Sleep does come!

This cracked me up!

i am very sleepy tonight, i always
write the blogs the night before
so i have them ready to post in
the morning

so my thoughts are really with
my bed and my pillow, just the
thought of getting comfy, makes
me happy

i do need a little help to sleep tho
so i take my ambien and off i go

when i was younger sleep always
came on its own, and now my sleep
needs help, when i asked the doctor
"why does our sleeping patterns change?"
she told me as we get older more
is on our minds, and there are times
that we can't shut it down

i also have a problem sleeping out
when i am in a different house if
it were not for ambien i would not
sleep, i guess its the change and the
thought of not going to sleep that makes
me anxious

so now i think i am addicted to
ambien, and i don't think i really
care, as it gives me my much needed sleep
at days end, and who can argue with that

i feel that i rambled on, and not really
sure what i have written, i do know that
the words flowed, so this blog was to be

:O)

Good Morning,,

Lynn - congrats on first!!

I'm off to read the blog!!

Tinkatia said...

Good Morning Mek. I saw the post go up this morning and didn't realize I wasn't signed in. It wasn't meant to be my morning. You just missed too.

Tinkatia said...

Now I will read the post and enjoy my orange juice.

I meant to say 'blog'. Maybe I am not awake yet this morning.

Morning Glories!

Hi Tinka and MEK

Oh that elusive sleep!

My sleep patterns change so much it seems I never feel rested.

Lately it seems I have been having pretty vivid dreams that I remember snatches of and leave me feeling uneasy so again that rested just fresh feeling is not there. More like a fog induced walk.

I wish I new the answers!

I think I have shut my brain down but lo and behold it is busy making mischief by itself all night long.

goldie said...

Good morning lynn, mek and tink and congrats Miss Scrawny Legs on 1st!

Ambien and I are life partners. I don't sleep good even with taking it. I usually can get about 5 or 6 hours of straight sleep if a night when I take it. Sometimes not that much. I have never been a good sleeper- a fact my kids hated because when they were teenagers there was NO getting around the curfew rule!
I don't do caffiene after 12 noon and I don't take naps. I try to go to bed and sleep but it takes me usually a good hour to fall asleep. My mom has the same problem. Outside my normal environment-forget it, just going to doze and not sleep.

Holy Crap it was rainy and windy and it really was an "Auntie Em" moment here last night Jodi!

MEK in AZ said...

Good Morning, Tinka!!

wow - cpgem, great blog...

I woke up tired this am. - so it's perfect!!

I go to sleep with the tv on a timer, and with my K.C. purring in my ear.. sounds funny, but if she isn't wrapped on my neck and shoulder, takes me longer to go to sleep..

I took my own pillow to TX this time and slept alot better!! But it's hard to do that if you are flying....

SO - in my exhaustion this a.m., I'm rambling on and on..

long, short - I don't sleep well if I'm not at home!!

i have never tried any sleep aids.

I hope everyone has an excellent day!! :-)

MEK in AZ said...

Good Morning, Goldie!!

OH - do I LOVE an afternoon nap!!

Dogs started barking WAY too early this am., so I have been up way too long already!!!

:-)

goldie said...

I love naps too- but I am screwed if I take one. I will be up all night then! And I am one of those people who need at least an hour for a nap- can't do a 15 minute 'catnap'. I wake up feeling worse and cranky.

Tinkatia said...

I remember when I could just lay down my head and sleep came so quickly. Suddenly it wasn't so easy. I have tried melatonin because I was told as you get older your body makes less melatonin and it is needed for sleep. The trouble with that, it gives one vivid nightmares so that isn't so good. If I am really upset I have been prescribed ativan but that it addictive. I read that setting up a routine helps. So I do the same thing every night. I get into bed at 10:00 and put on one of my favourite movies that we all talked about yesterday. It must be an old favourite, one that I have almost memorized. By the time the movie has been playing for anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour I am asleep. It acts the same way as having someone read to me at bedtime. I set the T.V. and the DVD to go off in 2 hours. If I make the mistake of putting in a new movie or one I haven't seen for a long time I get interested in it and watch it until it's over. Then I can't get to sleep and usually end up taking an ativan. It's a silly routine but it works for me.

iteach said...

It take me less then three minutes every night to fall asleep.

My husband times me every night.

I drink a lot of caffeine.

I take afternoon naps when I'm not working. I absolutley love them!

I am blessed with sleep.

However, poor hubby is cursed when it comes to sleep. He sounds just like Goldie!

goldie said...

lovey is back! I just caught up on yesterdays blog. Super big hugs to you girlfriend!! A BIG batch of brownies being baked in your honor.

I hated that Michael Johns went home on Idol. But it didn't hurt Daughtery any to go early, so we will see.

Lynn D said...

goldie: I find that I cannot take a nap in my bed at all!! If I decide to take a nap it has to be on the couch with the TV on some inane program and then I can sometimes drift off.

Usually I wake up feeling cranky and bitchy and out of sorts. I know you are supposed to feel rested but it just never seems to work for me.

Tinkatia said...

Good Morning Goldie. I have read all the previous comments and I remembered a couple of things. One, I never drink coffee. It just has too much caffeine in it for me. Secondly, I stop all caffeine drinks (tea, cola, coca) by 2 p.m. I had a coke one evening and my eyes wouldn't stay closed. They repeatedly popped open just like you see in cartoons. Lastly, I must have an afternoon nap. That is different from most people I think. If I do not have a nap I am very tired by about 9:00. I fall asleep for a couple of hours and then I am awake for the rest of the night.

This is a great blog Carol. I am hoping to get more tips for a healthy night's sleep. Research is now saying that 7 or 8 hours of sleep each night will prolong your life. I wonder if that's true.

Lynn D said...

Tinka: I have used melatonin when I have had bouts of insomnia and it works for awhile and then it stops.

I don't want to try a prescription sleep aid. I worry about becoming addicted! Scares me!

Tinkatia said...

Goldie - I hated to see Michael go home too. He looked so surprised because he had never been in the bottom three. My guess was right the last two weeks but last night I thought it would be Carly.

Tinkatia said...

Lynn - I forgot to say "Congrats on first". I was thinking it but I didn't write it down. Mek you were so close too.

iteach said...

I always sleep to the sound of a fan.

Our electricity was out for a lot of the night.

I almost cried when I went to bed because I thought wouldn't be able to sleep without my beloved fan.

However, my husband counted to see how many seconds it would take for me to fall asleep and he said I was snoring by 59 seconds.

goldie said...

I think I hate you iteach...JUST KIDDING- I envy you! I would give anything to be able to fall asleep like that.
My youngest son also sleeps with a fan. Always-even in the dead of winter he has a little fan blowing on him. When he started traveling for his job he had to learn how to sleep at all hours and not to have his beloved fan in his hotel room. That was an adjustment!

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Hi everyone!

Congrats Lynn D on 1st.

Great blog Carol.

About four and a half years ago I went to my doctor completely frustrated. I had been sleeping in a chair for eighteen months and only sleeping 3-5 hours a night. I was tired and cranky (more so than normal) and at the end of my rope. He set up an appointment with a sleeplab, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and the rest is history.

Two and a half years ago I purchased a CPAP mashine and face mask and I now sleep 7-9 hours a night. I wake up once to switch sides and rearange my pillows and go right back to sleep. I go to bed between 12 and 2 and get up around 9. It uaually takes me about ten minutes to fall asleep...although there are night I have trouble and my mind just doesn't want to shut down. I do not take naps, unless a neighbour has kept me awake with their party until 4:30 in the morning.

I look forward to my sleep now. Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning Owls!

Cpgem: Hope you got a good night's sleep, and thanks for writing today's blog!

I read an interesting article the other day about how computer use before bed can affect sleep. I can't remember all the details, but the article recommended turning off the computer at least 30 minutes before bedtime. I have a habit of doing the exact opposite. :)

From yesterday's blog...

Just Lin: You and your kitty are in my thoughts today.

Bebbi: Welcome to the nest!

BonO: Is Vanished the name of the movie you were trying to remember?

Joey: I hope you knew I was only teasing you about not going to bed. I do the same thing. No matter how determined I am to go to bed early, I always seem to get sidetracked. :)

Waving Hi to everyone!

Happy Friday!

Tinkatia said...

Iteach - I so envy you. I always feel if you have had a good night's sleep you can accomplish anything the next day. I read that lack of sleep is the cause of most accidents.

Shirley - How smart of you to go to a sleep lab and get diagnosed. I think a lot of people have sleep apnea and don't know it.

Bon'O said...

Good morning, Owls! I can't believe I was up in time to post to 'Area 51'. That hasn't happened in a while, but it's just too gorgeous a day to waste a single minute.

Much like iTeach, I have lttle trouble falling asleep. In my own bed, it's usually 7 hours of pure bliss. Never mastered hotel sleep, no matter how comfortable the bed. I blame it on the added excitement of being 'there', wherever there may be. Hotel stays usually involve too much fun just before bedtime or anticipation of what the day ahead has in store.

I wish I could 'power nap', but anything under 2-hours leaves me foggy and feeling exhausted.

Off to experience the day, after wishing you all a Fantastic Friday!!

Tinkatia said...

Amicus - Good Morning. I read that too about computer use. I do find being on the blog after nine interferes with my sleep, so does talking on the phone. I thought maybe it was the stimulation that caused the problem.

Bebbie - My myspace friend. I didn't see your post but welcome anyhow. I loved that last picture comment you sent to me. It was so cheerful.

Tinkatia said...

Bon Oregon - Another lucky sleeper. You must still have a lot of melatonin in your body. I think most people sleep best in their own little beds. I have to take my own pillow whenever I travel. There is no way I would get to sleep with a strange pillow.

whabbear said...

Hi, Tink, Lynn D, iteach, Goldie, MEK, Shirley, Amicus, and Carol!

My question: Why haven't we heard from.... drumroll...

Want_to_Sleep?

LOL!

Bon'O said...

p.s. for Amicus~~Just saw your post above. Nope, it wasn't Vanished. I almost lost some SLEEP :o) trying to remember this movie last night. I can't even remember who was in it! Just remember seeing it twice and being captivated by every second. Husband searches everywhere, no-one believes him, trucker involved, ends up with a scene involving blowing open a trunk in the loft of a barn(?) somewhere and escaping. DANG! Why can I not remember this (maybe it was TOO scary?), but I can name that awful song from the 60's in 3 notes? Things that make you say "Hmmmmmmm".

whabbear said...

Good Morning, Bon'O!

By the way, Carol, if the title of today's blog WAS referring directly to Kathy... well... I'd have to say... thanks for the information!

Bon'O said...

Hi Bear! :o) Surely YOU can solve my movie mystery?? If it were not for my vow to get OFF the computer, I'd be here all day until I find it.

Bon'O said...

FOUND IT!!! The movie was BREAKDOWN, starring Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan. Here's the plot-line.....and if you haven't seen it, you just might LOVE it.

Jeff and Amy Taylor are moving to California and must drive across the country. When they find themselves stranded in the middle of a desert with hardly anyone or anything around, their trip comes to a sudden halt. Amy had taken a ride with a friendly trucker to a small diner to call for help, but after a long time, Jeff becomes worried. He finds that no one in the diner has seen or heard from his wife. When he finds the trucker who gave Amy the ride, the trucker swears he has never seen her. Now Jeff must attempt to find his wife, who has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. But who can he trust?

NOW, I can get on with the day!

whabbear said...

Bon'O: Nope, I would not have been able to solve that!

kahonugrl said...

Aloha Kakahiaka Hooters!

Bear....lol

Sleep is on and off for me. Never needed anything to help me sleep, but I do tend to push myself and stay up, for usually nothing 8}.

Naps......never understood them in my youth, but can easily do a 2-3 hour nap now (Can it still be called a nap?) and don't know how some peeps can do that 15-20 minute "power nap" thing, just don't understand that.

ok day is starting off badly, got some work fires to put out.

TGIF!!!! Only 9 more hours to go to the weekend. Waves hello to those who are here, and those yet to come.

Barbara_in_COviaWA said...

Congrats on 1st lynn d!

Sleeeeep.....ahhhhhhhhh......

I love to curl up in bed on my first day off and "try" to watch a movie. I always fall asleep. But my philosophy is "If I didn't need to sleep, I would not fall asleep so quicky!" Therefore...I needed a nap! Just like a little kid. I go weeks without a nap, and then I just seem to crash. Last time I crashed was in Vegas. Ooopsie. We spent all that money going down there and I end up taking a nap every day. I was just so exhausted. My mom always told us we had sleep reserves, and when our reserves are low, we take a good long nap and fill it back up. When the kids were younger, I never slept until morning. I just constantly woke up. Now that they are gone, I put in earplugs and put on the eyemask and I'm out for the night. Usually. I do still have fitful nights where I just can't sleep, but it's no where like it used to be.

Off to get ready to pick up mom for lunch and a movie!

Have a great day Owls!

CAROL - Great blog!!

LYNN D - Congrats on first!!

WOOO HOOO......LOVEY is back in the nest!!! So glad to see you posting in Area 51!! Welcome back......you've been missed!!

As you all know....I'm an EARLY riser. I get up at 2am and clock in at 4am most days. I'm one of the lucky ones that can get by with a 20-30 minute power nap. If I sleep any longer than that....I'm cranky....and really cranky the next day because I won't be able to get to sleep when I need to.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Barbara_in_COviaWA said...

All this talk about sleep and no sleep. I am so dang tired today and don't know why.

Bono: We have beautiful sunshine today. I was thinking I need to get out and enjoy! Maybe I will go buy a new folding lawn chaise and nap in the sun!

Well if I can work up the energy!

BonO I was going to tell you "Breakdown" also, but I was still reading and way too slow. LOL

LynnD Love seeing those scrawny legs at #1 today!

cpgem8 Great topic today.

I'm one of those lucky ones who goes to sleep within a few moments of laying down. I like to take my pillow with me when I travel. It makes a big difference as it is a down/feather pillow and I really dislike foam ones. Once the air gets smashed out of it, it really isn't difficult to get it smashed into a suitcase.

Glynis said...

Good "almost afternoon" Owls!

I love sleep, but I always seem to fight going to bed. I have so many things that I like to do at night, so I start a project at 9 or 10PM...or chat with blog buddies... or watch a show... and then I go to bed after midnight exhausted and when I hit those sheets I always wonder why I didn't put myself there sooner.

Lately I haven't been able to stay asleep. I sleep fine for the first few hours and then around 4AM it seems like my mind will think of something that makes me sit up and check the clock. Most often I can get back to sleep, but there have been nights that after laying there for 2 hours thinking I just decide I should go downstairs and do something.

There are 2 things that ALWAYS help me to sleep. Having the TV on seems to help me... and taking a hot bath. I am infamous for sleeping...a hard, sound sleep... while in the bathtub. Berry always feels like he needs to check and make sure I haven't drowned, but for me it is pure comfort. Maybe I was a fish in a past life?

Thank you (((friends))))for the welcome back :o)
I have missed those wonderful brownies Goldie hehe.Ty.

Jodi sorry I wasn't fast enough this a.m to catch u before work.

Oh sleep, well I have needed sleep aids for years.
My brain is on "perma overdrive" and it doesn't stop without help.
When I do take the helpers I can sleep for about 4-6 hours.
Sometimes, depending on what my body says, I can sleep on and off for days.A few hours at a time.

Bon, that movie "Breakdown" was a great movie too.
I was in a panic state through the whole movie.I got so wrapped up in the emotions.
Jodi and Goldie, we had the same weather last night.I thought our house was going to be flying off to Oz.

I just made myself some coffee because I'm tired but it's too late for a nap. Usually, naps don't work that well for me, anyway. I don't know if it's because I sleep too deep or what, but I usually feel drugged after waking up from a nap.

Bon'O said...

Dinnertime. YAY for barbecue season!!

Amicus: Here's something that makes me say "Hmmmmm"....
Question: Why did I always think you were the sweetest of owls?? Then you have to go and LAUGH OUT LOUD at your Auntie Owl.
Answer: Because that was freakin' funny!!!!! LOL!

See, it's all very logical. The part I had wrong, that kept me from getting the title, was I FORGOT that they had a 'BREAKDOWN' and never made it to the service station.......For your punishment for being so 'mean' I hope you watch it and have nightmares or can't sleep :D~ Thanks to those kinder, gentler Owl cousins who knew the title and were willing to help. Where were you while I was losing sleep trying to remember it? LOL indeed!!

See, now we're back on TOTD......

Bon'O said...

MEK~~Thought of you while watching Tiger....

JODI~~Thought of you when seeing a Wisconsin dairy farm/cheese factory on the news.....

TINA~~Thought of you with Delta possible merger news....

K'GIRL~~Thought of you when the temp hit 69 today ;D~

Tinkatia said...

Amicus - I am interested. What was the connection between the stimulation and the melatonin level?

MEK in AZ said...

Dianne in Denver - OH these d'back announcers are making me SICK - they aren't talking about OUR Rockies very nicely!!!

Bono - getting back on Topic - and yesterday's blog also - another favorite movie of mine that I can watch OVER and OVER again is:

While you were Sleeping!!! I just LOVE that movie!!

MEK in AZ said...

Bono - Tiger finished awhile back - :-)

MEK in AZ said...

Thank You, my baked potato was delish, and cooked just right...
Sorry I got confused, did not realize you were making soup. I prefer the baked potato tho...

barbwa

night.owls.sb said...

I just got done watching "The Break Up" I really like that movie. And the ending kinda breaks you up...

Bon'O said...

MEK~~Good one...a TOTD two-fer!
(and I think the cow-poop energy to run the business AND provide electricity for neighbors is fantastic!!)

TINKA~~Are you positive you want Amicus to tell you about stimulation?? She's kinda frisky today!

CAROL~~ Your great TOTD made me think of a possible related topic for another day-----Recurring Dreams. I bet we all have them. It'd be fun to hear about them, and share dream analysis.

VIG~~I finally finished it!!!

night.owls.sb said...

bon
Great idea for a daily blog, I actually thought about that, however I could not write it when I tried.

Any takers?

kahonugrl said...

k peeps help me make up my mind. I made putenesca last night for dinner but had it for lunch today so I don't want any more of that!

Which would you prefer?

Chicken salad with fresh dill, cukes, onion and grapes on french bread OR grilled sourdough sandwiches with black forest ham and provolone?

Or I could always have a bowl of suger pops.....lmao

Bon'O said...

MEK~~If you didn't like cow-poop energy, you probably don't want to know about the $30 a cup cat-poop coffee that was just on our local news. If I were Joey, I'd rename this but....

www.lifeaftercoffee.com/2005/09/16/the-straight-poop-on-kopi-luwak-coffee/

All I can say is "W*T*C ?"

MEK in AZ said...

Bono - I didn't, not like, the cow poop - I just found it extremely interesting.. AND, it a good thing that I DON'T drink coffee!! LOL

Ghost Whisper is on - we will be switching between baseball and it!

Just_Lin said...

Turtle Did your dish have anchovies? If so, I would stay away from salty tonight and go with the chicken salad. :)

kahonugrl said...

nope no more lil fishies. Turtle is allergic to fish and shellfish....

I think I am leaning towards the chicken salad, but ill have to stop at the store for some grapes...

Off to the store and home. Log back on in a bit.
