please sir?" That's what it looks like he's saying.

Just_Lin said...

Sandie He does look like he's saying that! LOL

Zona said...

JUST_LIN: I like him!! He's saying "Yea--so what's the problem?"

SANDIE: It's 65 here and I'M cold too! I do have shorts on and a sleeveless top though. I would change into sweats but don't own any!

DREAMA: Zonabay is in my backyard! Watch out cuz 'cream of something or other' could get you in trouble! ;)

Just_Lin said...

Sandie and Zona Okay, I'll keep the little street urchin for a while. I have to go run a couple of errands. Somebody give my owl some porridge while I'm gone. Thanks.

MEK in AZ said...

Good Evening - EVERYBODY!!!

Lots of new owls in the nest!!

Jodi - go ahead and get that tat..
I just got my first one last year - figured I turned 50 - might as well - it's in honor of my dad and my irish heritage - since i wasn't sure how much it would hurt (I caved to sibling peer pressure) I just got the cross with the shamrock - NOW, I am going to add the flowers that I wanted - :-)

AND - I didn't get my nap - I think Tinka's neighbors were in my neighborhood and decided that NOONE was going to get any rest!!

Lynn D - way to go!!! :-) and, I'm so glad you brought the legs back.......

EBJ - no golfing in San Diego - hubby has a conference, I'm just tagging along - the meetings that I have been attending are getting ready for the match play that will be here at the end of Feb.....

Okay - I gotta go find something for dinner....

later gators!!

iteach said...

Jodi, no panties helped a lot! :)

Dianne/Denver said...

Hello everyone. SacBarb and JustLin, I thought your blogs were great. I started reading the blog just as you did Barb and I think Tina jumped in on me. I am not a person that has pets but I love reading all your stories..my pets are at my kids houses (dogs and cats). Lin, I was thinking about making a tator tot casserole--I don't know why that came to mind.

Sandie: I have to laugh at your comment because every time JustLin's name shows up I think it is an ape picture instead of an owl!! I just didn't want to sound blind so I was keeping quiet.

Zona: I think the donuts might have made me feel better..worth a try anyway.

Jodi said...

Hey MEK - Will you come and hold my hand?!!? I don't know why I'm being such a chicken shit about this. Good God - survived a c-section, and 2 v backs - it can't be that bad!!

ZONA - Got to about 44 today, but windy as hell. Gonna get a lot colder and windier here in the next couple of days - and more snow. I'm sorry, but I've had about enough of winter. Bring on the spring!!!

BON*BON - Looks like I might need your snow angel to shovel again. Wouldn't that just about shock the shit out of the neighbors?!!!? :p :p

Tinkatia said...

Sandie, Just Lin, dreamatexas, zonababy, Jodi, Mek,
I leave the room and you all show up after I am gone. Do you think I should change my perfume? If anyone is cold, just come to my house. I am just about ready to open all the doors. I think I got carried away with the news of an impending storm.

Jodi said...

Hey ITEACH & DIANNE!!!!

So sorry, but my daughter wants to get on the computer. Will check back before calling it a night!!

Dianne/Denver said...

MEK, you would have enjoyed a special they had on TV last night here. The first part was all about the players for the Rockies that are signing big contracts to stay around awhile and the second part was talking with Randy Gradishar and Haven Moses from the 1977 Broncos and showing when they went to the Super Bowl, etc. It was 30 years ago!! I guess it is Gradishar's last time to have a chance to be voted into the Hall of Fame this weekend, so it was kind of sad too. Boy, those players really got older and there hair is thin and here I am still 34---time flies!! Anyway, it was a nice show to watch and good memories to think about after all these years.

Dianne/Denver said...

Iteach: Do you think if I join WW again I will get tossed out taking my panties off for a weigh-in? I always just took off my shoes and jacket--no wonder I never could lose any weight.

Hi Dream and all the new girl owls!!

I need a drink...kids finally go back to school tomorrow after 5 weeks off (and I only took care of them one or two days a week). Today the older one got a comb tangled in other one's hair. My daughter had to cut it out..I sure didn't want to be the one to do that---now where is that wine???

Dianne/Denver said...

Jodi: Who is the boss of that computer? Ok, maybe she will let you back on later :)

Zona said...

JODI: Our weatherman said we had winds of 30mph...I wonder where he really is, cuz there are no winds here!

DIANNE: I think he WAS trying to be nice..but I wonder too if he was counting on me not wanting them! ;)

TINKA: {{HUGS}} See, nothing wrong with your perfume! ;)

MEK: I wonder about the folks living by the stadium. Did you see how they are lighting it up with flashing lights and music just like a huge Christmas display??
My neighbors across the street are fighting again...it must be in the air.

DreamaTexas said...

Too funny Tinkatia.

Tinkatia said...

Dianne - Hi I didn't see you in the room when I was writing.

Sandie - Glad to see you posting today. It's hard to stop isn't it?

Zonababy - Is that your gorgeous husband in the picture? If it is I am certainly coming to visit. My house is hot but KFC is sending her husband over to revive me if the I get heat stroke so I just put another piece of wood on the fire.

Dreamatexas - Yes you are bad. And when did you change your hair style?

Jodi - Afternoon naps are great right? I feel so refreshed.

iteach - Did my telling you what else to take off help in the weigh-in?

Mek - Yes the neighbours with pots and pans were heard across cyberspace. I am thinking of reporting them.

My ten minutes are up. Time to get to work.

Zona said...

TINKA: That's gorgeous Hugh Grant...

Dianne/Denver said...

Hi Tink: I tried to take a nap today but there was too much noise coming from your neck of the woods. Who is that person with those trash can lids? Zona: Great idea..next time my husband is sick, donuts it is for him--my favorite kind!!

AMICUS: Your comment on the Ross blog brought a smile for you and Glenda! :)

Bon'O said...

Good to see the nest has been kept warm & well-protected this afternoon. Howdy to all of you!! Any chocolate chip cookies left, Shirley?
ITeach: Good job, girl! (in my best soup-Nazi voice): "No cookies for YOU!!!"

Jodi~re: Tattos.. Maybe we can get a group-rate. I want either...
*Chinese symbols for my mantra "Passion, Compassion" inside left forearm (so far I've committed it only to engraving on a gold thumb ring. When times get stressful or I need to remind myself of my deepest values, it gets a good massaging and I "chill" back to where I belong.

What to do? what to do?

Hey whab.....what about the "to land on earth in about a month, location unknown, but don't worry, it's 'only' about the size of a bus". Tell me it'll burn up in the atmosphere, and only the random nuts & bolts will land on our house :o)

I'm back here for a little online bill-pay action, so I'll keep my owlie eyes on you all. Have fun!

Sandie said...

Dianne/Denver, I'm glad I'm not the only one with bad eyes! It was a cute little ape-owl though, wasn't it?

Tinka, yes, it's hard to stop. There goes my new years resolution.

Zona said...

BON'O: OUCH...not that that should discourage you in any way. ;)

WHABBEAR: Yeah, where is that bucket of bolts gonna land anyway?

Tinkatia said...

Sandie - I am working so hard on my New Year's resolutions too. I am really trying and have managed to improve a few things. Maybe I aim too high.

Zona - Isn't he one hunk of a man? I loved him in "Notting Hill" By the way why aren't you answering your e-mail? You said you had 3 windows open.

Tinkatia said...

Dianne - I know the tin cans woke me too. I now find out that they think it's music. These young kids today don't know what real music is. Not like us right? We knew the real thing.

dreama - I finally get up and you must have gone out. Where did you go? I bet you are joining the band next store. You kids amaze me.

DreamaTexas said...

I was going through all my O's looking for an owl photo and got worn out so I just quit and chose O-Oprah? I have a pelican and a stork but no owls. I noticed that you have 5 on your Myspace Tinkatia. I might rob you of one. It's not a true robbery because I am acknowledging it, right?

Tinkatia said...

Bon Oregon - Do you know how much damage a few nuts and bolts falling from the sky could cause? Ask Bear, he would tell you. You wouldn't want to be in that house at the time. They had better land in the ocean that's all I can say.

Carol: When you get attacked or otherwise have a negative experience to do with the Owl's Nest (something that will probably happen again, sadly) I want you to know we all have your back.

I kind of view you like I view Ross. Someday down the road you may make a blog decision that I don't agree with (although, I don't think that will happen at all frequently). My reaction will be simple: You are the head of the blog, and you have the right to run it as you see fit.

If the day comes when I disagree vehemently with something you've done (a nearly impossible happenstance, I'm sure), I'll just leave the nest. Quietly.

Why? Because you don't deserve abuse or attack for doing this blog, ever. You deserve other things.

Like respect. Like gratitude. Like consideration.

Tinkatia said...

dreamatexas - I am sure Amicus wouldn't mind if you took one of my owls from my nest. If in doubt ask her but I know her and she is very kind and generous. I picked the one I thought was the cutest.

Thanks for the cookies shirley and please write your blog. I have thought about it too, but haven't done it yet.

Ok, the weather here tomorrow is this- wind chill advisory, wind advisory and winter storm watch, which they say could change to a blizzard warning. So no one gets to complain if its more than 40 degrees there ;) lol- I sooooo am over winter and want to see flowers and sun. Heck, I am even looking forward to having to shaving my legs everyday again because I am wearing shorts!

hope you feel better soon Zona. Renee Eve, sorry about your root canal. I am a total wimp about the dentist and I had one - but lucky it healed quick and no lasting pain.
