What happen to Respect?

I have written about my family many times. We are a very close group and we not only love each other, but generally speaking we also like each other. A lot of people remark about what a special bond we all share. How we are there for each other and we can also sit around a table and laugh for hours. None of us take our selves too seriously and we all share a bit of self deprecation. I truly love each and every one of them.

In reading CAROL'S blog I find myself thinking of one of my little cousins. She is 10 going on 40. She can be so loving and sweet and MANIPULATIVE! She is the only girl with three brothers and is totally DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL. She is spoiled rotten. I have gotten to the point that when she is sweet, I don't trust it. I think it is for a reason and wonder what she expects. There are stories I could tell about her for days!

Whatever she wants, she gets. If not from Daddy, then from her grandmother or her aunts. No one ever seems to say no to her. And it is not just in things, but in her actions and behaviors. When she was little, she never expressed an interest in dolls. Every doll she ever got she destroyed. Along with all the fancy clothes and shoes she wanted...and got. This year, she decided she wanted an American Girl doll. Guess what...she got it. That sucker cost almost $200. She was given it on Sunday at our Hanukkah party. At about 9:30 her parents told her that they had to go home. Her little brother still had homework and needed a bath and to get to bed. Her response was that she wanted to make matzo balls!! At 9:30! Her parents said no and so did her grandmother. That little brat marched herself in the kitchen and took out the ingredients and utensils and began cooking! Even after she was told NO. And the sicker part was that she was not reprimanded in way, shape or form. I was so mad. I had to leave before I said something that was not my business to say.

I fumed all the way home...and am still fuming! My first thought was that at the moment she walked into the kitchen that $200 doll would have been scooped up and locked in a closet until she can learn to listen and RESPECT her elders.

I don't remember how I was taught, but I just knew that if my parents said no, it meant no. I also knew that if I got something I took care of it. I also knew that I was "entitled" to nothing. I knew that whatever I did get was something my parents worked hard to get me. They did it because they believed in it...not just because I wanted it. Maybe it was just a different era. I don't know.

Am I crazy? Am I making a big deal of nothing?

Hehehehehehe 3 days in a row!

Morning Glories!

Mo you are not making a big deal out of it. Her parents and grandparents are doing her a disservice. She will grow up in life expecting others to cater to her every whim. It might work for awhile but eventually the harsh reality of NO will hit her.

Very sad really. If we don't learn to do without once in awhile we never learn to respect what we have and what is given.

Hey Tina are you still giving Mr. T his birthday present??? I figure that is why I got FIRST 3 days in a row!

PS Good Luck on the interview. Tho I don't think you will need it as you are good at your job!

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Ok Maureen, your first question..."Am I crazy?"...well yes...DUH!!!!

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Morning Lynn D and congrats on 1st again! Do you really think Tina and her Mr. could go three days straight? Isn't that kind of impossible?

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

This little girl is in for big trouble in her life, and her parents and grandparents won't always be there to make sure she gets what she wants.

My mum was/is like that with my younger sister. Never said no to her. Now she expects everything to be her way and if it isn't...look out!!

Is it possible the parents see what's happening but just don't know how to stop it after 10 years?

Good Morning No Newz!

Lois Lane said...

Mo, yes, you are crazy...but not about this. LOL! I'd be annoyed too. I think every family has that one kid you just want to smack the snot out of, but since that's not appropriate or legal, we sit back and watch as they emplode. Hopefully she and her "fans" will wise up before something bad happens. One day it's matzoballs, the next a meth lab in daddy's basement. (kidding)

Waving a frozen wing to Lynn (HO), Mo, Shirley and all who fly in later.

Congrats on 1st Lynnd
Did you see that Tina? :)

I went to bed @ 10 last night and missed a lot of Birthday greetings on FB & a call from my sister at midnight. She is my youngest sister and always wants to beat the other siblings. We always call each other on our Birthdays.
I have been getting up early every day for the contractors. I have had a sinus cold. I finally crashed last night! I even missed my hair appt yesterday. I have never done that! My sweet hair dresser rescheduled me for today at noon.
Right now my back splash tiles are being put on. I tried to by American made, but I guess we don't make the stone tiles here. These are from Turkey. I can't wait to see them up!
bbl. I am heading to FB and then to my hair appt. Have a great day all!!!
Thanks Shirley :)

Lynn- this is getting to be a habit. Congrats!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY!!!

MO- oh heck no, that child needs some serious tough love. No has to mean no and the real crux of the matter is that it is not her fault. It is the adults who let her have her way.

I think they are doing a real deservice to that child.

Like you, no meant no in my family. My children had such respect for their grandfather that all he had to do was give them "the look" and they shaped up on the spot!

Speaking as the Grandmother of 2 perfect angels (cough, cough) there have been a few time-outs this week already. I am as guilty as sin of spoiling them rotten, but disrespect is NOT tolerated.

Good luck with the job tina~.

I checked the Grandma Handbook this morning Shirley- it says that I can feed them donuts if I give them milk and fruit and yogurt too. I did have to nix the Christmas candy though. ;(

Mo..

I agree with everyone else, you are def crazy! :O)

I actually feel sorry for this little girl. Her elders are allowing her to do as she pleases, children need direction and need to follow rules, it is how one learns. And the sad part is it is not her fault, it is the adults around her that are at fault. One day she is going to say something to the wrong person and Oy Vey!

I would have been just as frustrated as you, that incident would have boggled my mind.. I just can't deal with unruly children and parents that don't tend to them.. Like Tina and her Fam!

Mo, I can tell you from first hand experience that the little princess will grow to be a monster. My own little princess has been thrown out of 5 homes (so far) and has just left to go to school in Florida with $7.00 to her name. We're all fed up with her and don't feel the least bit guilty because of the Hell she turned our lives into.

I'm sorry you're having to witness this. She wants to burn bridges, you have to let her. It's up to her to find her way back. Not your responsibility. Avoid her from her on out. Sad, but the only way you'll be able to maintain your sanity.

Good morning to all... Sorry I've been MIA recently. A good thing maybe, as I've lots of work.

OMG, I just listened to my voice messages as I forgot to turn my sound on after the dentist today and can I just say "for the record" ...TINA YOUR SINGING IS NOT A SONGBIRD UNLESS IT COULD BE THAT CROW LL WAS TALKING ABOUT THE OTHER DAY!!!!!

I'm out the door for a dr appt so haven't read the blog yet but congrats on first again LYNN...yea, three times in a row!! The title sounds very interesting so I will be back this afternoon.

Congrats on the triple First and the trifecta this morning LYNN! :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY! I hope your day is everything you want it to be! Will there be a cute electrician jumping out of your cake? ;)

MO: I agree with you 100%! My mom would have gently but firmly taken my arm and pulled me out of the kitchen if I would have tried a stunt like that...come to think of it I wouldn't have DARED..I knew better..my folks wouldn't have put up with that shit. I don't remember how I learned to respect my elders..it just seems I always did.

My nephew acted a lot like your cousin until the age of 5. I remember after one tantrum..which included him hitting his mom in the face..his father stood up and said to his wife.."OK..we've tried it your way for five years..now it's my turn." There was no spanking..just no more tolerence for nonsense. I'm happy to say that little boy grew up to be an outstanding young man.

I hope that your cousin's parents come to their senses soon and see just how their daughter is acting..because as she gets older it's only going to get worse..and there will be no way to fix it then.

Great blog today MO..thank you!

Happy Wednesday Owls.

HEY TINA, LYNN GOT FIRST AGAIN TODAY!!! (She must be busy giving Mr. T his birthday present)

Mo, I agree with all the other comments about your cousin. It's a shame that the parents can't or don't see what they are doing to her. Children need and really even want limits and they will keep pushing until someone tells them where the line is. And like others have said, she is going to have a rude awakening when she reaches adulthood and pulls that crap.

LOL @ Carol saying 'Hi' to all the ho's.

Waving a tired wing to all the Owls. I'm trying to clean up the mess I made wrapping (no Zona, no boombox involved). BBL

Hi....and Happy Birthday Mary.....

ya know that limerick about the man from Nantucket?? Well I was just reading filthy limericks and this one just JUMPED OUT at me....thought I would share it in honor of Marys birthday......

"nymphomaniacal jill
tried a dynamite stick for a thrill
they found her vagina
in north carolina
and bits of her tits in brazil."

on another note......it is so much easier to just let kids run amuck than to discipline them.....I have a great niece whose Mom..my niece as well....had to scold her and send her to her room (Alivia is 2)...you could hear her telling herself not to cry...she can't quite say Alivia so she says "Eva"....really cute....and her Mom heard her say "don't cry Eva...don't cry"........well you just want to scoop them up and apologize!! But you can't....the payoff comes when people remark on how well behaved and polite your children are...AND THEY REALLY ARE!!!
The first time I saw my son open a door for a lady he wasn't big enough.....but it was so cute....and he always stood when a lady entered the room....helped with her chair....always sir and mam...always please and thank you...and if he ever questioned what he was going to do all he had to do was look at my face....lol..

but everyone here today is so right....if you let them act like apes then that what you can expect to deal with in a public setting...and they have to learn that its better to give than receive....

My Mother always said that God sent me an angel to raise....and that it was a good thing after the nipple boiling incident......

**HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARY!!!**

LynnD Good job! Congrats on 3 in a row!

MO I agree with the other Owls. The parents have created a little person that no one wants to be around. They have failed at being parents by refusing to take on the responsibilities that go along with it. They've let their child be in charge, not only in their own home, but they've allowed her to disrespect someone else's home.

Just_Lin said...

DeeDee LOL @ your limerick!

whabbear said...

'weenie: I don't think you're overreacting at all. The million dollar question here is: Is your little cousin's grandmother a serial killer? If so, then look out! LOL!

whabbear said...

Zona: When he has to fix electrical problems around his house, I hear Tiger Woods acts just like Mr Z!

whabbear said...

Dee Dee: With that limerick, you're tempting me very strongly to post "Santa Claus is coming..." in the nest! I just need a little encouragement...

Lois Lane said...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY!!

Seriously, Carol, I was just thinking about writing about the damn crow. Maybe I'll squeeze 10 pounds of shit into a five pound blog and put it all in, who knows.

Today sucked too! Pipe in the kitchen burst this morning. Even my trusty hairdryer couldn’t save it this time. Plumber (who must have payment as time of service) just got here…he is not hot and he brought his crack, joy!

Bottom’s up, buttercups!

DeeDee said...

Oh Whabbear took a little lyrical license with "SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN"....gave the old song a lift....AND made it age appropriate for adults!!

He shared it with me...because I am a pianist...a wha? A PIANIST!! And I have been singing ever since!

I say lets start a yearly tradition of "Whabbears Beloved Christmas Tunes"...........ana 1 ana 2...lets alla get downa ana get funkya....

Post it Whabbear.....I think its called "Santa Claus is coming...just not to town"....

whabbear said...

All right, only because I've been emboldened and infused with the necessary courage by the irrepressible DeeDee, here's my version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town".

DISCLAIMER: THE REMAINDER OF THIS POST CONTAINS MATERIAL OF AN ADULT NATURE THAT MAY OFFEND APPROXIMATELY 95% OF THE POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA. READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION (PLEASE)!!!

OK, now that we have the requisite legal language out of the way, sing it with me, won't you?

You better not choke
You better not cry
You better not gag
I'm telling you why
Santa wants to cum in your mouth

He's taking his dick
He’s stroking it twice
Gonna find out if you’re naughty or nice, cause
Santa’s going to cum in your mouth

He knows just when you swallow
He knows when its a fake
He knows when you've been bad or good
So be good for Santa’s sake!

Whoa!

He didn’t abort
He didn’t get shy
He didn’t pull out
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus just came in your mouth!

Thank you all for your comments on my blog. I get so frustrated with her sometimes. She can be so sweet, she is so bright and them BAM she is a terror! She can lie to your face without remorse. I do have to say that when I am with her I don't take her shit.

When she takes out toys I MAKE her put them back. She will drop a wrapper on the floor and walk away and I bring her back and make her pick it up and put it in the trash. When she acts up, I tell her I am not taking her crap and we end our adventure we are on. I think she really does want limits because even though I can be stern with her, she loves to spend time with me.

Last Spring, she was in her cousin's wedding, which was in a park. She wanted to wear flip flops and her cousin said no. Her Grandmother bought her the dress and EXPENSIVE sandals to wear. The evening before the wedding, the sandals disappeared. She friggin hid them so the next morning when it was time to get dressed and had no shoes, guess what...she got to wear her flip flops as she had no other shoes that would match. A month after the wedding the shoes reappeared!

As CAROL said, I worry that she will pull her crap on the wrong person and they will beat the shit out of her. I hope I am wrong and she will out grow it.

Thanks again!!
