I recently got a new haircut and have alternately loved and hated it. It seems the weather has a direct correlation on which it is on any given day. I had wanted a medium to short all one length bob that would look casually messy even right after swimming, something I didn't have to fuss with. It didn't work as, according to the hairdresser, my hair wasn't the right "type". So I got long layers. The layers seem to have activated a mini hair rebellion. Sometimes it swoops back elegantly, others it flips, curls and squiggles and out come the hair instruments of torture.
I have always been conscious of how my hair looks; a bad hair day will ruin a good mood. I have cried over bad cuts and cried harder over bad perms. I'm not sure why this is so important to me. I think that it may be because, although I have little control of other aspects of my looks, I feel that I should be able to control my hair?
My hair obsession is not confined to just my own either. I notice other women's hair, both the good and the…well…not so good. I find my self thinking, "Oh honey, you would look so much better if you _____ your hair". Maybe I'm just a hairdresser wannabe, but I believe it goes deeper than that. Could it be because of the whole "crowning glory" myth?

I loved you blog today! I really am very easy when it comes to my hair. What does drive me crazy is the grey, which I cover up by going to a salon ever 4 weeks. I do spend lots of money, however I do not have many financial obligations, so I can splurge on the hair...High lites and Low lites are also done...
I allow Alex to cut it as he pleases, in whatever style he wants. I do have him thin it out as I have very thick hair (goldie does this mean you are going to smack me upside the head?)
I always feel my hair grows quickly so if I don't like the style I am not stuck with it for very long...
And Yes, I did have that High Jersey Hair in my youth. It just had to be done, as I was a "Jersey

I recently met a woman named Sondae, which she pronounces "Sunday" and I kept saying her name wrong--saying the "son" part like "ron" instead of like sun. She kept correcting me. I recently had to call her and while the phone was ringing I was so busy reminding myself to call her Sunday that when she answered I said, "Hi Sunday, this is Sanday." I was soooo embarrassed. I know she thinks I'm really weird.

Scirish~ Hair, that is a touchie subject. My Hubby is pretty bald and I have thinning hair. The problem isn't with us, but with others. I used to get so mad when some one would rub MrMary's shinny head or say" oh I need sunglasses". Most of them were jerks. They had faults of their own (big guts,bad teeth etc.). He is 6ft tall and I am 5ft nothing. I would say" oh is he bald? I'm so short I never noticed!" Once I said "he may not have hair, but he does have feelings" they would slither away. I hate to say this, but after one of these comments, I slapped the guys big belly and said' "better bald than fat!" Mr Mary just cringes when I do that, so I just look at them now, shake my head and say nothing, seems to have the same effect lol!
I will go back and read the comments now.

I must say, you Owls are all AMAZING!!! LMAO at your hair stories. I have a hate/hate relationship with my hair. I've been blonde, brunette and redheaded. I had temporary insanity once and got my hair permed. I don't like my hair right now. I'm not sure what the problem is. The cut just isn't quite right. I think she over-texturized it. And I like it that my hair is darker but I don't care for this color of "dark". I LOVE my hair products. My current hairdresser is relatively new to me. My former one, a guy, tried to commit suicide and is still "recovering" emotionally. There seem to be several stories here today about hairdressers with emotional problems. What's with that?
SACBARB: That is the same thing my husband guessed. He was not thrilled that I watched it on the "big" TV tonight. I usually tape it and watch it in bed but I wanted to be current for the finale. He ended up watching the whole thing with me. As I said the other day, these Colorado mountain men...whew!!
Well Dianne, I'm glad to see I was wrong. They look happy, but I'm still doubting.
Sandie~ I finished the book~ That is the most irreverent book I have ever read in my life! It was so good....so creative....and yes, at some places...so wrong! But it makes you think! At church yesterday, when they said which Gospel they were going to read from, I thought...okay...I remember which one he is....then it hit me....the book isn't real! But it brings the people to life....makes them seem real. And even though I knew how the book would end, it still made me sad~ Now I want to read his other books~ Thank you for the suggestion~
