The Shawshank Redemption

i have been wanting to blog about
my favorite movie forever and it just
seemed the words would not come

when i blog, the words must come easy
i must not struggle

what brought me to this blog today
was watching one of my favorite
movies "The Shawshank Redemption"
i think i watched it a dozen times and
each time i am enthralled by it

i love the way Andy figures things out
he seems to have so much patience
and even tho he was never guilty
he just took his sentence as a way
of life, at least we thought he did

his friendship with Red was very
endearing, and it just proofs that
friendships are very strong indeed

it's a powerful, poignant, thought-provoking
challenging film like no other i have watched

the ending of the movie when Andy is
in Zihuatanejo on that amazing beach
and Red walks up the beach towards
Andy, is forever a picture perfect postcard

quoting Andy
"Get busy watching, or get busy dying."

he is right, the yellow is out there
it surrounds all of us~~

what movie has forever touched you
and allows you to watch it over again
a zillion times only to watch it one
more time?

OMG, I made the #1, HA that NEVER happens,

I'm sorry cpgem8 I didn't see that movie. Maybe I'll have to. Ok, I will check back later. I have to do laundry, etc. I hope everyone has a Good Day. We are going to Vincents (middle son) Concert/Play, his part is the Pirate from Spongebob. He has a 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm performance. Of course, I have to be at both. He was a little nervous this morning. But I'm sorta sad this is is final performance at his Elementary school, In Sept. he starts middle school. Ok Laundry calls.

Good morning hooters!

Renee you are first, congrats!

Hi Amicus and Carol!

I've never seen Shawshank Redemption...

One of my all time favorites is Shirley Valentine. A lot of people have never heard of it, it is a British movie and it's hysterical.

It's always good for a laugh!

Another favorite is Saturday Night Fever.

I know I will think of more as the day goes on!

Have a great day!

I think the movie for me would have to be "Anne Of Green Gables". I have watched it numerous times. It is such a feel good movie. The bond that forms between Matthew, Marilla and Anne is just wonderful to see unfold. I love this movie.

Congrats on 1st Renee Eve.

Great blog Carol.

Iteach--
You are in for one long day if he hangs around!!!eewwwhhh stinky...

My favorite movie all time....
GONE WITH THE WIND...

I am a good southern girl...

My nieces(14 & 16) watched it with me a couple of years ago.. they thought Scarlette was a spoiled brat...
They didn't understand the way of the south...

OOOPS.. Just got out of the shower and see I didn't hit Publish...
So I know I missed someone... will be right back!!!
Imagine that!!!

Ibebold: "If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill! As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!" :)

Shirley: I've never seen the movie you mentioned, but I know Tinka loves it too. :)

Morning Glories!

Congrats to Renee Eve on 1st!

Carol great blog today!

Love Shawshank Redemption! I gave my copy to my Dad as he had never seen it before and he won't give it back! LOL

I also really liked the Green Mile. Funny because both of these movies were born out of short stories from Stephen King and I am not a real fan of his writing.

One of my all time favorites that I watch every few years is Fried Green Tomato's. Fannie Flagg love all her books too. This is a movie like Shawshank and The Green Mile that really, I think celebrates friendship in all it's forms.

But really all three of these movies are about story telling to me. They don't rely on background scenery and massive special effects to keep the viewer. The story is what keeps you watching! IMHO.

EBJ: I loved Shirley Valentine! Another great story! I wish I had that one on DVD!

Shirley: I have All of the Anne of Green Gables!! Great for a rainy day!

Iteach: Stay away from the skunk! LOL

IBB: I have watched gone with the wind twice. Sorry to say I agree with your nieces. I just could not get into that movie. I do realize that it is a masterpiece and there was great acting but I really could not connect with the characters.

Hi Amicus!

One of my favorite comedies to watch over and over is a Fish called Wanda. It appeals to my warped silly side! Makes me laugh everytime!

Happy Thursday!!

Good morning everyone!!

Renee - congrats on first!!

Iteach - PPPEEEEEUUUUUUU.... sure hope it goes away!! I was amazed at all the shunk roadkill on our way to and from Texas!!

Cpgem - I have never seen Shawshank Redemption.. guess I will have to rent it..

OH - where to I start with the movies I can watch over and over - I LOVE those romantic comedies -

Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman, Princess Diaries I and II, Raising Helen, Just Like Heaven, - I'm having a brain fart!!

Then - there are Officer and a Gentleman (always dreamed of the ending happening to me!! LOL), Top Gun, Saturday Nite Fever, - goodness

Then there's - Shall We Dance, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, - I will stop now!!

anyway - back to my projects that I have started and are growing in leaps and bounds!!!

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!! :-)

Congrats on first Renee! I have a full day too.
We have a full nest today! Morning,MEK,iteach, Amicus,IBB,Tinkatia,EBJ,Shirley,LynnD, and and anyone else flying in.
My favorite movies are La Strada with Anthony Quinn, it's subtitled, which I hate, but I have watched this movie umpteen times anyway!
My other fave. which was on last night is Withering Heights.
I have got to get going to the big city(Lansing) and VFW business. Later all!!

DonnaJean said...

I agree Carol, Shawshank Redemption is one of the most thought provoking, amazing movies of all time.

It is definitely NOT a movie, though for everyone.

It is very violent, and makes you very sad for many people.

But the message it gives back is truly beautiful.
Friendship, integrity, courage, and determination.

I like all kinds of movies. Humor, drama, musicals, Disney. You name it.

I recently purchased "Across The Universe" about the late 1960's, MY generation! The Beatles music is heavily used in this movie.

I haven't watched it yet, maybe this weekend, and I will give you my "Ebert and Roper" report!

Its interesting to see what everyone's favorite movies are. It tells a lot about that person.

I'm not sure if I actually have a "favorite" movie. There are so many out there that have personally touched my life, and I have needed each and every one in different ways, on different days!

~~Maureen~~ I have a special message sent to you from everyone's dear friend, SeaSideLady!

She and I email now and then, and I talked with her yesterday.

She told me to tell you Hi Maureen, and that she told JBJ you loved him, when she saw him at the concert!

She has lots of pictures up on her Myspace of the concert, and said you should all check them out!

She does miss all of the Owls Nest people who used to post on the other blog, but she is just extremely busy with her family, and barely has enough time to post on her MySpace and occasionally on the RBlog.

Well, I am off for a long day of appointments I don't want to go to.

First off is the Dentist. Just for a cleaning, but I still hate going!

Then, it is my first day of Therapy at Kaiser to help me deal with all the stuff going on in my life. Especially with Laurie's upcoming surgery. I know this is a good thing to do, it will help me deal with alot, but I am just dreading it!

So, off to shower and get ready!

Everyone have a wonderful Thursday, and I'll fly by later to say Hi again, and see what kind of trouble you have all gotten into!

Peace and Love, DonnaJean

cpgem8 Thanks for the Owl Said today. It's true! :)

I adore "Shawshank Redemption" and am surprised that so many have not seen it. It really is a wonderful movie. The kind that both men and women like.

I love the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird". It's a classic. If I really want to laugh, the old movie "Arsenic and Old Lace" with Cary Grant gets me every time. LOVE IT!! I also love the old James Stewart movie, "Harvey". Absolutley charming.

CAROL - I love The Shawshank Redemption!!! My hubby finally had me sit down and watch it with him. It is a very powerful movie. I can't count how many times I've watched it now - it just never gets old.

LYNN D - I, too love The Green Mile. Who doesn't love Tom Hanks.....I truly believe he is the Jimmy Stewart of our time. Fried Green Tomatoes is another fav.....and I agree, all three of these movies are very story driven. Now don't get me wrong, I love special effects......Harry Potter and Star Wars are two of my fav's.....be can really appreciate a story driven movie!!!

I hope everyone has donned their favorite thong today!!!

OMG, if there ever was a perfect topic. This is it. I have a SR poster on my wall of my bedroom. My favorite quote from the movie is obviously the most famous: "Fear can hold you prisoner, Hope can set you free". I have probably watched this movie 30 times, no lie. It is the best movie ever made. So excited a blog was about this! Fantastic!

goldie said...

Hi hooters! Busy day at work, just checking in at lunch- congrats Renee Eve on 1st.

Love SR- I think it may have to do with the actors as much as the movie substance.
My favs are Steel Magnolias- I love the interaction with olympia dukakis and Shirley McClains characters-especially in the cemetary.
My second fav is the Original Father of the Bride. I like feel good movies. But Blackhawk Down was very powerful as was Saving Private Ryan. I really enjoy many - too many to name.

I hope you all have a good day. Idol boot off and Survivor night!

DJ- I may be mistaken, but I think today may be the anniversary of an important date in your life. I am thinking about you and hugs!

Hey gang I am girding my loins to do a grossry store run! LOL I swear I am getting phobic about this chore.

Hodi: I totally enjoy a good special effects movie if it is done right. I even like Sci Fi Mr. Lynn D has taught me to appreciate the Genre. Belive me we have all of the Star Wars movies. You know if I go down and look I bet we have more of his movies than mine! LOL I also like the Harry Potter movies!

But story driven ones for some reason are close to my heart.

Oddly I even like subtitled movies. They drive Mr. Lynn D crazy. Cinema Paradiso is one of my favorites. I don't get to see them very often. The video stores here don't carry them much. I don't want to say I live in a rural (whispering) redneck area but.... I really love English movies and humor.

I do love a lazy weekend and stumbling across an old movie. Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Doris Day, Tracey and Hepburn and so many more. It takes me back and I guess you would say they are comfort movies.

Ohh I forgot Bette Davis!

kahonugrl said...

I think I am partial to a old movie but because of family ties.
My grandfather was a writer and wrote many articles for Life, Coronet, Readers Digest and many others. My grandfather in the late 20"s early 30's was a writer for the Chicago Sun Times and picked up on an ad that was in the classifieds. It was a simple ad placed by an older polish woman offering a $5000 reward for information that would prove her son innocent of a crime. My grandfather loved human interest stuff and met with this woman. This meeting led to the man being freed and the story being written. The story was picked up by a Hollywood Studio and turned into a manuscript for a movie. That movie is "Call Northside 777" and Jimmy Stewert plays my grandfather in the movie......

As I was only 6 when my grandfather died it's a way today to still connect to him.

Current favorites are "It's My Party", "Eulogy" any good documentary and I LOVE movies like 7, Insomnia, etc.....sorry kinda got off topic huh? lol

Dr. Dan,

My heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your fish. I'm not able to attend the visitation, but my thoughts will be with you.
BTW, how has your Llama been doing since the sex change? ;)

LYNN D - Nothing like Bette Davis in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"!!

I'm also a big fan of English humor!! Nothing beats Monty Python and the Holy Grail!! A more current favorite is both the Bridget Jones Diary movies!!!

Jodi said...

TURTLE - What a great story about your grandfather - and how neat that you can watch that movie and keep those ties alive. :)

Hey Owls! I am not sure if anyone knew I was gone, but we just reyrned from our mini-vacatopn last night. We had such a blast!! Good to be home though.

I love reading about your favorite movies! One of mine is "Shirley Valentine"...have you seen it? It is not on DVD and is hard to find, but I just love that movie! It is mostly about how a woman(Shirley) realizes that thru marriage and having kids she lost her identity and became only mom and wife... and how she went to Greece and found herself again. I especially love when she talks to the kitchen wall for good conversation.

Hope you are all having a great week! Luckily we can all come here, instead of talking to our kitchen wall!

Hi everyone, I'm back, did you miss me? One appointment down, the teeth cleaning, and one more to go, the Therapy Counseling!!

Good news at the dentist's though. No need for fillings, root canals or crowns!!! And I got the "free" toothbrush, toothpaste and floss!

My Dentist, who is my age and a wonderful man, (another "old hippie" from the 60's like me) just returned from Africa where he and several other Dentists went to help out for two weeks on children. These children had never had any type of dental work their whole lives! Even the teachers at most of the schools had never had any dental work done. And one school was a Braille School, and those children had the worst problems, due to them not being able to see where they were going and falling so much, many broken teeth.

He said it was one of the most
awe-inspiring things he had ever done, and is hoping to return again next year. They left lots of dental supplies for them, as they won't see a dentist again until another group returns.

~~Goldie~~ How sweet of you to think about me. Actually, the date was April 2. But I sure enjoyed that hug you sent though! I really need them today. I am very nervous about starting counseling. I know it will be good for me, but opening up about all the things going on in my life is very daunting.

~~Turtle~~ What an interesting and exciting family story you have! I remember seeing that movie with Jimmy Stewart so many years ago. Now, I am going to have to go to Amazon and find the movie and re-watch it, with a whole new outlook!

Off to have a bite of lunch before I have to leave again.

Happy Thursday Afternoon, and sorry, no thongs (even flip flops) for me today!!!

Peace and Love, DonnaJean

Hi all! A quick post while I am here at work and then I must work on school work when I get home!

Anyway, I love all the movies everyone has shared. I liked SR too...as you may know, I am a bit of a "romantic" so I love the romance movies (and a good romantic comedy)! I LOVE English movies too (esp. a good "period piece")!

Two that I seem to watch over and over again are "Jane Eyre" (the 80's version with William Hurt) and "Pride and Prejudice"...I used to love the one with Collin Firth, but am a recent fan of the newest version with Keira (sp?) Knightly (sp?).

I love silly humor (and British humor is GREAT)! Jodi, I think I mentioned to you that I love Monty Python too (esp. the Holy Grail...which is one I have seen MANY times and I laugh each and every time)! I also love the Mr. Bean comedies (the movies are quite as funny as his half hour skits were).

I am a big fan of Briget Jones (as it is "loosely" based on "Pride and Prejudice")!

Another favorite is French Kiss (with Meg Ryan and Kevin Klein).

For action movies I love a good "suspense" like all the Bourne movies. (I like to try to figure things out along the way)! Who doesn't love a good James Bond movie either?! I also love all the Bruce Lee movies (as I am a big fan of martial arts...I esp. love the "B" movies because they are funny)! I like Jackie Chan movies too (as the out-takes at the end are well worth watching too)!

I see I am composing another novel! I LOVE movies! (Can ya tell?)!

Turtle: That is such an awesome story. Do you know if that movie is still in print? I would love to rent it!

OK...must go.. (I'm sure to the relief of you all)! I really will try harder to shorten my posts...but I do get excited...

Later...

Jennifer said...

Sorry...I really need to proof read...

Did not mean to infer that SR is a romance movie...I guess I should have started a new sentence..

I also meant to say that the Mr. Bean movies AREN'T as good as his skits!

OK...really must go now...and ending on an even number! ; )

44!

kahonugrl said...

I already have a copy, but I just checked Netflix and they have it so I would assume Blockbuster and the larger stores would have it.

Glynis said...

Jennifer~ I also love the movie French Kiss. It reminds me of my younger years, traveling across Europe by train and not a care in the world. Plus, the US dollar was REALLY strong!

Those were the good ol' days!

Glynis said...

OH...another movie that just cracks me up every time... is Multiplicity. I just adore Michael Keaton and Andie McDowell. When he has all his clones and one is his masculine side, one is his feminine side and the third is like Jerry Lewis because it is a copy of a copy... well, I just die laughing.

And I feel like I need to go to Movie Viewers Anonymous... I have NEVER seen Shawshank Redemption or < gasp > Gone with the Wind. Hey, I DID finally watch It's a Wonderful Life for the first time last Christmas!!

Jennifer said...

Thanks Turtle! I'll look for it and put it on my Blockbuster que. (Since my divorce I have become an avid movie watcher because I can FINALLY watch all the movies "I" want to see for once)!

I also love the movie "Love Actually" and many independent films. (I like "artsy-fartsy")! ; )

I have been reading the comments and with each mention of a movie I am agreeing "Oh yes that's a great one". I have so many movies that I love watching over and over. They are my bedtime stories. Sometimes I will go through all the movies that Tom Hanks has made. Then Reese Witherspoon etc. It would be hard for me for choose. I love 90% of all romantic comedies. "Sleepless in Seattle", "You've Got Mail",
"Same Time Next Year", "While You Were Sleeping" "Bridget Jones" are just a few of my favourites. If I am sick in bed I may spend the whole day watching the complete "Anne of Green Gables" series. I love all the "Doris Day, Rock Hudson movies from the 50's and 60's. The only movies I don't like are the crude comedies and the violent ones. I can get lost in almost any other. I love the old black and white movies like "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I could type names all day but I won't bore people. I am a movie nut I think.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

CPGEM: Great blog today, and everyday. I actually sat in awe the first time I watched "Shawshank Redemption", I thought it was an amazing movie. I also read the story by Stephen King, but the movie...the movie was just so much MORE. I don't know how else to say it.

I like all kinds of movies. The one that I can sit and watch over and over again, even though it is over 3 hours long, is "The Great Race"..silly, yes..but I love Jack Lemmon in it and my favorite actress of all time, Natalie Wood.

RENEE: Congrats on being first today!

EBJ: I've never seen Shirley Valentine, will have to look for it.

IBB: I think GWTW might just be one of those 'perfect' movies.

ITEACH: I hope you all survived the skunk lurker without any damage!

LYNND: I never saw Green Mile..but I read the books. Stephen King had them released in a series, about two weeks apart. I had a hard time waiting for the next book to come out, to continue the story.

MEK: I hope you have everything you want to do, done before the heat really hits this weekend so you can relax a little bit. :)

J/LIN: "To Kill A Mockingbird" is truly a classic.

JODI: I've seen "Star Wars" too many times to count. Sometimes wish I could really use The Force! ;)

Jodi said...

Hey ZONA!!! Star Wars is such an incredible series.....and something that I get to enjoy with my boys!!! They are amazed that I got to see the original ones in the theater......I'll never forget watching the first one. It was totally mind blowing......I had never seen anything like it (pretty high tech stuff for the 70's) - and I was hooked. I hope you are having a great day!!!

Off to a meeting at work. I'll check back in before I have to go to work in the morning. Hopefully I will get home before AI is done. If not, I will definitely be sending JOEY a message for who got booted off!!!

Zona said...

And now for the sequel to my first post...

KGRL: REALLY? Your grandfather..I have to go find that movie this weekend. How cool!

GOLDIE: I still want to trade weather with you..there has to be a way. ;)

JENNIFER: It's no secret why I love the "Bridget Jones" movies, besides the fact that they are truly funny. ;)

BARB/WA: My too scary movie would be "The Exorcist"...I read only 24 pages of the book and can't even look at screen shots of the movie. Even the song "Tubular Bells" freaks me out.

TINKA: Another of my favorite movies "Same Time Next Year"! I love that one! "If I knew you were coming, I'd have baked a cake.." a really good movie. Can we watch it when I come visit??

DIANNE: Please bring popcorn tonight!! I am going over to your page now and listen to your music.

I also like "The Goodbye Girl"..Neil Simon is a master.

Wanted to wave HI to MARY/MI, SHIRLEY, GLYNIS, AMICUS and DONNA JEAN.

SACBARB, VIG, RGIRL, MO..missing you all.

Now than, TINA...how is your day going at work?? Which George Clooney movie is your favorite? ;)

Zona said...

JODI: We saw "STAR WARS" the day it opened at the Cine Capri, which was an old time velvet curtains in the lobby--spiral staircase type theater. It had the largest screen and best sound system in the city. We sat in the third row..can you imagine?? I don't think I blinked the entire time. It was an incredible experience! We went back at least ten more times!! I never, ever get tired of that movie. And Harrison Ford? Just gorgeous. There isn't another movie that will ever compare to that one as a "movie going experience" for me.

Hidee Ho everyone!

Checking in survived the grossry store today! Actually it wasn't too bad at all.

I have good news and bad news! The good news is that I won some money in the Mega millions! Scanned my ticket and the bad news it was $7.00 damn I was hoping for enough to plan an owls retreat and meet! Found money so I bought more tickets. LOL

I am loving the movie lists! So many I agree with.

Here is a secret shhhh I am hooked on Masterpiece theater! tho they just call it Masterpiece now. I think their version of Wuthering Heights is the best!!!

Their version of Bleak House was a stunner too!

Kgirl: That story about your grandfather was very cool! What a great legacy. I will have to try to find that one also.

DonnaJean: I really think you will appreciate the counseling once you get past the first few appt. jitters!

Glynis: Welcome back!!! I wish I could find a copy of Shirley Valentine! I will have to do a search. I wonder if it is on Youtube? They seem to have everything else.

Hey Mo: If I miss you checking in tonight! Just want to let you know I miss ya!!!!

Did I just read the Dr. Dan has a pet that reads the Llamasutra?

PSS: I actually received an angry honk from another car today. I was so embarrassed! I was writing an Owl Blog in my head and did not realize the light had turned Green!

Good evening feathered friends!

Hope you are all having a Terrific Thong Thursday!

EVE...Congrats on first! Be sure to come back and tell us about Vincent's play/concert.

CAROL...I loved SR, too! Morgan Freeman is an amazing actor.

I will start with what I DON'T like...scary evil movies!

I am partial to Romantic Comedies. I can watch Pretty Woman over and over...and I have! One of my favorite scenes is when RIchard Gere (relax Zona!!) is showing Julia Roberts the necklace and he snaps it closed...she has the most contagious laugh!

I also love the scene in Dirty Dancing, near the end when Patrick Swayze leaps off the stage onto the floor...I LOVE that scene! One weekend, I rented it and replayed that scene over and over and over...!!

When I was younger, I LOVED the movie...The Other Side of the Mountain. Watched it gazillions of times!

Love St. ELmo's Fire (I have a thing to this day for Andrew McCarthy!). I watch it whenever I would find it on tv.

I also LOVE the classic comedies...Hot Shots, Airplane, Naked Gun! I laugh my ass off everytime I see them!

One of my favorite classic movies is It Happened One Night. And of course The Sound of Music.

I forgot who mentioned it, but Sleeping with the Enemy was awesome.

And finally (am I hearing a collective sigh of relief??? LOL) I LOVED the movie The Miracle Mile. It was out for about an hour in late 80's and starred Anthony Edwards and Mare Winningham. I thought it was an incredible movie. And I have never been able to find it anywhere.

Ok, I am watching A.I and then looking forward to the new E.R!

I'm having a bit of a crappy day. I wrote it all out here but erased it because I don't want to get anybody else down. I put a very brief status update on Myspace. Oh, it doesn't have anything to do with Custard, so don't worry about that.

DonnaJean I hope your appointment goes well and that you like the therapist.

There are so many movies that I love. I get hooked on "Jaws" everytime I come across it. "Space Odessey: 2001" was also breathtaking in the theater.

By the way, this blog inspired me to go get my favorite scene in the movie framed tonight at HobbyLobby. It's the promotional movie cover--the one with him in the rain. So good.

IBB had to work tonight!!

Dianne/Denver said...

Good Evening...thanks Amicus and Joey for the reminder last night about Idol tonight. I would have been so mad if I missed it tonight.

I love so many of the same movies you all do but not crazy about the SciFi movies. I like the cute romantic comendies and of courst my favorite, Wizard of Oz.

One movie that stands out to me is Message In a Bottle. My deceased husband and I went to see it and it was a tear jerker. After my husband passed away, a grief group I was going to recommended us to watch it. Well...it was a much different perspective at that point and I am not so sure I would suggest it to a group that had just lost spouses but it does make a person think and look at things a little different.

MEK: The big snow is in the mountains. We got about an inch or two and the streets have been dry most of the day. It's in the 30's and chilly but I have been out all day and no problems..except a filthy car! It is suppose to be 70 on the weekend...I love our weather!!

Interesting stories and blog today (as always) and fun to see what everyone likes...ok...time for Survivor and Idol!

Thanks, Joey, for the spoiler!

Favorite Movies? Impossible...too many faves, depending on the mood.

'Sleepless in Seattle', mostly because my alma mater--and many romantic memories---were within walking distance of the Lake Union houseboat.

'The Big Chill'---those were they days, my friend. Always a treat to see how telling the unpacking of suitcases at the beginning is, AFTER you've seen the movie at least once.

Foreign Film: 'A Man & A Woman'--talk about cinematography and a soundtrack!

Family/Feel Good: 'On Golden Pond' and 'Parenthood'.

History: 'Patton'

Musicals: South Pacific

Drama: Too many choices! Drawing a blank trying to remember the movie where the couple stops at a service station, wife is kidnapped, search drama ensues.....who can help?? I KNOW you movie buffs will tell me in no time. Thanks in advance!

SciFi/Special Effects: Sorry, hate 'em all.

Relatively Recent: The Notebook

Have a great night, everybody!

I too enjoy Star Wars, St Elmos Fire,
Fried Green Tomatoes, Love Actually Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing just to name a few that you guys mentioned

dr dan
Well its seems we have something in common, we have the same favorite movie. You knew! And I also love him in the rain, I was going to use that pic, however I wanted Red to be in the pic. So I choose one with the two of them in there.

JL, I LOVE your "tedious" thingy, so cool! hahaha!!

Hope everyone had a nice day. I was busy at work, but it was a good day and went by fast.

I also love Godfather (just the first one). We watched it the other night, my huz had never seen it! I was shocked.

Also like the first Jaws, wow that was so scary! There are a couple parts of that movie that to this day make my heart go fast and scare the you-know-what out of me.

I have to now dig out my old video of Shirley Valentine (I don't think you can get it on dvd). I haven't watched it in a long time, and it is a really good movie.

Survivor is on in 15 minutes! See you all tomorrow!

Hi, owls!

Andy Dufresne. Yep, one of Steven's best characters. And the one thing that sticks in mind the most, to me, is the Pacific Ocean. A place that holds no memories.

Love it! Such an interesting perspective on an ocean, don't you think?

Niters, Carol! And thanks for the nod to Steven! I'm one of his "faithful readers"!

Three films that I can watch over and over are Bridges of Madison County, West Side Story, and, strangely, The Ghost and Mrs Muir! Love love love Gene Tierney.

I was a horror movie addict as a child and teenager... couldn't get enough. Funny... I have absolutely no interest in them whatsoever anymore.

Just_Lin said...

Whabbear My favorite book is "The Stand". It's the only book that I ever read twice. The last time was years ago so I could probably read it and enjoy it a third time.

whabbear said...

LOL@Just Lin! Don't get me started on Steven books!

The Stand is one of my favorites too! I re-read it a couple of years ago, after devouring it when it was first published.

Over and above the nifty plotting in it (at least, in my opinion all the separate threads were nicely woven together), it's a total Dark Tower novel, probably the most DT'ish of all King's "non-DT" novels!

I LOVED it when Roland of Gilead was forced to confront, just once and quite briefly, the events in "The Stand"! He was quite uncomfortable with the whole topic, and quickly diverted conversation to something else.

Ka is a wheel... :)

Jennifer said...

Tina: I think I have seen all those on your list (and YES...LOVE Persuasion...all the Jane Austin movies)!

LynnD: I love Masterpiece theater too (always have)!

Bon'o: Love The Big Chill too! (I am a William Hurt fan all the way)!

You know, one of my favorite movies for the longest time was "The Four Seasons" with Alan Alda and Carol Burnett. I was ALWAYS a big fan of Carol Burnett (and it was so amazing to see her in a serious role)! That movie inspired my love for classical music (by playing "Vivaldi's Four seasons" throughout the movie). I remember seeing one of you (or more) having that movie on your Myspace page.

Tink: I'm like you...a movie nut! I also love the old black and whites (loved Katherine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart, etc.).

Jennifer said...

J/L and Whabbear:

I loved the movie the Stand too. (Never read the book, so I am sure it's even better than the movie as it is always the case)!

Jennifer said...

OK...since it is 11:00 PM here, I need to get some sleep. Thank god it's FRIDAY tomorrow!!!

Oh...another good movie that comes to mind is the Joy Luck Club! (I LOVE books by Amy Tann...)!

OK...I better stop while I'm on an even number! LOL! ; )

Just_Lin said...

Jennifer I hope you decide to read the book. The movie didn't do a horrible job but the book is much better as is usually the case, just like you said.

Gotta love Pink Floyd!!!
Oh you all have had me flashing back all night...
you have named soooo many good movies...
All the Star Wars ones.. I got see them with my litle brother...

The Green Mile--I think that is the hardest I cried over a movie!!!!

But if I just need to cry.. the last 5 minutes of "Officer and a Gentleman" will do just fine...
Reminds me of the girls all dating the Cadets at the Air Force Academy... I moved away before I was old enough to "date Cadets"!!!

But Zona you mentioned the theater effect of a film...
Now don't anyone laugh...
i think the best theater experience I ever had ... was.... Midnight movies..."The Rocky Horror Picture Show"...
This was an unforgetable experience... it is to hard to dicribe it all..... but people dressed up like the characters... audience participation was a big part of that movie...
WHAT A CLASSIC!!!

ibebold said...

DISCRIBE!!!!
Not dicribe

Bon'O said...

IBB~~Hey, girl. How was work? I own Rocky Horror, but you're right, there's nothing like going to the midnight show and throwing toast!! It's an annual pre-Halloween event here.

Jennifer~~Can't watch Four Seasons too many times!

ibebold said...

More movies...
EBJ-- I love "Saturday Night Fever"

I lived on an Aif Forcr whe nit came out... We (allthe kids on base) went to that movie every night for 2 weeks...
we 16-17 years old... the was 35 cents... popcorn and a soda were 50 cent...
we would sneek seagrams seven in , in our purses... so we would order 7-up and enjoy 7&7's during the movie...
That is what John Travolta's character drank!!!
I love any movie that has John Travolta is in..
"the generals daughter" was a little over the top ... but I just love Travolta...

ibebold said...

Hey Bono---
Work wasn't bad ... made a little money for shopping trip tomorrow...

Yes I own it also...

I love Sleepless in Seattle. It touches me every time I watch it. The intuition she gets that the person is right for her and the quest to meet him, the set backs..the classic movie references. It is perfect. It's about the ideal love and finding it. For me, that movie always brings me lots of yellow. :)
