~ Jesus vs Santa ~

by Tina~in_ut

We were driving to the kids' games on Saturday and we were listening to NPR. (not my choice!) I usually tune it out when hubby has it on, but I heard the guy say Nipomo and I perked up and started listening. It's located near Santa Maria, CA, and my cousin lives there with his family. What the news guy was saying was so unbelievable. It couldn't be true. I googled it when I got home and found this video. I had to make sure my cousin wasn't involved.

For those of you who cannot watch, here's the article: Jesus vs Santa

I couldn't decide whether to laugh or be appalled. On the one hand, I can see the man's point. On the other hand, it's just so wrong. What do you think?

TINA: I'm sorry but I can't get past the image of Jesus holding a gun..that's just so wrong on so many levels. Regardless of this guy's explanation..what part of Prince of Peace does he not understand? I know..I'm missing the metaphor..but it's just such a disturbing picture.

I'm having a hard time seperating logic..which tells me yes, he does have freedom of speech..from emotion..which is telling me something altogether different.

Thought provoking blog today TINA..thank you!

Morning Glories!

Zona got first and she is so beautiful!

Well that is quite the pot stirrer isn't it? I kind of get where the guy is coming from but....come on this is on display for little kids.

In a way tho it is no different than the people who claim there is a war on Christmas and want anything to do with Santa or other religions ignored and want everything done their way.

Crazy comes in all shapes and sizes. I do wish people would take some time to see beyond their lens and remeber that this country is made of many different people, many different religions and have some common courtsey and sense when they exercise their freedom of expression. I personally don't see the free speech in this.

That free speech argument is getting old on both sides as it applies to free to speak out against you Government and you are protected. Not about inciting hatred and misinformation and displays that really are in poor taste.

Hmmm wonder how a display of Jesus holding a shot gun to all of our elected officials would go over????

Ok I could go on and on but need to get ready to do the last day of Christmas baskets at the food bank.

Zona: Congrats on first!

Tina: Great blog. Very interesting. It is thought provoking. I believe in freedom of expression.

Back from LA, what a great time we had. :) We had front row seats to Jay Leno!! It was incredible.

Hi everyone.....

I don't think anything depicting violence is excusable....that man is obviously a dullard.

Bad news.... I was supposed to be leaving today for my visit with Paul but a friend is sick and he and his wife are disabled and depend on me at times like this....my friend has been a mess for months and wouldn't go to the doctor and when he finally agreed to go to the ER they found him very anemic. His blood count was 7...he had lost a little over half his blood. We each have 1.3 gallons of blood and he was about 5.5 qts low....unreal.....now they have to find the source of the bleeding.

I am a little disappointed about the trip but theres no way I could let them deal with this without me. His wife can't even get to his room without a wheelchair....well...long story short....they need me the most.
Paul said he would have been surprised if I had left town under the circumstances.....

I gave him a rain check and I will make it up to him....

The Doc isn't doing the upper GI till tomorrow so needless to say...Christmas is a mess....but we shall persevere....

In case I don't have time to comment again beforehand....Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Tina: This one's difficult! I think at a personal level, I wouldn't do something like that, just because I'd be sensitive to the fact that it offends people. But should it rise to the point where society has the right to go onto his property and remove it? I don't think so.

Makes me wonder, though. What would Jesus really think of "Santa Claus"? Would he consider him a hated symbol of Christmas commercialism? Or, a welcome addition to the pantheon of mythological figures who are capable of supernatural acts? Or, a force for good because he brings happiness and anticipation to countless children across the world? Or, none of the above?

Dee Dee: Very sorry to hear that! Hugs!

Good Morning Hooters!!

Zonabaaaaaaaaaaaaaby got 1st!!yeah

Ok, I am appalled by this. Probably not for the same reason as some. I am appalled that knowing children who do believe will see it.

I don't care what your religious or non-religious beliefs are-respect others and their traditions. I say Merry Christmas, and I am not the least bit offeneded if someone celebrating Kwanza, or any other religious belief shares it with me. I admire the decorations and traditions they have.

If your believe is that the holiday is too commercial- don't participate! Don't buy presents, don't put up a tree, don't decorate your house. But do not tread on other peoples (especially childrens)beliefs and FUN!!

Freedom of speech is just a powerful as the freedom of SILENCE. You know- the one where you don't offend others with your 'right' just because you can.

Now, on that note- Merry Christmas to you all, if you chose to accept that-wonderful. If you don't believe, I am fine with that too.

The point is that I am sending you all greetings that you can accept on your terms, however you wish. I prefer not to cram it down your throat with a armed Jesus and a dead Santa.

did I mention the kids left yesterday afternoon instead of this morning due to the impending ice/snow storm?
Mr. and Mrs. Goldie slept until 11:00 am!!! I don't think I have slept that late since I was a teenager!!

TINA; Interesting blog and picture. I don't agree with it all. I think GOLDIE pretty much says it and to add to her words...I wouldn't/don't like it for me. I know that I also preach freedom of speech but I just don't know why people have to do things like that to express it. We all have different views on different things but I don't think it needs to be carried to that extreme. I also will celebrate any holiday a person wants to but I want it to be about peace and caring for others. Maybe I am just in a bubble but it's my bubble and I am practicing "freedom of speech".

Ok on to Christmas. I bought a DS game in November online for my granddaughters that they really want and I can't find where I put it. It is making me crazy and I have looked everywhere and then Louis looked everywhere. They have discontinued the game so I can't even find one. I started calling around to theGame Stop stores today and found one kind of on the other side of town and they have one. Of course it is snowing and ugly out...but....we are taking my brother and wife to lunch today for his 60th bday and they are going to stop and pick it up for me ..Yea!!! My brother told me it wasn't on his way but then called back and my SIL said they will go that way. See...the spirit of Christmas!! Wonder what I will do with the other one if I EVER find it?

Will be back later this afternoon. Hope everyone gets there last minute things done today. Thanks for the snow TINA>

Happy Wednesday Owls. I have been a very busy hooter today, getting stew in the crock pot, wrapping the last few gifts and waiting for Todd and Vicki. They arrived about noon and now Vicki went to visit a friend and Todd is taking a nap. They left San Diego at 4am and he was tired from driving.

Tina, I have relatives in Nipomo too, but thankfully none of them were in the video. I'm with Zona about Jesus holding the gun. I agree about Christmas becoming too commercial, but this protest may be just a little over the top. BTW, I can't believe Nipomo made NPR news.

Zona, Congrats on #1 & 2. That's all I read while I was typing my comment.

I will be back later to read the rest of the comments.

Evening Owls!

I am sitting here trying to convince myself that I am not getting sick. It just can't happen I don't have time.

I want to apologize to every owl that sent me a lovely Christmas card. I have not got mine out. As a matter of fact I ran out of cards after I made them out for the volunteers at the food bank and have not had a chance to go pick up more.

So Kids you will get your card after Christmas. Just know that I am tickled every time I open the mail box. It is like getting a visit from you and brightens my day to no end. Bless you all.

Need to catch up on my farms then I am going to bed. I AM NOT GETTING SICK!

TINA...that is disgusting. That should not be protected as art or freedom of speech. I think that what makes it worse is that it is not in a "gallery" it is out there to scare children. Sick world.

When someone wishes me a Merry Christmas I usually just respond in kind, even though I don't celebrate Christmas. But I do admit that after a while I do get somewhat offended that it is assumed that I celebrate it and I will say that I don't celebrate that but thank them for the well wishes.

LYNN...I hope you are not getting sick and good night's sleep finds you waking up well.

DEE DEE...That is the spirit of the holidays...to put someone else's well being before your own needs.

I can def see his point, Christmas did begin with Jesus, however I am applauded by the gun and what he has done to Santa. First off Jesus would never hold a gun, and Santa would fight off anyone to make sure his toys are delivered on time.. Freedom of speech is one thing, but this is a spectacle of horror.. All he has to do is go to any church during the holidays and see that Jesus is celebrated.

Shame on him. If I was his neighbor I would be fuming mad.

Santa bring ppl joy especially Children, what is so wrong with that. In today's day and age, we need to have some special fantasy fun, and if that means Santa, then so be it..

I totally embrace the jolly ole fellow.. and he is awfully cute to!

I have a headache, so I am taking some aspirin and hitting the hay..

I have very long day tomorrow, so I certainly need my beauty sleep, cause I want to be prettier than Tina and Lynn.. lol

I did not read the comments.. sorry, so I can't comment on the comments. I will try to catch up tomorrow in between frying the fish..

Nite everyone..

Tina, I know it's late, but I have not had a chance to get online today.
About the idiot in the vid, let's just say I am glad he is not my neighbor or I would be tempted to aim that gun in his direction! nuff said!

I know we are all busy with all the hustle & bustle of the Holiday. I had to take a moment and wish all of my sweet Owls a Merry Christmas! For all the none believers I say "Bah Humbug!" lol Just kidding. I hope you ALL have a great week end! :)

Sorry I wasn't able to stop by earlier. I am spending time with my visiting family and I'm still not done with my wrapping, either! You'd think I'd have this all down to a science by now.

Tina I agree with others that freedom of speech is one thing but that does not excuse being obscene. The man who put up that display obviously has no idea what Jesus or Christianity stand for. He is defiling the Christian faith, IMHO.

DeeDee You are a very loving and kind friend to put off your plans in order to give them a hand. I hope things go well for them and that you and your hot young man will be able to get together soon.

Dianne/Denver said...

BEBBI: It is Imagine: Wedding Designer. I was able to get the one that one store had today. I wonder what I will do with the other one if I ever find it?

DEEDEE; I'm sorry your plans changed but it just shows what a great friend you are and your friend is very lucky to have you in their life.

TINA: DAMMIT....it's still snowing and the roads were really slippery tonight. Enough already...I told you to send it to JODI AND MARY as they haven't had as much as we have this winter yet. Oh yea..and it's cold too!

We went close by to a Mexican place for dinner and it was really crowded..more than I have seen in the years we have lived around here. It's funny because on a restaurant show on the radio tonight they said the restaurant owners say that there biggest business is when the weather is really bad. I wonder why?

Time to hit the hay as I have things to do tomorrow too but at least at home. We are spending the night tomorrow night at my daughters and then going to my sons on Christmas day.

Night owls....

LYNND ; DO NOT GET SICK...DO YOU HEAR ME?

LYNN: Drink tea..eat oranges..sip chicken soup..gulp Emergen-C..stay warm..please take care..I sure hope that you don't get sick!! {{hugs}}
