Car's

Car's

by scirish

I have always been enamored with cars. As a little kid I was sure that all the big trucks were mine…they all had my initials on the front.

My first boyfriend's father was a mechanic and the boyfriend had a fledgling body shop. I learned how to tape the pieces that should not get painted and to enjoy the end result.

I moved on in life, got married and we had to share a car. I never liked it. I finally got the "extra" car and felt resentful, but it was better than a bus. Then I bought my first car on my own. Oh…what a feeling…My name, my insurance (oy)… But it was all mine! I had freedom. I learned to take care of it on my own and to listen to it. When the sound of it changed, I wanted to know why. Where was the new clink, rattle or roll coming from? I learned because it was mine and had a direct affect on how independent I could be.

It's odd, but I do think the car you own can tell a lot about what you are thinking about your life. For instance, I have had a sporty car, an expensive sporty car, an Omg, no one has this yet car, a crappy, how does this even run car, and a run over everything in its path car. None of which are in any particular order.

What do you think? Do you like cars? Do you have a favorite? Do you have memories concerning cars? (uh oh)

Morning Glories!

Iteach got first! Wahoo!

Scrishy: Great blog!

I was thinking about my first car the other day. Turtle will love this it was a 69 Dodge Dart.

It was metallic gold with a white vinyl top. I paid 250.00 for it and was in heaven. The white vinyl seats in the back were coming apart but I did not care! It was mine.

I remember the first boy I showed it off to and I was revvvving the engine and it was rumbling away. This boy was so nice not to tell me it needed a new muffler! LMAO

That car got my friends and I around for a couple of years we could shove 6 or 7 people in it and away we would go. Unfortunately no one had taught me how to take care of it and I let it run out of oil! It died in the driveway.

I like cars and would love to have a convertible someday. Tho looking at the snow this morning I wonder why?

For the most part I just look at most cars as a source of transportation now. If it gets me from point A to point B I am happy!

Our car right now is older and we are thinking about replacing it, but I hold off because it is paid for and even with it's dings and dents it runs fine, and I really dread having a car payment. It is paid for and that feels luxurious to me.

Iteach: You would have to tranquilize me and and tie me up to get me back into a Chuckie Cheese! We would go many years ago when the kids were little and I vowed "As God is my Witness I will never Darken that door again!!!" ROFLMAO

I hope everyone is having a restful Sunday. I am still getting Mr. Lynn D ready for this afternoon when he leaves on his next trip.

Good morning!

I'm so happy because I don't have to work today! yipee!

Iteach, congrats on being first!

Great blog today Scirish!

My first car was a 1969 Camaro. It was a total hot rod! Jacked up, big fat tires with mag wheels.

Now I drive a Ford Expedition. My huz drives a Toyota truck.

We have a little red Corvette, it mostly sits in the garage, but is fun to take out for a spin now and then.

My favorite car had to be my 95 Bronco. It was a gas pig (just like my Expedition) but it sat up high and could see everything ahead of you. I think it was the safest car I've had.

Barb in Az/soon to be Wa: Hope you have a safe flight home. Glad you got to meet our MEK and spend time together. Wish you could come to the BABB in August.

It was sunny here yesterday, but very windy and chilly. Supposed to be a little more calm today.

Our house was built in 2003, and the previous owners planted a mini vineyard. There are grapes in the front, and along the side of the house.

They also planted roses by the grapes, and I was told that the roses indicate whether there are "bugs", if the roses grow then the grapes will grow.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but we have some gorgeous roses out there, different colors, so today I will go cut some and try to make a beautiful bouquet.

Hope everyone has a nice day! I will check back in a while!

Oops hi to Lynn D, MEK, Tink and of course Carol.

I forgot to mention that I loved the blog yesterday, it was so heartfelt. You have an incredible way with words, Carol.

goldie said...

Good morning iteach, tink, lynn,MEK, congrats on 1st iteach.

I swear that lynn d writes my comments. We think exactly the same. Ditto on the Chuckie Cheese. Ditto on a car for transportation and ditto on NOT having a car payment!

My 1st car was a $300.00 1967 Chevy Impala when I was 16yrs old. I bought it a week before I turned 16 and got my license. I tooled around with my friends for a year in that car. What a beast it was! I moved on to a Vega hatchback which was only a year old. I thought I was pretty hot shit in that 'new' car. Cherry red too.

I have had used cars and brand new cars. Currently I drive a 1996 chevy cavalier I bought used about 8 years ago. I intend to drive it until it drops. The problem is the damn thing won't drop!! LOL
I generally use it to get to work and back and some errands, but for the most part if we go anywhere we use my husband's SUV. I HATE to have a car payment and while I take care of my car and it has no dents in it, I don't like feeling like I have to spend evey waking moment going to the car wash or vacuuming it out. I always do when we have a new vehicle.

Havea good day Hooters. I'm saying a little prayer that Barb makes it home safe and I'm so glad that you had such a good time MEK.

p.s. I have decided that the tassles are staying. Too painful to remove the superglue :)

Good Morning Mek - So happy you and Barb had a great time. Now go and get some sleep.

Good Morning East Bay J - I loved reading about your cars. I can't believe you have roses already. I have to check again to see where you live. We have daffodils, tulips and hydrangeas everywhere but even at Butchart's the roses aren't out yet. Yesterday our flowers were covered with snow. We broke a record getting 6 cm. It's the first time it snowed in April since 1955. It's gone today but it's still chilly. The heat is supposed to return this week. I hope so.
Great blog Scirish. I love cars too. I will be back to write about my first car. Right now I want to answer my messages.
Good Morning to all owls that will soon be here.

Good Morning Goldie - You arrived at the nest while I was typing. I will read your post when I get back.

My first car was a Spirit AMC.

It was the ugliest thing I had ever seen, but it was free.

My parents got it for me when I was 17.

It looked like a spaceship.

But I will tell you what, that darn thing started everyday. It was old as Moses, but it had a great engine.

SCIRISH (fun blog! My first car was a Dodge Charger, charoal grey, hotttttt looking and yet a piece of shit! Barely got it paid off when I HAD to buy a new car. I am now on my second Honda Accord. I had the first one 14 or 15 years and would still have it if the heater didn't die and the cost to replace it was outrageous, so I bought a certified used one. And I paid it off last month! It really is MINE!!)
EBJ...the roses and grape vines sound like a glorious landscape. Pictures?????
MEK (get some sleep!)
BARBinWA...safe travels.
GOLDIE...I agree, keep the car until it is totally done! I hate car payments!

Thanks for the Passover wishes and comments ;)

HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY!

I second the motion about Chuckie Cheese!!!

Lynn D..Snow????? It has been in the 80's for the last several days here, which is unusual for the middle of April. I am still rehabbing the house (and will be forever, I think) and have been sweating my tail off..maybe I'll lose weight faster?

iteach...I remember the Spirit! It looked like a bubble on roller skates, but they were dependable.

Off to work on the house...I have to re-wash everything down again as we had to sand the walls a second time...arrgg..Can't wait to read all the car stories later!

East Bay J said...

Hi Goldie and MO!

Any suggestions on how to get my tassles off? They are stuck! haha!

We have no car payments, so are really reluctant to buy anything "new". Neither of us have to drive very far to our jobs, so the cars we have now will probably have to last.

I will take pics of roses and grapevines today, and post on Myspace (if I can). I have had major problems with Myspace lately, like getting foaded, so have not been on there in a while.

Mo: Unless I win the lottery no rag top! Mr. Lynn D's verdict not practical.

goldie: We are so alike especially about cleaning the car endlessly when it is new! Who needs that?? I clean when I feel like it on this car and it shows! LMAO!

Scrishy: Yes snow!! The last two days in Western WA! Woke up to about an inch or so this morning and all of the trees covered. It is melting now and we have blue skies! I feel for the people who planted new plants last weekend when it was in high 70's and low 80's.

EBJ: Sending you some gentle tassle remover! LOL

Iteach: My parents bought a new AMC Pacer when I was learning to drive. I think I mentioned before that my Dad called it the Pisser! Fishbowl on wheels and did not take mud puddles well. It would die when you went through one. The plus was I could see everything when I was learning to drive even when I backed into it! LOL

iteach said...

I'm trying really hard to remember my second car and I can't remember its full name.

I know it was a Pontiac and it was grey.

I bought it in 1993 with my first check as a teacher. It lasted until 1998 and then the engine died. I was two months away from having it all paid off.

Forgot to mention about my cars.

I don't remember all of my cars, I do remember my very first, which was given to me my parents when I
graduated High School, It was a Plymouth Arrow, and it was very blue!

For several yrs now I have been leasing, I really don't think I will ever buy a car again. Leasing for me it just easier, and I get a new car every 3yrs. I am now driving a Acura TL its my second Acura, and am planning on getting a 3rd, when this lease is up.

I always keep my car payments affordable, I never go above my means. So I car payment will always fit in my budget.

You just have to be smart and do what you can afford!

I love this topic. Cars are my passion. I lived in Germany so could not own a drivers license until age 19. I always buy my cars 1-2 years old and I buy them at auction. We bought a black Corvette off of EBay. One of my other fun cars has been a convertible Sunbird and my 4 wheel drive SUV because it never gets stuck in the sand at the beach, etc.
Gotta run. I have guests but love this TOTD!

Mornin' everyone. Blue skies here today but a little breezy.

iteach Good job being first today.

Carol Love the photo of Whabbear! Thanks Want. What are friends for?

scirish What a well written blog and interesting topic. Thank you.

My first car was a '57 Chevy. My parents gave it to me as a high school graduation present. My girlfriends and I had some great times with that car and it's also what I drove to my first job.

I now drive a '05 Prius, which I love and I went ahead and paid it off last year. My husband drove a Lincoln Town Car and it sat in the driveway for a long time after his death. It was paid off but I didn't want to keep it because I didn't need the extra expense of insurance and registration, nor the obligation to drive it periodically and keep it up. I procrastinated about getting rid of it though, and that puzzled me. I finally realized that it symbolized something to me. If that car was gone, it meant it was really true that he was never coming back. Once I realized that, I was able to let go. I finally sold it, a little over a year after my husband's death.

Just_Lin said...

Umm......I didn't mean to bring the conversation to a standstill. Please continue on with your regularly scheduled program. Thanks.

whabbear said...

LOL! How can you pole dance when you're fully clothed?

Glynis: I miss "Cpgem8"'s comments on the Rossblog! :(

Cars: Itemized list:

tuff red Ford mustang (high school)

White Pontiac hatchback (college).

VW rabbit (grad school... a real lemon).

Used 1984 Ford Escort (first wheels in California. Piece of crap car).

Used 1991 Acura Integra. Still driving it today.

Yes, it's about time for a new car! I'm thinking about a Toyota Camry hybrid. I drove in one last week and really liked it.

Wish list for my next car: I want a high-quality voice recognition and voice production interface with the internet, something that will allow me to say the name of web pages, read web-based text to me, read my e-mail to me, take voice dictation so I can post comments on the owl's nest, allow me to go into Rosschat etc. etc.

Sadly, I don't think voice-and-speech-based interfaces are yet available.

Am I right?

Just_Lin said...

Whabbear And of course if that car was available, it would be affordable, right? Either that or you better be darn good at pole dancing. LOL

Happy Sunday Owls. I am watching the Pope's Mass from Yankee Stadium as I write this. I am sure that this is wrong on at least a few levels, but here I am anyway.

Congrats Iteach on being the early bird. And from yesterday, Happy anniversary to your parents and to your sister and BIL.

LynnD: I loved your imitation of Scarlett O'Hara re: Chuck E. Cheese and I echo that sentiment. I took my Cub Scout Den there (many years ago) and vowed that I would not even take my future grandchildren. That would be their parents penance.

Mo: Happy passover to you.

Carol: Your blog yesterday had me all teary-eyed. It was beautiful. You have a way of writing that hits every point so well. And happy anniversary to your parents, too.

MEK: LOL @ FOUR!

Barb/WA: Praying that you get home safely. I hope the trip home isn't as arduous as the trip to AZ. It's so nice that you got to go to AZ and that you and MEK got to meet. Are you going to come to the 2nd BABB in August so we can all meet you, too?

(Breaking this up into two posts)

sacBarb said...

Scirish: Loved this blog. I am not much of a car person, but it did bring back many fond memories.

J/L: I had a hard time selling my Hubby's truck after he died, too. I finally sold it to a good friend of ours who I knew would take very good care of it.

Bear: Nice pic! I almost bought a Camry Hybrid last year, but at the last minute I decided on the Saturn Aura Hybrid. The Toyota salesman pissed me off because he was treating me like I was an idiot. Even if I am (about cars), he shouldn't have treated me like that, so I went with the Saturn. And I love it, although with the gas prices now, I wish I had gotten a Prius for the gas mileage.

I never had a car of my own in high school. I drove my parent's car or a boyfriend's. My husband had a '55 Chevy when we met. It was a stick shift that he converted from the column to the floor and the seat couldn't be moved up, so that I had to use a 3" thick pillow behind my back to reach the pedals. I swear that car didn't like me, because the engine would die for no reason. (That never happened to him) Anyway, 3 days before we got married, he came to pick me up in a 57' Chevy (automatic) that he traded his '55 for. That was a true test of love, because the '55 was his baby.

iteach said...

My third car was a white Ford Escort. I had that from 1998 until 2003. It was a cheap and little. However, it was reasonable car payments and it helped me tool around town.

Not bad for a teacher's salary.

Hi SacBarb and iteach! Waving my wing.

SacBarb That was a cute story about your hubby trading in his "baby". I finally sold my husband's car to his son's neighbor. You wouldn't think a young man in his 20's would have wanted a Town Car but his absolutely loves it. It's nice to know that these cars went to people who really enjoy them.

Just_Lin said...

I forgot to say that I have to go finish up a project at work but I will check in later. I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

sacBarb said...

J/L: Yes, he did that completely without my knowledge or even prompting. I did tell him often though that I was sure his car hated me. Perhaps that was a 'little' prompting. :)

Congrats on 1st Iteach!

Great blog Scirish!

I have had a total of 6 cars in my lifetime. Dad taught me to drive when I was 12. My first car cost $150.00 and the second one was $100.00. The were both Pontiac Astras. Good enough for getting to school and driving around.

I remember going to Halifax (about 2 and 1/2 hrs, away) once and I had to put 6 litres of oil in. That's when it came in cans and you needed a funnel to pour it in. Messy, but I didn't care.

Now I don't have any car cause it was reposessed in 1998. With gas prices at $1.29 a litre it's a good thing I don't have a car. I would never be able to afford it.

iteach said...

My fourth and current car is a 2004 gray Dodge Caravan. We will ride it until it dies.

Good afternoon everyone! Congrats on being first, iteach!

Scirish: Great post!

Like Sacbarb,I drove my parents car for a long time. However, when I started dating Bruce, he helped me to get my first car. It was a 1978 Dodge Charger (it was tan and was a TANK)! It had excellent pick-up though! I paid cash for it (that I had saved while working and living at home). I think it was only $500.00. It didn't last very long (maybe a year). By then Bruce and I got engaged and he drove me to work most of the time. He had a 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass. When we got married we also got a 1979 Ford Bronco (and I drove that most of the time). I loved that thing (except for the gas mileage)! We had it for a LONG time (my daughter was 4 when we got rid of it). Then we got a 1992 Mercury Cougar. (By then Bruce also had a Ford Ranger that he still drives to this day). We got rid of that (a couple years before he left me) and bought the car that I now have which is a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus.

J/L: I was touched by your story, and it reminds me of my car. Even though it was 2003, we bought this 1998 car from a friend of my cousin. It was his father in laws. His wife was having a real hard time selling it. The guy was mad that she wouldn't let him buy it (but she didn't want the memories of it around). It was in great shape and only had 28,000 ORIGINAL miles on it! He babied the car. (His son in law worked at Chrysler with my cousin). Anyway, I test drove it and fell in love with it. His wife was happy to sell it to me. I didn't know the man, but have always treated this car with care and respect as a tribute to the man who loved the car! (Does that sound silly?)

In the divorce, I was able to keep the car (and we paid it off). It only has 68, 000 miles on it now, but the A.C. hasn't worked for 3 years now. However, I do have a sunroof (but it's not fun when I have to go long distances in the summer). It will cost a couple thousand to fix it too. : (

I won't be able to afford another car until I get a "real" job!

EBJ: Being a bit of a wine snob, it is true about the roses. When the roses have bugs, they know when to spray the grapes. You should watch the movie "A Good Life" with Russel Crow. Most of it takes place on a vineyard in the South of France.

I see I have written a novel again. (I should REALLY be writing my PAPER)! But that's not "fun"! ; )

Have a great day everyone!

sacBarb said...

Whabby: They make the VUE which is a small SUV and the Aura which is a sedan very much like the Camry. They both come with OnStar which is how I got to your house last Sept. And now that we must use hands free when using cell phones, I can call people via OnStar and my car has a phone # so they can even call me. Luv it!

The Camry has bluetooth, but I know someone who has one and he is always having trouble with the bluetooth, so that's another reason I am glad I got the Saturn.

sacBarb said...

Whabby: Also, the Saturn Hybrid battery is much cheaper to replace than the Camry Hybrid battery.

Hi everyone!

Hope you're all having a nice Sunday!

I put some pics of roses and grapevines on Myspace (I didn't get foaded!!! Shocker).

I forgot, I had an '83 Cadillac Seville once, that was such a beautiful car back then. I hated parting with it.

I traded it in and got a brand new Nissan truck! I needed the truck because I had 2 dogs, plus a pet goat, and I needed a way to haul hay bales! It had a camper shell and was a great car.

My first car was a "hand me down" from my parents - A Chevy Malibu Classic - I called it the "Brown Bomb" - it was huge and the seatbelts HAD to be buckled before it would even start - after awhile, the sensor on the passenger side had died - so who ever was sitting in the passenger seat had lift their ass off the seat in order for me to start it!! It was hilarious at times!!

I traded that in for a Toyota SR5 Hardtop that I owned for 11 years - LOVED that car - totaled it going 5 miles an hour into the back of an Isuzu Trooper(it slammed on it's breaks and the sand from deicing the snowy streets slid me right into the back of it) - i was REALLY bummed about that - my little car only had 63,000 miles (yes, after 11 years - I never go anyway and work was really close to home) -

Then got this little Plymouth thing, cuz it was the only thing I could afford... HATED that thing.. Traded it in for my Celica

had the Toyoto Celica with a sunroof - for a couple of years - until I got stuck in a blizzard in Colorado - TRIPLE LOVED that - HATED getting rid of it - traded it in for the RAV4 that I now own - I helped the sales guy peel the plastic off it - it was SOOO new!! it is a '99 and only has 73,000 - we got this, cuz the dogs got bigger than we anticipated - but it's been a great vehicle..

JUST last week, Mr. MEK said - you need a new car - and I (must have been sick) said - what I have is working fine and we DON'T need another car payment!!!

SO - i think that is my car story!!

heck, I think I need a nap!! LOL

MEK in AZ said...

SacBarb - YES, we took pictures - I need to get some uploaded..

I enabled her to get a "crop-a-dile" - I had 50% off coupons!! She got a couple other things that we used making the books!!

I found some Christmas paper flowers that are never in stock during the holidays!! SO, shocking - I only bought ONE thing!!

Hi, all. Wow, it's sure been quiet in here today. First car was a new Olds Cutlass (silver blue) Junior year of college (Thanks Mom & Dad). HAD to have a car for driving across Seattle to student teaching posts.

Traded it 2 years later for another new Olds Cutlass (gold). Loved it, but got sandwiched in the middle of a 5-car pile-up on I-5 in Seattle.

Then got my beloved 'tank', an Oldsmobile Toronado. Later, married into the first Corvette Sting-Ray (school bus yellow). We totalled it (also on I-5 @ SouthCenter in Seattle---within a mile of the Cutlass's demise) returning from Eugene to Seattle in a freak Easter weekend ice/snowstorm. Replaced it with another 'Vette, gold this time. We also 'killed' a Lincoln Continental, using it to pull the boat to and from deep-sea fishing trips, until replacing it with a Chevy half-ton and camper. Went back to a sedan after realizing how impossible it is to go grocery shopping with a toddler in a Corvette.

Early on as an over-financed single mom, I bought my first Hyundai Elantra sedan as it met my one requirement....cheapest car I could buy new. After 12 years of NO maintenance other than oil changes and new tires and wiper-blades, decided to buy another Hyundai and now have my 8-year old Hyndai Elantra 'Nana-Wagon'. Same story...no dings, no rattles, no maintenance, no payments, good mileage, good sound, power everything. Hey, if it ain't broke.....Thinking the next buy will be a Prius, though, unless something better comes along.

I have worked with the used car business for 11 years now. Don't kill me for saying this but Fords have factory defects that are never addressed properly. My uncle has built Fords all of his life so I am not biased, however they will not redesign the factory flaws. A huge flaw is the AC hoses. They cause "black death". To fix this cost $1500 but Ford installs the same hoses that caused the "black death" to begin with. The Toyota Prius used to have problems with the battery. I have been told that the price is now lower on the $3000 battery and the warranty is now 7 years on the vehicle. So as long as you have a warranty then it's a great car.

OMG....Dreama! I have bought
cars off of Ebay too! It has worked well before, I'll let you know about the last one later. It inspired the blog. It was an hour away. I loved the feeling it gave me driving it back. A kick a** black jeep with super wide wheels and beautiful chrome rims. Most of the newness was in the engine, but the outside isn't bad nor is the inside.

I wish cars were like a purse or earrings and we could change according to the mood or event.

I have in my fav car list, a Mustang (old and new) a PT Cruiser, and under consideration is any car I haven't had yet. I too like the no car pmt thingy...AND I kinda like fixing them up..(although after this freaking house, I may lose my desire to fix anything up ever again)

Jennifer....Have you had the A/C charged with dye? Traditionally there are leaks which are easy to fix. The only way it will cost a bunch is if the compressor is gone. Even then the most it should cost is 800.00ish or less depending on the car

scirish said...

Jennifer....I read your post again...and with that amount of miles..it should be a recharge...not a compressor. Recharge is about 100.00. Which is not bad if you like A/C

My most fun car was when I was about 40 and we bought a brand new red convertible. I had always wanted one and I loved it. I drove many times with the top down and the heat on or the top down and the air condtioner on. I just leased a new car last week..a Nissan Rogue. I like Nissan's and I like to lease because I don't want an older car. I get too scared of breakdowns.

Looks like everyone is really relaxing today. ITEACH: Thanks for the Buster Bar. I haven't had one in years! I just came home from dinner and I had an ice cream sundae for dinner..but I guess the Buster bar can be my bedtime snack!

Wonder where Zona is today? She is probably still sleeping from the party. Boy, that is one woman that knows how to have a party!! Who would have thought it?

Dianne/Denver said...

MEK AND BARB: Sounds like you both had a great time. It is always fun to have a girls weekend, isn't it?

SCIRISH: Nice blog and I am glad you are feeling better. You are inspiring me to do some things around here as I am just plain lazy lately (since I retired).

I think I will go watch what I have recorded so far as it has only been on 15 minutes here.

J/L: Aren't your glasses getting heavy on your nose? Has Custard seen them yet? It gives new meaning to the old school names of 4 eyes!! Actually, I have never had anyone call me that with my glases but when I look at your picture...that name came to mind. :)

good evening Night Owls!!!

Long night.. It has been pouring down rain all day.... Delivery is good but miserable to be out in it...

Iteach---Congrats on 1st!!!!!

Cars... i love cars... have had a few...

My first... 1976 Green Ford PINTO!!!! I got it in 1979 for graduation !!1 Totaled it 3 months later... Tried to straighten out a a very curvy road... ran off the road.. down a 50 foot embankment.. sideswiping trees to keep from rolling over and then ended up head on in a tree... it slowed a lot by then...

Next car... 1977 Ford Maverick...Powder Blue ..
Then sold that when I moved to Colo with my parents... then When I got there... I got the Colorado Boogie Bug...
It was A VW Bug... dark Blue With pin stripes of blue lighter blue and white...
i loved this car... it was a little snow mobil..
brought it back to Va with me... It got sabataged ...

then ... A Blue Pinto...
Then a red Escort Station wagon...
Then my Mazda 626... back when they were cute and looked like BMW's.. blew that up...then we got a few , What i call Throw away cars.. we would get them at Auction for 2-300 dollars.. they would last 2-3 years... I had like 4 or 5 of them... the last one got totaled as i was T-boned turning into my subdivision...

Now I have My beautiful Electric Blue PT Cruiser!!!
I love my car... It suits me!!!
Everyone have a grand night...

Hubby just hallored to get the camera... we just watched a 300 pound black bear walk around the neighbors yard.. then as I turned on the light to get pictures he went into the woodds across the street.. I will get pictures of him this year...his partner too...

ibebold said...

wow.. you guys are having a party!!!
It took me forever to write that last post... missed a march and everything!!!

Dianne/Denver said...

IBB: yikes!!! I 300lb bear. I thought you lived in the city for some reason. I must be wrong, right? I would be scared if that animal was wandering around. Be sure you post the picture if you get it...don't get too close.

Night...

ibebold said...

Dianne-- I live in a little town in the mountians.. 60 miles west of DC...

MEK in AZ said...

IBB - please make sure all my babies are safe AND you and Mr. IBB - can't believe that bear is back!! YIKES!!!!!!!

sorry it's raining at your house - we are having warm weather and tonight is another beautiful evening!! I miss my friend sitting out there with me!!
:-(

ibebold said...

MEK--Gus and maggie smelled him... that is what made us look.. the cat doesn't go outside at all during bear season...

I bet you do miss your buddy... that was really cool...
Saw your pics on MS...

ibebold said...

Well not so little any more... the town and county have about 26,000...

Dianne/Denver said...

IBB: I guess when I am think of close to DC I have a completely different picture in my mind of where you live!! My husband and family are from Virginia Beach so that is my other mental image..I don't think there are bears around their house either. It just surprised me when you said the 300lb bear was outside. I would love to see one like that but I would like to be on the inside looking out. Make sure all your windows are closed or whatever it is you do to keep bears away!!

ibebold said...

Dianne-- I am 4 hours from Va beach...
I live in the Shenandoah Valley..Alot of the Civil War was fought here so a lot of historic sites...

But I live on a mountian.. so the bears come with the territory... they come around every year .. just have to keep your trash locked up and we have a 7 foot fence... but tehy come over that like it is nothing...
They are cool to watch, as you said .. from the inside looking out... I do have some picture of my yard and view from my deck on MS..If you care to look..

I could talk about cars forever. I did have one winning bid on an EBay auction that turned out to be a dud. It was a red Corvette convertible with a black top (sigh). The photos and description said the car was in excellant condition inside and out. We drove the 6 hour round trip to pay for it and pick it up. We noticed right away that the front end had been repainted. The dealer said oh not to worry and that they had only repainted some scratches. On closer observation we saw brand new screws installed. This meant the vehicle had been in a front end collision.(Falsehood #1) Then we checked the top of the oil cap. It was covered in black sludge. The oil had been changed but they didn't clean the cap. (Always check the oil cap!). Lastly we looked under the vehicle and found black oil leaked all over the bottom. The drive home empty handed was a bummer and I took a great deal of time perfecting their negative comment.

Looks like everyone really went to bed early tonight. The last post was hours ago and now I guess I will go to bed. I have been watching too much tv tonight. After the news on Sat and Sun, CSI-Miami and the Cold Case are on and the bad news tonight is that we hadn't seen either episode...night to anyone peeking in on a potty break!!

Goodnight all !

Scirish: I did have the dye thing done. I don't think it was the compressor but the leak was so far back that they would have to tear out my entire dash board to fix it (so the cost is due to it being so labor intensive). I have had it charged and it only lasts a day (because the leak is so bad)! My cousin Jack (who is a car guy) agreed that it will be expensive to fix because of the work involved. : (

IBB: How scary that you have bears around! Yes, keep those animals safe! I also wanted to mention that I had to drive a 1977 Ford Maverick too (it was my parents)! It was a dark orange/brown color (very ugly)! It was a 4 door. Not very "cool"!
