Ah the sights and sounds spring!

Shirley

There's nothing quite like it when you finally open your windows from the long cold winter months and let the warm breeze of spring blow through. The dust that has settled for months in unseen places comes alive in a cloud that swirls around and covers everything you have just dusted. *sigh* Ah the sights of Spring!

Now that your windows are open you begin to get use to the new sounds you hear. All the birds seem to get up at about the same time...5 am. How delightful to hear them squawking back and forth at that ungodly hour. Oh and lets not forget the lovely woodpecker pecking out a home for his wonderful family...in the tree across the street. Ah the sounds of Spring!

Looking out the window you can see all the beautiful flowers growing. The leaves are once again covering the trees. The grass is being trimmed. Wonderful fragrances fill the air (cough, sneeze and wipe eyes). All of this brings on yet another joyous spring pleasure...bugs. Spiders, black flies, mosquitoes, ants and a whole host of others too numerous to mention. When you aren't redusting your furniture you're swatting those lovely creatures till there's nothing left but a memory. Oh, and isn't it fun when you go outside and are immediately swarmed by several dozen families of black flies or mosquitoes or if you're really lucky both. Nothing better than swelling up and scratching from various bug bites. Ain't nature grand? Ah the sights of Spring!

Lying in bed listening to the sounds of a spring night. The chirping of yet more bugs. The squealing of tires. The revving of newly modified engines. Oh, and we can't forget the lovely boom boom booming of music (music??) as the local young people finally come out of their winter cocoons and share with everyone within a six block radius. Ah the sounds of Spring! And Summer is just a few days away...can't wait!

Shirley - I just wrote you and my comment disappeared. I will see if this goes through.

Tinkatia said...

OKAY I will try again.

Shirley - Thanks for your offer of black flies but if we leave the island and drive a couple of hours we have plenty of them. The black flies in Northern B.C. are so big they bite huge chunks out of your face and neck. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't experienced little children with blood running down their faces. No, I think I will refuse your kind offer.

Good Morning Hooters!

congrats on 1st Scrishy..

Great blog Shirley! Love your humor. Sniff, sneeze and achoo...

I survived my Dr. Appointments yesterday. I had the sadistic Russian woman do my Mammo- since when does your clavical have to be in the machine too? I swear she could have squeezed milk out of me from my last pregnancy 25 years ago!

Then my dr. looked in my very sore throat and said "that looks nasty" and proclaimed it was a virus and no antibiotics. "Not the swine flu, but you never know, you should be fine in 7 to 10 days". Great. In the meantime I get stares from people who want me to die on the spot for coughing in their airspace.

Ok, then onto the salad spoons up my you know what. Trying not to cough up a lung with that going on was comical. Everything seemed to be normal for a peri-menapausal women. Thanks doc.

Ok, off to the shower so I can go hack up a lung at the farmers market. :)

Shirley keep the black flies to yourself!

Ok gang I can't contain myself any longer! I was going to wait until later in the day but I just can't! LOL

I am meeting Sacbarb in Seattle for lunch! Hehehe How fun is that? My first Owl meeting!

Ok have to go make sure my feet are clean and don't smell and the teeth are flossed and my ears are cleaned out! Don't want to make a bad impression.

Getting caught up on the last few days of blogs...

From A50, 'weenie's blog:

Mo: I have equal parts of the reaction of Tink, Zona, and Scrishy. Seriously.... equal parts of each of them.

How can people treat their elderly parents with anything but respect and love and support? How can nuclear family members not do that?

I don't get it. Any time it happens.

Scrishy: You bitch! HOW MUCH WAS THAT ARM??????

tee hee...

Shirley: ROFLMAO!

Pencil that in Shirley!

Tink- you are nicer then me. I needed that......

My favorite thing yesterday was when I asked the Dr. if it was ok if I was sucking on cough drops 24/7 and he replied " yes, sucking is good". I damn near choked on my cough drop and said 'spoken like a true man'. He BLUSHED but we both laughed like fools!

DeeDee said...

OMG I have got something to say about Spring hitting Shirley! It brought an unexpected guest this year......

A TARANTULA!!

I had never seen one...other than on TV or in a pet store. Well I have now! My little dog and I were sitting outside the other night and she was barking at something by a wall about 20 feet away....I could see something black.....I thought it was another snake...(yes another snake...I'll get to that) so I got up and went over to investigate and the hairy beast leaped at me! It was a tarantula!
I didn't have my Smith & Wesson on me so I grabbed the dog and my diet coke and hot footed it to the garage to find a weapon....only to find the door locked....now between holding the dog and my diet coke getting that door unlocked was no easy task but we gained entry where I located a spikey thing with a long wooden handle. We hurried back to the spider and there it was...lifting its woolly old legs at me as to say "I'll get you old woman...and your little dog too!".....Not tonight hairy....and he gasped as he heard the garden utensil swoosh thru the air and screamed as it embedded a spike in his fat butt. A fatal blow.....

all was peaceful in the hood...once again.....

Just_Lin said...

scirish Congrats on first! I hope you and your mom have an excellent day.

Tinka Good job at getting 25 and 50 today. You are in excellent marching form.

Golide Congrats on 69! If I would have been here a few minutes earlier, I would have raced you for it! Hey, that would be some pretty sour milk at this point......ijs. LOL

Shirley Excellent blog today! Thanks for the morning laugh! You are so right, there are a lot of annoying things about spring. I enjoy the birds but they don't wake me up. I saw a Downy Wooodpecker in my redwood tree the other day feeding its youngster. Too cute!

DeeDee OMG! I thought it was when I woke up this morning, walked into the bathroom and faced a huge spider sitting in my sink! He was big but he sure wasn't any tarantula. I don't know how you could have spiked it! So messy! We once had an extra large pumpkin spider here that we felt was too big to kill, although my husband did consider shooting it. We ended up trapped it and driving it a quarter mile away and releasing it on a ranch.

whabbear said...

Delores: There's a much simpler way to deal with these creatures. Just wave your magic Wanda!

whabbear said...

Good morning, Tinkatia! Speaking of catching up, I was very sorry to hear about your arthritis.

Increased funding for research into autoimmune disorders, anyone?

MEK in AZ said...

Lynn - OMG - you are going to LOVE SacBarb... that little devil didn't say a word to me!! LOL..

DeeDee - I sure hope peta doesn't get wind of you killing an innocent little spider!!! LMAO..

Goldie - Oh my - "sucking is good" - glad everything went well yesterday and congrats on 69!!

Whabby - what are we going to do with you??!!

Just Lin - what a way to start the day.. NOT..

DeeDee said...

J/L....

well now I feel terrible about killing the thing.....but see....late at night my meds are wearing off and I react differently. Especially the medicine that makes the voices stop......damned voices! If I just hadn't listened that thing would be living on a ranch today.....I hate when that happens!

Well I guess I will pass on telling you all what I did to the snake...except to say I bought the snake skin belt I am wearing!

MEK in AZ said...

I remember when we first moved down here - we were walking the dogs after a nice little rain.. and there were about 9 little black spots just moving around on the sidewalk...

well, I do NOT like anything crawly!!!! (but have had to adapt living in the desert)..

after a closer look - it was a little family of baby turanjula's. They creeped me out, but I just couldn't take my eyes off the little things..... I was glad they were no where near my house, mind you!!!

Tinkatia said...

Dee Dee - Loved your story. Now I am going to tell you one that I have never told a soul. Years ago my husband brought home a pet tarantula for my son. He was thrilled I was not. It was kept in a box. One day I was curious and I just lifted the side of the box and this huge hairy leg quickly slithered out. I shut the box, heard a huge crack and ran. I have never admitted having done that so please don't tell my family. They never did figure out how Kevin ended up with a deformed tarantula.

Tinkatia said...

Just-Lin - Yes I am good at marching on the computer. I hope I can get back to marching around the block, or at least walking around the block.

Tinkatia said...

Whabbear - Thanks for your concern. My arthritis started in my hands and back. Now it's in my hips and knees. On the cruise we had to do a fire drill which meant walking down 8 flights of stairs and then standing for a half hour of instructions and lastly walking back the 8 flights of stairs. My knees have not recovered yet. I am hoping they will. Yes, we need more research. The doctors say there is nothing one can do but take pain pills and apply ice. As the baby boomers age perhaps there will be more emphasis put on research. We can only hope.

Tinka LOL @ the deformed tarantula. My son had one, too. All his legs were fine. What I didn't like was all the crickets that were spider food as some would always get away and be jumping around the house.

DeeDee What kind of snake? Rattler?

Mary/MI said...

Thanks for the laughs this morning, I needed them! I am thoroughly exhausted from last night's torrential rains.
I am doing this Estelle Getty style (Golden girls)

Picture this..pouring rain, lightening, basement garage flooded with 6" of water slowly creeping onto the family room. Mr Mary and I pushing water into trenches heading down toward our rising creek! The lightening and cracking thunder was totally freaking me out as I was digging under many trees! I had on my rubbers (don't go there Whabby) and praying I wouldn't die out there, not from lightening, but from heart attack! I am way too old to be doing this!
The frustrating part of this is that it has happens way too many times! Mr Mary keeps promising me he will have it taken care of, then the weather turns nice and he thinks that the freakish rain can't possibly happen again, so he does nothing! I swear I am going to call an excavator, hire him and give Mr Mary the bill! I am giving him the silent treatment today he hates when I do that lol!
I was supposed to make strawberry jam last night, but got sidetracked.
So I will be signing off to get-r-done, then taking my procrastinating-lump-in-the-chair-snoring-farting-lovable husband to to a fricking Father's day supper!

DeeDee said...

J/L....I think it was an Eastern Hognose snake. They are harmless but they kind of resemble a cobra when they spread their hood....lol
They put on quite a show....huffing and puffing...a little foaming at the mouth...then they usually flip belly up ...let their tongues hang out and play dead....they can be quite large so people freak out over them....I love them because of their Oscar worthy death scenes....lol

If you have never seen one there is a great picture at this link.....

http://www.pbase.com/rcm1840/image/16370538

Just_Lin said...

Mary OMG! What a horrible night you had! You are right. It is not good for either of you to have to be out in that weather doing something that could be prevented. You need to sit Mr. Mary down at the table and get a commitment and timeline for when the project is to be started and finished. And be realistic. Is he really going to be able to do it or should you just stop messing around and hire someone? Get him to commit to it, one way or the other, in writing!

bonachichi said...

Hello Hooters! Boy, I missed some excitement this morning...

Shirley, I never thought of Spring the way you describe it. I always thought of Spring as the teaser for Summer. Like appetizers.

bonachichi said...

Mary/MI; Maybe if you let Mr. Mary know that he will be the designated cleaner-upper for future storms, you'll see some action.

Just_Lin said...

DeeDee Thanks for the link. That snake is pretty darn impressive. I would not like to come across that in my yard. I'm not afraid of snakes but they aren't my favorite thing, either. My first husband had a couple of pythons. I don't like that they required live food, plus they have no personality.

whabbear said...

LOL@poor Mary! The silent treatment, eh? Effective!

MEK: I know what you can do with me... you can watch the Open with me! We have to head out to a friends' 50 birthday party later on this afternoon, but I'm glued to the TV until then!

Thanks for the fun blog SHIRLEY!

TINA: I'm sorry I missed commenting on your blog yesterday. Mr. Z thought going out to dinner would help a headache I was battling most of the day. He also thought that if I had a couple Strawberry daiquiris I'd feel even better. He was right! We got home late..and I went right to bed. Yes..I know..cheap date. ;)

I watched the clip of the NJ Housewives...I HAVE to watch this show! I've watched the video 3 times and I'm still not sure what is being said..but I know that I want to see what led up to this fight! I can't wait til they run a marathon. In fact, we get Bravo On Demand..I'll have to see if they have back episodes. Great blog TINA..I'm hooked! :D

DEE DEE...OMG, if I saw a tarantula I would just move...and a snake...I'd move farther away!!

TINKA...too funny! Was it cathartic finally telling that story?! I am sorry you have such pain from your arthritis. Feel better.

TINA...yep, I'm now getting ready to forage for dinner!

LYNN...I can't wait to hear about your meeting with SACBARB. You are so lucky to get to meet her...and she you.

I went to the library this afternoon. Decided what better place to hang out in air conditioning! I picked out a couple of DVD's and the book The Necklace. I read about 1/2 of it there. I am enjoying it immensely. Im glad SANDIE (btw...where are u?) let us in on it.

And, I finally broke down and put on the air a bit. It was 81 downstairs and about 10 degrees higher upstairs. I will let it cool down, then hopefully the night will be cool and the open windows will do the trick.

Maureen said...

Ohhh, and last night the question was asked of me...will I water the plants and the lawn when I feed the cats! I knew it was coming. I firmly said I would water the plants in the front as they have a watering system. But I refused to do the back. Before I left, he asked me if I couldnt be convinced to water the back, too. I stood my ground and said NO and it was hard enough having to go there everyday as it was, so I wasn't gonna do it!! YAY for me!

Tinkatia said...

Maureen - Yes it was cathartic telling that story. Now I will wait and see how long it takes before the story gets back to the family. As they say, there are no secrets on the Internet.

Zona - Nice to see you on the blog. I was wondering where you were yesterday. I do have trouble keeping track of my daughter.

I just found out the nurses in my family have rearranged their schedules so they can come to a Father's Day barbecue here tomorrow. I had better get busy. See you all in the morning. Be good tonight.

Maureen said...

I was just informed that I made a HUGE faux pas...TINA wrote The Necklace blog.

TINA...I am so sorry. I hope you can find it in your big heart and warped mind to forgive me. Remember, I am old and forgetful...oneday you will be old, too.

I am sorry, sorry, sorry.

I hope ya still love me!!!

LYNND: Lucky you! Lucky SACBARB! i bet you laughed and laughed...

ITEACH: Did you get the kids settled down?

MO: I foraged something for you!! :D

TINK: You did some great marching today! Congrats on 25, 50 and 100! I didn't even know your secret! ;)

GOLDIE: Just one of those appts. makes me want to hide under the bed..let alone all three..yikes!
Glad you got 69..you deserved it!!! :D

DEEDEE: "I don't like spiders and snakes.." ewwwww..!! Mr Z's mom put a big rock on a tarantula so that it wouldn't move until Mr Z's dad got home and could get rid of it. By the time he got there..it was a tarantula pancake. He had to use a flat shovel to get it off the driveway!

MARY: Mr Z never wants to fix anything until it's a crisis either. If I try..I get lectured..so I don't even go there. I'm sorry you had such a mess..

DEEDEE2: Ewwwww...more slithering critters...

J/LIN: Pythons..I bet I dream of snakes tonight..ick..

TINA: Send that storm this way! Make some popcorn..pretend to watch the movies..and daydream of being somewhere else. Works for me. ;)

Shirley, love your blog! Our spring mornings lately have started with the lovely sound of heavy equipment.

The house kind of behind and to the side of us (the neighbors mysteriously moved out rather suddenly not too long ago) is undergoing some kind of renovation.

The workers are very loud!

I am so happy to hear that Lynn D and SacBarb are meeting today! I hope it's successful!! lol (he he Tina!)

It is hot today, but very windy, but it didn't stop us from getting in the pool for a while.

Yikes that snake pic is scary. I am not a fan of the creatures, although I find them fascinating and like to watch nature shows about them.

Tinka your tarantila story was funny... I think your secret is safe with us!

Forgot to congrat Scrishy on 1st again!

Mo,I need to forage here for dinner, I think it is gonna be leftovers. Plus some corn on the cob!

We have leftover stuffed shells, enchiladas, Spanish rice, salad, and tuna casserole, so the MR. has quite a choice tonight!

Just_Lin said...

EBJ All you leftovers sound delicious! I'm manking tuna casserole tonight. Yummy!

Maureen said...

Well heck, I'll have a scoop of Just Lin's tuna casserole and a scoop of EBJ's...and let you know who wins!!

Why does that casserole make me think of TUNA in UT? LOL!!!

Tina~in_ut said...

Shut up MO!!!~ :)~

J/L~ isn't Manking illegal in CA?

Maureen said...

SCIRISH...did your weather report include the torrential downpour you caused in your mom's bathroom?? LOL!!!!

Maureen said...

TINA...I "thing" you are right!! ijs!!

Tina~in_ut said...

Mo? Do Jewish whores make more than Mexican whores? ija~

Maureen said...

TINA...no. Well maybe since the Peso is not worth as much as the dollar!! Or is it worth more? I need to google that!! You may make more.
But I throw in free guilt trips with my services...

Tina~in_ut said...

I probably make more....ur right~ Peso or not...I throw in free Tamales~

Just_Lin said...

I am home. Can I just say I love Sacbarb!!! She is so sweet and cute. She also makes me feel very tall when I am with her and I am only 5ft 4 inches! LOL

We had a great lunch, her first time trying Thai food. We both had our first Thai iced tea. We talked like we were old friends. It was great all the way around!

Tinka my daughter and I did do some sight seeing. Well if you count getting lost on the way to the restaurant and then getting even more lost after we took Sacbarb back to her sons. I have seen parts of Seattle I did not even know existed! LOL My daughter thought it was all a great adventure!

Over all it was a memory making day! I did take pictures and will post them sometime tomorrow.

Goldie and Jodi we thought about doing boob shots at the table but gave up after I realized there was no way I could compete!

Lynn D said...

Oh, I do have to say I win hands down on double chin shots!

goldie said...

Lynn- so happy you and Sacbarb had a good time!Isn't being with another Owl the best thing?
I got very lucky to be close to Jodi. Having met kgirl I can only say I wish we DID live closer. there are just soooooooooo many more I want to meet in person too!!

Took my sorry ass shopping today and got some fantastic deals at Boston's and Macy's- so it made my sore throat and cough much better.:)

Scirish..glad you're enjoys you little spring showers.

Mek...glad I could make you laugh. With all the lessons that Tug has had I assume you have the most well behaved dog on the planet...right?

Lynn D...I think they should invent a little robot thing that cuts your grass for you. Something like the one that cleans your floors. I'm glad you and SacBarb had a good time.

Iteach...what did you and you restless kids do today?

Mo...I hope you were able to get breakfast. These friends of yours, don't they have a neighbor that could do all this for them?

Tinka...congrats on all your marching! Have a great BBQ tomorrow!

Goldie...how many people did you infect at the Farmer's Market, and have you brought that lung up yet? Your 69 has been noted. Glad the shopping helped.

Whabbear...increased funding for all medical reseach is a great idea but not going to happen. Too many wars to fight.

DeeDee...did you stuff the tarantula and hang it in your game room? LOL!

JustLin...I would not have had snakes or spiders living in my house. Ewwwwwwwwww!

Mary...sorry to hear about your flooded basement. I would tell Mr. Mary you are making a call to get the work done and that is that. Period. No discussion.

Bonacci...don't worry, people rarely think like I do. That's a good thing.

Tina...at least the kids paid for the present. I hope you find at least one movie you like.

Zona...it looks like Mr. Z knows how to take care of you.

EBJ...yes I forgot that Spring also brings out all the handymen in the neighborhood that like to start their construction project before dawn. There's nothing like waking up to the sound of hammering and sawing.

Thank you all for thecomments on my blog. Stay tune for the next part in the days to come. Good night! Thanks for posting my blog Carol.

I just saw that the Moody Blues are going to be playing at a theater about 90 miles from here next month.

I thought it would be a nice way to spend a Friday evening, spend the night and drive home Saturday.

Then I saw the ticket prices! EEEEKS!!!

For a band from the 70s at a venue out in the boonies in the gold country, it is unbelievable!

It is $45-90 just to sit on the lawn.

Maybe it's because I haven't been to a concert in a while, but that seems high to sit on the lawn.

If you want to get a really good seat it's $225+, I saw some listed for 400+. Even the sections further back are high.

Sorry for the bitch, but I am just shocked!

East Bay J said...

Lynn so glad you and Sac Barb had a nice time today!

She is a sweetie!

Shirley, I'm looking forward to your next blog!

JL how was your tuna casserold?

Goldie glad your throat is better, shopping is good for your health!

Mo, glad you stood your ground!!

Isn't The Necklace good? I am glad you're reading it.

Nancy the kitty has decided to use her claws to climb up to us, so MR. EBJ and I have scratched, raw legs from her.

Today she planted some of her claws on the left side of my face, I was laying down on the couch playing with her. She got startled by something and jumped on my face, leaving me with several punctures. owieee!

LynnD How fun that you got to meet with SacBarb. I look forward to seeing the pics.

Carol You're welcome! :)

Dianne How great that you got a sleep day! That sounds very appealing.

Dianne/Denver said...

LYNN: Sorry, I beat u on chins--I have five!. Glad u and SACBARB had a fun lunch
SHIRLEY: loved ur blog today. I also will add tornados to the spring mix. We seem to be getting them more and more.

MARY: What a mess. I think I would just get it done too. It is too dangerous for u to be doing all that and in the bad storm too. It's nice u r still took Mr Mary to dinner. When I give my husband the silent treatment he DOES like it!

Today has been a sleep day for me. Think I will go back to bed. Night all

Dianne/Denver said...

Sorry, I refreshed and my post showed up again anf there is no little trashcan to delete on the phone. Sooo, double sorry if it posts again. Night again

Dianne/Denver said...

Hmmm, everyone must be asleep or out having a Saturday night party. I am now on the computer and was able to delete my double post..

I got up to get something to drink as I am pretty awake laying in bed watching TV...I wonder why...other than sleeping for so many hours.

I am a true owl...I can stay awake all night and sleep the whole day. That would be great if I was the bird owl instead of a people owl...

See ya' tomorrow Can't wait to see the blog lunch pictures.
