Phobia's
PHOBIA’S
by Lynn D
I am calling this blog phobia because that is what I have when it comes to dentists. I am obsessing over this right now as you are reading this tale of woe. As I am either in the car or on my way to the oral surgeon or am right now in the chair as they prepare to dig out my last lone wisdom tooth and the one in front of it.
Let me say I come by this phobia in a true and honest manner. The first dentist I remember was when I was five. I don’t remember what was being done, (I think a filling as I have always had crappy teeth) but I do remember the dentist slapping me in the face. Seems very harsh to me as I am sure they were torturing me with drills and needles and all of their weapons of torture.
The second dentist was when I was a teen and get this, he did not believe in over using Novocain. What he really meant was he did not believe in using much if any. I had a crown on one tooth that kept popping off (he didn’t believe in using enough glue to bond either) and I would go in to have it fixed and he would yank and pull my gums back and push that damn crown back in place until my gums would bleed. Yep you guessed no Novocain.
There have been other nightmares over the years a root canal on an upper back tooth that by the time I got home my whole face on that side was so swollen that it was affecting the main nerve and it felt like a cattle prod was hitting me in the face. That one I had to go to the emergency room.
Now for today’s fresh torture, I have one wisdom tooth left in my head it is a lower back one. No dentist has wanted to touch it. I had one tell me they may have to break my jaw to get it out. The last oral surgeon that looked at it kept cautioning me about how close it is to the two main nerves in my face, well you get the picture. I did not walk from their offices I ran as fast as my damn legs would carry me.
I can’t put it off any longer. The stupid thing is on its side it never came in right and I can’t get a piece of floss back there to keep it clean. We have all known this was inevitable but went with the theory if it isn’t causing pain leave it alone. It is now just starting to cause pain and it has to go. It has even affected the tooth in front of it.
So I am having them out today. I don’t know what will happen and I am scared spit less. I have been in high anxiety since Sunday and it is escalating!!! I am no pain wimp I did natural childbirth and had no problems with that, but this is scaring the bejesus out of me!!
So say a prayer my Owls friends and any of you that are agnostic just send pain pills please!
What are your phobias??? I will try to read them if I make it home.

Yessss. Happy hunmp day Owls. Getting up early has some benefits...off to read the blog.
Oh Lynn, I am so sorry tht you have had such bad experiences with dentists. I worked as a dental assistant for the first 6 years out of high school and I know how traumatic it can be to have teeth extracted. I will pray that all goes well for you today.
Joey, did you go back to bed. I took a page out of your book and did 3 in a row...now 4
OK let's make it 5.
The subject is phobias and I have quite a few, but the one that bugs almost everyone I know is that I always ask for extra napkins when I go to a restaurant, because I won't put my utensils on a bare table. I have seen so many servers wipe the seats after who knows what's been on them, then wipe off the table, with the same rag, well ewwwww, especially after kids or babies have been on those seats. So I have to get the extra napkin for my lap, so I can keep the first one under the utensils. I know, I am weird, but you gotta love me anyway. Right????
Good morning~~
Oh my goodness, Lynn, I'm so sorry you have been through all those things about your teeth. Maybe it won't be too bad today. Sending painfree vibes to you.
sacbarb~~congratulations on #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. lol I agree with you about the germs in restaurants. When you think about it...nasty
I have to think about the phobias thing for a bit.
Congrats on first sacbarb!!
I'll read later...I just wanted to do a fly-by!
Happy Humpday!
Going to run errands and enjoy the warmer weather today!
P.S. One of my only phobias is the dentist also! lol
I think I have a few more..Will think about it!
Good morning SacBarb & Ronniegrl!
I haven't read the blog yet.
Sacbarb~ Too funny, I do the napking too! I'll be back.....
~~~~waving at Joey!
Joey, there you are!
Waving a wing at Mary and Ronnie.
Okay, I thought about it!!
I would say my biggest phobia is snakes. Hate them and scared to death of them. I know there are "good" and "bad" ones, but as far as I'm concerned...they're ALL bad.
When my son was four years old and playing in our backyard, he came running in screaming about a snake. I ran out there and he pointed to the wooden fense. Well here was this snake with his head standing up in the air like a balooned cobra. WTH!! I got a hoe and chopped his head off and called the zoo and described the thing and they said it was something native to Texas, called an spread-n-ater. I don't care what it's called, he's dead!!! I'm telling you, it scared the crap outta me.
Good morning Mary and Joey~~
Mary~I'm still holding your brother in my best thoughts and prayers today.
Ronniegrl!Did I say "napking"? LOL!!
Oh...non-poisonous...but who cares, he's DEAD!!
That would be...balloon.
I have to correct myself cause Joey's hanging around!!!
Napking, is good. lol
Lynn D, so many things that you write are me. I was always terrified of the dentist, even for a cleaning. My family and friends know how crazy I am about any dental procedure. I have gotten up in the middle of a cleaning and left (I swear this is true!).
I have found a dentist that always give me nitrous oxide and novocain. I had a tooth pulled last year and the dentist sent me to an oral surgeon who put me out. I had 3 children naturally and would rather have a baby than go to the dentist. Do you think this is a phobia? I never thought of it that way, which is making me laugh.
Great post LynnD!
Congrats on 1st sacbarb!
Good morning owls!
Please, if there are any PETA people here today, don't even bother telling me how bad I was, and all the good that snakes do....mmmkk?
The only "good snake", is a dead snake.
Okay, then....
congrats on 1st sacbarb
Good morning hooters!
Oh lynn~~~ I feel your pain. My biggest phobia is the dentist. I have had a lot of work and it never gets better, even though I have a wonderful,caring, sensitive dentist. Now. Not the case in my earlier days, but won't go into it.
I require Valium and laughing gas just to go get my teeth cleaned. I too can handle pain- 2 natural childbirths (what the hell was I thinking). But the sounds and smells of a dentist office can bring me to my knees.
My dentist does do a wonderful thing though. They have a bread maker in the waiting room, always going- so you smell fresh bread. And if you are the one done with the bread is- you take it home. For some reason, I always get to take the bread home.
My other phobia is bees. Have never been stung in my life- but scared to death of them.
Thanks ronnirgrl~ No one is more positive than my Brother. He is amazing!
Carol~ I am shocked at all the bad DDS treatments you have had! I got nervous when I had a crown put in, an my DDS gave me something to relax me. I am lucky in that he is someone that I went to school with. Sweet guy. I will send up super prayers for you!
I have a phobia of germs in hotels. Mr Mary loves to tell people how I always disinfect our entire room in Vegas I always take Lysol wipes. I especially do the toilet handle all doorknobs and the most important.. the remote! I always imagine this nasty snotty nosed man in bed scratching his ass and pushing the remote thinggy eeeuuuuwwww!!
Sorry if I grossed anybody out before breakfast LOL!!!
G'morning grandma moses.
Smile and show us your pearly-whites.
Mornin' Goldie~~
GM- I have left during procedures too!
25!
Mary, the hotel germ thing made me think. I'm concerned with the germs there too. Have you ever seen the 'Dateline' thing about germs in public places? OMG
ronniegirl, good morning to you too!
goldie, isn't it amazing how we can leave? After I left during the cleaning, the dentist called me a few days later and told me not to be embarrassed and I could always go back. Excuse me???? I told him that he should be embarrassed!!
LOl@Mary- too much visual! But in hotels the first thing I do is peel off the bedspread. No sitting on that thing!Ick- oh, and I always ask for a fresh laundered blanket too. The place we stay when we visit our son in MN knows me well enought that when we check in, the girl says "I'll have a fresh blanket brought up to you".
Hi ronnie, and mary, joey, gm and of course sacbarb!
ronniegirl, I hope I never see Dateline exposing germs in hotels. I don't want to have another phobia. I don't even want to know what horrible disease I can get from a bedspread!! LOL
Good Morning All!!
LYNND: Oh man..I am so sorry you have to go through this. I haven't been a fan of the dentist since I was 7 and bit one. Yup! He screamed and threw the whole family out. I mean really, my teeth were seven years old..how much damage could I really have done??
We have a really nice, gentle dentist now. I still don't want to go. He uses sonic waves to clean our teeth. Still don't want to go. I haven't had a cavity in a couple years..nope..can I stay home?? Even as I write this..I can SMELL the dentist's office. It has a particular smell...maybe it's fear??
Lots of good positive wishes headed your way LYNND. Prayers too.
Off to read the posts...
SACBARB: WOW!! Congrats on ONE through FIVE!!! Have you ever gotten silverware that is dirty in a restaurant?? Makes you question everything else they bring you!
RGIRL: HATE snakes!!! Woke up with a diamondback rattler under my cot in Rocky Point..I jumped 10 feet from a prone position...this while everyone was whispering "Don't move..." yea, right.
GOLDIE: I do some real fancy footwork when there are bees around!! I'm asthmatic, and though I've never been stung..I don't want to find out afterward that I'm allergic to them.
MARY/MI: LOL!! I always hand out the Wet Wipes when we leave the store!!
Waving Hi to JOEY and GMOSES!!
BIRDEE: Your prank yesterday..too funny!
JODI: Thank you!! SWAK!
MEK: Waiting for a good sofa delivery report!
Oh lynn.....I'm in pain for you today. Your blog is what makes me want to go up and smack some doctors. Some doctors just have no sympathy for people's pain. They look at things in such a scientific manner that they lose all compassion. Most likely at the young age of 5 you didn't tell your parents that he slapped you. And even if you did, no one did anything about bad doctors when we were younger. You have every right to be nervous, or scared shitless today. I hope your oral surgeon had the foresight to give you a nice valium before you went in this morning.
I will be thinking of you today, and NOT expecting you to come back and read any of this until tomorrow. You need to go home and go directly to bed!
As for my phobia's....Who knows. Things make me nervous. But I do them anyway. I would hold a snake or a big ol hairy spider, I just wouldn't really like it. I'm scared of sharks, and I can't stand clowns. I guess you could say I have fears of drowning and burning. But I will go out in the ocean and snorkle even though I don't like sharks and don't want to drown! I won't stand in the middle of the campfire though. You know, the whole, "I don't want to catch fire." thing....
Congrats on 1st today sacbarb!
and 2nd, and 3rd and 4th and 5th!!!!
Good morning everyone!
Congrats on 1st SacBarb!
Lynn D this is an interesting topic, however I'm not sure if I can share my phobia or not so I will think about it some more. Best of luck today.
We had one dentist in our town when I was growing up. His "bedside" manner towards kids was nonexistent. While drilling a tooth the drill slipped and hit my tongue. Kids could be heard screaming while you sat waiting for your turn to come up. My sister even bit his hand once. She was told never to come back. She didn't. In my experience the waiting to go to the dentist is always worse than the actual visit. You do, however need to find a dentist that is sympathetic to your fear.
Breakfast
Mary: LMAO @ snoty nosed man scratching his ass and pushing the remote. I wipe everything down in Hotels too. I did see the Dateline piece on germs in hotels and I even take my own glass to use unless they have plastic ones that are wrapped. I also carry toilet seat covers when I travel...oh, I could go on, but I will spare you all the details.
Hello Grandma Moses, Goldie and Zona.
LOL Ronnie~ I won't tell PETA what you did!
Carol, I forgot to say good morning to you. I hope you are well today and that your Dad is doing well also.
I must still be asleep! I thought it was Carol who wrote todays blog! I'm awake now! Carol you will not have tooth trouble today thanks to my prayers LOL!!
TOP FORTY!!!
I'm getting good at this!!!
LOL
Shirley: Thanks for Breakfast. I will try the apple cinnamon pancakes. Sounds yummo. The flowers are a nice touch, too.
Zona: Yes I have gotten dirty silverware. I usually steal one from another table. I never complain to the wait staff. I know how they hate that and I don't want them to spit in my food. I also NEVER send anything back no matter what. I know too many people in food service and have heard too many stories.
Hi Barb WA.
MEK: From AREA 51..we got to 99 yesterday..a cold front is moving in..so we should only get to 93 today!!! LMAO!!!
BARB/WA: Oh my..if things that made me nervous WERE phobias..I'd never move!! LOL!
HI SHIRLEY!
My phobia....heights...and I don't know why.
SACBARB: I do and don't want to know those stories! ;)
FYI
Just so everyone knows, my breakfasts are always served with sterilized silverware, plates, bowls, cups and glasses. All linen napkins and tablecloths are washed, dried and ironed daily.
Happy WEdnesday!!!
Good morning..
Before I read the comments - I am going to write my phobia and a response to Lynn's Blog - (I don't want to be swayed!!!LOL)
Lynn- I have ALWAYS NOT liked going to the dentist - because of that - I let ONE tooth get SO infected that the root canal was the ONLY way to relieve the pain - I LOVED that root canal - LOL the dentist said it was SO infected that he couldn't get ALL of the poison out in one visit - so he put a temp crown on it - well - before the day was over - he had to remove that crown and I had to let the "poison" drain out - it was THEE most nasty tasting stuff I have EVER experienced - I had NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED to have a procedure completed!!!
AND - I had all four wisdom teeth surgically removed at the same time - when my mother picked me up and took me to her house - her neighbors thought that I had been severely beaten - my face was SO swollen and black and blue!!
Okay - those are my "memorible" dentist trips!!!
:-)
NOW - MY WORST phobia is SNAKES - just thinking about them, just writing the word just makes my palms sweat and a feeling comes over me that I can NOT explain..
I can NOT hold a newspaper or magazine with a snake picture in it.. I just about shit my pants when my sister posted that picture of the "visitor" in her backyard!!
AND - I live in an area where they are OUT THERE everywhere!! Luckily, I have only seen TWO live snakes out and about in the almost 8 years I have lived here! One was on the golf course stretched across the cart path sunning itself. THe other was just recently over in my mother's community...... SO -
SO - I am DEATHLY ascared (yes, I know that is NOT a word) of snakes!!
I am on furniture watch - awaiting my phone call for my "window" - cross your fingers...
AND - Lynn - I am praying that your dentist appt goes well !!! hugs to you...
I hope everyone has an excellent day... I'm off to read the comments now!!!
:-)
SacBarb - congrats on FIRST - you sure were up early!! LOL - In Joey fashion - you were TOP FIVE!!!
SacBarb - I feel the SAME way after watching kids wipe off tables - you are NOT alone!!!
Joey - have fun running your errands!!
Mary in Mich - good morning!!!
Ronnie - EXACTLY - I don't care WHAT kind of snake it was - it was DEAD --- but - it is illegal to kill a rattlesnake here - you MUST call Rural Metro and have them remove it - they, then, take it a mile away and re-release it!!! GREAT!!!!!!!! and don't worry about your spelling - I knew EXACTLY what you were saying!! and when it comes to snakes - who can spell when you are thinking about the damn things........ YIKES
Good Morning, Grandma Moses
Goldie - I can do a GREAT immitation of the dentist vacuum/sucky thing!! :-) AND - I hate bees also!! I have never been stung - but just the thought is scary enough!!
Mary - LMAO at the vision I have of you in a hotel room!! BUT- I totally agree!! They say the comforter in a hotel room carries THE most germs - SO I NEVER lay on that thing!!
Barb in WA - You are SO cute - I would hope that you would NOT stand in the middle of a campfire!!
AND - I will NOT go in an ocean - there are TOO many things swimming around in there that would enjoy me for lunch!!!
Zona - I would have had a heart attack and been DEAD if there was a diamond back in my sleeping bag - WELL, first of all - I don't camp because that could happen -SOOOO
AND - I can't buy any AZ Diamondback apparell, cuz it all has snakes on it!!!
I better "send" this - I am getting too long and there is alot more to comment on...
SO - In Medium fashion of last -
TO BE CONTINUED..
Shirley - thanks for breakfast.
Zona - YES, we are getting a "cold front" also and will only hit 92 - I LMAO when they talk of COLD!!!
SacBarb - I will NEVER return anything to the kitchen when I eat out either!! OMG - I have been told TOO much about what goes on - and I am ALWAYS so sickening sweet to my server - so that they will NEVER spit in anything that I get!!
Okay - I think I have touched on a little bit of everything..
It's almost FIFTY time..
I appreciate everyone that voted last night -
I'm crossing fingers that Jason or Brooke go home - but would LOVE a shocker sending our "Little David" home - but I know that won't happen!! but a girl can dream!!
47
48
49
50
Okay - my day is complete so far!!
LOL
I'm off to actually eat breakfast!!
MEK: Luckily it wasn't IN the sleeping bag...I was laying on a lounge chair and the dang thing was coiled..yes COILED right under the chair!! And they said not to move!!! HA!!!
Way to go MEK on 50!
Please, no sound effects...ewwww
Wait- Shirley IRONS the linen???? What a woman- cooks us breakfast and irons the linens too. Shirley I have a spare room if you are eveer interested......lol
that was EVER interested. Geez, my fingers are not listening to my brain again today
Good Morning Owls!
Have any of you seen the Andrew Johnston video from the show, Britain's Got Talent?
WOW!!!
He's only 13 years old, and he could already do a duet with Sarah Brightman. I get teary-eyed every time I watch it. He's amazing!
Here's the link if you haven't seen it:
Andrew Johnston - Pie Jesu
Hey MEK, did you get the word that QVC is having 7 hours of Scrapbooking stuff on Friday. I don't know what time it starts tho.
Hi MEK! I really don't have many phobias, but I do not like dead mice. It may seem silly. but at least the live ones leave. The dead ones, well... just lay there dead until you move them!!!!
Many years ago I lost a friend. He was driving his truck when a bee bit him on his neck.His neck swelled up and he died. He never mentioned being allergic to bees, so I don't think he even knew.
My hubby has to keep the epinephrine kit on hand as he has swelling problems. Unfortunately not where I would prefer it LOL!!!
Lynn,
I feel for you, because I'm terrified of the dentist too. I was very fortunate to have not had any traumatic experiences as a kid, because I never needed any work done other than routine cleanings.
That all changed when I turned 18 though and had to have my first cavity filled plus 4 wisdom teeth removed. The bottom 2 were still under the gums so they had to be cut out.
That did it for me! Now, I wish I could be knocked out for every dental procedure, even teeth cleaning.
Big {{HUGS}}
Good morning, owls!
Shirley: Still waiting for you to share... :)
Phobias: Don't really have any big ones!
Well, this was a pretty boring post! LOL!
Amicus: Thanks for posting that link. That was AMAZING (for MEK & EBJ). I teared up a little too.
Hey Bear, I hope you are feeling better today after your procedure yesterday.
Goldie I didn't say I ironed them, I just said they were ironed.
Whabby~ Not boring, you got a big chuckle out of me !!
Whabby ~I'm glad you are vigilant with you skin. Sorry about your owies!
Does this mean less tennis in the future?
I am home and in lots of pain. I will check back in a bit and try to read. I must go lay down now!
(((Hugs))) to all!
Happy Hump Day Owls! Geesh, I was about to address some individual posts, but watched Amicus' video of Andrew. Think I'll stop crying and have some late breakfast first (now that I know how clean and sanitary everything is...Shirley, you ROCK!). Amicus, thanks for sharing that.
69
WOW, Amicus - I was bawling before the young man even sang ONE note - he was AMAZING - reminds me of the opera guy that won it last time - no self confidence but AMAZING talent !!! WOW....... thank you for sharing that video clip with us- I had not even heard of this young man before today...
Bono you got 69er!!
Good Morning/Afternoon Everyone!
LynnD, Ouch!! Sorry you have to go through such a ordeal with the DDS.
Wish I could go with ya and give him a swift kick in the ass for ya!
My dentist is good, but the girl that cleans my teeth is a real gem. She knows all about me and my anxiety. She always does her best to put me at ease and handle me with care. I just love her! I have one tooth in back, tht no matter what I do, still causes me some discomfort. This girl goes out of her way to handle that area very gently!
(((((((((hugs))))))))) lynn!
Snake's!!! Hate 'em!
Spider's, Hate 'em!
Frog's, Hate 'em!
Bee's, Hate 'em!
Ant's, Hate 'em!
Fly's, Hate 'em
Mosquitoes, Hate 'em!!
Germ's, Hate 'em!
I even have to "inspect" my food when eating out! Especially if I order something that may have meat in it. I'm really not a meat eater, but if that's what my choices are, I will at least try some of it. But, I have to look it over before the first bite and I always pick it apart! Been like that forever!
Mary, ((((((((HUGS))))))) for you and your brother!
Tink!!! Miss you! Feel better soon! (((((((((((HUGS))))))))
Sacbarb, Congrats on being First, second, third, fouth and Fifth!!!
I tried to be here early, but my comp is locking up on me and taking forever to open to the pages! I think it's my server Again!
Off to dry my hair..will try to catch you all later!
Thanks again for liking my little Prank on Carol! Wonder is she is hesitant about answering her phone today!!????
I dedicate that last accidental 'score' to Turtle! And, Whab, if you're still here...heal well and PLEASE be careful. SPF30+
Lynnd so glad you made it through the procedure! Rest rest rest!!!
Thanks for checking in.
I'm off to the little city (Ionia). Later....
Oh - now - I am having trouble reading the other posts...
SacBarb - you are damn straight that I am aware of QVC on Friday - sadly, National Scrapbooking day is on SATURDAY and several people are wondering WHY they are doing their thing on Friday!!! there is a show in the early am and other in the afternoon!! :-)
Lynn - glad you are home - hope you doing well....
Bono - same here - can't see from the tears...
Whabby - LOL at your boring post!!
AND - I can guarantee that sheets will NOT be ironed when someone visits me!! LOL
Holy crapola. LynnD you have really come across some horrible dentists. When I was a child my parents took me to a dentist that specialized in working with young children. No child or adult likes to see needles coming straight to their mouths.Dentists should be gentle at all times and most are and most are compassionate that I have met.
I had wisdom teeth that came in sideways. One of them had a nerve wrapped around the root. The oral surgeon put me to sleep and cut it into pieces so as not to damage the nerve. The only scary experience is that I was scheduled to have oral surgery with one surgeon and the night before I was out with friends and I saw this oral surgeon so drunk as a skunk that he was being carried out of the night club by his two buddies. Needless to say I canceled surgery with him and scheduled with a different surgeon.
Thanks birdee :-)
SHIRLEY
Thanks for breakfast. Banana pancakes for me.
Okay, now I am off for an hour long massage and see my Chiropracter. I'm taking my furbaby over to vist with the grandparents for the afternoon.
OMG, The View is on, and I swear EVERYTHING reminds me of "y'all" lately. They're discussing last night's IDOL and Paula's 'moment' and how they must take notes during rehearsals in case they have nothing to say. Joy Behar then asked how tough can it be? All Randy ever says is "Dude","Dawg", etc. And she called him TEDIOUS!! Almost did an oatmeal & blueberries spit-take!
ROFLMAO@Bono!!
Amicus, that kid is amazing..I found it yesterday and forgot to link y'all!:( Thanks for doing it haha
Have you seen the cute toddler that sings the Beatles?lol
TODDLER
Bono - I am also watching the View and I'm not enjoying this at all..
Yes, Joy just said they are giving her a headache and I totally agree!!
get on with the Daytime Emmy nominations........
Zona - my newspaper says that ya'll hit ONE HUNDRED yesterday!!
YIKES.......
SACBARB: NOOOOOOOO!!! No QVC...I've been so good!! ;)
MARY/MI: Picking up any dead critter...shudder...
AMICUS: If I have to go into the dentist for anything more than a filling..I get knocked out. I would have sworn you still had your wisdom teeth!! :) I am the ONLY ONE in my family that never had any...and boy did they tease me!!
WHABBEAR: Do you have any ummmmm...little phobias??? ;)
BIRDIE: You are an absolute gem!! :)
BON'O: Please don't cry....you got 69! ;)
MEK: Please...no tears...think Michaels!! :)
MEK: REALLY?? Dang and I thought it was a cool 99!! LOL!
Just a quick post to change my clothes!!!
Zona - Yes, I have THREE fifty percent off coupons!! AND - I'm sure that during the QVC hours that I probably own everything that they are selling - even though there are supposed to be some new things!!
Too bad that you, SacBarb and myself can't watch together!! we could get some scrapping done also!!
Ok......I wouldn't want anyone to think that I actually ENJOY showing the girls off!!! LOL!!
Quick - cover your eyes, Jodi is about to expose the GIRLS!!
LMOA - too late Jodi - I already went there!!!
YES - everybody else must have gone into hiding!!!
:-)
MEK & BON'O: Ok..I watched it and I'm tearing up too..thank you AMICUS..:)
Jodi - if you hadn't had your shirt over your head - you could have won that march!!
HI JODI!!
MEK: and she slowly gets 100!! LOL!
Ok I have tried four times to write and post this comment. It's hard for me because I know how much you all care about your pets and I don't want you to hate me. My phobia is of animals. All animals, but espcially cats. I don't want them harmed or anything...I just can't be around them. I usually tell people I am allergic. They except that easier than the fact that I am afraid of them. I can't even walk over cat prints in the snow. I know how much your furbabies mean to you so I hope I'm not kicked out of the nest. I did leave breakfast and flowers this morning. Ok I'm going to post this time...here I go...
Bon'O: I had the same reaction when I heard Joy say 'tedious.' LOL I knew when Paula screwed up last night that it would be on all the talk shows today.
MEK: I don't iron sheets either. Isn't that why they invented permanent press?
Hi: Birdee
Shirley - I am sorry that you felt you could NOT post that in the nest - I don't think anyone here will hold that against you -
When I walk my dogs - I make sure that they HEEL, cuz some people are afraid of BIG dogs and I totally understand that......
SO - all I can say is - thanks for sharing!!! and it's OKAY!!!
shirley....it's good that you posted your comment. most people have something they fear, except our fearless whabbear! so it's all good. i'm not particularly fond of certain animals, but some people love them more than their own family~!
ZONA~~~~;o) ;D~
MEK~~The ONLY reason I was watching The View was for the nominations....still waiting. I just can't watch that yammering any more.
and p.s. MEK~~Before I got all teary, was planning to thank you for putting the 'WE' in WEdnesday (just in case you thought no-one noticed). :o)
and just saw your post, Shirley. It IS ok.....we all have that 'something' that others might not 'get'. Isn't that why we love this place?
Bono - I had to go back and look - LOL - that really was a typo - LMAO!!! but WEEEEEEEEE...
They are just getting started on the nominations - can't believe that Starr from OLTL didn't get a nod - oh well!!!!!
Back to The View...
and as soon as that is over - I'm calling the manager to find out WHEN my window will be!!! OH - this is a nightmare!!!
Shirley: I'm sorry you thought we wouldn't understand your phobia. Isn't that what the 'nest' is all about? No judging, no drama and a safe place to admit our fears? We still love you.
MEK: You go girl
My inter has been caterwonky today...and last night... missed watching Idol wit hyou all...
so dropping in quick to say hi before it goes out again...
phobias.. more later on that .. if I keep internet..
Sacbarb-- congratson 1st!!!!!!!
hope i am back real soon..
Barbara, Mek and Bon'o thanks. I am glad I finally shared that. And thanks Mek for doing that with your dog when you go for a walk. A lot of people don't.
I meant--INTERNET has been...
lol @ MEK!!! You must have RUN to 100 when I was changing my shirt!!!
ZONA - Did you say anything about grasshoppers? Sorry......just sayin'!!
My Mom had crappy teeth and my Dad has crappy gums......so I got the gums. I have been through a root planing, and boy, they had to split that one up into 2 visits. Had to numb my entire mouth. All I can say it is not pleasant having about 20 shots in your mouth before they have to do the procedure.
SHIRLEY - I feel your pain. I had a couple really bad experiences with cats when I was little. I just tell people I'm not a cat person. No shame here - and thanks for sharing. No judging here, either. :)
Thanks Sacbarb.
BARBARA IN WA
OMG, I just read that you have a fear of clowns. Doctor Dan was punking a bunch of us with a fake fear of clowns April 4 so I made a default of an evil clown. So sorry about that.
Okay, now gotta run. It's almost 1:00.
My phobia: Being near the edge of high places. I have no fear of height, but first realized I have problems with being 'on the edge' when I found myself clinging to the building on the Observation Deck of the Empire State Building and The Space Needle. I can't handle being on the lanai of a hotel room if I'm above about the tenth floor.
It's only caused a major panic attack once, but the timing couldn't have been worse! I was driving the 'long and winding' two-lane road (one each direction) up to Sunrise Visitor Center on Mt. Rainier, with two kids in the backseat . Suddenly I realized there was no shoulder, no guardrail, and nothing but an 80-degree drop-off out the passenger side window and an equally steep rise to the left...no viewpoint pull-outs to turn around. My knuckles were white on the steering wheel and I was incapable of going over 5 miles per hour. I was literally shaking and sick when we got to the parking lot at the top. I'd probably still be there if it were not for the consolation of knowing I could hug the cliff on the way down, never once letting my eyes veer to the left to see the 100's of miles of gorgeous scenery visible from that height.
MEK~~I thought the 'WE' was on purpose and I loved it....like putting the FUN in dysFUNctional!
Ouch, JODI~~Been there, done that with deep root planing. Upper right quadrant took 22 shots! My eyball was numb for hours, but the nerves in my gums, NOT.
Thanks Jodi I appreciate that.
SacBarb Congrats on the first 5 today.
Lynn D OMG! I am so glad you are home now and the trauma is behind you. I completely understand your feelings about the dentist. I also had bad experiences as a child. I've always had trouble with my teeth and as a kid, the dentist didn't believe me when I said I wasn't numb. I had so many cavities to fill that it took more than one visit. The second visit, they had to pry my hands off the doorjamb in order to get me to go in there.
I have a good dentist now, but I still delay going when I should. I'm procrastinating right now, to be honest. I still have a fear of dentists and always will.
I started taking my kids to a pediatric dentist when they were little. That was a great move. Neither of them ever even knew that they were getting shots! Amazing, as that is the thing that I really hate, getting shots in the mouth. I used to get gas even for routine cleanings. I stopped doing that because I felt I was a "big girl now" but based on my current procrastination, I may want to rethink that idea.
Ok...this is weird..my dentist just called to schedule our 6 month check-up and cleaning. I told the receptionist I'd call back.
Bono - okay - I will pretend like I did it on purpose - LOL
AND - thanks for sharing your story - I would have crapped my pants!!!
:-)
OKay - my couch is apparently on the truck - they are still putting a couple orders on and for right now - estimated time is between 2-3 - but I should get a phone call as soon as the truck leaves the lot!!!
CROSSING MY FINGERS!!!!!!
Zona - they must have read the blog!! LOL
125
mary/mi I know that no phobia is funny, but I don't understand why you find a dead mouse scarier than a live one. You'd think it would be the other way around.
I don't have any phobias about anything living but if there is a spider in the house, I feel compelled to kill it. Not the Daddy Long-legs type so much, as they are so slow moving and just seem to hang out in one place.
The vet hospital where I work, has doctors who see exotic animals. The largest snake we saw was a 16 foot albino python. It was so large it had to be examined out on the lawn. That was quite a sight!
MEK: CROSSING MY TOES!!!! :)
HI J/LIN! 16..foot.....PYTHON!!??
Just_Lin..My hair feels like it is standing on end.. my head is all tingley thinking about a 16 foot snake... OMG!!!!!!!!
gives me chills...
LynnD-- glad you are home .. rest...I HATE a dentist too.. i have SOFT teeeth..they break on bread crust!!
nuf said..
MEK .. hope you get couch... SOON..
dreama....
it's not so much a fear of clowns, i just think they are creepy and ugly. they give me the shivers sometimes. i think it has to do with john wayne gacy.
HI IBB..I once broke a tooth on a noodle...no kidding..
ZONA~~Sorry...lol. Can you say 'al dente'?
Lynn - my vet has warned me that if I see someone in the waiting room with a "pillow case" to be forewarned - he sees EVERYTHING in his office!!
Inside Edition just did the story on the young British boy and I'm crying all over again!!!!!! Gosh!!! and his eyes are SO sad - I hope this gives this young man hope!!!
IBB - hey there!!!
:-)
Shirley- not going to get any judging from me. A phobia is a phobia. I don't think you are any less entitled to yours then I am to mine. So having my own furbaby does not make me feel the least bit upset with you about it.
What? No jodi boobies to look at this afternoon? How will I get thru the day? LOL
Good luck with that couch MEK!!
MEK The large python traveled in a large duffle bag so keep your eyes open for those, too.
Zona One afternoon I was looking at my backyard fence and it seemed to be moving along the bottom. Then I realized it was my neighbor's python! I was not happy to see it out, as you can imagine, because I have cats. It was only about 8 ft or so.
MEK: 'Your couch is on the truck'... isn't that what they said on Saturday? Kinda like 'the check is in the nmail.'
Okay - all this talk about snakes is making me SICK>.....
while I was eating my lunch - I saw something move on my back porch - it was one of our friendly lizards - NOW - I have never liked crawly things, but I am used to the lizards, and just pray that they never scurry across my feet while I am out there!!
Zona - AND - whether you were in a sleeping bag OR the lounge chair - i would have shit my pants AND had a heart attack!!!!!!!!
SacBarb - YES, that is exactly what I was told on Saturday - SO, I had to chuckle - BUT - the manager has ASSURED me that he spoke to the warehouse manager and I am the fourth delivery of the day!!! LOL
That is why I am still not 100 percent sure that I will actually Get my couch today!!!
:-)
AND - Bono - I LIKE that we'll call WEdnesday - OUR "WE" day - AMAZING what fun a little typo can do!!!
J/LIN: Oh geez...I just walked eight big steps.."only 8 feet"...I don't think that's too comforting...
One more post before I watch my soap operas!!
I can't believe AMC is bringing Dixie back as a ghost - I was REALLY hoping that Zach had been hiding her somewhere!! oh well...
okay - we need to get Erica out of solitary!!
BON'O: al Oucho...;)
Shirley I just caught up on my reading and although I am a cat person, I certainly don't hold it against you that you aren't. To each his (or her) own. It's all fine. We always had cats when I was growing up so I feel very comfortable with them. :)
My phone just rang - I got SOOOO excited - cuz I thought it was the furniture store- it was MR. MEK asking if the couch has been delivered!!!
SO - we had a good laugh about this -
I told him about SacBarb's "the check is the mail" - so we've decided that the couch will ALWAYS be ON the truck!!
okay - back to Phobia's!!!
MEK: AMC only got one nomination for David Canary. I am surprised. I thought for sure Thorston Kaye would get one.
Days got quite a few individual nods but the show didn't get nominated.
****PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT****
Attention Ice Cream Fans &/or Bargain Shoppers:
Just saw a commercial during noon news. Nationwide, Baskin-Robbins is having 31-Cent Scoop Night to honor Firefighters 5-10pm local time (up to 10 scoops). Here's a link:
http://www.baskinrobbins.com/Promotion/31cent.aspx
OH Dear Lord.
THe new M&M commercial is an advertisement for the New Indiana Jones movie and it has several SNAKES in it and the M&M says "I hate snakes" -
LIKE - NO KIDDING!!!!
Good lordy!!!!!!!! I also can NOT watch snakes on TV - OMG!!!
Crap - I have NO idea where there is a Baskin Robbins around here
ZONA: When you said there was a Diamond Back in your sleeping bag or under your cot...I thought you meant one of the baseball players was sleeping with you and I didn't get why you were complaining!!!
SHIRLEY: I also am afraid of cats. They always seem to come close to me and want to sit on my lap and I am too scared. I have been since a child. My BIG phobia though are mice..dead or alive..especially alive. I am so scared of them and if I saw one in my house I would have to leave until it was caught...you would think that would make me like cats to keep those mice away! SHIRLEY: I didn't think YOU did the actual ironing, isn't that what the maid does for you or is it the butler? It's a good thing you have help as it sounds like a few of the owls are planning on either living with you or moving you to their place. Remember, I "called it first".
LYNN: I am glad you are home from the awful dentist. "In my day" they put me in the hospital to take out wisdom teeth..much easier but now they barely let you stay in the hospital to have a baby!
MARY/MI: good thoughts to your family and Joe this week. I hope he recovers very soon.
Boy, Paula is all over the internet and tv today. I like Brooke on AI. Ok, I know I am the only one that likes her except the people that vote for her and I think she or Jason will be going tonight. I don't think she should be the AI (I also think it should be David Cook) but I think she just has great talent when she is singing and playing that piano..JMHO! I am hoping that Derek and (I forget her name) on DWTS are a true couple. I think they look so cute together.
MEK: I have my fingers crossed for you to get the couch soon. You will probably never want to buy another piece of furniture. Did you ever find that money from BARB/WA in the old couch. The way she talked I thought it would be hundreds! BTW MEK, please don't bring that hot weather to Colorado this summer!
BONO: Thanks for the reminder about Baskin Robbins. I wonder if I will be able to drive with my 10 scoop cone! Yum
150
MEK: Ask Ms. Garmin!!
DIANNE: I was only 15...;)
Just Lin - congrats on 150!! Good job..
SacBarb - with the way AMC is evolving - it's a wonder they got ONE nomination!! But I was also surprised that Zach didn't get one - but then again - all we ever see is Zach/Kendall/Greenlee/Ryan!!
AND OLTL is making a trainwreck out of Antonio - and everything else is also painful to watch..
Okay - the phone call JUST came - my window is 1:30pm. to 3:30pm,
OMG - I just may get a new couch today!!!!
MEK Whoo hoo!! I hope we see an avatar of the new couch with you sitting on it!
BonO I don't like being near the edge at high places, but mostly if there are no guard rails. Have you seen the skywalk over the Grand Canyon? OMG! It juts out over the canyon and has a glass floor. There is no way I would walk out there. I don't know how to hyperlink but you can look at the gallery of photos at Grandcanyonskywalk.com.
J/L~~Yes I have seen it (on TV) and I think I could handle it, no problem, if I looked down through the center. Outside edge...NO WAY!
Wooo HOOOOOO!!!!! Nothing like a power nap to make you ready for a march!!!
I have a phobia that HOdi will march over me and I'll be smothered by her "girls". LOL
Hey there Jodi! *Wing-flapping*
JustLin~~Here's the real deal (feel like I should be lying on some shrink's couch for this). It's not a fear of falling. It's just that when I'm at the edge, my brain does this split-second "What if I jumped?" visual. I am NOT in any way a suicidal person, so it scares the HELL out of me that the thought even enters my head. Afraid to stay there and feed that thought. Does that make ANY kind of sense?
BonO Perfect sense! I know exactly what you mean. I get afraid that somehow, inexplicably, I will topple over the edge. Gives me the creeps to think about it.
JUST LIN - Good grief!!! You'd think I was a DD cup or something!!! I just don't think they look too bad for "milkin'" 3 kids. lmfao!!!
MEK - Sounds like it maybe really is "on the truck"!!! Congrats!!!
AMICUS - Thank you so much for sharing the link for Andrew Johnston!!! What a beautiful voice, and I'm with MEK.....started crying BEFORE he started singing!! I had the same reaction with little Connie from last year.
I'm off to work now. I'll check back in later.
LynnD, happy you are home and healing.
Shirley, I think that is a common fear. It was great you got over the fear of writing it!
Amicus, ty for the link!
Whabbear, you are in denial!
Hi Jodi! Not commenting one thing about you milking. But isn't Spotted Cow one of your favorite things????
Leaving work to go home and take care of poor Mr. Goldie. Hurt his back and is in a vicodin haze and on ice packs. Actually he has been since Monday morning and I have decided that I like being the patient better then the nurse!
Do we have a couch yet MEK?
Bono and Just Lin - I think I am afraid that someone will actually PUSH me over the edge!! how's that for being paranoid!!!
Jodi - thanks for the phone call - now, back to trying to nap so that the doorbell will actually ring..
Bono - you could lay on MY couch if it ever arrives!!!
:-)
Goldie - so sorry that Mr. Goldie is not feeling well..
and in answer to your question is:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO - not yet (praying that YET is the operative word there)..
I know exactly when my couch will arrive -
during the march to 200!!!
Has anyone heard from Tina and how her doctor appt went??!!
I have forwarded the OFFICIAL QVC scrapbooking email to several people - I LOVE to enable!!!
AND - I don't think that I would want to walk out on that walk thing in the Grand Canyon either.. knowing my luck the whole thing would break off the minute I stepped on it!!!
YIKES
Jodi - are you fixing dinner??!!
What is everyone going to have??
LOL - NOW - THIS is tedious!!
Someone HAS to be out there with me...
IBB - did you survive your craft room today??!!
SacBarb, BonO, MEK, Zona, Jodi, Grandma Moses: You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video too. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. :) His voice is so beautiful! I would love to hear him sing the whole song.
Joey: That video of the toddler is so cute! I was cracking up laughing at how he would sing the words and then move in close to the mic. He hasn't quite mastered that timing yet. LOL!
Zona: Lucky you! I'm not even sure what purpose wisdom teeth serve, other than to cause lots of pain when they have to be removed. ;)
Lynn: Speaking of pain, more HUGS for you!
Goldie: Sending a feel better prayer for Mr. Goldie.
