One Final Gift

by Jodi

Today I had coffee with my brother.  He and his wife have moved into my Dad’s house until their new house is finished.  The house was built in 1949, so the electrical had to be updated and brought up to code.  We also had the entire interior repainted and new flooring installed.  The house looks amazing and is ready to go on the market next week.

One thing that we had not talked about yet was Dad’s headstone.  About 2 weeks before my Mom died I went with my parents to my Great Aunt Marion’s funeral.  As we were driving through the cemetery my Mom pointed and said “see Don?  That’s the one that I want.”  What she was pointing to was a beautiful heart shaped double headstone.  It truly blew me away.  So when she passed I reminded my Dad of her comment.  He kind of followed her wish.  She got her heart shaped stone, but it was a single.  I think in his mind he thought I’m relatively young and don’t know what the future will bring (as far as companionship).

Eric and I have decided to honor Mom’s last wish.  I like to think of it as one last gift.  A beautiful heart shaped double stone.  We’re having a picture of them dancing etched into the front of the stone with both their names, the day of their anniversary, and the words “Dancing again” across the top.

Good Morning!

JODI: What a beautiful way to honor your parents and the love they shared! It's absolutely perfect! :)

SHIRLEY: You're looking lovely this morning..but I think I'm going to have to bring a nice cushy mat to put under your branch..ijs.. ;D

ITEACH: I would have loved to have you for a teacher! I can't remember any of my teachers in my early years having themes for the classroom. It would have made school a lot more fun and interesting!

HI LYNN! Any plans on getting your feets to the beach again soon?

One Diet Coke down..one eye open..I better get my postally challenged rear in gear or everything I have to mail is going to be late!

I hope everyone has a good day!

I've always thought that I just want to be cremated and have my ashes spread out over the ocean.

I didn't wake up until after 11 today. I really have to stop farming and organizing museum gardens until 3 in the morning. Even real farmers aren't in their fields at 3 a.m., are they? Well, maybe milking the cows.

Jodi, what a beautiful thing to do for your parents. Count me in with the teary-eyed. I echo Lynn's comment about your parents raising caring and loving children. (((HUGS))) ♥

Shirley, Nice to see your smiling face in first again today.

Zona, Don't forget BB tonight.

J/L, If there are real farmers up at 3am they are probably up again, not still!

Lynn, I hope you are having a good day with just you.

Iteach, Loved your classroom blog. I went to Catholic school and we never had a theme in our classroom. In addition to the knowledge you are sharing with the class, you are creating good memories of their early education.

Michael, your avatar is....creepy.

Goldie, I see you have your summer wardrobe on.

MICHAEL - I'm sure you have so much more....;)

Michael One thing you will never be is out of words.

SacBarb Thanks for the BB reminder even if it wasn't for me. LOL Did you watch Bachelor Pad the other night? I've never watched it before now and, OMG, what a train wreck!

Hi Everyone....

JODI: Thanks for sharing about your parents. I think the heart stone is a wonderful idea and they will be looking down so happy.

J/L: I watch Bachelor Pad and love it. My grandkids wanted to watch it but I told my daughter it is rated with a big RRR. It was a fun show the other night seeing some of those people back and I will be interested to see how Ames does in there.

SHIRLEY: Congrats on first. I am getting a little tired of cleaning up your messes...as ZONA seems to think it is my permanent job around here. What's new in your part of the world?

SACBARB: Well, tomorrow you go for the tattoo to be "fixed" . Are you scared? You need to post a picture of your eyes for all of us to see.

ZONA: I heard tell you got your mailings all out today....good job!!!

ITEACH: I loved your classroom decor yesterday. I don't ever remember themes in my classes either but it was a few million years ago!!!

Hi MICHAEL: You are quiet on the home front today. What are you busy doing?

LYNN: I see where you were planning on a ":me" day and it didn't quite turn out that way. Did you get to that movie? It looks really good.

GOLDIE: How are those grandbabies doing? My oldest is getting ready to turn 13 in October and all of a sudden she is looking like a teenager. She sent me a picture in her swimsuit and ....holy cow....she looked grown up....sniff sniff.

Well, I am off to Del Taco because today is customer appreciation day and tacos are .29 so I am treating to dinner. Limit is 12. Not my favorite place but beats cooking and I can afford it.

Hope everyone has a good night....

Yes!!! I just found out I have a student in my classroom this year name Cinderella! Now how can I say that with a straight face.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne 29 cent tacos. Now that's a deal! I've never been to Del Taco but there's one not far from my mother's house so maybe we check it out the next time I'm down there, which will be pretty soon.

Just_Lin said...

iteach I hope you don't have a Goldilocks, too.

J/L & Dianne, I did watch Bachelor Pad and yes, it's a train wreck, but I liked watching it. Jake is such an idiot giving the rose to Vienna. And I didn't believe his apology to her for a minute. I thought he was just doing that to look good for the viewers. And even if the apology wasn't sincere, Vienna should have at least thanked Jake for saving her. She is an ungrateful BISH! I have never liked her.
